We got one from Andrew who said, hey, Katie and the Casualties. I started listening to the podcast after Katie went on we're here to help. And you've quickly become one of my favorite podcasts. I grew up in a rural town in Michigan with a population of about 11,000 people and not one, not two, but six white high school rappers.

They amicably formed a rap group called Knuckle Deep.

I think I have the big joker when it comes to this category. Being that I graduated with the famous Trojan and Buzzball spokesman Lil Dicky. I wouldn't say I was friends with him.

And I remember when he started rapping way back in middle school, so it's crazy to me he still has songs with Snoop Dogg now. Fun fact. He was voted funniest male in our graduating class and also won multiple badminton tournaments that our school famously held every year. Anyway. Love you mean it.

So thanks for that. While I didn't have a white rapper at my high school of note, my wife did go to summer camp with David Bird, AKA Lil Dicky. Love you mean it. Oh, that's two people emailing in to say they have a connection to little Dicky.

So this is a whole thing. 18 year old Kai Trump made her official LPGA debut this weekend at the Annika Tournament in Pelican Golf Club in Bel Air, Florida. It's just such rich words. Despite ranking 461st in the American Junior Golf association rankings and 1081st in the Universal golf rankings junior girls rankings, I know you guys are checking these every week. I just want to recap for people who aren't, despite the fact that that's how she ranks. She played the event as a sponsors exemption, which according to the pelicans, Dan Doyle Jr. I don't know what he does for a job, but I assume he's like a spokesperson. He said the idea of the exemption, when you go into the history of exemptions, is to bring attention to the event. Yeah, I think. Oh, and then Annika Sorenstan followed up and said, yeah, I think any tournament wants buzz. So that's how they usually use these SP exemptions, is to create buzz. Well, buzz, buzz. She shot 83 on Thursday and 75 on Friday to finish 18 over. Or as Jeffrey Epstein calls it, Ew. I am so sorry. I haven't had something occur to me like that before live. She missed the cut just by. Just a little. She missed the cut by 17 strokes. She was right there. She almost had it. She was dead last in the field, six strokes behind the next best player. Tournament host Annika Sorenstam said, give this girl a chance. Right. No, I don't know. Wrong. It was clearly a preemptive attempt to deflect any negative attention headed Trump's way. Sorenstam accepted the Presidential Medal of Freedom from kai's grandfather on January 7, 2021. If it was done for publicity, the LPGA strategy was puzzling, to say the least on social media. The LPGA posted one clip on Twitter of her heading to the tee box before her Thursday round and then one montage after she finished her Friday round at 18 over.

People are being really mean to me about sucking ass in my first ever tournament that I shouldn't have been at anyway. Wow, people sure are being mean now. I will put a disclaimer on this, as with anything, but I'm seeing it a lot online lately, so I feel it's irresponsible to not say this will eventually just become sexist. And she let's like watching the way people talk about women online, it festers very quickly. It's a. I'm not saying every attack on every woman for anything they've ever done is because of sexism. I'm just saying it devolves into sexism at an alarming rate and then it grows because for some reason if you are being sex, it's like a swan. It like calls. It's like a siren song of sexism. And then all these sexist people go like, yes. And they come to the story and they just feast off of we're being mean to a lady. And it gets overridden very quickly. And so we won't dwell on this, but girl, you stink. Girl, you are not good. You are out here being very bad at golf and we can all see and so boo to you. You stink. And that's all I really wanted to say. Brady. I know. Did anything else you wanted to say about it?

It's like if you're doing it, then if you're doing it, it's going to be for publicity. Then make it about publicity. Bring all the eyes in, show all the clips on social, make it all about what happened. But then it was almost like they did it, but they really want to do it. They said halfway. They still tried to. Like all of the lpga, social was just about, you know, this golfer birdied, this golf golfer eagled and I don't know, pick a lane and go in it. If you want to really make it all about your sport, then don't invite a sponsors exemption to the thousandth best 17 year old or 18 year old in the country. If you want to really lean into the publicity. Lean into the publicity. Like Caitlin Clark was there playing the pro Am end of it and they did great with that. But then it seemed like they had this very off, awkward middle ground where they were afraid to like really publicize something. Really publicize people talking about the actual LPGA event of it sat in this middle ground. Didn't feel like anybody won this. It doesn't feel like the LPGA is moving forward at the same pace as every other women's league in terms of the way they present the sport. They don't really seem to have a clear direction with it. And I want better for it. Like, clearly there are women playing amazing golf. There's interest in golf. Like, why isn't disconnecting as well?

They're going to the final. Another epic finish. And by epic finish, I mean that I. I spent the majority of the game feeling like I was gonna vomit. And then right at the very end, they scored. And then also, not only at the very end did they score, but then there was like almost a chance where they got scored on at the very end and they had to make a crazy save. And I was like, why are they doing it like this? It's so mean the way they're doing it. I'm so happy that my friends are winning. I'm so happy that in the last season I get to root for this team because next season there's going to be a Boston team. And it would be a violation of everything I stand for and was born into to root for a New York team in a. That has a Boston team. So as of now, I've been okay rooting for a New York team. And it's actually been kind of nice because I live here. And so it's kind of nice I have to abandon them next year because Boston's getting a team and that's just how it goes. But I got three friends on this team and they're winning. They barely. They, like, were at the. They were the lowest seed in the playoffs. They. They won a game that nobody thought they were going to win. They've embraced this underdog mentality. They win again over the weekend in an annoying way that I didn't appreciate, but that was great. And it was. I thought, Midge touch that ball. I thought she got a touch on it and I was like, mid score that game. She didn't, but we still love her. It was Jaden Shaw who scored it, who I think actually has been involved in all of their postseason goals in one way or another. Jaden Shaw has. So they are through to the NWSL final. They won 1 nil over the Orlando Pride on Sunday. It was so funny. It was right after they said, you know, no NWSL postseason game, or maybe it was a semi final game, had ever been a nil nil tie. We'll see if it happened. And it did and it didn't. It was like they spoke it into existence.

They were into the 97th minute. Like they were in it. It was. It was in the very last minute of stoppage time. So Jaden scores and I text you. Everyone's like, holy, epic finish again. And then like, I put the phone down, I'm like, wait, they're still playing. They played like three more minutes.

It was funny. Cuz I went. I said like, I was like, wow, what a save. And then I'm like. In my head was like, Brady famously turned a game off and thought that what happened was the. I'm like, I bet once that goal got scored, he was like, game over. Back to football.

In my mind, I was like, that's gonna be it. But I did not change the channel. I did not change the channel.

But she looked into the camera and was like, can I say one more thing before I go? And then said this. Last week. Last week, ESPN top 10, you guys. Sports center top 10. You missed Katie Stangle. That goal was storybook. Storybook. You missed it. It wasn't. Why wasn't it on the Sports center top 10 next time. Love you. I loved that. That was sick. I texted her and I said, I literally can't with you. The Sports center call out is crazy. That's great. Perfect. She's amazing. So this is their. They're going to the finals. They're going to play the Washington Spirit. And do we have an update on Trinity Rodman? Do we know if she's gonna play? Is she gonna start?

I mean, we don't even know if she's gonna play in the United States next year. That's the big drama.

Okay, I know, and I'm not really ready to talk about that either. But it's also on my list of half completed, half researched, half written yaps, which is basically that, yeah, we're running into a situation with Trinity Rodman where she's. Obviously, there's interest in her overseas. And, you know, kind of the same thing happening with Project B. Crazy name for a women's league, if you're really thinking about it. Really evokes birth control methods of a certain. Yeah, like a backup plan. But like, yeah, we're coming down to a situation where it's like, if these women's leagues aren't going to pony up the Cash, which it's seeming like they don't want to. And that's across the board with athletes. But women are obviously starting way lower and asking for their money to kind of be commensurate way with the money that other teams get in relation or other players get in relation to their leagues. But either across the board, no owners voluntarily going, like, you know, let's give them more money. I think it's. Everybody's being like this except foreign powers that be. And so it's seeming like there's a possibility Trinity Rodman might play overseas. And then you get into conversations about, like, does Trinity Rodman have a responsibility to grow the game here? Is that fair to ask of her or any female athlete that they would sacrifice the amount of money that could make in their limited window to. With their body, which could go at any moment in their career, could be over. What do they owe to a league to stick around? And what does the league owe to them? And how do we get the league to pay them? So things get a little sad, a little fast. So I think we should all enjoy that. We may see Trinity Rodman playing in this final. We get to see other U.S. women's national team names that we've come to know and love. We're in a changing of the guards time for US Women's National Team. And so it's good to see them on a big stage like this. It's gonna be 8pm Eastern on Saturday, this final on CBS. I love that Sunday. I listen. I tuned in, but it was. I had to, annoyingly. I had, like, red zone on my laptop, and it was too much to follow. But I know that sounds crazy because no goals were really scored until the very end. But, like, I didn't want to not be paying attention to the actual game. It was just a lot. So Saturday is fine. Cause you know me, college football not really my bag. And so that's great. I'm excited. Looking forward to this. It's Gotham's second NWSL final appearance. Having lifted the trophy in 2023. You'll remember coolest photo ever taken of an athlete was taken of Mitch Purse after that game when she got named MVP and she had the cigar in her mouth. And I've been saying that I want to put her in one of those frames that we have in here, but I keep forgetting to actually do it. There was catching Marta having conversations with like Sonnet throughout the game, like other people throughout the. It was just like a. She's just been so important for women's soccer and is doing it at her. At her big age and still doing it at such a high level. She's non committal on her future. After this weekend's loss. One of the league's biggest stars on the shortlist for the MARTA award. Which is incredible. If you're gonna.

Of course. Hell yeah. Shout out to them. Quick NHL thing before we go into NFL. Did you see this Jack Hughes story about his hand? So he. Jack Hughes is out for a long time. Eight weeks. This story. Jack Hughes, the story happened over the weekend that they were out to dinner, a team dinner, and he cut his hand. And so he was going to be out that night. And then as more details started to emerge, I think the story that we've gotten is that he was like leaning on a glass or something and the glass shattered in his hand and he was going to get surgery on his hand. I have to. I get paid every time I say hand. And now we find out he's gone. He's out for eight week. Did his finger fall off? What the. Is this injury? I know there's a lot of. I had a friend once who was making guacamole for a party, and she dropped the knife and like jumped back and it landed in her foot. Like, knife side. Like, it landed in her foot. And when she went. We got her to the hospital. I. Me. I passed out. I was like a goat. I immediately was like, I don't need to be here or any of this. And then they. From what I heard, they got her to the hospital and she was like. They told me how lucky I was to have missed big tendons. Like your. Your foot's just a mess of tendons. And I imagine your hand is similar, right? Cause it's your upstairs foot. And. Or. Or maybe your foot's your downstairs hand. I don't know. But I just. I. I'm.

I agree. And so I think that, like, I am not trying to be ignorant to all the damage you can do to your hand with a glass, but, like, bro, they were at dinner. Eight weeks, you're out. What? That's some baseball shit. That's some. We do a tradition with an ax in the locker room before the game, and, oops, I cut my toe off. Like, that's crazy.

The baseball of it is that it have. Having worked in baseball so long, I immediately call bullshit on any story involving hands where every year you'll have a baseball player like, oh, I shut my hand in the door. I'm out for six weeks. I'm like, no, you punched a wall like a dumbass.

Right? Remember when. Who was it? Was it Nate Burleson when he was on the Lions that said that he got injured? He had a pizza in his car in the passenger seat, and he had to, like, slam on his brakes or something to stop the pizza from going off the seat, and he was like. And I broke my. And everybody was like, really? That's.

By the way, speaking about hand injuries and things like that, I have a story that I can lend to an athlete the next time that they want to find an excuse for doing something silly. When I was in my early 20s, me and my buddies would brew our own beer. And there is certain, you know, procedure for what you should do when you're bottling the beer and how quickly you can put it in the ice and things like that. And I think one of the, one of the beers, one of the tubs that we brewed, we might have put into the ice a little bit too early because we're at a buddy's place. And we were all sitting on the couch and there was the cooler next to us, the Esky next to us, and we just heard a pop.

[Brady]

Oh, no.

[Chris]

And we all looked around and we're like, what was that pop? And my buddy looked down and his hand was sliced open because the top of the beer bottle had popped off from the bottom half of the beer bottle and the shard of glass sliced his hand open.

And he had to go to the hospital. He had to leave the party and, and get it.

[Brady]

I'm sorry for him. How many beers in was he. Because that determines how quickly that blood was flowing. If you cut yourself when you've been drinking it.

No, I think it was relatively early on in the night, thankfully, where we could still like, good be like. We were fine driving him to, to the hospital, but it was, it was nuts. It had flown over me because he was. I was sitting in between the. The Esky and him and so it just passed over me.

And that's why Australians now just put their beer in absurdly large aluminum cans.

I once. The last time, the first, and maybe not first, but definitely the last time, I wore open toed shoes to a bar like flip flops. My friend dropped. We were at the Tin Alley Grill. I mean, Jesus, of all the places to be. Wasn't even like a great night out. She just dropped a glass and it exploded next to my foot. But. But the pressure from it exploding sent a shard of glass into my pinky toe and I literally almost lost My pinky toe, as I said literally, I'm like, maybe chill. I don't know if maybe you literally almost lost it. But it really. I mean, my pinky toe is tiny. Show. The pinky toe is there. The nail on it is fucking disgusting. The nail on my pinky toe, when I paint it with nail polish, but it's like a dot, it looks at me and goes like, are you fucking kidding me? You're painting skin. Can we both acknowledge that you're just painting skin? Dude, my pinky toe is so small. Small. But anyway, it almost cut my toe off and so. But the blood, I was so drunk at that point and the. I was like, is really bleeding. Yeah, dude, this is not good. So anyway, I hope he's okay. Eight weeks. Usually you hear at the end of a hockey season, hey, this guy's been playing with a collapsed lung. And now you're like, they went out to dinner, he mishandled a glass. You're not going to see him for two and a half months. I don't know. Two months. What are we calling eight weeks? Two months? What is time? Let's talk about the NFL. I didn't see this until just now. Peacock is debuting a reality TV themed NFL alt cast called Reality Hot Seat on December 7th. So last week NBC announced that they're going to do an alt cast. That's when they take a game because they've got the rights to the game and instead of it having the booth that you would normally have, the commentators, they give you other people. So like Manning cast is an alt cast and that is usually they get rid of the announcers of the game. They put on screen Eli Peyton and somebody that's actually entertaining and then they, they watch a game with you. So it's not. Not being forced on you. This is an option that's being put on by NBC.

It's like what they've done with the Nickelodeon game as well, where they turn games into like a Nickelodeon themed broadcast to bring kids into it and have kids be interested in the broadcast.

The ancient, the ancient art of throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. This feels like they're trying to capture an audience. They're. I like it. December 7th, Sunday Night Football between the Chiefs and the Texans. Peacock will stream the alternative telecast called Reality Hot Seat, which will feature several of reality TV's biggest stars. Now we're talking about this hot on the heels of Bravo Con. Isabella, did you watch? Do you. Did you get any Bravo Con content this weekend? I did not at all. I've never even heard of that. Wow. So, Isabella, the worse they do, the better the pick that they will receive in an upcoming draft. You know that.

I'm just making sure, watching more college football now, being like, I like this one. This is a pass rusher we need.

Fun hope has been gone. This game was so weird.

And both teams had a chance to score under two minutes. And neither team could like. The big takeaway was that with under two minutes to go, the Dolphins went down to the two yard line. The game was tied. And the way football works is that you need one more point than the other team to win.

Browns rookie quarterback Shador Sanders made his NFL debut Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, coming on at the start of the second half after Dylan Gabriel sustained a concussion. It was unfortunate timing, but fans had been chanting for him in the first half, and then when Gabriel went out with the concussion, then they were. Then. Then he did come out, so they got what they wanted. I don't think they were hoping that he would get hurt in some way.

It just is hat. Yeah, it just sort of worked out this way. And how did it go? Well, Isabella, he threw 16 passes, and four of them were caught.

One of them was caught by the other team. He threw a pick 47 yards. There was a pick. He got sacked twice. He said, I don't think I played good after the game, which is good. I also heard him say it felt good to take a hit, and I was like, that's what I would want to hear from my quarterback in that situation. He said he hadn't taken a hit since Colorado, and it was. It felt good. He felt alive. It was good to be back out there. Okay, so we'll see goals achieved. People have a lot of strong opinions on this family, and because of that, I go, I don't. You guys fight about it. I don't want to. I'm protecting my peace. Okay, let's talk about the MLB awards, because we haven't talked about this since they happened. We missed all of this last week, you're saying?

Wow. Okay. NL MVP went to SH Otani. An important reminder for anybody who's new with baseball, they cannot take postseason. This is across all sports, right? That they don't take postseason into account. I don't know if it's. I don't think of. I can't think of one either. They don't take postseason stuff into account. So once the season is over, those are the numbers and stories that they're basing these awards off of. Because I saw a lot of people being like, what about when we were doing Cy Young? They were like, yamamoto should get it. It's like. Well, they can't take into account how incredible and like record setting his postseason loss. So anyway, Ohtani, unanimous winner of his fourth MVP in five years. Years. Another reason why every casual sportsman needs to watch this guy play. Another reason why we need to make sure they don't lock out this sport. It is. Otani is unreal. I think I saw he's the only guy to do to win 2 Al MVPs and 2 NL MVP.

Yeah. Cuz there's only so many guys who have 4 in general.

What in the actual F. He's so good. He got all 30 first place votes from the BBWA. It's just so funny to me. It's just so funny to me how many guys like old guys in baseball during these award shows are like, welcome back to the bbwaa. Like somebody in another room is just hearing the first three and going, what the are they watching in there? It could also just be the bw. Why do we have to bb Baseball's one word.

You don't have a problem with an AA just for bbw.

Yeah. Sometimes you got to recover. You know what I'm saying? It's 12 steps. Steps. Make sure they aren't up the stairs or the thing's only gonna get here. Okay. Ohtani was already the only player among the four major American professional sports with more than one unanimous mvp. Now he's the first player in Major League Baseball, NBA, NHL and NFL history to win both an MVP and a championship in each of his first two seasons with a team. He's good. Okay. He's good. Okay. And here's the thing. I. This is why I know my take on the ALMVP and is like not. It's not just Judge. It's not just fatigue because I don't have Ohtani fatigue, but I am frustrated that Aaron Judge beat out Dumper for the AL mvp. We've been campaigning all season for Big Dumper to be named the MVP in the American League, and he was not. It went to Aaron Judge. Now, Aaron Judge had an amazing season. Aaron Judge is incredible. Everybody loves Aaron Judge. If you look at the war, if you look at the F war, if you look at the wrc. Plus if you look at the. I don't fucking. It's. I'm so tired. It's like. It just. I'm frustrated because I'm. I feel like we're not doing a good job of representing that there's people who like sports for other than just like the numbers. And I know his Numbers are fucking amazing. And that's so great that he got the mvp. And I'm not even like, look, I didn't really think Cal was gonna. But there has to be something. What award goes to what California did? What award goes to the guy that, like, captured the heart of a nation? Like, what award goes to the guy that is a catcher and led MLB in home runs and RBI during the season?

What go. What. What does he get? Because he didn't get anything. And you're like, so we're just going to have to remember that he. That was that year. He. Something should commemorate. Yeah. Okay.

Get in line. I guess, like, this is. I don't know. I just think, like, I hope the. I know people always. Athletes will say whether, like, the. The awards is not about the awards, it's about. And I know he would have rather probably won the World Series than even be considered for an MVP award, but it's like, I. I do hope he knows, like, what his season meant to his fans and to baseball fans. I know a lot of people. Seattle has done this a couple times across the country. Like, ignited our love for this sport, which is our national pastime in a way that I think we really should be showing appreciation for. Like, tuned in for the big dumper and tuned in for Seattle, and they continue to do that. And they. I just feel so. Just feel so bad for them. Can't they have anything, you know, other than the fish that get thrown? Can't they have something. Okay, real quick. We. We can't skip this because I like this segment too much. I remember he told Cam Newton, Cam Newton had said something critical of him and he said, like, he should try quarterbacking. He had. He was a quarterback. He's very famously played the position. There was another time they were playing the Bills and he was talking about his opposing quarterback, Josh Allen, and he said, man, there's stuff that guy can do. I could never do that. You're like, ah, now this one I could see. But in the context of like, you're about to play him, maybe now's not the time we say that there's been more. Oh, and when he said that he couldn't see, the reason he didn't get, he didn't target some of his best targets is because he's pretty short and the, the linemen are tall and he couldn't see over them. And it's not a good idea to throw when you, you can't see, which is just so this, you're thinking, what could he possibly have said? Katie, you're just nitpicking. You're nitpicking at this point. You're attacking this guy. It's borderline on bullying. He couldn't possibly have said anything stupid enough to warrant being played in this segment. Well, Tua was asked because they were playing internationally in the Madrid game. He was asked if there was somewhere in Europe that he would like to play. Where would that be? Be? I know that'd be sick. It's just, even if, because I try to, I try to allow for athletes in season to be ignorant to a point, I just try to save my own sanity. I go, look, these guys are so quote, unquote, laser focused, they couldn't possibly have awareness about the world. I can't, I can't to them to have a take about geopolitical situations, it's unreasonable. I understand why some people do it. My personal philosophy ever since Tom Brady put a hat in his locker was that I had to go like, these guys are kind of dumb and just allow for that. Cause they're good at football. That's what we like them for. And if they speak up about an injustice they've faced, always listen because they're speaking about their personal experience. But when it comes to geopolitical conflict, assume they don't fucking know. No. Okay. But even if you don't have a good take on this, to bring it up unprompted when you're not being asked about the situation specifically to go like, you know what I'd like to talk about? I'd like to talk about Israel. I think right now in front of all of you is fucking crazy. The only thing I can think of that is this level of crazy is when Eric Adams brought up, I was just thinking that, wait, I'm thinking of something else. Well, that's crazy. It's crazy that you were also Thinking of an Eric Adams thing. Eric Adams being the TUA of politics, or two, of being the Eric Adams. I don't know which one's a bigger insult, and I don't want to wade into these waters, but Eric Adams was once asked what he loved the most about New York, and he said, 9 11. Now, that sentence could go a lot of ways. It didn't go, I guess, as badly as you. You could be thinking he's a serial talker. Draymond Green. And he got upset with a fan over the weekend. Weekend. Who was repeatedly shouting Angel Reese's name at him because several of Green's early rebounds resulted from his short range misses. Here's what he said about the incident after the game. It was a good joke at first.

Went on away. I could think of a lot worse things to call you. You know, hey, you there.

But I get. But look, I'm not going to get offended about this. If you just keep calling him that, he's going to get annoyed. So I get it. But, like, it's. I'm not. It doesn't upset me, but it's like, Draymond, I think that's what he just kept calling me. Woman.

But his justification, and it was sort of hard to hear it in the second half of that clip, but what he was saying, saying is, I've got four kids and one more on the way. You can't keep calling me a woman.

It's like, women famously can have four kids and one on the way. In fact, that's where that. Guess who's cooking it up.

It's. It's such a weird thing to connect with the angel race.

And then again, I say they might just be dumb. You know what I'm saying? I just, like, I just think he didn't like being called somebody else's name and that somebody else was a woman he didn't want to be. He maybe felt emasculated by it. So I would say, in other words, words. It worked. I feel like that's probably what the guy was trying to do, and it worked, so. No, you shouldn't have said that out loud because clearly it bothered you and you should have just. Aren't you supposed to just, like, not let it bother you?

The first thing that I wanted to touch on this stems from an email that we got from Matt. So let me read out Matt's email and then I'll tell you what event specifically I'll highlight. Okay, so Matt's says West Virginia played number 15, Duke tonight. This is when he sent his email. This is last week and at the end of the first half, six Mountaineer players got ejected for coming off the bench. That left West Virginia with only five players for the entire second half. Only one of those a starter. Not only did they hang with Duke, they won by eight. It was one of the grittiest performances I've ever seen. Absolutely unbelievable. And you know he wanted to say that his family are big West Virginia fans. His 13 year old son proudly wears the number of his favorite women's play players. Everyone watches women's sport. Love you, mean it. So Fantastic. From West Virginia. Right. So I wanted to highlight that program. They got a game coming up on Thursday against App state. That's at 10:15am Eastern. This is the first of five test matches. It's beginning in Perth. You have the first five day test match and then they move on to a different city. They go to Brisbane and Adelaide, then Melbourne, then Sydney and then whoever wins the most amount of test matches out of those five claim the Ashes. Right. So the Ashes, I don't know. Have I explained to you what they are and what the trophy is?

[Brady]

I don't think if you have. I forgot.

The Ashes is a rivalry specifically between Australia and England. And it started in 1882 when Australia and England were having a friendly match between one another and Australia won. And there was a newspaper article in England, England that wrote in affectionate remembrance of English cricket, which died at the Oval 29 August 1882. Deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing friends and acquaintances. RIP the body will be cremated and the Ashes taken to Australia.

So was talking about how this is the end of English cricket. And so someone made a joke out of that and bought one of the English cricket players a little urn filled with the ashes of what most people believe to be like a basket bale of like on. On the stumps where you see behind the batsman they've got like those three wicket stumps on the top of those stumps. It's called a bale. And so most people believe that the Ashes are made up of a bale from that game.

Is this trophy that I'm going to mention to you better or worse than the Ashes? So we got an email from Audrey who said. Hey, Katie. And the casualties. The World cup ski racing season has begun. A sport I'm incredibly not casual about. So I'm excited to report some news from the first slalom race of the season. Michaela Shiffrin won this Saturday's race.

[Katie Nolan]

Do that slalom.

[Brady]

We can't let him do that. Is in Australia. Is it slalom or is this. We can edit this. It is.

[Katie Nolan]

Does Chris get a pass on just up any word so.

[Brady]

Because we. It's his culture and I don't know if that's how they say it in Australia, but I don't even know how it's pronounced either way. Nuts. Slalom is where the witch trials happened. Okay. This is slalom.

[Katie Nolan]

Slalom was where the most fabulous witch trials ever occurred.

[Chris]

Dude. Anyway, Michaela Shiffrin won this Saturday's race in Levi, Finland. This is her 65th slalom victory and overall her 102nd World cup victory. So you may be wondering what makes this one so special. Well, the prize for winning this race in Levi is a reindeer. Yes, a real live reindeer. And Michaela just won her ninth reindeer. Putting her in competition with Santa Claus.

[Brady]

Wait, what Love is.

[Chris]

You mean it?

[Brady]

Love. You mean it, Audrey. Wait, what do you mean she. How many does Santa have? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and. And Ann Rudolph. So that's not. That's nine. She has as many. What?

[Katie Nolan]

Yeah, I looked it up.

[Chris]

She had.

[Katie Nolan]

She said she has nowhere to put reindeer. So, like she rented out a farm in Finland where he's reindeer go.

[Brady]

That's crazy. Does she get. I assume she gets other stuff, not just a reindeer.

[Katie Nolan]

No proof of it.

[Chris]

It seems more of a hassle than anything else.

[Brady]

Right. That's like when Pimp My Ride used to pimp people's ride. And then they'd be like, okay. And you have to pay these insurance costs. And they are through the roof. And people were like, I can't afford this. What do you want? You've saddled me with this reindeer and I have no presents to deliver. If I had nine reindeer and Christmas came, I would feel really guilty about not at least trying to get them to work together to car a sleigh and me and some gifts to some kids. That's. I'm just saying. Not saying that Mikaela Shifrin has to. She's very busy. And I'm also really happy to see her back. She had a tough Olympics. Was that the last. Was that her last Olympics? It had to be.

[Katie Nolan]

Must have been. That's four years ago.

[Brady]

Yeah, but she. I'm rooting for her. She's awesome. So good to hear. And I'm glad she's got a full fleet now. And I think she just. One of them has to have a medical anomaly and be shamed by the other reindeer to go through its own coming of age tale to then come, come back, be told it's cute. And then they'll all fly and it's great. I see this all happening. I watched the claymation of this movie every year.

[Chris]

So I know exactly what's the better trophy, Katie. The 10 centimeter urn or the reindeer.

[Brady]

Or the reindeer. Yeah, I'm gonna say the trophy. Cause it doesn't poop and pee, Chris.

[Chris]

That's a good point.

[Katie Nolan]

The frequency with which I lose my AirPods though. You can't give me a 4 inch tall trophy.

[Brady]

I do. I also have a recurring nightmare that I have a. That I got a dog, but it's like 2cm tall and I sit on it because it's on the couch and I don't see it and it dies. Oh, like that episode Soprano. It's a recurring nightmare, Chris. It's a. It happens. Not. It's like maybe once or twice a year, but I wake up and go like, I killed my dog. It was so small.

[Katie Nolan]

Myrtle, where are you? Tell me your real size.

[Brady]

Be big and bark at me. All right, what else? Is that it? Is that all we're watching this week?

[Chris]

Well, no, not yet. Because the second Australian thing that I want to sort of mention and explain to you because there's a weird little quirk in this. The AFL draft is on this weekend and Carlton have pick nine and 11 this draft. But I may as well not watch it because we already know who we're going to draft because there is such a thing in Australian football called the father son rule, that if someone's father played 100 games for a specific club, as long as the team and the son agree, we can just draft them.

[Brady]

Really?

[Chris]

Yep. So there's a kid called Harry Dean, British.

[Brady]

I feel it's very codified nepotism. We get in whole debates over whether that's allowed. And in Australia they go, come on.

[Katie Nolan]

It'S all Princeton legacies.

[Chris]

This has been going on since 1949.

[Brady]

Okay, don't say that like that makes it okay. A lot of things went on a long time ago, and that doesn't make them good.

[Chris]

But Harry Dean's dad played for Carlton in the 90s and he is going. He's projected to be like a top three pick if he was just out in the open draft. But we're gonna. We're gonna draft him even though we don't have a top three pick. So it's a very interesting quirk. They've now adopted it for the Carlton women's side as well. So, like the. The AFLW have implemented the father daughter rule.

[Brady]

I like that. Yeah, that is cool.

[Chris]

They're trying to figure out whether eventually they incorporate the daughter son, the. The mother son rule once the AFLW has been along for around for long enough. So it's a cool thing to sort of keep the tradition. Tradition of certain names within clubs.

[Brady]

You sold me alive.

[Chris]

Which is. Which is fun. And actually one of Carlton's AFLW players who was the first Carlton father daughter player is playing for us this weekend in the preliminary final, which is our version of the semi final. Carlton are playing against Brisbane. The winner of that game goes on to the grand final. So good luck to the Carlton women's team. Hopefully we can get the win and go on to the grand finals.

[Brady]

And yes, good luck to them. And that's enough Australia for me. I think I've had about enough there. I do want to say my favorite thing about this fight. Father son rule is the thought of a kid who has a dad who played but who wasn't that good and them being mad at them because they're like, now I have to get picked. Whereas if you could have just sucked it up and been good at this, I could have walked directly onto your squad. And I like that. And that's fun for me. All right, last.

The Lakers tried this with Bronnie James where they're like, they Told the rest of the NBA, you guys can't have Bronnie. We get Bronnie.

[Chris]

And the rest of the league was.

[Brady]

Like, you're all set. All set. Nothing to worry about. That's like calling dibs. And. And everyone's like, yeah, we were good. It wasn't even on our list, but you can have them. All right, and then what else are we watching? Last thing. Cause we gotta let these people go.

The PWHL season begins this week.
