Hello! It's the podcast that drafts basketball players solely on the ability to finish at the rack. Today, Katie and the Casualties get into Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd going public with their relationship and the state of sports power couples, Tyrese Haliburton's injury, the Thunder, and the most bored-looking NBA champions of all-time, the Celtics trading for Anfernee Simons, the Rockets trading for Kevin Durant, and whether there's hypocrisy in disliking KD, the existence of Fanatics Fest and the lore of Dr. Moist Muffins, the sale of the Lakers to another sports mega-conglomerate, the tragedy of Tommy Fleetwood, Kelsey Plum, gamblers, card collectors, stalkers, and the state of WNBA fandom, and a completely mature preview of the NBA Draft.

Isabella
No.
Katie Nolan
Farm fresh flavor from our kitchen to your table is what it says. I don't believe that for a second.
Isabella
What does it taste like? You clearly have it in your hands. So.
Katie Nolan
No, this is. My dad clearly ate this. I'm at my parents house and he uses this to hold stuff. I guess he didn't want to say goodbye to the ham salad.
Isabella
It kind of looks like, I don't know, I guess imagine ham and you just like pounded it and you just like squished it all together and then you mixed it with mayo ingredients.
Katie Nolan
We have boneless diced ham.
Isabella
Thank God it's boneless because I would be upset if I chewed on a bone in a ham salad.
Katie Nolan
Crunchy ham salad. Sweet relish.
Isabella
Okay, that sounds kind of good.
Katie Nolan
Cream cheese. Oh my God.
Isabella
Is there at least mayo?
Katie Nolan
Whole eggs and yolks. Distilled vinegar. I think that makes mayo.
Isabella
Yeah, mayo, right?
Katie Nolan
Does it? Basically, water, sugar, salt, spices, fig.
Isabella
You know, I'll try anything once, so.
Katie Nolan
No way you'd eat this.
Isabella
Yeah, let's make it into like a spam. Actually, no, I don't want to do spam salad. That kind of sounds a little.
Katie Nolan
Ew, you're making it grosser somehow. Hi, welcome to Casuals, the sports podcast that keeps going even when there's really not a lot of sports going on. I mean, there's sports, there's just. We're in the dark days. I'm Katie Nolan. I'm Jo. Why are you making a face, Brady? It's like, known as the dark days of sports. Right now it's baseball, and that's basically.
Brady
It is baseball, golf in the wnba. What more do I need besides football.
Isabella
And tennis on Monday? God damn, there's so many sports going on.
Chris
You just wait till we get to the C block and we talk about all the things coming up over the next week. Then you'll realize we ain't in the dark.
Katie Nolan
Sorry, dark time's back. You guys are right. You're right. This is the hot. We're in the hot time of the calendar in the middle of a heat wave. Hot sports action. The casualties are here. I'm Katie Nolan. The casualties are also here. Isabella, Brady, and Chris. We're all remote. I'm in Massachusetts. Things are crazy. If you want to reach us, you can do that by email. Casuals with Katie nolan gmail.com voicemail. We are 646-801-0043 on IG and Tik Tok at Casualsthepodcast. No yap today. I was gonna say we're in the slow time of the sports calendar, but I see that my own friends don't even agree with me on that. So today's yap is how great are sports? We have so many great. We also, we do have a lot to get to because some of the sports wrapping up happened and we've got to talk about it. But of course, our number one story that Brady put in number one, let the record reflect he's an ally and he wants everybody to know Paige and Az Fudd are officially official. Now, Isabella and I took issue with this and said that we knew this. This happened a few weeks ago when they posted that TikTok of each other out to dinner talking about the bill or whatever. Yeah, whatever that that meme was. But Brady said no. Brady said nay.
Brady
I don't know if you know this about men and me being one, but we need very blunt signals about what a relationship is. And I need it spelled out in permanent marker on a in block lettering that we don't understand.
Isabella
Multilayered, multi layered TikTok ways of launching your relationship.
Brady
Absolutely not.
Katie Nolan
I need, like you don't know a soft launch when you see one.
Brady
I basically need something notarized.
Katie Nolan
Okay, well. And that's what you got. You got a phone case that says Paige Becker's girlfriend. And that was enough for you.
Brady
I'll do it.
Katie Nolan
To finally understand what was happening in front of you.
Brady
Some people say we don't need labels. Any labels. Anything's clearly labeled for me. I don't want to put them in a box if they're not in. Like, let's let them say that this is a relationship. I am Paige Becker.
Katie Nolan
Let them say they're in the boxes. That's fine. We get that. So congrats to them. A thing that gals knew and boys are just finding out.
Brady
But we are out there to celebrate like any athlete power couple that there is in the world. And we need way more.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Including. Including Stefon Diggs and Cardi B. They. We know they're dating, but Stefon Diggs posted this week on his story. I think that he like tagged Cardi B and was like, let them know that you're mine. Post about me more. So those two are doing it. They're out here. Here we go on that. And I just want to say that Boston sports teams, Massachusetts area sports teams are winning in terms of girlfriends in the rap game. We've got Megan Thee stallion is dating Chris. What's her boyfriend's name?
Chris
Tori Craig.
Katie Nolan
Tori Craig, a star of the Celtics, one of the star players, premier player on the Boston Celtics. And I think. Right, that's confirmed or is that just me? I think that's confirmed.
Chris
That is confirmed.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. And then. Yeah. And Cardi B is dating Stefon Diggs, who's you may forget, is on the Patriots so long as he's not facing any disciplinary action for whatever that unidentified pink substance was that they had on a boat. So shout out Boston. We up in some way? No, it's like a. It was like a pink crystal. I don't. I'm gonna sound like a mommy. I don't know a lot about the new drugs, so I think a lot of people immediately identified it. Yeah, I just do the old ones. You know, I thought we had enough, but I guess the youths have innovated in the space and they saw that pink stuff and immediately knew what it was, not me.
Brady
How far are we from the first male same sex power athlete couple?
Katie Nolan
Oh, God, I wish it was now. I really do. I think about this all the time when we talk about the wnba where I'm like the drama in the personal Relationships. It's like the NBA is kind of robbing us of that by not letting them kiss.
Brady
It's right there. It's a whole new layer.
Katie Nolan
It's right there. I know.
Brady
Well, soon talked it up with the nws. It's a layer that you don't understand. Like, how intriguing it gets when you suddenly add into the drama of sports, and now you also have teammates dating each other and then stopping dating each other and rosters being torn apart or brought together by love.
Katie Nolan
I know. And I'm not. Here's the thing. I'm not going to hold my breath just because in terms of progress, I do feel we are going backwards at the moment. You know, a woman's right to shoes, as Gary Bradshaw famously said. So I don't think we're gonna be moving forward in a way that makes people feel safe. And it sucks to have this conversation during Pride Month, but a lot of stuff happening during Pride Month has sucked. I don't know that we're gonna get there, but I'll let you guys know. Any male athlete, we are rooting for you. When you're ready, we're ready to talk about it in a positive and supportive way. We're ready to spill your tea in a way that's fun and supportive. So kiss.
Brady
What sport will it be?
Isabella
Ooh.
Katie Nolan
Of the four majors or of. I think it has to be.
Brady
I think it has to be four majors. MLS had openly gay players before that didn't get highly reported on. So I. I think, like, multiple.
Katie Nolan
Like many.
Brady
Rogers was out and playing. I think I. I think there were others after him. Like, that was a long way back. But if you were to say four.
Katie Nolan
So between basketball, football, basketball, football, hockey.
Isabella
Basketball, I'm rooting for football.
Chris
It'll be basketball, I'd say.
Katie Nolan
I think so.
Brady
Football has the largest roster.
Katie Nolan
It wouldn't be baseball.
Brady
You just have the most men.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Brady
On one team. In football.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. But it's just so much the. But the. The. The. The.
Isabella
That's what I'm saying. That's why I'm rooting for it to be.
Katie Nolan
Be football. Yeah. They're so. I don't know. I just feel like the toxicity of the fan base would be tough. Same thing kind of with baseball. Baseball is a lot more traditional than you realize until you work in it for a year and then you go, wow, you guys are really like that. So. I don't know. I. I just. I think they should all do it together. I think that there should be four players in all four of the major sports that band together and go on the same day. Let's all let everyone know. So shout out to tip Paige and Az and I guess also Stefan Diggs and Cardi B. I will just say my only basis for knowledge of Stefan Diggs and what he's like when he dates is. Is that video that. I don't even remember when this was. Was this when he was on the Vikings?
Brady
This is the Vikings. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
When they went around to every player and they asked like, if you're sister was, who wouldn't you want her to date on the team? And everybody was like, diggs.
Brady
Diggs.
Katie Nolan
Like, immediately was like, Diggs. And there's gotta be. There's something behind that, a reason. So I don't know what it is. And I know Cardi B. I don't know what her sign is, but I can guarantee she is it to A. To a T. She's very like a little unlucky in relationships.
Brady
Libra.
Katie Nolan
And she gets. She's a library. Mm. She gives a lot of chances to people who maybe have done. I don't know, absolutely nothing to deserve them. So I just hope that this is. Please be good to each other. Okay. Please be good to each other. Cause you're so. You're so cute together. You're like, you look great. And we're rooting for it. We were all rooting for you. Okay. The actual probably lead news of the podcast today should be that the Oklahoma City Thunder have won the Larry.
Brady
Congratulations.
Katie Nolan
Congrats. The Larry is in. Is in kind of enthused hands. I don't know if you.
Chris
I was gonna say the way that we just celebrated then was probably more than the players on the OKC Thunder celebrated.
Katie Nolan
I smiled. I certainly smiled more than they did just then. The OKC Thunder are NBA champions after beating the Indiana Pacers 1 of 3 to 91 in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. Really frustrating game. I know everybody was looking forward to game seven and I know the overarching conversation around this finals was like two small markets. People don't care. I did. I did care. I became. You guys watched me say yes sirs. Over the course of. I just was super into this Pacers team and Tyrese Halliburton and the run that they were having. But just over halfway through the first quarter of that game, Tyrese Halliburton crumpled to the court and. And had an Achilles injury. This isn't the first of those. We've seen this even this postseason, right? Weren't. Wasn't. Dame. Yeah. Dame Was in Achilles. And Tatum.
Chris
Tatum. Yep.
Katie Nolan
And what all three of those guys.
Brady
Have in common, they all played basketball professionally.
Katie Nolan
That's correct.
Brady
They're all number zero. It's the weirdest coincidence. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Cursed a cursed number. So don't do it. I don't know. That just feels like a. I don't.
Chris
Like it strange, but, yeah, that injury really took the air out of the game. It happening so early. Obviously, Tyrese, we knew, was in a battle to get up for that game because he was battling a calf strain, but decided to play. Do not blame him whatsoever. This is game seven of the NBA Finals. You don't know if you're ever going to be back in an NBA Finals, so you do whatever you can to play. And went down in that first quarter. And then all of a sudden you're thinking, well, this is going to be very, very difficult for the paces to win this game now. And they. They, you know, played pretty well early on. They were up by a point at the half, but then once OKC sort of took the lead out to double digits, you knew it was going to be hard for the Paces to come back because they didn't have their guy that would always lead the charge in their comebacks. They didn't have him on the court.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it was frustrating because in the fourth quarter, I mean, they. The okc, could have run away with it, and they didn't. They kept it. The Pacers kept it close. But in that fourth quarter, you were like, this is where Halliburton would come in close this gap. Like, this is the. This would still be a game. But watching it was just kind of like, well, there goes that. And. And maybe that's why they celebrated the way they did. Maybe that's why when the final buzzer sounded, it kind of just felt like everybody was like, good job out there. Well, we won a championship.
Brady
And she just kind of walked over and barely smiled, shook some hands. The guys were just, like, milling about like we had just seen earlier in the day. College World Series ended, and it's a pile of 30 dudes diving on each other in the middle of the field. Like, when the Stanley Cup Finals ended. Players are throwing gloves. They're sitting around like maniacs.
Isabella
Did confetti come down or anything like that?
Katie Nolan
Oh, good question. I didn't notice it.
Isabella
I was watching, and I was like, is there any else? Is there something else gonna happen? Like, yeah, I thought there would be a little bit more.
Brady
Yeah, it had all the energy of just, like. They were like, God, thank God. It's over now. We.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. Yeah, it did. It felt like, okay, I'm ready for bed. Let's go to sleep. Like, it just felt like they were relieved to not have to do it anymore, which, I don't know, maybe that's just. We're old. Like, this is a young team. Maybe this is how a rised up youth celebrates. They don't want to be seen as trying.
Isabella
It's not like you just like, advanced the next round. You won the whole thing. So, like, I could see. I could see at some point, like, you kind of like, conserve the excitement at the end of winning. Like, say, like the Eastern Conference finals because you still have more to go, but, like, you won the whole thing.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Chris
You know, you need to have that release of energy.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. You would think.
Brady
The game ends and they're all just like, all right, game's over. The plan.
Katie Nolan
We still live it over.
Isabella
Like, guys, this doesn't even matter.
Brady
The world, like, democracy is amazing. All right, cool.
Katie Nolan
There's a heat wave taking our crops. We all got to get back to the farm. Right. That's Oklahoma City. That's how. That's how that place works.
Chris
Yeah. It's hard to figure out whether it's more like cockiness in that they assume that they are going to be back next year and back the year after that because they are such a young star studded team that you would expect them to sort of. This is the start of a potential dynasty. Even though we said that about the Celtics and you know, look, how does it feel?
Katie Nolan
Like the start of a potential dynasty.
Chris
Yes, it does. Because they are so young and they're so cheap and they still have so many draft picks and you know, the way that Sam.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, but they might lose that. They might lose Alex Caruso.
Chris
Imagine, you know, imagine finally won a legitimate ring. Did you hear him say that? Because he won with the Lakers in the bubble and he came out and said, I finally got a real one.
Katie Nolan
What does that mean?
Chris
Say that the Lakers championship was. Was fake as Celtics fans. Katie, it was a fake championship. What are you talking about?
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I know, but I just feel like it's.
Chris
It was a dig at the Lakers. I liked it. I know we don't like Caruso, but that was a. That was a good bit.
Katie Nolan
We don't. We don't. Did we talk about on this podcast yet that he's got a beautiful woman that he's engaged?
Chris
I think we brought it up last week. If we didn't. It was appreciated, but yes.
Katie Nolan
Still can't believe it.
Chris
But yeah, it was either. It's either them being too cocky or it's them or not having that. Years of trying and getting there. And then there's not that, you know, the monkey off the chest like we saw with Jayson Tatum last year when there's been so much pressure on that franchise and on these players for so long, and they finally have that, you know, sense of, we did it. Like, the monkey is off the back. OKC didn't have that.
Brady
I was so hoping that in Australia, the phrase is monkey off the chest, which you had said the first time. Just being on a different.
Chris
I say monkey off the chest the first time.
Brady
Damn.
Katie Nolan
I think we have to consider the possibility that it is cringe to be excited to win a championship, that the youths have determined being excited after winning something and accomplishing something is cringe and therefore no one do.
Isabella
That's so lame. Don't be the best. Ew.
Katie Nolan
Don't. Aura farm. Ew. Did you see Shane Gillis Alexander help a baby's Help a baby whose head was not being properly supported.
Brady
Yeah.
Isabella
So funny.
Brady
Get your next support game up.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. What are we doing? Have you ever held that baby before? I get it. You're busy, but it seems like you maybe haven't done that before.
Isabella
I love in the video, he's just in the back kind of like.
Katie Nolan
Like, looking at the face, going like, I think that should be. And then he, like, slowly puts his hand out like, may I assist with the. But does. Does Shay have kids?
Chris
Yes, he does.
Katie Nolan
Oh.
Chris
Welcome. Their first child in April 2024.
Katie Nolan
Oh, congrats. I was gonna say, it also does kind of give the energy. And now I know that this is wrong, but it gives the energy of person with no kids knowing one thing about babies and thinking that they have to tell the person who's holding the, like, oh, you're supposed to support its head. When really it's like, yeah, we know they're past that age. I turn this kid upside down all the time, but he has kids. So maybe that's not what it was, but I felt I. It resonated with me a lady who goes, Isn't that. Aren't you supposed to. Okay, so they won. And fine. What. Anything else exciting?
Chris
This is the seventh different NBA champion in the last seven years. So it just goes to show the parody that we currently have in the NBA, which is something that the NBA have been striving for for a long, long time. So seven champions in the last seven years. Pretty cool.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. That is Very cool. But now because of that dynasty you mentioned, that's over.
Chris
They are the favorites for next year. If they something to they were historically good this year. From a regular season and postseason perspective, they put up some historically good numbers. There's no reason to think that they can't run this back. But again, we said this with the Celtics last year and then going into the postseason, Jaylen Brown was dealing with an injury. Chris Apps Blazingis was dealing with an injury. I'm not even going to put Tatum's injury in there because I think the Knicks had that series wrapped up before Tatum injured his Achilles anyway. But you need to have so much luck as well as so much talent to win a championship.
Katie Nolan
Isabella's face when the Knicks get mentioned.
Brady
True story. Are you going to remember this season as like when the Thunder won the championship? Because it feels like every I'm going.
Katie Nolan
To remember everything the Pacers did. It's kind of crazy. I will remember the Pacers more. Yeah I it was just a more exciting and I'm sure people in OKC are annoyed to hear that, but it just is what it is like. It felt like the the Thunder were the inevitability. Everybody kept being like that's how this is going to go and it is what ended up happening in the least exciting way. The the fight that the Pacers put up to me was the most they.
Brady
Showed way more emotion post game than the Thunder.
Katie Nolan
Speaking of the Celtics, Celtics mentioned Drew Holiday traded to the Trailblazers. Boston Celtics have traded guard Drew Holiday to the Portland Trailblazers for an Simons and a pair of future second round picks. Chris, you're the basketball expert here, but I will say my dumb ass thinks this is great. I think this is a fantastic trade. Is that correct?
Chris
That's correct. It we knew we sort of the Celtics needed to shed some salaries. They saved some money in this trade for Anthony Simons.
Katie Nolan
Don't care. You know, I don't care about the money that they save.
Chris
True.
Katie Nolan
But you know I don't care.
Chris
It does impact in a salary cap league like this, it does impact the moves that you're able to make down the track. So it gives them more flexibility for moves down the track. It's not just about the ownership saving money. It's about just giving the team more options depending on how well they perform in the first half of the year.
Brady
Move to a bigger yacht.
Chris
But Anthony Simons is offensively a very good player. He is really going to add a lot to a squad that will be without Jayson Tatum for most, if not all of next season. Defensively, there's a lot to, you know, a lot to be desired. Like he's not the best defensive player, but he's a good piece. To have is an expiring contract which again, gives the team flexibility heading into the year. There's still no guarantee, by the way, that the Celtics will keep him. Like, he could be traded within the next few weeks if another deal comes around where they can shed even more salary and get more picks in return. But on face value, if we go into the season with Anthony Simons on the roster, I think that's a pretty good spot and a pretty good, you know, bridge for this team while Jason Tatum is out. If you've got Jalen Brown got Christopsing us, you got Anthony Simons. That's a decent. That's a decent three.
Katie Nolan
That's what I've always wanted to be called, the decent three. We've got the decent three here in Boston.
Brady
The decent thing was to hold your trade until Monday, the day after the NBA Finals. That's when you get your trade done. Because the asshole move is to have your trade get announced the morning of Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
Katie Nolan
Why is that?
Brady
Why Kevin Durant gets traded to the Rockets the morning of Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
Katie Nolan
Why is that an asshole thing to do?
Brady
God forbid you just let these two teams have their moment. Like, you let these two teams.
Katie Nolan
I mean. I mean, they're gonna have their moment. They had to play the seventh game. So I don't you think, Kevin?
Isabella
Yeah, like, I didn't hear it. And I'm like, oh, man, I care about the Rockets now.
Katie Nolan
I think Durant was like, let's announce this the day of. I don't think he. I blame Michael Rubin.
Brady
Oh, I. Absolutely. There's so much conspiracy theory of that getting announced on Sunday morning of the NBA Finals. Sucking the oxygen out of the room.
Katie Nolan
This weekend was something called Fanatics Fest. A thing that I feel we've been like, I don't know, made to believe. Has always been a long standing tradition and it has only been around for like a couple years. But whenever I hear about it, it's always like, it's finally time for Fanatics Fest. I don't even know what this is. It's. It happens in a convention center, right? And every famous athlete, they get big names come to this convention center and what Brady do panels, walk around in panels.
Brady
They sign autographs, they play games on stage. It's basically. You can just bubble the Whole thing as content factory.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I feel like it's bring your.
Brady
Phone zoo of athletes. You show up and watch them do tricks.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it's very circus like, like yeah.
Isabella
Athletes.
Katie Nolan
Sporticon.
Isabella
Sporticon.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, the Michael Rubicon. The announced at Fan Fanatics Fest was that Kevin Durant, who we all knew was going to get traded is. Is getting traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green. Dylan brooks, the number 10 overall pick and five second round picks, quite a lot. Kevin Durant's 36 years old, a 15 time All Star, two time NBA Finals MVP, 11 time All NBA selection. He also how many. He's got a lot of Olympic gold medals as well.
Chris
All of them.
Katie Nolan
He's averaged 25 points on 38, three point shooting. I mean this is what I care about the most each of the past five seasons. He's the only player to do so. And yet nobody, nobody. People don't like Kevin Durant. I do.
Chris
Yeah, it's because he speaks up for himself. It's because he is outspoken, a lot more so than a lot of these other players. And I don't think people like it. I think people like being able to say whatever they want to athletes without getting the athletes views of that interaction thrown back.
Katie Nolan
Brady, as a hater, your response.
Brady
He's extremely online.
Katie Nolan
And so what? So are we.
Brady
It's probably a generational thing. Even though I, I don't know, I might be like three years older than him, but it feels like he's engaged with just everything. And I grew up where the athletes were, the Derek Jeters and you know, you shrug it all off in all the discourse and people talking about you. It was all kind of beneath you. And I guess my dislike of the way that Kevin Durant handles things is probably. It's so new or it's so odd to just. What I'm used to is that he will engage with everything. Like the man has been exposed to multiple Instagram burner accounts where he will just engage with people talking about Kevin Durant online. If you say something, he sees it and doesn't like it, he will jump in as a burner, as himself. Like Kevin Durant hears everything. And part of me is like, man, you don't need to listen to. But then the other part was like, I get it, you're human. People are saying these things like you can stick up for yourself. But it's so different from the way that every athlete of his caliber has traditionally just processed information, except maybe Reggie Jackson.
Katie Nolan
This criticism in my Opinion always comes from people who do not know what it's like to have the world talk about you online. And I think that like numbers wise law of averages or whatever, it's wild there there isn't more. Kevin Durant's in this aspect. In a world where a lot of people are always on their phones scrolling, we're all addicted to our phones and reading things on our phones, it makes perfect sense to me that there's an athlete who is on his phone and scrolling and participating in the conversation. And I know originally when he was on Twitter as a burner account and got caught and that was a whole story, I understood this. But then once he was like, no, I'm actually just gonna be as me screw my burner account. I'm just going to interact with stuff and tweet back at people. I think it's like really hypocritical of people who don't shut up online to dislike him for reading it. Like he should somehow exist in some other reality where online doesn't exist just because of who he is. Like we, there are people who are incredibly online. I would bet a lot of them are incredibly online and just reading stuff and never responding. And that's almost to me, worse. They're just lurking. Kevin Durant's like, I'm out here and I'm reading this and I'm dunking on you. Is he perfect? No. Does he make mistakes? Sure. I just think he's representation for us, the scrollers, the people who check and read things and stay tuned in to the Internet. Because being famous in any capacity, athlete, actor, whatever, shouldn't mean that you can't like use the Internet the way everybody else uses the Internet.
Chris
I think I will say there is one other reason why I think certain people don't particularly like Kevin Durant. And that was his move to Golden State, right? Like they had just won 73 games in a season, the greatest regular season of all time as far as winning percentage is concerned. And he went across to this team that was loaded, that we knew it was the start of a dynasty and got that ring in his. In his first year in Golden State, which a lot of people thought was sort of, you know, the easy way out. But also his comments about moving over there where he said that he would have never made the move to Golden State if they had won the championship in their 73 win season because, you know, they would have already started something. He wanted to, to, to join something before it's really popped off where in reality, if you're joining a team that won 73 games the year before, regardless of whether they won the NBA Finals or not. That definitely can be seen as taking the easy way out.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, I think it was a. He did certainly the. If you can't beat him, join him. And I get it. I get the criticism for that. I just feel like everybody's always like, he's so online. It's like, yeah, okay. And so are you. So what's the. That should be the most relatable thing.
Isabella
We need chronically online representation in the NBA.
Katie Nolan
Yes. Thank you. Isabella gets it. I knew she would. And that's why she. She's my pick for coach of the New York.
Brady
So what do we. What do we. What do we push for here? Gay power couple and chronically online NBAers.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Isabella
Yeah.
Brady
This is a better world.
Katie Nolan
Use the Internet the way we use the Internet. The way we got into this though, is that this trade was announced. It broke while Kevin Durant was on stage with Taylor Rook. Shout out Taylor Rooks. We love her. At Fanatics Festival. So conspiracy theory is that this fest that again is basically brand new, but is being told to me, like, it's something we've all been every year we look forward to on the calendar, that they engineered this so that this trade would be announced at the fest on the stage. Everybody subscribing to this.
Brady
Yeah. 100.
Katie Nolan
This theory.
Brady
What are the odds?
Isabella
Yeah.
Brady
Of all the timing. It just so happens that Kevin Durant's on stage at Fanatic Fest and we get this viral moment where he learns about it in real time while on stage at this massive corporate function.
Katie Nolan
Am I being like a bummer? Is it. Is Fanatics Fest actually awesome for fans? Is it. Was it cheap to go to. How much does it cost?
Brady
I want to say a three day pass is 160 bucks.
Katie Nolan
That's kind of a lot for no sports happening.
Brady
You know, athletes not doing sports. But that said, it was packed. So for us to say like no one was having a good time would be absurd.
Katie Nolan
And I didn't say no one was having a good time.
Brady
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
I said I don't get it. And I wouldn't go. But everybody went. Like, I. Their ability to get everybody in that room made me feel it made it feel expensive. Like there's no way down to the Rizzler. There's no way. God damn. Is the rest of that family that the Rizzler got famous with? I know they're not his family, but are they now not doing it anymore? He's the Only one with staying power. I feel like the Rizzler is everywhere, but I'm not seeing Big, big Justice. Is that what his name was?
Brady
I have no idea, child. And he. Beyonce Justice.
Katie Nolan
Well, no, because again, he's not. I. He was. Maybe. I don't know, it felt like an out of left field reference for you, Brady, but maybe. I don't know if you were like a big Michelle and Kelly fan, but the Rizzler, I just. You're. Go home. Eat a salad. What is happening with you? You're too young to breathe like a. Like a pug. Come on. Come on, buddy. Rizzle it up. Speaking of Rizzlers, Livy Dunn was there. She broke the World cup trophy, one.
Brady
Of the many World cup trophies. She was there. And. And with the Fanatics games, they had all of these athletes doing like different events, kind of, you know, different sports. And she's firing a soccer ball into tiny pop up nets and just.
Isabella
Oh my God, she looks so scared.
Brady
Wide.
Isabella
No, like once she looks.
Katie Nolan
She broke it.
Brady
Yeah.
Isabella
Like when she looks at the trophy, she's like.
Katie Nolan
That's such a relatable feeling. You know when you're like in your. When you were younger and you do something and like something breaks.
Isabella
Oh my God.
Katie Nolan
Your brain goes like. Can I go back to five seconds ago before that happened? Can we just rewind time to before I made this huge mistake or like.
Isabella
You lose the thing that like your mom told you not to lose. Like, I'm letting you have this necklace now.
Katie Nolan
Don't lose it.
Isabella
And you lose it and you're like.
Katie Nolan
I can't go home. I live on the streets now. I live on the streets. Terrifying. But.
Brady
So I went down a rabbit hole this morning on Fanatics Fest content.
Katie Nolan
Okay, what'd you get?
Brady
So it started out with the headline was that Washington Commander's owner Josh Harris purchased the Jaden Daniels one of one rookie card, like the big collector's item for a half million dollars from whoever owned it at Fanatics Fest and was going to display it at Commander's Northwest Stadium. Northwest Stadium, which is obviously to the east of Washington D.C. but this was the story that Josh Harris made a big deal. Him and Jaden Daniels on stage bought this card. The more I read into it, the more questions I had. And then started asking more questions and was worried that, like, there are not enough people asking these questions.
Katie Nolan
Oh, let's do it.
Brady
So the card was the Panini Prism. Jaden Daniels Black finite one of one.
Katie Nolan
We knew that. Of course. I love a Panini Prism.
Brady
I. I thought about figuring out what made this card so special, but there's only one of it. And it's. It's kind of like the Paul Skeens one that had the patch on it that sold for $1.1 million.
Katie Nolan
And it's pressed between two pieces of bread.
Brady
Yeah. Making me a little layer of ham salad on it.
Katie Nolan
And it's just perfect.
Brady
The card was originally acquired for $36.
Katie Nolan
What?
Brady
By a man by the handle of Dr. Moist Muffins.
Katie Nolan
What?
Brady
This is the beginning of the transaction. Dr. Moist Muffins acquires this card for $36 because someone is opening a box of cards and he purchased the rights to every commander's card in that box and got lucky enough that the Jaden Daniels carbs in there a real storage situation in most accounts of this. This is where no one asked questions about Dr. Moist muffins. Beyond.
Katie Nolan
What question could you ask?
Brady
Dr. Moist muffins is an actual doctor.
Isabella
Okay.
Brady
Dr. Moist muffins.
Chris
We can't go by Dr. Legally without it. So he would be Mr. Moist muffins.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Brady
This man in the card collecting community goes by Dr. Moist Muffins is an actual doctor, Dr. Ohash Raval, a family physician in Des Moines, Iowa with a 4.3 star rating on Google.
Isabella
Okay.
Katie Nolan
As a doctor. He's got a 4.3 rating as a doctor. Right. Not as a card.
Brady
Not as a card collector. This is as his just doctor prep doctor profession. There was no any explanation. I had to go digging to the for the explanation. This comes courtesy of Larry Holder of the Athletic, who wrote the piece. And we shared some words this morning. The name is as simple as the fact that someone there was an original doctor Moist Muffins. He is not number one, doctor Moist Muffins.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Brady
Doctor Moist Muffins was a Call of Duty player who repeatedly, systematically would kill Dr. Ohash Raval in Call of Duty to the point that he threatened the man with I'm going to rob that guy's name someday. And so for his card counting account, he stole the name Dr. Moist Muffins from this Call of Duty player and now has achieved fame as the card pulling card selling Dr. Moist Muffins who now has lost the SEO that if you were trying to Google this man's family physicians practice, you're going to get the words Dr. Moist Muffins coming up. And I feel like there needs to be.
Katie Nolan
That can't do.
Brady
No one wants this.
Katie Nolan
Yeah. That can't do good things for your star rating on Google. If they If I Google, well, how's this guy do. And that first thing that comes up is that he goes by Dr. Moist Muffins. I mean, look, as far as words that moist can come before or that moist. Yeah. Can proceed. Muffins. Is this as good as you can get? I think before it becomes moist Muffins.
Isabella
Are really good, right? I don't want a dry one.
Katie Nolan
Cookies, moist cake, moist muffins. You're still safe.
Brady
So this also gets more sinister. Tell me.
Katie Nolan
Oh, it does.
Brady
I feel like this gets more sinister. So Dr. Moist Muffins rejects an offer of $200,000. This is all from Larry Holder, so. Thank you, Larry. Dr. Moist Muffins rejects an offer of $200,000 from Serena Williams, husband for the Reddit.
Katie Nolan
He founded Reddit, didn't he? Reddit founders?
Brady
Instead, he sells it to a collector named Josh roth for about $350,000. Josh Roth, personally, like in his hand, takes this card to Fanatics Fest and is just walking around the floor on it. Eventually finds Michael Rubin, the CEO of Fanatics, and they set up a meeting. Yeah, this is like, I'm not walking around this convention center with a half million dollar card. Sets up a meeting where Jaden Daniels and Josh Harris are on stage in front of the Fanatics Fest crowd. And Josh Harris calls out Roth, who has a card in his hand, offers him in front of the live crowd $500,000 for this card. Calls on the crowd to, you know, be like, should he sell it? You gonna take this offer right now? Roth was asking for $2 million for this card. Now Jaden Daniels, I mean, Paul Skeens's card sold for $1.1 million. And Josh Harris, with the pressure of the live crowd in front of him, offers this man $500,000 for the card, and he accepts it on the spot. This feels dirty. Like, this is not fair to this guy to be putting him under the duress of trying to sell this card in front of a live crowd chanting for the transaction to occur.
Katie Nolan
This also feels like a setup. This. I don't know if I'm just weary of the world at this point, but everything about Fanatics Fest, I'm like, that's not a happenstance. That feels like they got. They made that happen. Why would they? How would they. This is a. I don't like it.
Brady
What is the most dubious part of the story? What do you. What are you doubting about this one?
Katie Nolan
I don't like that they. Well, that they brought the guy, brings the card in person to a Fest. I don't know. That seems like a weird. That feels like your mom being like, don't lose this necklace. Yeah. Just brought a card and then to get them on stage. And the guy wanted. Harris wanted this card. Right. That had been stated. And then now they. He has it in person with him while he's with Daniels was there yesterday.
Brady
Daniels is there on stage, and so they.
Katie Nolan
And then he gets the. That seems. Why.
Isabella
Where did he come from?
Brady
Everyone was there. Like, just everyone happened to be there. The Jaden Daniels showed up for his own signings and panels.
Katie Nolan
Whatever. I don't know. It just feels like, wow, what a coincidence. Wow, what a coincidence. Wow, what a coincidence. You know, that's what that whole event feels like to me. Wow. Good thing the cameras were there. John Cena punched a punching machine. Wow, what a coincidence.
Brady
And Dr. Moist Muffins didn't even get the invite.
Katie Nolan
And I would. And do you want a doctor that plays Call of Duty? I think maybe yes.
Brady
I mean, I think this, like, who hasn't played Call of Duty at, like, this age? Like, what? I feel like Call of Duty has been around for so much. I'm worried about a doctor who has never played.
Katie Nolan
What's your kd?
Brady
Very poor. Very poor.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Isabella
Kevin Durant.
Chris
Whoa.
Katie Nolan
That's my coach. That's my coach.
Isabella
Let's see. I'm just so basketball focused, guys.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, it's in your blood.
Chris
You live.
Katie Nolan
Hey, speaking of which.
Chris
Just like Tibs.
Katie Nolan
Speaking of basketball. Focus the Bus family soldier. The majority stake in the Lakers. We recorded our Thursday podcast on Wednesday last week, and I believe this news broke, like, Thursday morning. And it was the first thing that we were like, oh, well, that's not gonna make it into the podcast. The Buss family is preparing to sell its majority stake in the Los Angeles Lakers to Mark Walter, owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, for a reported $10 billion. The Lakers have been owned by the Buss family since 1979, when Jerry Buss purchased the franchise from Jack Kent Cook for a. What was it? $67.5 million price tag. Also included the Los Angeles Kings and the Forum. Bus family will keep. Yeah, right. You can have the house. The Buss family is going to keep a minority share of the team just over 15% for a period of time. In addition, Jeannie Buss will remain the Lakers governor and continue to run the team for, quote, at least a number of years. Walter, the CEO and chairman of diversified holding company TWG Global. Get this shit out of my sports. We're a diversified holding company called DWG Global, and we make all the decisions on your favorite teams. Has been a stakeholder in the Lakers since 2021, when he purchased a share for 26%. Right. Walter and TWG Global have interests in multiple professional sports organizations, including the Dodgers, the Los Angeles Sparks, Premier League Club Chelsea, and the Professional Women's Hockey League. And through TWG Motorsports, Walter owns several auto racing teams, including Cadillac Formula. I got a hot take. I know no one's going to like, and I also know it's not enforceable and I know nobody cares. But here's the thing. I have my own podcast. And what's the point of having your own podcast if you can't just say shit? You think I don't think you should be allowed to own other teams if you own a team. And I used to say within the same league and now I'm like at all in general because it's just. It introduces when billionaires at a time when billionaires are being so nefarious with their money and they don't like to tell us what they're doing with it, and they like to move it around and turn it into more money without actually doing anything helpful or productive with it. They just like money to beget more money. I just don't think we live in a time where I'm comfortable trusting billionaires and that the decisions they're making with my team to save money are not just so they can then take that money and use it on a different team. I just. I'm not billionaire. Trust is very low right now. I think that's fair for me to say. I'm sorry if you're a billionaire who listens to this podcast and you feel like I. I'm not trying to Luigi you right now, metaphorically, but what I'm saying is we don't trust y' all. So I don't think you should be allowed to just continue. Stop treating sports purely like businesses. And what's crazy is that there's going to be fans who are like, sports are a business. You're a dumb lady who doesn't understand. And that's not. It's maybe partially true. Okay. But I don't think sports are better when they're treated like businesses. I feel like it wouldn't kill us to treat them like sports or to own one business. You can still treat it and run it like a business, but I do not want your business to have other sports in them. I just don't think that it should be allowed. And so that's what I will be running on. That is the platform I'll be running on. If you own a sports team, that's the only sports team you own. You better hope they win a championship.
Chris
One vote for Katie Nolan with whatever seat you're running for. Not sure.
Katie Nolan
I'm not sure yet either. But I'll find one and I'm going to sit in it.
Chris
Yeah, you got one vote at least.
Katie Nolan
Thank you. I see Brady's not voting, so that's interesting.
Chris
Billionaire calls himself an ally.
Katie Nolan
Billionaire sympathizer.
Chris
Yep.
Katie Nolan
Billionaire sympathizer. He just wants to cozy up to cash. Typical Brady. Did you see Simmons, Bill Simmons try bending over backwards to try to do the math to make it so that actually it was. It's not that the lakers are worth $10 billion that it's actually if you do the math and correct for all the different percentages and whatever, that it ends up having the same valuation as.
Chris
The Celtics I love at 6.1. Was it the Celtics?
Katie Nolan
Something like that? Yes.
Brady
Your franchise is value is higher than another franchise's value.
Katie Nolan
That's what I'm saying.
Brady
Meaningless point of fanhood.
Katie Nolan
That's what I'm saying. I'm like, I do not care. I don't hear this story and go, well, hold on. No, I actually think that the. That the Celtics are worth more. I hear this and I go, great. $10 billion. A number I'll never fathom in my life. The Lakers are no longer like it. It leaving the hands of Jeanie Buss, which it's not even really doing technically for a number of years is the story to me. I don't care about the valuation of the. I just don't. I don't know. Sorry. Money's boring.
Brady
It's like when the. When the Dodgers sold and there was the big fight with the McCourts over. Over the franchise's value being tied up in like the parking lot across the street.
Katie Nolan
The McCourts. That's where they booked the Hamburglar in the McCourt Put him away for life. LSU, you kind of already spoke. Oh, Brady loves that. I'll zoom in on Brady loves that.
Chris
What's a good one?
Katie Nolan
That's the most I think I've ever made laugh. Heather is a nurse practitioner from UnitedHealthcare. We meet patients wherever they live. During a house call, she found Jack had an issue.
Brady
Jack's blood pressure was dangerously high.
Katie Nolan
It was 217 over 110. So they got Jack to the hospital and got him the help he needed. He had had a stent placed in.

They beat Coastal Carolina 53 in Game 2. Coastal Carolina coach Kevin Schnall. Just a great name. Love a Schnall was tossed from the game along with first base coach Matt Schilling in the first inning. First inning for something completely unreasonable is all that it says in the doc. So I guess now we have to go to Brady to explain the completely unreasonable situation in which the Coastal Carolina coach and first base coach were tossed.
Brady
Put up three fingers and said, you missed three calls. That's. No, he actually did the German. I was like, it was the.
Katie Nolan
Oh, sorry. It was the. So it was pinky. It's important for the listener.
Brady
He did the Inglorious. Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Yes. Tinky ring.
Brady
Middle Yeah, I mean, so there were. There was some chirping back and forth going back to a call, even in the first half of the inning. But, you know, they. The.
Katie Nolan
He.
Brady
He got the warning from the ump where he was on the top step, responded with what? You've missed three calls already this game. Put up the three fingers, and the ump threw him out of the championship game. Like, the game. There has to be a different allowance for not having this. Not letting the ump throw out the manager. Like.
Katie Nolan
And you're sure he didn't say any of the magic. Anything else? He didn't say, like, read between the lines when he held up three. He didn't say any sort of.
Brady
Even if he did.
Katie Nolan
Don't throw that.
Brady
It's a championship game.
Katie Nolan
First inning. To have missed three calls already, it's kind of crazy. It's a rough umps are having a tough go. I just feel like they're. They're mad because I think they're going to get replaced by robots.
Brady
Aren't we all?
Katie Nolan
Which if that's not relatable, you know, I feel like we're all training AI, learning models to take our jobs. So that's. Can't we relate still? No, I still. I'm trying to find sympathy in my heart for an ump. I still can't. I just. They are. They exist to be yelled at. They are Rodeo part of the gig. It is.
Chris
It's always been part of the game.
Katie Nolan
Part of the gig. But to toss in the World Series, that's crazy. It shouldn't be allowed.
Brady
Coastal Carolina had won 26 straight games leading into the final 26 straight. And then they dropped the last two. I mean, it's still an incredible run for Coastal Carolina making it to the. The final two.
Katie Nolan
The Chanticleers. The chant, by the way, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. That is a rooster. A French rooster, I think.
Brady
I think Isabella.
Isabella
Yeah, maybe. And they eat eclairs. I don't know. I tried to.
Katie Nolan
And they chant. And they chant while they do it.
Isabella
Uhhuh.
Katie Nolan
A big Travelers championship this weekend. It was nice to have to get to say that to my dad last night when he was. When we turned off the Red Sox game because it was literal torture. And he was flipping through the channels and he clearly found a replay of the Travelers. It was fun to get to go, did you watch this today? And he was like, no. And I said, pretty dramatic ending. And then he stayed up all night and watched a replay of the Travelers championship because there was a very dramatic ending the 13th ranked golfer in the world, Englishman Tommy fleetwood, is now 0 for 84 in PGA Tour tournaments after blowing a lead on the 18th hole of the Travelers Championship in Connecticut, giving a giving way to a win by American Keegan Bradley. Brady, you told us this yesterday in a way that was easy to follow and fascinating. Would you mind doing that again for the listener?
Brady
So Tommy Fleetwood is pretty much the best golfer to have not won on the PGA Tour. He's in the top 10 all the time, just can't get it done. He wins on the European Tour, can't win in the US he's leading most of the weekend, has a rough stretch in the front, kind of gets it together, and he goes into the 18th hole, final hole, entire. Every attendee of this event is now crowded around the 18th hole. So it's all eyes on him. One shot, lead over Keegan Bradley. Tees off straight down the center. He's basically just gotta, you know, gotta, gotta get a four on this. If he pars it, that's the best. The worst that can happen is he goes to a playoff straight down the middle, great tee shot, lines it up with the second shot, and the very last second, switches his club like the caddy has told him. Give this a nine iron onto the middle of the green, and he switches the last moment, goes down a club to a pitching wedge, which is a rarity. Like you, you have your information, you know how far you have to hit it. You know how far you hit your pitching wedge. Lines it up with the pitching wedge, leaves it 50ft short, like, just off the edge of the green. And from there his, his shot off the edge of the green, short, leaves at six feet short, and then misses the six footer and in front of the world, ends up bogeying this final hole. Whereas Keegan Bradley goes approach, five feet away, sinks his putt, and birdies to win it. Like, Tommy Fleetwood had the lead right there until he doubted himself, took the wrong club and blew it.
Katie Nolan
Yikes. That just feels like classic overthinking. If that's not relatable, where you go like, no, I, I think I, I think I know better. And I got to listen to this instinct. And then later you go, I should never listen to my instinct ever again. I had the club, I changed it for no reason. And then just a meltdown. Oh, I feel so bad. This is the part of sports that, like, is. It's tough to watch.
Brady
Keegan Bradley, also the Ryder cup captain for the United States, is in charge of picking the Ryder cup team. With this win, he now played himself into the end of the rankings where he can justifiably pick himself, which is nice.
Chris
He's not an automatic.
Katie Nolan
You played yourself.
Chris
He's not an automatic selection into the Ryder cup team as the captain.
Brady
No, he would have to pick himself. And he's now the 9th ranked player on the. For the Ryder cup team in the Ryder Cup.
Chris
How is he the captain then?
Brady
Gravitas.
Katie Nolan
Gravitas. That's. In golf. You can just have gravitas.
Brady
It's the captain of the team. It's not necessarily the best. The best player isn't the one. It's like the veteran American player who's going to pick this team and lead them.
Katie Nolan
But he'd lead them only if you were playing.
Chris
Yeah.
Brady
Otherwise he would just be hanging out and, you know, kind of coach. More of a coaching role.
Katie Nolan
This isn't making sense to us.
Isabella
Tommy Fleetwood sounds like a rock or like a.
Katie Nolan
That's probably because of Fleetwood Mac.
Isabella
I know. Because of Fleetwood Mac. But then there's also Tommy. Some.
Katie Nolan
A lot of them. There's a bunch of them. There's also a musical. Isn't Tommy the who? Yeah, yeah. That's a. Sorry question. No, that was good. That was really good stuff.
Isabella
That's my contribution that.
Katie Nolan
I. My fear was. Was it. I know we don't do gambling on this, but this is. This is like a question about gambling. Was it. If you had picked Tommy Fleetwood to win the whole thing and put a bunch of money on that was. Were his odds, like, would you have made a lot of money or was he like the favorite to win?
Brady
No.
Katie Nolan
And therefore you wouldn't have before the.
Brady
Tournament without looking at it. He would have been like 20 to 1 if you bet on him before the tournament.
Katie Nolan
So you bet. I. So I bet there's people who are. So. Are really mad at him.
Brady
Yeah.
Isabella
This is why you shouldn't be betting.
Katie Nolan
I agree. It just these situations always scare me now because the first thing I think.
Isabella
Is like, Raisinets or something.
Katie Nolan
Thing.
Isabella
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
What?
Isabella
Not real money. Just bet on, like candy or something.
Brady
I thought the Rais.
Katie Nolan
Rais to bet.
Brady
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
I thought it was like, definitely what it sounded like. This Raisinet's going to go.
Chris
Sorry, bet how many Raisinets in the pack? Let's.
Katie Nolan
And then if you lose, you win. Then you win because you have to eat the Raisinets. You get a better candy instead.
Isabella
Oh, your anti Raisinets.
Brady
Is this our segue to Kelsey Plum, by the way?
Katie Nolan
Oh, yeah, yeah. Good point. We should talk about that story because this is what I think about now. Whenever there's like a big a loss like that or a big where originally the story would be like, wow, how does Tommy Fleetwood sleep that night? Knowing that he blew it in the face of the. And now it's like, well, not only that, but he's also probably getting screamed at by people who up until the last second thought they were about to get a big windfall of cash because their pick was about to win and he had it in the bag. And then as soon as he picked another club, they were probably like, this fucking guy. And I bet he's hearing about it. But the way this relates to Kelsey Plum, you ask, I'll tell you during a who were they playing? The links. So a link sparks game. Kayla McBride from the Lynx was shooting a free throw in the fourth quarter, and on the game broadcast you could hear a fan in the crowd shouting at Rekia Jackson, who's on the Sparks, that they needed something from her in order for their parlay to hit. Then Sparks forward Derek A. Hamby said shut up to the fan, which was also heard on the broadcast. And then you hear Kelsey Plum add to that by saying shut the up. Which I agree with the addition, the emphasis, she underlined it. And so basically they said like, they told this fan, like, shut up, shut up. Because it happened in the W. Of course, it was clipped, put online on X the Everything site, and a bunch of people have a lot of stuff to say about it, namely that she was wrong, that Kelsey Plumb is wrong for this, and that the WNBA has a real problem with how they treat their fans. I disagree with that. I think if you were to criticize this, I guess you could say if a fan is heckling you, you're not supposed to say anything back. But as I kind of made this argument with Kevin Durant online, I don't really subscribe to that. If it's embarrassing to yell about your parlay at a live basketball event, I would like us to make that normal for you to feel mortified to bring up your fucking parlay at a game, because I don't care. It's like yelling about your fantasy team. I don't care. I'm sorry that you need somebody to do something in order for you to get money. You're allowed to tell the people you're with, I guess, or tweet about it on X the Everything site. But I do not need you to yell at the actual players that you need something for their parlay because, buddy, they do not give a. They do not give a at all. And I could argue it's actually dangerous for you to want them to give a because that is not what's supposed to happen. We used to separate gambling and sports. We used to try to keep those things separate for the sake of something called integrity. I guess integrity is gone now and dead and nobody cares about it anymore. Perhaps it's cringe, but I just think that like getting on Chelsea Plum for being like, don't talk to me about your parlay in the middle of my work day. I'm fine with that. I don't think we need to criticize her for that. It still wouldn't make this okay, but that person's parlay better have been for like thousands of dollars. If you're yelling at a wnba star for five raisin nuts gaining $20 for five if you're going to get a box of Raisinets out of this, I can't. I just. It's like you should be embarrassed. If you're going to heckle about your parlay. You should have to reveal what one unit is in your gambling parlance. Because that's how guys talk about gambling with each other. I've learned this is they talk about it in units. Oh, I put 25 units on that. But you don't tell anybody. I guess maybe what your unit is so that everyone can have the same conversation. But there's a guy in the group of friends that I hang out with that talks about his gambling and his unit is like 25 cents. And so anytime he says anything, you're like, this doesn't. This doesn't matter. It's anyway, we're talking about gambling too much. The other thing that Kelsey Plum got quote unquote in trouble for on X the Everything site Thursday morning, Kelsey Plum was outside the team hotel in Minnesota when approached by men with open books of trading cards for her to sign. The three time WNBA all Star is a player whose autograph cards are valued by collectors in the resale market. She felt it was, quote, weird for men to be waiting outside of her hotel with books of things to sign and she called them out for it. Don't you? As she was signing, by the way, I believe she was signing it.
Brady
She signed one.
Katie Nolan
She said, don't you find it kind of weird like low key about him being at the Sparks Hotel before they were. She said I'm a little turned off right now, before saying she appreciated the fan and signing one card. Derek Hamby TWEETED more context and said, or X. What are we saying for when you post something on X?
Brady
I'm still saying tweeter same. If he's going to dead name his child, I'm going to dead name that man's motherfucking site.
Katie Nolan
Ally, we literally left for practice and changed hotels. So to be there the moment we got there after switching hotels without being like, hey, we're switching hotels was weird. Yeah, I think that's pretty. I do think that's weird. The video went viral. People took sides. Many came out against Plum and in favor of the autograph seekers. The man in the encounter, Nick Peterson. Mini Graphs 99 on tick tock captioned the video by saying, Kelsey Plum is not a fan of the wnba. Fans who like to collect her autographs get a life. Later claiming she, quote, went ballistic in a Facebook post. Dude, I am so sick of people being able to take an interaction, call it something it clearly was not, and have people go like, yeah, well, she went ballistic. You're like, no, she didn't. Just like, Riley Gaines. No, it wasn't a groveling apology issued to you by Simone Biles. It wasn't groveling in the leash. She barely apologized to you. But, no, she was groveling. They like, this is insane to me. She went ballistic. She basically said, you're a man, I'm a woman, and you're waiting for me outside of my hotel. Isn't that a little. You don't see how that could be a little? Kelsey Plum doesn't like fans. Well, exactly right?
Brady
In this guy's Facebook post, he says, it's not. It's not stalkering. It's not stalking. It's not stalking. I'm not a stalker because, quote, she's older than me.
Katie Nolan
What? Sorry. Wait.
Chris
Everyone knows people older than you.
Katie Nolan
Somebody check that guy's Internet history. I don't like the way that sounds full of teeth.
Brady
Yeah, yeah.
Katie Nolan
What are you talk. It's not stalking because she's older than you. These are rules. These are house rules. You made these rules up, so that means you've been here before, huh? Also, autographs. Talk to me about them. I don't know. I didn't go to Fanatics Festival. Are autographs still getting a lot on, like, secondary markets? Grown people asking for autographs?
Brady
So the point of the autograph is to be like, this object has had a physical connection with this athlete. I think that's never going to disappear. Especially as, like, we're so online. Like, we are all, like, every. Our connection to athletes and People is so digital that like, to have that proof that, like, this physically interacted with that athlete, I think that's always going to add value.
Katie Nolan
Here's my thing. If you don't like the person, I don't think you should be able to profit off of if they're, I assume they're going to sell these autographs because this guy, clearly Nick Peterson, who's claiming Kelsey Plum, is not a fan of WNBA fans who like to collect her autographs. Why would you like to collect her autographs? Unless you were a fan of hers and you don't seem like a fan of hers because you mischaracterized her actions towards you instead of going like, hey, as a man, I took a step back and reflected and realized that waiting for a woman outside of her hotel, I could see, even though I wasn't trying to make her feel uncomfortable, I see now how that could make her uncomfortable. And that really sucks. I'm a huge Kelsey Plum fan. So thank you for the autograph. And hey, male WNBA fans, maybe keep this in mind and just. That's all it takes. People would still go, you're not in the wrong. She's a dumb bitch. Because of course, that's what the Internet will say. But just to. What kind of a person wants the autograph of someone who, when they don't get just blanket praise, then turns and goes like, this bitch went ballistic? It's like you, but you, the one whose autograph you got, if you're a fan of hers, you're not being very friendly. And I just feel like that's something that we get away with a lot now is people will be like, calling themselves a fan. But then when the interaction doesn't go well, oh, he wouldn't take a picture with me. He's actually an asshole. And you're like, well, then you weren't a fan. And they were kind of right. I don't remember who it was that did this. Was it Robbie Williams? I feel like we might have talked about this like, a couple months ago, that they were like on a flight and trying to be low key and somebody came up and asked for a picture. And they basically said like, hey, if I give you a picture, then everybody's gonna wanna come up and take a picture. And I'm with my family and no one's kind of noticed that I'm here yet, so I can't give you a picture, but I can talk to you about something or something. And then that. Then they started worrying that, like, they were going to Say something. And that was going to snowball into everybody being mad. And basically, I believe this was Robbie Williams, but he basically said it wasn't who. You got a face, Brady. Like, you know who it was.
Brady
It's Jamar Chase.
Katie Nolan
No, this is a different. Oh, but it just recently happened with Jamar Chase. Yeah, but I think whoever this person was, that I could Google it. They basically made the point that, like, sometimes people just want to take a picture with you because they know you're famous. It's not because they're a fan, but the word they say to you is, like, I'm a fan. Can I get a photo? And, like, it's not necessarily a person who's watched or listened to or consumed any of the stuff you've made. They may not even like it. They just want the clout of I'm in a picture with this person. And there's. It's difficult to, like, cater to, as you don't want to turn a fan away, but at the same time, you're like, you're not really a fan. You're just somebody who wants my photo. And why am I indebted to you in this moment? Yeah, I think.
Isabella
And, you know, especially if, like, I would. If I was a fan, I would be more excited that they were like, I don't want to take a photo right now, but, like, let's have a conversation. Like, that's more exciting.
Chris
Oh, yeah.
Isabella
Right now.
Katie Nolan
But a non fan who was just in it for the photo to go, look who I met on my flight is then, like, this guy's a. Who doesn't appreciate his fans. If you're saying you don't appreciate the fans after one interaction with somebody you're a quote unquote fan of, you're not a fan. She doesn't appreciate weirdos, and neither do I. That's the second platform I'll be running on. Do I still have your votes?
Chris
Still got mine.
Katie Nolan
Yep. Thank you. And pretty much the only ones I had. Yeah, Brady, we know you didn't vote. It's ranked choice, and I'm not even second on yours, and I don't know how I feel about that. Okay, so fans, be better and stop being weird. All right, we are. We're running out of time. So since it's Tuesday, Chris has to tell us what to watch if we want to watch sports. Not because it's a down period. Who would say that it's. Sports are bumping right now. There's a lot of sports to watch. I don't Think anybody thinks this is a dark time in the sports calendar, but to prove that it isn't. Chris, what are we watching if we want to watch sports this week?
Chris
The NBA draft. Ever heard of it? Katie? Over two different nights, beginning Wednesday, 8pm Eastern on ESPN. This is going to be a big event. Cooper Flag will be the number one pick. Friend of the show, by the way, Marty Smith. He'll be with Cooper Flag's family at their watch party reporting from there. So that'll be good to. To see Marty on the coverage. But what I'm looking forward to this year. So last year, last year's draft featured a lot of international guys, featured a lot of guys from the G League in the lottery, which is the top 14 picks. Only eight of those 14 players came out of college. This year it's probably going to be around 13 or 14 players out of the top 14 coming from college. So if you're a college fan, you watch a lot of college basketball, most likely you're going to know all, if not most of the. The players in the lottery, which is cool. So I just wanted to go through a few names here. Maybe Isabella being the. The resident head basketball coach out of the four of us.
Isabella
Yep.
Chris
Fingers crossed. Nick's still got to call you up, but, you know, I want to get your thoughts on. On some of these guys. There are a few names that I've. That I've pointed out and. Well, I just want to get your thoughts and if you think the Knicks should try to make a move in getting them or if they can draft them. The first one is Dylan Harper. So we already know Cooper Flag going number one. That's locked in. Dylan Harper. This is a guard out of Rutgers. He is most likely going to go number two to the San Antonio Spurs. But Isabella, I want him. You want him. Do you know why? Specifically, I think you might want him.
Isabella
I like, I like that. Passing creativity is one of his pros. I like that.
Katie Nolan
Yeah.
Isabella
And he's out of Rutgers, so he's local to New York.
Chris
That's true. And do you know where his mother is from?
Isabella
No.
Chris
She is from the Philippines.
Katie Nolan
Let's go.
Isabella
Okay, so Match Made in Heaven. Fuck San Antonio.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, that's right.
Chris
So make some moves. We've got to get the Knicks to trade up somehow from pick 50. I think it is up to top two. Get Dylan Harper 50 to 10.
Katie Nolan
You can close that gap.
Chris
Yeah.
Katie Nolan
Offer him a couple Raisinets.
Isabella
Yeah.
Chris
So here's the first guy I wanted to touch on. Second guy, VJ Edgecumbe. Wing out of Baylor.
Isabella
I want him.
Katie Nolan
I'm sorry. Sorry. V.J. what now?
Chris
Edgecumbe.
Katie Nolan
Okay. And if we were spelling that, it.
Chris
Would be E, D, G, E, C, O, M, B.
Katie Nolan
Okay. Okay.
Isabella
That's how you say it?
Brady
Close to a championship many times.
Katie Nolan
Well, maybe it's. Maybe it's Chris's accent that's making it sound like you're saying edgecumbe. I don't know if that's how he likes it pronounced edgecumb, but let's hope it's edgecumbe.
Chris
That's how I'm saying it. I'm sticking to it. Isabelle, you want him on the Knicks?
Isabella
Yeah, I want him.
Katie Nolan
Well, you want a guy who can finish.
Isabella
I want him because he has unteachable defensive playmaking instincts.
Katie Nolan
And where'd you get that from?
Isabella
From my own mind.
Chris
Her brain.
Katie Nolan
Right.
Chris
What about Cedric Coward? This is a wing out of Washington State.
Isabella
Sounds like he's a little scared, so. I don't know.
Chris
He actually has a really cool story because he was playing Division 3 basketball a couple of years ago. He only got two Division 3 offers coming out of high school and sort of worked his way up the ranks. The only reason he got to division one in the first place is because the coach of Eastern Washington who went to a D3 school, played in a D3 school. He was watching a game that Cedric Coward was playing in, liked what he saw, ended up recruiting him to Eastern Washington and then moved from Eastern Washington to Washington State and then was going to transfer to Duke this off season. But he sort of shot up the. The draft boards and he's going to potentially be a lottery pick. So are you on board the Cedric Coward train or. Not really. Isabelle.
Katie Nolan
Not really.
Isabella
He's not really. He's not really like shining to me, you know?
Chris
Okay, two more real quick. Conquer nipple out of Duke.
Isabella
Oh, thoughts on conquer nipple. First of all, I don't know where to start. Con Knipple.
Katie Nolan
Yep.
Chris
I think that that sums it up right there.
Katie Nolan
That's. I think that's it. That's all we needed to know.
Isabella
What's a floor spacer? What does that mean?
Chris
Like a good three point shooter where you. If. If you're. If you've got the. The ball outside of the three. Well, you know.
Isabella
You know what I'm so tired of like where like the only pro someone has is that they are a three point shooter. I just like, you need more than that. So. Sorry, Knipple, I can't.
Katie Nolan
She's more of a boob. A butt guy?
Isabella
Yeah, more of an edge comb.
Chris
What about Brady's guy, Derek Queen?
Brady
Yes.
Chris
Yeah, we spoke about him on our, in one of our episodes during March Madness because he had that nice buzzer beater.
Katie Nolan
He's a killer.
Isabella
I love Queens.
Chris
So you love Dairy Queens as well?
Isabella
Yeah, I really do. Shout out the Reese's Blizzard. Love that. Can I, can I rank him? I'm going to put him at like, if I really like Harper and Edgecombe, I'm going to put him at three.
Chris
Okay, cool. And then a couple of late round flyers. If you decide to stick with pick 50 out of these three, let me know who you'd prefer. You can have Rocco Zakarski out of Australia. You can have Dink Pate, who's a guard who played in Mexico City last season or a guy that we've mentioned on the show before, Janai Broom.
Katie Nolan
I like Dink.
Isabella
I love him.
Katie Nolan
You gotta go with Dink Pate. And I would actually. I wished it was like Dink Pate.
Isabella
Pate. Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
Katie Nolan
Making a pate out of the Dink. I love that Dink paint.
Chris
All right, so now we, we've got a, you know, a bit of an idea as to what the Knicks are going to do now. I think we all got a pretty solid idea as to their.
Katie Nolan
Thank you for that insight, Isabella.
Isabella
You're so welcome. Just still waiting, by the way, on the email from.
Katie Nolan
Yeah, they should. They. I think again, I think they're going.
Isabella
I think everyone's on summer break right now.
Katie Nolan
So yeah, they're going to come around to the yeses after the 4th of July, I think.
Isabella
Okay.
Katie Nolan
Okay, Chris, what else can we watch if we didn't want to, let's say.
Chris
Watch the NBA draft US Stats Masters. It is going to be in New York city this weekend, June 27 and June 28. We've got eight of the best players from around the world playing against eight of the best players from North America, including the Dutch Dong. Our guy Jules Van Dongen, who didn't perform particularly well in the World Cup a couple of weeks ago, but he will be there. Our guy Luke Litla will be playing. Luke Humphrey is the world number one will be playing. By the way, Luke Litla, can we say, can we say.
Brady
Sure.
Chris
Will be on the show on Thursday.
Katie Nolan
We're gonna chat with him.
Chris
Yeah, we're gonna chat with a 19 year old about darts. It's gonna be awesome. And Riz, another couple of names who he will be playing in this tournament. Matt Campbell, the Ginger Ninja. Jim Long, whose nickname is the Gentleman. I like that one. And Stowe Bunce from the American Stowe Bunce, whose nickname is the Neon Nightmare. So got a few names to look out for there. You can catch that on the cock or ops. I believe it's also on ops. That'll be June 27th, 7:00pm Eastern, and June 28th at 7:30pm Eastern. So US darts masters, check it out. And the third one, Wimbledon, that starts on Monday, June 30th on ESPN. The draw will be confirmed on the 27th of June. So we still got a little bit of time to determine the seeding and all that sort of stuff, but those are three pretty huge events. One of the biggest weeks in sports.
Katie Nolan
