That's where I find all my insecurities. Let's update on some stories. Stories that we've been keeping our finger on the pulse of Magic City Night. The Hawks, the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball association had announced Magic City Night, the night that they were playing the Magic. Then we said that Luke Cornett, a man whose name I now pronounce as Luke Cornell, because this is the corniest thing on earth, came out and said that it wasn't for him. And I get it, he's a religious guy. He thinks that strippers are the devil. Question mark, something like that. I'm sure there's a book he could cite that it says you're not allowed to take your clothes off for money. And so he was like, this isn't cool for women. And I was like, if we're doing stuff that's not cool for women, we've got a list of stuff that could go before this. And he said, hush, bitch. No, he didn't say that, basically. And now the. And now the NBA has. They've canceled it. They stepped in and they said, you guys aren't having Magic City Night. Although technically it's kind of a half step. Right? Because they're canceling it. But the game is still happening. The TI Is still performing at halftime. The wings are still being served. And if you ordered, if you pre ordered the merch, they will make good on it and get it to you. So basically the sweatshirts are no longer being given out at the game. And that's kind of the lasting legacy of Luke Cornet's blog spot. So great, I guess, and congrats. But how are we all feeling about this?

[Brady]

I mean, really. So it's just like the sweatshirts aren't being given out. I feel like the most important thing was the wings. The wings are still happening. People still know why the wings are there.

[Katie Nolan]

Right? So coming out of nowhere, I get it. I guess there are people who, to me, I'm just like, it's not. Strip clubs aren't illegal. Why are we acting like they're illegal? Why are we acting like the, like NBA culture. Even you don't even have to be fully NBA culture, Atlanta Hawks culture and strip clubs. Why are we acting like those two didn't know about each other until this promo was ran? Like, why are we. Why do we have to do that? Why can't we just go? Like, hello, Obvious connection. The world is ending. Let's have a strip club night at the basketball game.

[Brady]

Strip clubs are legal everywhere. DraftKings is not legal everywhere. And we have plenty of DraftKings promos.

Isn't that interesting. But the kids, you know, so many. But the children. How am I going to explain a strip club to my kid?

What's a bigger danger to kids? Sports gambling. As easily accessible as it is on

their phones where they're playing all their games.

Or strippers that you have to physically go to, which are much harder to

access at this point. If your kid is at a strip club, good for them. They found a third space. There's not. We don't have an abundance of them. Your kid's getting out and socializing in the real world. Learning about money in exchange for goods and services. There's a lot of good to be made in a strip club. This just feels so out of touch with where we're at. As though I'm like, can't we have a little thing? Can we have our little thing? The women weren't even invited. The women weren't even invited. I wish somebody would invite all of the women and seat them courtside for this game that is now no longer Magic City Night. And just the entire courtside is just all of the hard working women of Magic City Wing Restaurant. I would really like that. Another update. We have Dak Prescott. We told you that they called off their engagement shortly after and or during a joint bachelor bachelorette party that was in. Was it the Dominican Republic? Where were they?

[Brady]

Bahamas.

[Katie Nolan]

Bahamas is correct. And so there was a. We had said that we thought it was being reported as prenup arguments. Prenup disagreements. Now take all this with whatever grain of salt you feel like. But his ex fiance Sarah Jane Ramos is now responding to those rumors. An Instagram reel from the Speakeasy talk show account. Your guess is as good as mine. Featured co hosts. Oh, Emmanuel Acho and Lashawn McCoy. I know those names. Speak easy is the less is the more relaxed version of Speak for yourself. Is that what that is?

Is that what I'm stumbling upon here? Got it. I don't know if this hurts my feelings more than AI calling coward or less, but whatever. Talking about the breakup and rumored Financial arrangements. Ramos responded in the comment section. Girl put out a statement saying this had nothing to do with a prenup. I hope we can put that rumor to rest now. But. But you. Because you said so. I would hope, I guess, but, like, girl, call him up and go, like, hey, I can tell you what it was actually about that would help us put it to rest, I think. I know it's your business.

[Brady]

You know, it's much less at rest now that you tell me the one thing that it wasn't.

We would have moved on if it was, but I guess the prenup of it all would make her look money hungry.

So she's probably trying to combat the. I thought I saw someone say, she said that it wasn't true and that she comes from money. And I was like, well, I don't know if I would use that as my defense. I don't know if I would use that as my defense. You don't have to come from money to not be out for his. You know what I mean? But. So I guess we'll just stay tuned for the next episode and maybe somebody. Maybe Dak will hop in the comments and let us know that he's just been sleeping around. I don't know.

It sounds an incredible forum because, like, no one is a bigger Dak Prescott hater than LaShawn McCoy.

Like, just his whole life, that's the corner he has stood on, is that Dak Prescott is ass. And that's a direct quote of his. So, I mean, think about the venue she's choosing here.

Great couple games in that tournament. They had a buzzer beater in a game earlier in that tournament, I think the night before. What a. I'm like, I took out my old Hofstra merch, and I'll just say where I'm at with my skin tone and the season. That yellow was not looking right on me. So, like, I try. I got the wrinkles out of the tee, and I put it on, and then I went, I don't think we can wear this color. It's not really. I need to go get swatched or draped, whatever they call It, Isabella, where they put all the different colors on you to tell you, like, you're a cool winter. Whatever that Hofstra yellow falls in. I am not that. And so it looked bad. Got to go figure out. Here's the thing. I was poor in college, so I didn't buy any nice merch. So I really only have, like, that and stuff that says dance works on it. Nobody knows what that is.

[Brady]

So were you Dutchman era or had they changed the name?

[Katie Nolan]

It was right when they changed it. Ah, yeah. So they were the Flying Dutchman, which is a ship, I believe. Was it a pirates ship?

[Brady]

Sounds right.

[Katie Nolan]

It might have been. And then it was deemed offensive and they became the Pride, which is a bunch of lions. So it is the. And their names are Kate and Willie, the two that we worship at the feet of Kate and Willie, the two lions. So anyway, go Hofster Pride. I've now become an expert on the team. I could tell you all about them. I could tell you they're in the Coastal Athletic Association. That's. They won that tournament. That's definitely something I knew heading into this day. This was the first time that they. Well, they qualified for the tournament in 2020. And then what happened? It didn't happen, Isabella. If you had been there for that, that was crazy. That was when we knew. That was how, like, a lot of the world processed that. Like, oh, things are act. Things are happening. Society's shutting down. I remember being in the grocery store for the first time in a while going, I gotta buy these because I. Restaurants may not be open soon and getting the push notification that March Madness wasn't gonna happen. And I was like, what? Oh, yeah, that's right. It's pretty wild. And so that was the last time. Go ahead.

[Brady]

The day after, we had all, like, Rudy Gobert did his conference. He went around and touched everybody's mics. Like, ooh, they're telling me not to touch things. They're telling me to quarantine. This must be bad. Then the next day, we were like, oh, fuck, this is bad.

[Katie Nolan]

I was at Dan's apartment in Queens. I was watching the basketball. I watched that moment then. Didn't they, like, call a game that night? Yeah, and I text. Dan was out doing spots. I was waiting for him to come back, and I texted him and I was like, dude, they're canceling basketball games. Like, I think this might be a thing. And then, like, whoosh. It all was immediately a thing. Anyway, all that was to say that Hoffs, the last time I got Excited about Hofstra basketball. It was ripped away from me. And so this is very exciting. This is their fifth attorney. Fifth tournament appearance. They've gone. Okay. We don't have to say how it's gone in the previous times, right?

[Isabella]

No. The spin here is that this could be the opportunity this year, could be the first time that the Pride have ever won an NCAA men's tournament basketball game.

[Katie Nolan]

I know. It sure could be.

[Isabella]

That's what we got to get excited for. Cinderella run for Hofstra.

[Katie Nolan]

That's right. And they are projected to be. ESPN has them currently projected as a 13 seed, which means they would match up against a 4.

Yeah, 4.

That's not the one that's popular for upsets, right.

5 and 12 is a really popular one. That's sort of the biggest one.

This is only one away from that. Okay.

Hey, there's been plenty of popular. Plenty of upsets with the 13 seed, so it's definitely not out of the realms of possibility.

A question I'm going to get to the bottom of on fan service. I asked it today, but there was a lot of big news, so we didn't talk about this at all. How far are you obligated to take your school in your bracket?

Yeah. You think that feels right? You got to take them at least that far, because otherwise, if they make it and you didn't take them, you're gonna feel like a real dipshit. But you can't. You also can't have them go all the way.

[Isabella]

Yeah, they're not gonna win the national championship.

[Katie Nolan]

But unless you rapid 16, unless your team is Arizona, like, Dan went to Arizona. And so a couple of years, I've taken Arizona a lot further than I should because I know that it would make him really happy. But my Hofstra is not Arizona, but they've got guys. The fun thing, Isabella, is that Speedy Claxton was on the team for Hofstra from 96 to 2000. And then in his senior season, he took them to their first NCAA tournament berth in 23 seasons. And then he now is the coach of this team, and this team is back in the tournament. Isn't that sick?

I like that he still leads the program in assists and steals.

He was really emotional after that.

College basketball. Yeah, we love it. Let me Tell you about some of the people on Hofstra, so you can root for them. Okay. They got Cruz Davis. Cruz Davis is a junior CAA Player of the Year. All CAA first team. That's just sounds like sports broadcasting. They're all CAA first team. He leads the team and the conference in points per game with 20.2. And he was named CAA Scholar Athlete of the Year because He's got a 3.64 GPA. We love that. We love a guy who passed to class. That's right. Absolutely. Also, Preston Edmead, who's a freshman CAA Rookie of the Year, also named the CAA Tournament's Most Outstanding player. Had seven CAA Rookie of the Week nods, becoming just the third CAA freshman in league history to do that. Ninth in the league's overall scoring with 15.4 points per game. And he played high school ball in Massachusetts in East Hampton. Exciting, right?

How rare is an undefeated regular season in men's college basketball?

Okay, so here's some historical context of undefeated teams since the 1985 season and the statistical improbability of them actually doing it. So they're the eighth team since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985 to finish the regular season undefeated. Six of the first seven were one seats. They're the third Division 1 team in history to enter a conference tournament. 310 joining the 2013-14 Wichita State Shockers and the 2014-15 Kentucky Wildcats. According to ESPN research and college basketball statistician Evan Miyakawa called it a 1 in 3740 chance from the beginning of the season for Miami Ohio to go undefeated.

[Katie Nolan]

Okay, so nobody thought they were going to do it. They did it. And that means, I would assume, Brady, that they're in the tournament.

[Brady]

Little debate about that. The strength of their schedule is not good. It's, it's their best win is against the 62nd best team in the country. And that's Akron. Some people are saying they need to win their conference tournament, which gets underway on Friday, Friday about midday. They're playing UMass, the Mac tournaments. Some of those people, when you say some, I mean it was Bruce Pearl was leading the charge. Bruce, the former Auburn coach, he said if we're selecting the 68 best teams, then Miami is going to have to win their tournament to qualify as a champion because as an at large they are not one of the best teams in the country. End quote.

[Katie Nolan]

Okay. But also to be fair, Bruce Pearl didn't he the other day on tv call Caitlin Clark, Caitlin Smith.

[Brady]

It's not a good look, right?

[Katie Nolan]

So mistakes, he's made mistakes before.

[Brady]

I mean, and the schedule is really not their fault. They won 25 games last year and they brought back six of their nine best players. And their assistant coach said that that caused a lot of problems in them scheduling good teams. Jonathan Holmes told Yahoo. Sports he said, I was told no by probably 75 to 90 teams, from obviously all your power conferences to your Atlantic 10s to your mountain Wests, basically they were teams looked at them as being too good and too risky to play because they're a small program but one that would be very capable of beating a good team and putting a bad less loss on the record.

Yeah, this stinks. This is why strength of schedule. Obviously part of the reason I hate it is because it was used against the Patriots all season. But I also hate these conversations because it's like they, they're. It ignores the factors that go into them making the schedule. If people don't want to play them, then this is how. This is the schedule they put together. And if there was an issue with this schedul, that would mean that going completely undefeated wasn't a cool, good and rewarded thing, then you should have said that before you let me play this schedule. So I think that's silly. I'm proud of these guys. I'm proud of Ian Elmer. I'm proud of the Miami of Ohio Redhawks. No matter how confusing I find the name of their school, they always yell at me that they had it first anyway. So for that reason, I'll give it to them. The MMA guys try to distance themselves sometimes from other sports. They try to be like, what do you just hit a ball with a stick? I'm like, what do you just hit a man in the face? Like, I don't actually think combat is that much. Yeah, exactly. Like you're doing it for sport. You know what I mean? Like, no, it's the ultimate form of what?

Of what sport? Yeah, so he thinks that there's nothing more embarrassing than having any interest, no matter how remote. He said, even you casuals?

There's always a percentage of it. That's true. Or you wouldn't have even gotten there. But it's never 100% because it's people figuring out what works and just leaning into it and making no effort to evolve as human beings.

I know, but I feel like that's everything now. Everything's set up to be like, well, what are the numbers? Chase the number. Yeah. I'm like, yeah, but if you're chasing the numbers, you're not actually doing any of the work, right? Yes. Work Supposed to be the making the thing better and making the thing. I don't know.

You have to have a divide, I think, where it's like, care about what you're making. Because the making is the fun part, by the way, because once you release it, it's reacting to comments, seeing the numbers, all the stuff that we're talking about. But, like, the making it is the cool thing you got to do. You got to create a piece of art, or in his case, a tweet. But you may. But you make something. And then for me, I just feel like I have to have a divide between, like, the making of it has to come from what I'm interested in. And then the promoting of it is a whole different game.

Yeah, it has to be.

It's a whole different game.

Yeah, you have to do different. But this is all promotion. This is all.

That's the thing. It's all promotion, the whole thing.

And then I go. And then people go, you talked about it. So you're part of the problem and, like, my literal job is to talk about the stuff that's happening. And this is somebody that a lot of people like. A lot of men like incorrectly, in my opinion. But it's my opinion. A popular thought leader said, it's embarrassing. Nothing is more. Pooping your pants. Nothing is more embarrassing than liking sports. Even a little pooping your pants. Yeah, immediately. There goes your argument.

Probably, you know, depending on the scenario. Like, if you're an astronaut, you just had to, you know, then it's kind of cool. You know what I mean? Like, astronauts be shitting their pants. Like, then it's all. But that's the point. There's no room for nuance when these men talk.

I'm now seeing them say it's an $88 million deal that could be worth up to $100 million dollars.

Like, one exit up from the border, and guys would come over the border to play. So the umpires were conducting the game in Spanish, and it was just a different game. Boy, did that take backfire immediately. Yesterday, before the United States played Italy. So the United States was undefeated 3. 0 coming into this game. In pool play, they'd beaten everybody. Italy's 2 0. Something about this schedule in all the cities, Italy had only played two games. We were their third game. For some reason, it feels as though they thought we had everything locked up. Mark Derosa, the team, the manager of the team, went on MLB Network on the show Hot Stove and did an interview and he said this.

After the game after the United States lost, after it became clear that Italy putting up eight on us was going to be a problem when it comes down to the tiebreaker and therefore someone's going to have to put up a lot of runs on them. And clearly it wasn't going to be the United States after the game in which our manager started a bunch of guys that should not have started, that shouldn't just to get them some playing time. Atomistic lifestyle where they go back to their hotel and maybe they play video games or maybe they just chill and get sleep with mouth tape on or whatever people are doing. And no one's just like, hanging out and feeling banging, you know what I mean?

Rory was one of so many people that wanted to correct something that Brady said earlier this week. Rory said last episode you said that Trace Thompson. She said you in this. He's specifically referring to Brady. Last episode, Brady said that Trace Thompson was the player on Great Britain who hit the laid off home run off scubal. It was actually Nate Eden who did. Eaton went 3 for 3 and was the only player on Great Britain who had a hit in the game.

Oh, he did it. All himself. And you tried to give that to Megan the Stallion.

[Brady]

Even Trace Thompson had the catch in the outfield and he was also an outfielder for Great Britain. And my mind cannot connect who does what in any sense. I see a thing and the names all become blended. Look, I was under the impression this is the podcast for people who don't have have to know things.

Right. But you do technically, I think have to know things. Unfortunately. And here's the thing, in Brady's defense, we should have caught that cuz this is how I felt watching deroza on MLB Network is somebody should have gone also no coach that Skip. That's not the way that it works. You do need to play. You're going to have to win the game against Italy. So we didn't say anything and catch it. But in my defense, I was. I didn't see see the first pitch of the game because I watched it on a phone in a green room because I was being a supportive, let's just say wife because it's easier. So it's not my fault that I missed it. And I was really counting on you to download me with the information, Brady. And I think this is technically strike two probably.
