Tyler
And we're back. We're back with another episode of Kate and Tie. Break it down. And we are with Noly and Mochi. Again.
Nova
Gotta have them.
Tyler
You gotta have them. I know you're. You're. It's your best friend Tyler has been doing work at one of our rental properties. So things.
Nova
He's doing amazing.
Tyler
Yeah. So things are crazy for him. So Nova. And Nova's been begging me. She's like, can I do another episode with you? Can I do another episode with you? And I was like, all right, well, here we are. What? You guys just got out on summer break June 5th. Yeah. So couple. Just a couple days ago.
Nova
Yeah.
Tyler
Three days ago. Four days ago. Because I think today.
Nova
Three days ago.
Tyler
Today's the 8th, I believe.
Nova
Oh, yeah. Yeah. So. Yeah. So three days ago.
Tyler
Okay. And I know you guys were super excited to get out for summer.
Nova
Yeah. Huh. I've been obsessed with the sims lately.
Tyler
Yes. I don't Know if anybody else. I mean, I remember being younger and I went through a phase of being obsessed with playing Sims and being on the computer for, like, hours, building houses, building people, taking care of my family, and then, you know, building other. Then I would stop playing a family, and then I'd always want to build, like, a whole nother new house and stuff.
Nova
Yeah. I think the most favorite part for me, I know a lot of people love building the houses, but I don't really spend that much time on the house. I just want to make my sims look pretty. Oh, yeah. That's the only priority I want. And then I'll move over to the house and try to think of what I picture in my mind.
Tyler
So you just like the part of designing yourself?
Nova
Designing my Sims, I think it just gives me so much creativity. I don't know why. Because, like, I don't know.
Tyler
And it's funny because Sims is like you're playing a fake life and not living your real life.
Nova
You're basically escaping reality.
Tyler
What do you have to escape from?
Nova
This guy Mochi.
Tyler
Why do you. No, why would you have to escape from Mochi?
Nova
I don't know. He poops all over my bed. Huh.
Tyler
He's what? He's pooped on your bed? Like, once. And we had to strip it and clean it.
Nova
He's also pooped on the floor.
Tyler
Yeah. Yep.
Nova
He also pooped when I was in a call with one of my friends, so I had to clean that spot up. Yeah. Yeah.
Tyler
He's checking everything out, too.
Nova
Yeah.
Tyler
I just can't believe that you finished fifth grade. A B's and C's. And then we have summer, and then you're going into sixth grade.
Nova
Yep. I'm not looking forward to it.
Tyler
You're not?
Nova
No.
Tyler
Sixth grade. Nova. That's crazy.
Nova
Only got six more years left.
Tyler
Yeah. And then if you decide to go to college, then you have even more.
Nova
I don't know. No, I'm thinking about it. Unless you want to get a challenging job, like being a veterinarian or a doctor or a scientist, I might be nice. Yeah.
Tyler
You like science?
Nova
Oh, I love it.
Tyler
And you're really good at science, too. What are, like, some of the main things you want to do? I feel like.
Nova
Well, the main thing I want to do. Well, everything is made out of science. Think about it. Science. Art is made from science. This is made from science because it was made from art. This was made from science because it was made from art. And art is made from science. Well. And science is Earth. So every Everything like this curtain. It took science for you to think of it and then for you to bring it into reality. So I just. I don't know. I don't know what I'm going to do. But my most priority is probably being a full time artist, a veterinarian
Tyler
or
Nova
a scientist. Those are my three things I think
Tyler
you'd be good at. Science or something to do with like
Nova
explore, like exploring different reactions. Exploring like atoms and. Or studies space.
Tyler
Yeah. Space is interesting. It's scary. Like I said, I'm like, I don't. I would never want to go there.
Nova
Oh, I. Yeah, space is really scary because we can't even fathom the size of our own galaxy. But I think it's so cool.
Tyler
I mean, there are cool parts of it for sure. Yeah.
Nova
Like a black hole swallowing a black hole. I think that's just what.
Tyler
It blows your mind.
Nova
Yeah. They actually have a sound of a black hole colliding with another black hole. And it's just this weird, eerie, just. Ugh. But there's no sound in space, so they. Yeah. And you know, everything's made out of waves.
Tyler
So what do they do? They like come up with a sound that they believe it would make?
Nova
No, no, it's just chronic waves.
Tyler
Okay.
Nova
That are coming from the collision. So like you speaking to my right now, you are making sound waves.
Tyler
Right.
Nova
So nothing can be heard in space because of the dense atmosphere. Basically no atmosphere. And atmosphere basically holds sound, sound, air, light. Mm. That's why the sky's blue. Mm.
Tyler
Yeah.
Nova
Yeah, that's what I think. Everything's made out of waves. So they turned that wave to make it into sound waves. And I think it's just really cool.
Tyler
It is super cool. You show me a few of those videos. And so for summertime, we're definitely like an avid camping family.
Nova
Oh, yeah. Oh, I love camping.
Tyler
Yeah, we love to camp. And so we've. Me and we've already booked a couple camping trips.
Nova
Really?
Tyler
Yep.
Nova
Mm.
Tyler
We're gonna go in a couple weeks. And then.
Nova
I know. I get so, so sad about that boy that happened at Jellystone.
Tyler
I know.
Nova
Like, rest in peace.
Tyler
Yeah, that was sad. Yeah. And then we. We booked one for Torch Lake.
Nova
Oh, I haven't heard. I've heard of that. I've heard of that place, but I haven't. We've never gone to it.
Tyler
No. Yeah. So we booked a camping trip for Torch Lake in August.
Nova
He's just sliding down. Yeah.
Tyler
He's probably gonna try to escape. And besides, like camping, we just. What we have pool. We do pool parties. We barbecue.
Nova
Yeah, we barbecue. We do, huh?
Tyler
And then we just. Most of the time, we love to camp. Yeah. No, Florida's far away and it's expensive.
Nova
Yeah.
Tyler
But so I got these. I wanted to do these with you. Your dad actually got them, and I was like, this is a great idea. So Tyler found these cards on Amazon, and it's called Children are Human, and it's got a bunch of questions. And so basically, you'll answer the question and then I'll answer it once you've answered it. Okay. So I wanted to do a few of these with you.
Nova
Let's see if I can get them.
Tyler
And it looks like there's two sides. There's like an easy side, and then there's like a. I don't know, maybe like a more intense.
Nova
Let's do the easy side question. Let's just do the easy sides. Yeah, but you're probably freezing, bro. Your lights turned off just a few minutes ago.
Tyler
Oh, did it?
Nova
Yeah.
Tyler
Okay.
Nova
Don't go through my ear like the other podcast. That was hilarious. Oh, God, the way he just poked through my hair. Yoink. Get out of here. Air. Here he goes. Yep. Exploring. I hope he doesn't poop on here.
Tyler
That would suck.
Nova
Yeah.
Tyler
Because if anybody's got a bearded dragon,
Nova
you know how gross it smells disgusting. Especially when they, like, freak out when there's just, like, one little glob of poop in there. No.
Tyler
Oh, yeah.
Nova
I'm dying, Mother. I'm dying.
Tyler
If anybody has a bearded dragon, you know that their poop is disgusting. So that would not be good, especially
Nova
when you have to clean it up.
Tyler
Oh. If your family had a theme song, what would it be? A theme song. Like a song that describes our family. What do you think it would be?
Nova
I think like two key important opponents would like two key words or like, you know what I mean? The loud house. Loud. And it just reminds me of that one show.
Tyler
Oh, the Loud House.
Nova
One boy, ten girls wouldn't trade it for the world. Oh, yeah.
Tyler
So more of a show. You're like, the Loud House.
Nova
Yeah. You're talking to me. I'm over here stuck in my room playing the Sims, and all of a sudden I hear in the hallway,
Tyler
yeah, we are. We are a loud house. Yes, we are. Okay. What makes you feel embarrassed sometimes? Does anything ever embarrass you?
Nova
Maybe like, a couple. Oh, no, I actually. I'm trying to think of it when my friends come over and Mochi decides
Tyler
to poop all over my carpet that makes you embarrassed?
Nova
Yes.
Tyler
I guess that makes sense.
Nova
Because of my friends, like, he pooped.
Tyler
I think, for me, what makes me feel embarrassed sometimes I would say. I would have to say, sometimes it's my. My children. And when they ask certain questions, like, Vadel will be like, what's that part? Yeah. Or Vada would say like, mom, you know? Why.
Nova
How do kids get inside bellies?
Tyler
No, no.
Nova
Oh.
Tyler
Oh.
Nova
You don't get embarrassed by that? Okay.
Tyler
No, I mean, as far as, like, when we're in public somewhere, why does
Nova
that guy look like that?
Tyler
Yeah, Vada will say something like that. Or she'll be like, you have a baby in your belly, and it's like, bro. Or maybe. Or the one time we were in the. You know, the one time we were in the airport, and there was a girl, and she. No, I'm talking about you now. There was girl, and she had, like, a prosthetic leg. And we were standing in line, and you were like, why does her leg look like that? And I was like, nova. And then the girl turned around. She's like, it's okay. It's okay. She. Because I was gonna, like, talk to you about it, obviously.
Nova
Me? I said that.
Tyler
Yeah, but the girl turned around and she was like, it's okay. Like. And she explained it to you and stuff. And I was like, oh. I'm like, yeah, but you. Come on, parents, you know, kids that ask certain questions, especially Beta.
Nova
There's this one girl in Disneyland, which I believe. I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna claim that she has down syndrome, but she might have it by just. This might sound really bad from my perspective, but maybe because of how she's in a wheelchair, how she can't speak properly, I'm just claiming that as a person, that she might have down syndrome. To anybody that's watching that has a certain disability, I do not mean that
Tyler
as, oh, we know Nova.
Nova
Okay. Okay. Well, I'm just paid. You know, I'm throwing it out there. And Vader was like, why does she look like that?
Tyler
Yeah.
Nova
I like to put it in simple terms and say, so. She probably wasn't born like that, but I like to say, oh, she was born like that. That's. That's usually the most common way Veda would understand.
Tyler
Well, yeah, because she's so little. Right. And it's important that, you know, you. Especially parents or older sisters. You know, I've had to have talks with Veda and you when you were little, growing up about people that are, you know, born differently or maybe they have disabilities or maybe they're have veticulo, viticulo or. You know what I mean? Like, you have to have conversations. Yeah. Vitiligo.
Nova
Yeah.
Tyler
Like. Or just people that are, you know, everybody. Well, what I've always told you guys is everybody is born differently. Nobody. There's no one. There's no two humans that'll look alike. Except for like twins. Yeah. Okay.
Nova
But the thing is that I like to think of it in my mind. Everybody's different at the out ins, outside, but we're almost all the same on the inside. We have blood, we have organs, we have a brain. But some people might. We have. We have organs that keep us alive. We have things like.
Tyler
Well, I think at the end of the day. Well, I know. I think at the end of the day it's important to say that, you know, we are all humans and humans deserve to be loved and respected and valued in all those things. Yeah.
Nova
Love you guys.
Tyler
Know that whenever our family travels, the last thing that I want to deal with is trying to find WI fi, buying a SIM card in an airport, or getting hit with a huge roaming bill when we get home. That's why I love Saly Staley is an EIM app from the creators of NordVPN, and it gives you affordable mobile data in more than 200 destinations around the world. It can set up before a trip and the minute that I land, I'm connected. No hunting for a SIM card kiosk, no stressing about how I'm going to pull up maps, check messages, call an Uber, or access booking confirmations. Honestly, when you're traveling with kids, anything that makes life easier is a huge win. I love knowing I can stay connected right away, whether we're navigating a new city, checking travel plans, or keeping in touch with family back home. What I really like is that one EIM installation works across multiple trips and countries, which makes traveling so much easier. It also works with both iPhone and Android devices that support EIM and Saily even includes built in security and ad blocking features. Download the Saily app and use code Kate Tai checkout to get 15% off your Saly Eim plan. You're listening to this podcast, so I know you've got a curious mind. Nova
Anything.
Tyler
Yeah. You have a magic wand.
Nova
You can change only one wish.
Tyler
Yeah. Just one thing.
Nova
One thing. Probably cruelty. Get away. Cruelty. We don't need you.
Tyler
What's a no cruelty in the world.
Nova
No cruelty. No. Oh. Oh, you look weird. So that means that you're a bad person. Nothing like that. Nothing like that. Anything they say is, oh, that person looks weird. So that person's probably a bad person. We do not want any of that.
Tyler
Okay.
Nova
I think want positive interactions with other people.
Tyler
Okay.
Nova
Physical, mentally. We just want physical interacts. Like happy interactions with human beings.
Tyler
Yeah, I like that.
Nova
I can solve world hunger. Or I can tell billionaires. Hey.
Tyler
Well, it's a. What one thing.
Nova
Well, I'm just. Or. Or I'm just saying things that I might say. So. Like, let's say a billionaire. Hey, you know what? Let's make a law where you give at least $2,000 every single month to someone in need.
Tyler
That would be good.
Nova
That would be like, hey, especially, I
Tyler
mean, if they're a billionaire. They should. Yes.
Nova
You got a billion million dollars.
Tyler
I think if I had a magic wand, one thing I would change about the world, I think would be equal rights for everybody.
Nova
Everybody.
Tyler
Woman. Women.
Nova
Yeah. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not gonna.
Tyler
Hold on, you're interrupting. Women, the LGBTQ communities. I mean, men, you know, everybody. To have equal rights on every single thing.
Nova
Because there is. I'm not gonna say, like, I know these countries have a certain culture, but I'm just saying it feels wrong in my perspective. But if anyone leaves in any of these countries, I'm not gonna say the countries, but I'm just gonna say, like, the things that happen there. Like there's. What?
Tyler
What do you mean? What are you talking about?
Nova
Okay, so there's just one country where women cannot show their faces anywhere.
Tyler
Yeah. No, they can't. Nowhere.
Nova
Nada. We don't want to see your face. I just want to have children with you. Almost like.
Tyler
Yeah. Why? What do you think about that? Do you think all women shouldn't be, like.
Nova
All women should embrace themselves no matter how you look?
Tyler
Well, it's not about the looks.
Nova
Yes, I know that. I'm saying every. I'm not saying anything about the looks. I'm just saying, like.
Tyler
No, I'm just saying. I'm saying that their culture, it's not like they don't.
Nova
It.
Tyler
They cover up because nobody is supposed to see them besides their husbands.
Nova
I know that, but I'm kind of drifting off to a new path.
Tyler
What do you mean?
Nova
Yeah, I'm just. Oh, see, you make me forget almost everything. What was I saying? Oh, yeah. All women should embrace themselves, no matter how body size, no matter how they look. I feel like everybody should embrace themselves. People that don't embrace themselves, I feel like. I feel like they should definitely try to, at least.
Tyler
Yeah.
Nova
Well.
Tyler
And, I mean, sometimes people might need to, like, go to therapy or something to work on themselves to embrace themselves or whatever, you know?
Nova
Yeah.
Tyler
What do you think I was like as a kid?
Nova
Am I okay to say this in front of.
Tyler
Yeah. What do you think I was like, in your mind, what do you think I was like as a kid?
Nova
You were more of a daredevil.
Tyler
You think so?
Nova
Maybe a little bit more timid, but more confident. And when things happen, like, let's say one of your friends are getting hurt, you're gonna stand up for them.
Tyler
Yeah.
Nova
Yeah. I think that that's the kind of person that you would be when you were younger. Were you that person?
Tyler
I would say I wasn't as, like, much as, like, a daredevil. I definitely would stick up for people. I think I was more of, like a. You wouldn't do, like, any, like, crazy things or, you know, you did, like,
Nova
very slight risks or.
Tyler
No, I was more of like, a. An observer. Like, I would observe people doing things before I would do them, you know?
Nova
And that's. You. You need that. You need that.
Tyler
Yeah, we kind of, like, watch to see what, you know, what people are doing.
Nova
Like, bungee jumping.
Tyler
Oh, my gosh.
Nova
Should I do that?
Tyler
Oh, I did it. I did it. But I was terrified. It was so scary. But it was very overwhelming once. Like, I don't know. It was very overwhelming once I did it. Like, all these emotions flooded to me
Nova
for some reason, and it's all combined in this One little compaction of excitement.
Tyler
Yeah. Adrenaline.
Nova
Adrenaline.
Tyler
If you were invisible for a day. Oh, what would you do?
Nova
Okay, so definitely if I was invisible for a day.
Tyler
Yeah.
Nova
I probably wouldn't go to school, but if I went to school, because our school, I'm gonna say this. Everywhere has a bowling problem, but I think our school has a little bit worse.
Tyler
Well, you've never been to another school to know.
Nova
Yeah, I don't know, but I'm just saying that as my perspective, I think our school is pretty bad. Boiling, bullying, Especially with kids that are different. Saying that quotes, as in, nobody's different in the inside, but they're. People have different personalities on the inside. I'm. I'm correcting myself. Anyways, what was I saying?
Tyler
You were saying that you feel like I asked, if you were invisible for a day, what would you do?
Nova
Definitely punch the kids that were being mean to the other kids. That would hurt invisibly. Invisibly.
Tyler
Yeah, invisibly. Punch them.
Nova
Pull their hair. Maybe, like, pull them to the ground.
Tyler
The bullies.
Nova
The bullies. Yeah. Yep. Yep.
Tyler
Oh, yeah. That's funny.
Nova
Or. Or I would, like, kind of play with the teachers a little bit. You know, pull their hair up like a ghost. Oh, yeah. Pretend to be, I'm here. I'm haunting you.
Tyler
Could you imagine that? Probably really freak somebody out. You're invisible. Yeah.
Nova
Like, no. I'll whisper in the air.
Tyler
Oh, that would freak me out, honestly. Yeah.
Nova
Because freak me out when I would do this principle. I'm your conscious. Here are the lists of people that are being mean.
Tyler
Yeah. Well, hopefully they would do something. If I was invisible for a day, what would I do? That's a hard one. Maybe I would want to be, like, a. Like, in rooms with, like, certain family members of mine to see what they talk about, if they talk about me and what they say, so that way I can, like, get back to them later. What is the revenge? Seriously, what is the best gift you have ever received?
Nova
The best gift ever? Huh? Probably being born in this family.
Tyler
Oh, that's sweet. I was gonna say my children, because
Nova
I'm just saying this. There's billions of people out there that are suffering from abuse.
Tyler
Yeah.
Nova
It's sad, because I'm just happy that we have a house, we have food on the table, that I have two loving and caring parents.
Tyler
No, thanks, Nova.
Nova
Like, that's. Hey, there's nothing that I can. Yeah, well, I love you. I love you, too.
Tyler
What is one thing that makes you feel angry sometimes?
Nova
Angry? Mostly my sisters. But another thing Is seeing people do something to people that are not right. I just get this weird, almost tangled feeling in my gut, and I just get fuming.
Tyler
Well, it's important that you. You know, and I know you do, but it's important to stand up.
Nova
I also can't control my anger when that happens, too.
Tyler
I was gonna say, but it's important for you to, you know, make sure you stand like, you know, we've always
Nova
taught you, always try. If there's a chance for me to stand up for somebody that's struggling, I will do it.
Tyler
Or making that, you know, somebody's making them feel smaller or whatever. You always got to stand up for those.
Nova
Oh, yes. Yes. You know, because once one single act can change a whole entire future.
Tyler
Yeah. Or somebody.
Nova
Now I'm talking about it right now. My future. Your future is always changing.
Tyler
Yeah.
Nova
It is zigzag by the.
Tyler
Yeah. By the decisions that you make.
Nova
Yeah.
Tyler
And so people that.
Nova
And you make decisions every day. I. I had a decision to sit here and talk with my mom about stuff, but I couldn't have done it. In another universe, I probably wouldn't have do it. Done it. Not saying I love doing this because I love you guys, but. But also, in another universe, I probably could be making a whole different decision.
Tyler
Yeah. And I think what you said there was important to note that, you know, people that pick on somebody or bully somebody or something, you. The person that you're picking on or bullying could be affected forever from that one situation.
Nova
Every single person is different by the way how they react.
Tyler
Yeah. What does that have to do with what I said? What? What does that have to do with what I said?
Nova
What did you say?
Tyler
I was talking about how, you know, like, when somebody is bullying someone, that bully is picking on some. So the person that is being picked on or bullied, you know, that one interaction of the day or whatever it was being changed.
Nova
The whole future.
Tyler
Yeah. Can change, like, their whole future.
Nova
One impact can choose or make a person choose different decisions.
Tyler
Yeah. And I think we should all just.
Nova
Why?
Tyler
I don't understand what's the point of bullying. Yeah. And I know that there's a lot. And I know that there's a lot of people that bully because maybe their home lives are bad or, you know, something is going on in their lives or whatever.
Nova
Or maybe it's just fear. Think about it. If someone is bullying someone, that bully might think or say they're not talking back, because if they talk to. Back to me first, I will feel weaker. So I must Attack them first. Because before they attack me.
Tyler
I mean, I could. Yeah, I could see that too. Yeah, Because.
Nova
Because think about it. Almost more than half the population of bullies out there are either struggling with something about home or have a fear of being targeted first.
Tyler
Yeah, I totally, I can totally see that.
Nova
For sure, that's why more bullyings come to someone that are feared by getting targeted first because of one of those insecurities. But there could also be things about. Okay, so that more than half of the population. Well, what about the other population? You say there's no point of bullying. Right. And most people. But not most. Well, whatever. But that other half of the population probably doesn't know what that person is going through. They're probably unknowing of what that person is dealing with. Like, let's say someone has cancer, a certain type of cancer. This bully that's bullying them probably doesn't know they have cancer. Oh, you shaved your head. Maybe because I'm not saying this as a weird thing, but most. But the other half of the population of bullies are probably unintelligent about what's happening to that person.
Tyler

Nova
Because I always handle bullying as nothing that I do get bullied regularly. I get a little comment. Comment.
Tyler
What do you put comments.
Nova
Comments now and then. But yeah, whatever. Those comments don't matter. Yeah, maybe they're trying to say I don't know what's happening to you. That's what, that's what I like to put in my own words.
Tyler
Okay.
Nova
Like let's say, oh, what happened to your hair? They're just curious. Or, or like oh my God, you shaved your eyebrows. Like a mean way. Not saying that I did, but like in a mean way. You probably don't know why I shaved my eyebrows. So most, most people that are bullying are probably like, oh, I don't know what this person's going through. So I must. So I feel the tension of wanting to know them. But I don't want to make it noticeable.
Tyler
Yeah, but I don't think I personally, I don't think bullying is just because people are curious.
Nova
Search it up. Some people think that they're cursed, but they don't want to make it more obvious that they're curious. That they're curious. They don't want to make themselves on and, like, seem unintelligent.
Tyler
Well, I don't think that's a good way to be curious by being mean or.
Nova
Exactly. No, I'm not saying this is a positive thing.
Tyler
No, I know.
Nova
Saying this as an explanation.
Tyler
One explanation.
Nova
One or two explanations of why bullying might happen to somebody.
Tyler
All right, let's see. If you could be any age, what age would you be and why? 5.
Nova
I had way much more imagination. I feel like right now, more colors are saturated than it used to be.
Tyler
You feel like you have more imagination at five than you do now?
Nova
Yes. Imagination. Five.
Tyler
Playing with my.
Nova
I guess playing with my dolls in my own world, in my little mind.
Tyler
Oh, true. Yeah. If I could go back to any age, I would want to go back to, like, 14 or 15.
Nova
What is he doing? He's licking his lips. Why you do dragons do that? To release stress. At least that's what I read. Huh.
Tyler
Why is he stressed? He. He's just. He's got the easiest life ever. He's just laying there. I would want to go back to the ages of, like, 14, 15, because it was all about friends and hanging out and having fun. Yeah. I would like to go back to that time period for, like, a weekend. Like, a long weekend would be good.
Nova
Eight days of being 14 again.
Tyler
Yeah, just. Just a few days.
Nova
Like, three days.
Tyler
Oh, here's a good one. If you could change one rule at school, what would it be?
Nova
The dress code, definitely. Oh, boys can wear tank tops, but I can't.
Tyler
Boys can't wear tank tops. What do you mean? We read the school handbook.
Nova
What do you mean? I've seen multiple boys go past the vice principal wearing tank tops. A girl walks past with a tank top, the vice president, like, oh, that's inappropriate. Go change and put on a sweater.
Tyler
So you would change the dress code. You wouldn't change, like, no homework or home? That's weird. The dress code, I would have been like, no homework.
Nova
Instead of saying, oh, women should cover up so boys don't look at them. How about the dress code could be changed to, men shouldn't be looking at women's shoulders being creeps.
Tyler
Yeah, I know, but it's. I get. No, I totally. I mean. I mean, me and you agree on that, but also, I read the student handbook.
Nova
And why does that happen at school then?
Tyler
I don't know. That's my question. Well, like, I already told You. I said if they were to come up to you for wearing a thick, strapped tank top, you tell them, call my mother.
Nova
I know. I got two warnings.
Tyler
Yeah, that's stupid.
Nova
But then I seen like five boys walk past and like the smallest skinny.
Tyler
I see. I've been looking when I would go pick you up and I didn't see any. What? Okay. Do you. I don't know if you might to think for a second. What is the funniest joke that you know?
Nova
Probably your mama joke.
Tyler
Yeah. Well one.
Nova
Your mama so bald when I swiped her head, I saw the whole future. I love that one. What's your funniest joke?
Tyler
Why'd the chicken cross the road?
Nova
Because.
Tyler
Yeah. How'd you know?
Nova
I guessed.
Tyler
Yup. What is something you like about yourself that others might not notice?
Nova
Oh, that's a tough question. Probably the way I handle things. I may react more differently inside than I want to react. So let's say someone is unknowing of like, why I changed something about me.
Tyler
Mm.
Nova
I would try to explain it in a more calm way, but inside I might think that's a little bit more offensive. But I would still explain to them to see, like, why that happened. Because, you know, people. People are people, they're curious. People want to know new stuff. Well, not all people especially. Yeah, not all people, especially kids that are in school. But yeah.
Tyler
Let's see. What's something you like about yourself that others might not notice? For me, I think it's that I'm a very forgiving person. I'm a very kind person. But. And I have a very long fuse. But once.
Nova
What does that mean? Like, long fuse?
Tyler
Long fuse. Like it takes me a really long time to get angry. Yeah, but once I'm angry.
Nova
You blow over the dump.
Tyler
Yes. All right, let's see.
Nova
I'm not saying that as anger issues. I'm just saying that that's not. That's not an issue. It's normal. Building up that rage and all of a sudden they just can't go anywhere. So you just explode. That's what I think of it.
Tyler
Yeah. I have a very long views. Very, very long views. When was the time you did something kind for someone else? Okay, so how did it make you feel?
Nova
Okay. Okay. Probably the first week of middle school. Jackson. I'm not gonna say his last name, but Jackson, he is definitely. He's on the spectrum. People were saying, though, weird number six, seven thing to him. He did not like it. Well, actually the first few months of school, actually, not few weeks and what was I thinking? But those two words,
Tyler
Satan, six says six, seven to him.
Nova
He did not like it. So he would make sure, like he was really nice. He's more respectful than me, definitely. But he would, he would say, hey, I don't like the word because it kind of just doesn't make me sit. Right. That's what he would say. And that's like, that's a good way to put it.
Tyler
Okay, but what did you do that was kind for him?
Nova
So he started getting really irritated because these three kids came up to him and they would run past him multiple times going, shake heaven.
Tyler
Oh God. Huh.
Nova
And so, so he was. Jackson Bird was literally crying on the side of the brick wall at recess. And this one kid, someone came over there and he said, hey, Jackson, guess what? Jackson was wiping away his shoes. He was like, what? And the kid went, six, seven. So I stood up, I ran over. Before this kid could run away, I grabbed him by the T shirt, pulled him over. And I'm like, clearly he's not like that.
Tyler
Yeah, very sternly, uh huh.
Nova
Do you see him bawling his eyes out?
Tyler
Yeah, that's not nice.
Nova
And this kid could. I know, I saw him. He was like, this lady just grabbed you by the T shirt. So I was basically.
Tyler
So you basically told that guy to leave him alone, right?
Nova
No, but also I said, why? I also let in some of my curiosity and not really good way. But I said, why did you gain amusement from somebody's discomfort?
Tyler
Yeah, it's true. Why? Right.
Nova
And then this kid was just like,
Tyler
he didn't know what to say.
Nova
No. So I'm like, get back in line. Go away from him. Yeah, that's it. That kid never went back up to him and said that he told a couple of his friends and those kids stopped.
Tyler
Well, did you go up to Jackson after that?
Nova
Oh yeah, definitely. I sat beside him and was, hey, Jackson, don't mind them. They're just unintelligent people thinking that they're the boss. Making someone feel sad, that's not right.
Tyler
Yeah, it's horrible. That's so sad.
Nova
I know I've been tolerating this. Not really tolerating it, but I've been like saying it nicely to the people that are saying it to him. So I was straight up irritated. Just like Jackson bawling his eyes out.
Tyler
What advice would you give to a younger kid?
Nova
Like what age?
Tyler
Just somebody younger. Any advice in the world? What would you give them?
Nova
Always accept others no matter what. Like not you can accept them, but Also, you need to also teach them some stuff. If they're doing something bad, accept people that love the same gender as them.
Tyler
Something happened down there. We're recording my ties downstairs with all the kiddos, so.
Nova
Didn't hear what I said?
Tyler
Yeah, I was listening.
Nova
Okay. What did I say?
Tyler
Well, no, I think you're right. Yeah, I think. Let me see, if. Advice to a younger person. I would say, love yourself for who you are. Don't let others bring her down. Don't let other people make you feel certain types of. About certain types of ways about yourself. And also, you're going to go through hard things. But going through hard things makes you come back stronger. It makes you come back stronger, and it also makes you more wise. Like, as you get older, you get wiser. Let's see. I think we have time. We're gonna do. Let's do one more. What's. What job do you think would be super boring?
Nova
What job? Probably making those containers in the factory.
Tyler
Oh, like a. Like just making random containers in a factory?
Nova
Yeah.
Tyler
Okay. For me, I feel like a boring job. Would be a math teacher.
Nova
Math teacher. Yeah. Okay. If I was a teacher, I would just make my class fun. I don't care. I'm gonna give you calculators. Do it. Turn on some music. Whatever music you want.
Tyler
When I was your age and like, going through school and stuff, our math teachers used to say, you need to learn this because you're never going to have a c. A calculator just in your pocket. And now we.
Nova
Look at us now.
Tyler
Yep. Oh, okay. Well, let's. Let's end with this one. Let's see. If you were an animal, what animal would you be and why?
Nova
Let me sink in this chair for a minute. That is a very strong question that I cannot imply.
Tyler
You can't. If I was an animal, I would either want to be, like, an elephant because they're big and strong and, like, just. I love elephants. Or like a lioness
Nova
do all the work, though.
Tyler
I know they do, but they're. Yeah, they're baddies, you know?
Nova
Baddies.
Tyler
Yeah, baddies. Taking down a Dr. Like with my baddie friends.
Nova
Yeah. Just taking down a giraffe, like, so. Nonsense.
Tyler
Yeah, they're. They're baddies, you know?
Nova
Guess what? Okay, so I have this one implied in my mind. You probably know what I'm gonna say, but most likely a certain type of wild dog, like, maybe I'm gonna throw it out there, but maybe a wolf.
Tyler
Yeah. You like wolves?
Nova
I love wolves. I love wolves. That I would love to be one in my next life.
Tyler
Possibly I would love to take you to like a wolf sanctuary.
Nova
Oh.
Tyler

They have one in Colorado. And I looked it up a few years back because I really wanted to take you. And then I found out that you can't do the wolf like interactions. Yeah. Unless you were like 16 years old or 18 years old. I know, and I don't know why. I don't know if it's like an insurance thing or something, but I was like, man, I would love to take Nova to go do something like that.
Nova
Trust me. I've loving wolves for three years and I'm still going.
Tyler
Yeah, wolves are cool. Remember the ones we saw at the Detroit Zoo? That male, the female was really pretty, but then all of a sudden we
Nova
were like standing there and this ginormous muscly.
Tyler
He was huge.
Nova
He came up. Yeah.
Tyler
He was coming out the wood and we were. I was like.
Nova
And the normal gray wolf and the black wolver just all of a sudden chasing each other playfully. I think that was so cool to watch.
Tyler
I know. But I could never realize. I was like, well, he was huge.
Nova
Oh, yeah. You. You underestimate the size of wolves.
Tyler
Yeah.
Nova
No, I was like, wow, they are up to the size of an average male height. If they would stood on their hind legs.
Tyler
Yeah. And I know there's a bunch of different wolves. Like, they're small wolves, medium, but the wolf wolf set. The wolf, the male wolf at the Detroit Zoo. I was like, wow, he's huge.
Nova
Male wolves. Male wolves are typically larger because they use more muscle. Like let's say a female wolf.
Tyler
Well, yeah, the. All the males are usually bigger.
Nova
She would most likely be able to have offspring and be able to protect them by how smaller and agile she is. While a male would have more muscle so he could take down bigger prey to feed his pack. That's how I like to put it. But I would love to be a wolf because.
Tyler
Would you want to be a wolf male or a wolf female?
Nova
I don't know. No, just like probably like a dispersed wolf. Like a loner wolf, you know? Oh, these I would love.
Tyler
You wouldn't want to have a pack.
Nova
I would love to have the feeling of just closing my eyes and be able to basically place this, the whole entire environment by environment in my mind. Wolves do not need eyes to see. They have their nose. It's so strong.
Tyler
Well, yeah. Yeah.
Nova
So they can smell basically everything. And those smells are transformed into different fumes or colors, which I think is so cool.
Tyler
It is pretty cool. Wolves are cool. I don't blame you. There they are really cool.
Nova
And I also love the aspect of them having roles and higher hierarchies, because it depends.
Tyler
Yeah, there you go. In a pack.
Nova
Did you know. You know how the. Okay, so there's this one pack, I think, in, like, the northwest region and like a zoo or something that. The top of the pyramid, though I like to think of it, is actually the female. So she gets the most food, she gets the most treatment because she needs to have puppies for the next generation. So below there that are usually the leaders of the pack or males in this specific zoo. I don't know whatever else, or, like, if. If it's the same in other wolf packs, but in that zoo, that's most likely what happens.
Tyler
Super. It's interesting. All right, one last question from your mom to you.
Nova
What.
Tyler
So you're going into sixth grade after the summer. What is one goal you can give yourself going into middle school?
Nova
Middle school? Well, I'm already in middle school.
Tyler
Well, I mean, but like, middle. Like sixth grade. What is one goal you want to give yourself
Nova
one goal? Probably just stand up for many. As many people as I can. That's gonna be my most top goal every single school year. Okay. Because this school has a lot of, like, different special needs kids. Well, good.
Tyler
Stand up for those kids, as you should. You know what I mean?
Nova
And kids that are different.
Tyler
Yeah. And like I tell you all the time is, you know, you can always cut. You know, if there's any. If anything turns into a bigger issue, you know, you need to tell me, like, if you stand up for somebody, which me and your dad always tell you, like, you stand up for somebody, do what you can, but if nobody intervenes or helps you, helps you, or helps them, or, you know, helps you help them, then we need to be aware. So that way me and your dad can kind of step in too, and help.
Nova
The stupid thing is, is that I've told these teachers all the names of the people that keep coming up to Jackson and saying, I'm six, Aaron.
Tyler
Well, I'm standing up for him.
Nova
There's only this one teacher that I adore. He. He recently got out of cancer. He says he has all his hair back. You know what I'm talking about, the one with the cool glasses.
Tyler
But, no, I think that's a good goal. I think standing up for people and being kind to people is what we need more in this world. You know what I mean? But thanks for doing this with me again. I love you. It's always fun. I know people always love to hear you talk and the way that you speak on things. You guys, please make sure you go like and rate our show. That helps us a lot. In this special episode, Tyler is joined by daughter Nova for a fun, heartfelt, and candid conversation as Catelynn handles other duties. Together, they discuss everything from summer break and The Sims obsession to deep musings on science and space, school stories, bullying, dress codes, equality, and kindness. Using a deck of thought-provoking question cards, they spark engaging and often moving conversations about family life, personal growth, and Nova’s experiences and hopes.
Understanding bullying:
Handling bullying: Nova shares her own experience with occasional comments but chooses to perceive rude questions as curiosity. Tyler asserts that curiosity shouldn’t be mean and talks about the importance of teachers getting involved. (30:28–31:46)
The conversation is genuine, loving, warm, and sprinkled with humor and vulnerability. Nova is articulate and philosophical well beyond her years, diving into complex topics like equality, bullying, and empathy, all while being her energetic, funny, and creative self. Tyler is supportive, guiding, and offers her own wisdom and candid stories, grounding the conversation in practical advice and encouragement.
