Nova
Yes. I'm so happy to be here.
Ty
Do you like. I mean, what do you think? Do you did the podcast last week, Mom. So what do you. I mean, what are your thoughts about now that you've, like, done a podcast?
Nova
I think it's really fun.
Ty
Is it?
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
Why do you think it's fun?
Nova
I don't. I really don't know. I just think it's like. So
Ty
you put him under the blanket?
Sponsor Voice
Yeah.
Ty
Okay. So she has her bearded dragon with her, of course, mochi over here. Once again, because he was, I guess. What was he doing?
Nova
He was surfing on the glass. Like he was wanting to get out. He was, like scratching on the glass. He was jumping on the glass and he was like.
Ty
So he's another co host? I guess. Look at. He's crazy. He just licked the cord. He doesn't know what's going on, but yes. Oh. I was like thinking in my head, I'm like, well, you did one last week with mom. So you thought it was like. I mean, hey, I thought it was
Nova
really fun just talking.
Ty
Right. Honestly, isn't this what we do at home anyway? I mean, so it's kind of like. Yeah, it's pretty normal.
Nova
Yeah. Except I'm in front of millions of people, so it's Kind of.
Ty
Whoa. What do you mean? What is that? I mean, does that like it kind of? Because technically, you're not in front of millions of people yet. It's just me and you right now. Eventually it will be. But what does that feel like?
Nova
It feels.
Ty
There he goes. Oh, my mochi just crawled off the chair. Okay. Watch out.
Nova
So I'm trying not to.
Ty
It's all right.
Nova
He eats cords.
Ty
He does?
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
Well, don't let him eat the cats. Gore the mic chords. Hey, man, you gotta stay up about your mama. Stay by your mom.
Nova
Because he tried eating my. He tried eating my, like, charger cord, and I was like. Like, Oliver,
Ty
Noah. Oh, my gosh. I know. They ate chords. Oh, you just didn't know he got it.
Nova
I. I didn't know that he had.
Ty
Yeah, they're little. The little. Little scavengers. He's distracting me because he's crawling around you like crazy. He wants to go today. He's a mover. Oh, wow. Okay. So anyway, back to what we're. This is what happened. If you didn't know. This is how me and Nova's conversations usually go. They're like, we talk about one thing and it moves to another, and then we get all. We're all over the place.
Sponsor Voice
Yeah.
Ty
Okay. But back to what I was saying. So obviously we're not in front of millions of people right now. Yeah, but you know that eventually we're going.
Nova
Eventually we will be.
Ty
Yeah, but does it. Being in front of millions of people, does that, like. What does that feel like for you?
Nova
Um, it feels kind of cool.
Ty
Okay. Why does it feel cool?
Nova
It's just that I've just never had. Well, I know people watch the show, but on a different note, like, on a podcast where it's actually live and you don't have to, like, redo the scene multiple, multiple, multiple times.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
So it's kind of like, whoa.
Ty
Well, yeah, I guess podcast a little different than, like. Because I'm. You know, when the crew is here, me and mom don't have control. What's. What they choose to put on tv. We just sit there and we film and we talk, and that's what we do. So I think with this a little different because we're like, we can talk about. We want to talk about. You know, I mean, would you rather, like. Because the one thing about it being in front of millions of people is like, oh, it's different. But at the same time, you have such opportunities to, like, share stories, maybe connect with people. I think that's One thing that's really cool that me and mom, like, is that we get to hear people say, like, oh, wow, I didn't know about this or that. And you guys really inspired me and this and that. So I think that that's a cool part. But I mean, I get it. It's, it's, you know, it's different. It's different. But, but you've been around cameras your
Nova
whole life, so I feel like it's not too different.
Ty
Right. And we also don't really watch the show. We never watch the show.
Nova
So, so it's kind of like I, I, I've always wanted to see at least one episode.
Ty
You do?
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
Which. Oh, really? Like just a random episode. Any specific episode?
Nova
I don't know.
Ty
Like what, what kind of episode? A random one, maybe.
Nova
Maybe just a random one.
Ty
Because, like, what I'm trying to think, though, you're 11, so what do you think is like a right age to watch an episode?
Nova
An episode? I really, I've never watched the show before.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
So I don't really know what, like, to say.
Ty
Anyway, so listen, so since you and mom did this episode, I thought, what about me and you?
Nova
Like, yeah, I think, I mean, look at that, man. Yeah.
Ty
And I know I got some great questions that I know from the viewers. Yeah. From people who are just like, you know, me and mom asked people like, hey, what would you, you know, what are they interested in? Right. So I feel like some of these are really good. Oh, first question. How long have you had your bearded dragon? And how did you come up with
Nova
his name for Mochi? I really didn't know if I was going to get a girl or boy, but I was leaning towards boy. And I kind of just felt like Mochi would be a perfect name for any type of bearded dragon.
Ty
That's true.
Nova
So I just. And yeah, I've had him for close to two years.
Ty
Yep.
Nova
And yeah, he's just your baby.
Ty
I mean, you saved up all your money. You saved up a lot of money.
Nova
Except my mom did help me a lot by buying me the cage.
Ty
No. She did. Yeah.
Nova
It's like the most expensive thing. I think his cage was like over $500. So it was a little bit.
Ty
Yeah. But you saved up all the other money, so, I mean, you did it. And what made you want to get a bearded dragon?
Nova
Me?
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
I don't know. I didn't even know bearded dragons existed.
Ty
Oh, really? So how did you find out. Find out about them?
Nova
I found out about them. Okay. So my, I was about to get a turtle, because, remember, I rescued those two turtles. I'm like, oh, my God, I want a turtle. We went on the website. There was this really pretty turtle. Like, I think it was a full doll, and it was a paint turtle.
Ty
And then it was a full doll. Oh.
Nova
Below it was a bearded dragon.
Ty
Oh.
Nova
And I was like, that's so cool. So my mind just kind of switched on, and I was like, I had no idea these were real. So I searched up on, like, Google and stuff, and they said they were a popular pet. Like, a really popular pet for, like, reptile enthusiasts.
Ty
Oh, is that what you are? A reptile enthusiast?
Nova
I wouldn't say that, but I just.
Ty
Well, you have mochi. He's a bearded dragon. You have. You have a lemon. Lemon. A gecko.
Nova
And one of my friends have a tree monitor.
Ty
What's that? That's a tree monitor.
Nova
A tree monitor. They come in really different breeds. Usually tree monitors are, like, basically monitors that just climb on trees.
Ty
Are they bigger or smaller than a bearded dragon?
Nova
They can be various of sizes.
Ty
Oh, really?
Nova
Like, different types of monitors. So there is a type of monitor that's about this size. There's another one that's about this big.
Ty
Oh, okay.
Nova
And then another one. Then there's another one that is very close to, like, the size of almost like. You know, those, like, Maine coons.
Ty
Oh, yeah, there's.
Nova
There's those type of monitors.
Ty
A lizard. Bigger than. As big as a Maine coon?
Nova
Yes.
Ty
What?
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
That People have them as pets?
Sponsor Voice
Yep.
Ty
Whoa. Whoa.
Nova
Yeah. Yeah. You need, like, a whole entire spare room for them.
Ty
You would need a whole lot. That's insane. And they eat the same stuff, like, as these guys? Yeah.
Nova
Oh, no, they eat smaller. Rats. They eat rats.
Ty
So what do they. I'm looking it up. What is a monitor? A tree monitor. I have to see what these look like now. Oh, my. No. But that's a huge lizard.
Nova
Show it. Show it. Show to the camera what?
Ty
I have no tree monitor.
Nova
Can I see it?
Sponsor Voice
Oh, yeah.
Nova
They can come in very different sizes. They can come in blue.
Ty
People have these in their house.
Nova
Yeah, they can come in blue. They can come in, like, red. No, they can come in green.
Ty
All right, that's crazy.
Nova
But that's only one type of breed.
Ty
Oh, there's. So they get bigger than that or they get bigger than that.
Nova
Oh, that's the smallest type of.
Ty
Oh, my. All right. Wow.
Nova
So the lizard look bigger than it actually is. Search it up. Like a size reference. Like a size. Like, how big is Like a tree monitor. Like how big is like a tree monitor?
Ty
Oh, I see. Like go to scale. Like look at like.
Nova
Okay, like a human hand.
Ty
Oh, I see. Okay. All right. So they're kind of smaller than what you thought. Yeah, yeah, it looked, it looked, it looked crazy.
Nova
But there's also skinks. What the heck is that?
Ty
What did you say? Say it again. What is it called?
Nova
There's skinks. Skinks that get massive.
Ty
And that's a reptile.
Nova
It's a reptile.
Ty
No. I mess around on a big old reptile, scares me.
Nova
It's like the size of like a normal person's torso.
Ty
No, listen, this is where me and you were different. I, I'm like big old lizards. I was like, ah, yeah.
Nova
My friend, my friend has a baby tree monitor, right. I think it's a green colored and she's doing really good with it. She showed me a couple pictures and she didn't really tell me what they usually eat, but like bigger. Like bigger. Bigger. I mean bigger, bigger ones usually eat smaller. Lizards, mice, and sometimes they can eat like little baby snakes.
Ty
I can't, I just can't be feeding it a mice is like crazy.
Nova
Oh yeah, they eat live mice too. So if you wanna. Bearded dragons eat mice. They can eat mice. Yeah, there's this one guy on. Yeah, there's this one guy on YouTube that like feeds his bearded dragon mice. And his bearded dragon. He's healthy and he's really.
Ty
I did not. I never knew that they could eat mice. Oh yeah, Especially see, learning something new every day. See, teach me stuff all the time.
Nova
Especially in the my wild when there's more mice than like normal, like food, like mealworms and stuff.
Ty
Oh, okay.
Nova
Because yeah, National Geographic, they have this one episode where they like basically find a bearded dragon catching a mice and
Ty
it was like, wow, that's crazy.
Nova
They can also eat small frogs.
Ty
So a reptile eating the amphibian.
Nova
Yep.
Ty
Dang. Well, I'm kind of glad then. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm glad we don't have to feed him live mice. Yeah, that'd be a little crazy. Imagine how Vadel would think, oh my God.
Nova
Shoot sho. Shoot. No, the mice. He's. Yeah, there he goes.

Ty
So how do you. How do you think about school? What's going on with school? Because listen, now listen. We had parent teacher conferences just a couple days ago and you didn't even tell me. You didn't even tell me that you scored off of the scale of reading. Do you know that what that means? Your teacher told me.
Nova
She said I can't. Like I, like she monitored it.
Ty
No, you didn't tell me that. No, like listen, yeah, pretty much like you. There's a scale, right? She said there's a score that you get on a reading test and reading and writing tests, whatever. And so she said that the highest score you can get is 800. And then if you get above an 800, it's 800 plus. She said you got an 800 plus which. And she's like, listen, that means that she's above eighth grade, ninth grade. She's going in like you're. It could be. You could be reading and writing at a level in high school and you're just started fifth grade. You didn't even tell me that. And then she said and in.
Nova
In.
Ty
Did she tell you that? Did you know about that before? I knew about that. So you found that out at parent your conferences just like I did.
Nova
I found it out like a day before parent teacher.
Ty
And what did she say? Like, why didn't you. What.
Nova
She, she just gave me a lot of praise and she was like, you're doing such a good job. I'm so proud of you.
Ty
And you didn't. I asked you what I always ask you every day after school. How did school go? Anything happen at school today? Yeah. All right. You didn't see good dimension. Hey, by the way, I'm reading it above a high school grade level. I'm only fifth grade. That would have been something cool.
Nova
You could tell me third and Third grade. I was reading at a sixth grade level and it's kind of weird.
Ty
So that's crazy. I mean, that's really good, Nova. And she also said there's a. What was the score? 208 is a normal score.
Nova
2, 209 is a normal score. And I got 220.
Ty
Okay. Dude, you're above, above and beyond. That's amazing. Because you're smart, though. I mean, I wouldn't say you're bad at math.
Nova
It's just that I bombed that test.
Ty
It's just that one test. I mean, listen, but like, I remember how I told you you didn't know that, like, because you're. All your assignments are 100, 199, 95, 80, whatever. And so. But the test just bring up there's so much of your total score. So you could get like. Like I said, you could get 20, 15 assignments, A pluses and then get like 20 on a test and your. It drops your overall grade. So you almost have to do like every time you get a 1F, you gotta do 10A plus assignments in order to balance out the percentage in your grade. So math. And you're already rising. You keep. You just bomb one test. I mean, it happens. It's life, right? But I. I don't. I mean, I wasn't really good at math.
Nova
And the social studies teacher first, I think there was a. She said that there was a glitch in, like, the system where, like, the grades just, like, dropped. Where the grades just, like, dropped out
Ty
of nowhere because they had to redo the system. I don't know how. I think the system's a little weird nowadays.
Nova
All of a sudden, like, one day, but, like, one day, you know, there was like a glitch and like, the Internet and stuff, like the WI FI and stuff. And all. All the students grade, like half the school had like, zero
Ty
freaking out.
Adam Rippon
Yeah.
Ty
That's funny. That's all right, though. It's fine. It's just the system that's. Yeah. In the system. He wants to jump. He wants to get off the chair. Yeah. But no, I want to say you're. I'm so proud of you. You are doing so good in school. Are you proud of yourself?
Nova
For myself, yeah.
Ty
You're proud of yourself?
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
That you're reading and writing at such a high level. Yeah, dude, I'm.
Nova
I'm all. I got. I got super happy about it. So one day I just like, what if I write a book? You know, I know that computer. Yeah.
Ty
And you did. Where's the book.
Nova
The book. I haven't.
Ty
I think you should let see because you, when you read the book, I can tell that when you're reading it to me, you're like, yeah, like you're, you're reading it to me like, because you wrote it yourself. So you almost like, know, like, you know what I mean? You're reading it so much over and over again. You kind of just get like you're going through it. I think you should let me read it to you so you can hear it through the reader's perspective.
Nova
And also I took a grandma's feedback when she.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
I don't really understand, like, who these characters are. So then I put in more detailed, like, entries like. Yeah.
Ty
Which is cool. Listen, all I'm saying is I don't think a lot of 11 year olds are spending their spare time writing books. That's all I'm saying. It's pretty incredible, in my opinion.
Nova
I like that he's just chilling now. Instead of jumping on my forehead, you should.
Ty
Will you let me do it? Can I read, Can I read like a, like a little bit of it? Yeah. Let me read the first page to you and see if you feel any different. All right, we'll go grab it. Where's that?
Nova
Millions of people.
Ty
Oh, you know. Okay. That's why I asked, what do you want? Read the, the page. Let me read the page to you instead of you. Because you read the page to me and you go fast.
Nova
It's just because I get really nervous.
Ty
Why do you get nervous? Tell me about it.
Nova
It's just because, like, I don't know if, like, I really don't know why I'm nervous. I just really would just want to get through it because I'm over. I basically read it 15 times.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Like, oh, what are you doing on your computer? I'm doing a book about like, based off this and that.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
They were like, oh, can you read like a little bit of it to me? I'm like, sure.
Ty
Do you not like reading it?
Nova
Oh, no, I enjoy reading it. Especially from like. It's just that when I'm reading it to somebody, I kind of stumble over my words because I'm like, I remember when I was reading it to grandma, I was stumbling over like a little sentence.
Ty
I was like, it's because you wrote it. I know how that is. When you write, you, you, you have read that sentence so many times in your own head that by the time you get to it, you're like, just going through it.
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
All Right. Well, if you don't want to read it. If you don't want me to read a page to you, can you at least tell, like, what is the book about?
Nova
The book is based off something, a warrior, a series that I really love. And I don't really think of publishing the book. I just kind of want to keep it to myself.
Ty
Yeah. Yeah, I love it.
Nova
It's based off Aaron Hunter's warrior cat series.
Ty
Oh.
Nova
Instead I just made my own clans and just kind of set that down like the little. And then I just mix things up.
Ty
So you pretty much, like, are getting inspiration from.
Nova
I got inspiration, yeah. From Aaron Hunter's warrior cat series.
Ty
Awesome. I never heard of it before.
Nova
No.
Ty
But when you're reading it to me, I thought it was really good.
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
Yeah, I loved it.
Nova
I tried being descriptive when I like.
Ty
It's really good. Very good. Very descriptive. Yeah.
Nova
There's this one part where I was kind of figuring out how to like, explain, like, nervousness.
Ty
Oh, okay.
Nova
I. That. That's when I use Google for like, what are other words for nervous?
Ty
Oh, okay. That makes sense.
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Really? The one word that I really used. But yeah, but I was thinking of putting pretty and then I was like, it's not really like. So I. Then instead I put ravishing.
Ty
Oh, nice. That makes sense. Yeah, yeah. Different words. Yeah, it makes sense. He's gonna. There he goes. Off the chair. No. Are you sure you don't want to put him in his cage? Okay.
Nova
I love you. Stop it.
Ty
He's going crazy.
Nova
I know. We got off topic.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
I'm so sorry.
Ty
Oh, here you go. What are Nova's thoughts on social media for kids?
Nova
Social media, Really? I do. I spent on social media sometimes. And in my opinion, I feel like, you know how you took away. Okay. Before you took.
Ty
Yeah. What social media? You're not on any social media.
Nova
Well, my Chromebook I am.
Ty
Yeah, but it's. What social media are you talking about?
Nova
Like, this little game that my teacher like, usually puts.
Ty
No. Okay. Yeah, that's not social media. Social media is like, like. Okay, how do I explain social. So social media is pretty much like, stop licking my. Like, Facebook is a social media.
Sponsor Voice
Okay.
Ty
Like, Instagram is a. Is Snapchat a type of social media?
Nova
I have to say, I think. Is YouTube a social media?
Ty
Kind of. A little bit more videos.
Nova
I have to say social media, I feel like they should add more barriers for like underage kids. Like, yeah, there's a lot of underage, under aged kids in Snapchat and Twitter. Oh, yeah, a lot. Even autumn is on there, so. Well, sorry.
Ty
No, it's okay. They'll edit out, but. So wait, so kids in your grade or your age are on Snapchat?
Nova
Yes. I have to say, after you took
Ty
the tablets away, I took away Veda
Nova
and Raya's tablets away. They seem 10 times happier. They were just. And the playroom got messier.
Ty
Yeah. Yeah, it did.
Nova
And I feel like that's awesome.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Because I don't want to be mean or anything, but in like, half of my life, until I was like, five or eight, you took away my tablet.
Ty
Yeah, well, actually, we took away your tablet when you were. Let's see your. We took it away right before turned one.
Nova
So I was probably, like, around seven years.
Ty
Yeah, you just turned. Yeah. You were at six. Yep. You're right. Yeah. So. But remember, we had timers on it before.
Nova
Yeah, timers on it.
Ty
But.
Nova
But my mom just kept sulking in
Ty
and she was just putting it. You would, like, oh, you know, pick up the. Pick up your room and you get. You know, I mean, we did things that were kind of like, you could work to get more timers if you wanted. Yeah, but how do you feel like, like, so obviously, kids, do you feel like you're different or something in your school? Obviously, all your friends have Snapchat and they're on. They have their own phones. They're on social media. Do you feel like you're, like. What do you feel about that?
Nova
I feel like I. I don't feel like I'm left out.
Ty
Okay, good. That's good. I'm glad.
Nova
Because on. I'm kind of glad I don't have those social medias because Harper, she has Twitter, but she deleted it after an incident that happened that I'm not really gonna explain.
Ty
Yeah, that's good.
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
Oh, she deleted it.
Nova
She deleted it.
Ty
Yeah. So you. You think as far as, like, kids on social media, there should be more barriers?
Nova
There should definitely be more barriers. Like. Oh, before you chat to this person, tell me, like, your age or something.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
So then the person that wants to talk to this person is, like, the same age.
Ty
Right? Right.
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
So how old do you think? What's a good age that you think they should.
Nova
Social media.
Ty
What age do you think we should let kids have social media?
Nova
16 and above.
Ty
Oh, okay. I think. Hey, listen, I think that's pretty fair. So you're 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16. Five more years.
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
And you might not even want it by then.
Nova
I feel like I'm Happier with the
Ty
animation apps and the animation apps. Yeah. I mean, honestly. Yeah. I will say, like, when your friends come over who have phones and yeah,
Nova
I kind of get bored because then
Ty
they're just like, I can tell you do. And then you go on your animation
Nova
thing and then they all of a sudden want to go somewhere.
Ty
Yeah. When you're on your animation thing, I noticed that. I'm like, yeah, you want to go outside? Like, well, I asked you like five minutes ago, you didn't want to. Now I'm on my animation app and now you want to go. I mean, yeah.
Nova
But yeah, Harper, I have to say, she. After she deleted Twitter, she. She wasn't on her phone that much.
Ty
So that's good. Yeah. So I was curious. I'm like, you know, I know obviously, you know, your phone's not like other kids phones. You just use it for like, I
Nova
use it for, like, emergencies.
Ty
Yeah. Or if you're contacting grandma and stuff like that.
Nova
Contacting people that.
Ty
Yeah. And do you think mom and dad. I mean, because we obviously didn't put nothing on your phone. So do you think that's good or do you think that's amazing? Okay. All right. I mean, I just wanted to make sure you don't feel left out because
Nova
I have to say, when you took it away from me for like the first time, I was going cuckoo because I was like, yeah.

And, you know, I try to think back to it and was there really a time where she was just taking care of just herself? It was probably far and in between. I really wish that she could. Could have created balance for herself and set healthy boundaries and just had support for her well being because, man, my grandma has done so much for everybody in her life. Nova
My thing that keeps me happy is gone.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
So. But now after that, I got way much more used to it, and I'm like, oh, yeah, whatever.
Ty
I mean, I'll say. I think. I think you've done. I think you did really good when we took the tablets away because. Yeah, because out of Vader and Raya, you had the longest. You know, after five, it was like. That's when we were like, all right, we gotta do something different, you know,
Nova
because I was on there soaking in the couch every single hour, every single day.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Even in the morning when in school,
Ty
you actually really use all your timers. Like, you really. You use a lot of timers. And then you'd be like, mom, can I have another timer? Can I have another timer? And then it got to a point where I was like, all right, I think mom, do something. I think mom and dad realized that by the time before. Before riot turned one, we were like, all right, we want them to have a different kind of environment. So. But I also didn't want to, like, you know, I don't want to introduce
Nova
the tablets back to.
Ty
To you with timers.
Nova
To me with timers.
Ty
Then Vade and rye get it when we travel, which I think is. What do you think about that? You think it's fair?
Nova
That's fair.
Ty
Yeah. Because we're just traveling, right?
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
We're in a car, in planes for a long time.
Nova
Yeah. Yeah.
Ty
So I figure, why not let them use it then, right? Yeah. But even now, your timer on your. On your tablet, you. You do really well with it. Yeah, I mean, I think so because you're. You're on there.
Nova
You know, I'm there basically 20 of
Ty
the day, and you're creating stuff with it. You're drawing, you're animating. And so.
Nova
And then when my timer goes off, I kind of just click it off and I'm like, yeah, what do I do now?
Ty
Yeah, I feel like stay up in
Nova
my room and sketch or. Yeah, let's do something with mochi. Or.
Ty
I think it would be different if you use the timer or you use a tablet, like go on YouTube. And so, like, that. I think me and my would probably be a little bit more like, no, but the fact that you're on the tablet and just doing, like, art stuff, I feel like, what's, What's. Yeah, what's the harm? And plus, I love seeing your animations. You're so good at it. Yeah. I mean, it's awesome. You're. You're. You're. You're animating animals running and, and jumping and stuff. It's. It's crazy.
Nova
I just finished this and. Well, I haven't finished it, but it's just a rough draft of a fox diving into to the snow, so it's like.
Ty
Yeah, I love it. Yeah. So I feel like, you know, I just wanted to ask about that because I thought it was interesting about how a lot of kids your age have social media and you don't. And.
Nova
And I feel like I don't because I have a lot of friends that get really creepy. People texting them on Twitter or Snapchat. Like, oh, this actually happened once. I'm not gonna say any names, but there's this one guy that was like, he. He was like a really creepy dude. Like, text. I think he.
Ty
On Snapchat.
Nova
On Snapchat. He just kept sending snaps of this, like, old guy to one of my friends that he specifically knew was younger than him. So.
Ty
Oh, the. An old guy was just snapping, like,
Nova
really pics of himself of himself.
Ty
Okay.
Nova
One of my friends.
Ty
Okay.
Nova
And my friend, I could tell, she was really like, okay, I don't like this.
Ty
Right.
Nova
Yeah. So he just kept doing it and doing it over and over again.
Ty
Okay.
Nova
And then I asked my friend, like, I think you should just block him and just get away from it. Yeah. So.
Ty
Okay, so in this. When did this happen?
Nova
This happened? Oh, that. A couple months ago.
Ty
Okay. And does. Does this friend's parents know she has Snapchat? Yes, they do. Yes.
Nova
But I've noticed that her parents haven't been letting her bring her, like, phone to, like, important events now. Or, like, okay, bringing her phone. Like, she. I noticed that her parents added a timer.
Ty
Oh, okay. So do you think that that instance right there, do you think that her
Nova
parents should know that that happens?
Ty
That, like, you know she's on Snapchat? I mean. Yeah, because I feel like. Okay, like, obviously her parents know she's on Snapchat, but, like, they might not know that. That people are. Yeah. So. Okay. I just wanted to. I'm just curious. You're telling me that my. Go. Okay, let's see. We got so many your.
Nova
I have so many questions. Jeez. You guys love me. I'm joking. I'm joking. I'm joking. I'm joking. I'm joking.
Ty
Let's see.
Nova
Motorman is surprisingly chill. Come here, baby. Oh, I love you. Hi.
Ty
Oh, here we go. What is your favorite thing about your relationship with your mom and with your dad?
Nova
Really? Everything that happens is my favorite. Like just doing this with you, it just brings me so much joy and happiness with mom. Just by being around you guys.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
I'm just so happy. I can't really explain it because it's just like. It just brings me so much joy. It kind of just slips off my head. Why?
Ty
Yeah, well, because you're just.
Nova
Why?
Ty
You're just embracing it all.
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
Yeah. That's awesome. That's good. I'm glad. Well, I'd hope so. I mean, geez. That you like spending time. But we talk a lot, you know? We do. I feel like we talk and we have good talks and some people think that, you know, some people will say that maybe we talk about stuff that you're too young for. But I don't know, I mean, I don't think so.
Nova
I get really curious and things. New answer.
Ty
I mean, that's. And that's kind of how I, I think I like to do it. Because if I'm not gonna come out and talk to you about certain stuff, if you're not ready to talk about it or you don't want to talk about it. So if you are curious about something and you ask me and then that's when we'll talk about it. I feel like we've done a, you know, it's worked out so far. What do you think?
Nova
I think it's worked out a lot.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Like. Oh, I'm curious of how, like what happened to the Boston Massacre. You're told. You told me a lot.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
And I think it's. Yeah.
Ty
So if you're curious, you can ask. Yeah, that's right.
Nova
I feel lots of freedom.
Ty
Doing good. That's good. I want you to have freedom, but I also want you to be safe, so.
Nova
Oh, yeah.
Ty
So I. I want, you know, I want it to be. I want you to feel safe enough that you can talk to me and your mom about anything. You know, it's bothering you or exciting or life changing or whatever. So that's why we talk a lot. And some people are like, oh, you know, talk. I'm saying, ah, I don't think so. I think you're really smart. I think you, you listen, you're curious, you absorb and you reflect and you Ask. And that's how you get smarter. That's how you learn, right? Yeah.
Nova
Like, so when I was learning how to draw people, it's almost like it kind of just absorbed in my mind. It's like, oh, really? I didn't really watch too much tutorials. I watched. Basically, you taught me most of it. Like. Oh, a woman's body is usually almost like a vase.
Ty
Yeah. Like an hourglass.
Nova
Yeah, yeah, like an hourglass. And that really helped me a lot because I drew the torso of like, a circle shape.
Ty
Oh, okay.
Nova
And he went down and drew the hips as, like, I do, like, two circles on the side.
Ty
Okay.
Nova
And then I drew the guidelines for the legs.
Ty
Oh, nice.
Nova
And then I connect the hips to the legs and kind of just add, like, the muscles.
Ty
That makes sense. Yeah, yeah. And then guys, like upside down triangles.
Nova
Yeah, yeah. Basically.
Sponsor Voice
Yeah.
Ty
You know, that's the shape.
Sponsor Voice
Yeah, yeah.
Ty
And you're really good at drawing. Really good. What's your, what's your favorite part about school?
Nova
My favorite part? Oof. Probably the friends.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
People that you learn with and the people that you. Also the subjects. Sometimes I can love the subjects.
Ty
I mean, that makes sense because I felt the same way when I was a kid, so.
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
Yeah. But I didn't get, I didn't do as good in school as you did.
Nova
Really? I'm surprised.
Ty
Why?
Nova
I don't know. I just think you're really smart at this age, and I feel like, oh, gosh, no.
Ty
But I don't, I mean, I, I, I, I don't know how to explain it. I, When I, the work that I did in school, I got good grades on it. You know, I got good grades when I was there, but it was more of the behavior stuff that was good for me. So I was not very respectful to teachers. I challenge a lot of things and got in trouble.
Nova
I challenge things that I'm curious about.
Ty
Yeah. But I think you, you're better than me. You challenge, you challenge in more.
Nova
I tried doing it in a respectful way towards the teachers. I just had a voice crack. Yeah. I tried doing it. Like, I wouldn't say. I really. I, I stand up for things that I believe in.
Ty
You do.
Nova
And that if they give me, I don't want to see a believable enough answer in my eyes, but more of curiosity that I think of. So it's almost like, oh, the teacher says, oh, you can't have, like, you can't clean your glasses in the middle of class. You know, it distracts you. I'm like, why? Yeah, I just say why, like really respectfully.
Ty
Yeah, why?
Nova
And I usually get in trouble because of it. Because they think I'm talking back.
Ty
Even though you're asking why?
Nova
I'm asking why.
Ty
So that's why. I think you have a way of sticking up for yourself and kind of challenging it in a more. In a way that people listen more. Me, it was. They didn't listen to me very much because I think I was just obnoxious about it. I wasn't as smart. I kind of was just like, ah, you know what I mean?
Nova
And then why can't I not choose two? Glass. Yeah, I mean, what?
Ty
Clean, clean glass. Your glasses.
Nova
Why can I not shoot gum in class?
Ty
Oh, okay, here we go.
Nova
I said glass.
Ty
Yeah, you did.
Nova
See, I have brain farts.
Ty
Let's see.
Nova
Mochi's following my leg like a weirdo.
Ty
Oh, here's a good. This is kind of a nice one, I thought. Do you have any advice on how to stay close with my 8 year old daughter while she is preteening?
Nova
Okay, so it kind of depends. I'm like, really? I feel like you guys do a good job with me. I feel like the advice that I would give in my eyes, I would say probably be more patient with them. Maybe be more. A little bit more understanding. Be firm when you need to though.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Because I feel like if you soften it up a little too much, they can be like, oh, I can do this. This is fine. I won't get in trouble.
Ty
Oh, okay. Yeah.
Nova
And I'm saying this for me.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Because you guys really sucked on me in the first and I was like, oh, I can do this. I don't get in too much. Big of a trouble. But now, but now when you guys are a little bit more firmer with me, I'm like, okay, I can't do this, I'll get in trouble. Blah, blah, blah.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
So I feel like, be a little bit soft on like the important things. Like let's say they're having mood swings. Maybe be more patient with that. Be more soft with that.
Ty
Right.
Nova
When they're doing something that's dangerous or they're doing something that's not needed or they're doing something that's like reckless or reckless. Or like let's say, oh, I kissed a boy at school or something. And then maybe you should be a little bit more firm about that and say, okay, you shouldn't be doing this at this age. Maybe try it. Maybe try it when you're 16. I understand that you love Him. But you can't really be doing that. It can give you different things going on with your, like, you know, it could. Yeah.
Ty
So you say be more. A little more firm when it needs.
Nova
We need to be more firm when it needs to be soft, softer. When.
Ty
When she's, like, going through maybe, like, emotions or, like. Yeah, she's going. Emotion. Yeah, that makes sense.
Nova
Yeah, because, like, be more firm with it. With things that are, like, dangerous.
Ty
Yeah, dangerous. That makes sense.
Nova
Let's say, oh, I kissed a boy.
Ty
Or you think kissing a boy is dangerous? What do you think kissing a boy is dangerous?
Nova
Well, I can give you multiple diseases. I can tell them out right now, but I'm not gonna say those.
Ty
I get it. We said that. Well, we. When we were younger, it was like, everyone's like, mono is a thing. But anyway. Yeah, that's what it just reminded me of when you said that.

Ty
hey, kissing.
Nova
Kissing. A guy at A very young age could give you type of diseases.
Ty
Okay, so. Well, that brings up a good question. When do you think it's okay for, like, you know, when do you think it's okay for kids to, like, have a boyfriend or girlfriend or whatever?
Nova
Boyfriend or girlfriend?
Ty
Yeah, like, when do you think it's
Nova
like, I have to say no kissing. When you're at a very young age. No, like physical, weird touch. Yeah, like holding hands, hugging.
Ty
That's like, in it. That's like in. Okay, that makes sense. Not innocent. I get what you're saying, but like,
Nova
more like, oh, yeah, these are fun. Fine. Like, I have to say, maybe not when you're five.
Ty
Yeah, right.
Nova
Yeah, maybe like when you turn like, eight.
Ty
Okay.
Nova
Eight through 11 is a. Eight and above is a good time. So I wouldn't say really.
Ty
I get what you're saying. I think, like, 8 and above is probably, like, innocent. Boyfriend, girlfriend. Oh, I like you. Like me, whatever. Yeah, okay, that makes sense. I get it.
Nova
But over the age. I have to say, over the age of 16, like, maybe like 17, 18, you guys can go into more, like, physical touches or like, when you get.
Ty
Appropriate. Appropriate, yeah, it makes sense. I get it.
Nova
It's like 17, 19, like, you can. Yeah.
Ty
Yeah. Okay, so what is your biggest dream? If you could just close your eyes for one second. All right, like, what is my biggest dream right now?
Nova
My biggest dream. It might be a little bit funny, but my biggest dream is to have. I really do want a family when I go. Even though I really want to have family when I get over older or be a reptile enthusiast and, like, just study reptiles and. And get reptiles and. Yeah, so those are my two biggest dreams right now.
Ty
So your biggest dreams right now are to have a family and be a reptile also? My biggest.
Nova
My biggest dream for the future. This might be a little bit weird, but I really do think that people should give people with less money. People with more money than them can give them. Like, they might have to, like, you know, like. Or maybe the government could, like, send out, like, little houses for, like, poor people that can, like, pay the expenses. Because I have to say, like, the government and the president get a lot of money from taxes.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
I mean, billions.
Ty
Are you just learning about that in school or something? Are you learning about that in school?
Nova
No, it's just that I'm saying they get, like, billions of taxes, like, every year.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Well, put those taxes in, like, you know, like, communities, but also people that are struggling, let's say, food hunger, maybe, like, send out, like, make a new job that's like, oh, this guy can, like, get $15 an hour feeding. Feeding people out in the streets.
Ty
Oh, you're saying create a job of. Create a job of, like, pay this person. Person who needs help to actually help other people and give them. Oh, that makes sense. Yeah.
Nova
And then maybe the government could, like, build, like, little houses, like, near neighborhoods or cities that poor people can live in. So I think that would be a dream. That would be a really cool dream.
Ty
Yeah, that's a good dream. I think I. I think it's really smart. You know, other countries have a lot of different ways of helping people. Yeah. And they do pay more. They do pay more taxes. You're right. So more. I mean, mean, you know, the government does get taxes, right. I mean, they get taxes, but. But they get the taxes for one reason. The reason is to help the majority of people. And so, you know, that's how we have. That's how we have libraries and roads and, you know, things that our society can use and benefit from.
Nova
So that little thing could help billions of people.
Ty
Yeah, yeah. No, I. I told. I think it's a great dream.
Nova
We have 300 billion people in our earth. Close to 300 billion, maybe 700. And I feel like just helping that little percent will just make people happier.
Ty
Yeah. Well, because a lot of. I mean, there's a small percentage that have a lot of money. They own a lot of wealth.
Nova
So, like, the richest person in the world.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Maybe they could just give some money to the people that are in need.
Ty
Yeah. Or just maybe take only what you need and then give the rest to, like, help other people.
Nova
Yeah. Give what you only need for, like, new buildings. New.
Ty
Yeah. Because do you. Do you believe that? It brings up a good question. Do you believe that. Do you believe that everybody that is born on this earth deserve to have food, water, shelter.
Nova
Yes.
Ty
Medicine.
Nova
It's very important for a person to have the stoves, little things.
Ty
Yeah. Like, no matter what.
Nova
A lot of people, Whatever it is.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Like maybe a disability, People that can't hear, people that can't see, people that can't. Like, people that can't walk. Like, all types of things could help a lot of people. Those, Those shelter, food, water and medicine, those important four things could help billions of people and they still do today.
Ty
Do you think that people that. You think no matter who that person is, they deserve to have all those four. Four things? Like, no matter where they're born, no matter who they, you know, no matter who they are, they deserve to have those things.
Nova
To have those things.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Even people that were bad in their past life, maybe they came out of the jail, maybe they got. After they got in the jail, they got paralyzed in a fight or something. Then I feel like, well, that's crazy.
Ty
Paralyzed in jail, makeup. That'd be a crazy experience. Yeah.
Nova
So then I feel like people that. I wouldn't say in danger, but people that struggle. I feel like those four things could just help them get to get them back on their feet.
Ty
Yeah. So in a way, you don't think that people, like, we shouldn't have homeless people or people that are starving.
Nova
Have homeless people or people starving or
Ty
like, you know, or people that are dying of sickness that can have. Yeah, I get it.
Nova
It makes no sense in my opinion, because we're all human beings and we all need those four things. Things. It's only, oh, you don't have money, so you can't have this. It's. It's kind of like greed. That's what I'm just.
Ty
Yeah, I mean, I, I agree. It does sound like greed when you say it like that. Yeah. Because there are people. We have, we have enough money, enough food, enough medicine for people, for other
Nova
people, but in that small percentage. But that. For that small percentage of people, somehow we don't have anything.
Ty
I know you're. Yeah, I, I, It's a great. You bring up a good. Yeah, that's a good point. Yes.
Nova
I. Oh, you can't have food because you don't have money. That means you can't. Like.
Ty
Yeah. Like, you don't think people should. I don't think they shouldn't be that rich. Maybe they should.
Nova
Like, I feel like rich people, even though it might sound harsh, I feel like rich people should at least give. Well, not like. Really?
Ty
You think they should share that?
Nova
Have a lot of money.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Should share it off to communities that help these people. That small percentage.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Percentage of people struggling with life.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
I feel like that would help billions.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
We. Half our population.
Ty
Yeah. Yeah, I agree. Yeah. Well, maybe we can. Maybe that dream can be a reality one day.
Nova
I hope so. You know, I have to say, it would help so many people because thousands of people die every day for the littlest reasons.
Ty
Right.
Nova
Having no medicine, having no shelter. Like that big, giant storm that went through.
Ty
Oh, yeah.
Nova
Wait, what was it?
Ty
The tornado.
Nova
The tornado?
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
It killed thousands of people just because they didn't have shelter.
Ty
Oh, you're talking about the. Not the tornado. You're talking about the blizzard that went Through. Oh, geez.
Nova
I'm talking about a blizzard.
Ty
It was a blizzard or tsunami.
Nova
It was a blizzard.
Ty
Oh, a blizzard. I don't know what you're talking about.
Nova
I remember when, like, there's, like, really deep snow and like.
Ty
Oh, an avalanche. What are you. What are you talking about?
Nova
There was a blizzard on the news.
Ty
Oh, a blizzard on the news.
Nova
Maybe a blizzard passed through. Maybe thousands of people die just because they don't have. Have shelter. They don't have. They don't have a home.
Ty
Oh, maybe you're thinking of hurricane. I don't know what you're thinking.
Nova
I'm thinking of a blizzard.
Ty
I never heard of this before. Huh. I wonder what blizzard. Okay, and so. So, yeah, no, I agree with you, though. The blizzard came through natural. Natural causes of the earth, Mother Nature. And then. Yeah, they didn't have shelter. And they. Yeah, just.
Nova
That one thing could kill billions of people. That one little thing. Just shelter could kill billions of people.
Ty
If they don't have it.
Nova
Yeah, if they don't have it.
Ty
It. Yeah. I mean, you're right. And also, we have so much resources where we could build. We have little shelters.
Nova
Resources. I have to say me. We. We kind of have to lay off some of the resources for it to grow back.
Ty
No, Right, right. Like, don't waste.
Nova
Like. Like, don't waste it. Like, people buy coal for trains still.
Ty
You mean like renewable resources like we need to get. Yeah, yours. Because you remember. Hey, you want to. You won that award last year for your electrical cars.
Nova
Yes. They have acid in their batteries, but they don't spill out exhaust to the air.
Ty
Right, right, right.
Nova
And I feel like our air quality in Michigan kind of needs to get better.
Ty
Yeah. I think air quality around the whole. Probably the whole world. But, you know, I don't know if they know this, but you won an award last year for your design of a.
Nova
Of an electric car.
Ty
Electric.
Nova
Solar.
Ty
Solar powered car. And I have to say, and that was really cool. You know, only so many kids won that award through the whole school district, and you were one of them. I love that you're humble. You know what humble means?
Nova
Like, you can't speak because.
Ty
No, humble means, like, humble. Okay. How do you explain humility? Humility is like. Like, say, I found the cure to cancer. Right. That's just for an example. I. I just cured cancer. Everyone's like, oh, my gosh. You just cured cancer. How amazing. You're just more like, it's okay. It wasn't me. It was. You know, I had people help Me make the cure. And you're more humble. Like, you're like, you like, I try
Nova
giving like, you don't like, like that Warrior Cats like that series.
Ty
I'm gonna look up the definition so I don't mess it up. What does humble mean? But I feel like you are, you're humble. Having or showing modest estimate of one's value or importance. So you're, you're. It's the opposite of being arrogant. Like, like I said, I found.
Nova
Oh, yeah, I did run that.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
I only did it. I only did it.
Ty
That's arrogance. You're right. So humility and humble. Being humble is like, it's like, okay, thank you so much for your. Thank you for like telling me that I'm a good person. I did a good job. You know, I appreciate it. But, you know, but these are that big of a deal. Yeah. This person helped me. You're humble because you won that award. And I told you, I said there were so many kids in the school district and you were one of them. That's pretty big. And you're like, oh, yeah, okay, I got school. And I'm like, no, this is a huge deal. You designed a solar powered car. That's cool.
Nova
Yeah. It's still sitting on our family shelf.
Ty
Yeah. I'm always gonna keep that thing. I love. I'm very proud of it. That was an amazing, amazing accomplishment.
Nova
It's because one of my friends did tell me, like, oh, a solar color, A solar power car would be good in a solar.
Ty
Because there's so much solar powered things. And you're like, wait a minute, let's just put it on a car.
Nova
And there's barely. There's no solar power. Well, there is, but there's just not a lot.
Ty
Yeah, there could be more, right?
Nova
Definitely could be more.
Ty
Let's see. How long have you been into drawing art?
Nova
I forgot how many years. I started drawing when I was 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11. So I've been drawing for seven years and.
Ty
Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Dang. Kind of Long time now, huh? Yeah. How do you like drawing art?
Nova
Oh, I love it. And I'll never. And I'll will never quit it.
Ty
Yeah, that's for sure.
Nova
I got too far to just quit.
Ty
And you. And you do. You're so good at it. Yeah, I mean, it's great. What got you into drawing art?
Nova
I really don't know. I mean, when I was four, there's this very slight memory that I have in preschool. You know those like bright colored rooms I was Using these fun scissors. You know, the sponge is like the little zigzag patterns.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
I was drawing people with just circles and sticks and heads and people with those little weird ponytails. Their heads. Out of nowhere.
Ty
I don't know if I get. Yeah.
Nova
Out of nowhere.
Ty
And is that what. Like, what inspired you to start drawing?
Nova
I. That's a really big question, because I don't know.
Ty
I just was like, a whole bunch.
Nova
One day I just put down a paper and just started doing. Doing random things with it.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
I just kept doing it and doing it and doing it over the years, and I feel like. And I feel like I've came a long way to just quit now.
Ty
Yeah, you have. Yeah. You've come a long way. It's great. You're amazing at art. I think it's awesome.
Nova
I tried drawing mochi. It turned out looking like it.
Ty
You tried on mochi?
Nova
I tried drawing mochi in this exact same pose.
Ty
That's funny.
Nova
It turned out looking horrible. But, hey, we all learn.
Ty
Yeah. I mean, that's the whole thing about art, though, is. Right. Is like, you know, art. Thing about art is art can never be wrong. When you think about it, like, there's no way.
Nova
There's no wrong way to do art.
Ty
Art can never be wrong. It's. It's.
Nova
I'll give. I'll give my perspective out to the world like that. I will give my. I feel like a lot of beginner artists feel like, oh, this artist is really good, so I. I should just, like, copy them.
Ty
Oh, right.
Nova
We have to do this.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
And I. And I feel like if I was. If I was to speak to my past self, I would definitely say be more flexible with art. Don't be like. Don't be like, oh, I have to do this only because of one person do this.
Ty
Oh, you mean one person does, like, be more yourself. Don't take more risks. You know, Take more risks.
Nova
And really, there's no really big risks in art.
Ty
Yeah, right.
Nova
Just like flexing. Flexing your art style. Like, there's just one thing that I don't really like. Oh, you need to learn it to make it. Which means. Oh, you need to learn a real human anatomy before you can do this. And I think that's kind of wrong because then you will never really learn to do, like, flex. You'll never really.
Ty
You don't need to know the whole anatomy in order to draw it.
Nova
To draw it.
Ty
Yeah, you just draw it. Just learn. And you'll get better and better learn.
Nova
Because I hear A lot of that. Oh, you need to learn it, to draw it. Just like, oh, you need two. You actually need to learn the real life.
Ty
Well, yeah, because you think about it. You think about it and it's like, you know, I. I almost feel like. You almost need to feel more than you need to, like. Yeah. More than you need to know about it. You need to know certain stuff in order to. You don't need to learn art in order to do it. You just need to feel it in order to do it. And, like, look, you just did a product on. Who did you do a product on? The artist that you did a project on?
Nova
Evanga or Picasso? Flat himself out.
Ty
You did it on Picasso?
Nova
Yes.
Ty
And remember his story? His story was like, no one really liked his style at first. Yep. And then eventually.
Nova
But then when he died, he had so many art things that just came into, like, he's cold.
Ty
And so the thing about it is, is that he stayed true to himself, you know?
Nova
Stay true to himself and just kept.
Ty
He wasn't worried about, like, making mistakes. He was like, you know what? This is how. This is what I like.
Nova
This is how I love it.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
And now people love his art.
Ty
See? I know. Isn't that crazy?
Nova
You want to know something really funny?
Ty
What?
Nova
I did a Van Gogh book report about him, and I came up to the library. I was like, hey, can I, like, use this book for a book report? You know? And she's like, oh, yeah, of course. I'm like, what book report are you doing on it? And I was like, she. Our English language arts teacher just told us to do any book report. And she was like, oh, really? So are you doing, like, oh, I forgot what type of book report it's called when you. Oh, do a book report about someone.
Ty
Oh, a biography.
Nova
A biography.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Yes. And she was like, you know what? A lot of kids came up with me with that same book, but they changed it back because they said his art was inappropriate.
Ty
Really?
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
What? Whose art was inappropriate?
Nova
Van Gogh's art. And I feel like that's weird. Like. Yeah, I don't understand it.
Ty
What's your favorite subject in school?
Nova
My favorite subject?
Sponsor Voice
Art.
Nova
Is art a subject?
Ty
Yeah. Yeah.
Nova
I would say art, science, then ELA and social studies.
Ty
So you like a lot of subjects in school?
Nova
Yes, I do.
Ty
Yeah, you do. I mean, my favorite was definitely language arts and science when I was a kid.
Nova
Yeah, I love science. The science teacher is firm, but really, like, she really hypes people up.
Ty
Yeah, that's good.
Nova
She's like, okay, we're gonna do a lab today about looking through the microscopes to see the stars and, like, see the sun and, like, see all, like, the different clouds in the skies. And I was like, this is so much fun.
Ty
Yeah. Well, I set your telescope up outside the other day. The moon looked crazy the other day. It was awesome. Yeah, it looks great. Yeah. Get out there and look at it. Well, it's kind of been cold, though.
Nova
But I'm sorry. Emoji. He's like, I'm so comfy.
Ty
Yeah, he. Look at me. So about to fall asleep. And also, when we were up here at teacher conferences. I forgot. You also said your teacher mentioned how you're always talking to the kids who don't get talked to a lot.
Nova
Yes.
Ty
And you're always being nice and making friends with them, which I thought was really amazing.
Nova
And. Because I just feel like it. It only takes two to one person to change a person, to change someone's life.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Like, there's this one kid. I'm not gonna say his name, but he got teased a lot because he was sensitive to different things. And I thought that wasn't right because I was like, he's a human being. He's just a little bit different.
Ty
Yeah. Oh, Everyone thought he was different.
Nova
Everyone thought that he was different. They exiled him. They teased him just because he was special needs. He was special needs, and he. He was really sensitive to stuff like words and sound loud, sound almost like beta. And so I was like, it. It just kind of broke my heart.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Because there was one day, you know, six, seven.
Sponsor Voice
Yeah.
Nova
These kids were repeating it over and over again. And Jackson Burns, he's a really sweet kid, and he came up. He was like, hey, can you guys please stop? I don't really like it.
Ty
Oh, okay.
Nova
And they just kept saying, six, seven, like, over and over and over, even though he asked. Even though he asked very politely.
Ty
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Nova
So then he just kind of sat on the bench and covered his ears, and I was like, this ain't right. So I came up to the guys and, like. Like, please stop. You know? And then he went over to Jackson Burns. He didn't want to talk, so I just sat with him for, like, five minutes until he walked away. And I said, see you later, Jackson. You know? Yeah.
Ty
And did he. Do you think he liked that? Like, he enjoyed that?
Nova
He. He was a lot more happier.
Ty
Yeah. And look. And look at. You just sat next to him. You didn't.
Nova
Yeah, I tried talking to him, but he wasn't answering Me.
Ty
So you just like, all right, let's sit with you.
Nova
I sat on the mud pit with him.
Ty
Yeah. There. It's important. I'm glad that you did that. And I thought that was great, because the teacher saw you, like, witnessed it and said, hey. Really? One of my favorite things about Noah is that she always includes everybody, which is super important.
Nova
I do my assignments. I don't do my assignments with. I like being independent with my assignments.
Ty
Yeah, I get it.
Nova
I feel like I just.
Ty
You want to do it your own way.
Nova
I want to do my own way.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
So, like, when I. When we were supposed to work on a game with somebody, there's this one group there. Like, we each had to be in two groups. There's this one kid that came late. I was working by myself. You know, my own thing. There was this one kid that came late, and he doesn't. He didn't know what to do. So I kind of, like, brought him over, even though I didn't want to. And I was like, hey, you can work with me. Blah, blah, blah.
Ty
Okay, I'll keep.
Nova
I'll catch you up.
Ty
So that's nice. Even though you didn't want to. Kind of want to. Why? Why don't you want to?
Nova
I just like working on my.
Ty
Just. Yeah, I get it.
Nova
I just like working independently. I feel like I. I be away much more better.
Ty
But you felt a little bad for.
Nova
I felt bad for him, so I kind of like, hey, you can come work with me.
Ty
Yeah. He seemed really confused, and was he happy?
Nova
He was happy.
Ty
See, that's nice. Yeah. Like I said, I always tell you, I always feel like it's. You know, I think any kid can, you know, learn how to play an instrument or play. Be really good at a sport or, you know, they can have all these skills. But I think the most important.
Nova
The most important part is kindness and accept and acceptance.
Ty
And that's not really a sport, but I think it's more or less like, I think it's important. Important for kids. Like, I don't care if you can play 8 million different instruments and speak in 8 million different languages, and you have all these athletic skills. If you're not kind and those don't matter, then none of it matters, you know? I mean, so what? You can throw a ball really good. So what? You're really good at this instrument. You're not a nice person. And so I feel like, for me, it's like. I mean, I don't care what you kids do as long as you guys are Happy. And you treat others the way you
Nova
want to be treated. The golden rule. Treat people the way you want.
Ty
It is a golden rule. Yep. I agree. Yeah. I just feel like, you know, I think you're really. You do a really good job at that. You're nice and you are. Treat people with kindness and that's good,
Nova
I have to say.
Ty
And you stick up for people.
Nova
I always try to.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Circumstances. I always try to.
Ty
Yeah. Because remember what I told you about as far as you. If you stand by, you're just as
Nova
worse as a person that's teasing the other person.
Ty
That's true. And so I think silence is complicit. Complicit means you're just kind of like, yeah, you're just kind of letting it happen. It's like, oh, no, you always want to be the one person. Like, whoa, that was wrong. That's not okay.
Nova
Remember that story you told me in elementary school when this one person was being really mean to this person?
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Brown skin.
Ty
Yep, exactly. I got in trouble for it. But I'll. I. I was not. I was okay with it. I was fine. I was. I. I didn't care. I didn't care that I got in trouble. That guy was wrong, and he knew it, and I needed him to know that he was wrong. And. And, yeah, I probably didn't have to be as aggressive as I was, but he was being really cruel. And. Yeah. I don't. I've never been one to kind of just sit by while other people get treated unfairly, so.
Nova
Because I feel like if I stand by, I just feel, like, really, really disappointed in myself.
Ty
Yeah. Yeah. Because you're like, oh, I should have said something, or, oh, I should. Yeah.
Nova
Because then it just breaks my heart seeing somebody so sad.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
And it's just like.
Ty
And you learn from it sometimes if you make. You know, there's times that you, like, won't say something, and then you'll regret it, and you learn a lesson from it, you know?
Nova
And people teach me things, too. Like if they think something's. If I said something wrong. And I do say things wrong. It's not like, oh, I'm the. Yeah, I do say something wrong.
Ty
Yes. Do I? Yep.
Nova
So. And it's always good to have one of those friends that are brutally honest.
Ty
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Right.
Nova
Because I feel like one time I tried on a dress, and I have to say, it didn't look good on me. So then. So my friend was like, I don't really think it looks good on you.
Ty
Oh, really?
Nova
So she just gave me her own opinion.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
She's like, you don't have to agree with me, but I don't think you look good. I tried out another dress, and I loved it. And then that's. That's the one that I chose.
Ty
Oh.
Nova
So I feel like it's kind of like. It's good to have brutally honest friends.
Ty
Yeah. But you also said that you've kind of felt like you didn't look good in that dress. Did you already kind of suspect that you didn't like the way it looked or something or.
Nova
No, but when I looked myself. He's fallen asleep. But when I looked myself in the mirror, I was kind of hesitant.
Ty
Oh, okay. So you felt a little like, I don't know.
Nova
Yeah. So then my friend was like, that doesn't really look too good on you.
Ty
So then you're like, all right, cool. I didn't think so. Like, I get it.
Nova
I was kind of hesitant with it too. So I got this one dress. I. It was really pretty. So.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Then my friends, oh, my God, you look so good in that.
Ty
That's good.
Nova
I was like, it's always nice to have one of those.
Ty
Yeah. One of those friends who are a little like, hey, I'm not gonna. Not here to make sure you're. Yeah, yeah. I'm not here to make sure that you're protected all the time, to let you know, opinion, how it is. Yeah. There's a way to do it in a nice way, because everyone makes mistakes. So if you even witness a friend making a mistake, you can say, like, hey, that wasn't very nice, or, hey, Barbara makes mistakes.
Nova
She's not the goal.
Ty
We all make mistakes. We all. Every single person you've ever met in your life has made a mistake. And I think what separates people, like, I guess what separates people who are, you know, I guess it's hard to explain, but if. If. If someone makes a mistake and then can't be accountable for it and say, oh, I'm sorry, or whatever, that's not good. You want to be able to, like, own up to your mistakes, and we've all made them, so. Yeah. That's why it's important to judge.
Nova
We make mistakes to learn from them, to not do them again.
Ty
Yeah, right. Exactly. So, I mean, if. If.
Nova
And not repeat. And not repeat the bad things in the past.
Ty
Yeah, right. Yeah. And I think it's important because the more you kind of correct yourself, the easier it gets. So, like, when I was super younger, it was harder for me to be like, I wasn't wrong. I was wrong. It was harder for me to, like, realize and understand that I made a mistake.
Nova
Like, when I was six, I made a mistake. I got really mad because you guys yelled at me. It was a really bad mistake. I was like, I. Like, in my mind, I was like, I didn't. I didn't do a mistake.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
I didn't do wrong. I did do something wrong.
Ty
Yeah. I'm trying to think what I'm trying to think of you apologize when you were a kid for saying, I think you told me to shut up once or something like that. And I was like, hey, or maybe that was Veda. Maybe that's probably faith. Not a thing about. That's probably beta. But, yes, you make a mistake. We all make mistakes. It's very normal. It's a part of life. It just. It just depends on how you fix the mistake. How you how.
Nova
How you.
Ty
How you learn from it.
Nova
Yeah.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
So I think we're getting kind of off track here.
Ty
Oh, we are.
Nova
Because we're supposed to be doing questions about the comments.
Ty
Sorry. I know. You're right. I'm sorry. You're right. You're right.
Nova
Doing half of it just talking about one subject.
Ty
I don't know. I just like talking to you. Okay. What's something funny that your mom or dad does all the time?
Nova
You're very persistent with things.
Ty
I think it's so persistent with things
Nova
like you just said, like, this needs to be there, and then you need to. And then you always twist it and it's like, there. It's perfect. Nobody touch it.
Ty
So you mean. I'm trying to think what we would call that. Yeah, I guess it'd be. Or picky.
Sponsor Voice
Picky.
Ty
Yeah, picky.
Nova
I can be picky sometimes with, like, Mochi's cage. It's a mess right now.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
And I'm just getting really annoyed by it. And I want to fix it, but I don't have the things to fix it.
Ty
So I'm like, yeah, well, you get this stuff to fix it. What about something. Funny thing that mom does?
Nova
The funny thing that mom does, she laughs over the most simple of stuff
Ty
she does kind of over the videos that she'll watch, and then she'll show me the video. I'm like, ah, it's kind of funny, but all right.
Nova
And I do that a lot too. When me and my mom, like, watch these cats that have wobbly cat syndrome. I know it.
Ty
Oh, my gosh, you guys. These wobble. It's wobbly cat syndrome. You have to look it up on whatever, YouTube or something. There's this cat that wobble constantly as he walks. It's the craziest thing ever. That is kind of funny, though, the wobbly cat.
Nova
I feel kind of bad that I'm laughing at it, though, because I know.
Ty
Well, okay. It's all right. You're not the only one who's laughing at it. What? Who in your family is the silliest.
Nova
What's that like?
Ty
Who's your. Who in your family is the silliest person?
Nova
Oh, the silliest.
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
Oh, I don't know. Oh, damn. I'm really trying to think about it because half of my family is really funny. Yeah. Especially you.
Ty
Sometimes. I don't even mean to be funny. It just happens.
Nova
It's like you say the most. You just say things out of nowhere.
Ty
I do.
Nova
Like, what are we made of? You know? Do you know what we're made of? We're made of stardust.
Ty
Oh, geez. Going to start. Well, listen, that. I think that's a really cool fact. So I do say that a lot. I mean, I do talk about a lot. I think it's cool. What's your favorite thing to do with your parents?
Nova
My favorite thing to do with my parents? Oh, I answered this question last podcast.
Ty
You did? Oh, okay. Let's skip it then.
Nova
Don't worry, guys. You'll get to hear that question in the last podcast.
Ty
Let's see.
Nova
Are you okay, sir? You're just staring off into the distance like you're drunk.
Ty
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Nova
Oh, that's a really big question, isn't it? Oh, dang it. One place or multiple places?
Ty
It says, if you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Nova
Tower Fall.
Ty
What?
Nova
Tower Falls.
Ty
What's Tower Falls?
Nova
You. You need to search it up.
Ty
Okay. Okay.
Nova
Tower Falls.
Ty
Tower.
Nova
Very pretty place.
Ty
Tower Falls Falls. Oh, and Yellowstone National Park. Oh, wow. That is cool.
Nova
Yeah. Can I see it again?
Ty
Yeah.
Nova
It's very pretty.
Ty
That's really pretty. Yeah, that'd be really cool to go there.
Nova
I would love to see a wolf there. They're so pretty.
Ty
What's something new that you want to try this year?
Nova
Oh, dang it. Probably go to this art camp.
Ty
Oh, the art camp. You want to go there? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I gotta look into that. I think it starts up in. There's one in June.
Nova
Sorry, I just hit the mic.
Ty
That'd be. Yeah, that's cool. Oh, here's a quick oh, here's a. You know what? We'll end it with this. This is a nice little quick, like, fast paced question. Ready? I'm gonna go quick. Ready? And you can't think about too much. Okay. Go. Boom. You prepared. Okay, ready. Pizza or tacos?
Nova
Tacos.
Ty
Beach or snow?
Nova
What? What is it?
Ty
Beach or snow?
Nova
Speech.
Ty
Okay. Cats or dogs?
Nova
Dogs.
Ty
Movies or games?
Nova
Movies.
Ty
Morning person or night owl?
Nova
Night owl.
Ty
Oh, yeah, you got that. That's. That's it. Okay. That's a lot of questions. We got through some questions. That's good. What do you think? Is there anything else you want to. Anything else you'd like to tell the awesome people who. Who listen to Kate and Ty break it down?
Nova
Like I said last podcast, just don't give up on yourself.
Ty
It's always good advice. Yeah.
Nova
And also, like, accept other people, even though they might be different. Just really, like almost what dad said. Just be kind, be caring, be accepting. And it will. It will help you and thousands of other people that you know me.
Ty
True. That's true. Well, thank you for talking with me. We should do it again sometime.
Nova
Yeah, Be so fun.
Ty
Mom. I love you.
Nova
I love you.
Ty
Say bye, mochi. Okay, everybody, thank you so much for tuning in to Kate and Tight. Break it down. Don't forget to like, subscribe, share and we will see you next week. Love you.
Nova
Bye. Bye.
