And can I tell you, that was my first big brand trip I ever went on and we both got there a day early. So the brand trip started the next day and at that point in time I hadn't seen your content yet. Like you know, you see familiar faces and you were waiting line in front of me at the bar and you like turned around and saw me and you were like your outfit is so cute. Like where's your outfit from? And I was not feeling confident that day at all. Did not feel cute and like this beautiful girl turns and compliments me and I was like that literally just gave me the confidence to be on this brand trip and feel like I belonged. And then I remember that night, me, I was with my best friend Nicole. We like looked you up and watched all your videos and we're like, wait, we're obsessed with her. Oh, my God. And then after that, I was like, wait, you're my vibe. We had so much fun that trip. And then after. I feel like since then, we just all always ran into each other and kept the friendship going.

That. One of my questions was. I was gonna ask what your first impression of me was.

Oh, that was it. And it was before I ever knew you were a content creator. Like, literally just random. Like, I feel like I got to see how you are just as a person and how you treat people not in a work environment, because you didn't know I was on the trip either. We were there early. So. I always say when people talk about you, I'm like, she's the best. And you just make people feel so good.

And I was like, her braids are so sickening. But I think, like, you have an aura about you. I don't know what it is, but, like, you exude so much confidence and kindness, and you're such a genuine person, which, as you know, is really hard in this industry to have that.

[Alexa J]

I would describe myself well, for my Internet presence. I try to portray myself as someone's best friend, someone that they come to and they watch and they listen, and they know I'm going to be honest. They know I'm going to be genuine in myself. And I really try to show that through showing the really important parts of my life, which is my family, my friends, my opinions, my favorite products, like, all of that good stuff. And. But, like, in everyday life, I think I just really pride myself on being a good friend and, like, a loyal person and someone that people feel comfortable confiding in and just someone that people can lean on, because I just think that's what life is all about, is, like, having strong connections and friendships and family relationships as best you can. So I think that's how I would describe myself. I'd hope people would describe me.

Yeah, I 100% would, knowing you in person. Absolutely. And I think you do a great job at showing who you truly are online, which is really hard to do. And I feel like I have kind of pulled back a little bit on showing who I truly am, because I just wanted to protect my piece. But I think you do a really good job at showing who Alexa is.

You share a lot of beauty, fashion. You just got your apartment right. Like, is that the type of content you want to continue focusing on? More lifestyle?

[Alexa J]

Yeah. I feel like it's really fun, like, growing with someone. I have girls messaging. Like, we live parallel lives. I just moved into my first apartment, and I'm doing this, and I feel like all I can do is really talk about my own personal opinions in life of, like, living with friends, living in A sorority house, living by yourself and just going through different phases of life. And I love watching that with different girls. Like, watching girls from when they were in college to now getting engaged, it's so fun. And, yeah, I just feel like that's kind of what I love in watching people's content. And then I. I used. I was watching my old videos. I used to be so funny. Like, I used to do all the funny, dumb. Same thing.

I was like, I literally filmed myself once. My pants, you know, like, where did that Avery go? One of my destroyed me.

[Alexa J]

It's literally. No, but it's like, that was so authentic. One of my first ones was like, me. This was before Tick Tock was, like, huge. This was like, hype house era. I'm in college still, and I'm walking home, and it's like, oh, my last walk of shame in college. I'm like, what the. I posted my last walk of shame. Like, me walking. I'm like, this is psychotic. But that's so funny.

It's when you don't think that people will ever see it. You just don't fucking care. Like, I would love to make a spam account.

[Alexa J]

Yes.

But then I know someone would find it, and then I'm like, that would be it for me.

You know, it's like, you take my fun away. Maybe I'll do, like, a private one for, like, just my friends. Yeah, you should, because I wouldn't care. But, like, my close friends, I just am unhinged. I don't really care.

I actually posted something I have to tell you about, because I'll talk about on the podcast. I don't really care. David and I, you know, mom and dad were having sexy time. Yeah.

Kids are asleep. Like, We've been together 12 years, and I was like, we went to Crazy Horse in Paris.

[Alexa J]

Oh. You know, you recommended me. And I met a guy and went on a date with him from Crazy Horse. Yeah. So we know the vibe of Crazy Horse. Yeah, we know the vibe.

[Avery Woods]

Alexa went to Paris and she's like, what are your recommendations? So of course I tell her. And so you went before I even went because I had never been before.

[Alexa J]

You're kidding.

The last two times we went to Paris, we couldn't go. So that's why I was like, please go, because it's supposed to be iconic. And I. It was even better. I could have imagined.

Those girls are so fly. I'm like, I didn't. I don't even go for my husband. I'm like, I went for me.

[Alexa J]

So anyways, we're in bed and you know, getting it on and I was like, oh, I'm gonna show this man how flexible Pilates made me. And I put my L. He's like hovering over me naked, right? And I like put my legs up like that. And I was going to like spread him like, you know.

Crazy Horse.

[Avery Woods]

Yeah, like Crazy Horse status. Yeah. Well, he was like leaning down at the same time straight kicked him in the mouth. And he woke up the next morning and his lip was all purple and blue cuz his teeth literally went into his lip. And he's staring at me with his dangalang just like hanging over me. And I was like, oh my God, I'm so sorry. And he's like, you could tell. He was like internally like, oh, this hurts so fucking.

I'm not gonna kill the vibe.

[Avery Woods]

I'm not gonna kill the vibe. So he was like, I'm good, it's fine, it's fine. And then the next morning, he literally has this massive fucking bruise on his lip. I took a picture of it, I'll have to put it on the screen.

But that's what the close friends are looking like.

[Avery Woods]

That's what the close friends are looking like. Cause like that is just my life, you know, it's just sometimes I kick my husband in the face when we're having sex. And that's okay.

And that it's okay and real.

Talk to me about your first apartment because I'm so excited for you. It's a big step, a big chapter.

[Alexa J]

Huge.

Yeah. When did you know you were ready to take that step?

[Alexa J]

So I originally I'm from la. I moved back after college. I graduated during COVID and I lived in a house with my four best friends. And so that was like my vibe for the past few years. And then it was the four of us all living together and then we split up two and two. Just because it's so hard to find like a good place for four people and you're getting older. It's like, it's too much chaos.

[Avery Woods]

Four girls in the kitchen. I could never.

[Alexa J]

It was, yeah, it was a situation. And then those two girls that lived together, they moved into their solo apartments and just watching them do it and build out this lives for themselves, I was like, I want that, I want that so bad. And also I just feel like with this job it is so exhausting socially and my roommate is my best friend in the whole world. But sometimes I come Home, and I'm like, I need to be in my room for 48 hours and not talk to anyone and just be by myself. Also, like, during the time we were living together, I feel like I was going through a lot, personally. I had, like, my first time I was grieving someone. I was going through a lot with, like, my body and my self image and all these different things, and I just needed to be alone. And it's hard to work on yourself and do all of these things and also be conscientious of someone else's space and someone else's time and, like, trying to keep common areas clean and, like, take care of yourself and be on your own schedule and not affect someone else. Like, sometimes I just want to film my videos when I want to film my videos and do all these things. And I feel like I'm in such a different financial place now, too, where I don't need to have a roommate or three other roommates to make it more affordable to have a nicer place. And I feel like I have just a stronger sense of self, and I feel confident enough to be by myself, and I don't feel afraid. And I think that's when it really clicked for me, when it didn't seem like something that was scary anymore. It seemed like something really exciting. And my best friend felt the same way. Like, we'd always talked about how, you know, we want to be young and in our 20s and living by ourselves and seeing what it's like. And, like, I also feel like dating is so different when you have your place.

How do you bring a guy home with four girls? You know, you don't. Yeah.

[Alexa J]

Or you do, because everyone's hammered and, like, no one knows what's going on.

You don't want to go back to his place.

Like, hell, no.

No, no, no. And I've walked into some situations, and it's not.

I'm passing out. As you fucking should after major surgery. That's crazy. Which we'll talk about in just a second. But I have some questions about your apartment. Cuz, you know, I just renovated my home, so, like all things home apartment, I need to have you over. Like, I don't know why you never

came see Stevie Lee's bathroom. Like, now.

Like, yesterday, she curated her outfit for St Patrick's Day because they wear uniforms, but when it's a holiday, like, they can be a little fun with it.

So she had a Lucky Charms T shirt with a green necklace and a green bow in her hair, and then yellow tassel earrings to match the font on the shirt. I was like, I can't even make this up. And then she was like, mom, because it's a holiday, can I put on some blush? I said, period queen. Get it? So she goes to her pink bathroom, puts on her tower 28.

I like that she's bartering like it's a holiday. Dude, bring out the blush.

She is so sicken. Sickeningly smart. It actually is terrifying because I'm like, you're only sure. Do you know she's speaking French?

Right? And why does that make sense? Yeah, because I want her to yell at you in French.

No. And I'm like, honestly, if you cuss me out in French, I probably wouldn't even get you in trouble.

Have you taken her to Paris yet?

So, okay, Dave and I have been talking about this because Ziggy's studying Spanish. He likes Spanish, she likes French. Which is fine. Like, they're not going to be motivated to learn a different language if it doesn't interest them. But their school also offers Mandarin and Latin. And I was like, those are hard ass languages. And I also feel like Mandarin would be great for, like, tech stuff.

But Stevie loves French, and her favorite food in the world is a chocolate croissant. So David and I were like, we have to.

I should. But I was like, it's hard enough for her to even go full day at Disney without a meltdown because she gets so tired that I can't even imagine the time change. Yeah. So I'm thinking when she's like, six,

I was gonna say, even, like, if you guys ever wanted to implement, like, a father, son, mommy, daughter trip. Yes. When she's, like, 13 or something and she, like, understands what Paris means.

were like, in like. My six foot five husband was crouched over in coach. This is in 2022. Yeah. And because that was what we could afford, and we were so grateful to be there. Like, we didn't give a fuck. Yeah. So, yeah, I'm like, you know, I don't want to raise super spoiled, entitled kids. And, like, we try to find that balance because of the environment we live in here. But, yeah, I think it would be cute when she learns more French to, like, guide me around the city and be able to speak the language.

I feel like you're putting such a strong character in your kids that they're going to understand that this stuff is insane that they get to do, but their parents work hard, and that's why they get to. And they'll, you know, understand that it's a blessing, you know, not something that they're entitled to. It's a blessing. That's everything.

To get to go to Paris with you.

Yeah, we try. And, like, even, you know, we had a conversation with them this week where they looked at their food before they even tried it after I was literally cooking my ass off in the kitchen. We don't like like that. And I was like, did you try it? No, I just know I don't like it. And I said, okay, well, there's a lot of kids around the world that don't even get to eat dinner. So your plate's gonna sit right here on the dinner table. And when you change your mind, you want to come back because you're hungry, I'll heat it up for you.

Like, we're setting all of this up because I can't, because I just had surgery. So you're gonna do it? And he was like, oh, hell no. He was like, hire a task rabbit. I was like, well, the good news is none of this needs power tools. You just stack it. So if he can do it. Who's never touched a toolkit in his life? Anyone can do it. Such good quality. Would recommend it to everybody.

And so I had the talk of, like, you know, when you lose your hair, it can be really hard for people. Like, that's a very sensitive subject. So, you know, we don't want to say these. And I'm like, I'm trying to, like, teach her that you can't, like, call out someone's physical appearance because she doesn't understand why that would make sense.

I'm so glad we get to talk about it because it is so important and like the most fulfilling thing I've ever done. So when I was in college, there was a guy in a fraternity that was diagnosed with a blood cancer and he was looking for a bone marrow transplant for his cancer. So we all did a little cheek swab and to see if any of us were a match. I was not a match, but I didn't know is they kept your DNA to see and like kept it in a system. Probably signed off on that on a paper. I didn't know what I was doing. But you're like, yep. I'm like, sign whatever. But yeah, so I got a call probably like 8 months ago now, and they were like, hi, this is Gift of Life. You did a cheek swab with us eight years ago and you've been in our system and you matched with a cancer patient. And we would love to run some tests and see if you're still a match because they're in need of a donor. And at that point in time, I didn't know if it was gonna be bone marrow or stem Cells. So stem cells a year. It's just pretty much like a blood transfusion. You still have to fly somewhere, and they just take out your blood and then they circulate it back into you. That's the vibe I was getting from it. And my patient or my recipient was older, so they said usually children are the ones that take bone marrow donations. And so I was like, okay, cool. This easy peasy little blood test, whatever. They were like, you are doing the bone marrow surgery. And I had. Have you watched Crazy Me?

[Avery Woods]

No, I. It's hard for me because I'm medically trained, and it's so inaccurate that I can't watch it, but I love the pit.

[Alexa J]

Okay. I love the pit.

[Avery Woods]

Yeah, I love the pit. The pit is so accurate.

Everything about it is so real. Okay.

They had to do a like, eight week medical training before they started filming.

To, like, learn how to actually use certain devices, put on gloves the right way. But I worked when I was SWAT nurse for the tower that I worked for. I did a lot of time in the er. It's very, very real. Wow. Very real.

[Alexa J]

That makes me really happy.

But with Grayson, because it's. It's so.

[Alexa J]

I'm sure.

[Avery Woods]

Yeah, it's. And also I'm like, how do I start when there's 100 seasons, you know,

[Alexa J]

and you have to stop at, like, 11 or 12, like, a couple more people die, and it's like, let's just wrap it up now. Like, let's just stop it here. But in Grey's Anatomy, in, like, one of the early seasons, someone gives a bone marrow donation. So I had that in my head as this, like, super painful thing, and it was really freaking me out. But I also knew, like, if you get a call that you can save someone's life, this is someone's dad, this is someone. Someone's son, brother, whatever. You do it. Like, my. So many people in my family have had cancer. The cancer gene is very strong in my family. And if someone could have helped my grandpa that passed a few years ago, or God forbid, my mom has cancer again, like, anything like that, I would hope someone would step up. And so it was a no brainer for me. I was like, I'm doing this surgery no matter what the case is. And so, yeah, I was really lucky my mom got to go with me. We flew to D.C. a few weeks ago and did the procedure there. I didn't really do a lot of research before I did it, just because I was like, I know I'm doing it. And I. It's like, what's the point of freaking myself out?

[Avery Woods]

I was gonna say, when it comes to a medical procedure, I was the same way. When. This is not even close to comparing, but when I got my nose job, that's a very.

[Alexa J]

That's a procedure. And it probably a stronger recovery, too.

[Avery Woods]

Well, it's also just like, plast. Like elective plastic surgery. I'm not saving lives like you are, but I was. People were like, did you look it up? It's, like, so brutal. I'm like, why would I ever watch that?

[Alexa J]

No.

[Avery Woods]

So I would do the same thing.

[Alexa J]

Yeah. I was like, I don't know what I'm doing. But what I didn't know is that they walk you through it before you do it. So they sit. I'm like, they're taking my blood. They're putting in my IVs. It's me and my mom sitting there. And the guy, the doctor comes in. He, like, they're all so kind. They're like, you're doing an amazing thing. This is wonderful. Which I really appreciate. Cause it, like, gave me the confidence of, like, okay, I can do this. And I've never been put under anesthesia before. And that was the part that freaks me out. It's like, I have this fear that I'm, like, never gonna wake up. And I just. I don't like it.

[Avery Woods]

I'm like, you're gonna feel everything. Yes.

[Alexa J]

That's what it is. And that they think I'm under, and I'm not. I was like, I just. It freaks me out. It freaks me out. And I have a trend of being like, the one in a million. Like, this is so random. It's one in a million. Like, I get this happens to me a lot. So I was like, I'm gonna be the one in a million that I'm awake. Under. Under there. I was fine. But they're walking me through the procedure. They draw the spine. They're telling me everything. And what I didn't know was that they had to put a breathing tube in me for it. And I just didn't understand how intense the procedure was. And that they were also taking 30% of my blood. So I was going to be on iron pill. I'm on iron pills for the next two months as well. I was like, 30%'s a lot. It's a lot. And I was like, hey, I'm going to Coachella in April, so am I going to be okay?

[Avery Woods]

Like, so priorities. I do need to go to Coachella.

[Alexa J]

I'm just like, I don't know if you've ever heard of Justin Bieber, but I am going to Coachella, and I'm a little nervous about this. So it was just stuff like that that I was, like, getting all this information, and I started feeling, like, a little hot and queasy. And the next thing I know, my mom turns, and she's like, I'm so sorry to interrupt, but could I sit down real quick? Oh, my mom passed out. She literally, like, hearing all of this, like, freaked her out. I don't know what it. My mom is. My mom has literally had cancer. Like, my mom is a medically developed person. She has been through it all. Should radiation this year. Like, this stuff doesn't freak her out. So that's what I'm saying. Like, him walking us through it was just so freaky that it freaked her out and then. But honestly, I was like, this was the funniest thing that's ever happened. Like, me watching my mom, I was like, are you fucking kidding me? I'm like, you're here as my emotional support. They brought her juice. They brought her crackers. They brought a gurney.

She's, like, admitted as a patient separately.

[Alexa J]

That is what happened. And I was like, I'm fine. And then they're like, okay, it's time to go. She's eating her cracker. I'm like, bye. Love you.

It's gonna go great. Oh, the other thing. She's like, my mom is the greatest person that's ever walked this earth. You would love her before the thing. They're like, running through the random questions before you go in surgery. And they, like, bring up. They're like, oh, yeah, did you, like, do a thing with, like, your will? And I was like, I don't think so. My mom was like, damn it. Why didn't we do that? I was like, what the. I'm like, do you think I'm gonna. Why are we talking about my will?

That's the worst when you go under, and they're like, is everything set in stone if you don't come out? And I'm like, what the does that mean?

[Alexa J]

And I'm like, and why they named 10 other things before this? You've worked quiet as a mouse, and we're bringing up my will? You want. Like, what are we talking about right now? Why are we talking about me dying?

[Avery Woods]

Like, babe, I'm just trying to get my own apartment right now.

[Alexa J]

I was like, I have a lot coming up in the next few months, so we need to get this going. And. But her passing out was so funny to me that I was like, okay, let's do this. Like, I'm laughing. This is good. This is funny. And then, yeah, we did the procedure. I woke up.

[Avery Woods]

How long was it, do you know?

[Alexa J]

I think it was about an hour and a half. Okay. Hour and a half. An hour. Yeah, yeah.

[Avery Woods]

And then is it like a spinal injection where they withdraw?

[Alexa J]

Yeah, so they go in on two sides. Okay. And. And that's where I was like getting queasy when he was talking about this. So I don't know if they go into your. It's kind of like your hip down here. It's not your spine. It's like your hip bones down here. But yeah, that's the situation. I. I literally was like not doing well when he was telling me the surgery. So I was like, just do it. Like, just vote.

[Avery Woods]

It reminds me of an epidural.

[Alexa J]

Yes.

[Avery Woods]

Or like a spinal. Like with Stevie. She was an elective C section because I just had big babies and I already had one with, with Ziggy. And a spinal is different than epidural. Like you literally, it was a night and day difference. Cuz when I delivered Ziggy, I pretty much felt like my whole C section. Cuz I labored for 43 hours and it was an emergency C section, the whole thing. So Stevie, I was like, nah, yeah, just cut her out. Like, just numb me up. And when the anesthesiologist put the spinal in, he, he was like, it's going to be like a very dull pain. And it really feels like they're like. Well, they are in your spine, you know, but you can like, can you

[Alexa J]

imagine doing that awake?

[Avery Woods]

Feel the dullness? It's the weirdest thing. And then literally from my chest down, zero felt nothing.

[Alexa J]

That is. Could you move or no, no.

[Avery Woods]

Oh my God, I cannot move. And they strap your arms down like this. And the worst part is your spouse can't join you until they're already starting.

[Alexa J]

Oh my God.

So they put David in another room. They take me into the OR by myself. So I walk in. You have to like curve your bot. Like your body like this. But I was like, I would love to like hold my husband while you're doing this. But it's fine, I get it. It's an orange or it's sterile. So like, you know, so they were dressing him out and then I Was already strapped down, laying. And then I look over, and then he walks in when they had already started. And she was literally from the time I walked in the or, I was breastfeeding her nine minutes later.

[Alexa J]

Wow.

Isn't that crazy?

[Alexa J]

That is crazy.

But I could move my toes after like three hours.

[Alexa J]

Wow. I was an emergency C section, too. My mom was laboring for. For a day and a half, and then they finally did an ultrasound and saw the umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck.

[Avery Woods]

Yep, that'll do.

[Alexa J]

It. Took her into the C section, started cutting her, and she felt it. They didn't anesthesia her enough. Oh, isn't that psychotic? Yeah.

[Avery Woods]

I remember with Ziggy, it was the same. And I was like, ow, I feel that. Ow, I feel that. And mind you, David was filming the whole thing. So I was like, my dad filmed it too. I was like, I want to see. I want to, like, look back at this. And the anesthesiologist was like, is it dull or sharp pain? And I said, well, I guess it's dull. And he was like, that's the best we're gonna get. Like, we need to get him out. Cause Ziggy's heart rate dropped.

So I was like, just get him out.

Oh, yeah, I'll feel it. But I'm like, like screaming, don't talk about childbirth enough. Let me tell you. We don't talk about that enough.

Yeah, but it was. Stevie's was like a very redemption, like, felt like a redemption experience. Cuz it was. It was so different. But yeah, surgery is no joke, dude. And being intubated too. Was your throat sore after?

That was the worst part, like, waking up. And I had a stiff neck. The next day when I woke up, I was like, what the hell did they do to me under there? I have no idea what I. And that's the craziest part, is like, you don't know what they did for an hour and a half. No damn clue.

I used to work with an anesthesiologist. This is so funny. If she ever watched this, she would kill me. But I won't say her name. I worked with an anesthesiologist that she would put people down, and while the surgery was happening, she would extract all their blackheads on their nose in surgery.

Like, I genuinely feel like I am in such a great place, such a good version of myself, and I have such a positive outlook on dating, and I feel like someone would be lucky to be with me.

Period. I just feel I can honestly say I don't think I've ever felt this way before. And I think living by myself just opened up this whole new era. I feel so confident.

I feel like you exude so much confidence. Like, I can tell a huge difference from when I first met you to now 100%. And mind you, it's been three years. But like, it takes time and like you have to discover who you are.

It takes so much time.

And your 20s as a woman are the hardest years. Like, they are so hard. You go through so much change and you discover yourself and you, you know, go from 18 graduating high school and then you live on your own. You go to college, you graduate, you have to find this career.

You live independently.

Totally.

Like, you become an age where you're expected to be a mom. You know, there's a lot going on. Totally.

And I feel like two things. Like, I think that for me there's such a difference between self love and confidence. Like, I feel like I've always had a strong sense of self love. Like, I've always had forgiveness for myself and been able to see the best in myself no matter what I'm going through. But I haven't always believed other people would see that in me. And I think now I'm at a place where I. I'm like, who cares what other people think?

[Avery Woods]

Yep.

You know, like, this is who I am and I feel confident in who I am. And I feel like that has just been life changing for me. I forgot the other thing I was gonna say.

[Avery Woods]

But speaking of 20s, where did you go to college?

[Alexa J]

Washington State University.

That's right. Because my parents went to uw. Yes, yes.

And what did you study again?

Psychology and Business.

That's right. And then when did content creation come about? Because I don't even know that about you.

So for me it was. I was in Covid while I was in college my senior year and it was like me and all my friends quarantined in a house. And our like college house was like nine of us. And I remember we had this big ass whiteboard and we were just watched. This is when Tick Tock took off. We're watching people get famous. I'm like, we can do this, you guys. Like, we can do this. We're funny, we're nice, we're cool. Like, we can do this. So we had a group Tick Tock. It was literally just me making videos of all of us, like doing random stuff. And like, my assistant told me that she scrolled down to the bottom of my Tick Tock. I'm like, I don't that was me just like drunk in Covid with my friends. Like, I don't even know what videos are down there. And then I moved back to LA where I'm from and I started working as a sales rep for wine and spirits company. And during that time, I hated my life. Like, I hated working that job. It was so hard. Yeah. So I would. At my job, I would have to go to different accounts, Walmarts, targets, whatever. And in between, I would just make videos in my car talking about what I whatever. And then I started part time assisting this girl that worked at Sev Laser and I would help her make content.

[Avery Woods]

Wait. I literally just got my vag laser there yesterday.

[Alexa J]

It's the best. I go there, I get all my Botox there, I do all my laser there. It's literally the best.

[Avery Woods]

I literally was spread eagle in the butterfly position, as they would call it. And then she's like, can you roll on your left and spread your right cheek?

[Alexa J]

And I said, yep, I can do whatever you need me.

[Avery Woods]

I said, summer's coming, babe. Get that butthole.

[Alexa J]

And thank you for the reminder that I need to do that.

Yeah, honestly, you know, I've been doing laser for so long and then, you know, I had some kids and that up your my hair growth as it does with hormones, and I started coming back a little bit and I said yes. See, one thing about me with my native American and Italian heritage is I grow a bush.

Yeah.

And she's gonna be big. And it doesn't matter what I do. I will have razor burn. So laser has literally changed my life because I'm in. I'm at the pool or the beach with my kids all summer. I'm always in a bathing suit.

I'm not smarter, harder. You know, like, let's do that.

And one thing I will say about Sev and no, I'm not being paid to say this. Painless.

My roommate was so scared to do it. I was like, it does not hurt. They have the little cold air that's blowing air. Best you feel nothing. Yep.

I'll do it after I go. I'll do a little bit later. But, yeah. So during that time, I started making videos. And then eventually I got scouted by a modeling agency, and then I started making videos about modeling. And then my first thing that I booked was a shoot with Savage Fenty. And then they didn't tell me, but Rihanna was in the shoot. So I showed up and they were like, did you see her yet? I'm like, who? They're like, rihanna? And I was like, oh, my idol. Like, my hero. That's crazy. So that started me. I was a Curve model for, like, three or four years, and it was everything. I loved it. It was really hard and trying during those times. For those of you guys that don't know, I was Curve model, Curve influencer for multiple. Multiple years. And I recently lost some weight. But during that time, I, like, went through a lot. I don't know if you knew me. During the Highlight Room scandal.

[Avery Woods]

No, no, that.

Okay, you would love her. But basically, we went to a club in LA and they wouldn't let us in because we were Curve.

[Avery Woods]

Highlight Room? They're shut down now. Bye. Karma's a but. Yeah, it was a whole thing, and I made a video about it the next day, and it got, like, millions and millions and millions of views, and the entire Internet was talking about my body and if fat women deserve to go to the club or not and deserve to, like, have fun and have relationships. It was. Was, like, hit Australian news at that point, like, all over the world just literally discussing my body.

[Avery Woods]

I've never seen any of this. That's the craziest thing I've ever heard.

[Alexa J]

This was the worst thing I've ever been through. It was.

[Avery Woods]

I'm so sorry.

[Alexa J]

Well, it was just, like. It was so helpful for so many women. Like, so many women were like, oh, my gosh, I've been through this. This is, like, you know, the hardest thing. It's such a relatable experience for Curve women. But at the same time, like, when you're not super confident in your body, having that discussed, like, I had to sit down my parents and be like, you're gonna see this. I'm seeing people from high school, like, the Shade Room post about me. I'm seeing just, you know, I just had to, like, tune everything out. And I think that really changed, like, set me back a lot in, like, where I was in my personality and my confidence, because I was seeing what people thought that weren't nice. And yeah, it was really hard for me, but at the same time I just tried to like, focus on the part that was helping people and being relatable and I really tried to lean into that. And during that time, I was just going through a lot with my family. My grandp got sick, who was like my second dad. And I feel like I really like, shut down for a while and I just didn't want to post. I didn't want to post my outfits. I didn't want to post anything really about my life because I just wasn't feeling like myself. Like, I used to do podcasts and panels all the time and I was like, I don't have to say right now. Like I really don't. And so, yeah, I feel like that just kind of like shut me down. And I think I'm someone that really leans into food for comfort as well. And I think I was kind of like, you know, everyone's calling me fat right now. I might as well enjoy it. Might as well lean into that.

And I really like. I also talked a lot about how I suffered with an eating disorder when I was in college, which I think is a really relatable experience for a lot of women too. And so I had a really unhealthy relationship with the gym. And it was kind of like all or nothing for me all the time. And so I was in a period of time where it was nothing. So I was like leaning into food, not working out, not enjoying anything, not even going on walks, not even getting outside, just like really just feeling exhausted at all times because I felt like every ounce of my life was exhausting. I would open my phone and people were talking about how I looked. I was talking to my family, and it was just sad and it was just so much going on. And so I feel like I really took the last two years to re evaluate myself and what I needed and like what my dream life looks like and how I want to talk to myself, how I want to treat myself. And it started with like making myself go on a long walk every day and started making videos of that of like long walks every single day. And then I started leaning in. My skin got really bad and I was like, it's because I'm eating like shit. Like, I gotta figure this out. I gotta eat some fruits, gotta eat some veggies. And so kind of cleaning out like my diet and make. Trying to like cure my skin through that really helped with. And like in combination with my exercise, I just started losing weight. And so it's been like a year

[Avery Woods]

and a half now.

[Alexa J]

I think I've lost, like, a little bit over a hundred pounds, which is crazy. And it's funny because, like, people don't really notice until you hit, like, 60 pounds is when people started noticing and they're like, wait a minute, what happened? Like, where did it all go? I'm like, girl, this has been happening for a while. This has been happening, going on for a while now. I feel like I get a lot of those questions about, of like, did you get surgery? Did you get this? Did you get that? I'm like, no, just diet and exercise. That's what I was doing.

[Avery Woods]

And because of what you went through with the club, how you were talking about people body shaming you, fat shaming you, have you received the opposite where now you're, like, skinny shamed because you were a curve model.

[Alexa J]

Absolutely. I think it's a little bit of both. I think, like, it's a lot of people being like, she's lying, she's lying, she's lying, she's lying.

[Avery Woods]

My literally, story of my life.

[Alexa J]

Oh, yeah, No, I absolutely. I see the comments, babe. Like, it's ridiculous, crazy. I'm literally. Well, first of all, I'm someone that, like, when I was a curve model and. Or not a curve model, when I was just curve, like, I would get triggered a lot watching weight loss content from other people just because, like, I knew I wasn't treating my body the best, you know, I mean, you can be curvy and healthy. Like, let me get that very clear. Some of all the curve models I know are extremely healthy, fit in the gym every single day, incredible bodies. But I was hurting myself because I was in pain every day, and I knew I was doing that. And yeah, so I literally just knew, like, when people were commenting and stuff. I think people don't know my story. Like, you know, new people come in at all times. They don't know that I've, like, struggled with an eating disorder. I've had major weight losses before. And for me, like, losing weight isn't hard. What's hard is, like, being in a healthy mindset. I can lose weight, but am I going to do it in a healthy way? Yes or no? So for me, I was like, I cannot start working out and treating myself nicely until I'm mentally okay again, because if I do this when I'm not okay, it's not going to be healthy. And I knew that about myself. So I really had to wait and, like, be patient with myself. And I Think that's when like self love really comes in. If loving yourself at all shapes and sizes, like I did not ever once look in the mirror at whatever size I was and dislike myself. I will say that with 100 confidence. I've always loved myself and loved how I look because I know that I'm a good person. And I also think that curved women are extremely sexy. And so I never felt that way. I just knew that how I've looked my whole life and like I've always looked like how I look right now. And I knew when I was going through something that affected how I was looking, cooking. And yeah, it's really crazy how difference of treatment you get when you are different sizes. And I think that that's something that really needs to be talked about because the doors fly open when I go to the club now. It's crazy. And it's like I'm the same girl, same exact girl, same exact situation.

[Avery Woods]

Also, who are you to tell me you can't walk in and have fun?

[Alexa J]

And I was like, with your. Why do you think I'm at the club? Because a man inside invited me. That's why I'm here. It's not because, like they're acting like the men are going to be disgusted when I walk through the door or like I'm here because they want me here. That's the situation. And so no matter what size I am, I will always talk about how the treatment occur of women, how I think everything should be size inclusive, inclusive of shade, ranges, of everything. Always, always, always. Because first of all, you never know what situation you're going to be in. It could be tomorrow that you get in a car accident, something happens. Who knows, your lifestyle changes, you gain some weight. I always tell women on my page, you want to marry a man, man or a partner that's going to love you in all shapes and sizes and they don't love you just because of what you look like, your body, whatever. Because as women, especially when we have children or we go through different hormonal changes, you're gonna change how you look. And that cannot be the most important thing in a relationship ever.

[Avery Woods]

Do you think it's hard to date having a public platform?

[Alexa J]

Yes, I do.

Do you think, like, do you do dating apps or do you turn out dating apps? Yeah. Okay.

And I never give out my socials. Ever. No, I keep it as a little surprise. I say I do marketing. I'm like, yeah, I'm a little marketing girl into marketing for brands.

Have you had, like, negative encounters with

men because of your men? Absolutely. The insecure ones. I remember there was this one guy, and we, like, went out on one date, and I could tell. I don't think he knew I was a full baddie, you know? Like, I don't think he knew that he wasn't ready. Yeah. Cause my hinge. I'm like, oh, I'm, like, sweet and cool and nice and, like, I have friends and family. Like, that's what my hinge. Hinge kind of portrays. But then if you see my Instagram, it's like, oh, what is she up to? What is she doing? And so he, like, eventually, he followed me on Instagram after that date, and he kind of, like, on the date, I told him what I did and, like, all of that good stuff. And I remember I went to the Laker game the week after, and he would, like, hadn't talked, texted me after the date or anything like that, and he, like, swiped up after the Laker game, and he was like, how many of those guys messaged you after? I was like, two, asshole. Like, what are you even asking me right now? Like, why do you care? What is. Why Is that what you care?

[Avery Woods]

Loser.

It's so. No. Very loser. So I think it's a lot of that. Of a lot of, like, if they can't handle themselves, like, I think misogynistic men to believe that L. A girls just want to be with the next best thing, and they're going to go be with the rapper, or they're going to go be with a movie star or something like that.

Like, they're chasing money. Like, you are independent.

[Alexa J]

Exactly.

You can't provide for yourself.

I'm like, this is crazy.

And for men, that stuff doesn't impress me. That's my least favorite thing. When I go on a date and they're trying to flash their money or flash things, I'm like, you don't know what I do. I remember this one. Oh, my God, you're gonna die.

I went on a date with this

guy, and I just wasn't really into it to Be honest. I wasn't really into it. And so after our second date, I was just kind of cool. The amount we were texting, you know, it wasn't like, he was horrible. I just didn't. I wasn't super interested. And, you know, it was like, I went to the Laker game, or it was the day that I found out I got the tickets. So I, like, wasn't on my phone. I drove an hour to my parents to surprise my dad with the courtside seats and stuff, and I, like, texted him later that day, and I was like, hey, I'm so sorry. I haven't been on my phone. Like, I had this really exciting opportunity. I ended up driving to my parents and blah, blah, blah. And he was like, oh, that's crazy, because I almost had. I had seats that were, like, pretty close to courtside. I was gonna ask with you. I was gonna ask you me yesterday, but, like, I'm sure you were, babe. Yeah. He was like, I didn't want to ask because, you know, I didn't want you to say yes just because I was going to take you to a basketball game after you didn't text me the day before. I was like, did you not just hear that I'm sitting courtside at the Laker game in two days? I'm like, you. First of all, I don't even like the Clippers. You asked me to a Clipper game. I don't want to go, first of all. Second of all, you're not providing for me anything. I don't provide for myself. So why are you acting like I would be a gold digger and I would be like, oh, my God, yes, I need to go to the Clipper game with you. Like, and also, you say, you know my character and you like me. And he would always talk about, oh, you know, you're just so modest and this and that, blah, blah. And I was like, you're acting like I'm a gold digger. And I would say it was just the craziest thing, but these guys pull things out of their ass. I'm like, your egos hurt that I didn't text you for two days, and now you're trying to throw in my face that, like, you could have asked me to go to the game, but you didn't. I'm like, okay, whoa. Yeah.

Yeah. And they're like, all right, go out, go do it. And that was the wedding cake scene.

It was so fucking good. They are what? My favorite part about the show is that no one knew who any of them were. Like, they are all new actors. And my trainer has a 17 year old daughter that will date, like date night, babysit for us every once in a while. My kids love her and she was at Disneyland and her mom, my trainer, sent me a picture. The entire Tell Me Lies cast was at Disney. And she's standing in the middle with all of them and said they were all so nice in the. They're like, that's so funny.
