Pastor Jared
Let's dive into it. I'm kicking off this series and I'm going to share with you what I believe is the greatest miracle offering in the history of the church. I believe it is the greatest single act of giving and generosity that has ever taken place. If you have a Bible, you will see this story in First Chronicles, chapter 29. This is King David, the famous King David. David who killed Goliath. And he is at the end of his life.
Pastor Jabin
He's old. And I don't mean like, ha, ha.
Pastor Jared
I'm embarrassed to tell you, my age old.
Pastor Jabin
No, he's old.
Pastor Jared
Old.
Pastor Jabin
And if you know anything about David.
Pastor Jared
From the time he was young, he wanted to build God a house.
Pastor Jabin
And he's at the end of his life. He has brought together all of his leadership, all of the mighty men that had been with him from before, from when he was young and Saul was trying to take him out, all of his key people. He brings them all together to do something amazing. Verse 1. Furthermore, King David said to all the assembly, my son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is young and inexperienced and the work is great. This is another preaching for another time. But I do just want to encourage you that if you are young and inexperienced, but God has given you a big dream or he has called you to do something great, do not be afraid of the call of God that he has put on your life. Do not worry about how you are going to do what God has called you to do. Because if God has called you to do something amazing, you, he will empower you while you do it. His grace is sufficient for you. Even when you are weak, he will make you strong. God always qualifies those whom he calls. And then he says, because the temple.
Pastor Jared
Is not for man, but it is for the Lord. We don't think that way, do we?
Pastor Jabin
Oh, that's my church. That's my church.
Pastor Jared
That's my seat. Why are you sitting in my seat?
Pastor Jabin
That's where I park. That's my church. No, no, no. This isn't my church. This is God's church. This is the house of God. This is the place where I come to connect with my. My Savior. This is the place where I come to be in the presence of the divine Person of the Holy Spirit. This is where I come to worship so God can inhabit my praises to steal the avenger and quiet the enemy. This is where I open up my heart to hear the truth and the anointing of the Word of God. This is not about me. This is about him. This Is not about me. This, this is about Jesus. This is not about me. This is about what God wants to do in city like Vegas through me.
Congregant or Church Member
But it's not about me.
Pastor Jabin
And see, Davis shows us from the beginning what his heart was.
Pastor Jared
And he had a heart of stewardship and not ownership.
Pastor Jabin
He knew the church was not for.
Pastor Jared
Him, it was for God. It was to glorify God. It was to give him a house.
Pastor Jabin
And now watch this. In verse 2 he says, now for.
Pastor Jared
The house of my God, I have.
Pastor Jabin
Given, I have prepared with all my might. The word prepared means made provision. The phrase with all my might in the original Hebrew it means capacity, ability, strength, substance and wealth. So David says, now for the house of my God, I have made provision with all my capacity, with all my creativity, with all my substance, with all my strength, and with my money I've made provision. What is he saying? I'm giving God my best. I wonder if you will give God your best in the coming weeks. He said, I'm giving God my best. And then look what he gives.
Pastor Jared
He puts his money where his mouth is.
Pastor Jabin
He says, I have prepared with all my might. Gold for things made of gold, silver.
Pastor Jared
For things of silver, bronze for things.
Pastor Jabin
Of bronze, iron for things of iron, wood for wood, onyx stones, stones to.
Pastor Jared
Be set, glistening stones of various color.
Pastor Jabin
All kinds of precious stones and marble slabs. In what? In what? What does it say? In abundance.
Pastor Jared
So let me just tell you what happened here.
Pastor Jabin
David comes out to his leadership team and he says to use modern day.
Pastor Jared
Vernacular, we're starting a building project. And then he says, by the way, I've already given everything to meet the budget for the building project. And not only did I give everything to meet the need, I went above it. Can I ask you a question? Just yes or no. Yes or no? Do we think like that in modern day Christianity?
Congregant or Church Member
No.
Pastor Jabin
Also, did you notice how nice the church was? Gold, silver, bronze, iron, glistening stones of various colors. Ladies, we're talking about emeralds and rubies and topaz and diamonds, Marble everywhere, not stained concrete marble, not a cool wood thing in the lobby. Solid gold with diamonds and rubies and emeralds placed into it. So then he says in verse three more over what?
Congregant or Church Member
Dude, you already met the budget.
Pastor Jabin
Moreover, watch this.
Pastor Jared
Because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God. In the literal Hebrew text, the statement because I have set my affection, it means it is my delight to give to the house of my God. The APostle Paul in 2nd Corinthians would later come and say that God loves cheerful givers.
Pastor Jabin
I wonder where Paul learned that God loves cheerful givers. Well, I would say to you that Paul learned about cheerful giving from King David. Paul knew this story. Paul knew the story of the first building project, miracle offering ever given to build the first house of God. And he saw David set the tone for cheerful giving. And how can you be a cheerful giver? You can be a cheerful giver. When you have set your affection on the house of your God, it can become your delight to give. Jesus says it's more blessed to give than to receive. Well, how can you enjoy giving? You enjoy giving when you are giving to someone or something that you love.
Pastor Jared
And that's not a foreign concept to us, is it? We all give to people we love. Who's on your Christmas list? People you love, along with the person at work that you drew their name.
Pastor Jabin
But everybody else. Everybody else.
Pastor Jared
It's people you love.
Pastor Jabin
Who do you give your most precious.
Pastor Jared
Asset to your time? Who do you give that to? To people you love. You go on vacation with people you love. You go to watch a show on the strip with people you love. You, you. You go have lunch or dinner with people you love. I also want you to think about this. You determine where your affection is. So I asked you a question. Does God have your heart? Does God have your heart? How many of you wave at me and say, God has my heart. God has my heart. Okay, now let me tell you this to everyone who raised your hand. If God has your heart, the church needs to have your heart. Don't come and tell me, well, I serve God, but I don't love the church.
Pastor Jabin
No, no, no.
Pastor Jared
God loves the church. So if you love God, you love the church.
Pastor Jabin
The church is the bride of Christ.
Pastor Jared
That's like if you came up to me and said, I. I love you, Jared, but I don't want anything to do with your wife. Well, tough luck. We're not going to have a relationship because my wife is my priority. When we got married, the two became one. We are one. So if you want to have a relationship with me, you're going to have.
Pastor Jabin
A relationship with her. You will not separate us. The Bible says that the church. The church is where God's eyes are and his heart is always. If you want God to see you, get yourself to church. If you want your heart aligned with the heart of God, get yourself planted in church. But make no mistake, you set your affection. God does not control your heart. Satan does not control your heart. You control your Heart, you. You determine who has your affection. And David said, I have set my affection on the house of my God. And because I love the house of my God, it is my delight to give to the house of my God. Isn't that amazing? See, the Apostle Paul would say, let each one purpose in his heart to give, not begrudgingly or out of necessity.
Pastor Jared
Well, begrudgingly. That's not really giving anyway. Giving is done freely. It's done joyously. What is begrudgingly? That's painful. That's not giving. I begrudgingly give my taxes. Come on, somebody. I begrudgingly pay my mortgage.
Pastor Jabin
I'm just telling you right now. If my mortgage company called me tomorrow.
Pastor Jared
And said, hey, we did a lottery and you got selected and your mortgage debt has been wiped clean, I would.
Pastor Jabin
Not send them one more dollar. Anybody with me? You know what I'm talking about, right? If the IRS sent me a letter this week and said, you have been randomly selected out of 350 million other people and you have been forgiven of all future income tax, I would say.
Congregant or Church Member
Thank you, Jesus, and they would not.
Pastor Jabin
Get one more penny.
Pastor Jared
But I'm telling you, every two weeks when me and my wife get paid, we freely give our tithe and our offering. Not because I have to, but because I have set my affection on the house of my God. And because I have set my affection on the house of my God, it is my delight to give.
Pastor Jabin
Amen.
Pastor Jared
Now watch.
Pastor Jabin
Look what David does. He says, moreover, because I've set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God over and above what all that I have already prepared for the Holy House. My own special treasure of gold and silver. 3,000 talents of gold, 7,000 talents of refined silver to overlay the walls of the houses. Yes, the walls of the church were covered in solid gold. And some of you are thinking, why.
Pastor Jared
Do we need to do the parking lot?
Congregant or Church Member
So you don't have to walk in mud.
Pastor Jabin
Why do we have this attitude in Christianity?
Congregant or Church Member
You don't have that attitude at Disneyland.
Pastor Jabin
Come on, somebody.
Congregant or Church Member
Why does the world get to do.
Pastor Jabin
Things in excellence and amazement and awesome, but the church has to settle for barely get by?
Congregant or Church Member
You don't think that way at the Bellagio.
Pastor Jabin
We're going to all go see the Bellagio Gardens, and we're not going to.
Pastor Jared
Say, well, I don't know. I can't believe. Did they really need that many lights? I was walking through the wind last night.
Pastor Jabin
Marveled at how they keep the.
Pastor Jared
Mosaic tile so clean. I Wasn't thinking, well, they could have used that.
Pastor Jabin
And we're just hoping to get enough money to put a permanent baptismal so.
Congregant or Church Member
People can go public with their faith. Every time we gather.
Pastor Jared
We just want.
Congregant or Church Member
To put some concrete over some dirt so women's heels don't sink into the rocks. That's all. We're not trying to do Mosaic. We just want to cover some dirt. We want to get out of debt.
Pastor Jabin
So the bank doesn't get more money. That's it. Not something ridiculous.
Congregant or Church Member
Just stop giving the bank whatever percentage.
Pastor Jared
Of money they're getting.
Pastor Jabin
So David says, from my business.
Pastor Jared
Let me explain what happened here.
Pastor Jabin
From my business. I already gave all the money, everything needed.
Pastor Jared
And then he says, and then, personally, I've set what we would now call an endowment. You know, like Harvard and Yale, they have endowments. For what? For what? What are endowments for? They're for future advancement, maintenance, and needs. So David, from his business, he meets the budget and goes above it personally. Then he gives, and he sets up an endowment for the church.
Pastor Jabin
And then look what he does.
Pastor Jared
In verse 5, he looks at the leaders and says, who then is willing to consecrate himself this day to the Lord? The phrase consecrate himself in the literal text, it means come with a full hand. Excuse me. What? I'm sorry, but what. Let's just think about it in this way.
Pastor Jabin
This is like if someone from City.
Pastor Jared
Light had just won that lottery. That was at 980 million this week. It's not. It was in Georgia. Don't get excited, but let's pretend. And that fake family called Pastor Jabin this week and was like, hey, can we go to lunch? And so Jabin goes to lunch, and they said, hey, we already got all the. We got the 980 million. And so we're immediately. We're writing a check for 10 million, and then we're giving 5 million also to the miracle offering. So here's $15 million. And praise the Lord. That should be able to do the parking. That'll put two baptismals and a diving board. No, I'm just kidding. We'll be able to do surround sound. We'll even cover it. It'll pay off all the debt, and you'll still have, like, $5 million for maybe a future campus. Can you imagine if. If the next Sunday, Pastor Jabin and Shannon, they come up here and. And we have, like, confetti, because we can afford confetti because, you know, we got 5 million. It's like, so we have confetti and we celebrate. And then Jabin says, now what are you gonna do? You'd be like, I'm gonna go to Cabo. That's what I'm gonna do. I'm going to Louie. I need another purse. What? What do you mean, what am I going to do? But that's exactly what David did. He said, I've given.
Pastor Jabin
I've given it all.
Pastor Jared
I've even. I've given for future costs.
Pastor Jabin
And then he comes to the leaders.
Pastor Jared
And he says, now what are you gonna do? And look what they did then.
Pastor Jabin
The leaders of the houses, the houses of the tribes of Israel, the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the officers over the king's work, offered willingly. They gave for the work of the house of God 5,000 talents and 10,000 darics of gold, 10,000 talents of silver, 18,000 talents of bronze and 100,000 talents of iron. And whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the Lord, into the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite. Then the people rejoiced.
Pastor Jared
Why?
Pastor Jabin
Because they had offered willingly. Because with a loyal heart. So it was not only David who had set his affection on the house of his God. All of the leaders, everyone at City Light, had set their affection on the house of their God. And when they gave, they did not give begrudgingly. They did not give with an attitude that I have to do this.
Pastor Jared
I'm paying.
Pastor Jabin
They did not give. With resentment in their heart, they give. They gave willingly. And when they gave, they rejoiced, for they had offered willingly to the Lord. And David also rejoiced. Can you imagine what the church of Jesus Christ could accomplish if we had this type of heart? Theologians have gone and calculated the items that you can calculate, because you cannot calculate the stones.
Pastor Jared
It doesn't say how many stones.
Pastor Jabin
You cannot calculate the marble slabs.
Pastor Jared
But what. What is listed here?
Pastor Jabin
It is estimated that in modern US Dollars, if you translated it, David and the leaders gave between 1.6 to $2 billion. Just so you know, in the United.
Pastor Jared
States, 3% of Christians tithe. 3%. What, is there 900 people in this room? So out of 900, what would 3% of 9 of 900 be? Would that be 27 people? I'm one of them. I tithe. So after me, there would be 26 people left. That tithe that just.
Pastor Jabin
Just the bare minimum of what God.
Pastor Jared
Asks us to do, which is to give our 10%.
Pastor Jabin
Can you imagine what we could do if we could get that 3% all.
Pastor Jared
The way up to 10%.
Pastor Jabin
What holds Christianity back? Is it a lack of vision?
Pastor Jared
No.
Pastor Jabin
Is it a lack of creativity?
Pastor Jared
No.
Pastor Jabin
Is it a lack of need in the earth?
Pastor Jared
No.
Pastor Jabin
Is it a lack of purpose or cause or motivation?
Pastor Jared
No. You want to know what it is? It's a lack of willing hearts.
Pastor Jabin
A lack of willing hearts results in.
Pastor Jared
A lack of provision for God's house.
Pastor Jabin
And I wonder if these men knew something we don't know. I wonder if these men believed something that we have yet to have found.
Pastor Jared
So that we can choose to believe it.
Pastor Jabin
I wonder if there is something critical in their mindset that if we got their mindset put into our minds, it would change how we viewed the body of Christ and, and how we viewed ourselves within the body of Christ. Now let me also remind you that not one of these people was saved. All of these people were under the law. Jesus had not yet come. They're all under the law. Where under the law there was blessing and cursing. And you were blessed if you followed the law and cursed if you didn't. Except no man could follow the law. And if you were guilty of one aspect of the law, you were guilty of the entire law. Just so you know, me standing on this stage today, I would be guilty of one part of the law. Because under the law you could not mix fabrics. So my cotton and whatever this is.
Pastor Jared
I'd be guilty of all of it, therefore cursing.
Pastor Jabin
And we live in a better covenant with better promises, with no more cursing where the wrath of God was poured on Jesus. And yet these men gave so willingly. And when they gave, they rejoiced.
Pastor Jared
Verse 14, David shows us what it is that they knew that we don't know. He begins to sing and celebrate.
Pastor Jabin
He blesses the name of God. He exalts the name of God above every other name.
Pastor Jared
And in verse 14 he says, but who am I?
Pastor Jabin
See once again we see his humility. And who are my people that we should be able to offer so willingly as this?
Pastor Jared
Here it is. Number one for all things come from you. I wonder if you believe that today.
Pastor Jabin
Do you believe that everything good you have in your life came from God? If you don't believe it, then let me say to you, that's what the Bible says in James, chapter 5. The Bible tells us that everything good we have, it came from the Father of Lights. I hear people say all the time.
Pastor Jared
You know, I'm a self made man. Oh stop it.
Pastor Jabin
You can't make your own breakfast. You're not a self made man. Your wife makes your bed for you.
Pastor Jared
I'm a self made man.
Pastor Jabin
You sitting here full, full of pride and hubris, acting like God did not open doors that you could have never opened on your own. Acting like God didn't heal you in ways that you could have never gotten restored in that manner. You're saying I'm a self made man. Like God didn't bring specific people into your life along your path. I know you put in hard work. I know you got stabbed in the back along the way. I know people left you.
Pastor Jared
I know.
Pastor Jabin
I know sometimes it felt like you were on your own. But you weren't on your own. The Holy Spirit was uplifting you the entire time. And God was putting you in the right place at the right time with the right people making the right things happen. Don't sit here in your hubris and say I'm a self made man.
Pastor Jared
No, the truth is, is that everything good we have, it came from God.
Pastor Jabin
And when we understand that, gratitude begins to overwhelm our lives. And we see our house and our money and our cars and our children and our marriage and our clothing and we say, God, thank you. Thank you for what you've given me. Thank you for this business, thank you for this job, thank you for these ideas. Thank you for the very breath in my lungs.
Congregant or Church Member
Thank you for my family. Thank you for my church where every.
Pastor Jabin
Sunday I enter the presence of God.
Congregant or Church Member
God, I thank you.
Pastor Jabin
Everything I have, it came from God.
Pastor Jared
And then number two and of your own we have given you. Oh, see, there it is.
Pastor Jabin
That's how you can offer so willingly. You can give with joy and celebration and happiness when you understand that everything good I have, it came from God. And when I give, I'm just giving to God what was his in the first place.
Congregant or Church Member
It's not even mine.
Pastor Jabin
I'm not entitled to it. I don't possess it. I don't even own it. I am a steward of what God has given me. So when he prompts me to build the house, when he prompts me to be a part of the baptismal, when he prompts me to move the church.
Congregant or Church Member
Forward, I freely give.
Pastor Jabin
I don't begrudge it. I don't resent it. I'm not mad about it. It is my delight to give towards it because I'm just giving back to God a portion of what he gave.
Pastor Jared
Me in the first place. And this won't be the last.
Pastor Jabin
In a couple years we'll be talking about a future campus and it'll cost more than this one.
Pastor Jared
Cost.
Pastor Jabin
Are you Kidding me? The church that we're involved in, we.
Congregant or Church Member
Just opened a new building. It's already too small.
Pastor Jabin
I was here in July.
Congregant or Church Member
We had three services. Now we have five. I'm coming back next year. What are we gonna do?
Pastor Jared
Seven.
Congregant or Church Member
Yo, I'm down. Let's do it. Are you kidding me? That means people are getting saved. They're getting born again, they're getting delivered, they're getting redeemed. Their marriage is getting. Alcoholism is being broken. I'll be here all day. We'll do 10. And we'll have church every night if there's enough people to come.
Pastor Jared
So I ask you today, do you have a willing heart? Do you have a willing heart?
Pastor Jabin
Father, I pray in the name of.
Pastor Jared
Jesus that you will speak to every person in this room, every person watching on YouTube that loves this church.
Pastor Jabin
And Holy Spirit.
Pastor Jared
I ask you to begin to reveal to them what they would do during miracle offering. Lord, I know in services like this.
Pastor Jabin
You even prompt people to do things immediately. And I pray that they'll obey, that they'll even give today. If you've already revealed to them, I pray that they'll do it today. They won't wait. They won't talk themselves out of it. No matter what we're going to do. If we're giving a dollar, we give a dollar with a joy. With joy in our hearts. If all we can do right now is serve, then we sign up to serve. If we're giving a thousand or ten thousand or one hundred thousand or a million, God, I do. I pray that we don't give it. Begrudging. We give it because you've given it to us. And we just give back to you a portion of what you gave to us in Jesus name.
Pastor Jared
Now, let me tell you one last.
Pastor Jabin
Thing.
Pastor Jared
Because to me, this is just the most powerful part of this story.
Pastor Jabin
If you have your Bible open, the.
Pastor Jared
Story I read to you is at the end of the Book of Chronicles. It's the last chapter. If you look at Second Chronicles, the first title says, Solomon requests wisdom.
Pastor Jabin
Chapter 2, 3, 4, 5.
Pastor Jared
Solomon not David. Solomon begins to build the temple.
Pastor Jabin
When you read it, you never hear David's name. You don't hear any of the names of the leaders.
Pastor Jared
Do you want to know why? Because they all died. They all went to eternity. Why is that powerful? I know this will resonate in this church because this is part of the culture of this church. From the very first miracle offering ever given for the house of God. It was given by a bunch of men and women who knew they would never even see that house be built. They would never walk in. You want to know why they gave it? They gave it because the house of God, since the first house of God, has always been a house for the next generation.
Pastor Jabin
And that is the greatest act of.
Pastor Jared
Selflessness that you can find. That truly is generosity. And I pray you will give for the future.
