Foreign what's up, everyone? And welcome back to the Jabyn Chavez Leadership Podcast, where this week we are thinking about our thinking. We want to be thinking the right thoughts. As a man thinketh, so is he. This is what the proverb writer writes in Proverbs 23:7. And we are trying to level up our thinking in 2026. We are not wanting to start a new year with the same old stinking thinking. And so we are leveling up. Last week we talked about two of those things that we want to correct. We, we don't want to think work, life, balance. We do want to think integration. We don't want to think us versus them. We do want to think us. And I talked about that. And if you did not watch last week's episode, I want to make sure you do that. Let's keep on this track and here's the next one. Don't think lack, do think abundance. Don't think lack. Don't approach life, don't approach ministry. Don't approach decisions from a place of lack, do think abundance in everything. You know, even, even the word currency current, it's got to move. You're actually going to have to spend money to do ministry. You're like, if you're really doing it, you're going to have to take steps of faith where it's like, we don't have enough. I'm not talking about being irresponsible. I'm not talking about spending money you don't have. But I am talking about like, it's, it's not always going to be there on paper. You're not always going to have enough volunteers, you're not always going to have enough resource. If you're, Ecclesiastes said, if you're waiting for perfect weather, you're never going to sow. You're never going to do anything. So, so I'm not waiting on perfect weather. I'm not waiting on everything to be perfectly aligned. So you can't think lack, do think abundance. There is no lack in the kingdom of God. So don't, don't approach ministry with the mentality of cost and lack. Now, again, I'm not saying be irresponsible. I'm not saying don't, as Jesus said, count the cost. In, in that sense, what I, what I mean is not everything is going to make sense on paper. Sometimes you're going to have to stretch. Sometimes you're going to have to obey God and walk out on the water. Sometimes you're going to have to believe that God's going to speak to the people to get behind the vision. And so I just, I never want to think lack, I never want to think price. I want to think do we need to do. What's God calling us to do? What do we believe God is speaking to us? Let's start there and then let's start creating a plan around the word of the Lord, not what does it cost? Does that, did that make sense to you? Now on the flip side, sometimes you might have all the people and all the resources and all the things and God says no, you're not doing that. You're not know I was, I was thinking about that with our friends in, in Singapore at New Creation Church. They have one just unbelievable, stunning location and then they have other locations where basically you can go and watch. But they're not, they're not even like traditional campuses. They're more like just full live stream services. Okay, they could start more campuses. They have the people, they have the resource, they have the money. But they're not just starting locations because they have the people and the money. They're only going to start locations if the Holy Spirit leads them to do it. I just think, don't, don't go either way. Well, we can't do that. We don't have the money. We can't do that. We don't have the volunteers or yeah, yeah, let's do it because we have the money and the volunteers. Wait a minute. How about being led by the Lord? Don't think lack, think abundance, think spirit led, think. What is God calling us to do? Remember the children of Israel in numbers 13. We are grasshoppers. That's such a lack mentality. Don't think that way. Think nevertheless at your word. We've been fishing all night. But nevertheless, at your word, whatever you tell us to do, Lord, we're going to do it and we're going to trust you for the supply. Don't think lack, do think abundance. Number four. Don't think isolation, do think community. Don't think isolation. Do think community. Whatever you're doing, let me especially when we talk to, to team members. Whatever you can do with someone else, you should be doing with them. Hey, I'm making phone calls. Come help me make phone calls. Hey, I'm sending out letters. Come help me send out letters. Hey, I'm making a schedule. Come help me make a schedule. Hey, I'm, I'm gonna, I'm cleaning toys at the kids ministry. Come help me clean toys at kids. What, Whatever you can do with Someone else, you should be doing it with someone else. You should be finding people that are on fire, involved, have a possible ministry gift and say, come along with me. That's what Paul did with Timothy. Paul looked at Timothy and said, man, there's something on this kid. Come, come with me. Come with me on a journey. Come, come with me on a mission. Come with me as I'm going to preach, but come with me. Don't think isolation. Don't think, you know, Elijah going, I'm the only one left. No, think community. Our mission statement for our staff, for our staff is to equip and empower the serve team to do the work of ministry. The work of the ministry. The mission statement of the staff of City Light church is to equip and empower the serve team to do the work of the ministry. So it's about empowering team members. It's about equipping volunteers. It's about equipping those who are serving. It's about, it's about, you know, like our, our serve team is a lot of people now. It's a. It's like a mega church in of itself. So I want to make sure that our serve team is feeling equipped. Our serve team is feeling empowered. Our serve team is feeling needed and known. Our serve team is feeling resourced. So the serve team is equipping and empowering. Excuse me. The staff is equipping and empowering the serve team to do the work of the ministry. The staff isn't just doing the work. The staff is doing the work with the teams. Don't think isolation. Don't think. It's all on me. Do think community. Lastly, number five. Don't think fear. Do think faith. Don't think fear. Do you think faith? Don't do things from a spirit of fear. Do things from a spirit of faith. This is a big deal because I think what can happen is people come into your church with opinions and ideas and I say, come in. People just have opinions and ideas. And if you, if, if you're not careful, you will. In an attempt to keep them or in an attempt to win them or in an attempt of just man, I just, I want them to be happy. You could end up doing things in your ministry that you're not called to do. So, you know, like we do, we do small groups. We don't do men's ministry, women's ministry. We do small groups. So people come into our church and go, where's the women's ministry? Oh, we have small groups three times a year. No but where's the women's ministry? Oh, we do courses and there's women's classes. Where's the women's ministry? Well, what they want is, they want 1990s women's ministry, which is a. In a class somewhere with 30 or 40 women that meets every week at Tuesday night at 6pm we don't do that. We do small groups. Where's the men's ministry? Well, what they want is they want Saturday morning breakfast at 6am every week. We don't do that. That's not wrong. Well, you know, at our last church, we did that. Well, I don't know why you left your last church, but. But we don't do that. You got to be so careful about this or man that, you know, we're just not feeling connected and man, we just, you know, we want to be using more of our gifts and. Okay, I, I want that for you too, but for whatever reason, for you to not be able to use your gifts and be connected here, I don't. I don't know why you're not able to do that. But this is what we do. And I, I can't change my vision because one person doesn't feel connected. Now, again, make moves and make changes and always be working on and tweaking and improving the ministry, but always do it from a spirit of faith, not from a spirit of fear. I want to make sure. I was telling our staff this. I want to make sure that we are addressing the needs of our church family. Without changing the vision of the church. So I want to make sure that we're leading our church, but leading the church is not the pursuit of making sure everyone in our church is happy. We are attempting to lead and fulfill the vision God has given us. Not make everyone happy if you want to make everyone happy. One person said this. You want to make everyone happy? Serve ice cream. Don't be a leader. I forgot who said that, but it's so true. So you'll. You'll end up with two or three people that aren't happy. You'll ignore the thousands or the hundreds that are thriving, and you'll, You'll. You'll end up creating something for people that aren't even bought in. You gotta be. You gotta be so careful of this. And I see it all the time, and I feel it. There are so many people who have opinions about City Light Church, and I don't understand why that happens. I don't understand how they feel like God drew them here. They got planted here. They got locked in here. And now they want to change it. I don't. I don't even know why that happens. I'm not judging them for doing it. I'm not. I'm not saying they're bad people. I'm saying that I have to be the leader who's led by the spirit and not by the conversations of the people. I'm not saying they're complaining. I'm not saying they're murmuring. I'm not saying they're bad people. I'm saying I have to guard my spirit against making decisions based off of fear, not based off of faith. That's what I'm saying. And you've got to be so careful of this. You got to know your vision. You got to know the voice of the Holy Spirit. You need to be led by the Holy Spirit. I think sometimes people can bring ideas that are actually good in God, but you just gotta be so careful or you will. You will end up. You know, it's like. It's like Moses brings the people out of Egypt and they immediately go, we want to go back. We missed the leeks and onions. You know, Moses didn't go, yeah, yeah, yeah, all right, yeah, let's go back. No, he knew that He. He knew he couldn't do that again. Just be careful. That as a pastor, A genuine complaint rose up in the church. The women weren't getting food right. In Acts, chapter 6, the apostles did not grab an apron and start serving food. They said, we must stay committed to the word in prayer. And then they raised up deacons or leaders to help do that. They saw an issue in the church, but they didn't lose focus. They saw where the church could improve, but they didn't lose focus of what they were called to. I'm just saying be careful. There. There can be real complaints that rise up in your church. You go, oh, wow, this is a. This is a hole. This is a. This is a. We're missing it here. This is a. This is a blind spot. We've got to correct it. That can happen. But you don't get sidetracked from the word in prayer, because that's what God's called you to do. In Jesus name, amen. I love you. I hope you're liking and subscribing and following us along here on the City Light Vegas pages. You're amazing. I'm praying for you. And we will see you next week. God bless you.
