Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions."You're not rich when you get everything YOU WANT. You're rich when you want what you ALREADY HAVE.Three Big Ideas About ContentmentContentment is LEARNED; it's not NATURAL.The more you GET, the more you WANT.Philippians 4:12 I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.Contentment isn't a place you ARRIVE at in the future. It's an attitude you EMBRACE today.Philippians 4:13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.You can't CONSUME your way to happiness. You CONTENT your way to happiness with what you have.2. CONTENTMENT begins when COMPARISON ends.Ecclesiastes 4:4 Then I observed that most people are motivated to success because they envy their neighbors. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.Exodus 20:17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."As long as you COMPARE, you'll never be CONTENT.1 Timothy 6:6–8 But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.1 Timothy 6:9–10 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.1 Timothy 6:17–18 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.1 Timothy 6:19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.Contentment requires a vision to consume less so you can GIVE more. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.When we GIVE, we are most like JESUS.

John 21:3-12 Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” “We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night. At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was. He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore. The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards from shore. When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread.“Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,” Jesus said. So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadn’t torn. “Now come and have some breakfast!” Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish. This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead.Go back to the START, in order to MOVE FORWARD.When you don’t know what to do, go back to the last time you were WITH JESUS.Revelation 2:5 Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first.When you don’t know what to do, BE OBEDIENT.Matthew 28:10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”1 John 5:3 For this is what love for God is: to keep his commands. And his commands are not a burden.My level of OBEDIENCE reveals my level of TRUST in Him.When you RETURN and OBEY, DAYBREAK will always come.Lamentations 3:22-23 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.Psalm 30:5 Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.Jesus often meets us not in the middle of the FIGHT, but at the DAWN of a new day.When Jesus is involved, SOME becomes ABUNDANT.Jesus cares for the WHOLE PERSON.He provides for their NEEDS = 153 large fishHe provides for their SOULS = breakfast at the beachHe provides for their SPIRITS = redemption and callingWhen we read the Bible searching for ANSWERS, we don't always find them, but we always find a FULL PICTURE of who GOD is.John 21: 15-17 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”God REDEEMS your past, REWRITES your story, and REAFFIRMS your purpose.

But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.What do people EXPERIENCE when they experience YOU?1. The Beatitudes are a SEASONING process.God wants to SEASON you before He SENDS you.Romans 5:3–5 We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.What if your current season isn’t PUNISHMENT? What if it’s a SEASONING?2. Salt is not meant for the SHAKER. Its purpose is in what it TOUCHES.Your seasoning is meant to be EXPERIENCED.Colossians 4:5-6 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.Salt in the shaker has POTENTIAL, but salt in contact has PURPOSE.Salt changes the FLAVOR of everything it touches.

If you are truly living a godly life, is it natural to be persecuted?2 Timothy 3:12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.Matthew 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. persecuted: idea of being chased or pursued good translation: to be consistently harassedPUNISHMENT is the result of doing what is WRONG.PERSECUTION is the result of doing what is RIGHT. ENEMY fire. FRIENDLY fire. FAMILY fire.3 Blessings That Come From Persecution:1. Persecution PROVES our faith.John 15:20 Remember the word that I said to you: “A servant is not greater than his master.” If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.SUFFERING is not a choice. PERSECUTION is a choice.Do not WORRY when you are persecuted. Worry when you are NEVER persecuted.Matthew 5:11-12 Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Romans 12:18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 1. Predetermine to be a peacemaker Definition of peacemaker: Eirēnopoios Eirene = peace or wholeness Poieo = to make, to do, or to create A peacemaker chooses to be a BRIDGE of reconciliation to people who DON’T KNOW peace to a GOD WHO IS peace. John 13:35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. Romans 12:9-21 “Marks of a True Christian” Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. 2. Practically be a peacemaker Matthew 5:47 If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. 3. Portray the original Peacemaker Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.Romans 15:5-6 May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Isaiah 26:3 You keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.Jeremiah 17:9 The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?Matthew 15:19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.The impurity of our hearts can block the blessing of God in our lives.1. Examine your motivesPsalm 139:23-24 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.Have you examined the motives of your heart?Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.The motives of your heart must be filtered by the truth of God’s word.2. Realign your desiresPsalm 37:4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.The more time you spend with God, the more your desires begin to change.3. Devote your heartMatthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.Our hearts can only serve one master.Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.A pure heart isn’t a perfect heart. It’s a heart that is undivided.Psalm 51:9-11 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.

Mercy is less about giving someone a piece of your MIND, and more about giving someone a piece of your HEART. Have I prioritized a relationship of mercy, or of justice? Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals - one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 23:32-34 #2 Mercy SEES. Mercy sees PEOPLE how God sees PEOPLE. Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his own image. Psalm 139:14 I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.”“There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry,‘Mine!’” - Abraham Kuyper Mercy sees SOULS, not ISSUES. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9 People aren’t your PROBLEM, they’re your CALLING. One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at Him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:39-43 #3 Mercy FREES Mercy = FORGIVENESS For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:23-24 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 You simply cannot be MERCIFUL if you cannot FORGIVE. If you can extend FORGIVENESS, God will overflow you with His MERCY.
