Send us Fan MailChange can be hard. Not just the things that are different but the hard part of trusting God in the midst of it, especially when things don't seem to make sense. Maybe it's a job loss, a death in the family, a relationship shift or a painful betrayal... or maybe it's something else entirely that you're facing that makes focusing on Christ feel difficult. No matter the situation, keeping our eyes on Jesus is key. This week I had the wonderful opportunity to have one of my mentors share on this very topic. Brenda L. Yoder, LMHC, is a licensed mental health counselor, author, educator, parent, and grandparent. She grew up in the Shipshewana community, where simplicity, service, and faith weren't just ideals, they were the rhythm of daily life. Those values still run through everything she does. For over 25 years, she has served as a therapist, school counselor, and teacher, learning that the most meaningful change happens not in a hurry, but in unhurried, authentic connection.Conversation Highlights:Life happens and things change but God has a beautiful plan in it allWe need to steward what God has given us and that takes a consistent shifting and looking at our valuesRecognizing that there are endings God creates, we don’t plan them, but they are for a purposeIn the spaces that are uncomfortable we have to keep returning to God for his guidance & peaceGod uses change to transform us more into his image & draw us closerConnect with Brenda!Brenda's WebsiteBrenda on IGGet the Book!Brenda on SubstackSupport the showWant to go deeper into the conversation? Send us Fan MailI don't know about you but I struggle with lies and the battle in my mind a lot. There are times when the enemy is so sneaky that I don't even recognize the lie... have you been there too? This week we are breaking up and ending our unhealthy relationship with lies and we are dismantling them once and for all. That is where our wonderful guest Gary Thomas steps in. You may have heard of him but have you heard of his newest book? It's all about dismantling lies that Christians specifically believe. He broke down a few with me during the episode and it was pure gold!!! (more on this in the weekly newsletter! Sign up below!) Gary Thomas is a bestselling author and international speaker whose ministry strives to bring people closer to Christ and closer to others. He has sold over 2 million copies of his books, translated into over a dozen languages, and won many awards, helping establish him as a thought leader in spiritual formation, marriage and parenting. Gary served on the teaching team at Second Baptist Church in Houston for 11 years and is currently teaching at Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. His ministry has led him to speaking events in all 50 states and in nine different countries, including numerous television and radio programs. wisdom doesn't happen on accident, it's something that has to be pursued. When we dismantle the lies, we can keep our eyes on Jesus more easily. This isn't easy and it's going to cause us to truly look at what we believe and what is truth but my goodness is it going to bless us and deepen our relationship with Christ in a way nothing else can! I hope you'll take on the challenge and go through Gary's book with an open heart and willing mind. This could be the shift in your life you've been waiting for. Conversation Highlights:Spiritual lies can be passed down and believed without us questioning themMany Christians are spiritually reborn but not mentally transformedDismantling lies requires rejecting cultural values and actively pursuing biblical wisdom which Scripture values more than gold or silverWe can be addicted to comfort but God uses discomfort to build character and prepare us for ministryConnect with Gary!Gary's WebsiteGary on IGGet the Book!Gary on SubstackGet the newsletter HERE!Support the showWant to go deeper into the conversation? Send us Fan MailMaybe you've heard this episode before and maybe you haven't but either way we need a reminder that we can trust God's faithfulness even in the unseen and unknown things of our life. This is a rerelease of an episode from season 5 of the podcast. It's the most listened to episode in the history of the podcast so I think it's one worth sharing again. Renee Helmkamp is a mom, grandma, faithful follower of Jesus and so many other things. She may wear a lot of hats but in each area she humbly follow the Lord. It's not always easy but it is always worth it. The plan is to have her back on the podcast at some point and get an update on the things she shared, but for now we are going to listen back to where God had her a few years ago. He has continued to take her on new adventures but sometimes hearing about the old ones encourages our souls in fresh ways!We talk about releasing our days into God's hand and how it can lead to the adventure of a lifetime. Enjoy the journey that God has you on, and cling to him all along the way. He is faithful! God is with us in the big things of life but also the small things, there is nothing in your life that he doesn't care about. He sees what you think might be insignificant and not worth asking him about, but he cares and loves you so much. Conversation Highlights:Living a fully surrendered life is not easy but it’s worth itWe can make excuses as to why we can’t obey God but he will always debunk itOur dependence on the Lord will increase as we say yes to His callingOur feelings follow our actions, don’t wait until you feel ready to say yes to God’s callingEmbrace a mindset of adventureBe in constant communication with the Lord, He will answerSupport the showWant to go deeper into the conversation? Send us Fan MailThis week we are talking about a topic that I am PASSIONATE about!! Studying the Bible!! You all know how much I love studying the Bible and how important it is for each of us to be doing that. I know it can be scary and feel complicated but I'm here to tell you that it doesn't have to be! Reading scripture was never meant to be hard. We humans tend to overcomplicate it and it's time we put an end to that. This week I invited Pastor Daniel Goepfrich to chat about how we can practically study scripture and actually understand it. You will see below that he has years and years of experience in this area and it is a real treat to have him share with us!! Daniel Goepfrich (ThM, DMin) has been the Teaching Pastor at Oak Tree Community Church for more than 20 years and it's local to my neck of the woods over in South Bend, IN! He teaches Greek for Calvary University and Bible exposition and theology for Word of Life International Bible Institutes and National Theological College and Graduate School. He is an Associate Professor of Greek and Hebrew at Agathon University and served for 15 years as Professor of Bible and Theology at Tyndale Theological Seminary. He regularly speaks for international conferences, seminars, and training. In 2017, he founded Theology is for Everyone to produce biblically sound resources that everyone can use and understand. He is the author of Hermeneutics for Everyone, Biblical Discipleship, a three-volume Chapter by Chapter commentary series on the entire Bible, and Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage. He has also written several journal articles and contributed to multiauthor works. Daniel and Saralynn have been married since 1997. They have four grown children who are married and several grandchildren.Conversation Highlights:Hermeneutics = the science and art of interpretationWe don’t need a special code to understand scripture, just a willingness to learn and understandScripture was written FOR us, and we weren’t the original audience for itContext is vitally important in Bible studyA.C.T.S. Send us Fan MailI know... I'm just as surprised as you are about this week's episode. A solo episode... what?? Those don't happen very often so when they do, I stop and pause extra long to hear what God has for them. This time the Holy Spirit led me down a path that I never recognized before that makes total sense now! If you have Jesus as your personal savior and you accepted the free gift of salvation then you know that the resurrection changed your life. Looking at the cross and seeing it empty alongside an empty tomb makes a massive impact in your life. But the question God asked me to pose is what we do with that information after our initial salvation. What difference does the resurrection make in our lives beyond the point of accepting Jesus as our personal savior? Should it change how we live daily? The answer is yes but a lot of us don't know what that looks like practically. How does the resurrection change our daily life? That's what is discussed this week on the podcast. A solo episode that dives into this topic that will hopefully help you approach Easter Sunday differently this year. Conversation Highlights:If Jesus would have been a regular person his death and resurrection wouldn’t have meant anything to us, becasue He is God it means our sins are forgivenWe have to start living like the resurrection changes things in our lifeYou don’t have to prove your worth to anyone because you belong to GodBecause Jesus lives we are free, we belong, we are made new and we have hope that can not die!Connect with Kala!Kala's WebsiteOnline Courses to Embrace God Kala on IGSupport the showWant to go deeper into the conversation? Bill McConnell has spent more than 40 years in the film industry, working on iconic movies such as Steel Magnolias, Cape Fear, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Friday Night Lights, and The Truman Show.
