Root canals are never necessary, ever.
Dr. Kelly Blodgett (0:03)
We've normalized killing teeth, leaving a dead organ attached to living jawbone. My mother, who is currently 81 years old, we take this tooth out that had been root canaled when she was 14 years old. That dead tooth had been in her jawbone for 67 years. And I have literally never seen blacker roots.

One of the most common dental procedures in the world, tooth extractions, is making people sick by the millions. One of the top holistic dentists in the country and my friend Dr. Kelly Blodgett is back to discuss jawbone cavitations. Why he says most people don't need a root canal, at least not at the frequency we're handing them out. The deal with crowns. How flossing daily really will transform your health. It did mine and I'll tell you why I'm not a fan of hydroxyapatite in my toothpaste. Visit his practice, Blodgett Dental in Portland, Oregon and enjoy the airport, because the Portland airport is my absolute favorite. Dr. Blodgett's new book, feel whole Again. Your humanistic guide to healthcare comes out this September. Watch this episode on the real Alex Clark YouTube channel or culture apothecary on Spotify, which also has video. Things you may have noticed look a little different for this episode because we are filming in the why Refy studio. My studio is out of commission at the TPUSA offices at the moment because they found ancient bones in the walls. Crazy stuff. Might send them to the local children's museum to use in one of those archaeology sand pits. That's actually where the bones are from that they use at those museums, you know, people's walls. So anyway, big thanks to Wirefly. They really helped us in a pinch. Anyways, if you tolerate me even in the slightest, it would mean a to leave a five star review saying so. This show is free and your reviews help keep the lights on in more ways than one. If you wish that you had more conservative non toxic friends, join the cute servatives Facebook group. Please welcome holistic dentist Dr. Kelly Blodgett to culture apothecary. So root canals are never necessary, ever?

Well, no, I wouldn't say that. Okay, so if a tooth's in pain, you know, like let's say somebody had a big, big cavity in a tooth, maybe they had a filling and now the tooth hurts and they're not ready to take the tooth out. Something like that, then it would be, in my opinion, a wiser choice to get the person out of pain and Do a root canal and hold on until they can afford to do something else that might be more definitive and better for health long term. The idea, however, that doing a root canal, once it's done, that, oh, the tooth's good for the rest of your life, I think is misinformation. And sadly, I find that most people who go in and invest a couple thousand dollars, let's say, to have a tooth quote, unquote, saved with a root canal, you know, they walk away thinking, like, geez, I just invested all this time and money and now it's not going to be good in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, something like that. I wish more people were informed when they were choosing a root canal. Unfortunately, oftentimes they don't feel like they're choosing it because the dentist will say, you need a root canal.
