We're fast approaching the end of the year, and with it being the last episode of season 2 we thought it would be a good opportunity to reflect on our favourite work we've done this year, as well as looking ahead and discussing what we'd like to achieve moving forwards, and what we'd like to see happen in the industry in the future. If you've enjoyed this season of Cuppa VO, please do get in touch with us, comment, like & subscribe so we can continue to bring you more very soon. No we're not crazy - sometimes it's good for your business to turn down work and this week, Lizzie and I will explain why that is and share some of our stories as examples of the reasons that not every job is meant for you.We delve into stories about bad rates, bad clients and bad moves, so strap in and enjoy the ride! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This week Lizzie and I will be talking about the various scenarios where you will be expected to push yourself out of your comfort zone in Voiceover, as well as how our individual personalities can also have an effect on that. Terrified of social events? Worried about trying a new genre of VO? We’ve got you covered. We’ll also be exploring the occasions where stepping out of your comfort zone can be a bad thing, and when it’s best to trust your gut! Hosted on Acast. It happens to the best of us, one minute you’re doing great and getting lots of repeat work with the same client, then the next - nothing. But how do you deal with that? It might be you, or it might be down to external factors such as brand boycotts, rebranding, budget cuts, or a whole myriad of other reasons.Lizzie and I discuss our stories of how (as well as why) this happened to us, and try to look at the positives that come out of losing clients. We’ve not seen many other podcasts discussing the less glamorous or exciting side of running a VO business, for example, what do you do when illness, family matters and other things happen in life but you still need to continue recording and carry on with your work commitments. This week, Lizzie and I are discussing how difficult it is to record when you are going through a tough time (whatever the reason may be), and how sometimes its best to stop and look after yourself, whereas others it might be to carry on working. During this episode we also touch on voice notes, travel kits and working while on holiday. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

I'm back for Season 2, and this time I'm bringing on board an amazing Voiceover Artist, Coach, and all-round lovely lady, Lizzie Jobling to be my co-host - so strap in for honest conversations as we get straight into it - what is a typical day in the life of a Voiceover Artist really like? And - spoiler alert - it's not wall-to-wall 5 figure Commercial gigs! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Knowing how much to charge for each project can be a minefield, especially if you’re just starting out. The temptation to undercut or offer ‘beginner’ rates comes with consequences, so it’s important to educate yourself, clients and other VOs on the implications of usage and how it affects the fees we charge for Voiceover.Timestamps:00:00 - Welcome to Cuppa VO00:38 - Episode Opener (Abi Clip)00:48 - Intro to Usage & Rates02:32 - Guest Introductions02:56 - Lizzie04:28 - Sam05:53 - Darren06:30 - Abi10:04 - Ally13:25 - Ant15:15 - Recap and the dilemma with scalable rates16:16 - Trailer for Ep 1217:04 - CloserGuest Bios:Abi Philips is a multi-award-winning young British Female Voiceover Artist / Actress recording in her broadcast-quality home studio just outside of London.Alexia Kombou is a multi award-winning British Female VoiceOver, helping brands big and small to connect with their customers through voice.Ally Murphy is an English Female Voiceover and Actress, with a neutral British accent based in the Pacific North West.Anthony Hewson is a multi-award-nominated English Male Voiceover Artist and Voice Actor, with a naturally RP voice.Clare Reeves is a professional Voiceover Artist who combines her warm voice with a cool dynamic delivery that is full of fresh sea air.Darren Altman is an award-winning Voice Actor, Impressionist, Corporate Presenter and Live Events Host based in London.Jack Oddie is a multi award-winning Northern Voiceover Artist, with a professional studio, based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
