The following podcast is a Dear Media production. Bratman to Earth. Earth to Bratman. Girl, you already know who it is.
B
Hey.
A
Hello, everybody. It is Thursday yet again, and I have two special guests for y' all this week.
B
And.
A
And also, this is my first official guest. Kind of. That isn't family or friend. Well. Oh, my God. You guys are my friends. Not like. Not like, I have my girl here, and she's a home bestie. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. You didn't. We weren't friends since, like, Gap Tooth days, were we?
C
Right. No.
A
Yeah. You saw me after my. I think so, because Alyssa sent me a picture of what?
C
When you guys met for the first time.
A
We met for the first time at Big Con.
C
Yeah. Yeah, you were. You were already.
A
Girl, I'm already sucking at being a host. AJ And Alyssa Raphael, everybody.
C
Thanks for having us so iconic that we're in here.
A
Well, I know why you guys are here, but why are you guys in Hawaii?
B
Yes, You.
C
You go. Oh, thanks.
B
We're here because we're playing a show at Blue Note, December 4th. Whenever you're listening to this could be in the Past.
C
Right.
B
Hey. And we're on the Christmas tour.
C
Yep.
B
Yeah. So Honolulu, Napa Valley, and la. And we're here for the show.
A
I don't know when we'll slate this, but this will probably either be a week before Christmas.
B
Okay, okay.
A
Or after Christmas.
B
Yes. So you would have gone to the show. Maybe.
C
Yeah.
A
So there's a chance that we already had our little Merry Christmas.
C
Yeah. And you got your merch. Wear it.
A
Yes. I love that Hawaii is always in the stop of your tours, aj. Why is that?
B
Well, it was, like, one of the first places that played my music on the radio back in, like, 2010.
A
Oh, my gosh. Wait, do you remember who played it?
B
I don't remember the radio station, but I kept getting tagged on Instagram. I was like, no way. I need to go.
A
I feel like it would be 127, the bomb.
C
Probably. Yeah.
B
Would it be the one?
A
I feel like, because they have a DJ named Chris. Shout out Chris.
C
Hey, Chris.
A
Love him down.
B
Filipino.
A
He's Filipino.
B
Yeah.
A
And he's always putting us on. Because my first time on being on the radio was also through him, but other people were interviewing, so I would say maybe it's 1027, the bomb, or 104.3.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
One of those.
C
Yeah.
A
I.
B
Back in 20, maybe 2007 or 8. I had a layover from going to the Philippines in Hawaii, and I Just put on my MySpace, I said, hey, does anyone want to say hi? I have a layover. And, like, oh, like, 10 people came, and I was like, whoa, this is amazing. Like, people all the way in Hawaii.
A
Did you feel famous?
B
I did at that time. I was like, this is amazing. 10 people, wow.
A
Yeah.
B
And I'm still friends with them on Facebook.
C
Oh, my God.
B
But then years later, when Red roses came out. 2011, then I heard that my music was playing here, and I love it. I love.
A
I can confirm that it very much was playing here if it wasn't on the radio. Is definitely playing on my YouTube channel.
C
Oh, my God.
A
You got removed.
C
Oh, my God.
A
I don't know if y' all know, but me and AJ really do have beef. He just doesn't know we have beef. But I remembered my first YouTube video ever got deleted because we could have. It was playing in the background of it. And honestly, AJ has been public enemy since. I was literally like, damn, you can't even put your Filipino people on.
B
I had no idea. No, no, no. I know you're kidding, but, you know, back then, YouTube had, like, an automatic content ID for sure. It's just, like, so stupid.
C
You didn't do it, right?
B
Stupid.
C
Yeah.
B
Yeah, I didn't do it.
C
Okay, good.
B
It was not about.
A
I know. Right, right, right. He didn't do it, bro.
B
Yo. But when we first met, you did tell me that I had misunderstood, and I thought maybe you did a cover of We Could Happen for your first.
A
You don't want me singing, bro. You do not want me singing. You guys, last time AJ was here, he was like, oh, do you want to sing with me, bitch? I will stand there and be pretty. Like, that's the most you're going to get. Like, if I start singing singing, like, nobody will ever.
B
You did sing.
A
Yeah, I said. I said words. I don't know if singing was a part of it.
C
We've heard you sing a little bit.
A
Yeah. Wait, so what can we expect for this Christmas show? Alyssa?
C
We are singing. So we're. It's a mix of, like, your favorite Christmas classics and a few original songs.
A
Are we getting any Christmas caroling? Yes. I mean, like, not Christmas. Filipino Christmas.
C
Yes. Okay, because we have two Tagalog songs that we're doing in this set, which are. Yes, of course.
B
Oh, no, no.
C
You can add that in the method.
B
Pascona Sintako.
C
Yeah.
A
Okay. Ew.
C
I know. They're both sides, bitch.
A
Fix that.
C
They're both.
A
Say it one more. Pasco, Nacintaco.
B
Bitch. Re.
A
Say that.
B
Oh, my God. Stop. You're going to get everyone name me.
A
Okay, thank you.
B
I have to sing it to get my accent right.
A
I was literally like, who the is this white man in the room with us?
C
Like, oh, my God. Yeah, babe.
B
Okay, what's yours?
C
Sana nayong pasco.
A
Again.
C
Sana nayong pasco.
A
Sanangayong pasco. Nayon nayong. Period. Anyway, sang that one more set.
C
She has a version of it. Sarah Hieronymo is the one I've been listening to, but I think the original singers, Ariel Rivera. Rivera, yeah.
A
Speaking of Christmas caroling, did you guys ever experience any of that back home in the motherland?
B
Oh, yes.
A
You did.
B
Have you been in.
C
I haven't been.
B
Well, we didn't spend Christmas.
C
We were after. It was after Christmas.
B
Yeah. So I would go to, like, Simbangabe and. Yeah, that's like, part of my. Well, I went for the first time when I was 16 and then just seen all the caroling and.
A
Yeah. Wait, so you actually, like, went around the houses and sang caroling and waited for money?
B
Yes, yes, yes.
A
Thank you, thank you. And if they don't bring money. Angdadamot nino. Yeah, exactly.
B
Super, super.
C
Wait, when does that happen in the Philippines?
A
Like, oh, girl. By Vermont. Don't nobody seriously than us, girl. September. I'm caroling. And I remembered we would have to make our. What is the thing that goes like this? It's like a tambourine. Is it a tambourine?
C
Yeah, tambourine.
A
Tambourine, yeah. We would make it with, like, a wire, right. And we would flatten all of the tops for, like, the Cokes. Like, you know how the Cokes back home, it's not like this. It's like an actual Coke can or Coke bottle. And we flatten them.
B
We flatten them to be the little bells.
A
Yeah. And then we poke a hole through with a nail and we put it through the wire, and that becomes our little thing.
C
Oh, my gosh, that's so cool. Wait, so you caroled?
A
Oh, girl, I performed. I'm sorry.
C
Oh, my God.
A
I was giving Sing dance manager and also, like, the cmo, because I would be the one, like, putting the money, like, you get 7 pesos, 12, 20 for me. Because I sang and dance. You know what I mean?
C
You're a business woman.
A
Yes, I was a businesswoman of color Only. Only.
C
Oh, my God.
A
Do you guys have any special memories of going to the Philippines for the holidays?
C
You do?
B
Yeah.
A
I mean, I'm sure you do.
C
I'm sure you do. I've only been once for the holidays. It was. And it was after the holidays to the Philippines. Yeah, I've been once in the Philippines.
A
Oh, my God.
C
Alyssa was so late.
A
We have to go together. I know.
B
Bring her.
C
Been wanting to go back.
A
I'm the best host of being home.
C
Because, like, I would love to.
A
It's so fun. We need to go after. Let's go after your show.
C
Okay.
B
Yeah, let's do it.
C
No, seriously, I'm down. We've been wanting to go.
A
All right.
B
We're booking it right now.
A
Well, no, you are. Right? Well, you weren't you already kind of. Because you said you're going to Japan.
C
I want to go to Japan. We just haven't.
A
Oh, you wanted to go to Japan. Okay. Because last time they were here.
C
Yeah, I know.
A
You guys. Them to my favorite Crab Shack.
B
Yes.
A
How was that amazing Singaporean Cafe shout out to you.
B
Hey. Thank you.
C
We talk on DMs.
A
Really? Me and the.
C
Me and the shop.
A
Yeah, that. Oh, my gosh. You're like, these bitches don't even know what they're coming. They don't know what's coming for them this December, girl.
C
Oh, my God.
B
Yeah. Are they coming to the show?
C
I should have invited them.
A
Invite them.
C
I will.
A
We could literally get free crap.
B
Come to the show right now.
C
I will, I will. This is a personal invite. I'll DM them later. No, but I told them because they were commenting on. I did a video, like a For good, but in Tagalog, and they commented on it. Or they, like, DM'd me about it. They're like, this is so beautiful. And I was like, we're gonna be. Yeah. They're like, we're gonna be back on Oahu. Yeah. But I didn't invite them to the show.
A
I should invite them, period. Okay. But I was getting at is. We went to Ala Moana after because I really wanted to show you guys Mango. Mango, yes. Which is where we found out that AJ is no longer allergic to dairy. Exactly. Because me and Asia were both lactose girlies.
B
Well, I was allergic. My throat would close.
C
You like that?
B
Yeah.
A
You weren't just lactose, right?
B
It wasn't just anaphylactic. It was just, like, my throat and then my tongue.
A
But now I see in your story you're trying something new, like, every week, girl.
C
Like, what the.
A
Everyday you really be, like, testing life.
C
No, seriously. Seriously.
B
No, the joke is like, I don't want to be like, imagine me 50 pounds later just like, hey, so I'm trying this for the first time, and everyone's just watching because they feel bad, like, you know. Yeah.
A
What kind of things?
B
I don't want that.
A
What are your favorite dairy things that you've tried since Jack in the Box Ranch? Oh, I saw that. You just had tried that. I love Jack in the Back in the Box Ranch. I love a Wendy's Baconator meal.
C
Oh, we haven't been to Wendy's.
B
See? Yeah, I haven't had many burgers with cheese. Like, I just had a double double for the first time. And Costco pizza.
C
Yeah.
B
Pretty good.
A
Yeah.
B
And croissants.
C
Oh, he likes croissants.
A
Oh, period.
B
Yeah, Just regular.
A
Do you guys have any favorite Hawaii meals? Like, what's your first when you. When you land? Because Bishop always be here. But when you are here, what is the first stop?
C
It's usually poke. We either go to Foodland, Tanioka's, or.
B
Alicia's because it's so close to the air.
C
Yeah, Alicia's Market.
A
Are you having me on? You've never been. I've had it. Yeah, I've had it.
C
We were there today.
B
It's meat and poke.
C
Yeah.
B
You could choose, like, turkey tail. Turkey tail?
A
Yep.
B
You know, short rib, salmon. Salmon or roast pork.
A
And then I have never been.
B
What's your favorite poke on? Well, I had the green onion today. It was pretty good.
A
Oh, so good. They have a wasabi masago one.
C
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, I saw that one.
A
There's a sushi restaurant near the airport as well, called Mitches.
C
Oh, we've never tried that one.
A
It's really good, apparently. Well, not apparently. I know for a fact Jason Momoa was always there because they have, like, a Jason Momoa, like, photos and stuff. Like, he has a meal. Like, he has. Like, he's on the menu. I love that. And I'm trying to visit as much as possible so I can make it in the menu. Oh, my God.
C
Oh, my God.
A
You know what I mean? You know what I mean?
B
Wow. That'd be an awesome. Just shout them out right here. Tell them.
C
Yeah. Hey, Mitches.
B
Which is let us know.
A
I'll do an ad read for you, girl.
C
That's a great deal.
B
We used to go to Zippy's. Yeah, we used to sing off the plane.
A
Now, what is your Zippy's order? And there is a right and wrong answer. So please.
B
There is. There is.
C
I get a zip pack.
A
We'll start off with the wrong answer. I guess let's just start Off a basic one. Okay.
C
What's the right answer?
A
When people come here and they don't know what to get, they get the zip pack.
C
Like, oh, I guess that's me.
A
Say you have.
B
It starts with a kid. It's all different. I get the Korean fried chicken. There you go.
A
Thank you so much.
B
Oh, is that the right answer?
A
Thank you for the. That's the correct answer.
B
That's the one.
C
That's the right answer.
A
And if you're feeling extra skinny, you'll get the Korean chicken salad. Yeah.
B
Yes, yes. Just on top of the salad.
C
I've never had.
B
You haven't?
C
No, I've had the chicken, but I've never had the salad.
A
Oh, you'd love the salad.
D
I just.
C
I don't know.
A
Makes you feel a large delicoy. My mouth is watering.
C
Sounds good. We have to go.
B
What's yours besides it? Korean fried chicken.
A
Besides Korean fried chicken, I love like a classic chili chicken plate. It comes with two fried chicken chili and then just rice. That's like when I used to go to the clubs, like when I. Before 21, like that I would literally. I would literally go to the club. Well, yeah. No, literally, I was.
B
Yeah.
A
Oh, oh, and. Oh, well, literally. You guys. You guys know this. Like, after I turned 21, I stopped going out.
C
Yeah, yeah, same.
A
Because I was sneaking in. They would sneak me in all the time since I was like 18. And then I kind of got it out of my system.
C
Yeah, that's. That's good.
A
You know, you have to get it out of your system.
C
Yeah. While you're still young and nimble like, you can. Yeah. Do it.
A
When was the last time you guys went out? Do y' all even go out?
B
Probably. Well, remember we tried to drag you to the club after our Hawaii show?
C
You went in and you went like.
A
I'm out of here, girl. It's just like I don't like being touched.
C
Yeah, I get it. Come lately, you know.
B
You know Andrew tranquil. He didn't know. I don't think he explained too much to us that it was going to.
C
Be like that he was down to.
B
This place, you know, it's a little after thing. I kind of thought it was going to be more of a lounge, but it ended up just being a sweaty club.
A
Yes, Andrew. I didn't realize that Andrew, like, runs all the clubs.
C
Of course. Yeah, everything.
A
Like he does. He does like my ad work. Because when I. Because he's also my videographer, we do like most of my ads. Like, he'll come and do my ads, and it's like, oh, I gotta go. I got to go soon. And then he's like, at the club. I'm like, oh, my gosh. He does it all. Yeah.
B
So the last time we went clubbing probably was then. Was that.
C
I think so. Years ago.
B
Two years ago. Two years ago.
A
Oh, after your show. Yeah.
C
Not the last time we were here, too.
A
Yeah. Wait, so why were you here last? Oh, because you had to deal with. Okay, okay, okay. I'm getting my days mixed up. Yeah. There are nowhere.
C
This is our fifth trip this year.
B
I know, girl.
A
What. What do you love about Hawaii the most? Damn. Like, move in already. Y' all look like us anyways.
B
No, you know what? When everyone always tried to be like, come on in a discount, and I'm like, no, no, we're not.
A
We're like. I just. Look.
C
I know, because I'm also like, flip flops and stuff.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Or like, at Diamond Head, you know, they're like, just walk in. I'm like, no. Pay the tourist fee.
C
Yeah.
B
You know what I mean?
A
Right? Oh, girl, knowing me, I'll be like, yeah. How's it.
B
The. The plate lunches get a little fuller if you're.
D
Foreign. Hi, I'm Elizabeth Endres, a wellness founder. For nearly a decade, my passion for feeling really good and commitment to the deep inner work have led me here, where I'll be sharing all the modalities that have helped me and sitting down weekly for unfiltered conversations with healers, practitioners, founders, and dear friends. I truly didn't believe emotions caused chronic symptoms until I started healing and realizing that my type a, highly sensitive personality was very much linked to my skin and gut issues, pelvic pain, and more. If you were the sensitive one in the family growing up, the Wellness Process Podcast is for you. You can listen to the Wellness Process Podcast wherever you get your podcasts. I am so happy you're here.
A
What's your most favorite part about Hawaii, Alyssa?
C
The people. I don't know. I love the people here.
A
Okay. She said, I want to be where the people are.
C
No, it's just like, I. It always feels like a. Like a second home whenever we're here.
D
Just.
C
Even when we're in just Waikiki. Like, just the aunties, everyone that we talk to, even, like, the valet at our hotel, like, they're all so cool.
B
They all knew the last time we were on island.
C
Yeah. They're like, we saw you guys at the last hotel.
A
You're a big deal here, girl.
B
Well, we did get married here.
C
Yes.
B
You were.
A
Yeah, yeah, we were there. Oh, that was so iconic. You guys. You guys make me feel like I need to have two weddings.
B
Oh, my gosh.
C
You do.
A
Oh, my gosh.
C
You should have three.
A
Honestly, like, one here, one in the Philippines. The Philippines?
B
Yes.
A
And then I don't know where the other one would be, but, like. Like, no. Ew. He hates. I don't know nobody that. It would just be you. Y' all just go marry us. It'll be very intimate of a wedding.
B
Bitch.
A
I don't know nobody there. I feel like I would do a destination one. Like.
C
Yeah.
A
You know, like, we would probably elope somewhere. That would be the first wedding, like, in Italy. So I could do a Italy photo shoot like that. Then do one here.
C
I'm picturing it now.
A
Exactly.
C
I don't even know what the other person.
A
You know, and she might.
B
But yes. Thank you for coming to our wedding.
A
That was so iconic. My favorite memory was Dante Bosco at my table. I really hit it off with the wives. Because you also had Romeo. Yeah. And his. Oh, my God.
B
Oh, my God.
A
I'm literally about to lose my local card. Babe.
B
No, he doesn't say his name.
C
He doesn't say his name. A lot of people don't even know that's his name.
A
I know it's his name because my friends named him. Named their son Roman after him.
B
Wow.
A
Well, not. I don't know if it's after him, but, like, they loved him, so I'm pretty sure it was kind of influenced.
B
Yeah. So Cat, his wife was also at that table.
A
Yeah. And now I see them all the time.
B
Oh, my good.
A
Ah, cats. Yeah, she goes.
C
She.
A
She goes to yoga. I see them all the time. I see them here on this side also. They're not even from this side.
C
Yeah, they probably live. I don't remember where they live. We went to their house once.
A
But that was such a fun wedding. I also met your sister.
C
Yes.
A
You know what's so crazy? I walked in and I'm like, alyssa's right there. And then I was like, she. I. You literally look like your sister.
C
Oh, my God. Wait, there's a funny story about that, about our wedding.
B
Oh, what is it?
C
Because the. The. The song.
B
Okay, Our friend.
C
You missed this part, so.
A
Oh, yeah. I'm coming from the other side of the fucking. I have to say my case. I live on the other fucking side of the island. And they wanted an afternoon wedding, and I was literally like, girl, it wasn't noon. It was like. I went.
C
It was like two or three years.
A
I was there at four. Like, right before the sun. No, actually, no, the sun was setting, so I was there.
C
You were there around, like, golden.
A
Yeah, I had to. I had to come with the lighting.
B
Well, I didn't know that they were going to start right at four as well because I kept hearing island. You know, island time.
A
Yeah.
B
But then the coordinator was like, all right, we're starting.
C
Yeah.
B
Oh, my God. Bretman's not here.
C
I know. We kept looking. We're like, we're not here yet.
A
Tell me what I missed. Okay.
B
So our friend Blank played the cues for the music coming out. And I'm very particular about the music because, you know, because I play a lot of weddings and I timed everything well.
A
It's your shit. You're quite literally a musician or something like that.
C
Something like that, yeah.
B
Whatever. So I'm doing Jurassic park theme song for the bridal party, which was so nice, you know, it was like string version. And then the next thing was supposed to be for Alyssa when she comes down, which is Diaries theme song.
A
I already know where this is going.
B
So she's supposed to walk down the stairs, and then it's supposed to be Keena Granis. Wise men say, as I hit the session, as she hits the end and she's coming down and I'm speaking crying. Like, I had it all in my head.
A
Yeah.
B
He thought Lauren was me.
C
So he played the wrong cue.
B
So he played the cues. Kept going. The cues. And Alyssa got down the stairs.
C
No music.
B
There was no music coming up.
A
That would have been me as fuck. I would have cued Lauren in this, the bride. And I was so confident, too. I was telling Ms. K because Ms. K was with me. I'm like, she's right there. I don't know why she's not, like, in her.
C
In her white dress.
A
No. Because I was like, did we miss everything?
C
Like, is this the second dress?
A
Because that was. We. We probably only saw each other once or twice prior to your wedding.
C
Yeah. Yeah, I think, like.
A
And, like. And every time that we did see each other, it's always through passing. It's like, yeah, yeah.
C
Not that.
A
Like, I'd be studying people's faces, but I never really, like, sat there and, like, looked at your face. I just thought it was your sister. I mean, that you were your sister.
C
Fair. We look. We're like. We look like twins.
B
So we hadn't hung out, but you invited us to your birthday party a week.
C
The week it was like two days before.
A
Wasn't that so fun?
C
That was so fun. It was a core memory, honestly.
A
And then you guys came to the 100 Bretman Rock.
C
Yeah, that one was fun too.
A
My next big one is my 30th.
C
So.
A
I've been doing like humble parties as of then because, girl, my business manager was like, if you want to make it to your 50s, like, and.
C
You keep saving it.
A
Yeah, yeah. And it was like, bitch, save it. So I've been doing more low key ones, especially after I almost drowned on my 20. I saw that.
B
Oh, the yacht one.
A
Very much that.
C
Yeah, you see the videos?
A
So basically, the current, they basically took us out on a day that you shouldn't be out boating. And then they parked the boat and then they were like, okay, y' all can jump. Because at that point I was already getting seasick. So they were like, oh, when you. When you swim, you'll get less seasick. Yeah, I jumped. The current took me and they. I couldn't hear nobody. I literally thought I was just floating. And I was like, wait, why is the boat getting smaller? Wait, what? And then they were like, brett, come back. You couldn't. I was swimming back and I was getting farther, girl.
C
And that's my biggest fear.
A
The lifeguard literally comes and saved me.
C
Okay, good.
A
And she starts teaching me how to swim under the current. So she's like, we gotta go under the current and swim, bitch. At that point, you better best believe I was already fucking tired.
C
Oh, my God.
A
And she couldn't also swim through the current, so. And then the third, second lifeguard comes in. Bitch. And that at that point, they had to like, literally circle the whole boat around us, which is very dangerous.
C
No way.
A
And I just had to come swim to the. And then I. Thankfully, I have like, a lot of surfer friends shout out to Alyssa and ha. Who literally came and saved the day. They dove in, like, Alyssa came in like Aquaman girl. I was like, oh, God, she saves you. Yeah.
C
Wait, I only saw the aftermath. I didn't. Well, obviously nobody was recording that I could hear.
B
Why were people recording you, though? Drowning?
A
No. Yeah, it was serious.
C
No. Yeah, like, they were.
A
They were like, oh, my God, he can't swim.
C
Yeah.
A
And I'm like, not the best swimmer. I can float. I can stay alive.
C
But, like, having to go under the current, that's scary.
A
Yeah.
B
Thank God.
C
I know. Thank God you're still with us.
B
Yeah.
A
Okay. I want to ask some music questions next because obviously you guys are musicians. I obviously that Gene Skips Me of being Filipino. I feel like Filipinos are either three things. And you guys can choose to agree or not, but we are either singers, cooks, or pretty. Like Miss Universe or. You know what I mean? And I chose pretty. Like, I mean, I didn't even choose. I was just like, oh, I guess I can't sing. Like, I. I. Like, I would be too powerful. And if I cook, I actually agree. And if I cook on top of.
C
That, oh, my God, girl, it'd be so hard.
A
I would be like, Martha, sewer up in this. So I wanted to say what is. Or wanted to ask. I. What I wanted to ask you guys. What was the first song you've ever, ever, like, known from your earliest memory?
B
Ever known, like, memorized?
A
Well, just like, I guess, like, from your earliest days. Like, what was the first song that, like, you were like, oh, this is.
B
A song I love.
C
I know what mine.
B
I love that question. Go ahead.
C
Mine is Reflection, of course. Leia Salonga version.
A
Are we only shocked? Like, are we shocked?
C
It's the first song I ever learned to. And I think I was like, three or something.
A
Why do I feel like you had a little sense of calling from that, too?
C
I think. I think I did.
A
Because you were like, yeah, who is that girl? I see.
C
Right? The lyrics spoke to me.
A
Why am I seeing her?
C
Right? And I'm still singing it.
B
Yeah, that's true.
C
Yeah.
A
We'll talk about it later. But she was Mulan, y'. All. She is the baddest Mulan there ever is or was.
B
Disney queen. Disney princess. Mine was. I think this is kind of crazy. It's on Bended Me From Boys to Men.
A
Oh, that's a good one.
C
That's a good one. But that was your first.
B
I mean, that and all my life, Casey and Jojo. I just remember because they had piano intros, you know, And I remember probably because I was already playing the piano when I was. Was five years old, so.
D
Wow.
B
Yeah. I feel like that was maybe a calling, too. Yeah. Not a fly. I feel like a lot of Asian kids.
A
Yeah.
C
But not a lot. Stick with it.
A
Yeah. Yeah. I'm. Are you pitch perfect?
B
I. I have relative pitch, which is, like, you can kind of guess around the area.
A
Or Pitch perfect adjacent.
B
Yes. Yeah.
A
Right. I feel like you should start saying that.
C
Pitch perfect adjacent.
A
Because Pitch perfect relevant. Like, like, what the.
B
Well, no. Is that at music school, it was a big deal to be you, to have perfect pitch. Like, you know, Charlie Put is a good one. Who went to our school? Who's pitch perfect?
A
Where did we go to school?
B
Berkeley. College of Music in Boston or whatever. Wow. I'm just saying the name of the school. I'm just saying the name of the school. Anyway, to some people, it would bother them if things were out of tune and whatnot.
C
Yeah.
B
So I'm kind of almost thankful that.
A
I don't have it, you know?
B
Don't have it. Because even when people are singing Happy Birthday.
A
Yeah.
B
People with perfect pitch at school would.
C
Be like, oh, wow, their ears are so sensitive.
A
Imagine, like, I could. I don't even have pitch period, let alone pitch perfect.
C
Oh, my.
A
Wait, when did you pick up piano?
B
My mom tells everybody.
A
Wait, can I guess?
B
Yeah.
A
Was it for church?
B
Ooh, it was. It was, yes. But, like, getting piano lessons and stuff. Five years old. Like, my dad was teaching me because he was a pianist. Yeah.
A
Oh, period.
B
Yeah. Yeah. So he. He taught me a lot when I was younger age. My mom said that I was, like, trying to play already when I was two and a half.
C
That's great.
B
Which is unbelievable.
A
So I'm so true. I. I see. I. I just saw a video last, this, like, a couple weeks ago of, like, this little kid drumming and like. Like, everything was like a child. And now he's, like, amazing. And he's only five still.
C
Oh, my God.
A
I feel like some of us are just born with it.
B
Yeah, it's possible. It's possible. But, yeah, I. I started trying to play for the church, and then when my dad died, because he is a church musician, I took over for him at 10 years old.
A
Alyssa, besides your throat, do you play an instrument?
B
No.
C
I love the way you phrase that. I always.
A
I be in here.
C
Like.
B
Like.
C
No, I wish I did. I took piano lessons when I was younger, but I hated. Yeah. I hated practicing. I would end up just memorizing the piece instead of wanting to learn.
A
Yeah.
C
How to read the notes. So I still don't know how to read music.
A
I mean, I don't want to flex on y', all, but I do know how to play lemonade on ukulele. Everybody does.
C
I really like the good one.
A
It's like three chords.
B
Three chords. Yeah.
A
Yeah, yeah, girl.
C
I should learn that one.
B
You should learn that one.
C
Just to say I could do it.
A
Yeah. I'm like, I know how to play lemonade. Like, what. What about. Not Beyonce. Lemonade. But. But jra, don't ever play Jeremy.
B
Passion. But yes.
A
Oh, where's Jra?
B
Jra? Yeah.
C
Hi. Different song.
B
You just cut my eyes.
A
You guys. I miss that era so Much.
C
Me too.
A
Like, that era tickles me. Oh, what do you remember? What are your favorite songs from that era?
C
Me.
A
Oh, and by era, if you guys are, you know, weren't around in that era, because I do have younger audience.
B
That's true.
A
We're talking about, like YouTube Music Era of 28,008 to 2014. I would say yes.
C
Yeah. That was like the golden, golden age.
B
Asian American YouTubers doing music. Gabe Bundock, Jeremy Passion, Tina Grannis, Jesse Brerra. Jino.
A
You get it?
C
Yeah, yeah, yeah. All them.
A
Aj what are besides your songs?
B
My own songs. I mean, I do. I want to shout out one of my songs that I wrote with Jesse bur she was mine because a lot of people play that at like, you know, family parties and stuff and they do duets with their cousins and things like that. But yeah, of course Lemonade is, you know, right.
A
What if. Do you remember any songs from that era?
C
Of course. I covered them all. She was mine. My friend Neiman that you met, he opened for AJ him and I did a cover of that song in high school.
A
Oh, my God.
C
We sang it.
B
That's crazy.
C
Rally.
B
That's crazy.
C
And then it. So when we. When we were all doing the show together, we were all just like. It was crazy.
A
How long ago was that?
C
That was. Oh, not to age you, but 2012.
A
Oh, period.
C
Yeah.
A
What class were you?
C
2012. Oh, wait, it must have been 2011 because Neiman's older than me. Yeah, 2011.
A
You already had your high school reunion.
C
Yeah, we did.
A
He went, I cannot wait for my spices next year.
B
Gosh.
C
Oh, my God.
A
Next year. I was class of 17, so two more years.
C
Oh, my God.
A
But since I was in student console, I have to plan it. So I'm like, let's do it in my backyard. Oh, my God. I would never. I would never.
C
I was like, wait, what?
A
I don't want these holes in my house. No. I don't even like half of them.
B
Some of them are cool, I'm sure.
A
Yeah, for sure.
C
Are you still friends with people from.
A
I am. I.
B
Well, I.
A
Most of my friend group now that I would like what I was signing, I would say I have like 10 friends that I keep up to.
C
That's a lot.
A
Yeah, it is. And I'm very blessed. And these are friends that I'm like. Doesn't see me as like. Like they know me. Yeah, they. They're like, bitch, they knew you before. You still have a gap teeth in my head. You know what I mean? Like, if you say that Then I'm like, oh, let me humble down. Yeah, this bitch really do know me.
C
They ground you.
A
Yeah. You know what I mean?
C
For sure.
A
Back to music questions. My favorite song from that era besides yours would be Cheap Date by Lattea. Oh.
B
But yeah, Lattea was. She was not Filipino, was she?
A
I think she was, like, local here.
B
She was. Okay, cool. Yeah, that's a good one. That's Tumblr for sure.
A
Tumblr day. Hold on. The dogs.
C
Wait.
B
Also saying, this is my dad. She's.
A
Yes. Oh, my God, Ozzy. Why do I feel like that era was Loki a prime of yours? Do you remember songs from that era? Yes, bitch. What songs? Like, local ones? Yeah. Or no, just, like, from the music era. Just like Internet music. Oh. I think one. It's weird because it's like, I don't personally relate to it. I just, like, it resonated with me.
B
That's okay. This one's like a shout out to passion, but well done. Oh, yeah. I love that song. Because his grandma died.
A
Yeah.
B
But it was just. But you didn't have anyone who passed away. I didn't have anyone who passed away, but I see.
A
Okay. When he. When he put it out, and I.
B
Just like, you can. That's when I knew, like, music. Oh. On YouTube was just like, wow, they're.
A
Really putting music out there. I really care. Yeah. Yeah, that's cool. But, yeah. I want to know what your favorite songs of all time is.
C
Oh, I've never even asked you that question.
B
One that comes off the top. I don't want to miss it.
C
Aerosmith.
D
Yeah.
A
Okay. Oh, my gosh.
C
Don't want to close my eyes.
A
I don't want to fall asleep.
B
Cause I miss you, babe. And I don't want to miss a thing.
A
Right. Alyssa, what is yours? And with example, please.
B
Yeah. We need sample.
C
Sample after favorite song. That's hard. Really? Yeah. I don't. I've. I can't pick, like, a favorite song.
A
Girl, shut up.
C
What is it?
B
Sometimes by Britney Schools.
C
Oh, yeah. That's like my go to karaoke karaoke song.
B
Sometimes I was totally different.
C
What song are you singing? Sing yours.
A
I think it's from her song. It's called Blue Ivy. And the first word is Sometimes I feel the.
C
Wait. Beyonce.
A
Yes. When you look in your eyes.
C
Okay, I don't know that one.
A
You do know that one.
C
Let me. Let me listen to the recording.
A
Yeah, because like I said, no pitch.
B
We just can't decipher.
C
Yeah.
A
I'm like, okay. Gun to your Head.
B
Oh.
A
You need to know every lyric, every beat of this song. What are you saying to me? This.
B
I promise you. NSync, period.
A
Yeah. I feel like reflection for you.
C
Yeah, I was gonna say reflection, but I was trying to easy any Disney song. All new worlds, Colors of the wind. Part of the. Part of your world.
A
Okay.
C
I feel literally any Disney princess song.
A
Let's hear it. Because you didn't even sing for us your favorite song.
C
Well, Whole New World is a duet, so I can't see that one. Part of your world.
A
Yeah.
C
Look at this stuff. Isn't it neat? Wouldn't you think? My collection's complete. What did you think? I'm the girl. A girl who has everything.
A
Here he is. And she do have everything.
C
No, that's your song.
A
I'm kidding.
B
She does. She does.
A
Wait, Alyssa. I feel like you're the only guest that I've had so far that would actually care about this topic. But how did you feel about Wicked, Sue?
C
Okay.
A
Right.
C
I loved it.
A
Or just Wicked in general?
C
Wicked in general. Obsessed.
A
Right.
C
Some people were saying that Zootopia 2 is better than Wicked for good. And I haven't seen Wick. I haven't seen Zootopia 2 yet.
A
Yeah.
C
But I just can't believe that.
A
Yeah.
C
Did you watch both of them?
A
I haven't seen Zootopia too, but I've seen Wiki. Yes. Yeah, of course. Of course we watched it.
C
We watched it twice. We watched it at midnight and then we watched it in 40x.
A
Oh. Oh, my gosh. How was that?
B
Like the tornado. Nessaros were just like, ah.
C
It was amazing. There were bubbles. There was like. It smelled like flowers when they were like running through the. It was amazing. Yeah. Loved it for good. I was just crying. As soon as Ariana Grande started singing.
A
She heard them say, so good. Period. No, the second she said, I heard.
C
Them say, oh, my God.
A
Later, I was clutching my pearls. Girl.
C
The door scene.
A
Yeah.
C
That killed me.
A
Oh, that killed me. Trust, I will say. I mean, obviously my opinions don't matter. I'm not a theater kid. I've never claimed to be able to matter. But I love the first.
C
The first one more. Yeah.
A
The only thing is, like, thankfully I did a little bit of research of what Wicked 2 would be and what to expect and stuff like that. So if you didn't, I feel like it would be very confusing. Yeah. And it was just a little bit too jumpy for me. Like, a lot. It would jump from scene to scene. I'm like, is this a memory or Is this a. Yeah, now. You know what I mean? That's what.
C
We felt the same way. And we knew what we were getting into.
A
Right.
C
Like, knowing the musical and everything felt slow.
B
And then some parts, it felt really fast.
A
Yeah. And then it would jump from one scene to another, and then. I'm okay, girl.
C
I didn't love the new songs either. The new songs, same.
B
No place like home.
C
And I think they could have cut them in half.
A
Yeah.
C
I think they were just, like, a hair too long for me.
B
They grew on me, though. I love them now.
A
Yeah.
B
But, yeah, watching it at first, it took me a while to kind of get into it.
A
Yeah. What are some theater things that you guys think should be a movie?
B
Ooh, I love that question.
A
Can I go first?
C
Yes.
A
Well, it's already a movie, but honestly, they really ate up Mamma Mia. Like. Oh, yeah. That was my first. Well, I asked that question earlier about, like, what's your first awakening like to music? Mine was Mamma Mia. Because it was always on. Well, no, it wasn't, like, the first song I listened to, but it was, like, my first awakening to, like, musicals, I guess.
C
Actually, that's a good one where I.
A
Was like, oh, my God. My gosh. Wait, this is so cut.
B
Oh, my God.
C
That's a really good.
B
Yeah, I was in Mamma Mia. I played Pepper, so he was the one who was in the.
A
You were in Mamma Mia.
B
Yeah, just.
C
No, no. In a. In a theater, when they put up film.
B
You would have noticed me if I was in that.
A
I'm like, girl, you look like a fish out of water in that cast.
B
No, it was all Filipino.
A
All Filipino.
B
All Filipino. All Asian.
A
Yeah.
C
You would have loved.
B
You would have.
C
They added so much. It was so.
A
For the super trooper. Yeah.
B
Oh, my God.
C
I don't remember.
B
No, we put it in money. Money, money, money, money, money. Must be funny.
C
So epic.
A
Wait, I would pay to see that.
B
I have a recording. I'll give. I'll show you a clip.
A
And if they did it, like, Filipino style, it'd be quarta C. Yeah.
B
Context clues.
C
Yeah. Yeah.
A
Okay. So. Sorry, What? Our theater thing or musicals. Movies should be amazing.
C
We've talked about this before. There's a lot that they've already done.
B
Yeah. I would say tick, tick, boom. They obviously did that already, but that's. That was a good one.
A
Do you think they should redo it?
B
Well, I. I loved Andrew.
A
Why do you think they sucked?
B
I think they. No, it didn't suck. They made it more into, like, a Documentary type, like, you know, Jonathan Larson.
C
Yeah.
B
But I was in that musical last year and I feel like if they did a movie of that musical specifically, it would be cool.
C
I'm trying to think of what they haven't done already.
A
What do you think they should redo? Because somebody is be sucking ass, I think. I'm sorry. Like, some movie musicals make me hate musicals. Like, I'm sorry, like, which one? I'm not gonna say which ones.
C
I'm gonna guess.
A
But I do have my favorites. Have you guys watched?
B
No. No.
A
What's that, you guys? It's the best Bollywood music.
B
I heard Bollywood just going.
C
Yeah, I heard Bollywood's really good, girl. The dancing.
A
I'm sure the little faggy of me is like. Like, I live.
C
Where can we watch it?
A
They would have it here and there on Netflix. I think they have it currently on Netflix right now. But it's really good. I would recommend it for a flight. Like maybe on your way back.
C
Okay.
B
Okay.
C
Wait. It's called the Hutchie.
B
Okay.
C
Okay, I'll remember that. I want them to do wizard of Oz, but Wicked from like, from John Chu in this perspective.
A
Yeah. Keep it in this world.
C
Yes. Because I mean, we re watched the original one. Oh. Kind of recently.
A
Yeah.
C
Yeah. I just think we can redo it for sure.
A
Especially graphics wise, like Judy Garland, girl, I love you. Amazing it up, period. But I think just like graphically and just like visually in this day and age in our technology, it would just give.
C
It would be amazing.
B
But you know what? I heard that that original wizard of Oz in the wicked world, anyway, that wizard of Oz film is like propaganda from the Wizard. That's why he, you know. Oh. It's kind of like shows the good parts of the wizard and that's why it's all happy and stuff. But Wicked is like, you know, from the opposite. Yeah. Alphabet perspective.
C
So it would be a little different. If it would be a little different this version.
A
Do you guys believe that? Like, like, okay. In the world of wizard of Oz, the first one, you know how like Alphabet's like, I'll get you, my pretty.
C
Yeah.
A
And your pretty dog too. Do you think she was trying to save Dodo? Like, because she. Because you know how she's all about animals.
C
I love that.
A
And that was her first time seeing a dog in a leash. And I think Alphabet probably thought that Dodo was like in a leash because she didn't trust.
C
Yeah, yeah.
A
Like, I think she was trying to free Dodo. Like, I don't think she was Trying to kill Dodo.
B
Yeah.
C
Yeah. I didn't think about that, but that makes sense.
A
Yeah. Let's have a thunk.
B
Let's have a thing. Yeah, Yeah, I think that. Well, I heard that Toto.
C
Oh, yeah.
B
Was not.
A
Did I say Dodo? It's.
C
Wait, it's.
A
It's half.
C
I have to keep thinking, is it Toto or Toto?
B
Toto.
C
Oh, it's Toto.
B
Like, Toto. Like Africa.
A
Like Toto.
C
Okay. Yeah, yeah.
B
I wasn't trying to, like, correct you.
C
Yeah, no, he was.
A
I'm like, you know who I was talking about. Like, shut up.
B
I know, I know. That's why I was, you know, I knew who you're talking about. Like. Like, whatever language, you know, it doesn't matter. Toto was not on a leash in wizard of Oz. I think really hurt. But she's. Toto is on a leash in Wicked.
A
Yeah, right.
B
But, yes, I think that since it was her pet, I'm sure Elphaba or the Wicked Witch was trying to save.
A
Free him.
B
Free him. I like that.
C
Free him. See that on Tick Tock.
A
Yeah, I saw.
B
They have some good theories.
C
Yeah, I love the theories.
A
Also, Ms. K asked a very important question because we. We talked about it here a couple weeks ago. If you guys could add a character on the wizard of Oz. It doesn't have to be you playing it, obviously, but if you could add a character to it, who would you be? I answered that I would be, like, the Cowardly Lion's girlfriend. And I would be, like a Pink Panther.
C
Oh, that's cute. Wait, I love that.
B
Never thought of that.
A
Like, I would be the one that's giving him courage. You know what I mean? Like, we can do it, Daddy. Well, that's not what I would say.
B
I know, I know.
C
I would want to be in Glinda's family. So, like, Glinda's older sister. That wasn't as bratty, you know, because I just feel like Glinda, you know, grew up very privileged, but I think maybe like an older sister that, you know, kind of done did things her own way.
A
Yeah. That might actually explain why Galinda is such a pick. Me sometimes, too. Is like, maybe she's like. Like, look at me.
C
Yeah.
A
Like.
B
Yeah, yeah.
A
Very badly. That's. That's so good.
B
It's a good one.
A
Why would you eat that like that? Like.
C
No, she's thinking about it. I think I know what you're gonna say.
B
What?
C
Even though.
B
Was I gonna say Bach?
C
Something related to Bach.
B
Okay.
C
Come on. I Know you want to say it. Just say it.
A
No.
C
Say it. He's holding it back.
B
No, no, no.
C
He wants to let you guys know.
B
I auditioned and I was in callbacks for Bach for the movie. Whatever.
A
So you could have been Bob. Yeah.
C
And John Chu.
B
I've talked to John Chu about it again after. So I. I was in a direction.
A
Saving you for a wonderful wizard of Oz. That's what. That's what really, it is. You would eat as a munchkin.
B
Thanks. Seeing the Asian guy. Do you remember seeing the Asian munchkin?
C
I thought you would have at least gotten a munchkin.
B
When I saw him, I was like, oh, that's maybe close to what I would look like.
A
Yeah.
B
You know what I mean?
C
You could have been a man.
A
You could have been Bowen.
C
No one could have been Bowen. Bowen was perfect.
A
No, he ate that.
B
Yeah, he killed that. But no, I. I already knew. You know, it was a long shot, but it was cool. I. I'm, you know, met John Chu during the auditions. And then afterwards, like a year later when Wicked was already out, we talked again about. He's like, oh, my God, imagine if you were Bach. Like, you know, and he was like.
A
Why would he say that?
B
I know.
A
I'll be like, right, right.
B
Yeah. I think about it every day. I think about it every day.
A
Let's talk about it even in.
B
In the best way possible. Yeah, I know he's a great guy. But, yeah, I was. I was like, yeah, that. That would have been really cool. Thank you for the opportunity.
A
Right.
B
Yeah. It was also nice back and back.
A
So who would you be? Aj?
B
Yeah, I wasn't gonna be.
C
No, I wanted you to. It's a fun story.
A
Okay.
B
I think maybe maybe another munchkin. Maybe another munchkin who also got affected by the spell on accident. So part of me is tin. Oh, okay.
A
Because, like, what if there was like, two box in. In wizard of Oz and then she didn't specify which box.
B
Right.
A
And you were like, in the munchkin.
B
But only, like, half of me, you know, changed. So I also am mad at Elphaba, so I'm trying to find Bach, period.
C
Yeah, I like that.
B
Thanks. Thank you.
C
Get creative.
A
What are your most favorite musicals?
C
Ooh, my top three. West side Story is like, number one. It's like a classic. She was in high school, I was in high school. But I. I just love the.
A
Y' all make me feel like such a loser. Anything we brought up that either. Was in it, late in it, auditioned in it, thought about it. Like, damn, bitch. Can I ask a question?
B
Yeah.
C
West side Story is my favorite. It's a classic.
A
Okay.
B
What's your second?
C
I don't know.
B
Okay, well, mine is Rent.
A
Oh, I love Rent.
C
Is good.
A
Love Rent.
B
Rant.
A
I would be. You would know who I would be in Rant.
B
Angel.
A
Angel.
B
You would be a great Angel.
C
Would you ever do a musical and.
A
I would, yes. And his little song about the dog.
C
Oh, yeah.
B
Oh, my God. Today for you, tomorrow for me. Exactly, Bretton. We should make that happen.
A
You would have to sing for me, though, because, girl, you're just lip singing. Yes.
B
You could do it.
C
You could do it.
A
They just did a live one, right? Not just, but a couple years ago with Vanessa Hudgin.
B
Yeah.
A
We don't talk about Bruno.
C
I know, I know, I know.
B
And Jordan Fisher was Mark.
A
Yes. And Valentina was Angel.
B
Yes. The drag queen. And then was it Tinashe? Who was.
C
I don't remember who was.
A
I mean, me.
B
Anyway. Yeah, that was a. That was a great production.
A
It was.
B
Yeah. I love. You could. Okay. So I put on this show called Crazy Talented Asians Back Home, you know.
A
Back home in the Philippines.
B
No, Louisiana. And, you know, people.
A
Specify girl.
B
Well, that's the motherland for me. I didn't live there.
C
You did.
A
Well, yeah. There's no place like home.
B
No place like home.
A
Exactly.
B
Anyway, I do this show, and it's a cabaret, you know, we have people who don't sing whoever part of it and people who sing. You know, Dante Bosco was a part of it, and he. He doesn't sing, you know.
A
Right.
B
But we could have you come play angel for one of the songs.
A
I might, I guess. All right, cool.
B
We got him. Yeah, we got him.
C
I do one night only.
B
One night only Reverend Rock as you.
A
Flexing the things you've been in I'll have you know I'll have you know I was Aladdin in my third grade drama.
C
I knew that. I did know that.
B
Was that in the book?
C
Because you were in a lot of Halloween.
A
Yes. Oh, my God. Period. I ate that. The UP audition.
B
I was like, the Disney version.
A
That's me. Welcome to Agrabah. I really ate that.
B
Being nice.
C
Wait, what grade were you in?
A
Third.
C
So they didn't make you kiss Jasmine?
A
No, I had to hug her in the end. And even then I was, like, shaking. Hug a girl. That's crazy.
B
Yeah, that's cute. I love that.
A
I love a whole new world. Shout out to Ms. Leia. Yes. Did you guys ever see the Filipino production that she did in New York a couple years. Love here lies love. Were y'.
D
All.
B
Y'. All.
A
I'm scared to ask. Were y' all in it?
C
Well.
A
Your sister was.
B
No, no, no. She. She was in another Broadway show called and Juliet around that time.
A
Juliet, yes.
B
Yeah, And Juliet.
C
AJ went in for it, too. We both did.
B
Yeah. But whatever. Didn't book it, so it's fine.
C
It's coming to la.
B
It is coming to la. And my sister Justine is in it.
A
Shout out to Ms. Justine. We live for you, girl.
B
So Lea Salonga played Aurora. The mom.
C
Yeah, the mom.
B
Ninoy Aquino. And she killed it. She comes in for one song and she's done.
C
Yeah.
A
She's who, you.
B
Yeah.
A
Queen.
B
That's amazing. That's what they call a princess track, you know?
A
Yeah.
C
That's the goal.
B
That's. Yeah. To go in, get your paycheck, you.
C
Know, after seeing one song, she ate every night, though. She had, like, tears in her eyes.
B
She was amazing. She was so good. But I went one night, came to say hi after, and these fans, you know, Filipinos, like, probably 40s, 50s, they came in and rushed Leia as if they knew her. And Leia, I remember.
A
And they. Yes. And they followed her get their dressing room.
B
But I was there one night, and she was like. I don't know them. To me and my friend Macy. So me and Macy were holding them back, and they acted like they, you know, were entitled to.
A
Yeah, that's the thing. Like, I remembered one time I was in the Philippines, of course, and I was in a rush, like, getting. Well, I wasn't even in a rush. I think, like, I just. We couldn't take pictures in. In that specific spot. And there was this older lady, Filipino, obviously. And then I was like, oh, Auntie, we're not allowed to take pictures here. Because I. I think there was, like, other things. And she was like, but I'm a senior citizen. And I'm like. Like, I don't know what the. That means. Like, I don't know why being old means I'm allowed to take word.
B
Yeah. What?
A
Because I'm gonna be the one getting in trouble. But I'm literally like, girl, you can't be entitled to a picture because you're old.
B
Yeah. So what did you do?
C
What did you do?
A
I was like, auntie, we can go over here. And she's like, no. And I'm like, no, then no. The. Let me match your energy. No, then no. And, like, she didn't even know who I was. So it's like literally like, girl, you don't even. You're just asking me for a photo because somebody told you that I'm a vlogger.
C
Yeah, yeah. There's a lot.
B
I hate that.
A
Yeah, yeah.
B
Entitlement is tough. It does happen a lot with the Filipinos in. In that space, I think.
A
Yeah. But it's just like, girl, know your. There's time and place for everything and there's respect.
B
I think that needs to happen because, I mean, I feel like maybe it's because there's a lot of singers and talented people in the Philippines and they. I'll know somebody who is famous or know who wants. But you know, if Lea Salonga doesn't know you and you're out here trying to like grab her and stuff.
A
Yeah, you can. Yeah, you can be entitled to that. Okay, let's talk about more life stuff because, girl, all this music stuff is really making my head hurt because I'm like, I'm really scared that I have to sing again. Does your dog eat? Still eat her.
C
It hasn't happened in a while.
B
But she.
C
She ate a piece when she's like, bored.
B
Not her own though.
A
Me when I'm bored. Me when I'm bored. Honest, I can't. Can we blame him?
C
Oh my God. Wait, doesn't your dog do that too?
A
They. I. That's why I was texting you about it. Because they stopped. Remember I was like telling you how I got them to stop.
C
Yeah, but it didn't work. You said you got that.
A
I got that.
C
That style.
A
And it says like, give one, dog.
C
No, it didn't work. I gave three. Oh, maybe we needed a pod.
A
I would give three a day. I don't give a fuck. It was like, like one serving per dog. Give one. I'm like, you're getting three.
B
Yeah. And it makes your poop taste really gross.
A
Bitter. Yeah. So she would smell.
C
Maybe we should try it again and add more. Cuz we did it. And she didn't blink.
A
Like she still ate that.
C
She still ate it. A new flavor.
A
Bitterness. No, I remembered I gave her three one time. And like at midnight I just hear, oh my God.
C
See?
A
And I'm like, yes. But I woke up to everywhere. I'm like, damn, you couldn't at least clean it up?
C
Oh my God.
A
But yeah, ever since then she stopped though. But wishing you well for that.
B
Thank you.
C
Yeah.
A
Have you guys been married? Now? I should know this, but is it three years?
C
Yeah, three years. You're right.
A
What are three lessons you guys learned?
C
Oh, Nice.
A
Because. Not that, like, I plan on getting married. These aren't for me. It's just for curiosity. I don't want to manifest me getting married. Yeah.
C
We just talk about you getting married.
B
Three weddings.
A
Three weddings. Oh, yeah. Never mind.
C
We're gonna have a wedding.
A
Never mind. Never mind.
B
I would say turn into each other. So not turn into each other. Like become someone. Turn inwards. Right. That's the thing.
A
We.
C
We've.
B
We always, like, in public.
C
It's like the bird theory on Tick Tock.
A
Yeah.
C
I've seen it. Like, I don't know, finding interest in the other person's things.
A
Yeah.
C
Or hobbies. Or even like. Like something random. Like, I think we're really good about paying attention.
A
Enjoy what your partner enjoys.
C
Yeah.
B
Yeah. And if. If your partner is really excited about something, like not turning away and making them feel like what they like is dumb or whatever, you know, Like, I started watching the Bachelor and it doesn't have to be everything. You know what I mean? But now I have found some interest in it, and now I can appreciate because I've gotten to watch the Bachelor and Bachelorette, get why she likes it, and now I understand more about that world. And you do that with, like, the Lakers and stuff. Yeah.
C
I've been going to more sports.
A
Period.
C
Go Rams.
A
Period.
C
Go Lakers. Yeah, exactly. So I've. I've been enjoying going to sports games.
A
Okay, that was lesson number one.
C
Yeah.
A
Two more. Oh, one for every year, girl.
B
Oh, yeah. That was the first year. Because we got that advice from someone for our wedding. Wedding. Because, you know, a lot of in weddings.
C
No, we told them.
A
We told them that she was really your officiate.
C
It was.
B
That was crazy.
C
And then Alice caught the bouquet at our wedding, and then they got married.
A
And now they have a child on the way. Or already.
B
It's already out here.
C
It's almost like.
A
I swear I just saw them doing a reveal.
B
Yeah. Dunya.
A
Dunia means queen.
C
In Ilocano.
A
But like, like a. Like lady. Like lady.
C
They must know that.
B
They must know that.
C
Yeah. It's also, in her Uyghur language means something else.
A
Oh.
C
Period.
A
Yeah.
B
So that was our wedding. Like, turn inwards to each other. And then second year is about.
C
Well, I think we learned a lot about, like, leaning on each other because, like, you know, up and down of, like, finances and stuff. Like, just like. Like being okay with leaning on each other when we need help.
B
Yeah. When, you know, the hundred percent is like, not always 50, 50. Sometimes if Alyssa's 20, you got to be 80 or if I'm, you know.
A
Wow. I love that.
B
Yeah. You don't have to. Yes. It's an equal, like, partnership, but, you know, we have to pick each other up or.
C
And meet each other where we're at.
A
Yeah. Not that it's the same thing, but sometimes, even for the pod, I'll be like, kiefer, I'm a little down today. Like, can you, like.
B
Yeah. Can you pick. Exactly.
A
Can you pick up the energy more? Sometimes it's vice versa where people is, like, I don't know what the to talk about. Yeah. So I have to kind of, like, bring in more.
B
No, that's literally it. Even in, like, conversations with friends and stuff. If you're just tired of hosting or something, like, hey, can you. I'm sure that happens.
C
Yeah.
A
Yes.
B
Third year.
A
Third year this year. Oh, you spent your anniversary here last time, too.
B
Yeah, we did. Yeah.
C
Yeah, We. We tend to. What did we learn this year?
B
That it might be, you know, because we are talking about family and stuff and maybe having kids, that it's. It was our last. It might be our last kind of year.
C
Yeah. We've been cherishing just, like, time together.
A
Yeah, I love that. Yeah.
C
Just, like, enjoying each other's company, even when it's, like, little things.
A
What do you do when you're sick of aj? Do you ever get sick of aj?
C
I mean, I don't get. We don't. I don't get sick of him quickly. Like, I feel like, oh, thanks. We spend a lot. We spend a lot of time together. But then I miss you when you're gone, even if it's for, like, a few hours.
A
You're probably so immune to him now. You're just like, oh, girl.
C
That's what I mean. I do enjoy my alone time. And that's like, I have, like, little activities. Like my self care activity. I spend, like an hour in the bathroom every night.
A
I know that that was in every single speech at your wedding.
B
What?
A
Like, they're like, alyssa, don't play about her skin care.
C
Yeah, it's true.
A
Alyssa, don't play about her self care.
C
Yeah, I will, like, like, schedule a day to, like, go to the spa and just, like, spend a whole day there.
A
I love that.
C
If I just want to be by myself.
A
Wait, Alyssa, have you ever gotten, like, a scalp scrub thing we did in Japan?
C
Girl, I fell asleep the whole time because it felt so good.
A
Oh, girl. Same. I'm literally like, wait. I just sad.
C
Literally, I woke up and it was done. I was so Sad. Yeah.
A
No, it felt really good. Have you ever gotten like the Korean body scrub? Is it Korean or Japanese?
C
Japanese. I think it's Korean. Yeah.
A
Yeah.
C
I have not. I haven't actually.
A
Wait.
C
Yes, I have.
A
Oh, period.
C
Yes. I have.
A
In.
C
We have like Korean spas in LA that I've been to before.
A
Wait, I just have to ask because your skin is so good. Do you have any like, skin care? Not products, but maybe even tips?
C
Wash your face every day.
A
I period.
B
I. I mean, like, I didn't start doing that.
C
He didn't used to. And some of my friends. Friends don't. Like, I'm like, how do you not.
A
I watch people like that. Can. Can they be your friend?
C
I judge them. I do. Just in front of their mean. No. I'm like, you need to wash your face. Same. As soon as I get home, I'm washing my face.
A
Yeah. Oh, same. I don't care how drunk I am. Yeah. My makeup is coming off.
C
Absolutely. And I don't. I also don't use. I stopped using makeup wipes like a few years ago.
A
So you're a double cleanser girl.
C
Double cleanser. And I think that really helped my tech, the texture of my skin. Cuz makeup wipes are really like, I have sensitive skin. So they. It just like, it's not good for my skin.
B
So.
C
Yeah, I double cleanse. I wash my face every night. I wear SPF every day.
B
That's true. That's a big thing. I feel like.
C
Yeah.
A
Aj, what do you do when you're sick of Alyssa? Maybe that's the worst way of wording it, but that's the only way I can think of it.
C
If it ever happens. Happen.
A
If it ever happens.
B
I think we both do a lot of self care things. Like we have. I know this sounds kind of bougie, but we have membership for massages and stuff. And that just helps us like, you know, take care of ourselves. And so since we get to do that a lot, I think that when we're together or. Yeah, we. I don't get necessarily sick of you.
C
Yeah.
B
But when. Yeah, I mean, maybe sometimes we need space if we're angry at each other or something. But I don't have long periods of time where I'm like, yeah, I'm sick of Alyssa. I'm gonna go hang out with my boys.
C
Yeah.
A
You know what I mean?
C
Like that really do that.
B
That doesn't happen.
C
Yeah. If we get like irritated with each other, we'll just do our separate activities.
B
Yeah. But I have told you that I'm like, I need to go see my friends. You know what I mean? And I will just drive an hour to hang with because we live, like, an hour away from our hometown friends.
A
Okay, I'm being so fake right now, but I literally thought y' all were from, like, the Bay or, like, San Francisco. I legit thought so. But this weekend. Last time I was in la, a week ago, we had, like, a little friends giving, but with Chef K. I don't know if you guys know her.
C
I saw. I saw videos, so I invited all.
A
The Filipinos I knew. I didn't know much. It was literally just me. Bella.
C
Yeah, yeah.
A
Amnut was there, and a couple of my, like, other friends that weren't even Filipino. But I was just like, girl, come. I'm running out of people to act. But now that I know that you're just there. Yeah. Period.
C
Yeah. Anytime.
B
Anytime we're down, come and come through the house. We'll. We'll make a little gathering as well with our family.
A
No. Oh, my gosh.
B
But yeah, we. I think we communicate enough with each other to let us know. It's like, hey, I need to spend. I need community. And that doesn't mean without Alyssa. It's like, I need.
C
Oh, yeah. You know, or like, yeah, I'll have nights where I'll invite my girls to. To sleep over. And, like, he's not allowed to be there because, well, he doesn't like scary movies anyways. But we like.
B
She. They just watch.
C
We like garden, and we, like, watch scary movies, and it's amazing.
A
Yeah, well, love Garden. Garden and scary movies. Yes, love.
C
It's the best.
B
Sounds like a nightmare.
A
Wait, Alyssa, what is your favorite scary movie? I didn't know this lore about you.
C
Oh, my God, no.
B
Too much.
C
Scary movies are my number one favorite.
A
I love scary movies. I can do gory.
C
I don't do gory either.
A
Okay, good.
C
I do. I like more things that spook me or make me think.
A
Yeah, exactly. Okay.
C
No, those are my fan. Well, I really love the Conjuring series. I also like. Have you heard of Amityville Horror? Yeah, that was the first scary movie that got me into. Yeah, okay. Yeah, that was the first scary movie that really scared me.
A
I swear. That was, like, real. Same. Because it's filmed, like, a reality kind of thing. Like, kind of how Paranormal Activity.
C
It was.
A
Right?
C
It's not. It wasn't filmed, like, exactly, like, paranormal, but it was. It was filmed. They said it was based on a true story.
A
Yes. Even though I don't Watching that, you think like, it's real.
C
Like, yeah, yeah, in the house. Yeah, that really scared me.
A
What is. Okay, I'm thinking about where they went under Paris for the bones. There's a. Oh, that's 675. It's like.
C
Yeah. What is that? What is that one?
A
I used to live for that. I used to live for Saw.
C
Oh, I used to love Saw.
A
Love Saw.
C
I don't like the gore, but I like the story.
A
But the Saw gore is so fake. Like, even as a child, I'm like, girl, it's not.
C
Yeah. And I liked that there was always a. A moral to the story. Like why he brought them all together and then you don't know why till the end.
A
The ones that I don't like are like Final Destination.
C
Oh, I like that one too.
A
It's a lip.
C
It's too much, I know, but I like that how they're all connected.
B
Oh, yeah.
C
I like the storytelling of it.
A
I guess another scary movie I like is as a child, do you know one missed call.
C
Yes. That one scared me. Even though nowadays it's literally not that scary.
A
No, no. Like looking back, that used to give me nightmares, girl.
C
Whenever the phone would ring. We don't get phone ringing in the house anymore.
A
Like Chucky. Like love Chucky. Do you have any, any. If there is any scary movie that you like.
B
I'm scared thinking about everything you guys are talking about.
A
Really?
B
I watched Cabin in the woods and that scarred me and it ended up being a comedy at the end. Oh, but that scared the out of me. Yeah.
A
I don't know. Do you like suspense? I feel like you would like Hush. You know, Hush. You know, Hush. I don't think I watched that one, you guys. Okay, Hush is this movie about this girl who is. Is. She's deaf and she lives alone in the woods. And so she basically has to use her other senses and she's being like, murdered, like killers in her house and she has to use her other senses because she can't hear them. And it's so good. Like, it's what? It's so well written.
C
What year Was this out?
A
2019. It's on Netflix. It's called Hush.
C
Okay, I'm gonna watch it.
A
And it's not scary, but it's just very suspenseful.
C
Okay.
A
So if you like.
C
AJ doesn't like that either.
A
Okay, you're fine. Never mind. You would love next Liter Garden and Chill. We're going to watch Hush cuz it's so good.
B
The last one I watched in the movies. Was. Is it Stranger in My House? What?
C
What?
B
Or something?
C
Get out.
B
Don't call. Call me. Don't call.
A
Don't call me. Angel.
B
No, There's a call in the house with me. No, no, no.
C
Okay, so I don't know. No. You watched get out with.
B
I did watch Get Out. Get Out. That was satire, you know? But that still scared me when she's going, no, no, no, no, no, no.
A
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
B
Oh, my God. Still. I'm still scared.
C
Scared Sinners was not scary, though.
B
Yeah, it wasn't scary to me.
A
Do you guys have any shows you're watching right now besides the Bachelor?
C
Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Reality girl.
A
You love reality tv.
C
It's my guilty pleasure.
A
So did you watch Love island this year?
C
I did.
A
Oh, I watched your. Yeah. You weren't. You weren't a fan at first.
C
I wasn't at first. I got into it after I. I really just wanted.
A
You binged it, Right?
C
I feel like I remember it in real time. I had to, like, catch up and then. Yeah. But I watched it till the end. I liked it.
A
I liked it. I love. I love drama. I love reality. I wish I had more time to watch it. I know. Are you watching High Potential?
B
No.
A
No.
C
What's that?
A
Oh, you guys would love High Potential. I already know you guys would love High Potential. It's about this girl. She. I wouldn't say she's, like, autistic, but, like, in the show, she has, like, this ability where she literally notices every little thing she has to solve every problem that she sees. And she becomes, like, a detective. She was a cleaning lady, and she's cleaning at the detective house, and I guess, like, she accidentally bumped into a murder case. Like, and she's cleaning it up. She's, like, seeing all these things, like. Like evidence, like, pictures of, like, scenes of the crime, and she literally solved it by just cleaning. Like, she's putting everything back together, and she. So she. She goes on the board and she crosses out their suspect, and she put. She's not the suspect. She's the victim girl. Just. The first episode is so good.
C
Okay, I'm gonna watch it. It's gonna say too much. Wait, did you watch All Her Fault Peacock?
B
No.
A
Do I need a.
B
Yes.
C
Okay, that one you need to watch.
A
All of Her Fault.
C
No, just all her Fault. It's the girl from Succession, which I didn't watch, so I don't remember her name. And then. Dakota Fanning.
A
Love Dakota.
C
Yes.
A
There's a lot I already know. It's Good.
C
No, it's.
A
I already know it's good.
C
It's one of those where you're like every episode they kind of like have a new suspect and you don't know who it is.
A
I love like that. Okay, period.
C
No, you're gonna love then if you love that.
A
Okay, we just traded Chaz.
B
Love that.
A
All her fault.
C
Yes.
A
Okay, period.
C
Yeah, it was like kind of going viral on. On TikTok recently. So. Yeah, you'll. You will like it, period.
A
Well, we have reached the show where I. Well, we tell them our favorite products of the week. Do you guys have any favorite products? Products of this week?
B
Here we go. You can do yours.
A
Maybe people can also get like some gift ideas.
C
I'll do mine. Mine is very simple, a very good stocking stuffer. It's the ELF Glow Reviver melting lip balm.
A
Oh, I'm wearing it right now.
C
Let me reapply. I actually chose this because it's from my sister Lauren. She currently works at elf.
A
Oh, period.
C
She's an intern, but she's looking for a full time job, so. So she's a. She's applying some places.
A
But I love. Wait, that does look so good.
B
Wow.
C
It's peach ring flavor and it tastes like a peach ring.
A
Love, yeah. Love, yeah. What is your product of the day?
B
All right, my product is the H6 from Zoom and I brought it in case we.
A
That's so straight like how we go from. Let's go aj.
B
Go gear.
A
We are also gonna do a part two video on their podcast which is titled Sweet or Savory. Right. So we brought to find out if I'm sweet or Savory.
B
Let's go.
A
See you guys there. We'll leave in the description down below.
B
I brought this and I actually bought this just in case we would do the pod in some kind of mobile place. Say we were outside on the grass or something.
A
Well, last time you guys shot it at your balcony in your home and.
B
I plugged in to our computer. But this one, you don't need a computer. I mean, you have a similar thing that you're plugged into right now, but you have four inputs that you could put mics in or like a guitar or something. And you have these two mics on the top as well. And it runs on batteries. So yeah.
C
Wow. It's mobile.
B
Zoom H6.
A
We'll leave the link down below. Would you mind passing me my bass?
B
There you go.
C
So cute.
A
My product of the week is actually from my assistant Kat. It's this foot logic Thing. Hey, it's. Yeah. Do I need it? No. It's really good, girl. I never used to care for my foot that much, but I do have a dry ass fucking foot and I. I callous. Really easy. But anyways, Kat was telling me about how she found a. A PD pedicurus in her. No. PDF.
B
Pedicurus, just like a nail person.
C

This festive episode of "DaBaddest Radio" sees host Bretman Rock welcoming musical power couple AJ and Alyssa Rafael to Hawai’i during their Christmas tour. The trio dives into island memories, Filipino holiday traditions, their connections to music and theater, marriage dynamics, skincare, food, and favorite pop culture moments. Throughout, Bretman’s signature humor and warm energy make room for genuine conversation, nostalgia, and some holiday spirit.
“It was, like, one of the first places that played my music on the radio back in, like, 2010.” (01:52 - AJ)
“I performed. I was giving Sing dance manager and also, like, the cmo, because I would be the one, like, putting the money, like, you get 7 pesos, 12, 20 for me.” (07:14 - Bretman)
“Besides Korean fried chicken, I love like a classic chili chicken plate. It comes with two fried chicken, chili and then just rice.” (12:49 - Bretman)
“It always feels like a second home whenever we’re here.” (16:47 - Alyssa)

“Wash your face every day...double cleanse...wear SPF every day.” (58:22)
The conversation is lighthearted, teasing, and intimate—full of playful banter, honest confessions, and nostalgia. Bretman’s comedic asides (“I chose pretty!”) and storytelling prompt laughter, while AJ and Alyssa’s warmth balances the episode. The trio’s Filipino pride, love of music, and gratitude for Hawai’i’s community echo throughout.
This episode delivers island holiday energy, music nostalgia, honest relationship advice, and holiday sparkle—just in time for Christmas.
