Pastor Nestor Flores Sunday, August 3, 2025 “On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” 4 “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” 11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.” John 2:1-11 (NIV) 3 INVITATIONS OF JESUS TO US 1. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:10-17 “Neither give place to the devil.” Ephesians 4:27 “And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet.” Romans 16:20 UNDERSTANDING ITS SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE 1. The Word Is a Sword “Humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” Deuteronomy 8:3 “Do not put the Lord your God to the test as you did at Massah.” Deuteronomy 6:16 “Fear the Lord your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name.” Deuteronomy 6:13 2. The Word Is The Spirit’s Sword “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13 “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.” Zechariah 4:6 3. How Do We Take This Sword? “You come to me with sword and spear, but I come to you in the name of the Lord!” 1 Samuel 17:45 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart,” Hebrews 4:12 “And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. 5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee. 11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.” Luke 4:1-13 (KJV) “Your word I have treasured up in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against spiritual force of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Ephesians 6:10-17 Understanding it's Spiritual significance and protection. 1. The helmet identifies us with Christ "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." 1 Peter 2:9 (ESV) 2. The helmet protects against discouragement "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, of famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?... No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us." - Romans 8:35, 37 "Don't let your heart be ruled by what you see. let it be ruled by what Jesus promises you. I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the word you will have tribulation. But take heart; i have overcome the world." John 16:33 3. The helmet protects against doubt "Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has god indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?" And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden, but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die." Genesis 3:1-4 Jesus said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee! Hebrews 13:5 "I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:20 He is a "friend who sticks closer than a brother" Proverbs 18:24 "Even though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." Psalm 23:4 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most high will abide in the shadow of the almighty. I will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress, my god, in whom i trust." Psalm 91:1-6
“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one" Ephesians 6:16 The enemy is after your faith, because if he can pierce your faith; he can paralyze your life 1. Faith extinguishes The enemies arrows "This is the victory that has overcome the world - even our faith." 1 John 5:4 "Now that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1 2.Faith must be lifted, not just possessed "Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." James 2:17 “For He Himself is our peace...” Ephesians 2:14 (NIV) 3.Faith is stronger together "If two of you agree on earth about anything... it will be done by my father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." - Matthew 18:19-20 "Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials." James 1:2 "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you." - Isaiah 43:2
