Foreign. Welcome to Dear Alice, a lifestyle approach to interior design.
B
Hello, my friends. Welcome to Dear Alice.
A
Thanks.
C
How are you guys doing?
B
You're welcome.
A
I do feel welcome.
B
Good, good, good. Today is a really fun, very visual podcast.
C
Yes.
B
We are going to be talking about Spring volume one, which is our brand new collection.
C
Yes.
B
This is about. Some pieces are about three years in the making.
A
Three year gestational period for this.
C
Yeah.
B
If you can imagine for a moment being pregnant with something for three years. We're so excited it's finally here. So we wanted to tell you all of our closest friends that are tuning into us, we want to tell you this story and the history behind these pieces because it's, I think, worth telling. And we know that obviously you're tuning in because you love design and you love beautiful things just like we do. So we wanted to be able to share our story about how we got these things here and share them with you and, and what makes them special.
C
Why we love them, that type of thing.
B
How we did it.
C
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
A
Okay. I'm so excited, especially as a designer, to know how to, like, use them like they're beautiful. But I don't want to know. When you're designing something, there's a reason why you did it in this application, and that's what I'm so stoked to hear all the details about.
B
So I have to say, in regard to what SUS is saying, when we go to High Point Market, we go to all of our vendors and we're like, tell us why you made it. Give us the story. Because we have to tell the story to our clients about what this cool thing is because we're always trying to find those little interesting pieces and they'll be like, oh, so this is based off of a blah, blah, blah. And it solved this problem and we did it in this finish because of xyz. And then you have a appreciation for this thing, and then the client is so much more excited to live with it because they understand it. And so it's kind of like you guys are going to market and we're telling you why this thing was created so that you know and a lot of you are interior designers and so you can spec these things for your projects because they're here and they're ready to. They're ready to ship out.
A
So it's like talking to the artist. We're talking to the artist today, so.
B
Yeah.
A
Exciting.
B
Cake's good.
A
Okay.
C
Before we get into that, though, sometimes I'll be like, you know, I'll Hear a new song or a band come, a newer band comes out and I'm listening to a song, I'm like, damn, I wish I wrote that one. You know what I mean? And. But you're given the ideas you're given, you know? So I want to know, do you guys have anything that you wish you had like thought of or created or. Yeah, we wish we had invented. Yeah. Like just throughout history. Yeah. Like I listen to like Nirvana stuff. I'm like, that would have been. How come I wasn't given that? I. I don't know. Yeah, I was five at the time, so that's probably why.
A
But hey, I have a really good one for this. That like still I'm just like, every time I go online I see it. I'm just like in school into like again, this is. I started school for design in 2001-2005. And we would get. My professors would say, okay, you're going to go get a binder, you're going to make tabs, you're going to print them all and then you're going to collect images from your magazines and you're going to file them for fireplaces, for furniture, for all these things. And it was just so fun. So I just. Bibles and like all these binders just sitting up, you know of just all these ideas that I'd tear and I'd three punch hole and I'd put it in my binder. Pinterest, everybody. Pinterest. Why didn't I come up with that Every single time I go there, I'm just like, damn it.
C
Like, if Pinterest is listening, sue would like a royalty please.
A
Thank you anyway. Or a collaborator because there are improvements that can be made.
C
But you would have had a different life path if you would have like, you know, I wouldn't be here today.
A
Buddied up with genius. It's so genius. And I'm on it every day and oh gosh. And when you get stuck on an algorithm that's good. You're just like, I can't stop scrolling.
C
Seriously.
A
Like this is feeding me life right now. So I'm just like, no one talk to me. It's really good. Don't refresh my screen. I need to pins it real fast. Anyway, Pinterest, why didn't I come up with that? But thank you to those that did cuz it really is such a game.
B
Game changer.
A
But wouldn't that be cool if I came up with Pinterest?
B
Ye.
C
We wouldn't be sitting here now.
A
We sure wouldn't. That is why.
B
Oh, that's so good.
A
Cheers to them.
B
Cheers to them is right.
A
But let's do a little cheers to you and all the pieces that we're going to talk about today. Spring collection, volume one.
B
Yes.
C
And it's volume one because we've never launched this much stuff at one time, and we felt it made more sense to split it into two, Right?
B
Yeah, totally. And since. Since you're good friends, we can tell you, like, we don't get to control when these things come off the line. It's like we have an idea. We sketch out the idea. We throw the idea into AutoCAD. We really look at this 360 engineer for plopping it next to other furniture pieces that we use a lot, our favorites. Make sure this end table is going to scale with all the things we need it to and really double check, triple check, get a prototype made, fly it here, try it out, everything on the floor, or fly it there.
C
Yeah.
B
Anyway, we really like double, triple, quadruple check our work on this. Really look at the finishes, everything else. But what am I trying to tell them? I can't even remember now.
C
Yeah. Why we split it into two.
B
Yeah. So for some amazing comet heading toward the universe type of control that we have. And when these things come off the line, we don't know when they're going to be done. For example, there's an Ava nightstand in dresser that's been in the works for three years.
C
Yeah.
A
That's cool.
B
We have wanted this thing for so long, and we just needed it to pass a lot of different tests for us. One of which is we needed it to be able to hold our biggest crystal lamp called Francis. And Francis is heavy. Like, I don't even dare unbox Francis because I'm like, adam, this is a job for you. It's such a heavy crystal body, and it's tall and it's gorgeous. But if you do put a really heavy lamp in the middle of a nightstand over time, you don't want that to start to swag inside the drawer. Right. So we engineered this with steel and everything else to be able to get this thing to not only look extraordinary, but to be able to hold up to the test of time. So anyway, with the twist of fate, we have so many beautiful things over 50 that have all come into our warehouse and are all ready for launch at the exact same within eight weeks of each other. So it's so much to celebrate that we were like, we can't do it all in One launch, we've gotta break it into two. So we have spring volume one, which we're gonna talk about today. And then there's spring volume two, which we haven't even shot, so that's coming down the line. But so excited. We wanted to just take, I don't know, Corey, like a few standouts for us. We obviously aren't going to make you listen to a podcast where we talk about all 34 of the new items from spring volume one. So we said let's just talk about our top five favorites and the stories behind them. So with that, let's start with Ava nightstand and dresser that we were just talking about.
C
Yeah. Like Jess said, that's been in the works for, like, pretty much three years. And.
A
What inspired her, she is a.
B
White nightstand that is traditional or transitional. She's got a really tight, clean. And those of you watching, we're gonna put a picture up on the screen right now of this. We just lifestyled this collection and it's so pretty. And it also. We're holding this podcast until launch. So it has launched. You can go to the website and search Ava. It's Ava nightstand and dresser. And we are a beautiful. We actually went back and forth on this for a while. A beautiful white, tight box. And then the drawer style, it has two drawers. The nightstand with brass eggnobs. So you've got four brass eggnobs total on two drawers.
A
We love an eggnob.
B
Love.
A
Why do we love an eggnob, Jess?
B
I just feel like everything is a square, and so it takes the edge off. It's soft. An oval is just the most beautiful, sophisticated of shapes. It also feels really good in the hand. So we're brass on our eggnobs.
C
Yeah. I think, like in between two fingers. That shape just feels. I don't know. It feels great.
B
Yeah. Also, like, side note, one of my favorite designers, north stars for me is Barbara Berry, and she uses an oval always in her work. And it is so, so beautiful. I even love just holding an egg in my hand. It's just so ergonomic. It feels good. It feels good on the eye to look at the oval. And so we did these brass eggnobs that are positioned sideways on both drawers. And in the last minute switch, which probably happened a year ago, we said, you know what? I actually prefer to see a wood grain coming through the white paint than just a perfectly sheen painted box because it needed something. It did. It gives it more richness to have a little bit of texture. We've learned from one of our Favorite designers. Whenever you're going to go white, go high texture white, because otherwise it can get flat and start to look like Ikea even. So we wanted to make sure were not too optic white on the drawer. So a really beautiful bone color. And you know how beautiful bone or ivory is with brass. That combination's stunning. And then I used my favorite drawer style from all of our projects, where you've got that really beautiful pencil mold on the outside of the box, which just gives a tiny bit of dimension. Plus you see a little of that wood grain. It's not sanded through wood grain. You can just see it under the paint and you're just like, this is. It's ash wood, right, Corey?
C
Um, it's actually white oak. Video white oak, which is like, they were like that. That's very expensive. I was like, I feel like we have to do it, guys. So, yeah, they made it happen.
B
It's beautiful. And then it's got a beautiful tapered leg, so it hovers really, really tall off the ground, which gives, I think any piece elegance. So it is just so pretty. Huge drawers on the nightstand. So if you are in a smaller space between the two nightstands, you've basically got like a dresser. You could really keep like your underwear or hose or your slip, your pajamas. Like, they're huge, deep drawers. And then we came out with a matching six drawer dresser, matching eggnogs. It's so pretty. I think it's going to be like a best bestseller. I don't know. I'm excited to see how it performs. Yeah. What did you think of it since.
A
I loved it.
B
Yeah, I loved it.
A
I've been actually holding out on like getting my nightstands. I was waiting for my bathroom to be done. I'm like, I want a white or like. And I love, I love that you guys did do the wood grain because there is a lot of just perceived value. Also the wearability when you do grain just like for life and like things happening, pulling, you know, your craft or your glasses or anything. It just is like, it's an easier finish to like live with.
B
Yep.
A
And it's just so beautiful and like, you'll have contrast elsewhere. So I really, I love a light nightstand. And so I'm so excited about it. And I live in a small space, so storage is a hot commodity. And I can never have just like a leg. As much as I like, love, like having like a dining table or something, I'm like, I need storage. So I think the storage is brilliant. I love it. And I Love again, I think the pencil. I like that you just did that, like, little pencil liner, too. Just because there are so many squares between, like, your windows and just, like everything happening in a room that especially for a nightstand, there's just like a rest to it where you're not trying to battle the hard. Like the hardware.
B
Yeah.
A
Because you sacrifice your hardware when you have too big of a style and rail on a door. So I love that you did that. That was brilliant. Because then the hardware is something to celebrate, which is the jewelry.
B
Yep.
A
So.
B
And that little pencil mold adds that little soft, like, sort of pillow around the edge of that drawer, and it relates back to the eggnog and just visually gives it softness, even though it's this hard edged, rectangular nightstand.
C
Yeah.
B
I think the elegant tapered leg also takes the edge off.
A
So, yeah, now it allows, like, if you have a small space, that also allows it to feel larger because you can feel, like, the edge of the walls when you do have something hovering.
B
Exactly.
A
I love a pencil that meets up with another pencil. That rhythm together is like money. I love it in a K. I love it in furniture. It's like, it's just enough of a detail without being too much.
B
And speaking of detail, one of our other favorite things to do in kitchen design or bathroom cabinet design is we love an inset cabinet. This is an inset cabinet. It's not an overmount drawer. Like, I just wanted to call it out because it's like, you don't get credit for it if you don't tell people. This is an inset drawer. So it really, truly is our very favorite door style when it comes to cabinetry. And now we're doing it in furniture. So I think Ava. I just had to say her first. I just. She's. We have her set up in the showroom right now because we just shot it, and people are like. And they're dming and they're like, what is this? And is it available? And we're like, it just hit the warehouse. It's here.
C
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
C
That's cool. People are excited about it. That one, like, took us. We were. It was to the point we were like, we didn't know if we were going to make it work. And then, like, yeah, Adam, like, when Adam and I went to overseas last, we kind of.
A
Yeah, you made it happen.
C
Yeah. Made it happen.
A
Literally.
C
We probably spent three hours just getting the finish. Like, every brass finish isn't the same, you know, just getting the finish on the knob, like, to the point where the guy Doing it with me is just like, come on. I was like, ah. And he's like, 5% more. And I could tell he's getting annoyed, but they're perfect. Yeah.
B
It was worth it. Yeah.
A
For the designers. Like. Like, raise your hand wherever you're at if you feel the same way. We don't do, like, a match a matching nightstand to our dresser when we're designing a space. So I love that in the case that I have darker nightstands, say that the client had some, like, inherited ones or. Or whatever. And those are, like, a beautiful dark wood grain. I. I usually will contrast and I'll do, like, a lighter dresser or. So I'm like, I'm glad that I can use it in any regard, regardless of, like, what my initial equation is.
B
Yeah.
A
So if you have dark nightstands, you're going to use the Ava dresser. If you have light night sands area. Yeah. You get. You get the picture.
B
Yeah.
A
Here, here. Okay.
B
So excited.
A
So excited.
B
Really pretty. Or if you're a set person by the set. Yeah. Yeah.
A
If you're minimal and Scandinavian, this will be gorgeous.
B
And these aren't like your little girls room nightstands. They can be. They can be guest bedroom, but these were. The scale of them is great for a primary suite. So, like, sue said, you would love it for your primary suite.
A
Talk about the scale of them, like, ideal when you're designing the perfect scale for a nightstand in an ideal situation. What is that?
B
Yeah, I mean, we went big. I think we're 36 inches wide.
C
Yeah.
B
We're nice and tall. So we can get that lamp right where you need it when you're leading, when you're reading in bed. And you can also reach that drawer really comfortably. So we've got the height just right. We've got the width right, and we get a lot of depth so that that nightstand is usable. Because I don't know about you guys, but my nightstand works harder than my kitchen table.
A
100%. Yeah.
C
That's my catch. All for everything at the end.
B
You know, I don't know, sometimes as moms, I feel like we're standing at the counter eating, and maybe your people are at bar stools. And so I really like my nightstand works. It's the hardest working surface in my house, so. Which is another reason why we're like, let's do these in wood grain and then paint them so they'll hold up to all the work that they need to do.
C
Exactly.
B
Okay. That's Ava.
A
I'll say for the nightstand, though.
B
Yeah.
A
People, you shouldn't be probably going smaller than 30. 36.
B
Yeah.
A
Don't go smaller. So I like. This is an ideal dimension when we're.
B
Talking scale, especially primary bedrooms. Yeah, we. We did make. Our best selling nightstand is Brooklyn. We did make Brooklyn in a smaller size because there are people that live in city apartments or their kids have a smaller room or whatever. They just don't. Something adjacent has a dresser, needs to open, and you just needed a smaller thing. And that's been selling really well. And maybe Ava will be one of those that we'll want to do more of an apartment width for. But for now, we're just launching with the big one because we know that scale is really important to make your room look fabulous. And so this is what all of our math over all the years has taught us. And I think she's the perfect dimension.
C
I agree.
B
Yeah. Frank's sideboard. Let's talk about Frank and Francis.
A
Also the names. Like, could we just, like, get an applause for the names and all these? That's so cute.
B
So we named it after Frank Sinatra, who's, I believe his real name was Francis. And so we were trying to name it after Frank because this is like a very mid century piece. We kind of took kind of a masculine, feminine approach where Francis could be the more feminine version of the same exact piece. We a b tested this amongst all the designers at Alice Lane, and we said, which do you like better? Frank is just an all dark, beautiful. What's the wood grain that we used on Frank? Mahogany.
C
It's walnut.
A
I think it looks walnut.
B
Yeah, but it's a darker.
C
Darker than you would imagine walnut.
B
It's so dark that the grain gets kind of absorbed into the depth of it. So it's not all about the grain, where generally with walnut, you're celebrating the grain. And then we did this really beautiful bronze sort of pinch pull that's really fun to hold in your hand. Frank has two sets of cabinet doors flanking the outside and a bank of drawers in the middle. So Frank can really multitask and go anywhere. Great. In a dining room because those drawers could be filled with silverware and dessert dishes and whatnot, and inside could be turkey platters and whatever. Or this could really go in a primary bedroom or a guest bedroom where you could stack knits, and then those drawers could be used for socks and underwear and all the things. And put a big TV over it in the bedroom. I don't know. Living room offices. It's gonna look great anywhere. But in the AB testing we did Drawers in ivory that were painted, left everything else walnut or a solid walnut piece. We were 50, 50 split. Designers loving both. One loved one more than the other. The other loved the other. And so we were like, let's just do both. Let's come out with both. Let's call them Frank and Francis. Let the people decide. So if one doesn't sell as well, we'll probably move on from it and then just sell the best seller. So it's kind of fun. And the launch that you get both. Maybe we'll carry both forever. We'll see what happens. But, yeah, candidly. What's your favorite?
A
I love the Francis.
C
Yeah, me too.
B
Me too.
A
Yeah, I like the. I like the different. Like, I like the dark and the light. And I don't know, you get to understand, I think, the. The architecture of the piece a little bit more when you get, I don't know, that contrast. I just think it's so pretty. And I think. I think it can go honestly in any project because it is. Has a little bit more versatility with the two finishes.
B
I think it pops more, too, and you get more credit for it. Yeah, we set it up in the lifestyle scene. We'll show on the screen right now in a dining room. And the dining table is white. We did the Luca table with it. And then the white doors on Francis with the two tone dark box is so crisp and handsome.
C
It really is.
B
It truly feels mid century.
C
Yeah, I was going to say it makes it feel more mid century. It's like less just traditional, I guess.
B
Like, have you seen, like, those wingtip shoes where they'll be like two tone or like white wall tires or just like, all of these vintage sort of references. I think it gives that to a space. I could also see a record player sitting on top of this in an office. Yeah, it's really cool. It's got this great sort of tapered pencil leg. It's got a really, really beautiful stretcher on the base. So it kind of is elevated off this box, which, again, is a space expanding thing because your eye can see all the way underneath it, which makes the room feeling big. So if you do have a small space, it's really cool for those two.
A
I think it's a great dimension. When I first saw it, I was like, oh, that's a fantastic, like, media situation, like for a family room or something. Because we. People just want these big TVs, right? You know, like, if you wanted to, like, do something, but it's, like, low and, like, has a cool song to it. And I don't know, like, in a whole, like, moody setting. I just think it's really, really great. The dimension on it, the width on it. It's, like, perfect for, honestly, any of those spaces.
B
Cool. In a media room.
C
My. Like, the doors on Frances are. That's my favorite, like, detail by far. Second is the bank of drawers in between. The two sets of doors are inset, and then the frame, like, around them is like a bowl. And it was like, pencil mold. So just that detail, to me, is just. Yeah, that so good. It took finesse to like, make that happen. And so when I look at it, I'm like, that's awesome. I'm so glad we did that and just didn't phone it in, you know? So. Really cool.
A
What is the width on Frank and Francis? Do you remember? It's like, it's a big girl.
C
Yeah. Big boy.
B
86.
C
Yeah, I was gonna say 84 or 86.
A
That's really great.
C
Yeah.
A
Oh, great scale. Okay. Okay.
B
Fifi stool.
C
This is one of my favorite things that we have developed, period.
B
Oh, really?
C
Yeah.
B
I love knowing that.
C
Yeah.
B
No, we wanted something like it, and really happy we were able to do it.
C
Me too.
B
This was a piece that sue and I, when we first opened Alice Lane, we would work the retail floor. We were just talking about how we loved working the floor because it was like, a design label, and it really taught us how to combine interesting things together because we were just constantly rearranging things and trying different things that we didn't have in our home, of course. And anyway, there was this one vendor that I don't even think is in business, and they came out with this really great little stool with animal hoofs and a Mongolian sheep hide, and then quickly discontinued it because each of the feet were attached separately, and it was too wiggly, and they didn't want people to get hurt. And so it's just. I've had a crush on it forever. And I said, let's figure out a way to make this so it's strong, this concept of animal hoofs on a little ottoman with a Mongolian sheepskin.
C
Should I bring it up?
B
Let's bring it up. Yeah. If you're watching, you'll see it. If not, we're gonna describe it for you. But we've got.
A
So cute.
B
Corey, what wood did we use on the feet?
C
It's Mindy wood, which is indigenous to.
B
So we make our case goods. This piece included in Indonesia. And they're really, really good at wood and finishing and these legs are all hand carved and we've got like a little. A little animal hoof. I don't know if it's like a sheep leg or.
C
It's probably reminiscent of. Yeah, sheepleg.
B
Yeah. And then the Mongolian sheep hide really long hair. And it's like having a little character in your room, a little mascot. I think a pair of these in front of a fireplace or a pair nested under your center hall table, or one half sticking out under your desk so you can put your ankles up on it. Even in a powder bath underneath your pedestal sink to sort of hide the P trap and everything else going on there.
A
Your purse down on it.
B
Yeah. I don't know. Where are you going to put one since it's your favorite piece?
C
Entry. Yeah. We just have needed a spot, you know what I mean, to kind of just put under our entry console just so people can sit down, take off a shoe or something like that. So good. Yeah, it's the. It's Mongolian sheep. And it's. It's real, it's not. Not faux. So that was the one thing with it. When we were talking about it, it was like a little daunting because we've never done something like it before. And I was like, how, like, when you're doing stuff like this, you know, you kind of have to just marry things together. Like, how am I gonna find, you know, this Mongolian sheep? And then like, you know how. Yeah. It's just a whole logistics game. And so it was like, when we were able to do it, I was like, I can't believe, like, we made it happen. You know, we made the dream come true. So that's why it's one of my favorites. But also it's, I think, stylistically one of the raddest pieces we've done. And we re like, we engineered this to. We did a weight test. So I'm sorry, I'm trying to convert, but Prob. It's over £200, so, yeah, very strong. Stood on it before. Yeah. So really proud of it.
A
I think every house, regardless of your style, could take a fifi. I think it's the cutest thing, and I think the price point on it's awesome. And it just feels like something from first dibs or cherish or just a treasure hunt somewhere. I love the idea of, like, two of them are cute, but even just like, just one of them, I just think it's such a one of a kind like, moment. And it's nice too, to have things like this in each room. Because it's a graduation of height, say from a console, like down. Just so your eye. When you look into a room that feels right, it's usually because those tears. And this is a great little pocket. Something that just adds like. It does a lot for a room when you have moments like this. So high five to Fifi.
C
Yes. Yeah.
B
So good.
C
Jess, Valentine's Day is coming up and I have no idea what to get for Mari.
B
Oh, I know what you could get her. Have you tried cozy Earth's bamboo sheet set?
C
I have not.
B
Okay. She's gonna die. The sheets are so silky and foxy. They have this little bit of a sheen to it and they just redefine what it means to relax together. So even though you're giving her a gift, you're really getting a gift for yourself at the same time.
C
That's amazing.
B
It is amazing. You're gonna love it. They're the smoothest, softest bedding. And here's what I like about it. Adam sleeps super, super hot. I'm always cold, but because of the sheets. These amazing bamboo sheets, they are like four times cooler than cotton. They're the only, only sheet he'll sleep in, so it keeps him cool. I can put an extra layer on and we can both sleep together. It's like a mini vacation right in your own bed. You're gonna love them.
C
We need that. We've been needing new sheets for a long time, and the best decision I've made for my sleep has been the cozier sleep mask that I got just over a year ago.
A
Oh, yeah.
C
Can't sleep without it. Now I take it with me when I travel. I don't even want to open up my eyes in the morning because it's just. Just makes me feel so relaxed and has changed the way I sleep. So I'm stoked to get the.
B
I love that thing.
C
Yeah. So to get the sheets.
B
It's so silky and yummy. I'm so happy that you have that. Well, here's another idea too. I love the cozy Earth's bamboo pajama set. They're silky yet breathable. And she's never gonna wanna take em off. So if that's another idea too, you could get her sheets for both of you.
C
Okay.
B
You could get her the pair of sheets and she can wear em to lounge or just wind down. I honestly run in the door, take off my work clothes, put these on.
C
That's going to be a game changer for her.
B
She's going to love it. Okay, good. Yeah. So if you guys want help turning your Valentine's Day into something really special? I strongly suggest surprising your valentine or anyone you love with Cozy Earth. And you can get 40% off right now at Cozy Earth if you go to cozyearth.com Dear Alice. And you can use our code, Dear Alice. That's cozy earth cozyearth.com Dear Alice. And don't forget, if you're asked in a post purchase survey, let them know you heard about Cozy Earth right here. So that's Fifi. And then the next one that we are excited about is the Shirley table. We did a little vintage drinks table. We just think sue and I love a vintage store and some of these little characters. We're going to put this up on the table. Those of you watching, it's going to be tall, but we're excited for free to see it. So this, this is an all brass body. We've got three boomerang legs that suspend this center post. And then there's a glass top. And then the handle screws on over the top of the glass top so that it sort of protrudes out. And it's just so fun because you just pick up the handle from the top and you carry it to wherever you're serving your drinks. And so you could have several of these in a room if it's one that you're going to be entertaining in. It has all those vintage style points that people are gonna be like, where did you such a party trick? Where did you get this right? It's gonna be so good for. We do a lot of bars in the Alid projects that we're doing and sometimes the bar is within a home office and I could just see them pulling this out from somewhere, setting it in front of their guests, asking what they want and being able to carry it wherever. And because it's a glass top like you can Windex and wipe off whatever. You know, if you don't have coasters or even if you do, it's just such a cool piece.
A
No, it's an easy, quick little tuck away the nice thing. And like I said about Fifi and a piece like this is like so many rooms can swallow something like this because it's again, it's those small things. When we're styling a tabletop, it's usually a small thing that's missing to like the overall composition. Same thing with your furniture. When you have all these pieces that are necessary, your rug, your sofa, your end tables, your lamps, you're like, equation, we're done. We should. We like, we did it, we nailed it. But when you start to add in these found pieces, like, that's when it's just like, are we in Architectural Digest? Like, we should be published. It's pieces like this that, like, take your room to the next level. Even if you're like, I don't need another end table, I guarantee you, like, there's a spot to just, like, tuck.
B
Shirley, this is a little bit of a tangent, but just go with me for one minute. I've. I've seen like this on Instagram where there's like a stylist in New York that will say, here's an outfit now, here's the same exact outfit, but styled. The difference is how you tuck in the shirt, how you roll up the slee sleeve, what bracelets you're putting on the arm, what. What scarf you're tying around the neck, what earrings you're doing. Right. There's a difference between getting dressed and styling an outfit. Right. The same elements are there in the primary outfit. The difference is just the styling of it. That's what we're talking about in pieces like Fifi and Shirley is the styling piece. And there's a big difference. In fact, soon I just got hired to work for a client who use some big award winning design firm out of, you know, la or something to do this massive, like $50 million build of this extraordinary home. And the home is done and it's stunning. And she called us and she's like, the firm I'm using doesn't style. Like, can you guys come in and put all of the finishing layers in? Because you guys are so good at that top layer and just really making the house have character and style and uniqueness. And. And that is where pieces like this are born, is because we know we've got to get these little intricacies, these little pieces that layer over the top of an arm or that make the space more functional and tell the stories. And don't forget to style your homes. It makes them feel like you. It makes them interesting. It makes it the outfit.
A
Cut up your sleeve, pull it up, throw the earrings on. That is what this does.
C
Yep. I mean, I like the uniqueness of it too. That's why it's. I mean, I've never seen something like it. And to me, it's like the base of it, which is solid brass, by the way, real brass. It's not fake. I mean, like, feels very like, mid century. And then like, kind of the handle feels more traditional. So it's just like, just the whole thing, top to bottom, is just, like, put together very well. Yeah.
B
There's not a house this wouldn't work in that we're. That we're working on right now.
A
Any style, like, it's just that Mad Men quality that you pop in there and it gives you, like, instant swag. Yeah, that's the stuff. I'm like, I feel like I'm in Palm Springs. I love it. Mike, who am I?
B
So good.
C
That's awesome. Shirley's the best.
B
Shirley is the best. Chin chin. Yes. Chin chin is right. I've got a little tiny one for you. This is the crystal column frame. I know.
A
Nice audible gasp. It's so good.
B
We added a crystal picture frame to the collection. This was actually inspired. Sue and I were on, like, a vintage inspiration buying trip where we just wanted to really, like, get our antenna out and just really be looking for stuff far and wide that would be interesting. And so we were wandering through a beautiful high end vintage shop, and I came across a frame that was similar to this. And I was like, gasp. This is so stunning. And the back was brass, and it had this big chain and this beautiful little brass bamboo stick that all attached. And it was like $2,400 for a crystal frame. And I was like, oh, I should just buy it in the name of product development to just figure out. Right. It was so stunning. And then I thought, no, just like, Jess, just take a picture of it, sketch it out, do your own version of it, which is what we ended up doing. And this is how it turned out. And I have to say, solid crystal. We're calling it the crystal column frame. This is just so stunning. It does have that columnar detail that we see a lot in art history. And even when I was in Italy, we saw these stacked columns that sort of fit into each other like this. This one has the most vibrato out of all of the crystal frames. Definitely right now we're only offering it in five by seven. There might be a need for larger in the future, but I just had to say, this is so stunning. We actually jumped this one in line to hurry and launch it just before spring collection because I wanted people to be able to get it for Valentine's Day. If you have a sweetheart that you want to put a favorite memory. I know my husband and I finally got to go to Italy this last year, and I'm getting it for him his birthday in May. And I'm going to frame one of our favorite memories from being in Italy together and have it just Live on his nightstand or on his desk, wherever he wants to put it. And maybe even print it out in black and white so it feels like a memory. But st. You actually bought the crystal frame, haven't you? Yeah.
A
No, I did, too. The second you guys both already own it, I grabbed it for Tom, and I wrapped it up. Because that's the fun thing about when you get a present for your significant other. It's kind of for both of you when it's for the home.
B
That's true.
A
I bought it for us, honey. But I got this. And then I printed off a bunch of pictures just to see which one I would like, of our boys and different memories. And there's this one of them that just, like, feels so editorial. Like, of them just in front of our house. Like, they're styled and, like, cool. They're cute.
B
Cute.
A
But like, them in this frame, I'm just like, oh, I just love it. I just love it. And there's something so just crystal plug real fast for all of them. Even provo. Grandma said this to me the other day. She's like. Of all of her frames on her mantle, she. She said. She's just like, I just love the crystal one because it's so beautiful. The sun catches it, but the memory, like, I see the memory more than the crystal, but it's just. It's such a beautiful balance. And that's what this does, because you get some serious style points when people start to, like, look closely and they're like, that's dope. Like, that's a really, really fantastic frame. Where did you get, like, where did you rescue this from? But they see the memory, and it doesn't overpower it. And so especially when you're talking about humans and pictures and memories, that's why the crystal frame is so interesting.
B
I think so, too. Your eyeball goes straight to the humans, because humans love to look at humans. And then eventually that your eye kind of wanders around and starts to take in the frame and the whole composition. But you do get credit for the memory first. And that's why I love doing the picture frames in crystal. And. And this is my new favorite. It's so stunning.
C
Also the refraction, which is when light hits it, how it displaces it, like, through the room. That's insane.
A
It's so beautiful.
C
Like, it's so amazing.
A
I want to see with all of our crystal frames. I just want to. Again, big plug, because that's like, another. A pet peeve is when people have a frame with A weird kickstand that's, like, falling apart because it's felt. You know, the one that's peeling back, they have it on, like, an end table. So I see the kickstand, and it's not cute. We solved that. That you guys solved this. And I just think you did such a fantastic job with just this perfect little crystal kick right here. So you could float that on table on a console. And it's not going to be offensive. So high five. So beautiful. I'm so happy that you developed this because it's my favorite.
B
Yeah. It's so good. That's the crystal column frame. Yeah. Really quick. Those were our top five. A few little tiny things we want to mention we won't spend as much time on is. You guys know the Odette, the clear Lucite step stool we designed for closets? There was a demand for these in kids bathrooms so that they could stand up and brush their own teeth. Right. So that they could see in the mirror to comb their hair or wash their own hands. And Sue's would bring the Lucite one into her bathroom. You have little kids, and we said, why don't we just make a more casual version? It's more affordable. You could spill water on it and not see the droplets. Let's make a wood Odette for the kids. Let's do it for the kids, for.
A
The mamas and papas.
B
Or just keep one in the pantry. Right.
A
It's easy to move around if you know you are in a closet. It's pretty because you can, like, plant it to the, you know, the bank that you're usually at. But it is heavy.
C
Yeah.
A
Which is awesome. But the wood is just. It's amazing.
B
Yeah.
A
I'm so, so excited about it because you guys know the options that are out there, and they are dismal. There's not very many, like, green barrels on a fine job. Or they're tippy, not designers tippy. Or it's cheap or. Yeah, yeah. And, like, my kids are rough. Like, that thing needs to sit solid. And the Odette does. But now it's in wood, and it's so, so pretty. So, yeah, it still has the brass rails, which I was really glad.
B
Did we grab it?
A
Yeah, it's right here.
B
Let's put it up here.
A
Bring it up here.
B
Corey need bigger tables. We kind of wanted to play around this. And as you know, Corey can, like, build a kitchen, and so we had him just build a prototype in the shop to see what we would think. And you've had your Kids playing on it for probably over a year. And we finally have it available. It is less than half the price of the Lucite one. You guys can get this home, put it in your bathroom, put it in your kitchen, put it in your pantry, wherever you need it for your kids to interact with or even you, maybe.
A
I'd say the husband's closet.
B
Oh, yeah.
A
Like, so true.
B
We got that beautiful golden sled base. And then this is in white oak. Yeah.
C
We also, one of our goals last year was to start branding things. So we have like our little Alice Lane, like lion medallion in it as well.
A
Jay Bennett.
C
Yeah. Which I.
B
And give them a three quarter turn so they can see the steps. If you're watching.
A
Asmr, if you're listening.
B
Yeah. And we were able to just groove in some lines to just sort of help with a little bit of track.
C
Yeah. A little traction. Like, I have a three year old, you know, I built the prototypes for it. She. We have one downstairs and she'll like push it through our dining room over to the kitchen sink into the pantry.
B
Like a walker.
C
Exactly.
B
Yeah.
C
I had to put some like felt pads on it. She'll just like cruise around. She's like. She calls it her ladder.
B
Oh, cute.
C
It's so cute. So, yeah, like, very functional. I was so when we were like, we have to do it because we use it literally all of the time. So. And it's like, gives her the freedom. She's like, can I have some water? I was like, slide that bad boy over to the fridge and get your own. You know what I mean? Like, and she does it. So. Yeah.
B
So cute.
A
I also love, like where you pick it up. I love that they're circular. I think that was a really comfortable. It's really easy.
B
And you love a circle. It's pretty with that arch top. Yeah. So this guys is wood Odette. Yeah.
A
Another people for the moms, the dads, the babies.
B
Yes. It's for. It's for all. Yeah, Odette, for all. Another little honorable mention in the collection is, you know, Beatrice the Brass etagere. It's been such a hit. It's a bestseller. We were like, why do we not make a tall version of it? In case you do need more storage in that primary bath, you've got towels, you've got containers of Q tips. And you know, there's just, there's so many things.
A
Elongated, short ceiling. Anything.
B
Yes. Yeah. I mean, we have clones on ours. We've got so many things that are happening. So anyway, I'm So excited. We've got tall, all brass body on this girl. Tall Beatrice is now here and part of the collection. So you're familiar with that. We'll put it up on the screen so you can see it. Lots of uses. I think if you have one of those walk in closets that has the blank back wall, but you've got, you know, hanging on both sides. This could live on that blank back wall and you could really stack all your knits on it. You could put, you know, some of your prized shoes or pur.
A
Display shoes on that girl. Yeah, Like a jewelry tray. Like, totally. Like, so beautiful.
B
And I'm a hat girl and so I. Yeah. On the top. On, on the top. I'm just going to stack all my hats on top. Yeah. Bags on the next row. Perfumes, knits.
C
Such a great idea.
B
Yeah. And then you're going to have your own little tiny baby department store in your closet.
A
It really does.
B
Yeah.
A
A little boutique department store.
B
I love that. Right? Yeah. So Beatrice is here in tall.
A
I'll say. Beatrice is one of my very, very favorite things that we've ever developed. I loved her short. I love her tall. Like, I love that it's brass. I love the elongated, like the height that you like lifted her off the ground. That like walk, like, does something to me all like.
B
That foot's so good.
A
It's so, so good. So, yeah. Welcome. What's cool, guys, in the development of this, because again, these are like long pregnant periods is that you guys brought in one because the brass is more expensive and it's a beautiful, like long lasting, you know, honest finish. We were trying to bring the price down and you guys brought it in and something that might pull the price down in. And yeah, it was, it was for a second.
C
Yeah. And it was a hand dyed.
A
Yeah.
C
Brass finish, which is never as good. We, well, we have like product development meetings and I feel like it was a good few months where Jess and I were like, nah, we should keep it the same DNA as Beatrice and just have it all brass. But the brass. Yeah, it was really hard to get that price point. And so it almost didn't happen until we started. I think like, Susie, you were like, I saw like tall Beatrice, like the sample that we had and like, it looks awesome. And we actually put it out on.
B
The showroom floor and just used it like store display and folded things and stacked pillows on it and everything else. And the more that I looked at the steel finish with this hand rubbed fake brass finish, I was like, I need This. I need this piece, and it has to be real brass. And once we started really working with it, we were like, every primary bath or closet or just outside the closet. Right. So that you can stack up your things on that last look before you're going out. Or there's just so many usages for this. Maybe it's in the bedroom. I actually have a neighbor that already purchased it because she's part of the to the trade program. She's a designer. And she was like, oh, yeah, I worked with your trade person, and she said they'd hit your warehouse. I was like, they haven't even launched yet. And she's like, well, I needed a really small footprint shelf for my kitchen to put all my cookbooks on. And I was like, oh, that's gonna be so beautiful. And with our Calcutta viola bookends full of, you know, all of her cookbooks, she's. She's so fun, and she's got this kind of Latin background, and she's an amazing cook. And I'm like, I'll bet her cookbooks are so pretty and colorful. And anyway, I need to go over and see how she styled it. But in a kitchen, like, you don't want to take a lot of room because, you know, some kitchens don't have.
A
A lot of space, but it's just like, instant style points. We just designed a larger kitchen, but they requested the honey bar. Kind of like Gigi Hadid's mom. I think it's her mom.
B
Yeah. Yolanda Hadid, if you guys caught her home in Aspen, Colorado.
A
Yeah.
B
She had a honey bar that was like the full height of her room.
A
You need a honey bar or at least a honey shelf, for goodness sake.
B
On Beatrice, I think if you're a beekeeper, you definitely should have a honey bar. That's so fun.
C
So that's another one that almost didn't happen. But I'm glad we did it right, and I'm glad we did. It had to be what it is.
B
So glad. So glad. It's beautiful. Another one that is already in the line, but we came out with a different colorway is the Phoenix mirror. We did a clear antique mirror. They were a rust antique mirror before. We still have them. They're amazing. We love them. But we were like, why did we not also come out with just antiqued mirror for these shapes?
C
Kind of how funny. Like, we started with the rest. Yeah. Because seeing the clear, I'm like, man, this makes sense. Yeah.
B
But yeah, totally. What's so fun about Phoenix is it has A big square cleat system on the back, which makes you. So you can hang it any direction. And we just hung the two. So they come in two sizes, large and small. They look really cool hung together. But you can also just buy one at a time. And we did the two small ones over nightstands in different directions for the photo shoot. We'll put an image up here so you can see it. It is so good. Everybody needs this over your nightstands. It's a space expanding trick. The antique mirror gives you fashion points and a little history in patina. The organic line just feels.
A
Breaks up the square of, like, your head. Yeah.
B
10 out of 10.
A
We like clouds in the cut.
B
A little behind the scenes video on Instagram, and people were like, whoa, stop the traffic. Is that. Did you come out with Phoenix? Was that available? Where can we swipe up to buy? And we're like, just wait a minute. So these are finally available above M.
A
Jackson's mantle in her dressing room.
B
We did. And we went so beautiful. We went horizontal because she had a shorter ceiling and a lot of crown mold holding. And it. The big one wide. Oh, so good.
A
I will say I'm just like. It turned, like, what was like a lovely traditional dressing room into a fashion house. Like, that thing, like, turned it on its head and it just like, it added the smoke that that space needed. So I'm really proud of that.
B
I am too.
A
So good.
B
Yeah. And then the big one just above our mantle, we'll show an image here. We did a photo shoot of it the tall way. And so good. These are gonna be a hit.
A
And so I like that they're not too thick because obviously it's just the mirror that you can, like, layer the hell up of this thing.
B
Yeah.
A
You can put stuff in front of it on your mantels. Like, obviously nightstands, you can have additional art. And it's just like. It's smoke and mirrors in the background, and it's. It's radical.
C
I love that it. The doesn't. It doesn't have a frame. So it's kind of just like. It just feels more like the shape feels more organic to me. And it kind of just like. So she is.
A
Yeah.
C
Chic. It's very chic.
B
I would also hang this.
A
That's what drugs feels like. I bet.
B
I'll bet. I'll bet. Doing drugs feels like the clear Phoenix mirror treatment. Yeah.
A
It's not growing.
B
Do you know what I would use this for? We haven't done this yet because obviously they just got here. But in a powder bath over the vanity. Because in a powder bath, you don't need to get ready in it. So it's fine if it's antique. You just want to look good. You want low lights in a powder bath, you want this sort of mysterious mirror and some beautiful dark wallpaper or pattern happening. And you could just have a full experience doing drugs. Yeah, you can do that, but not.
A
Doing drugs that I know. With like, the Alice sconces.
B
Like, isn't that such a vibe?
A
Yeah, it's so good, guys.
B
So good. Last one. We had to do this one because sue was like, can we please carry this to the table and show the people? Go ahead, Sue. What are you looking at?
A
But I kept staring at it. I'm just like, I think I need this in my house on my kitchen countertop. Because my counters aren't, like, anything to blow quote right now. But this thing, I think would, like, upgrade my life. Yeah, it's like the perfect.
B
While you're waiting to redo that kitchen.
A
Yeah.
B
This will give you.
A
You guys. It is an A. Jess and I learned. And we're going to. Okay, listeners, we're looking at a solid. Like, this is probably. Are we. Are we 18 inches high?
B
Let me grab my. Grab your tape really quick. We already have the Athena lamp in alabaster. We are just doing the Athena lamp in a new marble. And this is the Calcutta viola. I'm gonna grab my tape measure. Keep talking.
A
Okay, so it's like the perfect height for again, underneath, like on a. On a countertop, like, just like baby lamp in a kitchen. It's perfect. And the coolest thing about Athena, both in the alabaster, which, when I saw the alabaster, like, it rocked my world. And then you guys introduced this, and I'm just like. You can hardly breathe. The whole column is marble. The shade is marble. It is slab. You can feel the thickness of the top. That whole slab, it is just so beautiful. And when it turns on, like, the glow on it is so pretty. It's. It, like, gives off light, but it's diffused enough.
B
16 and change.
A
16 Change. So it can just kind of hover underneath your counter, like your upper cabinets.
B
Because your upper cabinets are hung at 18 inches off the countertop. So this is designed to just. Just slide under there, keep it on all night, like a nightlight. You can have your breadboards piled behind it, and you just are suddenly having this high end restaurant experience.
A
I'm gonna go under late at night and have. Have cake.
C
Yeah. The glow from It.
B
Yeah. And you might not be able to afford to just go get new countertops, but this is gonna buy you time, and it's gonna give you that effect of the Class 5 marble that you really want in a lamp. You're gonna plug that puppy in, and you're gonna feel so good about life.
A
Tom's tacos hovering below. My gosh.
B
I've had this sitting in the middle of my kitchen table since August. I brought the prototype home for my birthday dinner, and I plugged it in right in the middle of my round table, and we served dinner around it. I got yellow roses because yellow and purple are opposite on the color wheel. It was so pretty. And everybody was like, what is that? Where can I get when I'm like, it's the prototype. It just got here today. And the reaction from all the women at the table were like, I'm buying that when it gets here. And we're like, we are moving forward with it. It's fantastic.
C
Stuff like that always helps us sell it, too. To find finance side of Alice Lane. It's like, everyone thought it was awesome. Like, we're doing it.
B
Told you.
A
I will say this. I was going to say when we were talking about Beatrice and all of these items, like, we learned a long time ago. Do you remember, like, at the beginning of the store, we had some, like, pillows from Oli, and they were like. They came in, and I think it was like this stamped silk, velvet, and a Croc, and they were like, seven or 800. We're like, who's gonna buy this? But then, like, the first person bought it, and it was. It was an A. And we decided an A is an A A. This is an A. And A will sell because an A is what people will have in their collection forever. And that's worth the price. That's worth the price tag.
B
Just.
A
It's worth the investment because it's something that's not disposable, that you will love forever and ever.
C
Yeah.
A
So A's. An A. This is an A. All these pieces are A's.
C
Thank you. One thing I love that we've been doing, probably, it's been. I feel like we've been putting a lot of the. The style points in smaller things. So it's like, you know, it's not. It's that people are going to buy, are not. Are taking. Not taking as much of a risk maybe. You know, it's like getting Calcutta viola countertops, you know? So I love that we've been, like, biggest bang for your Buck. And all of the accessories that we've been doing, I'm really proud of. I mean, yeah. That the crystal frame, this lamp, it's awesome. The Shirley table, it's just all the style you need and, you know, in an accessory so you don't have to, like, be afraid to go.
B
Really functional accessories. Yeah. I've left my nightlight. Not my nightlight, my Athena marble lamp on my table. I leave it on all night long. And if you do have to get up in the night, there's just this beautiful, warm, glowing marble happening. And you're like, it's not scary. The kitchen is just warm and friendly and gorgeous. Everything looks so pretty next to it. It's elevated. Everything I put it on. I love everything in that whole scene because this lamp is new, it's interesting, it's organic. That backlit marble is so special. I can't wait for you guys to live with these. Anyway, that's just a highlight.
A
This is like, just back to that.
B
Yeah.
A
Feels like it's just. It's listed in a. It's been. I don't know, it's lived in a different generation.
B
Yeah.
A
You now get to, like, live with it. There's a real history to it. I don't know where she was born, but I love her so much. Keep going.
B
So good. Well, this is. I mean, you can see how excited we are. This is five things plus four little honorable mentions. This is nine things and there's 34 that launched. We won't keep going, but.
