Welcome to Dear Alice, a lifestyle approach to interior design.
Susan
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Dear Alice. Today we are talking about spring.
Corey
Yes.
Susan
Yes.
Corey
Finally, spring.
Susan
Finally. Those of you that live in beautiful climates, we do, too. Our climate's special. But some of you have experienced warm weather for much longer than those of us that live in Utah have experienced warm weather. And we're just so happy it's finally here. Finally. Yes.
Alice
I was, like, outside yesterday, and I was like, it is. It's 6:00 and it's not dark. Like, the sun is shining. The birds are chirping. They've returned home. I'm so happy.
Corey
Isn't it awesome when, like, 55 degrees feels like beach weather?
Alice
Oh, I know. No one's like, can I ride my bike to. I was just like, shoot, 40.
Susan
Yeah.
Alice
Like, go, go, go.
Susan
Yeah. Don't even wear a jacket. You're going to get hot.
Corey
You're fine.
Alice
Ready?
Susan
Yeah.
Corey
I love.
Alice
So happy.
Susan
Definitely.
Alice
Oh.
Corey
Oh, sorry.
Alice
I was going to say every year I'm just like. I know. I don't think I have seasonal depression, but, like, when it becomes spring, I'm like, optimal. Like, my optimal self. Like.
Susan
Yeah. It's like somebody put helium in your balloon and you're like, I'm high on life. Yeah.
Corey
I think it's been. Yeah. Like, I've never been huge into, like, oh, spring, you know, but it's been since I've had a yard that I'm like, I'm tired of just seeing. Seeing all these, like, branches, like, you know, having little, like, buds come out. I'm so excited for.
Alice
House is never uglier than in winter.
Corey
I know.
Alice
I'm just like, why do I have you?
Corey
Yeah. It's like, bear.
Alice
The tree comes back and I'm like, okay, bless.
Corey
There she is.
Alice
I like you.
Corey
There's the money maker.
Susan
Yeah.
Alice
That's why I bought you.
Susan
Okay.
Corey
Yeah. What are you. What are you excited about this spring?
Susan
Well, I like what Susan's saying about longer days. So there's this little. I call it the Enchanted Forest that's behind my house, and it's just a lot of scrub oak and big trees, and there's a trail that's been blazed through there. There's a little river that runs after it rains, and there's little bridges you go over. And there's a lot of mountain bikers that like to come through there that have really blazed the trail. So it's really fun because the trailhead is just one house over from my house.
Corey
That's cool.
Susan
So we Just walk up the street and then we go down into the Enchanted Fore and we take that walk. And the smell in there is just. And when the water's running and it's like, private because you've got, you know, shaded too, probably. Yeah, everything's really mature. Trees. It was like the native part of the neighborhood before it was developed. They left all of that. So it's all really mature and grown in and it's just kind of dreamy. It's like, sue loves to be in nature and gets inspired by it. And I don't camp, but. But I do walk the Enchanted Forest every night in spring and summer. And I'm actually embarrassed to say, but I didn't, like, join a gym or do any workout at all this winter. And I kept thinking, oh, I'll just join Pilates again or I'm gonna do something. I'm gonna do something. And in these warmer days, we've gone through the Enchanted Forest and walked again. And I'm like, oh, I'm back. It just feels so good to, like, move your body and to do it in nature. And it just smells so good and you're, like, really grounded. You know how sometimes people joke around, they're like, touch grass.
Corey
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Susan
I literally am like, I'm alive again. When you can just be in it and just. Yeah. So I'm excited to, A, be exercising again. B, have it be light enough so that I can walk through the Enchanted Forest and not get murdered.
Alice
You know, we work and so that, like, when you get home from work, like, till the time you guys are like, ready to retire. Yeah, like, that's critical for, like, what are you gonna do to feed people?
Susan
You gotta. Yeah, exactly.
Alice
Bedtime, all the things. So, like, to be able to, like, refuel. Yeah, like that.
Susan
And still have it be daytime. To be able to get a walk.
Alice
In like a matinee. Yeah, it's like a freaking matinee.
Susan
And guys, I know what you're thinking. Just do it in the morning. I'm just never going to work out in the morning.
Corey
Yeah. And it's.
Susan
I'm just not crazy cold.
Corey
Yeah, like, totally.
Susan
Well, yeah, because generally 5:00 is the warmest time of the day, so it's also optimal in this early spring when it's like 40, 50, you know, 60. It's too cold in the morning. And also it's morning. So who can do.
Corey
You're trying to wake up?
Susan
Well, you work out in the morning, so.
Corey
I do. Yeah.
Susan
I'm not talking to the Right crowd.
Corey
I get it, though. I mean, it's not. I don't. I don't wake up. Like, I love. I. Yeah, I have to or my day sucks, you know, so.
Alice
Making breakfast or lunches, actually. Yeah. Someday. My season. My season's coming.
Corey
Yes.
Susan
Well, guys, welcome to Spring. And also welcome to Spring Volume 2, because today's episode is going to be telling you guys about these new pieces that we just added to the collection. And we just wanted to be able to share all these with our closest.
Alice
Friends when we did volume one. The kind of the incentive behind that was selfish for me because I'm like, I want to know from you guys, like, why things were developed. And as a designer and obviously we work together, we see the sore spots, like what we need continually in our projects. And so it's a constantly feedback and forth, like, this is what we're needing. This is what we could develop. Or we find cool stuff when we're shopping and things just, like, spark. And we're like, the world needs this. And so it's so exciting when we see it come off the line. Like, as a. Like, I'm just an observer over here. I'm just a big fan. I'm a raving fan. Anyway, so I'm just excited to just like, hear the story behind all the pieces and the reason why. And hopefully you guys find it interesting, too, because I Love Spring Volume 1. And we had so many pieces that came off that we had to split it in two. So let's do it one more time.
Susan
I think There was about 50 pieces in total that landed for spring, and we just knew that we ourselves couldn't capture that many. And also that we probably. People probably couldn't even absorb that many.
Corey
Yeah.
Susan
So we just split it into two to make it a little bit easier to batch it out that way. And actually, you know what's funny? The smalls, like, all the accessories ended up landing in volume two because they landed a little bit later in the collection. Otherwise we would have put equal amounts of accessories in both. But I think this. This is a really, really shoppable collection. I think everybody's going to be able to get their hands on. On this stuff.
Corey
Totally agree.
Susan
I have to say, one of the things that's exciting because we haven't really had this is we. We have six vases. So three pair of vases in this collection, which is just so timely for us to be foraging in our yards, which we all love to do, and bring those branches inside and put them in fresh water in Some cool vessel. And so we are bringing three pair of vases to this collection. Those of you watching, we have some of the littles on the table right now. We're going to describe them for you if you're not watching. But the good news is this just launched on March 24, so three days ago. So if you wanted to, you could also look up on the website and you can see these things as we talk about them.
Alice
So you can watch us on Spotify or YouTube or. On Spotify.
Susan
Yeah, it's special. Yes. So good. And heads up, if you guys aren't following along, we have an Instagram handle. The name of our business is actually Alice Lane. I'm sure it's confusing that our podcast is called Dear Alice. And so the. Our Instagram handle for the shop is Alice Lane Home. And if you want to just follow the interior design site, it's Alice Lane Interiors or follow both. We'd love you to come see what we're doing on both sides of the business. So give us a follow there. Okay, let's get into the new collection. So number one, this is a best seller in our collection. It's the Brooklyn Collection. This is a collection of nightstands and dress and a dresser. The nightstands come in two sizes because we only made the large originally because we love large scale. It always makes the room look complete. You don't have to buy a lot of other stuff on a nightstand. I want a big, generous surface. Right. So we came out later with a smaller size, and we bleached the walnut in the original version. And these things have actually hung out in our data as number one, number two, and number three, we sell more Brooklyns than anything in the business since they launched.
Corey
Like, so that was two and a half years ago. Something like that.
Susan
Yeah. Like, Brooklyn Nightstand is usually number one. The dresser is usually number two, and the small nightstand is usually number three. And so Brooklyn is just like, she's our rock star. She's our front man. She's our Justin Timberlake or whatever you want to call her. I don't know a better rock star reference, but I just went to the JT concert, so I'm going to say jt. Yeah.
Alice
What makes Brooklyn great in your eyes? Like, why would anybody want to use Brooklyn?
Susan
Yeah. So, well, let me just say. So for spring, we decided we need to make dark walnut because we've been bleaching the walnut, which means we're stripping the grain out and all of the color.
Corey
So it, like, neutralizes.
Susan
Yeah, it's not white Oak. This is bleached walnut, and it is so gorgeous. And we're like, don't touch it. It's perfect. And we've just been selling it for years, but then we knew that the market is starting to change. Right. We're all feeling it. Yeah. Sue, what are we feeling? What are you seeing?
Alice
Like, just more depth, more warmth. You're feeling more honey tones in your wood. You're going back to that medium. Too dark. We haven't seen, like, a full, like, dark, dark wood on floors, but we are seeing it in case goods and just kind of feeling that I think people just want to be, like, wrapped in something. And so we're doing it with color. We're doing it with wood grain. I saw. We all heard color drenching. I sent you an article yesterday or from, like, Homes and Gardens uk.
Susan
Yeah.
Alice
That they're calling it, like, wood drenching.
Susan
Yeah.
Alice
You know, just as far as, like, the paneling around. People are just like, they're not painting.
Susan
Everything white wood ceilings, wood floors. Like, they are wood drenching. Yeah.
Alice
And they're just. You're just feeling just, like, so cozy and so warm, and I'm totally here for it. So I think, like, seeing Brooklyn, and I love that we are already, like, we had the integrity of the walnut anyway.
Susan
Yeah.
Alice
And so we're just like. And we still offer both of them.
Susan
Yeah.
Alice
But we are warming it up, and we are getting deeper in the marketplace, so this is very timely.
Susan
So. Yeah. So we took our number one probably last summer, last fall, and we said, let's just look at it. We know we all love it. We don't want to ruin anything here, but let's just see if we did a second offering of Brooklyn in the Dark, in case there's people out there that want to just go for it and they want that darker. And here's what happened when you don't bleach. The walnut is all the grain stays, and all the cathedrals are in it. And so now you're getting multiple shades of dark brown, depending on how that's hitting the grain. And you guys, it's so, so gorgeous.
Corey
Yeah.
Susan
I can't believe we didn't think to do it sooner.
Corey
It was so. It was when we went to overseas last year.
Susan
Yeah.
Corey
And I walked in the factory, and you can see all the way to the back, and I saw all these, like, boxes, and they were just like. They weren't finished yet, but it was, like, bare wood, and I could tell it was walnut. I was like, man, Those are amazing. Like, what are. Then I go back, and they're like, oh, these are all your Brooklyns. I was like, we should think about doing, you know, not bleaching them. I. I love the bleach. Like, don't get me wrong. Love it.
Susan
Yeah.
Alice
It's a look for a certain type of house.
Corey
Yeah. But so that's when we started messing around with that, and we got, like, probably, what, six. Six different finish samples in, and we were like. Which is like, they were very slightly.
Susan
Lots of different stain changes on walnut just to be able to choose the exact shade.
Corey
Yep.
Susan
And we were all really unanimous on which one. And then we saw the first sample come, like, probably end of the year in 2024, would you say? Yeah, maybe it was, like Thanksgiving or something. Time. Anyway, all the quantities are here, and we've shot this in the showroom. We've seen it in a full bedroom, and it is such a winner, you guys. I'm so excited for you to get to see it. And you'll be like, wait, is that. Is that. Because you're already so familiar with Brooklyn, but to see it in a darker colorway with all the grain. It has this whole different, newer, really rich, saturated look, which is stunning. I can't wait to see what happens.
Corey
The hardware, too. Like, we kind of. We put a. A stain on it just to kind of, like, warm it up a little bit, because it's still brass, like the original Brooklyn. It just. When it was on that, like, dark wood, it was kind of, like, jarring the eyeball. Yeah, a little bit.
Susan
So it just kind of melts into the darker walnut now.
Corey
Yeah, it's just. It's awesome. I'm stoked for how it turned out.
Alice
And I will say just that trend of just like, you used to be the. Especially on, like, on a wood or something. We'd be like, polished. Nickel looks so pretty on that. I'm really loving the melting of just, like, the gold on the depth on the things of just, like, you kind of feel like a form of it, but in a different metallic. And so I'm like. I love that you guys, like, took that tone and you, like, melted it with it. Like, that's really, really cool. Not as contrasting, but just that drench of that tone and that warmth.
Susan
Yeah.
Alice
Good stuff.
Susan
Yeah. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the market. I mean, I'm living in a home with white oak floors. I'll bet you have white oak floors because of when you built your house.
Corey
Yeah, but they're like they're a little bit of a whitewash stain. So they are still and like medium.
Susan
Yeah, yeah. Cuz I think what we're going to start to see in homes is I think if I were building right now, I would just do a walnut floor. It's the most universal. It's always, always gorgeous and it's still.
Corey
It'S not crazy dark to where you're going to see every little thing.
Susan
Yes.
Corey
But still rich and warm and.
Susan
Yep, definitely so fun.
Alice
When Aline first open, remember, I mean it was like, it was a. I don't know if it was laminar anyway, it was a floor that we could scoop like furniture on top of, but it was along the a medium tone. So in 2008 we lightened it up and now we're like pulling back, which is really exciting. I don't know, it's just fun to see the pendulum swing.
Susan
I'm excited just to see the data come in and see the reaction to which Brooklyn people are going to buy since it is our number one.
Corey
Yeah, I hadn't thought of that.
Susan
Yeah, that'd be cool. Brooklyn bleached has almost four month head start right. For 2025. So it'll be interesting to see how the data catches up or if the bleached will still remain in first position. Market always takes a while before they're ready to adopt something new. So maybe people are still gonna prefer bleached for a while, but you're gonna have an option now, so that's great. Yeah. The next one, also a case. Good. The milly dresser just launched.
Corey
Also a spin off something we've done before.
Alice
Yes.
Susan
So Millie is the small version of Miles. Miles was the very first nightstand we developed. And then we made it in hazelnut and then we also made it in cloud, which is white. And then just barely at the end of 20, we made it in white oak. Miles.
Corey
Yeah.
Susan
And then Miles kind of like Brooklyn was big because we love scaled objects, scaled case goods. So we made a smaller version of Miles and called her Millie. And then I don't know, I love.
Alice
On the names too.
Susan
Oh, thank you.
Alice
They're really cute.
Corey
Yeah. Anyway, I'm going to say this though. The reason we keep coming out with like smaller, you know, versions of these is because people, you know, are asking us for it. And so if they're like, I love when people do that. Just like, oh, do you have, do you have this or you know, are you coming out with. I think that's awesome and it's flattering. Because that shows that people are like paying attention and I'm like, oh, that's, that's great. You know, so yeah, I mean, I would say email in and yeah. Or DM us or whatever, however you do it. And I love hearing those things.
Susan
So.
Corey
But sorry.
Susan
I also like how cute to like smaller spaces, city living apartments that they can have kids rooms.
Alice
Amazing.
Susan
Yeah.
Alice
I need a big chest. You really don't have room for them.
Susan
So embarrassing that we didn't think of it right out of the gate. But because of your request responses, then we hear what the market needs and then we respond to that. So how we've lasted this long, legitimately, five years since Miles was born with no matching dresser. Millie hasn't had a matching dresser. I'm embarrassed we didn't think of it sooner. Millie's dresser just launched three days ago.
Alice
So cute.
Susan
And we finally have one that matches all of the finishes it comes in. So it comes in white oak. It comes in a white, which is called Cloud, and then a hazelnut, which is a dark brown. So wherever you are on the spectrum of, of your wood journey, because we all know that it's going to be one. Or maybe you just want a great painted white version for a guest bedroom. Kids bedroom. I actually have Miles, the bigger version in Cloud in my primary bedroom and love the amount of service. I love the little cubby underneath. I have two huge drawers. I have a heated blanket in one. Like this thing is a workhorse. It's fantastic. So anyway, I'm just so excited to have the dresser here. So if it looks like you've seen it before, it's just because you're familiar with the nightstand, but there's never been a dresser.
Corey
Yep.
Alice
I love the amount of drawers that you do get.
Susan
And thank you for saying that.
Alice
Top like skinny row. Like we do that with cabinetry. Anyway, when we're doing built ins for an office for, you know, any built ins, libraries, whatever. And so I'm so glad that we have like just more drawers.
Susan
Speaking of more drawers, Millie dresser has the most drawers we've ever done on anything.
Alice
And they're all inset too.
Susan
All inset.
Alice
Amazing.
Susan
Yeah.
Corey
And undermount glides and they're all soft clothes, which is to me that's paying attention to every detail because you could.
Susan
Just, you know, it's a ton of moving parts. It's a ton of hardware. It's. It's a lot of work. And yeah, we really had to work on this one to get the price in. I think a really Good price point for what you're getting.
Corey
Absolutely.
Susan
In Miles or Millie Dresser. Yeah.
Alice
So anyone that's done custom cabinetry, like, for their home or anything knows that, like, the more drawers you have, the more expensive it becomes. Doors are a lot easier to do on a box than it is to have, like, all the components for each individual drawer.
Susan
Totally.
Alice
When you see this, like, set of drawers, you think of, like, a handsome gentleman's chest. Or, you know, you're just like, gosh, they really invested in it. And that's what. When I saw that, I was just like, get down, millie. She has 12 drawers.
Corey
I'm so glad. I'm so glad you said that, because when I was, like, showing Mari some stuff, and I was like, yeah, this has 12 drawers. She's like, oh, cool. I'm like, babe. No, this has 12 drawers.
Susan
One dozen.
Alice
It's amazing.
Corey
She's like, oh, okay. Cool. 12. Yeah. It really is, like.
Alice
It's a feat.
Corey
It is. Yeah. Yeah. So thank you.
Alice
Yeah, you're welcome.
Susan
Yeah. So good. Okay. We're going to switch gears and do a little thing now. An accessory. Sue and I actually had a discovery together when we were at High Point. And this is what we're calling the guardian angel lamp. And we discovered this little. I don't even know what century it was from, but we found this little tiny angel set of candlesticks, and they're real gold. And we called it the grumpy angel because he had his arms crossed and he's got these little tendrils. If you're watching, Susie's gonna hold it up right now. This is a baby lamp, if you will. I thought a pair of these would be so cute on top of a mantle.
Alice
So cute.
Susan
So cute. He's got little wings. He's wearing a dress, and he's standing on a marble base. And this is what marble is it again, Corey? It's like a dark brown with white veins in it.
Corey
Yeah, it was like. It's called, like. I can't remember the exact name, but it was something like, beautiful. Yeah.
Susan
Is it that?
Alice
Something like that.
Susan
So it's a. It's a all brass lamp. All brass body. The little angel. Real brass. Yeah. And then we've got a really beautiful linen shade. And we. We worked for a long time with the factory trying to figure out the right way to electrify this. And because we didn't want to drill through the angel's body and have a tail come out his dress.
Corey
That have been strange. Yeah.
Susan
Yeah. We decided to do a French socket. And we ran the wire off the top above the angel's head. And then we said, well, since it's going to be coming off, we can't see a plastic wire, so let's do a really beautiful nylon twisted cord, which.
Corey
We had never done before. So we, like, had to go out in the world and find it.
Susan
And yeah, it's kind of a pretty champagne color. And then the angel gets to be fully intact. And then it has a really cute little toggle switch.
Alice
And I love the guardian angel because didn't you do the research? And, like, when the angel is holding their arms, that's technically. That's a guardian angel.
Susan
Yeah. Yep. That was a sign. There's lots of different postures for angels. And the one with his arms folded across his chest is the guardian, the protective guard. Yeah, we were gonna name it the Guardian. I thought about naming it Gabriel since he's like the archangel. But at the end of the day, I just feel like we all kind of have that. That person in our life that's probably passed that. We always feel like they're winking down at us. Or we look at our watch and it's 11. 11 or. Yeah, there's always some little twinkle that we feel in our life and we're like, somebody's got me, right? Somebody's got my back. And that's our guardian angel. So I think. I do think it's kind of a sweet nod to that. But also, I love the figure. I just. I love it so much. I love it on a mantle. We shot it on a French chest, which is the next one we're going to talk about. And it looked really great amongst a collection of big blue and white jars. This little tiny figure that's turned on looks great with large scale objects. I also think this could be underneath a backsplash in your kitchen. If you want your angel looking at you there, wherever you're going to be. This could be on your makeup vanity, it could be in an entry.
Alice
I say you're on a kid's dresser or something.
Susan
A grand piano. Yeah.
Corey
I was just gonna say, seeing every time I've seen it styled, you know, in the shoot you guys did, I feel like for such a small piece, it does, like a ton of heavy lifting.
Susan
It's like surprising how much you key into it for being so small. I think it's because it's a human form and we know people love to look at people and so it does catch your eye. You get a lot of credit for it for how Petite. It is.
Corey
Absolutely. Yeah. That's 100% it. You just don't see, like. Like a lamp like that.
Susan
Yeah.
Corey
You know.
Susan
Yeah. It's like a.
Alice
One of a kind.
Susan
Yeah.
Alice
I mean.
Susan
Yep.
Alice
That's exactly what it feels like. I mean, we got it from an antique store. That's what it was based off of. And in our projects, we always want things that just feel like it's the only one that exists.
Susan
Yeah.
Alice
So this has given me that vibe.
Corey
That kind of feels like that's been, like, our. I don't even know if we've intended to do that, but that's just kind of been, like, our niche, like, just creating things that are. That feel like they're one of a kind, and it's like you really can't.
Alice
Did you get it on first dibs?
Corey
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. That's something I'm really proud of. And it's. Yeah. We've developed some cool things from it.
Susan
So I want to say this. It's kind of. It's not really a spoiler alert, I think, because we're talking to, like, our closest friends right here in our circle. Those of you that are tuning in for the podcast, our next curiosity. You guys know we have our curiosity collection with, like, a little horse and a brass egg. And what are all of them? The Harper Ham.
Corey
The Wishbone.
Susan
The Wishbone. The next curiosity. I don't know if you know this, Sue.
Alice
I'm like, no. I'm at the edge of my rolling chair.
Susan
Our next one is actually an angel wing. Oh, yeah. I love that. It's so beautiful. We just approved the prototype yesterday. It's all solid brass. You're gonna probably see this by the end of the year. Yeah, right. I think in time for holiday, for gifty.
Alice
Beautiful.
Corey
Yeah. That's our goal, which will be great.
Susan
And I think this, like, insight, like a book that's open, just kind of laying in the spine or on top of anything.
Alice
Such a beautiful gift. I think so too.
Susan
I also think, like, if you've lost somebody lately, like, it's always so awkward and you don't know quite how to behave or what to do or do. I send flowers. I think sending them an angel wing would be so lovely and thoughtful to just sort of memorialize there. I know.
Alice
Beautiful.
Susan
Well, I love it. I think there's some people that would also feel that it's spiritual or that it's a connection to, you know, the heavens, whatever they believe in there, or just that their person is still with them. As an angel, I Just, I don't know. I really love this imagery. It's not that I'm being romantic and it's Valentine's Day. This is just like, I think it's a really deep personal feeling about these and I'm excited for the angel wing myself to come.
Corey
Me too.
Susan
Anyway, that look for that late, late.
Corey
In 2025, that was an honorable mention we weren't even going to talk about.
Alice
So yeah, totally love that.
Susan

Alice
She's so cute.
Susan
Estelle is our French entry chest and we needed this because we love a chest in an entry. If you don't have room for a center hall table, having some big grand moment I think is always great. Lots of storage. It feels European. It feels found.
Alice
It's grounding. I think like it is grounding. It's white and it's French. It can get a long. With so many different styles and genres that you're probably gonna be introducing in different facets in the rest of the home. So yeah, I do love a chest. Functionally, it's awesome. And then just like style points. It's neutral enough and easy to decorate around and make some big moves on top.
Susan
Yeah, totally. It feels like something that would be in Some really great brownstone in an entryway with original art above it. This little angel lamp on it. Collections of things that are happening that are seasonal. It does feel airless. Yeah. Yeah. So Estelle chest is here.
Corey
Yeah.
Susan
Just in time for spring.
Corey
That's probably the piece that we have been working on the longest. What do you think? Because it's been years, I think. Yeah. We had like, a bunch of different, like, iterations of it. Changed the finish on it a couple times, changed some of, like, you know, the details far as, like, the dental.
Susan
Mold, the hardware, and the locking key. We wanted to have that top drawer lock, and so I think we did a great job. The key is really beautiful. It's like a skeleton type key that you can open and close it with, which will lead us to our next one. But did you want to say anything else about it?
Corey
I was going to say, yeah. It has a. It's. It's a painted finish on the wood, but it's a quarter sawn white oak top too, which I think it kind of like leans to that like, heirloom esque thing. So I remember when we did that and put that on it, and I saw it was like a. It was. That's what it was like, kind of missing. It needed some depth there, so.
Susan
Yeah, yeah, totally. And you'll see in the photo shoot images, which we'll be putting up on the screen with this. There's. There's. There's a rug underneath it which was part of a collection we launched at the end of last year. And it's this really great Persian Tabriz runner. We decided to come out with it in a rug for entries. So this is five by seven, four by six, and it's going to take traffic really well. It's a beautiful, beautiful Persian pattern. And we popped it under the Estelle chest, and they look so good together. I love this pairing. It's super neutral. It's kind of a small scale pattern, but it feels steeped in history. Even had parts of it ground down to make it look heirloom. And like, it's been around forever, that's all.
Corey
Yeah, it really is. That's.
Alice
Yeah.
Corey
Probably my favorite rug. It's. I mean, it's new, it's fresh.
Alice
I love it.
Corey
But yeah, it's awesome. You guys made it look amazing in the.
Alice
On the design because we're always just doing custom homes in these rooms. And some are like, more deeply saturated with like a color drench or just like really rich pieces or some are still lighter. And it's a craft room. And I'm like, I will tell you, this rug gets along with all of them. Whether it's like the entry chest that's about to foreshadow something that's going to happen, or it's like playing along with all these characters in a room. If you're looking for a neutral rug that will be long lasting, regardless of whether we're lightwood, dark wood. All the things that trends bring in and out. Like, this is like so classic.
Susan
Yeah. The rug is named Ines I N E S and it's the rug. We've had it in the runner, but now you can get it in bigger sizes. Yeah. So pretty. Next up is just. We did this beautiful ivory key tassel because we had Estelle coming and we're like, we have to have a big tassel to hang on it, but everybody's gonna want the tassel. We were like, do we just figure out how to marry it onto the chest? Even though the chest is already boxed and coming in from Indonesia, and this is not coming from Indonesia. Like, no, everybody's gonna want a tassel. Like, let's just make it part of the collection. Not just for those that buy a chest. So, Corey, do you wanna hold up the key tassel? This hang on your key? Or you can hang it on your nightstand drawer or on your dresser drawer, or we even love it on the toggle of a lamp. And the little bit of a tassel coming out from under the shade.
Corey
Rad idea.
Susan
Yes. Oh, you have it in your house right now? Yeah.
Alice
I'm going to post a picture because.
Susan
Yeah, you need to. It's really cute. You might have like a kitchen cupboard that you want to just hang one off of where all your glasses are or something. I know you're all going to want. You're going to want to get your hands on the key tassel.
Alice
You don't need a new lamp. You just need a tassel for your lamp.
Susan
Yeah, totally.
Alice
Like, yeah.
Susan
You're gonna have somewhere where you want to hook this thing and you're gonna feel regal. And you paid $24 and you got yourself a tassel and you're just feeling so chic.
Corey
They're handmade too.
Susan
Yeah.
Corey
So beautiful.
Alice
The craftsmanship of it is amazing.
Susan
Yeah, it's the perfect shape of ivory. It's got a little bit of a. Of a silky hand to it, but not straight up shiny. Yeah, it's really, really good. We worked on that for a while and we're proud of it. We love it.
Alice
My kids haven't even been tempted to tear it off. Like, I just get to.
Susan
It passed the kid test, guys.
Corey
Interesting enough, but not enough for the ad. There you go.
Susan
That's funny. I love it. Another thing that we're obsessed with is these marble shapes. Yeah, we. We have reminiscent feelings about this. From art class. 3D drawing class. Do you remember doing this with all these geometry stuff with graphite and that big sketch pad? And they make you learn how to draw a sphere, and then you learn how to draw the cone and then the polyhedron and the pyramid, and we were like, let's. Let's make these out of marble so that they feel classical. And let's. I just couldn't wait to style with these. Let's make them. Are. Are we selling them as a set or individually?
Corey
Well, I mean, you can. You can buy them individually or in a set.
Susan
Yeah, the set is so good. We have used these on the French chest for the photo shoot, which we'll put up here. But then after that, we were just playing around with them to style and on a mantle. Looks so good and so smart and studied, you know, and just kind of feels like a still life in real life.
Alice
Start to sketch. I don't know. I'm so fast. I like geometry and, like, to shadow and light planes, and, like, it makes me want to get up my art stuff.
Corey
They're all so good. Carved in Bianco Carrera, too. So. Yeah, like, beautiful.
Alice
They're solid. We lifted them in here. They're not. Yeah, yeah.
Susan
And I think, like, the cube, you could put like. Like a candle, a one wick candle on top of it. You can put a stack of books and some of the shapes on that, but you'll just sort of play stylist and work with these forms. And I think you're gonna love working these through your house throughout the years. Maybe through entry console. Maybe they migrate to the mantel. Maybe they're in the living room for a time. Maybe they're in your office. I have a chest in my office behind my desk, and I've had different prototypes piled on there, and they make me look smarter. For sure. Sure.
Corey
Like, I'm an artist.
Susan
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm sure of it. When I walk in, I'm like, oh, I just got so much more credibility.
Alice
It reminds me as far as, like, it's the evergreen quality of, like, the obelisk.
Susan
Yeah.
Alice
You know what I mean? I'm just like, they're just, like, forever in your collection. Like, they're solid. They're marble. Like, they're. I don't know. It's more. It's more heirloom stuff. Like, how cool. Would you love to, like, pass these along to your grandchildren? Like, here's. Here's grandpa's marble.
Corey
I think about that all the time. I'm like, as we. As we get things and I have them in my home, I'm just like, I hope one day my kids are like, remember those, like, cool things like dad had? You know, I'm just like, that's.
Alice
That's this.
Corey
Yeah, exactly.
Alice
Amazing.
Susan
Yeah. So the marble shapes, those are now available. They're all here in stock in Bianco Carrera, and we're so proud of those. The last thing that we'll talk about, we have two more. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Alice
I'm so excited about this one.
Susan
Okay, let's do it right now. Yes. We wanted to develop an easel that was adjustable because we know the art is all different shapes and sizes, and we wanted it to be elevated on a stand.
Corey
I'm going to hold this up and just kind of while you're talking so people can. So rad.
Susan
You can see how it adjusts on the back. You can go up and you can go down, so it adjusts in both directions. And you kind of just turn it. With this little knurled knob in the back, it kind of feels like turning on a lamp and turning off, but you continue to screw until it's looser or tighter. And I think one of the biggest game changers about this easel is the depth. If you can show them the shelf.
Corey
Oh, yeah.
Susan
Those of you that are watching, we've got about an inch and a half of depth, so you can really fit. It might even be 2 inches. Any frame inside of this, and it just clamps it in. And at the top of the easel, you have this spine running through the whole thing. We did a little ball at the end to sort of punctuate the top of it. We love a sphere.
Corey
Yeah.
Susan
I mean, you see us use a sphere a lot. This is solid brass, and I just. This is gonna be fantastic, having a little suspended piece of original art or maybe a little print or maybe a family photo. It could be on your mantel, in your entryway, in your office, behind you, or on your desk. I don't know, Just anywhere.
Alice
This is my favorite thing to do because, I mean, we all love art. We all collect art. And so, again, I don't have any wall space. Zero. So I need to be layering stuff. And so I have it layered on my mantle. I have it layered on my entry chest. Any place that I can, like, surface that I can add more art, like, these are the things that, like, make the biggest difference to be able to show my collection. So I'm super cute.
Susan
Where would you use this in your house?
Alice
I would use. On my mantle. I'd use on my mantle. I dare say I have, like, a couple windows in my bedroom. I might put one, like, on my nightstand just to have something floating. Because, you know, if you have something hanging above your bed, then you, like, you don't want to hang something necessarily above the nightstand. But this is a perfect something to kind of. It's not going to take up depth where you need space to set down books, your, you know, keys, candles, whatever. But it still allows something to occupy that space and be beautiful. So, like, nightstand would be beautiful. Entry chest is awesome because we're usually a big mirror above a chest, often just so you can, like, check yourself before when you're going in and out of the home or guests can. And so to be able to layer, it just. It feels so studied and collected and tells your story better than just not having anything. Just a mirror like, this is so much more interesting. So if you can put this in your entry, like, money game changer on. On the Estelle chest. I like the best size. I like that it's not deep. Yeah, Any mantle can take this.
Susan
Those of you listening, obviously you like design because you're tuning into this. So you probably like styling and restyling your home, and it just kind of gives you a fresh lease on life. You feel like everything's new again. And these little styling tools, like the really good ones, they're going to elevate your own collection. You're going to be able to use your old things in new ways. And I think you'll find that you fall in love with some of your old stuff again by just using something simple like this.
Alice
It's true. Because you're not always looking for a big piece. Sometimes you just, like, need a small something to kind of, like, help rejuvenate what your current collections are already doing for you, and you see it differently.
Corey
Or just, like, add a layer, like you were saying, like a great tool and layering.
Alice
Add a tassel.
Corey
Exactly.
Susan
Do. That's great.
Alice
Okay.
Susan
The last thing is a new candle dish. This is called the bubble dish. You can put a candle in it. You can also toss your jewelry in it. You can use it as an ashtray if you like to smoke Good. Yeah.
Alice
I don't know.
Susan
Yeah, whatever you want to do. But this is the bubble dish, and this is glass. It's smoked, and it's got these orbs that run all the way around it, and it's so fun. This is, I think, just under $15.
Alice
So it's silly prices.
Susan
Well, it's like, when you get invited to that favorite. That favorite things party, and they're like, bring something under $20. This is gonna be like, you're just gonna keep these.
Alice
You're gonna show up with an Alice Lane bag, and they'll be like, no way.
Susan
This way you're just gonna keep this in stock for a couple. Like, oh, my gosh. I forgot it was my coworker's birthday. Or I forgot it was. Anyway, your teacher gift. I just think everybody's gonna love this. You can put a diffuser in it, and we'll keep it from tipping over. You can put that one wick candle in it. You again, you can keep it on your nightstand or by the sink and put your rings and your jewelry in it. It's just so cute and cheerful and fun to look at and fun to play with.
Alice
I will say in the like, matter when everything does get dry. We talk about that a lot of just, like, the surfaces around, like, when everything, you know, whether it's wood or honed marble, which we, of course, love all those things, it's nice to add some of these, like, bits of transparency that do feel wet yet, and just, like, I don't know. It's a totally new dimension. And, like, it makes the space sparkle.
Susan
Yeah, totally.
Alice
I don't think it's too cool.
Susan
Take the candle and just hold it up so they can see.
Alice
I will say every designer has grabbed one of these. I'm pretty sure that works for us. Works for us. They saw it on the, like, front entry table, and they're like, get me those.
Corey
Yeah, we bought five just to, like, throw them, and, like, we're keeping them in a drawer, so, like, when we need a quick gift, we're like, there we go. You know?
Susan
Amazing.
Corey
Yeah.
Susan
Yes.
Alice
It's a pretty color, too. Like, it's not clear, so you're able to see it. Like, if it is on a white surface, it shows up.
Susan
I think if it were just clear glass, it wouldn't look as sophisticated to me. It looks more expensive. It just kind of smoked like this, the glass.
Alice
I love that.
Susan
Yeah, it shows that better.
Alice
Guys, there's so pretty.
Susan
So many more pieces to discover in Spring volume two.
Alice
They're going to say, like, what is that thing on the table?
Susan
Honorable mention. So one of the sets of vases we did, they're called a cumulus glass. Cumulus vase. They look like cumulus clouds to me, the big fluffy ones. And so this is back painted glass. So you can see through the glass, which gives it depth, but then the eye stops and it's just kind of this pretty fog color. And also because it's painted and back painted, you're not going to see any debris in the bottom or whatnot. And the pear, there's one that's a little bit more wide and stout and then there's a taller one and the pair together, I think. Looks like you bought modern art at a gallery. I would leave one empty and just put fresh stems in one. Or you're gonna bring those stems in from foraging. Maybe you want the tall one for that because stems are quite tall and they need the support of a taller vase. So anyway, they'll look beautiful, empty in your entry or your center hall or wherever. And I think they'll sort of modernize it and look like you bought your favorite sculptor's work.
Alice
Mine? Art.
Susan
Yeah. And you're used to seeing that in ceramics, but the fact that it's glass too just makes it feel like. Like it's, I don't know, from Italy or something.
Alice
I really haven't seen anything like it.
Susan
Isn't it cool?
Alice
Super cool.
Susan
Yeah. So this is one of the sets of aces. We have two more sets that are channeled, one in a really beautiful cocoa color and then the other in what we're calling steam, which is kind of similar to this. It's sort of like a kind of a fog. Like it's like off. Off white. Yeah. Yeah. And I just think your stems are going to look so great. The brown is really great because in fashion we're just. Brown is the new black. And it looks really good in a more serious space on top of a dark wood chest. I think the dark looks really good. Or the light, if you like that more fresh aesthetic is lovely. So you'll see those sets of vases, pluck those up so that you can start foraging in your yard for spring. And just having a pair of vases makes you feel like you have a new lease on life, I think even on just a kitchen island or wherever. But it's just an invitation to bring.
Alice
In fresh flowers, get them and like whoever lives with you, you'd be like, it's for all the flowers you're gonna buy.
Susan
Me.
Corey
Yes.
Alice

Podcast Summary: Dear Alice | Interior Design
Episode: The Inside Scoop | Spring Collection Volume 2, Our Favorites and Why
Release Date: March 27, 2025
Hosts: Alice Lane, Jessica Bennett, Suzanne Hall
Duration: Approximately 41 minutes
Timestamp: 00:12 – 04:34
The episode kicks off with the excitement of spring's arrival, as hosts Alice, Suzanne, and Corey (Jessica Bennett) share their delight in the warmer weather and longer days. Alice reflects on the joys of being outdoors, mentioning, “It's 6:00 and it's not dark. Like, the sun is shining. The birds are chirping” ([00:45]). Suzanne highlights her personal connection with nature, discussing her nightly walks through the "Enchanted Forest" behind her home, which rejuvenate her after a long winter. Corey expresses her newfound enthusiasm for spring landscaping, saying, “I've never been huge into, like, oh, spring... but it's been since I've had a yard that I'm like, I'm tired of just seeing. Seeing all these, like, branches” ([01:24]).
Timestamp: 04:34 – 05:39
Transitioning into the main topic, Suzanne announces the launch of Spring Collection Volume 2, a continuation from their highly successful Volume 1. Suzanne explains, “we split it into two to make it a little bit easier to batch it out that way” ([05:39]). The collection boasts approximately 50 new pieces, thoughtfully curated to ensure both variety and accessibility for their audience. Corey emphasizes the shoppability of the collection, stating, “I think everybody's going to be able to get their hands on. On this stuff” ([05:50]).
Timestamp: 05:39 – 13:36
The Brooklyn Collection emerges as the centerpiece of the new volume, celebrated as the collection’s best-seller. Alice praises the collection’s versatility: “Brooklyn is just like, she's our rock star. She's our front man... I was just like, get down, millie. She has 12 drawers. It’s a feat” ([08:40], [17:27]). Suzanne delves into the design evolution, explaining the shift from bleached walnut to a darker finish to align with current market trends favoring “more depth, more warmth” ([09:14]). This transition introduces a richer, more saturated aesthetic that complements modern interior designs. Corey shares insights from their overseas experience, which inspired the darker walnut variant, enhancing the collection’s appeal: “We should think about doing, you know, not bleaching them” ([10:41]).
Timestamp: 13:36 – 17:59
Introducing the Millie Dresser, a smaller counterpart to their foundational piece, the Miles nightstand, Suzanne elaborates on its inception and features. “Miles was the very first nightstand we developed... So we made a smaller version of Miles and called her Millie” ([14:33]). The Millie Dresser impresses with its twelve drawers, the most in any of their products, all inset with undermount glides and soft closes: “Millie dresser has the most drawers we've ever done on anything” ([16:49]). Alice commends the dresser's craftsmanship, highlighting its functional elegance: “It's a lot of work. And yeah, we really had to work on this one to get the price in” ([16:59]). The addition of the Millie Dresser rounds out their collection, offering customers a cohesive set alongside their popular nightstands.
Timestamp: 17:59 – 22:52
A standout accessory in the collection is the Guardian Angel Lamp, a unique find from High Point. Suzanne recounts their discovery of the lamp’s intricate design: “we found this little tiny angel set of candlesticks, and they're real gold” ([17:59]). The lamp features a real brass angel with folded arms, embodying the essence of a guardian angel. They overcame design challenges by implementing a French socket and a beautiful nylon twisted cord to maintain the lamp's aesthetic integrity without compromising its structure: “we ran the wire off the top above the angel's head… it has a really cute little toggle switch” ([19:21]). Alice appreciates the lamp's symbolic meaning and versatility, suggesting placements like mantles, vanities, or entryways: “I love the guardian angel because didn't you do the research? And, like, when the angel is holding their arms, that's technically. That's a guardian angel” ([19:59]).
Timestamp: 25:40 – 31:11
The Estelle Chest, a French-inspired entry piece, is introduced alongside the Ines Rug, a Persian Tabriz runner. Suzanne describes the chest’s functionality and aesthetic appeal: “It feels European. It feels found… Estelle chest is here” ([25:58]). Alice emphasizes its versatility, noting how it complements various styles and serves as a focal point in entryways: “It's neutral enough and easy to decorate around and make some big moves on top” ([26:17]). The Ines Rug enhances the chest’s sophistication with its classic Persian pattern, available in sizes that cater to high-traffic areas: “This is five by seven, four by six, and it's going to take traffic really well” ([27:23]). Corey praises the rug’s timeless design, highlighting its ability to blend seamlessly with diverse interior themes: “It’s like so classic” ([28:12]).
Timestamp: 31:11 – 36:26
Suzanne presents the Key Tassel, an elegant accessory designed to complement various fixtures such as keys, drawers, and lamps: “It's really cute and cheerful and fun to look at and fun to play with” ([29:43]). The tassel’s handmade craftsmanship ensures each piece is unique, while its versatile placement options make it a favorite for quick gifting and personal use.
The hosts also showcase the Marble Shapes, a set of geometric marble pieces inspired by classical art. Alice draws a connection to timeless art education, stating, “they make you learn how to draw a sphere, and then you learn how to draw the cone” ([30:25]). These shapes serve as sophisticated decor elements, perfect for enhancing mantles, entryways, or offices with their solid brass composition and elegant design: “They really invested in it” ([32:12]).
Timestamp: 33:11 – 34:31
The Adjustable Easel is introduced as a versatile tool for displaying various art pieces. Suzanne explains its design features, including adjustable height and depth, accommodating different frame sizes: “you can really fit… any frame inside of this” ([33:29]). The easel’s solid brass construction and aesthetic details, such as the suspended sphere, add a touch of sophistication to any space: “you have this spine running through the whole thing… a little ball at the end” ([34:12]). Alice envisions multiple uses for the easel, from mantles to office desks, enhancing the display of personal art collections: “It's the perfect something to kind of… help rejuvenate what your current collections are already doing for you” ([34:53]).
Timestamp: 36:26 – 38:41
The Bubble Dish is a charming addition to the collection, designed for versatility and aesthetic appeal. Suzanne describes its smoked glass finish and playful orbs: “it has these orbs that run all the way around it” ([36:34]). The dish serves multiple purposes, from holding candles and jewelry to acting as a stylish ashtray. Corey appreciates its handcrafted beauty: “So beautiful” ([30:12]). Alice highlights the dish’s ability to add a spark of creativity to any surface, enhancing the overall decor with its transparent yet sophisticated appearance: “It's not clear, so you're able to see it… makes the space sparkle” ([38:03]).
Timestamp: 38:41 – 40:52
Although not the main focus, the hosts briefly mention the Cumulus Vases, which resemble fluffy cumulus clouds with a back-painted glass design: “you can see through the glass, which gives it depth, but then the eye stops and it's just kind of this pretty fog color” ([39:44]). These vases are available in sets, offering both aesthetic beauty and functional versatility for showcasing fresh or foraged flowers.
Timestamp: 40:52 – End
