Foreign. Hi guys. Can we talk about one of the great loves of my life today, sports betting? Yeah, maybe a controversial take. I was just watching this video on YouTube. Hold on a second.
B
North Jersey man beat incredible odds. Won in nearly 9.8 million, turning $5 into almost half a million dollars. He cashed in on a 14 leg parlay, successfully guessing 14 NFL players who would touchdowns.
C
Yeah, I know, it's insane.
A
By the way, for every one of those that hits, there's a million that don't. But they are fun and you don't have to risk a lot. You could throw five, ten bucks, you could hit it big. I don't know man.
C
I see it like kind of playing the lottery once in a while on a scratch off.
A
Except you get far more return value on your entertainment. Yes, I love sports betting by the way. Listen, if you've ever seen uncut gems, that'll show you the dark side to it. Like there's things you have to worry about using money you can't afford to lose. Addiction, it can go dark, but you know, if you keep it light. Gamble in moderation. Don't spend more than you can afford. It's really fun. You know, one of my favorite gifts to give people is actually like a little 50 or $100 parlay, maybe four or five teams. And if they win, yahoo. If they don't, they get to sweat it with you, your dear friend. Some camaraderie, the elation of hitting that bet with your bff. But yeah, I gotta be careful. I don't want to lose you guys here. Not to over romanticize sports betting, gambling in general, because I've seen it wreak havoc on people's lives. It can get dark. But for the most part, I like gambling. I think it's fun in moderation. I think it's one of the great simple pleasures in life. I enjoy gambling. They say do what you love and the money will follow. Right? I think I said that right. Do what you love and the money will follow. It's a sweet saying, but I also found out I'm wise enough to know that's not always the truth. I loved opening up Schwartz and Sandy's. I love the bar business. Let's just say the money hasn't, you know, exactly been knocking down my door. But I still love it. Passion projects. You live and you learn. Sports betting. Been doing it since I can remember. Lifetime. I'm probably maybe down a little, but even. But the joy it's brought me is worth a lot more than that. That's only because I've lacked, you know, proper bankroll management, some discipline. I get greedy. I like the long shots. Greed is good, Gordon Gekko. No, not if you want to make money and be profitable. Stay profitable short term. Maybe I just play for fun. And I thought maybe I could share this love with you guys. I'm not trying to sway you into becoming a gambler. It's. You know, it's still illegal in some states. I think 38 states have it. I like to hit Vegas and put in some sports bets at the sports book. It's fun, you know, the drama of sweating out your 17 parlay with teams you love. Underdogs, heroes, enemies, villains, all that stuff.
C
It's just. It's drama.
A
It's a soap opera. You know, it's just. I don't know, man. I really enjoy it, but I was thinking, what if you weren't just chasing fun or a little parlay while you're in Las Vegas? What if you're trying to turn this into a side hustle or even a career? Yeah. So I was hoping with this episode, we could talk to someone who's done just that. Minty Betts. You can find her on Instagram. She doesn't use her real name. She'll explain later why. But this is gonna be informative and fun. A little sports betting, 101.
C
Okay.
A
It's cool. Got some good stories. Thighs, the low lows, how you managed the swings, the bad beats, the emotional rushes. So, yeah, we're gonna sit down, we're gonna chat. We already did. I'm recording this afterwards. I really enjoyed the conversation, and I really enjoy sports betting. Just think about it again. You don't have to wager a lot. It could be five bucks. It can be a dollar. It just makes the game a little more exciting. It really does inevitably become more invested in, you know, the players, the backstory, the history. It's fun. I think there's a great community in this world, too. It can be toxic, but for the most part, uplifting and fun. A lot of camaraderie, and I hope you guys enjoy this episode. Minty Betts.
C
Yes.
A
Content creator, influencer. Sports better all around. Great human being. She's gonna give you a little insight on what it's like to be a sports better. So without further ado, let's just get into it. Love you guys so much. And not to be clingy, but I do. I love you.
C
Hey, guys, we're here live with Minty. Okay. If you don't know her, can I. Can I call you a professional sports bettor slash?
B
You can call me a sports betting influencer slash content creator. Sure.
C
Okay. Cool. I was going to say, when people ask you what you do for a living, that's what you tell them. Yes.
B
Yeah, No, I, I don't tell them I bet for a living. I get paid to give out bets for a living, which is cool.
C
That is very cool. And you have one of the most unique professions. I'm always inspired by people who have found a way to make a living pursuing their passion in an unconventional way. So I wanted to give you a shout out and just give you some.
A
Props at the top.
B
Well, thank you so much. I appreciate that. But you know what's funny is that, like, I didn't grow up playing sports or even like watching sports. I really just started sports betting because I was, you know, broke in 21 and I, I just needed a little extra cash and this seemed like the easiest way to do it. And it was not easy.
C
Listen, money one is twice as sweet as money earned, but there's a lot of pain that goes into that, too.
B
Yes, indeed. Especially if you are a fan of a team and you constantly watch your team lose money on the team. That is heartbreaking.
C
I'm sure we're going to get into it, you guys. By the way, just off the top, never bet with your heart, right? Is it safe to say, Is that a rule of thumb? Never bet with your heart, Bet with your mind.
B
Never bet with your heart? Yes. Correct. Bet with your head. And if you can't find anything good, then just lay off.
C
You can trust your intuition, but when it comes to your heart, it's going to end up with heartbreak usually. That's why I never bet on Florida State. I never bet on Florida State. It's just too much pain when they lose.
B
Ooh, really? Wait, aren't they good this season? I'm. I don't really follow college football, but they're so good.
C
They're playing Miami today. They're 4 0, I think Miami's 3 and 1 heated rivalry. I went to Florida State University, so I'm really hyped today. I'm pregaming, in a sense with Minty. And I'm so freaking grateful to have you here. I have a lot of questions. I thought it'd be fun. Well, first of all, I think, I think women, or actually just anyone who's cool, love to see women successful in a predominantly male dominated industry.
B
Yes, yes, absolutely. I, I stand and applaud any women in male Fields. And I want to see more.
C
Yes. Minty, can you tell us a little bit about your journey to this, to where you're at now in life? Like, how did you fall into this very unique world?
B
Yeah, absolutely. Well, I was born and raised in Las Vegas. I've actually never lived anywhere outside of Las Vegas, so I'm, you know, one of the girls that stayed in the hometown. But yeah, when I was growing up, I was a very quiet girl. I didn't like sports, didn't watch sports, didn't play them. And I really only got into the sports betting industry because I wanted to make a little extra cash As a broke 21 year old, you know, and at the time I was working out of, actually went to school for floral design, like, you know, arranging flowers and doing wedding flowers and event flowers. So this is like a completely different, you know, industry to have fallen into. But I started studying sports and the art of betting and trying to become profitable and it, you know, it has its ups and downs, but I, you know, am in this sports betting media industry now because I was really in the right place at the right time. I started a Twitter maybe back in 2019, and I just started posting my betting pics and following other bettors and I posted a video of myself giving pics and it blew up. And I landed a job after that in, at a really good company and I was with them for several years. Now I'm with FanDuel and UFC giving out my betting pick. So it's been an awesome and very random journey.
C
Serendipity, good timing and can I just take a moment to give you a shout out for how far you've come and how much success you've had? Because it's a gamble.
B
Thank you so much. Yeah, yeah, gambling is a gamble. And like, I had to quit my job and do this full time and it was like, you know, there's no, I don't want to say there's no benefits to it, but I mean, like, long term, like, you know, there's. There's no security in sports betting, you.
C
Know, and especially in the beginning, in, you know, when you decide to make that leap of faith, there's, I imagine, a profound amount of insecurity. Did you find yourself almost like, I don't know, embarrassed to tell people when you started the journey? Like, like, maybe a little bit, you had a little bit of chagrin. You know, I'm going to be a professional gambler.
B
Not really a man, but I was very, very cautious of telling people because, like, when I told men, they'd be like, they'd start to quiz me, you know, like, oh, how many players on a basketball team or who, you know, who won the championship in 76.
C
I'm like, no quick demands playing.
B
Yeah, yeah, exactly. So, yeah, it was more of an embarrassing thing to say, but it was like, I'm going to be cautious of who I tell it to until I succeed.
C
Which I think is a great rule of thumb in life in general. You know, when you're pursuing something, you have a dream, a vision, a goal. It's better not to broadcast it to the world until you're really doing it. I find, like, that's a jinx. We could come back to superstition later because I want to know if you're superstitious and you have rituals. We can come back to that later.
A
Hello, fresh. Hello, fall. I know it's fall, you guys. Am I being annoying about fall? I just love it. I just feel like my heart beats a little slower. My cortisol levels are lower. It's my favorite time of the year. I'm couch surfing NFL Sunday this week. I'm gonna make the broccoli cheddar pinwheels. I love those with the marinara sauce. Not the ranch, obviously. I'm sorry, ranch lovers, but I don't love you. I do. I just don't love your choice in sauces. You guys know there's actually a ranch themed festival once a year in Pennsylvania. Yeah, ranch in the valley. No, thank you. I think I'll just stay in the valley. Also, guys trying to be a little healthier. More detox than retox. Hellofresh is keeping me balance harmonized. C
Okay, Minty. I love sports betting. Do I do it professionally? Will I ever do it professionally? No, I'm a recreational player. I do it for entertainment. Maybe a little escape, but not like in a problematic way. But yes, I'm trying, like, for no one who's ever sports betted or bet on sports. That sounds better. I'm trying to romanticize it a little bit, you know, but I have to be careful because I know there's pitfalls, there's gambling addictions, there's a dark side. But like, like you said, if you take some time to educate yourself, if you're smart about the way you bet, I think it can be an amazing hobby, maybe an alternative revenue income, a side hustle, and also a really good.
A
Way to find a sense of community.
C
And camaraderie and also just really enhance the entertainment value when you're watching a game.
B
Yeah, absolutely. Like, there are certain spots I absolutely cannot get into unless I have, like, a little action on it. Of course. Like football. I love football. Football's king bas. Ball can be a little slow. And I am not really much into basketball, but again, if I have something on a player or a side or total, then I'm totally into it. And it just so much more fun to watch at home or when you attend a game.
C
Yes. I mean, did you get, like. Not that I'm mad. Not that you should ever care what other people think, but did you get some. I don't know, did you get people questioning you morally? Like, it's like, because it has kind of like a shady reputation, a controversial reputation, gambling in general. Did you get. Did you get some flack from your friends and family in the beginning?
B
Not. Not from friends and family, but strangers. I mean, I always get the comments of like, you know, when I give out picks and I'm just doing my job, they're always like, you know, gambling is a sin. Or like, people think, like, the game is rigged. They're like, oh, she works for FanDuel. So, yeah, yeah, FanDuel is going to call me up and be like, you're giving out too many winners. You got to give a loser here because we need the money. Like, that's not. It's not like that, you know, and it's so people really, like, doubt, like, you know, the picks that I give out.
C
No, it's so easy when you're on a losing streak. It's so easy to succumb to conspiracy theories about it being rigged. The NFL, scripted online poker algorithms are all rigged. Like, it's in. You know, and sometimes there's some truth to that with some of the seedier websites and stuff. But like, it's not. It's not just luck.
A
All right?
C
It can be a profession if you pursue it wisely and you treat it like a job.
A
Right.
C
The best betters use data, statistics, bankroll management. I know it's not the most fun, sexy terms, but if you're smart and you do it right, it's like, you know, it's more of like an investment than a gamble. Discipline, math, strategy, you have long term goals. You're not results oriented on a day to day basis. You're thinking long term. And it's exactly right. It's not for the faint of heart, though.
B
It's not. And Tom, I want to ask you, what is your favorite form of gambling? Do you like sports betting or are you more of a table games guy? Slots, like, what is it that you like?
C
I'm pretty conservative. I pretty much stick to Russian ping pong, prop bets. I'm just kidding.
B
Yeah, in 2020, maybe that wouldn't have been a surprising answer.
C
That was a. That was a nod to my degenerate friends who cannot get enough action. They bet on what they're going to eat for breakfast. But I don't know. I've always just been a recreational gambler. I was born with it. I enjoy gambling. I do it in moderation. I only gamble when I can afford to lose. And we can. I would love to go back to bankroll management with you a little bit later if that's okay. And by the way, I know we just started chatting and this is maybe too personal, but not to just dive into it. Can I ask you the most you've ever made in a day? I don't know if you're comfortable with that.
B
Well, you know, that's hard to say because I've gambled so many days, but I will tell you my biggest win. And that was. I'm trying to think of the year, maybe 20. Remember what year the Nationals won the World Series? I had them to win the National League that year. I bet on them in July after they had gone. Gone downhill. And I saw them coming, coming on the up and up. And so I bet them to win the national league at 12 to 1. And that was my biggest win. That was like the biggest future bet I ever won. And you know, the Nationals weren't really that good, but. Yeah, that was the biggest one I had.
A
That's sweet.
C
Yeah. Sorry, I didn't mean to get too personal.
B
I think it was 2019.
C
Yeah, no, it's. But the rush, the rush of a big win. It's so much. And it really just makes watching it so much more entertaining, right?
A
Yes, it really does.
B
Yeah, absolutely.
C
Minty. You like reality tv?
B
I love reality tv.
C
Should we just talk about reality TV instead? Oh, no, no.
B
I mean, currently, I'm on the. I'm on the current season of 90 Day Fiance. That's the reality show I'm watching right now. And I love, like, cooking competition shows as well.
C
Me, too. I'm obsessed with Top Chef, Be Bobby Flay, all that stuff before we started recording. Wait, you've. You've watched Vanderpump Rules?
B
Yeah, I have watched Vanderpump Were Rules. And I told you, and I'm going to tell your listeners here that I used to cocktail serve at the Golden Nugget pool in Las Vegas, and you and the crew came to the Golden Nugget pool every year, every summer. And I was so mad, I never got you guys seated in my section. Like, I never got that section assigned to me whenever you guys were there. So. And I never said hi, but our paths have crossed before, and I think it's such a small world and so funny that we're. We're speaking now.
C
I know. It's a beautiful thing. Full circle. And by the way, you guys, despite what Stassi said, season one, the Golden Nugget is amazing. Minty, can we just. I used to be, like, an unintended Golden Nugget influencer. Me and Sandoval used to go there all the time.
B
We.
C
Whether or not we stayed on the Strip or downtown, we would always make it a point to stop by the Golden Nugget. I feel like it's the best of old Vegas and New Vegas. It has one of the best pools. It has a water slide that cuts through an aquarium.
A
Right.
B
Like, do you have fun, by the way?
C
Oh, God, wait. We're going to get derailed here, because I could do a whole conversation about what it's like working at the Golden Nugget because Fremont street has some of the best people watching in the world. And I don't mean that judgmentally, but I'm sure you have insane stories, Minty.
B
Yeah, I have some pretty funny stories. I mean, they. I feel, like, not as crazy as, like, in la, but I don't know, people go pretty wild in Vegas. Like, they think there are no rules in Vegas, that's for sure.
C
No. Yeah. One of the best slogans ever. What happens here stays here. Unless you do reality tv, then it becomes major storylines.
B
Yeah.
C
By the way, that's Like, Like. Like sports and sports betting. There's a lot of parallels with reality tv, right? You have great storylines. You have rivalries, underdogs. We all love an underdog. You have villains, you've got heroes. We have. We love a redemption arc. We love a dark horse. We love the heartbreaks, the plot twists, the rivalries, upsets, everything. Yes. It's so fun. And it's like, I mean, listen, I love rooting for the underdog. I love. I love a good scandal. And that's not. As long as it's not revolving around my life, but, you know, like, deflate.
B
I love drama when it's not me.
C
Exactly. You know? Yeah. Steroids, the Astros, science, stealing, drama. Like, I love all that stuff. And it's like. It's like most people, when I talk to them in the bars, they start watching Vanderpump Rules casually. You're like, yeah, what is this next thing you know, you know, every intimate detail about Jax Taylor or something like that. It's like the same with sports. In sports betting, you know, all of a sudden you put your force, your first bed in, and you're crying because Joe Burrow. Joe Shiesty has turf toe. He's going to be out for this season and completely wrecked your fantasy team.
B
Tragic. Oh, no. Did you have Joe Burrow in your fantasy team?
C
No, I didn't. But I just love the drama. I do love the drama.
B
Yeah, I live for the drama, but, yeah, I don't like to see the good players go out like that. I mean, all players are good, but. Or else they wouldn't be in the NFL. But I don't like to see players go out like that, especially so early on. And the Bengals have seen. Had so much to prove. Remember, they made it all the way to the super bowl, and then it's just been downhill from them because of their defense, because of their O line, and it's. It's sad.
C
It is sad. Shout out to Joe Burrow. Joe Shiesty. By the way, I love. You know what I love to see, right? There's like a renaissance of people going out to the bars and watching reality tv. You know what I mean? Have you seen.
B
Yeah. Yes. So there is this, like, beautiful, like, new cocktail lounge here in Vegas. It's off the Strip. And they actually had, like, a Love island watch party for all the girls. And I was like, that's cool. Like, and the Bachelor, Bachelorette. Like, I thought it was so cool. And I'm here for. Even though I haven't attended those I think it is. It's nice that we women finally get, you know, reality TV watch parties instead of just like Thursday night, Monday Night Football.
C
I think it's done a good, good job helping people understand for non sports fans, helping them understand the passion, the fire, the upset, you know, the tears. You get so invested in their story. Like when you're fist pumping for Amaya papaya at the Love island finale or whatever. You know what I mean? Like, there's a lot of parallels there, so I just want to acknowledge that.
B
Yeah, it's fun. And, you know, I never really thought of sports being similar to reality TV until you mentioned it. So that's a lot to think about later.
C
Yeah. Minty. We love the drama as long as it doesn't revolve around us, right?
B
Exactly. Or the ones we love.
C
Or the ones we love. Lord knows I've had enough.
B
Just like the acquaintances.
C
But I think unequivocally, it really does enhance the viewing experience. When I. When I'm watching it, all of a sudden I'm an armchair analyst, an armchair quarterback. I'm analyzing every play. I'm like, put me in, coach. I quarter. I was quarterback in sixth grade, minty. And what's like, I was JJ's last game. JB McCarthy, the Vikings. I was like, you know what? Just put me in. Put me in. I love jj, but I'm ready. I'm ready. Isn't it funny how we become, you.
B
Know, I. I want the Raiders to put me in for Geno. Like, I'm. I'm sick of seeing Geno Smith suffer. The Raiders, you know, that's my hometown team. Am I a fan? No, but I kind of have. Because Vegas, it's brutal. It is brutal watching them every week.
A
Guys, Halloween decorations are up. I've watched the craft twice already.
C
Yeah. Light is a feather. Stiff as a board.
A
We are locked in on comfort. We're in the cloud. Not in the club. As in. The cloud is a fully legal online dispensary. It's already moved over 10 million gummies and mountains of exotic flour.
C
Enough pre rolls to impress Snoop Dogg.

A
It's the coziest time of the year, guys, but I'm still a little sleep deprived. Having trouble sleeping. Or I was at least into cloud. I have in my hand right now, they have these gummies, these ones I'm holding, by the way. I have A weird thing about taking sleeping pills, but the bliss gummies, elderberry ones.
C
There's 10 gummies, 5mg THC 10mg.
A
They're amazing. They are amazing.
C
The elderberry gummies are actually bliss. They're helping me sleep so much. So Listen, if you're 21 or older.

C
Minty. For someone who's never bet on sports and they're thinking about it, they're curious, but they're a little intimidated, why should someone start betting on sports?
B
Well, like you had mentioned earlier, it is just an a way to, like, immerse yourself in the game. It is a. A good way to understand it a little more. Not saying that all men watch sport and no women watch sports and watch sport, but, like, you know, maybe we notice things that they don't and we can make a little bit of money off of that. Maybe we have a favorite player that we would like to, you know, root for and we can do so while making money off of them. So, you know, there's just, obviously there's so many pros and cons to sports betting. As long as we are responsible, I think it harmless. A $5 parlay, you know, 10, 10 bucks here and there. Pizza money. Like, definitely start off small and, like, bet what you can. But yeah, it's just like a fun way to get into sports and a way to make a little extra cash.
C
Exactly. And it can be a little intimidating. Can we do a Little Sports Betting 101 and maybe help the listeners just understand a little bit, just, like, basic stuff. I know you're a pro.
B
Yes.
C
But just like, I want to help people just understand the basics. So, like, can we talk about spread versus Moneyline?
B
Yeah, absolutely. So there's a couple ways to bet on sports. You can. Let's just say, what's a good matchup? Let's just say team A, Team B, team favored to win by three points this weekend in football, which means team B is the underdog of three points. If you want to bet on team A, the favorite on the money line, that means you're just betting them to win. And they do not have to win by a certain amount of points, but you are paying a little bit more to win versus if you bet the underdog team B to win, you're risking less, but you get a higher reward. Now, if you bet against the spread and team A is favored by three points, that means they have to win by three or more points for you to win money versus team B, they can lose by no more than three points or they can win outright. And it's like, very confusing if I don't have any graphics. It's very, very confusing. But ye. You can bet someone to win straight up on the money line, or you can bet them to cover the spread for you'll pay a little less. It's. It's a little. It a little confusing if you.
C
If you see the minus. Yeah, Minty. Minty. She's essentially saying if you see the minus, the team's a favorite, they're favored. If you see a plus, they're the underdog. And if. And if you see a plus, you can risk less and win more. But it's riskier.
B
Yes, it is riskier. And you know, you have to know odds. There's always like a number next to all the teams, all the different bets and the odds tell us the implied chance that that bet has of winning. Obviously, favorites don't win all the time. So this is where research kind of comes in, and you need to pick and choose based off of what however you do research, whether it's numbers or data, stats or just a gut feeling, you know, that's. That's kind of where it comes in. So it's a little tricky. And trust me, like, when I first started sports betting, I bet with my heart all the time. I just bet for teams all the time or teams that I had heard of in the past and it didn't end well. So it's important to at least, like, focus on one team or one division and then kind of go from there.
C
Yes, exactly. So just to give a quick example, by the way, I'll. We're not doing video for this one, but I'll post some infographics for you guys. Let's just say, okay, a team is minus 150. That means if you. You would have to bet $150 to win 100.
B
Yes, yes. And it have to bet 150. You can bet $15 and win $10. You know, but that's just like the prime example of, like, it's easiest to know. Yeah. Plus 150 or minus 150 means you have to bet $150. And if they win, you win a hundred dollars versus if it's plus 150, you bet $100 and you win $150 back.
A
Perfect.
C
That's it. See, it's not that hard, you guys. Over, under, over, under. We're just betting on the total amount of points scored.
B
Yes, correct. Let's say the over, under, and you'll always see a half point. Now, of course, in sports, we don't score half points, but this is a little wiggle room for the sportsbook. Say you bet the game to go over 40 and a half points, and they score 40 points, you lose your bet because they had to have scored 40, 41 versus if you had bet the under, the under 40 and a half points, and if they scored 40 points, you would have won. So it's a little tricky with the. With the hook there. The half point.
C
I know, and it looks so innocuous, but that little half point, minty, has cost me so many bets and so much heartbreak. You guys, you can also buy points. I know this is kind of getting it. We don't want to get too advanced here for this episode, but you can buy points down to increase your odds of winning. Yes. But it's going to cost you extra money on the vig.
B
It does cost you a little extra money. I never really buy points, but my father is a degenerate and he will tease past. He breaks all the rules. Tease past zero. He buys up to eight, seven and a half. I'm like. Just like me. But yeah. So if. Again, if you do not. If you see a bet and you don't love it, you are absolutely welcome to buy points just so you get, you know, a more comfortable number. But you don't have to do that.
C
Yeah, and you can. Yeah, you can buy points. You can also do teasers, which essentially you can do like a three point teaser or six point teaser. A seven point teaser. It's essentially cushions your bet. If you want to do a three team teaser, say each team was plus seven. You can. You can buy it up to plus 10. So it just gives you a little more cushion, a little more leeway in case things go. In case things go south. Right?
B
Yeah. Or in case you don't really trust a team to cover a certain amount of points and you need a little more cushion. You can tease it. It's A very popular option.
C
Yeah. And by the way, for. For the remainder of this podcast, you guys can just call me Eddie Mush, because I'm a jinx and I'm greedy and I only bet parlays. Don't do what I do. We're going to get into that, too. Straight bets are the way to go, right, Minty? Straight bets.
B
Straight bets are the way to go. They're just less fun because, like, you just have to put more money and put more trust into, like, what, one team or one side to win versus parlays. You can bet multiple teams and multiple different bets. It can be totals or props or sides, and you can marry it into one bet. However, if one bet on that ticket loses, you lose the entire thing. Even if you win, like, every single bet on that parlay and one bet loses, the whole thing loses. And that's the. The heartbreak of parlays. And that is why they say suckers only vet parlays.
C
Minty just called me a sucker, and I am hurt and offended, but she's not wrong. She's not wrong.
B
I do it too. And it's fun, man. Like, especially when you hit the parlay. Just the one parlay. You're just like, oh, I can do this every day.
C
Last year, my mom was in town for the Emmys. We were nominated for an Emmy for Vanderpump Rules, and we were getting all dolled up. And the day after was just Sunday. I had a six team touchdown score parlay, and I ended up hitting it. I turned a hundred dollars into ten thousand dollars, and it was one of the best feelings of my life. I gave the money to my mom, shout out to my mom, and I'm trying to score brownie points here, Minty, but it was one of the best feelings I've ever had.
B
That is amazing. No, I've never hit anything more than, like, a five leg parlay. That is amazing. Now, how did you feel after you gave it to your mom? I got to ask because, like, I. When I win too, I give a share to my mom, but I don't know if I give the whole thing.
C
I don't want to give myself too much credit and try to. Like, she was going through a situation, so she needed some help financially. So I felt so good just to be like, you know what, Mom? I got you. It felt like a gift from the heavens, you know what I mean? Some sort of cosmic intervention. Not that I couldn't have done it before, but, like, just that day in particular, in those unique circumstances and and yeah, listen, I don't want to create a legion of degenerate gamblers here, but it does feel really good to win money. Especially like I said earlier, it's twice as sweet as money earned.
A
Right?
B
Yeah, exactly. Like all the stars aligned for you and your mom that day. So that's actually really, really cool. I hope you hit one again this season. We got to hit one every single season. A Dean touchdown score parlay. That's insane.
C
Okay, yeah, that's, yeah, that's a little advanced and a little greedy. But could we, could we do like a Little Bankroll Management 101, just like Simple.
B
Absolutely.
C
Is that okay?
B
Yes. So, yeah, so bankroll management is very, very important in sports betting because you need to pretty much set aside like a certain amount that you are okay. Betting and losing. Like this should be a separate account. Money you don't need for bills and stuff. Like this is like fun money. You should only bet. They should say you should only bet per bet, which is 1% of your bankroll. However much that is, whether it's 5 bucks, 10 bucks, 15, doesn't matter. The most you should ever bet.
A
Oh, sorry, sorry.
B
And the most you should ever bet is. It's okay. Most you should ever bet is 5% of your bankroll. That should be the max. You should not bet anymore. Of course, like when we start out betting, we don't those rules because we're like, you know, we're so confident. When we put in our first couple bets, we're just like, yeah, I don't need a bankroll management. I'll just double this and then whatever.
C
Minty, I have a confession to make. Last Sunday, I bet 100% of my bankroll on a five team parlay and it did not hit.
B
Oh, man, I'm so sorry that happened to you. But hey, sometimes we get greedy and like, sometimes when, like, you know, some sharper betters tell me, like, hey, I've got like a good amount on this fighter or this team this weekend. I'll be like, oh yeah, I'm going to double down and I'll follow you. I'll take. And sometimes it doesn't work out.
C
So yes, a unit is just a standard measure for your bet size. Right. For the, for the, the uninitiated. And let's. Can we do it like in the example? Let's just say. Let's say you have a thousand dollar bankroll and you set your unit size to 2%. So one unit would be 20 bucks, right? Wait, yeah, 20 bucks. And that means you should only bet $20 as a standard play. I know it's not super fun, it's not super sexy, but if you're thinking long term and you really want to turn this into a side hustle or a profession, this is the way you have to start. Bankroll management is essential. Yes.
B
Yes, absolutely. And then when you start getting into the flow of things, wait a couple months, then you can, you know, fix your bankroll size to, however, whatever makes you comfortable. It happens all the time. Like, I. I would bet 10, 20 bucks, and then I've increased since then and there's absolutely no shame to it. And if you ever post your stuff online, which I know you don't, but I do.
C
Oh, I do.
B
I never, ever post. I never, ever post the amount that I bet. Because no matter what, people are going to judge you. But they shouldn't because they're losers.
C
I usually sweat my bets. Sunday parlays. If you guys want to follow me. They're not the best. It's like half analytics, half intuition. Follow minty, not mushy. Yes.
A

C
Yourself with some common mistakes to avoid. If you really want to take this seriously, you guys, Minty will confirm this. Never chase your losses, right?
B
Yes. Never chase your losses. I, I have definitely improved like in terms of like discipline, self discipline because I always used to chase my losses, like if my bet lost, oh, there's another game in an hour. I'm just going to bet on that even though I don't really care about it. No, don't, don't, don't do it. Literally, just bet on games you feel good about because that's how your bankroll will decrease and that's how you fall into a pit of despair and depression.
C
Yes. You don't double down if you're taking it seriously. You don't double down on the next game and try to get your money back. I've done it. It usually doesn't end well. So just. Yeah, sorry.
B
There's a tempting thing. Sorry to interrupt you. Live betting is also another option and that can be profitable, especially if you know how a certain team plays. Like if teams usually come from behind and you know, are show off more in the second half. Live betting can be very profitable. But that is a very dangerous way to also chase your losses if it's not going well. That's where the adrenaline would also call it hedging. Some would also call it hedging your bets, which, you know, good or bad, it really depends, you know.
C
He asks live betting is I. For amateurs like myself. It's kind of an adrenaline junkie thing. Can you explain to the audience what live betting is? It's, I think it's pretty self explanatory.
B
But yeah, pretty much as the game is going, you can bet on the game. Now you won't get the same like odds and prices as you would pre game. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. But yeah, again, like the only time that I ever live bet is if I'm betting on a team that I know their habits, like the Kansas City Chiefs for instance. Like they usually start out a little slow, but they show up in the second half and if you wait till like they're down a couple of points, like down a score or so, you can get the Chiefs as underdogs, which is, you know, plus money, you'll get more money, less, less risk. So yeah, live betting is a way that you can bet during the game if you can see it play out a certain way it can be both fun and dangerous. So be very cautious.
C
That is a great advice, Minty. Thank you for that. Also, we talked about the drama. We love it. Betting with emotion can be a slippery slope. Impulse bets out of frustration. Again, trying to make your money back. Overconfidence, superstition, or just loyalty to your favorite team. Or maybe you just like the color of their jerseys. That's fun and that's okay. Or their mascot, that is totally fine, by the way. But if you're wanting to step up your game and pursue this professionally or as like, you know, part time, way to make extra money, maybe avoid betting.
A
With your emotions, right?
B
Absolutely.
A
Yeah.
B
Absolutely. Yeah. Professional sports bettors don't have favorite teams. Like they. Their favorite teams are the ones that have won them the most money. And degenerates like myself have random gear from many random teams. So that's also. My closet's funny.
C
And if you are pursuing this, you're trying to level up, you want to keep records, right? To just objectively obsess your performance, identify your strengths or your leaks, which means your weaknesses in this world. Right. And in poker.
B
Yes. Yes. I never used to record, keep, or like, keep track of my bets. When I first started, I just was like, what is the important importance of this, of it? Now I do, although it's so tedious and like, I hate doing it sometimes, especially when I'm putting in my losses, I'm like, oh, I wish I didn't have to. But yeah, you're right. It definitely targets your weaknesses and your strengths and maybe where you could risk less units or more next time. Yeah. It is very important to track your bets year by year. And then you'll see if you're, you know, long term profitable. And if you are, you got this.
C
That's the thing. It is hard to think long term. And I know it's not as romantic. You know, you want to live and die by the day, but, you know, if you, if you gamble for 30 days and maybe you've lost, you were in the red 16 of those days and the other half green, like, you might come out profitable. You got to think long term.
B
Exactly.
A
And.
B
Exactly. And you know, I'm going to be Honest, I've lost 17 days in a row, one year. It was horrible. I didn't think I would ever come back up from it. But there are times when you go through these really, really cold streaks where you lose every single day. And no matter what, you know, no matter what, you think you're on the right side, you're not it. It sucks. And that's when you know you need to take a break.
C
Yes. Take a break. Being able to chill out for a little bit. How do you mitigate your losing streaks? Or do you have, do you have a ritual or a pre programmed, some sort of discipline you do when you're on a cold streak? I mean, you're in it for the long haul. So I know you're not thinking about it, but like say you. Yeah. After your 17 day losing streak, what did you do to cope?
B
I stayed away from social media. I didn't watch any games. I just like kind of gave myself a, a detox, a reset of sorts. And yeah, it's, it's okay to like step away and just like not be involved in betting at all and then come back fresh. There are some times though, like it gets tricky with my job, like let's say UFC or, or FanDuel for instance. Like I am, you know, contracted to give out picks on certain days or for certain games or fights. It is very difficult when I have to do it and it fall on the days of my cold streaks. But you just got to do it. You have to develop thick skin if you're going to be in the sports betting media industry because you're putting your face to the bets and it's just like, it can be mentally exhausting and it really gets you down sometimes. But you just, I mean, you know of, you know more than anyone of reality tv. Like people will say things and think things that aren't true, but that's just how it's portrayed and you can't really do anything about it.
C
Also when you do make selections and people follow you and they lose, they can be very vindictive and cruel and nasty. Online you can get doxed, threatened. I've seen it happen to sharps and bookies.
A
Right. Have you ever experienced this?
B
Yes, absolutely. And that's also why like in the sports betting world we don't use our real name. So yeah, like my name, Minty, it is part of my real name. But like I don't, I don't give out my real, real name. That's A lot of other sports bettors do the same thing because like, even though you're not telling people to bet on your picks, you're just giving them out and saying, hey, this is my best bet and this is what I'm on. People ultimately make their own decisions with their own money and want to find someone to blame when they lose their money totally.
C
And I've seen The dark side of how that goes. And it could get nasty. You guys don't. I think the mantra of the episode should be don't bet more than you can afford to lose. Exactly.
B
That goes for all gambling.
C
If hitting your Sunday parlay is your only hope to pay rent or get groceries that week, then you're going to go down a very dark path.
A
Right?
B
Yeah. Yeah. I. Luckily I don't know anyone who does that, but there are people that like, literally just depend on their sports bets just to pay the bills. Which is insane to me because, like, although people think I'm a professional sports better in a way that I make money off of sports betting, I don't. I mean, I do it a lot, but it's not my sole form of income.
C
Totally. You've been doing it so long though. You've had a lot of success. Minty, do you, you're, you're. I can tell you're not jaded, but do you still get that rush or is it just more business now, more analytical?
B
No, I still get the rush, you know, I mean, I'm still into every game. Yeah. I'll never lose that like spark for sports betting and like that high after winning. Of course, when I lose, I'm just like, oh, today was such a crap day. But no, it's still really fun to me. Although when we are in the dog days of summer when it's like baseball season and there's like nothing else on, that's when I'm like, I don't really care to bet or anything. Like, it's my summer off. I don't want to do anything even like hitting a baseball.
C
Yeah.
B
I don't know why I don't feel as happy as like hockey or football.
C
Well, then you have 90 day fiance to tie you over.
B
Exactly, exactly. You're a hockey fan, aren't you?
C
No, Minty, I'm. I think I'm one of the only people in the history of Minnesota to be born there and not play hockey. I know. I'm ashamed.
B
Okay, that makes sense. No, I, I get it. I mean, like, not everyone's a hockey. It's a Canadian. And I know you're in. Minnesota is very close. Yeah. That is actually kind of odd at least. I mean, do you like the wild? Do you like them?
C
Of course I love the wild. I go to king. I go to probably a couple Kings games a year. I love hockey. I love live sports in general. My favorite personal bet, I was going to ask you. My favorite personal bet, guys, is no runs first inning. Major League Baseball. That's all they have to do is not score in the first inning and you win.
B
Yes. Nerfies, as they call it. Yeah. I also love no runs in the first inning, especially if you got like, great pitcher on the mound on both sides. But there are a couple pitchers, like, and this might be a little off, but, like, there are a couple pitchers who, you know, you're like, oh, they're definitely going to give up like several runs in the first. So, yes, runs in the first inning is also an exciting one. But yeah, I also have favorite bets as well with every sport. And that's funny. I think every sports better does. Yeah.
C
Can I ask you what one of your favorite prop bets is? You guys, prop bets are just betting on something specific to happen. Touchdowns throwing pats, yards received. Yeah.
B
What's your favorite yards I in. In the NFL? I love kicker props. You can bet on the amount of, like, field goals made or total kicking points. That's the one that I love the most because not a lot of people bet on the kickers, but a lot of the time the game comes down to the kicker. So that's why. And they're the numbers usually set as high as seven and a half kicking points or as low as like five and a half kicking points. So, like, I don't know. I think there's just a. I think it's an untapped market, in my opinion.
C
I concur. All right, so if you're, if you're listening, this is honestly, like, too much jargon. I. I'm over my head. Can we just do a hypothetical together? You're in Vegas. You like watching sports. You've never bet on a game before. How do you think you should proceed? Because the sports book can be intimidating. Could you, could you walk someone through what you think would be the best bet, the easiest, least intimidating best bet for your first sports bet ever in Las Vegas?
B
Yes. Okay. So first of all, I have a lot of, like, social anxiety. And even, like, though I sports bet every day, I can count the number of times on one hand where I've gone up to the window to the attendant and given them my bet. Like, now all these casinos have kiosks, okay? So you just put your cash in the kiosk and you have time to go through all the bets and pick it out. Like, you don't have to talk to anyone. And this is, my advice, is go to the kiosk so you have a lot of time. And you know, if there's a Line, just be like, okay, just cut in front of me. But the most popular bets are going to be a side. So just pick a winner or the total.
C
That's Moneyline, right? Moneyline or over under is probably the best bet.
B
Moneyline or over under. Or if you're feeling a little. A little risky against the spread, but like, Moneyline or over Unders, like, those are the two sure fire, like, most popular bets you can make in Vegas. Again, there's no right or wrong amount of money you should put down, but definitely be aware of the odds. And that's. I mean, that's kind of it. And then you hold your ticket and just say a prayer. Like, wait.
C
On that note, do you have any Sunday Funday watching rituals? Are you superstitious? Can you take us through. Yeah. Your ritualistic Sunday.
B
Yes, I am pretty superstitious. So I like to watch games at home. Like, I love the energy of, like, going to the sports book. Of course, the energy at games is, like, unmatched. But I'm not gonna sit through four hours in football. But yeah, I have, like two TVs in my living room where I'll have red zone on one and then the four screen on the other, and I'll watch my games. And when I have bets, I do not mention my bets at all because I think it's superstitious. And like, if I, if I need, like, one team to slip up because I have the other side, I will never say anything bad about the other team because it's just like bad karma.
C
Karma is real.
B
Is real. And it will chase you. Yeah. I don't speak negatively about the team that I'm betting against. And I don't know if you're like this. I don't know anyone like this. But if I bet on a certain team last week, I will not bet on them again the following week because the luck is gone, if that makes sense. But that's about it. I don't have any other superstitions that I can think of. What about you, Tom? You're a superstitious person.
C
I love that you're superstitious. I don't know it. For me, it just. Again, I keep using the word romance. Romance. I, it keeps it exciting and romantic for me. My biggest thing is if I, if, If it comes down to a critical play for me, winning or losing a bet, I have to turn the TV off or walk away. I know, I know.
B
My mom, anytime something bad is about to happen, she just turns it off and walks away.
C
Well, if you've watched me on Vanderpump Rules. You know, I don't do well with drama, with confrontation, and I just can't handle it. Minty.
B
Yeah, I, you know, one of my favorite parts, and I'm so sorry to like, dig up like the past and stuff. One of my favorite parts or of that show is like, earlier in the seasons when I think Lisa gave you a chance to work at SUR and then you quit on the spot. And then she came over the next day and she said something like, can you make me a cup of tea? Without like, having a panic attack. And I will always remember that moment. It's like the funny. Wow, you seem like you don't really do well under pressure or like, yeah.
C
That is the old me. I've rebranded. I am stoic, resilient, valiant, and I do not fold under pressure anymore. But yes, I like to think of it more of as an existential crisis rather than a panic attack, an epiphany. Me realizing, minty, I don't want to work work in the customer service industry anymore. At least not as a server or a bartender. I'm sure you had that moment eventually, right?
B
Yes, I did. Although sometimes when I have like, really like the cold streaks and really bad days, like betting days, I'm just like, I just want a cocktail again. Because I. It was good money and I was for sure going to go home with cash every day and I didn't have to worry about work at the end of the day or people saying anything bad about me. Sometimes I reminisce and, you know, I want to go back those days, but yeah, no, I don't want to do that again.
C
Not to bring it up again, but Golden Nugget, overrated.
B
Underrated because I work there and I saw the behind the scenes. It's a little overrated. Only because. Only because they did not take care of the property very well. Like the pool, like the things that you guys saw cool. But like, behind the scenes, everything was so old and they like, did not want to replace anything and they just like, did not care about their property at all. At least. Las Vegas, Golden Nugget. I don't know about the Mississippi one or whatever, but yeah, but I appreciate overrated.
C
To me, I appreciate your candor. You're. You're still a Vegas local. What's your favorite spot to stay on the strip or downtown?
B
Hmm. Can I give an off strip off downtown property?
C
Oh, yes, please do.
B
Okay. There's a brand new resort casino that opened up on the southwest side of Las Vegas called the Durango. And it is beautiful. It is the only casino with windows, like with natural light that just lights up. The entire casino has an amazing sports book, an amazing lounge called Bel Air Lounge. The food hall is like state of the art. It's all local Las Vegas restaurants that are in the food hall. And yeah, there's other restaurants as well that are really good. There's a good steakhouse, a good Mexican place. So I highly recommend the Durango. But on Strip, the Cosmo is my favorite property. They just have amazing food. And I used to also work there, so I'm a little biased. And downtown, I think. Circa. Have you been to Circa yet, love?
C
Circa just recently went there. There's. So they have one of the best sports books and they have like a million TVs up on their pool deck and it's so fun to watch the game up there.
B
Yeah, yeah, it's gone viral several times. Like the pool and like all the TVs. And I think Circa Sportsbook is the largest sports book in the world, if I'm not mistaken, because it's like a three story sport or I mean, you can walk three different stories and the screens are just huge. I will say it is a little pricey. So if you do go downtown looking for value, Circa is not your place. But it is the nicest and probably safest place to say.
C
Totally. If you're looking for value, maybe El Cortez, which I think is underrated.
B
Yeah. Or Fremont. Like they, they've, like all the casinos have redone the inside and the rooms and stuff. So you can't really pick a bad place on Fremont Street. But it is a little less safe than the Strip.
C
That's true. But don't sleep. It's.
A
It's very.
C
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
B
Yes, yes. Vegas is just a weird place. Well, when are you coming to Vegas again?
C
I don't know. The last place I stayed was at the Cosmo. I'm usually loyal to Caesars, but I wanted to try something different. Actually, you guys, I think I'll be in Vegas at the end of the month, late October. I haven't picked a date yet, but I'm gonna go celebrate my birthday. So you guys, I'll. I'll let you know and maybe we can do like a little meetup or something. But I'm really excited. It's one of my favorite places in the world. Minty. I'm so happy that you're not jaded. It's so easy to get jaded in this world, it is.
B
But, like, you know, my life on social media is just. It's kind of just like. I don't want to say it's a facade, but that's what I want the public to see. I have so much going on, you know, out in my personal life that I just, like, love, and it just makes me happy. And I. I go on a lot of side quests. Like, I take ice skating lessons, and I've taught myself how to skateboard and play guitar. That's sitting collecting dust in the corner over there. I like to do a lot of things that, like, keep me busy and my mind busy and away from sports. So, yeah, not jaded. As long as you have a good balance, like work, life balance.
C
Yes. And we're past this now, but remember to take profits. Right? Take profits. You guys, I don't know what the rule of thumb for profit taking is, but some of my friends will take 50% of whatever they make and put it in their bank account, and then the other 50% stays in their bankroll and they try to slowly build it.
B
Yes, exactly. When you profit, it is good to just take some out and finally use it for good instead of just putting more on bets. Take yourself to a nice dinner or, I don't know, get a drink, whichever. But yeah, don't be afraid to gamble a little. Don't be afraid to save a little. It's just all about balance.
C
Yes, it's about balance. I love that you said that. Harmony Minty, where can we find you online?
A
Where can we.
C
Can we find your bets online? Can we follow your bets?
B
Absolutely. You can find me and my bets on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok. Minty bets, all one word with a T, not a D. Not Mindy.
C
Mindy.
B
Yeah, I post literally at least three times a week my bets. And if you're looking for UFC bets, I'm also sometimes on the UFC broadcast between the fights. Literally, like, giving out my picks in between the fights. So check me out on all platforms.
C
That is so cool. And what I love about you is that you reimburse people's losses if they follow you and they lose. Just kidding. Your face. Minty's face.
B
Like, where are we going here?
C
I'm just kidding.
B
I'll give him your number.
C
No. This has been so informative and fun. I want to keep chatting, but also don't want to keep you because it's Saturday. We got college football Sunday, Funday tomorrow. Any good resources off the top of your head for people that are budding Sports bettors, online resources. Aside from yourself, any books or anything you could mention?
B
Yeah, I'm sure there are a lot of books, but I don't really read. But Action Network is probably the best place. Action Network and Odds Sharks are the two places that I learned about, like sports betting. One on one, they'll have all the resources. Betting calculators, trends, stats, articles. I love reading articles. So Odds Sharks and Action Network are the two places. And they're all free, too. I mean, you can pay for certain things, but they're all free resources. So if you want to sports betting, definitely check out those two websites.
C
Yes. Thank you, Minty. Thank you. This has been so fun. I could talk to you for hours. I have a million questions, but thank you for doing this. And you guys, no gamble, no glory, but do it responsibly. There are pitfalls. There are real addictions. You know, gamble responsibly, but yeah. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
B
Yeah. And now is the time to get into sports betting because we have all the sports. College football, college basketball, starting up, NFL hockey, starting up, basketball starting up soon. Yeah. Lots going on. World Series is also very soon. This is the time. Sportstober.
C
All right. Thank you, Minty. I appreciate you. Hope you have a good day. And may the Schwartz be with you.
B
May the Schwartz be with you. Thank you guys. And good luck on your journey. If you decide to start the sports band.

Tom opens with reflections on the highs and lows of sports betting, acknowledging its addictive dangers but also its community and entertainment value.
Quote:
"For every one of those that hits, there's a million that don't. But they are fun... Just makes the game a little more exciting." — Tom (01:37)
The host emphasizes moderation:
"Not to over romanticize sports betting...I've seen it wreak havoc on people's lives. It can get dark. But for the most part, I like gambling. I think it's fun in moderation." — Tom (02:12)
Minty shares her unusual path, having grown up in Vegas and pivoting from floral design to betting for extra cash at 21. Notable Moment:
"I started a Twitter...posting betting pics...posted a video of myself giving pics and it blew up. I landed a job...now I'm with FanDuel and UFC giving out my betting picks." — Minty (08:16)
The challenges of being a woman in a “male-dominated industry” and early skepticism she faced:
"When I told men, they'd be like, they'd start to quiz me...It was more of an embarrassing thing to say, but it was like, I'm going to be cautious of who I tell it to until I succeed." — Minty (10:05)
Both agree: Stick with logic and discipline.
"Never bet with your heart? Yes. Correct. Bet with your head. And if you can't find anything good, then just lay off." — Minty (06:52)
Tom admits to emotional betting and relates the pain of betting on his alma mater, Florida State.
"It just so much more fun to watch at home or when you attend a game." — Minty (13:27) "Not just fun—also camaraderie and community." — Tom (13:02)
“People really, like, doubt, like, you know, the picks that I give out.” — Minty (13:55) “It can be a profession if you pursue it wisely and you treat it like a job.” — Tom (14:43)
"If you see the minus, the team's a favorite...if you see a plus, they're the underdog." — Tom & Minty (26:49–27:05)
"That little half point...has cost me so many bets and so much heartbreak." — Tom (29:06)
"If you don't love it, you are absolutely welcome to buy points just so you get, you know, a more comfortable number, but you don't have to." — Minty (29:25)
"Straight bets are the way to go. They're just less fun." — Minty (30:38) "Parlays...if one bet on that ticket loses, you lose the entire thing. That's the heartbreak." — Minty (31:13) "Don't do what I do. Straight bets are the way to go, right Minty?" — Tom (30:29)
Setting a separate betting account; standard bet ("unit") should be 1–5% of bankroll.
"The most you should ever bet is 5% of your bankroll. That should be the max." — Minty (33:42)
Importance of tracking bets:
"It definitely targets your weaknesses and your strengths and maybe where you could risk less units or more next time." — Minty (40:56)
Don't chase losses:
"Never chase your losses...Literally, just bet on games you feel good about because that's how your bankroll will decrease and that's how you fall into a pit of despair and depression." — Minty (37:41)
Don't bet with emotion:
"Impulse bets out of frustration...trying to make your money back. Overconfidence, superstition, or just loyalty to your favorite team." — Tom (39:48)
Taking breaks is healthy.
"I stayed away from social media. I didn't watch any games. I just gave myself a detox, a reset of sorts." — Minty (42:34)
Coping with negativity online and the dangers of being "doxed" (44:00):
"People ultimately make their own decisions with their own money and want to find someone to blame when they lose their money." — Minty (43:51) "Don't bet more than you can afford to lose." — Tom (44:37)
Minty still gets a rush from betting and makes time for passions and hobbies outside of sports betting.
"As long as you have a good balance, like work, life balance." — Minty (55:44)
Take profits:
"Take yourself to a nice dinner or...get a drink. Don't be afraid to gamble a little. Don't be afraid to save a little. It's just all about balance." — Minty (56:34)
"There's a lot of parallels with reality tv, right? You have great storylines. You have rivalries, underdogs...We love the heartbreaks, the plot twists, the rivalries, upsets, everything." — Tom (18:56)
"My advice is go to the kiosk so you have a lot of time." — Minty (48:30)
"Those are the two sure fire, like, most popular bets you can make in Vegas." — Minty (49:11)
Minty keeps her bets secret, avoids bad-mouthing the teams she bets against, and doesn’t re-bet on a team two weeks in a row.
"I do not mention my bets at all because I think it's superstitious." — Minty (49:48)
Tom must leave the room when the game is on the line:
"If it comes down to a critical play...I have to turn the TV off or walk away." — Tom (50:52)
"Durango...beautiful. The Cosmo is my favorite property...And downtown, I think Circa." — Minty (53:34)
"Money won is twice as sweet as money earned, but there's a lot of pain that goes into that, too." — Tom (06:28)
"Gambling is a gamble. And like, I had to quit my job and do this full time...there's no security in sports betting." — Minty (09:26)
"Don't bet more than you can afford to lose. If hitting your Sunday parlay is your only hope to pay rent or get groceries that week, then you're going to go down a very dark path." — Tom (44:37)
"My favorite personal bet, guys, is no runs first inning. Major League Baseball. That's all they have to do is not score in the first inning and you win." — Tom (46:40)
"Never bet with your heart. Yes. Correct. Bet with your head. And if you can't find anything good, then just lay off." — Minty (06:52)
This episode offered a nuanced, humor-infused, and practical look at sports betting—the fun, the heartbreak, the discipline needed, and the camaraderie. Both Tom and Minty model smart, responsible betting habits and invite listeners to enjoy the game, but always "bet with your head, not your heart." As Tom puts it:
"No gamble, no glory, but do it responsibly." (58:32)
May the Schwartz be with you!
