There's some incredible TV coming out of the UK right now. Brits just do it differently. The accents, the wit, the scenery, the devastating one liners disguised as compliments. It's all streaming on Britbox. They have the best mysteries, dramas, comedies, and seriously addicting originals like Outrageous, based on the true story of the Mitford sisters. They were kind of like the Kardashians of the 1930s. Wealthy, audacious, chaotic, wildly opinionated, and always making headlines. And chances are you've never heard their story. It's stunning, it's jaw dropping, it's very British. So check out Outrageous. It could be your next favorite. Don't miss Outrageous. Streaming now only on Britbox.

Tom Sandoval
Guys, I'm at LAX. 6:10am on a Friday. We're going on tour. Get the up, let's go. Okay. Sorry, it's a little aggressive. I know it's Tuesday for you guys. How you doing? What's happening? Yeah, I'm having a cold Coors Light a morning brew at 6:10am but it's okay. Why? Airport rules. Yes, this is a safe place to sip suds while the sun rises without judgment. But listen, we're gonna do a whole episode on airport culture. One of my favorite places to just cozy up and have a cold one. But yeah, I'm at lax. It's a foggy morning, tranquil. Maybe the haze is sort of obscuring what lies ahead. But I'm very present chilling here. I got my avocado toast, my cold beer, Detox, Retox, Diet Coke to chase it all down my plate. Departs in, let's see, 30 minutes. Yeah, we're going on tour, baby. Next stop, Chi Town, the Windy city. First stop, St. Charles. I've never been there. Then we're off to the Great Lake State. Yes. Michigan. I see you. I'm about to be in you. Wait, I don't like the way that sounded. We're going to Wild Wine Dote. I don't know if I'm pronouncing that right, guys. Then we're off to a little village called Paw Paw. Pawpaw, Michigan. Apparently, it's named after the pawpaw fruit, which is native to Michigan. Hell yeah. Spectacular. Give me 14 of them. But I'm tagging along with Mr. Tom Sandoval and the most extras for a little Midwest side quest. We're going. We're gonna go on tour, guys. We're saying yes to the great unknown. Yeah. It's. It's all happening. It is all happening. So I need you guys to tell the Rolling Stones that my last words are, I'm on drugs. Okay? I got shy. I'm recording this in public right now. Almost Famous. You remember that quote? Great movie, but, yeah, I'm Les. Penny. Penny Lane. More William. I kind of feel like I'm journal in journalist mode right now, so. Yeah. But why am I going? I feel a little awkward because I'm just sort of existing. But I'm gonna jam out. I'm gonna have fun. I'm gonna dance like no one's watching, but it's sort of an appearance. But I. Part of me feels like I should at least learn an instrument. I don't know, the cowbell, the tambourine. I could be Mr. Tambourine Man. But I want to know what it's like to be on tour. All of it. The good, the bad, the ugly, the ups, the downs, the hotel rooms, the weird smells, hangovers, hookups. Going on tour with a band just kind of sounds awesome. I mean, at least on the surface, right? Sex, drugs, rock and roll, glitz and glam as.
Tom Schwartz
All right.
Tom Sandoval
Or maybe I got carried away there. It's not the 80s anymore, but it's pretty. Pretty tame, to be honest. But, man, I don't know. I don't know. At least for me, all that glitters is not gold. That is to say, I've been on the road a lot lately. And, yeah, at one point, I thought it would be cool as hell to be in a band, but I've been. Yeah, trains, planes and automobiles lately for the past few months, and I have a whole newfound respect for people who are on the road continually. How do you maintain balance? How do you not stop yourself from eating? Like, okay, discipline, but, like, it's hard not to be sitting at the bar 6:30am chasing down an overpriced bag of Cool Ranch Doritos with a Bloody Mary while you're chilling in the airport. Sleep schedule in shambles, insomnia. Missing your family, your pets, Gordo and Butters. My babies. I miss my bed. The scent of your significant other when you wake up. I don't know. Don't get me wrong here, okay? Do not get it twisted. I love traveling. It's romantic. It changes you. It's probably one of my top three favorite things in life. But just being on the road A lot, man. It wears your body down. I'm hearing Lisa's voice in my head right now. Don't be a wussy pussy, darling. I know I haven't been traveling that much, but it's been enough to make me appreciate people who go on world tours. The relentless grind, constant hopping around empty hotel rooms. Where am I? Who am I? Chaotic schedules. I could see. I could see how it could wear you down, especially if you're dealing with some, you know, of your own demons or mental health issues. Yeah, man, you can end up broken without even knowing it. So, yeah, man. Thomas and Eval in the most extras. You guys are coming with. You're coming with me. Okay. I gotta give him his band credit because in a time not long ago, and I'm not gonna directly quote the New York Times article, well, let's just say Sandoval wasn't necessarily America's sweetheart, but his band, they kept on keeping on. They kept playing. They persevered to some of the strangest, darkest, bleakest times. Man, it was gnarly, Okay? I was there. I survived. But it was gnarly, man. Just got him. Some might say that, yeah, him continuing to play was tone deaf. Or he was an egomaniac, a rock star in his own mind. But regardless what you think, they kept playing. Gotta give him credit, right? That's courage under fire. But we're not. We're not reliving that. You guys. No sad songs on this tour. No. Also, Tom's band is on America's Got Talent this week. Yeah, Tom Sandoval and the most extras. Insane as that sounds, I'm talking agt. Yeah, that agt. Simon Cowell, Mel B. Sovi, Vergara, Howie Mandel. I may or may not have been in attendance with my brother and Victoria, but it was. I don't know, it was a trip because Tom's already pretty famous, right? Usually it's like up and coming talent looking to be discovered. Tom's pretty famous already. Don't tell him I said that, by the way. But yeah, it was a trip. We'll get into that. I'm about to board in a second. But finally. All right, I got to go. I got to get the check. But finally, I. I thought it would be kind of therapeutic. I don't want to get sappy on you guys here, but, I mean, I'm getting paid and everything, but that's not really why I said yes. I thought maybe this would be a good time to finally let go of any deeply recessed resentment. Cavities you know, any sort of frustration sleeping deep in my subconscious. Just in regards to the bar, Schwartz and Sandy's. Once upon a time. I mean, there was a moment where I felt like he prioritized the band over the bar when I needed him the most. But listen, that's. That's water under the bridge now, right? You cannot step in the same river twice. When you forgive, you heal. When you let go, you grow, or something like that. How does that saying go? I don't know. Listen, I let go many months ago, but maybe this is for me. Maybe this is my final act of letting go. Going on this little mini Midwest tour. Mother Mary came to me, speaking words, the wisdom. You know what she said? She said, let it be. Okay. All right. Last sip of beer. Last sip of beer. Do you hear that? I got it. Bored a second. But yeah, we're going on tour. I don't see Tom that much anymore, so it's. And it's not like a point to deliberate thing. It's just logistics, growing older, you know, it happens. So I thought it'd be a great time to reconnect with him and the Midwest. Also, the most extras. He's got a awesome band. I don't know if you guys have seen them, but, man, their. Their energy, it's contagious. It's infectious. They're so fun to see. They play great covers and, man, we're doing the damn thing. What do you want to call it? I guess we're getting the band back together. It's like a little mini reunion tour of sorts, but.
Jason
All right.
Tom Sandoval
All right. I'm gonna shut up now. People are staring at me.
Tom Schwartz
I.
Tom Sandoval
Not that I care. Love you guys. Are you all packed? Okay, let's go. I just arrived in St. Charles. We're in Chicago, you guys. Can you tell me why you're coming to the show tonight? For the Toms, baby. The Toms. I just got the warmest welcome of my entire life. Maybe an ass grab. Wait, where are we? Where are we? You are in St. Charles, Illinois. What do I need to know about St. Charles? I don't even know much about St. Charles. I'm from Lake County, Illinois. Yes, me too. Lake County, Spring Grove, Illinois. Yep. Why you guys coming? To see Tom Sandoval in the most extras. Hey, I've already seen him. And they put on a hell of a show. And we just love you and love Sandoval. That is true. That is true for you. I love you guys. Let's go. All right, I'll see you in the show. All right, go. Make sure you rock on, Sando. Exactly. Just. I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready. Good times. And smoke a fatty if you got it.
Tom Schwartz
Exactly.
Tom Sandoval
Guys. Hey, we're at District 142, Wyandotte, Michigan.
Tom Schwartz
You hear that?
Tom Sandoval
That sound check? Man, I gotta say, there's something special if you've never been to the Midwest during the summer. I don't know, man, it just. It sneaks up on you. Like, I don't know, June sort of whispers its way in. You half expect to see lightning bugs. How many of you have never seen a lightning bug? It is magical. People running through their sprinklers on the front lawn. The grass is literally greener here. In the summer. It's so gorgeous. Listen. Golden hour. You hear that? It's so sweet here. You'd bottle it if you could. But yeah, man, it's like. I don't know. Summer's like a reward here. You fight through the. The months of bleak, dreary grayness. I don't know if you've never been to the Midwest. The winters can be so cold that you feel it in your soul, in your bones. Yeah, but. Yeah, man, summer's just. It's got a special feeling in the air. You savor it. You savor it because you know, every day special. And it won't last forever. Pretty soon it's gonna be cold again. But for now, it's 90 degrees. We are in again. Wyandotte, Michigan. It's a whole ass vibe, you guys. I'm having such a good time. I wish you guys are here with me. You kind of are if you're listening to this. Yeah, I don't know. It's so fun. We go on in about three hours. I think there's 800 people coming tonight. Something special in the air. I don't know. Something special in the air. It sounded end this summer. It's on an end this summer. But right now it feels that way. It's precious, brief, fleeting. You got to embrace. Embrace the impermanence. Yeah, man. All right. I'm going to shut up. This is the last time I blab. From here on out, it's going to be everybody else and their experiences touring. The good, the bad, the ugly. Gonna pick up in a second. All right. All right, guys. We are live westbound to PAWPAW, MI, the third and final leg of the tour. I'm here live with Mr. Tom Sandoval. What's up?
Tom Schwartz
Shorts?
Tom Sandoval
No, Most extras though.
Tom Schwartz
Already there.
Tom Sandoval
Tom's probably Gonna miss sound check. So we're doing it right now.
Tom Schwartz
No, no, it's fine. You're good? Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
How you feeling?
Tom Schwartz
I'm feeling good, man. Third show in a row. Just find my ears. Like, the most important thing with soundcheck is getting your ears dialed in. And my ears are. Were dialed in last night, so everything is just saved from yesterday. It's all like on a system.
Tom Sandoval
It was such a good show last night, dude.
Tom Schwartz
Thanks, man.
Tom Sandoval
I mean, really, the moral of this interview, I think I've already answered the question I was gonna end with, which is like, how do you. How do you muster the energy, the mojo to do this? It just takes so much energy. The logistics. It's a nine piece band, right?
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
And just watch. I was on stage for 15 minutes and I'm exhausted. I just want to take a nap. I mean, you do 20 songs a night, three shows in a row.
Tom Schwartz
We did 21 last 21.
Tom Sandoval
My God. Like, but, but like, to answer the question I was gonna ask you, I think I get it. Just because there's such like a pure outpouring of love.
Tom Schwartz
Yes.
Tom Sandoval
That. And it's. It's reciprocal too. It's not like you feeding your ego up there.
Tom Schwartz
No.
Tom Sandoval
As people might think, looking at the Internet, it's awesome. No, you are vibing out with the band. Like, there's a lot of love.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah. There's this. That's the thing I love about doing this is we're all like creating together. We're all expressing ourselves together, and we're also creating like a really fun time. Like, it's a. It's a fun party environment. Like, I remember growing up, like, I would go see my, my Uncle Tom, like, and his band Transit. They would like, play at different places, you know, all through, like St. Louis. You would go to Indian Springs, like, and I loved it. I loved. Like, they were in a. They were in a cover band. They just pretty much played like whatever kind of like what we do. And I remember they would play like, Dada. Like, I'm going to. I'm going to Disneyland. Do you remember that song?
Tom Sandoval
No. Can you give us a little. It's like Little Diddy.
Tom Schwartz
I just slipped off President George. I'm going to Disneyland. It's like. You don't remember that song? Oh, my God. We got to hit. We got to. We got to put it on there.
Tom Sandoval
Then Tom, can we hit him? Hit him with a quick bum. But it. We're slowly driving. Victoria. Victoria's in the backseat on the verge of murdering us. Both. No, but seriously, man. You guys, it's like, I think. By the way, you guys, this is airing Tuesday. Tom is on America's Got Talent tonight.
Tom Schwartz
Yes.
Tom Sandoval
And I was there in attendance, and I think. I think it was Mel B. Who said it best, because as the judges were sort of talking, like, you know, talking about your performance, I think she said it best. She was like, you guys are having so much fun up there. I'm having fun because you're having fun.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
It's contagious.
Tom Schwartz
Thanks.
Tom Sandoval
Infectious. In the best possible way. Yeah.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah. We always do. We always have so much fun. And that's the thing. Like, that's why I love, like, being in a cover band. Like, nobody's got to come out and, like, be into, like, my stuff. They can, like, be into, like, the songs that they've grown up listening to, like, instant or, like, classics.
Tom Sandoval
There's nothing to not like about it. I say this in the most respectful way, but it kind of. I feel like I'm at a wedding when I'm watching your band.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
In the best possible way.
Tom Schwartz
Hell, yeah.
Tom Sandoval
That's how it feels. Everyone's having drinks, jamming out. The vibes are immaculate. Shout out to Wine Dot. No, Wine Dot. Wine Dot. Yeah. Such good.
Tom Schwartz
Mind that.
Tom Sandoval
Incredible.
Tom Schwartz
Great crowd.
Tom Sandoval
Oh, my God. 10 out of 10 crowd.
Tom Schwartz
I think we've been there three, four times.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah. First stop was in St. Charles.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
One dot. And now. Yeah.
Tom Schwartz
We're westbound to Pawpaw.
Tom Sandoval
To Pawpaw. What? You know about Paw Paw? But no, can you. Can you. How the. How the. Did AGT come together? America's Got Talent. So.
Tom Schwartz
I think Jason reached out to them, like, a year ago or they had reached out to Jason, one or the other. And it wasn't something that I necessarily wanted to do, to be honest.
Tom Sandoval
Like, well, usually it's up and coming people looking to get discovered, and you're, like, pretty fucking famous. I mean, you're well known. Your band is, too. I mean.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, I, I get it. I mean, I, I honestly didn't really want to do it, but I knew that, like, my band, who has been there for me, like, through, like, some. Some of the hardest times of my life and have just been. It's always been like, a beacon of, like, positivity. Yeah. And happiness with me, like, when I've been lost, you know? Oh. So I, I just knew that they really. I, I. I felt like they really wanted to do it, and if I went back to my band and I was like, oh, like, I don't want to do it? I'm not sure. Like.
Tom Sandoval
I'm glad you said.
Tom Schwartz
They would have been like, oh, okay. You know what I mean? Because it's such a huge platform. It's such amazing, like, exposure, and, you know, I want to. I want to give them that. You know what I mean?
Tom Sandoval
Totally. I. That's what I figured. You kind of did it for the band.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah. And. And. And I'm glad you did, because it's such a unique experience. How many people get to go on America's Got Talent?
Tom Schwartz
No, it is. It's crazy. It is. So I was. We were all so nervous, and I was.
Tom Sandoval
Well, I was. I was. I was nervous for you. I was also living vicariously through my brother because he just moved here, and he loves that show, so the fact that he was, like, 15ft away from Simon Cowell, he was so stoked. I was just right there with him. Living vicariously, man. But it was awesome.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, man.
Tom Sandoval
How do you feel about your performance?
Tom Schwartz
I. I feel. I feel good about it, you know? I mean, it's.
Tom Sandoval
You didn't get the. You didn't get the rest. You wanted to, but other than that, I mean, it was pretty fun and funky.
Tom Schwartz
Thanks, man.
Tom Sandoval
I forgot what song you perform. Take on me. Right?
Tom Schwartz
Take On Me.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah. It's a hard song to sing.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
Is Victoria awake?
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, she's awake.
Tom Sandoval
Hi, Victoria. Oh, you guys were literally in the car. Just to prove it. Here, check this out. Okay. That was reckless. I'm driving. This is probably not that safe, honestly, but shout out to Victoria. But, yeah, man, it was so fun. I had such a good time. I'm just. I'm on the third leg of the tour with you here. I'm exhausted. I could never do this, like, as much fun as I'm having. I'm glad this is the last day.
Tom Schwartz
Oh, no. I mean, dude, I've done five shows in a row before.
Tom Sandoval
That's insane.
Tom Schwartz
I've done, like, five shows in a row.
Tom Sandoval
Twenty. That's a hundred songs.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
Back to. Back to back.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah. And at that point, I think we were doing, like, 24 songs.
Tom Sandoval
Oh, my God. What's your favorite song to perform?
Tom Schwartz
Oh, that's so hard to say, because I. It kind of rotates. You know what I mean? Sometimes it's just. To me, my favorite song to perform is the one that's hitting that night that the people are connecting the most to, because then that feeds me, and we're just like. I feel like we're riffing. You know what I Mean, totally. But I love all of them. I mean, we do everything. We've done so many different songs. I don't know if you were there when we did the Bravery, Honest Mistake or Death Cab for Cutie. I will possess your heart or Cake by the Ocean. We also did Billy Ocean. Two Billy Ocean songs. Remember the Deep. The Deep. Cut one.
Tom Sandoval
That's your go to karaoke song, dude, it's.
Tom Schwartz
It's been a while.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah, man. It's a great set list. You have. You have two original songs, right? Yeah, two originals.
Tom Schwartz
We don't. We're just doing one right now.
Tom Sandoval
Just one right now?
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, man.
Tom Sandoval
Have you noticed, I don't know, I haven't been to all of your shows, but have you noticed a difference in the crowds? Pre and Post Traders?
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, maybe a little bit.
Tom Sandoval
They're. I mean, they're always pretty positive.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
Contrary to what people might think. I mean, like, like back.
Tom Schwartz
Oh, no, it's always. It's always been really positive. Even when, you know, even when I was going through whatever. Like, it was very. It's always been very positive because it's such a positive, like, experience.
Tom Sandoval
Has anyone ever thrown a tomato at you?
Tom Schwartz
Nobody has ever thrown a fucking tomato at me.
Tom Sandoval
Sorry. Doesn't like that question. No, I'm kidding. But, dude, the shows are so good. Me and Tom do a little bit. We go on for like 30 minutes and it's kind of like a little VPR retrospective.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, we do. We do Q A and then we do, you know, we. We hand out some whiskey. We. If anybody's gonna. Birthday. Yeah, a little happy birthday on the trumpet.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah, no penis puppeteering, though.
Tom Schwartz
No, no. Penis puppeteer.
Tom Sandoval
That's an inside joke, guys, and it's not even funny. But yeah, man. Headed west.
Tom Schwartz
I know, man.
Tom Sandoval
I need a nap. We're going to be there in an hour and a half. And you go right on. Yeah, more or less. You got sound check?
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, we got sound check. Me and Tom, Michael and Cat. Yeah, those guys are great.
Tom Sandoval
They're so good.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, they've been. They've been on numerous tours with us.
Tom Sandoval
Can we give Jason some love?
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
As. As your tour manager, if I don't get to interview him. Jason is dear friend and Tom's tour manager and he handles all the logistics, all the bookings.
Tom Schwartz
Even adds this diva to my right. Even adds pictures to the. To the. To the tour schedule.
Tom Sandoval
Oh, he did that?
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
Oh, it's so good, you guys. I'll post it on my Instagram when I upload this episode. It's so good.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
But yeah, I just wanted to show Jason a little love.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
He's a father.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
He's a father of two.
Tom Schwartz
Yes.
Tom Sandoval
I mean like I. I miss my dogs.
Tom Schwartz
Miss your dogs.
Tom Sandoval
I could never do this just cuz I miss my dogs. I can't imagine what it's like to. To have children. You know what I mean?
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, man.
Tom Sandoval
Anyways.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, man. We.
Tom Sandoval
We doing the damn thing.
Tom Schwartz
We're doing. It's been. It's been. It's been.
Tom Sandoval
Is it always fun, Tom?
Tom Schwartz
Are.
Tom Sandoval
Are there times sometimes you're like, God, I cannot.
Tom Schwartz
Like. I have never not had fun on stage.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah.
Tom Schwartz
Even like. And in the worst case scenario, I've never not had fun.
Tom Sandoval
Yes. No matter what.
Tom Schwartz
Never not.
Tom Sandoval
No matter. No matter what's going on. It all melts away once you're on stage, right?
Tom Schwartz
It does. It does. Because everybody's there to have such a good time and like so am I. Yeah. So it's. You know, it. It just. It just all melts away, man.
Tom Sandoval
I know.
Tom Schwartz
I felt that we come, we. We become one with each other.
Tom Sandoval
I know. It's a beautiful thing. You guys, Tom's. Can we talk about the most extras for a second?
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
Your band's fucking awesome.
Tom Schwartz
Thanks, man. They are amazing. They're so cool.
Tom Sandoval
We go down the. Can we go down the list real quick? I feel like I wanted to interview everybody, but we're not gonna have time. We got. Who do we got?
Tom Schwartz
So we got McRae on trumpet.
Tom Sandoval
That's right.
Tom Schwartz
And when McCrae started, he was I think 20 years old. And then we got Colin, our musical director and also saxophone player.
Tom Sandoval
Yes.
Tom Schwartz
Guy plays pretty much any instrument ever. Then we have Mia, who is a bassist and also just an insane musician.
Tom Sandoval
She's so good.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, she like basically maps out all of our vocal harmonies and everything. Like just is so good.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah.
Tom Schwartz
Like mapped out 12 part harmony for somebody to love.
Tom Sandoval
She's a maestro.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
I was doing vocal warm ups with her yesterday.
Tom Schwartz
And then we have. Then we have Maddie Maddie.
Tom Sandoval
Shout out to Maddie Maddie.
Tom Schwartz
Great vocalist, really cool person. Very, very always. Maddie's always happy and. And just full energy. Yeah, I love it. Then we have Casper. Casper's always like, he's so cool. He's such. He's such a great guitar guitarist. He plays more rhythm but like vibey rhythm. It's like we have two league guitarists because you know, we have him. And then we have Kevin Trattasta, who we refer to as 24 7. Kevin, the man who never Stops shredding. Dude, last night, did you see him play with his teeth?
Tom Sandoval
Yeah, it's rock and roll.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah. Kevin is insane. Him and Casper, like, they harmonize guitars together. Like, it's really cool.
Tom Sandoval
You guys have good chemistry together. I like your little pre show ritual. What do you. You tap each other on the back and you say, we got.
Tom Schwartz
I got your back. Got your back.
Tom Sandoval
Got your back. Got your back. It's really cute.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
Do you guys have any. Do you have any superstitions or anything?
Tom Schwartz
Not really.
Tom Sandoval
Also, any other rituals?
Tom Schwartz
Like, also shout out to Maxburg Manus.
Tom Sandoval
Oh, yeah, my bad.
Tom Schwartz
Keyboard keyar player. He's so good. He always finds every effect and makes it like so amazing. Such a cool guy. Such great energy.
Tom Sandoval
I mean, it truly is an ensemble.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
You guys make magic together up there.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, it's.
Tom Sandoval
Wait, what was I going to say? I lost my train of thought.
Tom Schwartz
Oh, like our Jimmy rituals.
Tom Sandoval
I know you have like a beer or two, right? You don't drink too much?
Tom Schwartz
It depends.
Tom Sandoval
It depends.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, I. I've done a lot of shows sober, actually. A lot of shows. Which is really cool and empowering because, you know, when I first started the band, I would definitely have a few drinks before I went on every show. And then I stopped drinking for like eight, nine months and did shows completely sober.
Tom Sandoval
It's impressive.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
Because I would need to. I would need to tie off maybe just at least a couple beers just to get the jitters out of the system.
Tom Schwartz
Well, it's. It's kind of nice actually doing shows sober because you feel a little bit more locked in to everything. You know what I mean? You feel just more in tuned, like with yourself and your body.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah.
Tom Schwartz
But then there's, you know, when you have a couple drinks, it like kind of just sort of numbs you a little bit.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah. Maybe takes a little of the edge off, but either way, they're both really. It's. It's nice.
Tom Sandoval
You have to be disciplined. You have to take care of your voice.
Tom Schwartz
Yes.
Tom Sandoval
So you can't drink too much.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
You work out usually when you're on tour.
Tom Schwartz
Yep.
Tom Sandoval
Eat healthy. Ish. I've absolutely destroyed my body for the past three days.
Tom Schwartz
Well, the biggest thing is when you go. When you go on tour, the best thing to do is get yourself in really good shape beforehand and then you can. Then you can kind of slack off a little bit as you're like, on tour.
Tom Sandoval
Heavy on the. The Detox before tour, and then dabble in the Retox.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
While you're touring.
Tom Schwartz
Yes, that's right.
Tom Sandoval
But like, you. It's. You're like an athlete up there. 21 songs. I'm sweating just watching you.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, it's. It's.
Tom Sandoval
You guys. I was on stage for 15 minutes and I was sweating.
Tom Schwartz
No, we were on there for like 30 minutes.
Tom Sandoval
Okay.
Tom Schwartz
Give yourself some credit. No, but don't sell yourself short.
Tom Sandoval
Okay. Thank you. No, but it's. Seriously, it's an athletic performance I'll never forget. I'm not a swifty, per se, but I went and saw Taylor Swift.
Tom Schwartz
She's out there for a long time.
Tom Sandoval
She performed straight for three hours and took no breaks. It was absolutely insane. She's a finely tuned athlete.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
Are you a swifty?
Tom Schwartz
I mean, of course I am. Isn't everybody?
Tom Sandoval
Yeah. What's the best song? Wildest Dreams.
Tom Schwartz
Wildest Dreams is great. I'm. I'm kind of a fan of style.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah, Solid.
Tom Schwartz
Solid.
Tom Sandoval
We're gonna play that when we finish this interview. Yeah, Listen, this is probably the first and last time I'll ever be on a tour with a band. And I just wanted to say, really, it's been pretty awesome. Really?
Tom Schwartz
Because people are asking for you to come to other shows.
Tom Sandoval
We'll talk. But I got. I just. I. This is. Yeah, man. It's a bucket list. I've never. I've always wondered what it's like to go on tour with a band and it's kind of rock and roll, dude. Trains and automobiles.
Tom Schwartz
It is, it is. And it's. It's a lot, but it's. It's always a fun adventure. Like, everywhere we go, all the different towns that we go in, they're all so cool. They have. They all have their own charm. Like St. Charles, that place had, like, has this cool bridge. We've been there three times. So, like, I've jogged across that bridge. Like, working out before a show. They have, like a horror store. They have, like a crazy candy store that, like, has every kind of candy you could ever think of, including pickled gummies.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah. They were disgusting, by the way.
Tom Sandoval
We were like, the venues are so cool and they have so much mystique and lore. Like Arcada in St. Charles. Shout out to the owner, Ron. But it has a. A really cool speakeasy in there, apparently. Al Capone.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah. Used to run open since 1926. Yeah, used to.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah. Brothel, right?
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, it was a brothel. So, like, where we are, where we hang out, like, the green rooms are all brothel rooms.
Tom Sandoval
You know that at the meet and greet two People told me it's like heavily haunted too.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah. I mean, last time I was there, one of the women that, like, runs, it took us to, like, different rooms. Rooms, and she, like, turned off all the, like, closed the doors, turned everything off and like, had us just like sit there and listen. I mean, I don't know. I.
Tom Sandoval
That's cool.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
That's so cool. No, but it's like one of my favorite parts so far. Being my first tour is just the. The deep connections you make with people from all over the world.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
I had so many great conversations last night, dude. I wasn't like that. Bless you, Victoria. There was one woman at our meet and greet and she had just undergone four harrowing surgeries and she barely survived. And she was in tears when she met us. She's so sweet.
Tom Schwartz
Moments like that, oh, it's so amazing.
Tom Sandoval
Those are deep, meaningful, rich connections.
Tom Schwartz
There was a girl that came to our show who couldn't come last time because she was in a wheelchair for over a year.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah.
Tom Schwartz
And she's like, I'm able to stand now and I'm coming to your show. This is the first time I've been out in well over a year.
Tom Sandoval
There's. And there's something. There's something magic so awesome about summer in the Midwest. We're both in the Midwest. People are, they're. They're just. There's like a buzz in the air, like a palpable gratitude. People are just happy in the summer because they usually used to freezing their balls off all year. So when it's the humidity, everything's green. The birds are chirping.
Tom Schwartz
Fresh cut lawn.
Tom Sandoval
Yes.
Tom Schwartz
You know what I mean? Like, man, it's so cool. The foliage, like, it really. This really makes me think of home. St. Louis.
Tom Sandoval
Gorgeous. I feel nostalgic.
Tom Schwartz
St. Charles. I, I actually, my. My parents, both. I think both my mom and my dad live in St. Charles and it's such a great area. Like. Yeah, my. My mom and stepdad have a lake house. Lake of the Ozarks. They're building a new one too. Like them and a couple other things. Families got together. They're building like a huge, like seven bedroom house.
Tom Sandoval
Very cool.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, you gotta go.
Tom Sandoval
I love the Midwest. It's nice getting back in touch with our roots. We're doing the damn thing.
Tom Schwartz
We are.
Tom Sandoval
We're doing the damn thing. Will you. I just. I just wanted to say what's up and check in.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, man.
Tom Sandoval
That's all. Yeah, that's all, brother.
Tom Schwartz
Dude, it's so much.
Tom Sandoval
I Mean, I'm gonna pick up at the show.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
If you guys will listen, I'm gonna pick up and give you guys a little taste of what it's like to be on stage.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Tom Sandoval
But, yeah, man, I'll let you go. I should probably get back to driving.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Tom Sandoval
I don't want to kill us. All right, brother. I appreciate you.
Tom Schwartz
All right, man.
Tom Sandoval
It's good.
Tom Schwartz
Love you, dude.
Tom Sandoval
It's good to have the band back together.
Tom Schwartz
Hell, yeah.
Tom Sandoval
All right, bye. All right, I'm backstage. Warner Vineyards, Paw Paw, Michigan. I'm with the man who makes everything happen, the man with the plan. Jason, the manager, say what's up to everybody.
Jason
What's up, everyone? Thanks, Schwartz, for having me on.
Tom Sandoval
He literally just got off the drums. You're killing it. You're crushing it. Without you, this whole operation might fall apart.
Jason
I keep trying to tell everybody that, but nobody's listening to me.
Tom Sandoval
You're kind of dad.
Jason
I feel like I'm Dad. And also mom, too. Band mom and dad.
Tom Sandoval
By the way, the. The flyer you made for everything, all the plans, the itinerary. It's beautiful.
Jason
Thank you. I did. I worked on those. Shout out to Canva. Great app for that. Yeah, I worked all day on that.
Tom Sandoval
And you're literally a dad now. Do you like. I know you love touring, but I know there's probably a part of you that you miss your babies, you miss Kimmy.
Jason
It's the hardest part. I miss Kimmy, my wife and my two kids. What I do is every show, at the beginning of the show, I FaceTime them for probably the first five or six songs. My kids are watching. And now my son, Jordan, he's like three, so he is able to watch. He loves drumming. He's going to be a drummer. He wants to be a drummer. And he is so into it, so he loves that. And I love it, too. I miss him so much.
Tom Sandoval
That's so beautiful. I was going to say, cuz, like, I. I've only been gone three days. I've never been on tour before, but I'm longing for my bed and my dogs. Wait, can I ask you just. It's kind of stock. Can I ask you what your favorite part of touring is?
Jason
My favorite part of touring is seeing the country. We've been so lucky to be all over the entire country. And I've been to some cities that I thought I'd never been to, would ever go to before, and some really. We do a lot of suburbs, and some of these suburbs are so incredibly beautiful and Amazing, amazing. People go to some small town shops and ice cream places and bars and hole in the wall places and it's amazing. This country's beautiful.
Tom Sandoval
It's kind of a dream come true. Honestly. I've, in my mind, I've romanticized the shadow out of it. But now that I'm traveling more often, I'm like, maybe it's not always that romantic.
Jason
It's a lot of. It's daunting. The travel is daunting. This one in particular was a little bit, maybe more daunting than it needed to be. But normally when we're on a tour bus, it's very, very schedulized. And we're on the bus, we wake up, we have time to do stuff. We don't have to worry about the driving. We're in sprinter buses this time. But yeah, I think you're killing it. By the way, on tour.
Tom Sandoval
You got no, I will not accept and no thank, no praise. You, you, it's all you guys. You guys. I'm a glorified fan girl. I'm a groupie. I'm Penny Lane.
Jason
I've heard from several sources that your spirit has been so high on the tour and with all, everybody in the touring group that they're really appreciating your high spirits.
Tom Sandoval
That's one of the nicest things anyone's ever said to me. I appreciate that, especially coming from you.
Jason
I appreciate it could get kind of high pressured and very tiring and, you know, people can get angry with each other. But having some, somebody on the tour who's so nice and upbeat and awesome is very important.
Tom Sandoval
Ideal drink before you, if you, if you are going to drink before a show. Ideal drink before you go on.
Jason
This is what I have with me on every single show. I fill up a large cup with lots of ice, quite a bit of whiskey and a Red Bull. But I also have a thing with me on ice. At least three beers and three waters.
Tom Sandoval
How do you detox? How do you decompress after a show?
Jason
After a show, my hands are usually pretty, are usually pretty gnarled up and stuff. So I like to actually put them in ice.
Tom Sandoval
Jason's a drummer, we've established that. Just so you guys know, he's also the manager. He's also the man. He's dad.
Jason
Dad. As I'm saying, daddy, I like to put them in ice, shake it off and maybe have another drink and change my shirt because I'm sweaty.
Tom Sandoval
So wait, so how do you, how do you detox? How do you in the morning. Do you meditate? Hate. Do you have any rituals? Are you. Wait, are you superstitious before shows?
Jason
I am a little superstitious. I like will wear the same shoes. I'll. I'm very. I need my sticks in a certain way. Am I this or that on the stage? Everything on my area has to be the exact same thing.
Tom Sandoval
Yes.
Jason
Yeah. Exact same way.
Tom Sandoval
When, when like it's kind of a high, right? Like at the end of it, do you, do you kind of come down from that high A little bit. Do you get like sad A little bit?
Jason
I do a little bit. You know, it's a good show. We play a 90 minute show. You know, it's a good show when it goes by like in a second and then you don't want to get off. But I. It's funny. I'm working all day before the show, then I drum and then I work all after. So usually when we're ending a show, I'm thinking about all the work I have to do after. That's not drumming.
Tom Sandoval
He's a machine. We only have one mic right now.
Jason
By the back the dad had back on.
Tom Sandoval
So you're a machine. Without you I feel like it would all fall apart far.
Jason
I'd have to agree with you. I'm not gonna be humble. It would.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah.
Jason
No, there's a lot of people, hard working people in the band and Tom works really hard. The band works incredibly hard. Our buddy Colin, who's our musical director and our saxophone player, works very hard. Everybody works hard. I mean really, it is such a group effort.
Tom Sandoval
Also you guys. This is airing Tuesday agt, America's Got Talent. I don't know if we can spoil it, but you guys did the damn thing. I was there with, with Victoria and my brother. How. How'd you feel coming off that? That was insane.
Jason
That was unbelievable. It was. That was probably our scariest performance. I don't get nervous before shows ever, but that would. I was so scared. I was so scared.
Tom Sandoval
Sorry. We only have one mic. I was scared for you. I've never seen you sweat like I, you, you guys, you guys on stage. You have a great mojo. You have like, you have a moxy on stage. I liked it. It's. Is it almost like an alter ego?
Jason
Not really. I feel like maybe for Tom a little bit. Maybe some of the other folks in the band they really like. I think like some of the people in the band like were a little bit shy before this, but now they like 24 7. Kevin. Kevin, our amazing guitar player. When he. He wears sunglasses, when he plays, he becomes 24, 7, Kevin. And he literally becomes this guy who's. He plays guitar with his teeth. And he's out there. He's ripping. He's going nuts. Same with Kevin. I mean, Max Extra. Excuse me, our keyboard player. I mean. Yeah, it's amazing. We really are. It's awesome.
Tom Sandoval
Yeah, it's a great. I've found for artists in general, it. Being on stage is a great outlet for extroverted introverts or vice versa. You know, usually timid, quiet people, they get on stage and they just let that soul flow.
Jason
Yeah, 100%. I'm a little bit back. I'm back a little bit than everybody behind everyone. I'm so. I'm on a platform sometimes on a riser, but that's cool. I like it. I like to see everybody performing in front of me and the audience and stuff. So I've had a great grantage point. You should come on the riser and just see what I see every night.
Tom Sandoval
I get shy. I get shy.
Jason
You should. At least for one of the songs.
Tom Sandoval
I get shy.
Jason
I get shy too, a little bit.
Tom Sandoval
Can I ask you what your favorite song to perform is? Tom said it depends on the crowd. He feeds off the crowd or he wants to, like, reciprocate their energy.
Jason
Yeah, I think I got a couple. I love Separate Ways by Journey. It's so a rocker and I. I really rock pretty hard on that. Now. Take On Me is particularly. I rock pretty hard and I have like, not a really a solo, but a little featured part for me. Take On Me has become. Has always been my. One of my favorites, but now with it being on agt, I think people are really, like, loving it when we play it. And then also what song? I always forget the name of the song, but we play that and that one is just time to pretend I love that one. Yeah, it's.
Tom Sandoval
People go crazy for them.
Jason
Yeah, I think I. I like the songs that are super, super high energy, where I could feel the crowd just losing it and having the best time ever.
Tom Sandoval
I want to keep talking to you because I love this, but I'm about to go on in five minutes, so I'm probably going to shut up.
Jason
I really came in the room to pull you onto stage, literally.
Tom Sandoval
You guys, I'm about to go on stage with my. My sticky little bit.
Jason
And then, by the way, lastly, people are loving Tom and Tom's part. It's such an amazing addition to this greater show that we're doing in the Tour. I hope you'll do more with us because it really is so great.
Tom Sandoval
It was a time when I would have totally understood if the band just sort of, you know, dissipated or fell apart. And I'm so happy that it didn't because it's awesome. And. And this is my first tour. It's been awesome. Thank you in big part to you.
Jason
I appreciate you so much, Tom, and I hope you come do more with us. And I love you, buddy.
Tom Sandoval
You love you, buddy. Kimmy, if you hear this, we love you too. We miss you.
Jason
I love you, Kimmy, but see you soon.
Tom Sandoval
Say hi to the babies.
Jason
Hi, Jordan. Hi, Sadie. Hey, isn't it past your bedtime? Go to bed.
Tom Sandoval
He's dead now. Alright. Love you guys. Hey, guys. So I think I'll end this episode the same way I started it. With a cold beer. Chicago, O' Hare, planes, trains and automobiles westbound back to LA. Yeah. Tinseltown, 72 suburbs and surge of a city. Yeah. With a whole new respect for what it takes to be on tour with a band. An actual insane amount of energy, synergy. So much positivity, man. It was fun. I'm glad I said yes. Even though I drank a little too much whiskey, slept like shit, ate questionably, it still felt like a detox, you know, just being on the road, meeting new people, trying new things, reconnecting with Sando. I'm glad I said yes to this little mini tour, right? Man, I felt like it was a nice little digital detox too. The best parts of life are lived offline. You guys know this. Don't let online consume you, okay? Don't get it twisted. I love YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, all that shit. But being chronically online, man, if it's affecting your mental health, causing you to lose perspective, gratitude, get your ass outside, smell a rose, touch grass, Maybe take a little road trip, Maybe just a day trip, I don't know. I'm happy to be going home to my. My little paradise. But travel makes it hard to be jaded, you know, scrolling the day away. Doom scrolling. Listen, I'm still averaging 10 hours, 7, 8 hours a day on my screen. I'm not proud of that. We all do it, but man, it just makes it easy to become jaded. That is not what life's about. Not getting too deep here or anything. Just get outside, touch some grass, feel the rain on your skin. No one else can feel it for you. It was really fun to have some levity with my old buddy Sandoval. We laughed a lot, met so many amazing people, truly beautiful souls out there. But yeah, all right. I'm not gonna make this too long, but choose Life. Go to St. Charles. Go to Wyandotte, Michigan. Paw Paw. Okay, maybe watch America's Got Talent tonight. Tom Sandoval and the most extras. Thank you, Jason. Papa Jason. Putting everything together. You guys come see me in Austin and Dallas next weekend. How about that? We'll pick up where we left off right here. We can dance if we want to. You can leave your friends behind yourself. Looking for a new job or change in career? Monster.com is here to help.
