What is up?
Hi, how are you? How you doing there? Happy Wednesday. Fresh off the 4th of July. Happy 250th birthday, America. I see you today on the show Bryce Sander. If you don't know who that is, you probably recognize him. He's an entertainment journalist and on camera correspondent for et, where he is kind of become one of the leading voices covering reality tv, pop culture, Bravo, all that good stuff. Maybe he's a little bit of a pop culture vulture. No, he's a pop culture cockatiel. He's a beautiful soul and just lovely to be around. I always loved sitting down and chatting with him. Yeah, man. And he's very good at what he does. I wanted to take you guys to the studio. Yes. On set of et. Maybe step into his office and just check in. See what it's like being a television host and correspondent. See what it's like to be fulfilling a dream. Maybe ask him.
But you know, we already know to be true.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Does it need to bleed to lead spoiler alert.
Tom Schwartz
Pretty much. But yeah. A good little interview today, by the way. Canada.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
I love you, Kelowna Kamloops.
Tom Schwartz
I miss you. I got to spend Canada Day.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
It's like their Independence Day, July 1st.
Tom Schwartz
It was awesome. Shout out to Landon and Larissa.
Thank you for the wedding invitation.
Thank you for offering to let me officiate your wedding. Although I think you'd be much better off with Lisa Vanderpump. But it's such an honor. I had so much fun with you guys. Special shout out to everyone who showed up at the Canadian brew house, Kloops and Kelowna. My God. Colona.
American Express Announcer
Whoo.
Tom Schwartz
Kelowna feels like a beautiful, joyous, heavenly place to live. It's got, like, beautiful, unique landscapes, mountains, forests, lakes, freaking beach front vineyards. I'm telling you, this is. You need this.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
You need it.
Tom Schwartz
It's like. Remember when Julie Andrews was twirling around in the Sound of Music?
You know what I'm talking about?
Yeah,
Podcast Co-host or Guest
This is.
Tom Schwartz
That's how. That's how Kelowna feels.
Just like that.
But man, it is such a gorgeous place and I just. Yeah, man, I can't wait to go back British Columbia in general. But yeah, man, we're doing the damn thing today. We're gonna get into it with Bryce and. Yeah, I love you guys doing it. Another episode, another day. Beautiful day to be alive. All right, love you guys. Next stop, hitting the studios. Entertainment Tonight. Bryce Sander, let's go.
Should we just go? Bryce.
Hi.
Bryce Sander
Hi, Tom.
Tom Schwartz
Want to tell everybody where we are? What are we. What we're doing right now?
Bryce Sander
We're at my office at Entertainment Tonight, which is off.
Tom Schwartz
It's on Radford.
Bryce Sander
It's on the Radford lot in Studio City, California, AKA the Valley. The Valley, yes. We are still in the Valley.
Tom Schwartz
And I'm.
I feel like I'm living out your dream with you in real time, Right?
Bryce Sander
Yeah.
Tom Schwartz
Is this what you dreamed of doing? Being a correspondent, A journalist?
Bryce Sander
A hundred percent.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Bryce Sander
Yeah. It's so wacky.
Tom Schwartz
It's so cool. It's so cool that you did it. You feel like you've. Do you feel like you've achieved?
Bryce Sander
I genuinely checked the box. I think my, like, advice or what I say to people anytime is you might like, you have to remember when a dream becomes reality, it's a reality. So all the, like, dreamy parts of it sometimes aren't as dreamy because it's reality. But, like, yeah, it's. I'm still very lucky. This is a such a weird, strange, crazy job to have.
Tom Schwartz
It really is. And I like, on your profile, it says Chief Real Housewives Correspondent.
Bryce Sander
Yeah, that's not a real title. People legitimately think that's, like, what my
Tom Schwartz
job Is that's how I think of you.
Bryce Sander
I mean, I'll take it. It's not a bad way to be thought of.
Tom Schwartz
We just had a quick chat. I feel like we've been friends for a long time, and I was like, bryce, we've been through some shit together.
Bryce Sander
Yeah. I've seen you through many stages of life.
Tom Schwartz
You really have. My God, you've seen me in all my iterations. The good, the bad, the ugly.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
More. More.
The.
Bryce Sander
Well, no, I think mostly good.
Tom Schwartz
Mostly good.
Bryce Sander
Honestly, I'm usually there for the celebratory moment.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
You are.
Tom Schwartz
I like that about you. I was watching this new show. I just started it last night. It's called the Beast in Me. Oh, the limited series on Netflix.
Bryce Sander
Claire Danes.
Tom Schwartz
Yes.
It's so good. But I don't want to go into the whole plot. There's a line that caught me. She's sitting down with her new neighbor, who is a. Who supposedly killed his wife, and she's experiencing writer block. She used to be a super successful author, and she's explaining the concept for her new book. And he's like, eh, boring. He's like, people don't want hope. They want gossip and carnage. And I was like, oh, my God, I hate that.
He's right.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Yeah.
Bryce Sander
It's a sad state of reality.
Tom Schwartz
I mean, is that the truth of it? I know they say if it bleeds, it leads.
Interviewer or Narrator
Yeah.
Bryce Sander
Taught in journalism school.
Tom Schwartz
Wait, really?
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Yeah.
Bryce Sander
Not as. Like, use this as your guiding light, but it's like a lot of newsrooms operate from if it bleeds, it leads. Yeah. There's a lot of. You got to hook people usually with something that's not so pretty. But I find the Bravo fans like the mix of heavy and light.
Tom Schwartz
So, yeah, I love a well balanced show. If it gets too. I like the humor, of course.
We love.
I love an arc. I love a beginning, middle, and end.
Bryce Sander
We want to see redemption. We want to see evolution and change.
Tom Schwartz
I love redemption. I don't want to burn people at the pit.
Bryce Sander
I love.
Tom Schwartz
I guess I'm a reformed apologist, but some would say. But I love when people are held accountable. But I love. I truly believe in second and third and fourth and fifth chances.
Bryce Sander
What. What chance do you give up on somebody, though?
Tom Schwartz
I think 12 is my 12.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Yeah.
Bryce Sander
Okay, that's.
Tom Schwartz
That's.
Bryce Sander
You got a high threshold.
Tom Schwartz
Okay.
I wrote down questions, but really I'm thinking, like, over the years, inevitably, you forged some pretty strong, like, friendships with people that you do interviews with. Some of the talent and stuff. Does it ever become like a conflict of interest? Have you ever had moments where you're like, God, I'm like too close to this person now. I feel guilty really, holding their feet to the fire or like, or like dishing out the hard hitting questions at the risk of violating or compromising that friendship?
Bryce Sander
No, like with a heavy question mark on the end. I felt that, I feel like I do a good job at like, I'm friendly with most everybody but I'm not like involved in people's lives. I've hung out socially with very few people that I've interviewed outside of just like the same events we're at and that are like, we're, it's industry kind of level stuff. So I, I had to make that decision early on. I would have say yes to a lot more things when I was younger and first starting out of like, yeah, let's go hang up. And then you kind of realize that some of these people, yes, they do want to be your friend. Others have an ulterior motive of wanting, you know, kind press. But I, I went to legit journalism school. Like I learned how to interview people. I find that I can walk the line of asking the question people want to know while also hopefully people have a good time in their interviews.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, you're good at keeping it light, but then you, you're, you're, you're good at asking the hard hitting questions in a soft way. I wanted to give you a shout out for that.
Bryce Sander
Oh, well, thank you. Yeah, I try to approach people with like, how would you want to be asked and what. And kind of predictive. I can't predict what you're gonna say, but I might know from someone like you, who I've talked to dozens of times over a dozen years or so, like, oh, you know, Tom's probably gonna say something like this so I can set the question up in this way. Set him up in this way.
Tom Schwartz
It doesn't, yeah, when I sit down with you, it doesn't feel transactional.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
That's good.
Tom Schwartz
I feel a genuine connection with you.
Bryce Sander
Good.
Tom Schwartz
I can see that you're an empathetic, a well rounded, intelligent, only at work, but no way. On that note, you are like, you're very clearly an empathetic, compassionate, well rounded person. Do you ever feel guilty after an interview when you go home and you're like, my God, I feel kind of rotten because, you know, the best stories usually have the highest human cost. Do you ever go home and like stay up at night and think, my God, I feel Awful for just like,
Bryce Sander
not usually from an interview. It's more so when news breaks and there's kind of a pressure to like, start investigating what's going on. Like when Scandal happened. Trying to get in contact with a lot of you guys. Not through the, like, traditional chains of, you know, I go through a publicist and they're gonna book it. It's like, well, I gotta go straight to the source and see if they want to be a source or say anything. Those are the moments that I feel it's tougher.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Bryce Sander
Because I like being transparent with the audience. I like on camera stuff because it's like all of anyone who's on TV's chance to say their piece.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
Bryce Sander
And get their point of view out there. And, you know, it's like there's that whole. Their truth. It's like, it might not be the truth, but it's what they want people to hear. So it's moments like that. The regrets I have after an interview are like, oh, I should have followed up with this. I should have asked that question in this way. It's more like performance. Like watching the tape back.
Tom Schwartz
Totally. As a former aspiring actor, I was a genius after every audition.
American Express Announcer
Well, yeah.
Tom Schwartz
Minutes after all of these great ideas would come flooding in, like a cosmic interview. Like, I'm like, it's the worst feeling. But you've surely bombed a few interviews.
Bryce Sander
Oh, 100%. Or like, you didn't get enough sleep the night before, so you're not, like, on it enough to keep up with somebody.
Tom Schwartz
Totally.
Bryce Sander
And so.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Yeah.
Bryce Sander
No. But at this point, there's been thousands of interviews, so it's like the bulk of them went well.
Tom Schwartz
Without a doubt. And you've had a few, like. What's the word?
Michelle Collins
Titular?
Tom Schwartz
Or like, breakthrough pivotal interviews. Any off the top of your head that you think were like a turning
Bryce Sander
point in your career? Oh, that's a good question.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
It's.
Bryce Sander
This is. We were talking just before we started recording about, like, I guess you asked me at the top of this too, of like, this is the dream and like, living the this, like, dream you once had. And it's like, I don't know, it's like, at the end of the day, it's still just work or like, it balances out as work. So sometimes I don't think about, like, legacy impact stuff in that way. I would. Let me see if anything comes to mind.
Tom Schwartz
I didn't mean to put you on the spot. Cause honestly, we just did an interview and you didn't really put me on the spot.
Bryce Sander
I mean, I did. I'm just really good at my job.
Tom Schwartz
You are so good at your job. Remember when summer used to feel like a break? Never ending summers. You know what I'm talking about. I like to romanticize those old summers.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Felt like 500 days of summer. I don't know, hustle and bustle.
Tom Schwartz
I just.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
I haven't been able to savor the summer as much as we used to. As we grow older, more responsibilities, more money, more problems. Still love the sun. Fun in the sun.
Tom Schwartz
But I just feel like this is
Podcast Co-host or Guest
why people have been enjoying a more modern, or at least alternative way to decompress lately. That's where Indicloud is making a difference. In the Cloud is a fully legal online cannabis dispensary for gummies. Flour, premium pre rolls, zero sugar, THC sodas, energy gummies, extra strength sleep gummies.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah.
By the way, everything's federally legal.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Hemp THC lab tested, shipped discreetly directly to your door. It's kind of amazing. I don't know.
Tom Schwartz
Slightly I just feel like I don't
Podcast Co-host or Guest
actually need more plans. No me gusta. I'm still kind of a social butterfly by nature, but more and more, I just love staying in my little hermitage with the pups. I need more moments where I can just like actually enjoy the moment.
Tom Schwartz
I don't know.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
They felt fleeting lately. On to the next Go, go, go. Lately, just being in bed before 10.
Tom Schwartz
Oh, my God.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
A little slice of heaven. It's the new hotness snuggled up with the pups. The new midnight raspberry extra strength sleep gummies.
Tom Schwartz
Oh, yeah.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Help quiet that mental replay loop that I know we all deal with from time to time. Also help me scroll less or maybe like some nice THC sodas poolside for a calm little social energy. Nice little break from alcohol, but yeah, I don't know. I'm just saying the best part of summer shouldn't be recovering from it. We want harmony, baby. So if you're 21 or older, go to indecloud co. That's dot co, not dot com. And use the code RETOX for 30% off your first subscription order. That's indicloud. Code RETOX for 30% off. Shipped routinely and discreetly to your door. Plus free gifts and free shipping on qualifying orders. And don't forget to fill the quick survey when you order to support the show and enjoy responsibly. And Huge thanks to IndyCloud for helping everybody spend a little less time managing summer and a little more time enjoying it.

Wait. I wrote some other stock stuff down, but I kind of dislike talking with you.
Bryce Sander
I don't want to just keep chit chatting.
Tom Schwartz
I don't want to take up too much.
Bryce Sander
I love the time for you, Tom.
Tom Schwartz
I appreciate that.
Bryce Sander
I think the viewers need to know or the listeners need to know. You brought me unreleased Tom Tom swag and limited edition Schwartz and Sandy's shot glasses.
Tom Schwartz
You've always been a champion and a supporter. You've showed love for all of our restaurants. Sir pump TomTom shorts and Sandy's. Can I ask you what your favorite was?
Bryce Sander
Oh, I think Tom Tom is my favorite.
Tom Schwartz
Tom Tom Might Schwartz and Sandy's was our baby and I'm still very proud of it.
Bryce Sander
Only we got to shorts and Sandy's one time.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Yeah.
Bryce Sander
And it was early days, so I only got, like, to do, like, the taste of the menu and that kind of stuff. I don't know that I got to experience the full vibe in there.
Tom Schwartz
The full vibe.
Bryce Sander
I've been many times.
Tom Schwartz
Tom Tom's iconic, and I'm. I'm gonna miss it when it's gone. So I'm savoring every day that the doors are still open.
Bryce Sander
You're the ultimate they got. Whoever buys that place got has got to keep you on because you're the hype man. You're like, everybody come down. We're doing this, we're doing that.
Tom Schwartz
I love hosting. I love hosting. I love hosting on a. Matt Tom. Tom Schwartz and Sandy's. I do events all over, like, the country.
Bryce Sander
Yeah.
Tom Schwartz
I'm shocked how much I enjoy it. I think it just stems from my love of my fellow human beings.
Bryce Sander
You're a people person.
Tom Schwartz
I am a people person and a people pleaser. Reformed.
Bryce Sander
Reformed or reforming in the. In the process.
Tom Schwartz
We're all works of progress. I asked you this off mic, but favorite shows right now.
Bryce Sander
Favorite shows right now. If we're talking Bravo and this is not fan service. The Valley is the thing I like the most right now on Bravo. And what's currently airing, though OC premieres this week. That may supersede you guys. Season 20.
Tom Schwartz
That's insane. Two decades of Housewives. OC Bass.
Bryce Sander
Victoria Gunvalson is still around. I know.
Tom Schwartz
My God.
Bryce Sander
She was hobbling on the red carpet for their premiere because she has put off some sort of knee surgery because she was so committed to filming the show.
Tom Schwartz
If there ever is a Bravo Television hall of Fame, she's already in it.
Bryce Sander
She's a. She has the wifetime achievement award from Bravo Con.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
She does.
Tom Schwartz
That's right.
Wait, we have.
Well, hopefully I go, but. So Bravo Con skips every. For people who have never been. It's every other year.
Bryce Sander
Yes. Because. But you know the reason why I don't. So the marketing team at NBC Universal oversees, like, everything at NBC Universal. And the reason they had to skip when they moved to Vegas, because it was New York and Vegas back to back. And then they skipped the next year because that marketing team also runs the Olympics and they do not have the bandwidth to do both the Olympics and Bravo Con in one year.
Tom Schwartz
That makes so much sense.
I figured it was something logistically.
Bryce Sander
I think they've timed it out now that all the off years are like the Olympics years when they come fall into off years.
Tom Schwartz
And it's and I think it also helps build with anticipation and suspense. It's like the, it's like the World cup which is happening right now every four years. I'm not a big soccer fan, but when the World cup comes around, I'm chomping at the bit. I just watched the most exciting game of my life this morning before our interview. My God. Egypt and Argentina. It was insane. It was all the drama of all of the housewife reunions combined like the
Bryce Sander
reactions from the players like after moves and during. It's like it is housewives level tragicomedy
Tom Schwartz
like it really is. By the way, I think it's so you.
Interviewer or Narrator
So yeah, you're.
Tom Schwartz
You're actually a graduated journalist. You went to journalism school.
Bryce Sander
University of Missouri. The the country's first journalism school. Because back when somebody wanted to make a journalism school, no legitimate university thought it was a worthwhile career path. So this land grant university in the middle of Missouri took the money and. But it's, it's the first. It's considered by many the best. And I don't think I would be able to do what I do if I had not gone there.
Tom Schwartz
Did you always think you would end up in the entertainment world?
Bryce Sander
Oh yes. Like from when I went to just visit the school and meet with like the dean of the journalism school and all of that. It's like I don't want to do local news or hard news. I want to do entertainment news. Is that a path you can put me on here? And I had a great mentor. His name was Kent Collins. He's no longer with us, but he always watched out for me and was like yeah, we'll figure this out. And he my capstone which is supposed to be like your don't take my degree away, Mizzou, for saying this, like your big project, your big like here's everything I learned he my last semester or my I can't remember if it was my first or second semester of senior year. He's like I'm going to do a capstone with like just a few of you. It was just a literally a performance class. He would pop up a camera and we'd stand in front of it, do stand ups. He'd critique us. And that was like our big prove what you've learned to your class.
Tom Schwartz
You do a stand up bit.
Bryce Sander
Would you not. Not stand up comedy. Stand ups on for news are like when you see a reporter on camera talking straight to the camera. It's called a stand up industry term by the way. We just did My first ever walk and talk.
Tom Schwartz
What is a walk and talk?
Bryce Sander
For the shot, that B roll shot, which is just like a visual shot when you're watching Dateliner 2020, when they're like, you know, Rana saw everything from her window. And then you see, like, Keith Morrison walking down the street with some neighbor who he's about to sit down with. That's a walk and talk, by the way.
Tom Schwartz
I know you watch so many shows. Do you ever get reality TV fatigue? There's so many good shows now.
Bryce Sander
There's so many.
Tom Schwartz
How do you detox from. Just like,
Bryce Sander
I watch most everything on Bravo, but I've given up on some others, like, on other networks. I won't say what they are. And, I mean, my husband is a big fan of it, too. He worked in it too. So it's like, I don't know. Our household was just built for it.
Tom Schwartz
That's a beautiful thing.
Bryce Sander
But I also. I watch a lot. I've always watched a lot of tv.
Tom Schwartz
I do, too.
I can't keep up. There's so many good shows. Like we said earlier, I'm just about to start in the city. I'm really excited for that.
Bryce Sander
Get ready.
Tom Schwartz
And before we go, I said 10 minutes. It's 13 minutes.
Bryce Sander
That's okay. You can have 20.
Tom Schwartz
Thomas, this is perhaps the most important question of the whole interview. Okay. What is the most iconic Bravo song of all time? Is it good or gold? Or is it money can't buy you class?
Oh.
Or is it something else?
I.
Have you seen the Countess perform? Have you seen Sheena? Sheena just got back from London. She was on tour.
Bryce Sander
I've sadly never seen Sheena perform.
American Express Announcer
She's great.
Bryce Sander
She invited me to her birthday where you just. She was performing, and I couldn't make it, which I was so sad because I really wanted to see her perform. I've seen the Countess perform many times. It's kind of always the same show dressed up a little differently. I would love to see Good Is Gold live. I think Good Is Gold is up there. I think Don't Be Tardy by Kim Zolciak, which was, I think, the first entry into the canon of housewives. Songs made on the show, like, while the shows were going on, might take the cake for me just from a nostalgia factor. And it's one of those songs. It's an earworm that I just find myself randomly, you know, having, like, a moment where it's like, oh, I'm singing this out loud. Where did this come from? I don't remember. Why? She also has another song called the Ring Didn't Mean a Thing. And that. Because she goes, oh, oh, oh, oh, in that song. And that is a, like, vocal stim for me.
Tom Schwartz
Okay.
I don't know that one.
Bryce Sander
When I get cuts here, Tom.
Tom Schwartz
I'll play it for you guys at the end. Deep cuts. I appreciate the love, I appreciate the insight, and I appreciate you. Wait, one last thing. Most iconic theme song in Bravo history. In your opinion, it has to be
Bryce Sander
the Vanderpump Rules theme song.
Michelle Collins
You think?
Podcast Co-host or Guest
Well.
Bryce Sander
Cause what other theme songs are there with lyrics? I mean, Southern charm is up there. Actually.
Tom Schwartz
It's so good.
Bryce Sander
I wish they would bring back the theme songs like some of these shows. We've been introduced to theme songs. Summer House, you know, that whole thing. And then Southern hospitality. Are youe Going Out Tonight? Which I think actually Bravo. Commissioned from the same woman who wrote the Southern Charm theme song.
Tom Schwartz
Oh, oh, the Southern charm, I thought you were gonna say, because Dina Deedley performs Raise your Glass, the iconic Vanderpump Rules theme song. I actually met her brother who wrote the song, and he was at Schwartz and Sandy's for a night.
Progressive Insurance Announcer
Did I tell you this?
Bryce Sander
No.
Tom Schwartz
And he was so sweet, so charming. And he showed me a giant rock, a big diamond. He goes, your show bought me this.
Bryce Sander
I was gonna say, I hope that they are living well off of the now 12 years that song has been playing. I thought maybe with the soft reboot, they were going to have somebody remix it or re record it. They should have had Sheena do it.
Tom Schwartz
Honestly, I thought a remix was in order. I kind of liked it.
They kept it.
I kind of wish they would have remixed it a little just to show some differentiation. But yeah, man, that song, it used to haunt me. And now I think I love it. Like, in the beginning, I didn't like it. I remember we. We were like, I don't like it. Like, at least a lot of us didn't like it in the beginning. Now I love it. I think it's iconic. It's an earworm.
Bryce Sander
It's an earworm. But it was such of an era of like, the Rachel Zo Project and all those shows on that all had theme songs. And then you guys, for the. For a while were the only show with a theme song and an intro.
Tom Schwartz
Yeah, a strong intro.
Bryce Sander
A strong intro. Especially those last couple seasons where they were taking a drone and flying from Schwartz and Sandys to something about her and doing all that so beautifully.
Tom Schwartz
It was cinema.
Bryce Sander
It was cinema, Bryce. And that was before that was after the slow mos. The slow mo days, I hear, were really long days.
Podcast Co-host or Guest
They were.
Tom Schwartz
And back in the early slow mo days, we used to, like, drink out of boredom or we'd go up the street to the little Mexican spot just north of sir, and we would have shots and then we would get reprimanded.
But.
Bryce Sander
Well, yeah, because you come back, you have to do a twirl with a tray, but you can't stand on two feet anymore.
Tom Schwartz
And there's a whole new storyline exploding that just happened at the cantinas.
Bryce Sander
Have to go back, the cameras have to be taken off of filming the intro to film a scene for the show.
