Title: The Best of Fred Allen Author: Fred Allen Narrator: Fred Allen Format: Original Recording Length: 5 hrs and 54 mins Language: English Release date: 12-07-12 Publisher: PDQ AudioWorks Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 2 votes Genres: Nostalgia Radio, Comedy & Variety Publisher's Summary: Six of the funniest hour-long episodes by comedy master Fred Allen, from his live radio show. This wonderful blast from the past presents each episode exactly as it aired on the radio - including the commercials! Fred Allen was an American comedian whose absurdist, pointed radio show, made him one of the most popular and forward-looking humorists in the so-called classic era of American radio. Allen is considered one of the more accomplished, daring and relevant humorists of his time. A master ad libber, he constantly battled censorship and developed routines whose substance and style influenced future comic talents, notably Stan Freberg and Johnny Carson. Perhaps more than any of his generation, Fred Allen wielded influence that outlived both his contemporaries and the medium that made him famous. Episodes: Members Reviews: Full shows, not highlights I was looking for highlights of Fred Allen, not fullshows with commercials. I wanted to play them on my college radio show and don't have the know how to cut them up.

Title: The Burns & Allen Show, Collection 1 Author: Black Eye Entertainment Narrator: Full Cast Format: Original Recording Length: 5 hrs and 49 mins Language: English Release date: 12-28-17 Publisher: Brilliance Audio Genres: Nostalgia Radio, Comedy & Variety Publisher's Summary: When real life husband and wife George Burns and Gracie Allen worked together in vaudeville, George was the comic and his wife Gracie had the straight lines. They switched their roles upon discovering that Gracie's delivery got a bigger laugh than George's punch lines. The duo became a big hit on Vaudeville and in films so when radio beckoned, they delivered. Their first regular radio work was as supporting players on CBS's The Guy Lombardo Show in the 1930s. When Lombardo switched to NBC, George and Gracie took over the show. Early on, the two did not play a married couple on the air. For a long time, they continued a 'flirtation act' with George as Gracie's most persistent suitor. But when the show's ratings began to sag toward the end of the 1930s, George decided it was time their real-life marriage was written into the show. The new format included husband-and-wife characters in a situation comedy setting. George's instincts were spot-on and The Burns & Allen Show went on to new heights, eventually making a successful transition to television. 7/29/40 Going to a Kiddie Party 9/30/40 George Disappears 11/17/42 Hat Box Hostage 1/26/43 King George Becomes a Royal Pain 2/2/43 Good Help is Hard to Find 3/23/43 Making George Sick 3/30/43 Victory Garden 10/26/43 Guest: Hedy Lamarr 11/2/43 Guest: Jack Benny 12/21/43 Guests: Charles Laughton and Elsa Lanchester 12/28/43 Guest: John Garfield 1/25/50 Guest: Ronald Reagan

Title: The Jack Benny Program, Collection 1 Author: Black Eye Entertainment Narrator: full cast Format: Unabridged Length: 5 hrs and 56 mins Language: English Release date: 12-18-17 Publisher: Brilliance Audio Genres: Nostalgia Radio, Comedy & Variety Publisher's Summary: Born in Chicago, February 14, 1894, Benjamin Kubelsky would later become known as Jack Benny. As a boy, he was encouraged by his Jewish immigrant parents from Poland to become a concert violinist. He learned to play quite well and hit the vaudeville stage, where he played popular songs and honed a suave-but-fragile personality, telling self-deprecating jokes. Benny guested on the "Ed Sullivan" radio show March 19, 1932 and was an instant success. Canada Dry signed him to a contract that same year and soon Jack Benny was broadcasting each week on CBS. His radio career included a long run on NBC and then a return to CBS through his final radio days. His all-star supporting cast included his wife Mary Livingstone, Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, Dennis Day, Phil Harris, Mel Blanc, Frank Nelson and announcer Don Wilson. As Jerry Seinfeld would emulate years later on his TV show, Benny's cast received the best jokes - many pointed at the show's star. Expert scripts constantly reminded listeners of Benny's portrayal of himself as a stingy and vain man, concerned about his receding hairline and insistence that he was no older than 39. Benny's radio show made a successful transition to television with his entire supporting cast following. This incredible collection of "The Jack Benny Program" is as funny and timely as it was when first broadcast. 2/13/49 Jack's Birthday is Tomorrow 3/6/49 At the Races with guests, Ronald and Benita Colman 3/13/49 After the Races 1/15/50 Guest, Fred Allen 2/26/50 The Whistler Spoof called The Fiddler 3/5/50 Buck Benny Rides Again 3/26/50 Guest, Bob Hope 4/2/50 Guest, Al Jolson 4/16/50 Mary Convinces Jack to Paint the House 11/29/53 Shopping for a Thanksgiving Turkey 12/6/53 Preparing for a Palm Springs Vacation 1/20/57 In Bed with a Cold and Hears a Burglar

Members Reviews: I would recommend. You can't go wrong with this purchase. Phil Harris and Alice Faye are hilarious! Yes, I would recommend. Great Shows From The First Year OF Phil Harris & Alice Faye! Just finished listening to "The Fitch Bandwagon - Phil Harris & Alice Faye - Stepping Out" released by Radio Spirits. When The Fitch Shampoo Company was looking to revamp it's popular, but typical musical/comedy sketch half hour radio show hosted by Dick Powell for the 1946 radio season, it began courting Phil Harris and Alice Faye. While The Fitch Bandwagon enjoyed success radio ratings, Fitch wanted to revamp the show with an eye towards duplicating the success enjoyed by "The Ozzie & Harriet Show" since situational family comedies were enjoying popularity amongst radio listeners back in 1946. So when Phil Harris and Alice Faye signed a five-year, $3 million contract back on July 10, 1946 - the husband and wife duo would soon put their own twist on the family comedy and turn it into a highly popular absurdest comedy show. This latest release from Radio Spirits highlights the sixteen programs from the first year of "The Fitch Bandwagon - Phil Harris & Alice Faye Show" and gives great insight as to how the show evolved into its winning formula. May favorite episodes are: "Recording Studio," "Vacation From Marriage," "Phil Goes Camping," "Daddy's Night," "The Easter Bunny Suit," "Phil Gets A Threatening Letter," and "Phil Goes On A Budget." Highly Recommended. Five Stars! Fun with Phil and Alice Another FUNNY collection of the Phil Harris/Alice Faye Show for Fitch Shampoo. Jack Benny appears in 3 episodes. Short scenes but well done. Always a treat when both Alice and Phil sing a song. HIGLY RECOMMEND!

Title: Our Miss Brooks, Collection 1 Author: Black Eye Entertainment Narrator: full cast Format: Original Recording Length: 5 hrs and 56 mins Language: English Release date: 08-23-17 Publisher: Brilliance Audio Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Nostalgia Radio, Comedy & Variety Publisher's Summary: Our Miss Brooks was a situation comedy show heard on radio and seen on television and films. It starred Hollywood film and New York stage veteran Eve Arden, who had specialized in playing the wisecracking friend to the heroine. She often did it better than anyone else, receiving an Oscar nomination for 1945's Mildred Pierce; Arden's skill with the wicked one-liner and acid aside was beginning to lead to typecasting so, to find a new image, Arden signed on for the lead in radio's OUR MISS BROOKS. The series centered on Connie Brooks, a smart, sharp-witted, lovable English teacher at fictional Madison High School. Between gentle wisecracks, Miss Brooks doted on nerdish student Walter Denton (Richard Crenna) and frequently locked horns with crusty, cranky Principal Osgood Conklin (Gale Gordon). Many plot lines revolved around Miss Brooks' longing for Philip Boynton (Jeff Chandler), the school's bashful biology teacher. OUR MISS BROOKS made a successful transition to TV in 1952 while the radio series lasted until 1957.
