Members Reviews: Phenomenal end to a great series A pulse pounding, page turning suspenseful end to a great series. The serial killer is still on the loose and the SSI team is running out of options and new clues are down to a trickle. Will Townes and his men be able to bring him down or will the body count keep rising? We first met Townes Calvert in Radiant Surrender pulling guard duty for CSA owner Gavin Crest. He made an impression that was unforgettable and I was beyond excited to see him get his own series. Safeguard series is yet another must read by Kennedy Layne and Townes finally gets to tell his story. A story that will have you tearing up and biting your nails as you devour this five star read. H/h dynamic is great, supporting characters add to the story and the villain is a classic head job. Wow!!! âïâïâïâïâï Wow! What a book! This is the last book in the series and this author did it with a great book. I have loved this series from the get go and really hate for it to end...couldnât we hire some new guys!?! We get the story of why Townes Calvert started his business and just how crazy the bad guy it. We also get a look at the survivor who got away from the crazy bad guy years ago and experience her struggle to survive. You really need to read the first 5 books and then dig into this one, you wonât regret it. The sad thing about this book is that it ends the series. I have already preordered the next series.

Members Reviews: Great Romantic Suspense with Brody and Remy This is the third book in a spin off series from CSA Case files. These are all great romantic suspense books! Kennedy Layne has a very easy to read writing style. She keeps you guessing until the end. The characters form a private security agency, and they end up falling in love with their strong woman that needs protecting. I love how the other characters are still involved in all of the books. This book focuses on Brody, the local computer guru. He falls for Remy, an advertising executive, who finds herself in a web of deceipt. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Kennedy Layne's books. This one did not let me down! Could. Not. Put. It. Down. Could. Not. Put. It. Down. Seriously the action and passion kept me glued to it. This was an intense story. First we have the team hunting an escaped serial killer then we get an assignment to protect a woman from a the released killer of her sister. Remy is dead set on revenge and can't seem to move past it. Brody is more laid back and is determined to protect her. We stay on our toes the whole time with this book. Great Story Remy's worst nightmare has just been released from the mental ward after only four years after killing her sister, she doesn't want protection but once she meets Brody she might change her mind. I hope as shocked about who was the person leaking information about who was protecting Remy. Intriguing and suspenseful! Great mystery.

Title: Casual Impressions Author: Kennedy Layne Narrator: Basil Sands Format: Unabridged Length: 6 hrs and 55 mins Language: English Release date: 12-07-17 Publisher: Audible Studios Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense Publisher's Summary: In this electrifying novel from USA Today best-selling author Kennedy Layne, the Safeguard team is coming ever closer to catching an elusive serial killer who might very well be hunting one of their own.... Sawyer Madison has spent the last few months hunting down a sadistic killer. He and his team don't seem to be any closer to solving this particular case that has hit a little too close to home. Fortunately, they had all served in the corps. That kind of training and dedication meant none of them considered quitting before the mission was done. Camryn Novak had spent most of her childhood, and a large part of her adult life, dealing with her overprotective brother. So when an admirer becomes a little too obsessed with her due to her high-profile career, she decides it would be simpler to reach out to someone a little less emotionally invested. Sawyer never expected to bump into the sister of one of his teammates while traveling on assignment. Women like her were off limits - one shouldn't mix business with pleasure. One burning touch was all it took to make his good intentions go up in flames. Unfortunately, it won't just be her brother's wrath he's forced to face when an unknown perp targets Camryn - it might very well be the same psychopath they've been hunting all along. Title: The Long Harbor Testament Author: Tom Minder Narrator: Rick Barr Format: Unabridged Length: 8 hrs and 53 mins Language: English Release date: 12-05-17 Publisher: Beacon Audiobooks Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense Publisher's Summary: A parish priest has a gambling problem, a girlfriend, and his brother just killed his bookie. A police detective and mobster both investigate, while the town questions if it's a crime at all or a public service. It has everything you need in a mystery: gambling, drinking, Girl Scout cookies, a wedding with a miracle, a canine ring bearer, a dead man telling a terrible joke, fast food, diners, and spit takes, and road rage. Members Reviews: A first-class tale of gamblers, mobsters and greasy spoons First off, a disclosure: While author Tom Minder and I donât know each other, we share the same publisher and the same need for honest reviews. That said, I am pleased to report how enjoyable âThe Long Harbor Testamentâ is, both from the standpoint of character development and the authorâs attention to plot details. Serving as the backdrop for this gritty tale of gamblers, mobsters, detectives and a suspect land development deal is Long Harbor, an eastern berg notable for its wharf, piers and â perhaps most notably â its greasy spoons, where its mix of sometimes ethically challenged characters gather on regular basis to chow down on chili and exchange some not always so pleasant pleasantries. Father Jim, a priest with a football betting and girlfriend problem, and a fair amount of influence over the townspeople is at the center of a story, but heâs far from the taleâs sole focal point. Heâs joined by an array of others, including his occasionally volatile brother, Gabe, who has some interesting personal problems of his own, one of which involves an accidental death that will prove tricky to explain since it involves the local mob bossâ protégé. (This occurs early in the novel, so donât fear â this is not a spoiler.) The writing here is precise, direct and keeps the reading wondering whatâll come next; itâs a true page-turner. The humor here is appropriately dark but not overly so, and I found the use of the Father Jimâs sermons, inserted into the text of the book, an interesting way to provide readers with the priestâs inner thoughts. I highly recommend the novel and look forward to what Tom Minder offers going forward. A Modern Day Bible Interpretation in a Police Procedural Genre Tom Minderâs The Long Harbor Testament is indeed filled with lovable but deeply flawed characters. This police procedural echoes back to the Columbo television series from 1968 to 1978 when the audience watched the murder happen, knew who the murderer was, and then followed Lt. Columbo as he linked the evidence together to be able to arrest the culprit for murder. And at the same time, the audience watched the murderer squirm and try to convince others that he was innocent. What makes Minderâs story unique is its frame around the Bible. It starts with the title: The Long Harbor Testament. Title chapters recall Bible passages as well, and the main thrust of the parables echo in the story chapter events. If you look deeply into the life of the story, youâll find the 7 Deadly Sins of pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and, I think, even sloth. One of the protagonists is Jim Cooper, a priest, and the insight offered through his sermons and sermon writing allows the reader to reflect on her own life as well as the life within the story. The story moves along crisply.

Title: Honest Intentions Subtitle: Safeguard Series Author: Kennedy Layne Narrator: Basil Sands Format: Unabridged Length: 6 hrs and 37 mins Language: English Release date: 11-30-17 Publisher: Audible Studios Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense Publisher's Summary: USA Today best-selling author Kennedy Layne continues the Safeguard Series with this fast-paced romantic suspense novel that leads the SSI team on the trail of a serial killer who continually seems to be one step ahead. Coen Flynn has always done the right thing, even it meant siding against his own family. His sense of justice was what led him to take a job in law enforcement, though his choice of agency was a bit unorthodox. His current assignment was believed to be a simple protection detail. He was never supposed to be identified by his charge, but a murder took priority and changed the course of his mission. Brettany Lambert's life is suddenly rocked when she finds the body of a dead friend on the eve of what was supposed to be a special wedding. Now Brettany and Coen are trapped in the middle of a blizzard and their attraction will fuel the heat of temptation. Good intentions always have a way of backfiring, but his desired intent won't matter if a notorious serial killer can finish what he started. Series Description: Safeguard Security & Investigations (SSI) is owned and operated by Townes Calvert, a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant who returned home to the States a bit more damaged than he'd care to admit. Members Reviews: Honestly Good A suspenseful, page turning 5 Star read with wonderful characters and a few twists and turns. An amazing addition to the SSI series that any suspense lover will enjoy. Coen Flynn, operative for SSI, has been tasked with keeping Brettany Lambert safe from serial killer Shepherd Moss. For the last month he has been discreetly keeping tabs on her while keeping an eye out for the sadistic killer. While the other members of his team think the serial killer is nowhere near Coenâs gut is telling him something is off. Following his gut he refuses to head back to sunny Florida and approaches Brett telling her what is going on. What follows is one hell of a ride. Loved it! I was not sure I was going to like Coen. But as it turned out I liked him a lot. He is kind of uptight and rigid until finally he losens up as he lets Brett in a little. The search for Moss continues and becomes closer to SSI. I am so excited to see what happens next ! Write on Kennedy! Bravo! We are getting closer to the serial killer We are getting closer to the serial killer. Seems he is always one step ahead of our team. What we think is the serial killer's MO is actually a farce. Not only are we surprised to find out who this killer is and why we are also surprised by the guy that is so much worse sneaking in. Couldn't put it down. On to book six, might be an all night affair!! Every book in this series has gotten better than the last one.

Title: First Person Author: Richard Flanagan Narrator: David James Format: Unabridged Length: 13 hrs and 22 mins Language: English Release date: 11-15-17 Publisher: Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense Publisher's Summary: In this blistering story of a ghostwriter haunted by his demonic subject, the Man Booker Prize winner turns to lies, crime and literature with devastating effect. Kif Kehlmann, a young penniless writer, is rung in the middle of the night by the notorious con man and corporate criminal, Siegfried Heidl. About to go to trial for defrauding the banks of $700 million, Heidl offers Kehlmann the job of ghostwriting his memoir. He has six weeks to write the book, for which he'll be paid $10,000. But as the writing gets underway, Kehlmann begins to fear that he is being corrupted by Heidl. As the deadline draws closer, he becomes ever more unsure if he is ghost writing a memoir or if Heidl is rewriting him - his life, his future. Everything that was certain grows uncertain as he begins to wonder: who is Siegfried Heidl - and who is Kif Kehlmann? As time runs out, one question looms above all others: what is the truth? By turns compelling, comic and chilling, this is a haunting journey into the heart of our age. Critic Reviews: "Flanagan's writing courses like a river...a vivid, voluptuous, exhilarating writer." (The Sunday Telegraph) "Quite simply, Flanagan is an outstanding writer." (Metro) Members Reviews: First person: An acute analysis of the age of the second rate A compelling dissection of the trap of narcissism, written with passion and deep insight into the craft of writing and its relationship with truth, celebrity and power. This novel mines character and personal responsibility with finely honed writing and though occasionally requiring perseverance, delivers a seam of darkly gleaming humour, studded with raw gems of observation on the human condition. The performance by audio is solidly delivered with just the right measure of authority and droll drawl to capture an Australian take on the industry of literature and the flaws of the contemporary personality. I think it is not for the listener who doesnt want to think about what they are hearing. It is a book that invites investigation of where the corpses are buried, drawing the listener in to the search, not for the sake of detective adventure (which it certainly provides) but because it reminds us, they are right here, underneath our commonplace endeavours. If you are interested in writing, in recent history, in the nature of the self, this is the book to listen too. To quote the cliches, I laughed out loud. I was moved to tears. It got into my dreams.

Title: Gangster Nation Subtitle: The Gangsterland Series, Book 2 Author: Tod Goldberg Narrator: Johnny Heller Format: Unabridged Length: 11 hrs and 25 mins Language: English Release date: 09-12-17 Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc. Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 6 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense Publisher's Summary: It's been two years since the events of Gangsterland, when legendary Chicago hit man Sal Cupertine disappeared into the guise of Vegas rabbi David Cohen. It's September 2001, and for David everything is coming up gold: temple membership is on the rise, the new private school is raking it in, and the mortuary and cemetery - where Cohen has been laundering bodies for the mob - is minting cash. But Sal wants out. He's got money stashed in safe-deposit boxes all over the city. He's looking at places to escape to - Mexico or maybe Argentina. He only needs to make it through the high holidays, and he'll have enough money to slip away, grab his wife and kid, and start fresh. Across the country, former FBI agent Matthew Drew is now running security for an Indian casino outside Milwaukee, spending his off-time stalking members of the Family, looking for vengeance for the murder of his former partner. So when Sal's cousin stumbles into the casino one night, Matthew takes the law into his own hands - again - touching off a series of events that will have Rabbi Cohen running for his life, trapped in Las Vegas, with the law, society, and the post-9/11 world closing in around him. Gangster Nation is a thrilling follow-up to Gangsterland, an unexpected examination of the seedy foundations of American life. With the wit and gritty glamour that defines his writing, Goldberg traces how the things we most value in our lives - home, health, even our spiritual lives - have been built on the enterprises of criminals. Members Reviews: Gripping Story What made the experience of listening to Gangster Nation the most enjoyable? What kind of writer gets me to feel empathy for a mobster hit man? A good one. Is the whole story line believable? Maybe not, but it's a fun story anyway. One reason we care about Sal/David is the way he is so in love with his wife that he doesn't stray to other women--even after three years. It would be so easy to rationalize that, and Goldberg makes it feel real. The other POV characters are equally interesting and emotionally charged. Goldberg makes some painful choices in this story--surprising ones that had me literally gasping out loud. I won't put any spoilers in this review, but it should be no surprise that not everyone in a book titled Gangster Nation makes it out alive and unharmed. What other book might you compare Gangster Nation to and why? Probably Gangsterland...they are two books in the same series. Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? At the end, I wanted to hit Tod, just a little bit. But that's the way I always feel when I come to the end of a fully entertaining story. "Nooooo....I WANT MORE!" Any additional comments? My ONLY peeve is that the narrator doesn't know how to say Nevada correctly. Even Sal would get it after living there for three years. :P
