Shop the 1080 at New Balance. Com hey guys. Welcome back to Disgraceful, the podcast of the late night show. We're still not sure over here, but I do know one thing for sure. I want you to come. Please, baby, come. What do you mean by that? Well, pause. I'm doing shows in South Carolina this weekend at Wit's End Comedy Club. And I'm doing seven. Seven shows. And after a six month run of selling out shows and having a blast and having a ball, you're not buying tickets to this one, are you? And I don't know why and I'm not quite sure. So I need to reiterate. Please come this weekend, South Carolina. Charleston, South Carolina. I gonna be with my boys, Liam, Dalton and Mook. And we're gonna be running up seven shows. Seven shows. I might have bit off a little more than I could chew. Actually, I definitely have because from those ticket sales, might not be seven, it might not even be one. All right? So please, am I crying or burping? I'm not sure. Please come to those shows up after that. We've got June 16th. I'm gonna be in Long Beach, New York, at Borelli's Tap Room. And that's gonna be a fun one. I booked a hotel for the night. We're gonna go crazy at Long Beach. It's gonna be a good one. I'm very excited. Which leads us to our next and final reminder. I'm doing shows In Honolulu, Hawaii, July 2nd. Please come through. It's gonna be at Blue Note. And I wasn't originally gonna do shows. I don't know if you guys remember, but back around Christmas time, I booked my mom a trip of a lifetime. She's always wanted to go to Hawaii, and so I booked her round trip to Hawaii. And at the time, I didn't know if my tour was gonna sell. I didn't know if I was going to have this job. And so I just. I took a bet on myself and all I bought my mom was a round trip ticket to Hawaii. Just flights. Until last week, I didn't even have my own flights booked. I didn't know how things were looking. Thank God things worked out the way they did. But the trip was the only thing I had planned. And then my team asked me if I wanted to do shows while I was out there. And I was like, yes, of course I do. Wrong move. I think there's about four tickets sold out of 500. So, yeah, you know, if I do shows in Hawaii, that'd be cool. And if it doesn't work out, that's all right. But, yeah, that was my plan. Around Christmas time, I booked my mom this trip and I just booked to the flights. And just of last week, I finally booked the hotel and my flights and my mom asked me before I was coming home this weekend, she said, oh, Grace, what hotel did you end up going with? And I sent her this one. And I wanted it to be realistic because, well, for those listening, this picture is brutal. And it's not to shame any kind of a hotel, but, you know, it's not the best one. I actually, I purposely did that whatever was right after the hostel listings. And I sent my mom that picture and she was with my other sisters and she goes, oh, I bet a lot of those hotels haven't changed. That makes it, like, authentic. It's why it looks so old. And then she came back into the room and was like, yeah, we're probably just gonna be at the beach the whole time. We don't need a pool at the hotel. Right, guys? And my mom was super bummed. What I did to her was I made her wait from the minute I went onto My plane. I sent her the hotel that I sent her. And then when she came and picked me up, she was like, so that hotel, that's gonna be fun, huh? And I go, no, it's not. She goes, what are you talking about? I go, cause I'm tricking you. We're staying at a fancy, fancy hotel. So I got my mom real good. I wish I got her reaction. Cause she's was about to cry. And then when I told her she did cry, she was happy with whatever she got. But, I mean, I'm telling you this. This room was. I think they have a tube TV inside, inside the room. Not that that matters, but I don't know, it was a fun little. Fun little trick I was able to do on my mom. And it's all thanks to you guys. I really appreciate you guys coming to shows and. Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't be able to do it without you. Now I'm gonna fucking tear up. All right. Disgraceful with Grace o' Malley is brought to you by Tinder. This week on the episode, I was talking about how it was fleet week and all the sailors were coming in and I wanted to hook, line and sink one in the nicest, most romantic way possible. Shop the 1080@New Balance.com and why was I coming home this weekend? It's because my little sister, I almost said, was getting married. No, she was graduating college. Nope. Graduating high school. My sister was graduating high school. And this weekend was good. It felt good to be home on the first night I got picked up with my girls. We went out and we went out in Plymouth, Massachusetts. That's where the pilgrims landed. If you didn't know, now you know. And yeah, we had a blast. Our original plan was to go out for dinner, just have like a good little kick it back, gossip little dinner, right? Catching up with the gals. When we got in there, we didn't realize we were. That this restaurant turns into a backyard jam sesh. So we didn't just have dinner, we had dinner and a motherfucking show. And it was also like a high school reunion while we were there, which was really funny. And we were blasting off, having a great night. But I had my mom in the back of my head saying, don't get too drunk, don't be hungover for the graduation. I should have listened because we ended up staying out pretty, pretty late. And what I didn't realize was when you're out there in Plymouth, Massachusetts, to get a 30 minute ride home will either never come or cost you $250. And so I called up papa. My dad, My dad came through, he came, picked us up. I felt like I was in high school again. It was fucking incredible. It was really good stuff. Except this time when your dad comes to pick you up, you don't get in trouble. Cause you're an adult and you made the smart choice. And so they're actually, they're happy. And so we came back, we drank a couple beers back at the house. Oh, and then the next day was my sister's graduation. And it was a beautiful, glorious, amazing day in pen. But the weather said that it was gonna rain. So the graduation was inside. And on top of being hungover, I think I might have started to get sick. And I felt myself dozing off, almost about to pass out. It was hot as balls in there. It was so hot. But nevertheless, we pushed on. My mom and I took a couple bathroom breaks. I was ripping e cigarettes in the bathroom like a child. And I didn't know that in high schools now that they have detectors for cigarettes. E cigarettes to be exact. And I thought it would be really funny if that would have went off because that's kind of how my school looks at me when I go back there. Well, anyways, it was hot as balls. I had a 7 year old, I'm pretty sure he was 7, could have been 6. Asked me for a picture. I couldn't Believe it. I think my face turned bright red. Or maybe I was about to pass out. I'm not sure. But that's the youngest photograph I've ever taken with a child ever. It really blew my mind. And when my sister went across the stage, my family went absolutely ape shit. Gorilla mode. Went super nuts. And I showed my principal and my vice principal. They looked over to me and they said, yeah, we had a feeling. We had a feeling that was you. No shit. It's my sister. You know, I don't know if they like me, but it doesn't matter. I'm out of there. But being back there felt like it was giving me like the. Like when I went to the bathroom with my mom, I said, did you know I had a few lunches in here by myself? She goes, oh, sweetheart, I did that too. And I was like, ah, damn. Must be a family trait. Yeah. So being back in high school was weird. And then when we got outside, we met my sister and we gave her a cigar. Apparently no one's doing that anymore. Nobody else is smoking cigars when they graduate. That's too bad, because my sister was the only one smoking a cigar. And my history teacher came up to me and said, I thought I smelled something. And I said, it's not me, it's my sister. He goes, yeah, well, I figured it was the same family, all right. He said, I came to one of your shows when you were in Boston. I said, oh no, did you have fun? It was good to see them. I just don't know how they feel about me because when they come up to me, I just, I could go on a tangent. Anyways, let's go to Shout Outs, the shout outs of the week, of course. My sister shout out Maggie for graduating high school. I almost couldn't do it. And I, I knew you could. And she actually, I thought we had the same GPA. When I graduated high school, I had a 1.59 GPA. I shouldn't have graduated. I thought she had a 1.7. She busted that bad boy up to a 2.0. So proud of Maggie. It skips a generation. I was the asshole. My sister Nora was good and Maggie was the asshole. And now, Molly, it's up to you to decide your future. That's the 11 year old people forget. She's actually 12 now. She just had her birthday. Happy birthday. Shout out, Molly. Happy birthday. And my next shout out is shout out to the people who don't ask where you're going to school. You know, because when my sister Graduated. There was a bunch of people saying, oh, Maggie, where you going to school? And for her, she has something lined up, but for me, I didn't. And it used to really piss me off. But people don't know otherwise because everyone just assumes you're going off to school after you graduate high school. But not everybody is. And I remember specifically this one instance where I was in a grocery store with my mother and she ran into one of her friends. And the lady, she asked me, she said, oh, Grace, where are you going to school? After this, I just started crying because I didn't know what I was gonna do, but I didn't know how to tell her that. And so I just. Instead of just making up a school, which I started doing after that, but instead of making up a school, I just started crying. And I don't know, maybe that's a me thing, but I just don't think you should ask kids when they graduate high school where they're going to school. Cause you don't have to go to school, clearly. I mean, there's so many other things you could do. And I just don't. I hate that it's assumed. Don't even get me started. The other thing I used to do. So after that, I was like, oh, I never want to cry in front of an adult again. So what I started doing was just making up schools. That brings you to a bad lying bit. Because I would go to this. We used to go to this breakfast place and this lady, I think to this day thinks I graduated from Arizona State. She's like, ah, how's Arizona? How's Arizona State going?
Unknown Guest
What?
Grace O'Malley
Oh, good. Real good. I love it there. It's a lot of fun. Yeah. So, I don't know. Just a little tip. Next. Shout out. Oh, shout out to my buddies O and Jack and Grace on their new show, Adults. If you gotta check that out, go to. Go check that out. Go check that out. You gotta watch it on Hulu fx, Disney plus and as always, shout out to you guys, thank you so much for tuning in, coming to shows and reposting on your story. That's a big one for us because recently, last week, I got a comment on a clip we posted from the last episode with Jake Shane that said, I've never seen a video of Jake Shane under 1k likes. To which I replied, we're new here and we're just trying our best. And aren't we all? Aren't we all just trying to try our best? I don't know, man. I don't have much for you guys today because after my sister graduated, we went out to lunch and at lunch my whole entire family. Not because we were hungover, but something flipped and something switched and we all just started having like drowsy eyes. And I wasn't even drinking. I didn't even drink. I didn't even have a single. I had. I ripped four Shirley Temples. My mom was like checking my temperature just for that. She was like, is everything all right? You okay? But during lunch, we all just kind of started getting droopy. Drowsy eye. And we were like, oh, we're tired. We're so tired. We came home, we each separately went into different rooms and. And fell asleep from 2:00 clock to 8:30 at night. Now, I don't wanna say we got drugged, cause that's crazy because I don't know what that would be. But I do think we might all be sick. I think I'm getting over it right now or something. My brain's not working. My body definitely not working. Who gets sick right before summer starts? Grow up. You're an adult. You don't really have summer anymore. Yeah, you do. You have a fun job. Shut up. Who cares? Well, enjoy the show. Coming at you live from a shady.
Unknown Guest
Manhattan studio, it's Disgraceful, featuring your gracious ginger host.
Grace O'Malley
Hey, watch yourself. Only I can say that.
Unknown Guest
Okay, boss, whatever you say. You pay my bills. Give it up for Grace o' Malley.
Grace O'Malley
Hi guys. Welcome back to Disgraceful, the podcast or the late night show or you know, just something you put on while you're washing your socks. I am here very, very excited. This week I am joined by stand up comedian, actress, writer, one of Variety's top 10 comics to watch. Your new special's coming out called Father in June. And as you named me, a cousin of mine in Texas, do you recall.
Unknown Guest
Oh my God, was I drunk or sober?
Grace O'Malley
I think, I think it was midday. So who's to say?
Unknown Guest
It's really, you know, you know, I was sober. I was sober. Yes, cousin.
Grace O'Malley
Cousin. Yeah, we were all calling each other family.
Unknown Guest
Yes, we're family. Yes, yes. Cousin. Yes. Welcome in.
Grace O'Malley
Thank you so much for coming on.
Unknown Guest
Thank you, thank you for having me.
Grace O'Malley
How is your.
Unknown Guest
What are we doing today for this family reunion?
Grace O'Malley
It's a family reunion. Who we introducing? So I don't know if you're familiar with the show, but I am looking for a new co host and on each episode I interview each guest that comes on to see if they'd be a good fit. If you'd be interested.
Unknown Guest
I'm interested. Yes. And I'm ready.
Grace O'Malley
All right, let's do this. Oh, I saw your fans in Singapore. They surprised you with wigs of what your hair looks like. Like, your haircut. And so my question here is, how would you ever feel if we did a hair swap wig week where I perform with your hair and you perform with mine?
Unknown Guest
Oh, my gosh. I feel like I. I love anything where I can get away with it more than the other person in that. I think a bow cut would look great on you. Yes.
Grace O'Malley
I'll tell you right now, it doesn't.
Unknown Guest
Oh, you're.
Grace O'Malley
I'll give you a visual.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my God. Please. Oh, my God. What a beauty. Are you kidding? That is fashion.
Grace O'Malley
I look like. You know who I look like? I look like Liza Minnelli. We.
Unknown Guest
Are you kidding? Eliza Minnelli. Another icon.
Grace O'Malley
And I will say red's your color.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my God. So I was wondering. I was like, wait, so what is that? Is that a thing you actually did? This is just like, some kind of cgi. Some kind of cgi? Some kind of AI Photoshop?
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, for sure. I bought. I got a free trial.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my God, that's so beautiful. I. I am full on a drag queen. I'm not. That's not me. Yeah, that's.
Grace O'Malley
So just to give you a. Is that something you want to do for a week?
Unknown Guest
Yeah. I feel like you look way more iconic. You look than me.
Grace O'Malley
Well, it's all thanks to you. I literally put your actual hair onto my actual head.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my gosh.
Grace O'Malley
And then I couldn't get mine to go on. So this is some lady that they show at the hair salon is put onto your head.
Unknown Guest
I love it. And I only meant to say, like, oh, could I get away with it more? And that, like, you know, will people be like, oh, is she trying to be Asian? And I'd be like. I'd be the first to be like, uh, Liza Minnelli.
Grace O'Malley
Liza Minnelli.
Unknown Guest
Liza Minnelli.
Grace O'Malley
No, no.
Unknown Guest
I would save you.
Grace O'Malley
Not too much on my.
Unknown Guest
From that.
Grace O'Malley
Me and Liza Minnelli, we're real close.
Unknown Guest
You know, you, Liza the Explorer, Dora the Explorer. We all the Beatles.
Grace O'Malley
Jenner, you know?
Unknown Guest
Yeah, I was just. We're just naming. Oh, yeah. Kris Jenner. Yeah, Kris Jenner with that haircut.
Grace O'Malley
Kris Jenner was just told that she's no longer allowed to have the haircut that she was once using because it is Liza Minnelli's haircut. Is that a secret that I'm not Supposed to share.
Unknown Guest
Oh, it's patented.
Grace O'Malley
Well, did someone tell me that as a secret? Oh, that's online. Okay. I thought that was an inside scoop from One World Network. No. Okay, good. All right. I never know if I'm spilling beans.
Unknown Guest
No, but that sounds like, you know. Yeah, so.
Grace O'Malley
So she switched it up.
Unknown Guest
She switched it up and someone told her. Was it, like, a law thing?
Grace O'Malley
I think it was the hairdresser herself, because Liza was pissed.
Unknown Guest
I see.
Grace O'Malley
I do believe I. I could be making shit up.
Unknown Guest
She's had that.
Grace O'Malley
But that sounds fun.
Unknown Guest
I mean, Kris Jenner's had that hair for a long time. Yeah, but sometimes that's how iconic Liza is, that she just turned on the TV and was like, excuse me, pardon me, miss.
Grace O'Malley
How long we're gonna have to make her change? She made some calls and she literally changed her hair. Would you ever make someone change their hair if they got the same haircut as you?
Unknown Guest
The thing is, I'm. You know, this is a haircut most Asian children have, and a lot of children, I think, internationally, are forced to get. Right. And so I would have to. Oh, my gosh. I would have to sue children.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
And that's not.
Grace O'Malley
It's a slippery slope.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. You know, I'm. I'm. I. I kind of. You know, comedy is a cult. It's not. It wasn't just Singapore. It's multiple locations where my fans have showed up in wigs of my haircut. And.
Grace O'Malley
How does that make you feel? Do you like that too?
Unknown Guest
Too much. I had to calm myself down. I was like, no, no. This is how Jonestown. Jonestown started. You know what I mean? What is this feeling?
Grace O'Malley
You know?
Unknown Guest
I am leader. Oh.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, I see what's happening. I'm God.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. Or, you know, it's about wanting to feel seen. Right. And that's why I started comedy. And so it's cool that, like, we get to do that, like, in a physical level, being like, I see you, you see me, you know?
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. That is really cool. I like that.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
It's a beautiful thing. Beautiful thing. My next question here is just so I know not to do it, if we were to work together, what is one thing that bothers you the most? That people do.
Unknown Guest
Oh, gosh. I. I don't know if things really bother me about people. I'm such a submissive. I'm always like, do it, do it.
Grace O'Malley
I had a feeling you didn't have a mean bone in your body, so this is why I wanted to pick your brain.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. I'm Very, like, dawn me, dummy energy. And so whatever, you know, do people bother me with the things they do?
Grace O'Malley
So other submissives would probably bother me.
Unknown Guest
You think? Because it reminds me of me.
Grace O'Malley
You would just be two people going, I don't know. Who cares? All right, sure. I don't know.
Unknown Guest
Why not?
Grace O'Malley
Okay.
Unknown Guest
Nothing gets done.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. It's just like.
Unknown Guest
That's true. Maybe I'll be like, oh, well, someone needs to make a decision.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, I wouldn't be able to.
Unknown Guest
Right.
Grace O'Malley
I'm learning. I'm not.
Unknown Guest
Are we both submissive?
Grace O'Malley
I just keep going. I don't know. Yeah, No, I don't know. We'll just. We'll get. We'll do it. We could get. We'll get to it. Sure. So it's hard.
Unknown Guest
It's hard to make decisions. We didn't become comedians and artists so that we can be bosses or. I didn't.
Grace O'Malley
I did. I did.
Unknown Guest
I wasn't trying to be a director or a boss, tell other people what to do.
Grace O'Malley
Girl boss. Never really had a good ring to it to me. I never really wanted to be a boss.
Unknown Guest
Oh.
Grace O'Malley
Just happy to be here, really.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. I want to be a girl baby. I just want to be a girl baby.
Grace O'Malley
I want to be a baby.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. Yes.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. I think that's. I think that's fair. I think we can both agree that.
Unknown Guest
You just started talking like a baby.
Grace O'Malley
Like, baby. You started your baby.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Have you seen those AI baby podcasts?
Unknown Guest
No.
Grace O'Malley
Okay, this makes me look weird. This is not a good.
Unknown Guest
Please tell me about it.
Grace O'Malley
Okay. They're using adult voices on these. They're AI Generated babies. So it's a podcast. They're podcast clips on TikTok of these babies. We've got an example right here.
Unknown Guest
Oh, that's cool. Okay.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
I was gonna say we need to. AI needs to be stopped. We need to cancel them now. I did not know it looked like that. Yeah, like an actual baby.
Grace O'Malley
I still. It's a cartoon. But your grandmother probably wouldn't be able to tell.
Unknown Guest
Oh, yeah, no, she would. She can barely tell. My husband is white, and my grandma has known him for 10 years. But I could be showing her a picture of, like, Harry Styles or something.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
And she will still think it's Ryan. She will. She cannot already tell that. You know what I mean to her? She's like, oh, that's a cute picture of Ryan.
Grace O'Malley
So you're dating Harry Styles and your grandmother's hat. That's really. That's kind of cool.
Unknown Guest
No, she thinks that's Ryan. Harry Styles doesn't exist to her. Does that make sense? Wow. Ryan changed his eyes for her. There's one white man in the world and it's Ryan.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
You know what I mean?
Grace O'Malley
Well, it's kind of. That's kind of nice. He is the representative in her eyes.
Unknown Guest
Oh, the pressure on him, right?
Grace O'Malley
Well, yeah. Then he has to stand for all. All whites.
Unknown Guest
Oh.
Grace O'Malley
Not all whites are created equal. I'll say that to her.
Unknown Guest
He is president. He is you. I'm doing a podcast with Ryan right now. I mean, her entire crew is Ryan. You know, the simplicity of that I respect. So, yes. She will think those are real babies. That sound like adults.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. And they're Ryan. She'll be like, excuse me, this is little white baby Ryan.
Unknown Guest
Excuse me. Wow. He's everywhere. Yeah. It must be overwhelming, but also very calming at the same time.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
You know, because you know what's overwhelming? Learning new names.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, my goodness.
Unknown Guest
Not if everyone's Ryan.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, my goodness. It is. It is. It sure is tough.
Unknown Guest
I almost, you know, how many. Sorry.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, no, go ahead.
Unknown Guest
Speaking of Ryan's. Yes. At the Dublin airport, I lost my husband. Okay.
Grace O'Malley
To Ryanair.
Unknown Guest
That would be too much. I would be like, okay, all right. This is a movie.
Grace O'Malley
There's an Airbus full of Ryan on air.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my God. I was screaming for his name at the airport. When I say 40 people turned their heads, I was like, ryan, Ryan. All of them. They were like, yes.
Grace O'Malley
I was like, that sounds like Black Mirror, honestly. Hello.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. It's so wild. But I love the Ryan's. I love the Irish.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, thank you very much. Thank you.
Unknown Guest
Kindred spirits. Cousins.
Grace O'Malley
Cousins, yes, of course. And, you know, we. Two peas in a pod, really.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Literally.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. Two pieces. Because there's two of us. Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
And we're doing a podcast.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my God. Is that not. Did you ever think that that could be the podcast title?
Grace O'Malley
Two Piece in a Pod?
Unknown Guest
Since you're looking for a co host.
Grace O'Malley
That'S actually a really great and refreshing idea. I like that. Is it too rebrand?
Unknown Guest
That's not.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, yeah, I'm sure we could.
Unknown Guest
We don't want to confuse the people, you know? Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Have you seen Amy Poehler's new podcast?
Unknown Guest
Yes. Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
It's called Good. Hang on. That's the best podcast name. If you're just gonna have your buddies on and you're just gonna be hanging out, there's nothing better than a good hang.
Unknown Guest
I know, but this is good. You putting your own name in the title is good.
Grace O'Malley
A Little narcissistic. What do you think comedy is a cult? It is.
Unknown Guest
It is true.
Grace O'Malley
I'm gonna start ordering Irish step wigs. The big curly, you know, big curly wigs. It's a. It's how big? Irish step. So Irish step is like a. Is like a type of dance in the Irish. Irish culture, if you will. And they wear like all these sparkly dresses and their hair is out to here.
Unknown Guest
I didn't know about the hair part.
Grace O'Malley
Maybe they wigs.
Unknown Guest
Oh, yes. Curly.
Grace O'Malley
Big curly. Crazy bounce around. Curls go nuts.
Unknown Guest
Yes. I think that's so cool.
Grace O'Malley
So I think I'm just going to go start buying those for. For my shops.
Unknown Guest
Like the girl in Brave.
Grace O'Malley
Like the girl in Brave. If you had a chance to change your fate, would you.
Unknown Guest
She's. Yeah, so, like, she's Scottish, though. Well, hey, you know what? Now I'm canceled.
Grace O'Malley
No, you can't be. It's white people. I have a bonus. I have a bonus final interview question for you. Have you been watching hacks at all?
Unknown Guest
Not the latest season.
Grace O'Malley
Okay, so on the latest season, they take the team out for like a bonding exercise. The. The writer team for a bonding exercise to help with their creative flow. And so if. If we were to work together, what would you suggest our team group outing would be?
Unknown Guest
Gosh, something that hits both of our interests, I feel like. Right. Well, if we're both submissives, we probably should get domed.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, right. Yeah, As a collective.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, a collective as in me and you and crew.
Grace O'Malley
With the crew. See, this is what happens in the show. It's gonna end up being an HR nightmare.
Unknown Guest
You're right. This happened to Lizzo.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, my. Well, I will say that is a slippery slope. That is the classic story I've heard from Amsterdam is the feeding the banana through the. Through the holes of. Of a Amsterdam worker.
Unknown Guest
Okay. Yes.
Grace O'Malley
Have you. Have you heard this wise tale?
Unknown Guest
Yes. Yeah, Yeah. I was. We were like, oh, yeah, probably banana next. And then banana happened. But anyway, so. Yes. Yeah, Yes.
Grace O'Malley
D. Okay, we'll all go get dumped. Domed up. D. We could go to people who want to.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, yeah.
Grace O'Malley
With DJ guys, would you want to.
Unknown Guest
Be suspended in the air? Kind of domed?
Grace O'Malley
What?
Unknown Guest
Cuz there's that. You can get suspended in the. Are you afraid of heights?
Grace O'Malley
Oh, I just. I think I'm afraid of sex.
Unknown Guest
Okay, so then this is good. This is good because. Yeah, Dom, you don't have to even have sex.
Grace O'Malley
Okay, good.
Unknown Guest
At all.
Grace O'Malley
Okay.
Unknown Guest
You can just be tied up and then left in the air.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, no.
Unknown Guest
Or not in the air.
Grace O'Malley
Am I naked?
Unknown Guest
Oh, you don't have to be too.
Grace O'Malley
Okay, good.
Unknown Guest
It's really what you want.
Grace O'Malley
Okay. So we're really just going to join the circus.
Unknown Guest
You can just be girl. Girl. We did. You did Stamtown.
Grace O'Malley
Okay. Yes, I did.
Unknown Guest
That was pretty much being domed. Oh, yes. I've done Stamtown.
Grace O'Malley
Stamp Town. Sure is.
Unknown Guest
Stamtown is a show with clowns. Right.
Grace O'Malley
I've talked about it a few times on this. On this podcast. Right, Right. Kind of. It's a reoccurring thing that I keep talking about and everyone's like, what are you guys talking about? I'm like, I say it every episode.
Unknown Guest
My only thing about following a clown on our lineup is like the floor is always wet and so, you know. And then there's like microphone wires. I don't know. Maybe that can. Is that fatal? I don't know.
Grace O'Malley
My only.
Unknown Guest
I'm slipping and sliding.
Grace O'Malley
My flaw is I had no idea what was going to happen.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, that too.
Grace O'Malley
It was the wow factor for me. And I'm so new to stand up that I was so worried about getting my jokes out to the audience. For the people there.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
That when they came out and they had a bonanza. Crazy time. The guy went streaking. Right.
Unknown Guest
Drinking beers.
Grace O'Malley
Drinking beers, drinking beers. I'm cool with that. You could be drinking beers. But yeah, the streaking and the rollerblades and everyone just chasing each other.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. Dancing threw me off a little while.
Grace O'Malley
I was doing my.
Unknown Guest
Oh, 100. But you look like you were in your element.
Grace O'Malley
I hate that you saw that. It was like. It was like the one time I've ever been on stage where I was like. I could totally cry right now.
Unknown Guest
Oh, no. I'm so sorry.
Grace O'Malley
It was supposed to be fun and crazy and silly, but I had such a serious outlook on it that night that. Cuz it was like the comedy festival and I. I didn't. You never know who's. Who's there. And then I found out you were there and I was like, my God.
Unknown Guest
What I was going to say is if you could do that, we could do a little Dom.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Sub action.
Grace O'Malley
I'd say so.
Unknown Guest
Because I feel like there's actually more control in sub Dom than what you just described, which was stamped out.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, no, I mean, you know what I mean, You.
Unknown Guest
You could be like, I don't want to be naked. I want to be fully clothed. I don't even want to be tied up. I want to just sit.
Grace O'Malley
I just want to hang on the Monkey parts.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. And they'll be like, yes. Can I say mean things to you once in a while? Sure. Call that the session? Yeah, I'll pay for it.
Grace O'Malley
All right, cool. Cash, cash, money. Cash is king, baby.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Sex scares me. Disgraceful with Grace o' Malley is brought to you by Tinder. This week on the episode, I was talking about how it was fleet week and all the sailors were coming in and I wanted to hook, line, and sink one in the nicest, most romantic way possible. And what I should have used was Tinder, but I didn't. And I was a big dummy for that. Because on Tinder, Tinder, you can find your special someone right there on the app. You never know until you know. And that's why you gotta get Tinder to find out. Maybe it turns into a great story, maybe it turns into something even better. But you'll never know until you match. So you can explore all the possibilities for yourself on Tinder. It's a good hang, you're hanging out, you get to know everyone who's on the lineup a little bit better.
Unknown Guest
Right?
Grace O'Malley
Right. So I have some rather deep but also some light hearted questions, so let's dig in. You were born to a Japanese father and a Taiwanese mother who met on a Japanese dating show in the 80s, which is. You have to make that movie. You know that, right?
Unknown Guest
But we're making. We said we're making another movie first, right? Oh, Ryan on Ryanair.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, Ryan on Ryanair. Yeah, that's a. That's a short film for Tribeca. That'll get you. That'll get you started.
Unknown Guest
It's it's 30 seconds long. It's as long as the premise. I think.
Grace O'Malley
I think it's good. It'll be great. TikTok Ryan on Ryanair.
Unknown Guest
Every Irish person is like, oh, that's just how I was conceived.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, I'm mine.
Unknown Guest
And what am I, chopped liver? That's my story too, but it's about feeling. Seen movies. Yeah. Well, so my parents actually met on a speed dating, like, event.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, okay.
Unknown Guest
My apologies confirmed. With my grandma.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, no way. Okay.
Unknown Guest
Who was like, part of setting that all up.
Grace O'Malley
So where did the other truth come from?
Unknown Guest
Well, my grandma was calling it a game show.
Grace O'Malley
Okay.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, she was like, your parents met on a game show.
Grace O'Malley
So she's trying to spice the story up. She's a comedian in herself. Little fabrication never hurt somebody.
Unknown Guest
She has a lot of energy in her brain to come up with things because she only took up a tiny space in her brain for white people. And you know what I mean, if everyone's Ryan.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Oh, the. The rest of her brain. There's so much space to do so much more.
Grace O'Malley
There's so much room to be creative.
Unknown Guest
I'm memorizing. I'm having to learn all kinds of names. Right. Like Grace, Ryan, Matthew.
Grace O'Malley
And they're all a dozen. Yeah, yeah.
Unknown Guest
Right. So she's got. Yeah, she's like, oh, game show. So she was calling it that. Also her English, you know, isn't like all there. So. Yeah, I mean, it feels like a game show. Speed dating event.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, I'd say so. Have you ever been to a speed dating event?
Unknown Guest
No, I've seen it on Love on the Spectrum, the latest season where they've done it or I think in all the seasons it features that.
Grace O'Malley
There's something beautiful that they do on theirs is they'll just write a big fat no while they're still sitting there.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
I think more people should be open and honest about that. Let's stop wasting people's time.
Unknown Guest
Totally. I mean, I was wondering if you might do that as you're interviewing me for the co host.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, yeah.
Unknown Guest
Should just do that. Yeah, yeah. We're like, oh, like two minutes in.
Grace O'Malley
I. I've been to a speeding speed dating event, but it was a. It was a nuance kind of one. It was. They were testing out this. It was like beta for this app and you filled out a form to go and you had to get selected. And so they. They selected me and my friend signed up to do it and they didn't select her. And I was like, that's so Weird. And so I still went by myself just because, you know, times are tough. And when you go there, they make you scan a QR code and then you fill out this questionnaire and then you forget about it. And then you just, you chat with everybody in the room. There's like, like equal men to women. And then at the end, your phone pings and it's got like a GPS tracker and it will. It will tell you if you move towards the arrow, you'll end up bumping into the person that you match with. Oh, wait, does that make sense?
Unknown Guest
They, like, extra gamified.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. Like, we had to get up and like, be like, oh, hey, you.
Unknown Guest
Wow.
Grace O'Malley
Is it, Is it you? Oh, match. We got the match. Because, like, you could only get your match if you, like, got close to the person.
Unknown Guest
Okay. So only if you match then do you get. Do you get told they're. Hey, they're just at the 7:11 right now. Go there.
Grace O'Malley
No, it's just the people that got picked to go to the event. So it's like the people that were at the party at the end all got matched up and like, found each other.
Unknown Guest
Oh, oh. Got matched up by the matchmaker.
Grace O'Malley
By the people. So, like, while we were all getting to know each other, the people behind the scenes were playing Matchmaker.
Unknown Guest
Okay. So that's very game show.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
And that's very like. That's not how I know speed dating to be.
Grace O'Malley
No. Yeah.
Unknown Guest
It's this. Multiple things.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, this is, this is very.
Unknown Guest
This is like. Right.
Grace O'Malley
This was a lot.
Unknown Guest
Escape Room meets Grindr. Because that's the location based thing.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Someone already invented that. Right. And then. And then like producers behind the scenes.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. And then also like the surprise factor of at the end of the night, this is who you end up with, even though you probably didn't chat with them all night.
Unknown Guest
Right. So. Oh, and also just classic matchmaking.
Grace O'Malley
Classic matchmaking, like by like analytics.
Unknown Guest
Right. Oh, wow.
Grace O'Malley
I'll tell you what, did you like it?
Unknown Guest
Did you like the person?
Grace O'Malley
We are good without AI because it was not a match. I was, I. I chatted with him for about five minutes, and then one of the girls I met that night, she looked at me, I looked at her, she looked at me, I looked at her. And we. We decided to both go to the bathroom and then leave the whole place.
Unknown Guest
Oh, wow.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. I never say goodbye.
Unknown Guest
Dang.
Grace O'Malley
And he didn't seem to mind it. He seemed to be a little coked out, this guy.
Unknown Guest
I mean, look, it's a daunting Process.
Grace O'Malley
I know.
Unknown Guest
I'm like, just do it. You know, I. I can't imagine. Yeah, so that's my. What my mom and dad went through.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, but like the old fashioned style, like the. The correct way of doing things.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, I guess so. It was very specific. My grandma signed my mom up for a speed dating event for divorcees. My mom is not. Was not a divorcee.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. But you know what? That's the cream of the crop. Those guys have already done it all and they're ready to find true love.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. I think she was like, yes, kind of. My grandma's kind of a mastermind, like a plotter. So she flew my mom and her from Taiwan to go to Japan to do this.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, just to do that.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
What a lovely family. Daughter. She really wanted her out of the house, huh?
Unknown Guest
She wanted her out of the house. She didn't have high hopes, I guess. I said, oh, it's gonna be divorcees in another country. You didn't think she could find someone in Taiwan?
Grace O'Malley
She literally shipped her own daughter off.
Unknown Guest
She was like. She saw it in the newspaper.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, wow.
Unknown Guest
She said, oh, we're doing this, you know, event in. In Shinjuku, Tokyo. And grandma said, oh, good, thank God. Let me fly.
Grace O'Malley
We gotta get these flights.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my God.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
That's a lot of investment.
Grace O'Malley
That's a lot of time spent. Yeah.
Unknown Guest
It's like. Or send her to a bar.
Grace O'Malley
I mean, they could have went. They could have went to a concert together. They could have went on a vacation. No, we gotta get you Marri.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. And so. Yeah, that's pretty crazy. That's how they met.
Grace O'Malley
I wonder how has your parents origin story, how has it shaped your idea of love, comedy and even destiny?
Unknown Guest
Wow. This is when you said sometimes it would get deep. It was that word.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. We went from doming, hanging upside down while fully clothed.
Unknown Guest
Right.
Grace O'Malley
To your parents love manifestation. You know what? We're versatile.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, we are. We are versatile. Oh, they didn't work out, by the way. I don't know if you.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, yeah. But just the. The idea and the love story of it all, even when your parents don't always work out, it does kind of shape you regardless, you know?
Unknown Guest
Right, right. Yeah. In that I had no idea of what like a marriage really looked like. My grandma's been a widow, like since she was 30, so I also. That was not a marriage that I saw. I didn't know. You know, we were mostly like three generations of women with like, no man, you know, in strong. Ryan's great we were a girl gang.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, girl gang.
Unknown Guest
Except one of us was extremely old. One of us had schizophrenia. My mom and I was a child.
Grace O'Malley
And your. Your story of meeting Ryan that. Because Ryan's mother also has or has schizophrenia. Schizophrenia. And your joke of how you guys found each other and were. You were on a date, you're like, if you care to.
Unknown Guest
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Spill the beans on that. For anyone who doesn't know, I think this is a great story and a great joke at the end of. We deserve this.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. I mean, we were on our third date with each other, and he. Before we were like, we were gonna, like, hook up. He got a phone call from his mom, and then he was like, oh, it's my mom. I have to take it. And then he's out there talking to her for, like, an hour. So I'm like, wearing my underwear.
Grace O'Malley
Time on a date.
Unknown Guest
Oh, that's a long time. When we're about to, like, start hooking up too, because my clothes were off. I was like, excuse me.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, this was. This was already back at the house.
Unknown Guest
We were in his bedroom.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. Oh, no shit.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, we were like. We were like, oh, I pictured this. Clothes were coming off. And he's like, I'm so sorry. My mom is calling. And I was like, he's like a mama.
Grace O'Malley
Are you thinking about your mom right now?
Unknown Guest
Red flag. Red flag. Right? And then I hear him singing to her, and I was like, that's weird. Are they like a singing mother and son? You know? Are they harmonizing? You know, I'm still in my underwear.
Grace O'Malley
You're in your underwear? Him and his mom are doing acapella. Excuse me, Telephone.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, I was like, I wore a thong today. Very uncomfortable. So then. But then he comes back and he's like, I'm so sorry. My mom has this thing, you know, I don't know if you've heard of it. It helps her when I sing to her. It calms her down. She has schizophrenia. And I was like, oh, my God, my mom, too. And then we had, you know, wild sex. Ah, right. Just throwing each other across her room. We deserve this, you know? Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
I'm so sorry. I literally just made you sit and tell your whole joke that you.
Unknown Guest
Oh, sweetie, I'm so sorry, sweetie. This is the job.
Grace O'Malley
But it's also. It's also just, like, a great story as well, you know, Like.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
And you. Mostly personal experiences with jokes.
Unknown Guest
Right, Right. Yes. Yeah. Sometimes I get a little absurd with, like, imagining things. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But then, you know, I Always, like, to bring it back to reality.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Cause, like, reality's already so absurd.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, of course.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. You know, just adding a little flavor never hurt anybody.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, totally.
Grace O'Malley
And my next question here is, what is your favorite game show other than your own?
Unknown Guest
The game show that is love on the spectrum. Because love, you know, like I said, real life is so absurd already, and it's already a game show. Like you said, what is the game show besides your life? Oh, so poetic. She's a poet.
Grace O'Malley
You really are.
Unknown Guest
And so I was with the words. I have been loving watching that reality show. It's a reality show, but, you know, it almost feels gamified because there are producers behind it, too. And, you know. Yeah. It makes me think about just humanity and being honest, like you said. Right. Like, the honesty. It makes me think about my mom and how honest she is. But also, you know, sometimes people who are too honest. Right.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Are deemed, like, the weirdos.
Grace O'Malley
And that. That kind of goes back to, like, I was in a green room at Moon Tower and the discussion was, aren't most comics technically autistic? Because. Because they call out the things that nobody else would. And, like, then it got into a discussion of, like, there is a spectrum. And.
Unknown Guest
Right.
Grace O'Malley
That it had a lot of people before they were about to go on stage being like, am. Am I autistic?
Unknown Guest
Everyone. Everyone was having that thought.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, it was. It was crazy to watch everyone because, like, you know, there's. It is a spectrum, you know, but.
Unknown Guest
There'S rules we have to play. Right. That society built. But it's like, oh, like, you know, like, we do have to be quiet at a library or whatever. These are rules. Right. But yeah, it's just about finding that right balance for you, because everybody is different.
Grace O'Malley
But, yeah, you saying being quiet in a library, that reminds me of. Actually, there was, like, a makeshift game show that they had on MTV when I was growing up called Silent Library.
Unknown Guest
Yes. And can I tell you who invented that? Who? My people.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, yes. Yes. Oh, yes. Yeah, I think I did know that. Yes.
Unknown Guest
Well, Japan's super known for their game shows.
Grace O'Malley
Yes, of course.
Unknown Guest
We're also so sick in the head. You know what I mean? There's a lot going on with Japan, you know? Oh, that's my people. Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
And I loved that show. That show rocks.
Unknown Guest
Right? Silent Library. Yeah. So it was invented there or like cake or not cake or what is it? Is it cake?
Grace O'Malley
Is that Japanese?
Unknown Guest
Is based on a Japanese game show, too. Yeah. Where they're like, is this a shoe? But you have to put everything in your mouth. So there's like grown adults like trying like putting a whole shoe in their mouth and they have to bite down on it.
Grace O'Malley
I think we should.
Unknown Guest
Sometimes it's just a shoe.
Grace O'Malley
I think we should make Mikey date. Put it in his mouth. Oh, yeah, he's just using a knife. He's actually getting away with it.
Unknown Guest
And he's chopping it. He chops the cakes wild.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, he does.
Unknown Guest
It's a little violent.
Grace O'Malley
Somebody was telling me that like a lot of celebrities are like begging to go on that show because their kids love it, which is really funny to me.
Unknown Guest
Oh, sweetie. Yeah, I'm very childless, so I don't. I'm like, yeah, I would be like, oh, my kids really want me to be on this show.
Grace O'Malley
But it's.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my kids love you.
Grace O'Malley
Just bring a baby doll with you.
Unknown Guest
That's my excuse when I'm at trade. Yeah, that's my excuse at Ralph's when I'm like buying way too many uncrustable PB and J's.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, well, those are delicious.
Unknown Guest
My kids love these things.
Grace O'Malley
That actually, that brings me to a question I have here. Your tour was called the Full Grown Tour. And I know you do a lot of jokes about like you're not really fully an adult and like you have your jokes on, on marriage, married people and how their childlike. But what did Full Grown mean to you when you chose that name?
Unknown Guest
Yeah, I think it's that whole idea of like what is normal, right. We're all like deemed outsiders or weirdos if we don't play by the rules of society, you know, or if you're too honest or you know, if you do rock a bowl cut. And that's like lame to a lot of people. You know, I still get trolls comments sometimes.
Grace O'Malley
Well, those are motherfuckers.
Unknown Guest
And it's mostly American men.
Grace O'Malley
Oh yeah.
Unknown Guest
Because I don't think they grew up with this. Like I'm telling you, everyone in Asia, if you go to Asia right now, there's. You'll bump into like hundreds of me's. They're all babies.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
But you'll still run into them, you know what I mean?
Grace O'Malley
Trying to keep a youthful spirit.
Unknown Guest
And also it's.
Grace O'Malley
And it's awesome. And it's iconic. It's your. Yes. And it's. And it's you, you know, but they don't get it.
Unknown Guest
It's always the same thing. Is it a boy or girl? Are you a boy or a girl? Right, cuz. Girl, long hair.
Grace O'Malley
Boy, short hair.
Unknown Guest
Don't you get near my butt. You know, it's always the same.
Grace O'Malley
Who are you running into? These people sound insane.
Unknown Guest
Oh, the Internet is free, sweetie. Allowed. And when anyone's allowed, things like that happen.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
But, you know, the whole thing is like, you know, we can be so hard on ourselves because it's like, I'm an adult. I should already know this.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
I should know how to do this paperwork. Be easy on yourself, you know, because, like, truly, we. None of us were prepped for it, including our parents. Yeah. They're doing it out there. Meeting on speed dating. Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Flying to different countries or game shows.
Unknown Guest
Or reality shows or Mike Case.
Grace O'Malley
Sleeping in separate beds.
Unknown Guest
Sleeping in separate. That's your parents. And respect.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, one's a bed, one's a couch. You know, someone got the end of that stick.
Unknown Guest
Always respect and appreciate people who know the boundaries.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. Yeah.
Unknown Guest
And so, you know, it's. Yeah, that's. That's what that's about is like. It's sort of like a sarcastic comment that, like, oh, I'm fully grown.
Grace O'Malley
No.
Unknown Guest
No notes needed. No. No more work needed. Yeah. Because it's like that. We gotta be easy on ourselves.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. 100%.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
And I. I'm a big advocate. This is something I've been doing as a. As my front. My front frontal. My frontal lobe.
Unknown Guest
Frontal lobe was supposed to develop. I think I was gonna guess lobe.
Grace O'Malley
Halfway there. I don't know if it ever made, like, full completion, but this is like.
Unknown Guest
Your own sort of like, guess.
Grace O'Malley
They say around 26. 25 to 26 for women is when you're supposed to be fully developed on your frontal lobe.
Unknown Guest
Fully frontal.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. And no frontal. No frontal nudity.
Unknown Guest
Okay. So you supposed to. Only partial.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, only partial. Actually, I prefer clothes on.
Unknown Guest
That's right. We know you. I know this about you.
Grace O'Malley
Yes.
Unknown Guest
At 26, you're supposed to be fully developed, whatever that means.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. And so I. As. I've. As I've, like, gotten that. I've. I've realized that you could ask questions like when you don't know when something. What something means. It's. You're not stupid for asking questions. Like, we're all just figuring this out. Like, for the longest time, I would always try to pretend I knew what people were talking about. And then I was like. Like, actually, I would love the definition on that. What is the def. Because I was doing a podcast yesterday and someone said a. A fantastic big word. And I said, I'm gonna need the definition on that, please. And thank you. And they were like, oh, yeah, of course. Happy to. Happy to share. And a lot of the times they.
Unknown Guest
Don'T know it either. Right.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
No, that's so true.
Grace O'Malley
So we're all just. We're all just faking it, really. It's. It's kind of beautiful in that sense.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. I agree.
Grace O'Malley
Next question.
Unknown Guest
You.
Grace O'Malley
You ever so casually posted meeting your long lost brother.
Unknown Guest
Oh, right, right.
Grace O'Malley
What was that like?
Unknown Guest
I'm like, sweetie, my family. My dad's both sides. It's like the Karamo talk show. Every time I go back to Japan, I meet a new sibling.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, shit. Really?
Unknown Guest
I swear.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, wow.
Unknown Guest
Cause my dad's always like, oh, yeah, by the way, you know, I did that one time, you know, every single time. So this time. Well, I knew I had this oldest brother, but he didn't know about me. And so he had, you know, he was separated from my dad. He's from my dad's first marriage.
Grace O'Malley
Okay.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. My dad's, you know, is a. My dad is a hopeless romantic. He keeps trying, you know, his first wife, who is my brother's mother.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
She left my dad for her tea ceremony instructor.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, lovely.
Unknown Guest
Which is.
Grace O'Malley
He really wined and dined her.
Unknown Guest
Very Japanese. Very Japanese. Like a matcha tea ceremony. And I was like, how hot was this tea ceremony instructor?
Grace O'Malley
Right?
Unknown Guest
I mean. Cause they just like pour tea.
Grace O'Malley
Everyone's got an art.
Unknown Guest
I guess. So. Yeah. It was so scandalous. So she left my dad and took with her her favorite son. Oh, my brother. And so by the time my dad met my mom so she could pick favorites and had me. Yeah, she. She picked favorites. She left two other kids with my dad.
Grace O'Malley
Okay.
Unknown Guest
That's why, you know, I was never gonna meet this brother.
Grace O'Malley
But then he. He found out you're doing pretty well, and he.
Unknown Guest
I wonder. I don't know. No, he. He reached out to my dad first.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, okay.
Unknown Guest
Cause he said. Said, oh, I figured dad is old by now. Maybe he's gonna die soon, so I should go see him.
Grace O'Malley
Okay.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. I was like, yes. Keep it blunt.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Be blonde.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Very blonde.
Grace O'Malley
Great to see you. I hope you don't croak anytime soon. Glad we did this.
Unknown Guest
I'm here because I thought you were gonna die.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
And it's true. He is older, so. So then, you know, that's. And it happened to be. I was going to Japan too that month. I was like, let's all meet up.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, that's great. I love that. So what do you guys do together?
Unknown Guest
We went just.
Grace O'Malley
That Day that you shared or it is anything off camera. Okay.
Unknown Guest
It is just that day. I. I'm unhinged. You know, I thrive in chaos.
Grace O'Malley
As they said. You're unhinged. I'm like, you have a husband.
Unknown Guest
Hey, but, you know, what's that mean?
Grace O'Malley
Hey, no, you know what? I'm fair with that Game with that. Down with anything.
Unknown Guest
Isn't there also like, Hinge BFF or something?
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, Bumble bff.
Unknown Guest
Oh, Bumble bff. Right. Where people try to find friends.
Grace O'Malley
It's great for people moving to a new city.
Unknown Guest
Yes.
Grace O'Malley
And although I wouldn't personally use it, I have suggested it to my sister to use it and. And then she's like, well, would you use it? And I'm like, well, no, but it is good to meet people. I don't know. I hear successes.
Unknown Guest
Right. But I also hear it's sometimes really hard, too. Harder than dating.
Grace O'Malley
Unstigmatize it. Because it's a great tool for meeting people. If you don't have like a. A place to meet.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my gosh. That's something I talk about in my hour too. That's in my special or the full grown tour is how do you make friends as an adult? You know, it's like such a big topic. I even. I think it's more important of a topic than finding love.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, yeah. 100%.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
I strongly care more about having great friendships rather than the one person. That's just me, though.
Unknown Guest
Oh, you can live a whole life with not finding. Had romantic love, but you can't do it without friends. No, I'm just saying. You know what I mean?
Grace O'Malley
I'm scared and sad.
Unknown Guest
Oh, you can do romantic love. I'm just saying, you know, like, it's almost. They make so many rom coms. Movies about finding romantic love.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
But I'm like, where's the friendship stories? Truly, I want that.
Grace O'Malley
I like that. I think it's. I think it's better because you. I feel like your friends know you better than anyone else because you go to. You even go to your friends to talk about your significant other.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, totally.
Grace O'Malley
You know?
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
And they're the only ones that know those secrets.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. But it was easier to make friends as a kid.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Because you could just be like, what's your favorite color?
Grace O'Malley
It's so easy. Like, do you like sandcastles?
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Me too.
Unknown Guest
Anyone who sits next to you, that's your new friend.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
As an adult, it's like, you know, we're all like, we're. We're Pickier. Which is good because anyone is welcome is not good. Like I said with the comments on YouTube.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, yeah. Those guys. Yeah.
Unknown Guest
You know what I mean?
Grace O'Malley
Those are bad guys.
Unknown Guest
And so, yeah, it's like, okay, now we have to find a common enemy. You know, that really is a good way to.
Grace O'Malley
That's a big one. I like that one.
Unknown Guest
Beautiful way to find friends as an adult. Common enemy can be a long line. It doesn't have to be a person.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
You know, it could be just like, hey, how. You know.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
How long have you been in line? Whatever it is, these guys. Yeah. Yeah. Well, because. Yeah. Blood and blood family. You really can't help, too.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
And so that's why people do have chosen families. But I ended up really getting along with my brother.
Grace O'Malley
That was really nice. Do you guys keep in touch?
Unknown Guest
We do, yeah. Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
And when you say that every once in a while, you'll find out about a. A new sibling, is that. Are you kid. Are you joking around or is this a new.
Unknown Guest
I'm joking that it's a new fact that I find out about my. My family all the time. It was on this American Life, talking about how my grandfather, Grandma kidnapped me from my dad. I also joke that, like, you don't want to ever be on this American life, because if you end up being a person, you know, with a story worthy enough to be on this American life, that's bad. That means your life was bad. Oh, you know?
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Like, not in a serious way, but.
Grace O'Malley
You know, I mean. Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Just like, you don't want to be an inspiration.
Grace O'Malley
Why not?
Unknown Guest
That's how we know who Malala is.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, yes.
Unknown Guest
You know what I mean? You never want to make it on the news.
Grace O'Malley
No, you don't.
Unknown Guest
You want to be just, like, chill. I just want to live a life where I'm simple. Just sit on a couch, eat chips.
Grace O'Malley
It's too bad that you have to go through the hardships.
Unknown Guest
You're an inspiration. That's not good.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
You know, that means someone fucked up.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. That's so true.
Unknown Guest
So, you know, it's like facts like that I went to Japan to. For this piece, for this American Life, asking my dad what really happened. And then because I was too afraid to ask in the past, and so I found out my grandma did technically kidnap me from him.
Grace O'Malley
And so you decided you'll get the answer out of him as long as you. You put cameras in front of his face.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my God. It's the only way I know how to do things.
Grace O'Malley
I know I get that.
Unknown Guest
If no one's recording, then what's the point? Then I don't need to. I'll just repress everything. I'll just rep. I don't need to know if my grandma really kidnapped me.
Grace O'Malley
It is pretty wild. Like, I don't know if I'd ever tell the truth in therapy, but I. I kind of use this as therapy, you know?
Unknown Guest
Right, right. Because there's an audience.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
And they're like, well, now I better.
Grace O'Malley
Like, I've got it off my chest and.
Unknown Guest
And be entertaining.
Grace O'Malley
I'll yell back, totally, totally. It's kind of good.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my gosh.
Grace O'Malley
It's like New age journaling, but everyone sees and reads it.
Unknown Guest
Totally, totally. I did think it was funny, though, when I asked my grandma about it. Finally, 25 years later, did you kidnap me? She said, yes. And she goes, but I didn't ask for ransom. And I said, right.
Grace O'Malley
Yes.
Unknown Guest
Right. You were bad at it.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Yes. Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
But you're. So you guys ended up moving in with your uncle. Correct. And you guys had, like, a good community when you. When you got there that he built for you guys?
Unknown Guest
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Grace O'Malley
And so. And did you have, like, a lot of cousins or.
Unknown Guest
No? No, my family's very small. That's why I'm always, like, calling, looking for other. Looking for cousins where I met you. Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
You know the Rihanna song Found love in a hopeless place. We found cousins in Austin, Texas.
Unknown Guest
Oh, truly a beautiful song and also a hopeless place. Also very unhinged at one part in the song. Song. Remember when songs used to be, like, so pretty? It's, like, so melodic. Yeah. And then it just goes.
Grace O'Malley
That's my favorite. I. I love you.
Unknown Guest
Like that.
Grace O'Malley
I'll listen to that kind of music before going on stage.
Unknown Guest
Oh, yeah. Gets you pumped. Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Like, she's like, you're already kind of stressed out. Why are you adding, like, stressful music to it? I'm like.
Unknown Guest
No. Chaos cancels out chaos, I'd say.
Grace O'Malley
So what's your prep for. For your shows? Do you have a routine or things you do?
Unknown Guest
I. Oh, gosh. More and more. Less. But I do love listening to the audience, listening to, like, enjoying the playlist I put together for them.
Grace O'Malley
I love. I love my playlist too, that I have people walk into.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. And I love hearing them, like, chatting with each other before the show. Yeah. So that's nice.
Grace O'Malley
What's your. What's your walkout song?
Unknown Guest
It changes. Right now it's this dance hall song, but during the summer. Yeah. Last summer, it Was, you know, to 360 of summer.
Grace O'Malley
We actually had the same song. That's crazy.
Unknown Guest
Yes. I mean internationally, sweetie. It was. Everyone was Brad Summer.
Grace O'Malley
Everyone was Brett Summer. Oh.
Unknown Guest
I was even touring in Australia and New Zealand at that time where it was winter. It was Brett Winter there. Oh, okay.
Grace O'Malley
And they were parading out. Those guys go down there.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
They go crazy.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. And they were like. Yeah. And so I was in the Philippines. It was brat summer.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, hell yeah.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
What was the most surprising country turnout?
Unknown Guest
Oh, my gosh. Jakarta, Indonesia. They were really lit. They were the most lively audience I've ever performed for.
Grace O'Malley
That's awesome. And then would they lock in when it was time to lock in, or was it kind of just a 247 party?
Unknown Guest
They would lock in, but sometimes they would be like, ah, like laughing before I even get to the punchline. So I had to be like, hey.
Grace O'Malley
Y' all, I will tell. And then you laugh.
Unknown Guest
Just be stand up.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
You know what I mean?
Grace O'Malley
But, you know, stand up, you sit down.
Unknown Guest
Right, right, right. And like, you know, we gotta hear the whole thing. Right. There's a whole hour of this. We're five minutes in. It's cool. I'm touring in places where stand up comedy is still newer. In some places, it's. It's really cool to see how global English speaking standup comedy has become.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
And you know, I really speak to like a global audience just. Just because I'm from three different countries, you know, and I don't use difficult words like you were saying.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
I think it's important to connect most of all, you know, if you're using difficult words for the sake of it. I don't actually think that makes you a smarter person because a smarter person would try to connect with as many people as possible. I think.
Grace O'Malley
I think that's a great take. Yeah. 100%.
Unknown Guest
Some philosophers said this. They actually like, you know, the smartest people or the highest IQ people actually use the simplest words. Get to the point.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. Get there quicker.
Unknown Guest
That's what comedians have to do, you know, economy of words. And our jokes.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. You gotta pick and choose which. Which work, which don't and what needs, what's unnecessary.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. Because the point is to get them to get it.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Not confuse them.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Some people do do that.
Grace O'Malley
That's true. I guess. It's just different style.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
You get to pick your adventure of which comedians you want to go see. Which is kind of cool too, right?
Unknown Guest
Totally, totally. That's true. Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
My next question for You. Here is what is the most memorable hashtag drop challenge you ever saw. Were there any celebrities that did it that surprised you?
Unknown Guest
Oh, gosh. For the drop challenge, that was, gosh, 2022 now.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
I think 2022 is when you started the drop challenge. I did, yeah. Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
We'll insert a few examples here.
Unknown Guest
Gosh. I mean, Serena Williams did it. Kerry Washington. My favorite ones were, like, nurses and stuff.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, I saw the coffee shop go down. That was, that was pretty funny.
Unknown Guest
My favorite were, like, there was, like, a, like a fisherman in. Gosh, I don't know where. Ghana.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, no shit.
Unknown Guest
You know what I mean? Just doing it on his boat.
Grace O'Malley
It's so awkward.
Unknown Guest
And try not to, like, fall over.
Grace O'Malley
Talk about connecting the whole world on one thing. Whether it's a drop challenge or comedy, you're doing it.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. I think that's why I got into performing was to, like, try to, you know, make the gaps go away. It's to connect, you know, people. Yeah, yeah.
Grace O'Malley
You've said you're really into Janet Jackson. If you could open for any musician, who would you open for?
Unknown Guest
Opening for a musician. Oh, gosh. I love a lot of musicians, but I also, I'm such. I got. I have, like, a little producer brain. I get kind of nerdy about comedy and so, so I'm like, I want to make the comedy make sense for the musician, too. You know what I mean? I can't just be like Charlie Xex. But then it's like the comedy has to make. I think my comedy would make sense for Charlie.
Grace O'Malley
I was going to say, I think you guys would align. That'd be good stuff.
Unknown Guest
It would be Charlie and.
Grace O'Malley
But you wouldn't want to do, like, a country singer or something that would, that just wouldn't mix, you know?
Unknown Guest
No.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, sorry. Yeah, no, yeah, no, I hear you.
Unknown Guest
Is this a trick?
Grace O'Malley
No, there's no tricks here. No country music? No, thank you.
Unknown Guest
I mean, country is great. I, I, I just don't listen to country.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, no, it's totally fair.
Unknown Guest
Do you see how scared I am when I say that?
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. No. Why?
Unknown Guest
It's the demo, to be honest.
Grace O'Malley
Yes. What's the best concert you've ever been to?
Unknown Guest
I only really recently started going to more, so I went to. Oh, gosh. In my life, I've only gone to, like, four. Oh, no, one was Bright Eyes because you tried to impress your boyfriend when you were 18.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, of course.
Unknown Guest
And then I went to a Snoop Dogg Red Hot Chili Peppers concert.
Grace O'Malley
That's a crazy collaboration.
Unknown Guest
That I love to be a part of their friends.
Grace O'Malley
That is sick.
Unknown Guest
They hang out, they talk. What do they talk about? Weed, I guess. I feel like a couple of the Red Hot Chili Peppers maybe are sober.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. They've had their.
Unknown Guest
Right.
Grace O'Malley
They've had their fun.
Unknown Guest
Maybe they talk about their past.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, baby.
Unknown Guest
I don't know.
Grace O'Malley
I. California. Sober.
Unknown Guest
You know, it was a fundraiser for Snoop Dogg's son's, like, football team. I feel like he could have wanted that money. It was the Hollywood Bowl. I really feel like he could have. Check. I said, you need the entire Hollywood Bowl.
Grace O'Malley
I just. I just drove by one of his dispensaries. I think he's gonna be all right.
Unknown Guest
But it was the feeling and the collaboration.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
No, it's a century.
Grace O'Malley
Anything to come together for the kids, I suppose.
Unknown Guest
Yes. And so that was cool. I. I saw the Sweat tour with Troy, Savon, and Charlie. Yeah. Oh, my God, that's so awesome. That was really. I. I loved that collab.
Grace O'Malley
It was incredible. It was so good.
Unknown Guest
That was probably my favorite.
Grace O'Malley
I loved that.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. I went to see Beyonce, too, and just recently. Not Cowboy Carter.
Grace O'Malley
Okay.
Unknown Guest
I know. That's more country.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. You're not going there.
Unknown Guest
Oh, no. But I'll support. That's a different album because it's Beyonce. Her last one. Renaissance.
Grace O'Malley
Yes. Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
How was that?
Unknown Guest
It was great, too.
Grace O'Malley
Hell, yeah.
Unknown Guest
It's. It's a longer concert. You know, it's like three and a half.
Grace O'Malley
Half.
Unknown Guest
It's a true performance.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, too much for you?
Unknown Guest
Because Sweat Tour is, like, two hours, tops.
Grace O'Malley
I could. I could have done Sweat Tour all night long. Yeah, I could have.
Unknown Guest
I could have ripped that.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, my God.
Unknown Guest
Remember when Obama said that 360 remix. 365.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Was on his playlist.
Grace O'Malley
Summer playlist. I look forward to a summer playlist every year.
Unknown Guest
Sweetie. I said, your interns are blackmailing you.
Grace O'Malley
I think what it is there. I think it's like whoever's running his Spotify account, it's. I think it's so funny that that's, like that thing that we wait for from Obama every year. But whoever's running that, it's like. Oh, yeah, no, he's. He's with the kids.
Unknown Guest
You know that Remix, is it365?365.365. Arguably the most unhinged song ever. Right, right. It's just like.360 party girl.365. Barack Obama is just sitting there being like. Just like, trying to chill out the.365. Party girl, party girl. It's, it's wild. It's in, in like.
Grace O'Malley
Can we do a little key? Can we do a line?
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, Mr. Obama.
Unknown Guest
I was like, no, no, no. Your team was trying to screw you over.
Grace O'Malley
Which artist are you listening to right now?
Unknown Guest
I have Troye Sivan on here. Oh, some Robert Smith, Crystal Castles. Some classic Ariana Meg, Thee Stallion. You know, some dancehall. I love dancehall. Shakira, Chapel, Dochi.
Grace O'Malley
These are great. The Yay. Yes, yes. The. Yeah, yeah, yes. I haven't heard the Yaya in a little bit, so.
Unknown Guest
Right. Yeah. Similar haircut.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Unknown Guest
Am I exed from being a co host? Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, no, we're not, we're not there yet. Not so fast. What's your first memory of making people laugh?
Unknown Guest
My first memory of making someone laugh, it was in the seventh grade. That's a. Like a. Some people, like I was making people laugh at too.
Grace O'Malley
No, before that. You were just very serious.
Unknown Guest
Oh my gosh.
Grace O'Malley
Jokes. No jokes. But then the first day of seventh grade, you're like, you know what? I'm. I'm going to try to make people laugh.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. I think. Cuz I, you know, I was also moving around a lot.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Mom with schizophrenia. You know, I kept trying to make it light. That's why, to be honest, when you were like, oh, so when you moved with your uncle, there was a community, right. I was like, yeah, we were living in a garage. You know, I was a very quiet kid. You know, I was taking in a lot. Right. And like, I wasn't, you know, I, But I was very observant. And I think, you know, in comedy and standup you do have to be very observant because you're calling out the elephant in the room. Right. Do you also feel this way? You know, that's what standup comedy is, right. When you set a punchline, that's what it is. And the audience laughs. Cause they go, oh my God. I also feel that way. I thought it was just me, you know, that connection of feeling seen. And so in the seventh grade, I had had this teacher who was always talking about her boyfriend of 18 years. 18, you know, oh, I love him. We're in love, right?
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
But in my head I was like, who is this loser? Not her. The boy who will not commit to my teacher in seventh grade.
Grace O'Malley
You're like, I already know better.
Unknown Guest
I already didn't like him. Because she was like, oh, he's gonna, you know, we have 18 years. You know, she's always doing things for him.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. She sounds really super sad. Yeah.
Unknown Guest
And then so one day, she didn't show up to class. We had a substitute, and someone in class goes, Ms. Nash has gotten off and got married. And I said, he hasn't proposed in 18 years. You think he's gonna propose now? Or I said something like that, and the whole class laughed.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, that's so cool.
Unknown Guest
Because it called out something that I think we all were worried about. And we were all thinking, and I was like, oh, I think that's when I realized, oh, that's how comedy works. Or stand up. You know, you call it the unspoken thing.
Grace O'Malley
And then everyone is able to relate. And you're like, oh, wow, okay. I did something with that. That was. That was good.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. And I was kind of like, girl power. We stand with Ms. Nash.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
When he. When she comes back, she's gonna dump his ass.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. We're gonna have to sit her down and tell her what's going on here.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, sweetie.
Grace O'Malley
She has the whole class proposed to her just to show how easy it is.
Unknown Guest
Yes, exactly.
Grace O'Malley
I love that story. When I saw you at moon tower, every single outfit you you've had on, even today, is just unbelievable. Really incredible fashion taste. I think it's amazing. And so I'd like to ask you right now, if you were to describe your style as a movie, what movie would that be?
Unknown Guest
Gosh. This is why she gets paid the big bucks. Because, you know, I would think. Oh, I know where the question's going.
Grace O'Malley
Yes.
Unknown Guest
Surprise movie.
Grace O'Malley
Describe it as a movie.
Unknown Guest
Just googling for the question. Movies.
Grace O'Malley
Movies. To describe fashion. Oh. Travel. Wears Prada.
Unknown Guest
Top 10 movies, America.
Grace O'Malley
Or how would you describe your style in three words?
Unknown Guest
Avatar.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, perfect. Thank you very much.
Unknown Guest
Way of water.
Grace O'Malley
Very good. In. In 2017, you got married to your now husband, Ryan, of course. Yet there was an oopsie dupes. There was a little bit of a mistake. The papers were never fought.
Unknown Guest
Yes. Because being an adult is hard. No one taught us.
Grace O'Malley
So did you. Did you make him repropose?
Unknown Guest
No, no, no, no. We had to go bring two people who were at the wedding, though. We had to rush back to the registrar county office and bring two witnesses who were at the wedding so that to say yes. We already watched these dumb dumbs say I do. We brought my grandma and a friend. They were very mad.
Grace O'Malley
They were mad.
Unknown Guest
Well. Cause. Well, it was like Nora walk or somewhere far. We had to drive somewhere far.
Grace O'Malley
Okay.
Unknown Guest
And it's like, we already went to your wedding.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. Well, it's a real trip. For years Ago, Officiating, love. Why can't you look at it that way?
Unknown Guest
Because two losers forgot to turn in paperwork. We were like, what? What do you mean we're not married?
Grace O'Malley
Who told you you weren't married?
Unknown Guest
I wear a white ring. What do you mean?
Grace O'Malley
I totally. We. We did that.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. We're very childlike. It's like, for us, it was like our marriage was based on a high five.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
You know what I mean? What do you mean? We had a wedding. Yeah, you're like, the paperwork.
Grace O'Malley
The paperwork fold. You were supposed to do that.
Unknown Guest
Paperwork. What paperwork?
Grace O'Malley
So who told you you weren't married? How did you figure that out?
Unknown Guest
I was trying to put Ryan, my husband, on my health insurance.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, okay.
Unknown Guest
And then. Because you could get your spouse on your health insurance. Health insurance is new to me too, by the way.
Grace O'Malley
Yes.
Unknown Guest
It was like, SAG health insurance. And they're like, you can put your spouse on there. Great.
Grace O'Malley
Okay. Big deal.
Unknown Guest
He needs health insurance. So then I was trying to do it, and they were like, we need record of you have. That you're married. We're like, of course we have record of us having been. Yes, we're married.
Grace O'Malley
We so married. It's.
Unknown Guest
Which Instagram picture do you want? Yeah, you know, here, sweetie, pull up the pictures. Like, no, no, we need the paperwork.
Grace O'Malley
We go, I brought the wedding album.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. Do you want to see my ring? You want to see footage of me calling him my husband and my stand up act?
Grace O'Malley
And so, I mean, these all solidifiers to me personally.
Unknown Guest
Oh, trust me. I tried to send all these in. They were like, no, the paper.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
And we were like, paper, We? Yes, paper. It was like, we. We can't find the paper. But it's in the. It should be in the files.
Grace O'Malley
He wrote me a love note.
Unknown Guest
Sign in the files. And then my husband's brother, who's an actual adult, he's a. Actually an attorney.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, wow. So that's. That's buttoned up adults.
Unknown Guest
He got on the phone, he was like, I'll talk to the city hall for you. City of Los Angeles. Yeah. And so he gets on the phone with like Nancy or something, and then they call us. And my brother in law is like, nancy, will you please tell my sister in law and my brother what you just told me? And she goes, oh, yeah, y' all aren't married.
Grace O'Malley
That's so funny.
Unknown Guest
She goes, there's no record of you ever having got married. Oh, wow. This is. I was like, what do you mean? It's been seven years. We've been filing our taxes as married.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, is that a big problem?
Unknown Guest
I don't. I didn't even actually know what that meant. Yeah, my husband's the one that said that, so I'm just repeating what he said. Yeah, and based on your response, it looks like it probably was a bad thing.
Grace O'Malley
I think. Yeah, I don't think that was probably a great. I've heard horror stories, baby.
Unknown Guest
So we're just. Baby, no. So when we went to the registrar county office, we just paid like a hundred dollars or something. They said, we'll post date our marriage. And I guess that means that all the times we filed as married and we weren't, they can undo that or something.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, okay. Interesting.
Unknown Guest
I don't know. Isn't that wild?
Grace O'Malley
That is wild. Seven years of unsolidified love and marriage.
Unknown Guest
We were just boyfriend and girlfriend this whole time.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, we were.
Unknown Guest
Ms. Nash and her boyfriend.
Grace O'Malley
Do your fucking job, guys. These people are trying to be married for seven whole years.
Unknown Guest
Do your job. Do you. Oh, I think it was our job. I think we were supposed to just sign that paper. It was us. Oh, we were supposed to turn something in. Oh, sweetie. It was us.
Grace O'Malley
I thought. I thought someone didn't file it.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, yeah, we didn't.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, gotcha. Okay, that's my bad. That's my bad. No, you're fine. You're fine.
Unknown Guest
That's why everything's silly. That's why everything's silly. And that, like, it's all these rules. Meanwhile, gay people were trying to fight for the right to be married for so long, know, and it's just paper. It's all silly. It's all paperwork.
Grace O'Malley
It's so crazy.
Unknown Guest
It's like, you know, and then for 100 bucks, straight people have been post dating their marriage because they forgot to turn in the paperwork. So just give everyone the right because everything's silly.
Grace O'Malley
I do, I do think you. You might have saved yourself a little bit. What if things. And I would never wish this on you guys, but what if things didn't work out for those seven years? You would have never had to go through the legality of it all. I kind of might try that.
Unknown Guest
Well, you mean like if we did. Oh, that's true. I'm getting a divorce. Divorced. Here's your ring back.
Grace O'Malley
Like, you're just my girlfriend.
Unknown Guest
We're just roommates. Turns out, as it turns out, this.
Grace O'Malley
Is going to be very easy.
Unknown Guest
No, it's true. It's true. Yeah, I just delete these pictures off Instagram now.
Grace O'Malley
Archive them because maybe we'll get back together.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. Archive.
Grace O'Malley
So I wanted to congratulate you on your new special, special Father.
Unknown Guest
Oh, thank you.
Grace O'Malley
Thank you. But without giving too much away, what can you tell us about the title?
Unknown Guest
Oh, yes. Father. So Full Grown Tour turned into Father. Right. And so it's all the same themes. How do you make friends as an adult? Being an adult is hard, so you might as well have fun doing it. And Father. You know, my fans call me Mother. They're like, mother, Mother. She's. She's mothering.
Grace O'Malley
That's godlike.
Unknown Guest
That's called D. But mothers have it together.
Grace O'Malley
Mm.
Unknown Guest
I'm more Father.
Grace O'Malley
Yes.
Unknown Guest
In that I'm thriving in life. But, like, I didn't know I hadn't been doing the laundry the past seven years. That was a shock. I asked my husband how to turn on the washing machine.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, wow.
Unknown Guest
That's how he realized that he had been doing the laundry.
Grace O'Malley
And that's how he found out that.
Unknown Guest
That's how I found out too.
Grace O'Malley
He's. He's the mother.
Unknown Guest
Shocked. He was like, what do you. He said, have you not been doing the laundry this whole time? I was like, no. She said, I thought you were doing it sometimes. I was like, I thought I was doing it sometimes. I really did. So the laundry kept being done. And he would think, because he just does the things. So he thinks sometimes. He was like, oh, maybe that was her too. You know what I mean?
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. No, these seven years sound like bliss for me. Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Truly.
Unknown Guest
I'm just going, oh, clean underwear again. I don't know how.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, it's like magic.
Unknown Guest
Meanwhile, he's out, out there.
Grace O'Malley
He's.
Unknown Guest
He's being wife.
Grace O'Malley
You're putting the suds in the bucket and the clothes hanging out on the line.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
So there's that title. And then I talk about reconnecting with my dad, too, again. And I deconstruct a dad joke in the end. So there's a couple reasons why it's called Father.
Grace O'Malley
I love that. Thank you. I love. I love names of specials. I think they're great because there's. There's so much more than just the name of it to people. It means a lot more. And I, I. I knew there was definitely something behind that for you, so. So thank you for sharing.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Your current tour, I, I would like to say that you're working on your new hour. Correct. Does it sadden you that you won't be using the. The past two hours of material you previously used on stage in your in your specials.
Unknown Guest
I got really sad, you know, finishing my full grown tour because I did that for two years.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Over I don't know how many shows in country countries. Yeah, yeah. All of Europe, Scandinavia's, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, you know. And so, yeah, when I finished the show in Paris. Ooh, that's the best. That was the last place I did it.
Grace O'Malley
Have a toodaloo.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my gosh. Yeah. I was like, oh, that was the last time I said those words, you know, out loud. The whole thing.
Grace O'Malley
Wow.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. But I'm very excited about it. I think it's even better than my first special.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, that's exciting.
Unknown Guest
Funny. Funny. It's just like there's a big growth and I'm very. I'm very proud of it. Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Hell yeah.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
And Hulu. Hulu. What are they calling it? Hulari. Hulu Larious. I'm loving who they have on. It's so sick to be on Hulu because Hulu. Hilarious. Who is really doing a movement right now. They have great people putting up specials.
Unknown Guest
They're really making our girls struggle here.
Grace O'Malley
Hilarious.
Unknown Guest
I know. I said, why? Because hilarious was taken. But yeah, it's. It's hilarious. Hilarious, but also on Disney plus internationally.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, hell yeah.
Unknown Guest
Okay, cool.
Grace O'Malley
Huge. That it's. It's international.
Unknown Guest
Yes.
Grace O'Malley
So all of your fans can watch that. Was that a deciding factor for you or.
Unknown Guest
For sure. Yeah, yeah. And, you know, it was very exciting. Like, they were getting a lot of, like, colleagues and friends that I also love as part of the first year of their standup slate and. Yeah. And I'm kind of a Disney adult. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Grace O'Malley
I just. I saw you recently, just went. You don't like crazy rides?
Unknown Guest
I. I don't. You know, I like. I like the rides for the story. I'm a bigger nerd than that. You know what I mean? Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
You must love Universal as well, because at Universal here, it's just.
Unknown Guest
We don't talk about other brands. No, no, no, no.
Grace O'Malley
I'm joking. Yes. Okay. Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Wait, I was like, no, no, I love Universal.
Grace O'Malley
Have against the Universal. No, no, I love Universal. Big Disney heads over here. Yeah. Disney. Disney plus Hulu.
Unknown Guest
My backpack was. My backpack was Winnie the Pooh. I don't know if you saw that.
Grace O'Malley
That's awesome.
Unknown Guest
But. But yes, Universal. To any theme park. You know, I met my brother at a theme park.
Grace O'Malley
No way.
Unknown Guest
My long lost brother.
Grace O'Malley
Is that where you guys were?
Unknown Guest
Yes, we went to a Ninja Samurai theme park in Japan.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, sick. That's awesome.
Unknown Guest
Because I got nervous. I said, oh, if we're going to do something dramatic like this, I'm meeting a whole person I've never met before.
Grace O'Malley
You can't just, like, go get.
Unknown Guest
No looking into each other's eyes. No running out of things to say.
Grace O'Malley
Nope.
Unknown Guest
My Japanese isn't even that good.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, really?
Unknown Guest
He speaks no English.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, okay.
Unknown Guest
So I was like, well, we gotta go to a place where 24 7. There's. There's. There's ninja and samurai scare actors. They start chasing you. They're like fighting each other.
Grace O'Malley
That's awesome.
Unknown Guest
Every 30 minutes there's a performance. Oh, that's really cool. We will never really have to communicate.
Grace O'Malley
And if things don't really work out, you could just like, grab one of the swords.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. I could be like, what is that? A ninja? Stars.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
You know what I mean?
Grace O'Malley
And all those signs at those parks, they usually have both languages, I'd say. Right. And then you just point at things if it ever got that bad.
Unknown Guest
That's true. Yeah, yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Be able to translate.
Unknown Guest
The park was mostly like, 12 year olds and white guys who love samurai culture.
Grace O'Malley
Okay.
Unknown Guest
And then there was my family being like, this is where we'll heal because chaos meets chaos.
Grace O'Malley
Chaos. Yes, exactly.
Unknown Guest
Is normal.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, that is. That is so. I wonder what it would have been like to be a fly on the wall of, like, someone just enjoying the park, watching their kids have a blast, and then be like, did she just meet her brother for the first time?
Unknown Guest
I know. We're like, crying in the corner. Grown people. He's 50.
Grace O'Malley
I guess. My dad loves this park.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, totally. Like, what. What is it? Why are they here? That's so funny. Not dressed like samurai. Oh.
Grace O'Malley
Oh. Do you have a writer, like, things you like in your green room?
Unknown Guest
It's very simple. Yeah, yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Just like, what's on there?
Unknown Guest
Oh, some cold cuts, cheese, protein. You know, protein. Protein. Before you get up.
Grace O'Malley
Is that a. Is that a key factor? Should I be having some protein?
Unknown Guest
I do proteins. Yeah. I don't know. I. I think I'm a little. I. I was told I have a little anemia.
Grace O'Malley
Okay. Are you passing out and. No, no.
Unknown Guest
Just like, I just crave meat.
Grace O'Malley
Need meat.
Unknown Guest
Or else I have no energy.
Grace O'Malley
Y. Meat with every meal. But that was kind of like a. That was like a thing my dad put into my head. Yeah, yeah.
Unknown Guest
Like, this is a potatoes kind of guy snack.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. No.
Unknown Guest
Where's the pot roast?
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, yeah, yeah, like that. I've got like one of those. Yeah, no, yeah. Actually, you kind of Nailed it. Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Really?
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, 100%. He was like, I'm not eating this. It's more like Boston, though. So it's like, yeah, I'm not eating this. There's no. Where the. Where's the meat?
Unknown Guest
Was it.
Grace O'Malley
Was it vegan? That's the kind of dad I have. Wow.
Unknown Guest
I love hearing other people. People's family. So different than mine.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, you and your grandmother are famously close and she's often a part of your comedy. What do you think she understands about you that maybe nobody else does?
Unknown Guest
She does know me the best out of anyone. I think she knows that I really love to perform and I am a people pleaser. And so she's a people pleaser too. So we will both, you know, she subs. Yeah. Two subs. One pod.
Grace O'Malley
Two subs. One pod.
Unknown Guest
That's the situation right now.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, but that's exactly what's going on.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, my grandma's a people pleaser with me, so she'll sometimes. Yeah, I've. She's lied for me or something.
Grace O'Malley
Oh, I love that.
Unknown Guest
Yeah, that's. You need.
Grace O'Malley
You need someone in the corner line for you. Yeah, I got rapid fire this or that.
Unknown Guest
Okay. Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
So I'm going to ask you two things and then you. You pick quickly. Would you rather only speak in rhymes or only speak in rhythm? Riddles.
Unknown Guest
Riddles.
Grace O'Malley
Liquid comes out of your hands or solid comes out of your eyes.
Unknown Guest
Liquid out of my hands.
Grace O'Malley
Be followed by a faint smell of pickles or the sound of soft jazz. Only you can hear pickles. I have to convince people you're not a frog in a human suit or are a ghost. No one believes in frog in suit. Your thoughts get auto tuned out loud or your heartbeat plays EDM when you're nervous. Heart EDM communicate only via me or only via outdated slang from 2010.
Unknown Guest
Oh, oh, outdated slings.
Grace O'Malley
Thank you so much for playing.
Unknown Guest
Oh, my God. That was so. That's the scariest part of this.
Grace O'Malley
I know. Well, I have. Be quick, bitch.
Unknown Guest
Be quick.
Grace O'Malley

We all have that piece, you know, the One the thing that's so you. You've basically become known for it. And if you don't have yours yet, you'll find it on either ebay. Let me put you on fashionistas. Ebay is where you'll find those. One of a kind. Can't stop researching. Stay up dreaming about pieces. I'm talking that Miu Miu off the Runway red leather bomber, the Cousto Barcelona top with the cowboy on it, or that Patagonia fleece in the 2017 colorway. All these finds are on ebay and they even offer millions of main character pieces backed by authenticity guarantee. Ebay is the place for pre loved and vintage fashion. EBay, things people love.
Grace O'Malley
This segment is called Disgraceful Receipts, where I have you explain some things you have posted on the Internet.
Unknown Guest
Oh, I love it.
Grace O'Malley
Here we go. We've got this. My husband and I just tried to verbalize what we'd look for in potential third and realized we were just describing an assistant.
Unknown Guest
Some of my fans do, like, I don't get hit on anymore. Just like, what happened?
Grace O'Malley
Oh, you got married?
Unknown Guest
We get hit on together as a duo.
Grace O'Malley
Okay.
Unknown Guest
So we do get hit on together. So a lot of my fans will, like, offer to be our third and stuff. They've written us letters and stuff. And so we were talking about it, like, well, what would we look for in a third, you know, if we were to do that?
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
And I was like, oh, someone who can. Because this, you know, this is after I found out he'd been doing the laundry.
Grace O'Malley
Well, has the. The sneaky third been doing the laundry this whole time? You've got an in house third you.
Unknown Guest
Didn'T know about Elf on the Shelf?
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, they're not really into sex stuff. They're more about, you know, keeping things tidy.
Unknown Guest
Well, that's what I. Because, yeah, I started reminiscing. I started not, like, fantasizing.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Oh, someone who can maybe, like, you know, kiss us and in the morning and tell us the coffee's ready and, oh, also the laundry too. And like. And maybe we go downstairs. It's all been, like, mopped up already. I was like, that's a paid assistant.
Grace O'Malley
No, that's. Yeah, that's totally an assistant.
Unknown Guest
I was like, this is achievable because it's harder to find love.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, no, of course.
Unknown Guest
My third love.
Grace O'Malley
And then. And then it gets tricky when you. When you ask your assistant to kiss you to wake you up. So, you know, slippery slope.
Unknown Guest
No, I would not do that. Yeah, only if we were together.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah, I would.
Unknown Guest
Thought I was describing a lover.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. And. And he's like, that's a job.
Grace O'Malley
That's an assistant for sure. And I've got this tweet. Doesn't everything seem to point back to the fact that we were only supposed to live until we're 30? That checks. I hear you.
Unknown Guest
Yeah. I mean, I think humans are pretty resilient considering pollen alone can take us down.
Grace O'Malley
Pollen. Yeah.
Unknown Guest
But we had to come up with things to just keep us like, yeah, what is that? You know? Oh, pollen. Pollen is killing us. We have to always making new medicines so that we keep living.
Grace O'Malley
Yeah. It's really nuts. When we were in Texas, I. I had. There was some kind of thing that they called it. It was like pollen palooza or something that was going on in Texas. And my eyes were just bloodshot. Wouldn't stop. Wouldn't stop running. And I'm not an allergy person. So I was like, this is right. This. This ain't Texas.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
Woo. Ain't no hold them.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
But it was going down, down, down, down, down. Yeah. And now we've got this. I think it's good to end off on this photograph.
Unknown Guest
Oh. Oh, wow. Yes. Yeah. My grandma hype being my hype person as I shook my booty on the dining table.
Grace O'Malley
Doesn't get better than that. Really.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
You need your ride or die.
Unknown Guest
That's true. And she. She always had me. She said, yep, there she goes. There she goes on our table. That's again.
Grace O'Malley
That's where she got her moves. It's grandma.
Unknown Guest
Yeah.
Grace O'Malley
You know, so thank you so much for coming on. This is abruptly ending. I didn't mean to do that. I just want to give you your time. Thank you for having me to promote anything you'd like to share with the audience here. And you can look. Look right there. Look. Look them right in the eyes and look into their soul.
Unknown Guest
My special father is out on Hulu and Disney. Disney plus internationally. And I'm very proud of it and I'm excited to share with you. Two subs and a pod Two subs and a pod. Coming soon.
Grace O'Malley
Thank you very much. Thank you. It's been a pleasure.
Unknown Guest
Did I pass? Am I a co host?
Grace O'Malley
Oh, yeah. My people will call you.
Unknown Guest
Okay.
Grace O'Malley
All right.
Unknown Guest
That's a no. That's a no. She said no.
Grace O'Malley
No.
Unknown Guest
It's an absolute.
Grace O'Malley
Thank you so much.
Unknown Guest
Thank you. Thank you so much. Yeah.

Insurance may all seem the same on the surface, but having insurance isn't the same as having State Farm. It's like getting a granola bar with a candle in it. When you wanted a three layer birthday cake, you wouldn't settle for just any dessert on your birthday. So don't settle for just any insurance. When it comes to getting the help you need, State Farm is the real deal. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is the there.
