Marty O'Neal
What's up, folks?
Thomas
What's up, everybody? This is the Dope Usual Podcast. We're here to talk about life, drugs, problems, accomplishments, and everything in between. And today is going to be a whole bunch of laughing and in between. Guys, today I'm super excited. This guest has been pitched to us by three different people that we know in person in the past three weeks. Three different communities. Like, you need them on, like. Oh, we're on it, guys. Introducing Concrete. Thank you for being here.
Concrete Duno
Yo, what's up?
Thomas
Three different people in a row.
Concrete Duno
Thank you, man. It wasn't my family members, right? It wasn't my family. My cousins, fools from other states. Oh, fools from other states. Yeah, dude.
Thomas
No, no lie.
Concrete Duno
Good. I was with O.T.
Thomas
Nate and like, you Concrete, bro, that's like our favorite. And then OT's dad's like bringing all your. I'm like, oh, I know exactly.
Concrete Duno
Hell yeah.
Thomas
Flores on last episode, he's like, yo, if anybody's doing it good right now, it's Concrete Duno. Constantly. So good. Good for you, man.
Concrete Duno
Thank you, man.
Thomas
Yeah, non stop.
Concrete Duno
That's dope.
Thomas
Just people just saying how awesome you are.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, no, thank you. That's good, man. As long as people don't say I want money or nothing. This is what he says. That owes me some money, bro. No, I'm good.
Thomas
Okay, so right off the bat, for everyone out here, in a nutshell, you do sketch comedy, but you're doing real standup. You're doing these shows, you're selling out these shows. Yeah, we'll go back into it more, but in a nutshell, you are just entertaining people on the Internet. That's literally what you started off doing, correct?
Concrete Duno
Yeah, entertainment, dude. I mean, enter. I mean, I went from rapping early on, and then I, I left rapping. I started shooting for 12 years, shot, directed music videos, documentaries, films.
Thomas
So I was like, what kind of.
Concrete Duno
I'm in the Valley now. I never got into that. I never hit rock bot enough to go start shooting, like, you know, people. But yeah, and then in 2018, man, I decided to just give it one last shot at, you know, me trying to be an entertainer, me trying to be in front of the camera. Because for so long, I, I, I kind of let it go. I was kind of jaded for a while. I was like, man, this, I'm just gonna, I'm just gonna Be the guy shooting people and making their dreams come true. And hopefully we blow up some people. And, and, and, you know, we were very lucky not to be able to help some people out along the way. And some people blew up, some people didn't. But, you know, nonetheless, man, we work with them and. And, you know, it's just. It was a. Every. Everything that I did before all this comedy helped me to. What I'm doing now.
Thomas
Yeah, it's all.
Concrete Duno
Every single thing that I've done, you know, even from rapping, from doing all that to being on stage. Like, all that helped me be comfortable on stage now, 10, 15 years later, to be able to get on stage and just control the mic, you know, and not be afraid of the crowd.
Thomas
Exactly. I see. I mean, I've seen the set. I've seen the things. It's more about, like when I see you guys do your. After the show with the crowd, it's more like, yeah, every single person there had fun today, and they're so hyped just getting this last. I feel like it's like the sum of, like this show wink and I see that. It's like you're. It's like you're closer.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
Everybody's like, yo, you had fun. Like, yeah, we did have fun.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
So when it comes to. Because I've been doing sketches and the stupid stuff my whole life, doing stand up is a whole different thing. It's a whole different muscle that you're working out right now, and it's really cool to see. And you said you're doing MC or what are you doing? You're hosting.
Concrete Duno
I'm just hosting tonight. But I'm still. But, but I mean. Well, I mean, a host generally goes up, you know, in the beginning, cold, you know, cold turkey kind of deal. You know, you go up there and you. You're a cold opener in a sense. You know, you go up there, you try to hype up the crowd, set the tone for the rest of the show, make sure they're alive with you, that there's, you know, that. Know that they're. That they're on board and you want to. You want to. In between the comics. You, you know, you maybe get a minute or two and then, you know, I've seen. Bust a couple jokes and then you bring up the next comment and pick up the next comic. So I'm kind of just. It's. It's not a chill job, but it's more chill than my usual where I'm. Where I'm doing 45 to an hour, you know, closing, you know, headlining the show, you know, an hour every time. Yeah, sometimes we go over, man. Sometimes I, I do an hour and 15, hour and 20 depending on the show. But yeah, you know, but hosting is, is, it's just as fun, you know.
Thomas
Okay, so you started out out here. It says you're from the. I'm from San Fernando.
Concrete Duno
I'm from San Fernando. So from the city.
Thomas
Yeah, kind of out here. Okay, so you're doing music and then you do camera work, and then you're like, you let me be an entertainer again. So it had to start. Entertaining was the music.
Concrete Duno
Entertainment to me was, was from the jump. Like, I remember being five, six years old and watching and Living Color, you know, as a kid. And my dad had like an old VHS tape camera, and I would take his camera, put it on the tripod, and I would do my own skits, even when I was 6 or 7. And, you know, I mean, we have those tapes and it's like, but at the time, you know, you gotta think about, I'm first generation American. My parents got to work. My dad can't even ask for the day off because he feels like he's gonna get fired. So I can't go to auditions. Headshots are 400. My parents can't afford it. So the acting gig for me early on was like, we can't afford that. Yeah, for one, unreachable. For one, it costs money. And for two, we can't take off of work to take it to auditions and do all this. Right. So then I decided to. At 12, I ended up getting a, a gig at this place called Raisonola Party Rentals in Pacoima. And I, my, I, I, I wanted to be a dj. He used to rent, like, you know, he used to have a bunch of DJs go out during the weekends. And that was my thing. I was like, hopefully one day this guy's gonna ask me to be a dj. And all I do, all I did was clean the chairs, the tables, so that when all the rentals went out, everything was clean. I would get all the boxes with all the CDs for all the DJs, and I would make sure that all the DJs had all their music in there, all their CDs, and make sure they were in scratch. And I would play them and all that good stuff. And then every Friday they would, like, all the guys would, you know, get sent out for, for gigs. And one day he was like, one guy called out, man, I don't know what I'm gonna do. And I was like, ray, you gotta put me in, dog. Ray, put me in. I can DJ. He's like, no, you're 12. No, no, I can't say. I was like, send me, dog, send me. I'm here. Use me, use me, you know? I was like, let's go apocalypto. And please, dog, use me, you know? And he was like, fine. It. He's like, all right, hurry up, grab a box, grab your lights, speakers and your system and I'm going to take you. And it ended up being like a. It was a, it was a. It was a baptism, dude. And there was like 200 people, you know, Mexican baptisms, it's. It's everyone drunk. It's a. Yeah, it's really a party for the adults, you know, it's really a party for the adults. And I get there and the dad's like, where's the dj? And I'm like, oh, it's me. He's like, nah, nah, this is not what I paid for. I was like, give me a shot. You tell someone like, dude, just, just let me play, dog, please. And I start playing and. And people are jamming. Six, seven hours later, the party's jumping, you know what I'm saying? And that was like my first taste of dj. And I was like, all right, cool, this is what I want to do. I want to start DJing. And then, you know, I saved my little money. I used to make $35 a party.
Thomas
That's a lot though, as a kid, dude.
Concrete Duno
Well, for a 12 year old, dude. Oh, man, I used to go on, you know, like, I used to like splurge out at school, do all that.
Thomas
Good, buy all the cookies from the lunch.
Concrete Duno
I mean, granted, I was getting under a super underpaid, you know, like, you're.
Thomas
12 and Mexican, bro. You lucky got paid at all.
Concrete Duno
I gotta be honest, my dad was just happy that I wasn't in the streets type of, you know. So I remember being like, ah, super underpaid. And I was like, nah, man, I'm doing these parties, weddings, baptism was like this. And I ended up getting my own system and I ended up doing. I started doing house parties and all that good stuff at like 13. At like 13, man. 13, 14, 15. Yeah, man, I was doing. I was throwing my own parties. Yeah, man. And then at 15, I got introduced to one of my boys, Lyric, and he was a rapper, he was like, hey man, I'm gonna go to my buddy's House. Do you want to go? I'm gonna record some music. And I was like, yeah, let's go. Some dude named Chuck Heat out in Wooden Hills, and he's sitting right there making beats, man, on his npc. And I'm like, yo, what? What is that? He's like, oh, man, I'm making beats. Like, this is a drum and boom. And so he was like, dude, whenever you want to come and learn, you're more than welcome to come to my house and. And dude, say less. Yeah, because I started ditching school. Like, my dad would drop me off at Kennedy High School. I would go back to the 7 11. I would get the bus and go straight to his house. And then at 1:00, 2:00, I would bust my ass back to. To school to get picked up.
Thomas
So the calls.
Concrete Duno
So I was at the studio, you know, I mean, I was at the studio, and I was working there for a little bit. And, you know, like, I ended up, you know, like, my dad ended up finding out that I was just missing school. And, you know, again, I had a perfectly good explanation. So he was like, all right, you want to do this? All right, you're not gonna be in the street. So what we're gonna do is I'm asking Theo to build, you know, build you a little booth inside the. The garage so you can make your beats in there. And then.
Thomas
Supportive ass dad.
Concrete Duno
Super supportive. Super supportive, though. I mean it. You know, to him, it was either that or I'm gonna. Because I was. I was wild, bro. I was. I was a wild teen. At the same time, you know?
Thomas
Only child. No, no.
Concrete Duno
Only boys. Only boy.
Thomas
Okay.
Marty O'Neal
Skipping school to go to the studio.
Concrete Duno
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Thomas
But, like, he can't be really mad at that. Oh, my kid skipped to perform arts.
Concrete Duno
Well, to me, it sounded good, but to first generation.
Thomas
Oh, you're lazy.
Concrete Duno
You're like, what do you do? Music. Oh, come on, dog. You want to be in there? No, go be. Like, my dad wanted me to be an engineer, like, build and create. And I was like, nah, man.
Thomas
I want to take care of me.
Concrete Duno
I want to make be, dog. I want to rap. I'm going to take over the world.
Marty O'Neal
Who was your favorite producer at the time?
Concrete Duno
At the time, man. You know what, dude? I listen to everything. Go ahead, dog. Light your up. Do you think? Do you think? Do you think? And I mean, you know, Dre Timbaland, just blaze a lot of those guys, obviously. I mean, you know, like the. The QD3s of the world. The Quincy Joneses of the world. All those guys are big producers, you know, So I, I, I, I more or less because I'm a music lover. I, I grew up with other music besides rap. So, you know, my dad used to listen to, you know, you know, Air Supply. He used to listen.
Thomas
Oh, good.
Concrete Duno
You know what I'm saying? He used to listen to like, soft rock and rock and, you know, like, from, from Spanish to all that stuff. So I was pretty well rounded growing up. So it was just, I was just a lover of music. It didn't really matter what kind of music I wanted to make, but do for work. My dad worked at, he worked at the aerospace right here in Sylmar. And he used to do the windows for all the bulletproof Humvees and all that stuff for the Philippines. Yeah, yeah. And I mean, he's still there, dude. I think, what, 30 years later, man, he's still there.
Thomas
Still there.
Concrete Duno
Hasn't missed a day of work. What a badass, you know, So I started making beats and then, you know, I started being the only kid at 15, 16 that had a studio, studio anywhere near in my area. So I used to have people come to the crib. And it went from making beats to partying to this to back to making beats, a partying. And eventually I was like, man, none of the guys that I'm bringing over here can spit. These fools are whack, yo. I've been there. Like, none of these foods can spit, dog. And then I had a, I had a little group, you know, I mean, like, like me and my cousin and my boys, I mean, I mean, we had a little group. It was cool, you know, were trying to make it happen, but I wanted, I wanted more. So I started writing myself and I started just really, really sharpening the pen and getting good at it. And I remember at 15, 16, I was like, look, I remember I told my parents, I told my, my homies. I was like, look, man, by the age of 21, man, give me five years, I might have a song on the radio on power. And we accomplished that. We accomplished that. I ended up getting signed in my early 20s, I think. I, I had just turned 20.
Thomas
Would you go buy a or same thing?
Concrete Duno
Beretta? No, no, I used to go as Beretta. Okay. So I ended up getting signed by Steve LaBelle, Shawna Lewis from AZ Entertainment. And then me and, you know, me and Nipy were signed the same week to the same management deal. So I got to see Nipy, like, grow as an artist. Early on all his shows, and, you know what I'm saying, I was. I was doing all my shows as well. And, you know, that was. That was the beginning of the rap career, and it was, you know, somewhat successful. I mean, we had fun. We toured. I had a song on the radio, a couple songs on the radio.
Marty O'Neal
Stell's a legend. That's like.
Concrete Duno
Stell's a legend. Yeah. Biggie, Tupac, like, yeah, legend. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, I. You know, Run DMC and Mariah Carey, Bone Thugs in Harmony. I mean, he's managed a lot of people, and I was on that roster early on. You know what I'm saying? So just to be.
Thomas
In five years.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, in five years, man. So, you know, I mean, but that's how, like, Dedic. Like, I was. I was a studio. It was every day, dog. It wasn't.
Thomas
We could tell by the way you said, like, I was 13. Just give me a shot.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. Is.
Thomas
There's a certain mentality in people, and if you have it, it's kind of hard to fail, man.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, I think it's like, I. It's. It's. Honestly, it's. It's. When you love something, dog, there's, you know, there's nothing else to it. You know what I'm saying? I think there's always, you know, there's always that passion and that love for something that, you know, to me, it's always been entertainment. You know, I. I just. Whether it was rapping or whatever, I just wanted it. I just wanted to entertain, dog. You know, and it wasn't. And it was never about, like, I want to do it to be famous. No, I. I love. I just love the craft of art, you know what I'm saying? I. Ever since I was a kid. So I know it has nothing to do with ego. Ego. Or me trying to be famous or the money. Because honestly, dude, I did plenty of DJ gigs where I didn't get paid because I was. Because the older homies were like, that. We ain't paying you, homie. You know, like that. Oh, hell, I went through plenty of those. When you're 15 and they're like, get out of here for, we ain't gonna pay you, dog. And it's like, all right, cool. And then I go get in my crates and I'm like, it. I don't want no problems, dog. I'm just trying to spin and just have a good time doing it for the love. Just doing it for the love. And even when I started doing Music videos. Like, I did a lot of music videos for free, you know, so I'm rapping, I'm doing all that. Everything's going amazing. Shit's going good, the rapping's going good. It got to a point where I was like, oh, shit's getting real, dog. Like, because I don't really gang bang and I'm talking about some gang banging, dog. Oh, in your music.
Thomas
What'S your name?
Concrete Duno
Beretta. Yeah. CB4.
Thomas
So what a good movie.
Concrete Duno
I'm over here, you know, again, I mean, I'm telling stories, you know what I'm saying? But in the art of rap, there's a certain, especially in la, there's a certain code, right, that you go by that if you talk about street, that you, that you, you better be from the streets, right?
Marty O'Neal
You open yourself up to that.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, you open yourself up to that. So I started opening myself up to negativity and I'm like, oh, damn, man. Ah, damn, this is getting really uncomfortable because I don't, I don't really gang bang like that though. I'm just, I'm just rapping for the streets, dog. Like, I grew up in this, you know what I'm saying? And you know, think, you know, things are going amazing. I'm starting to see the, the reality of. And then my best friend, which was my manager and my. And my hype man, passed away in 2008 of an overdose. Oh, and this was at a time, dude, where I'm like, shit's going well, we're touring, we're selling out shows now. And it kind of just hit us like, you know, it kind of hit us like a ton of bricks because we didn't see it coming. It was just kind of like, holy. Like, all right, maybe this is not what the fuck we should be doing, man. Like, we should really focus on.

Making music and really entertaining because we look like, dude, we started partying, you know what I'm saying? At the time, I had my own demons too, man. And I'm. I'm blessed to be here by the grace of God. I'm still Here, bro. You know, and, you know, unfortunately for my friend, it didn't. It didn't. It didn't. You know, it just didn't pan out that way. And when he passed away, I was kind of like, man, all this rap, like, I don't want to do it no more. It just kind of seemed, like, boring to me. Like. Like, you started seeing, like, who was hanging around with you because of where you were going and not because of who you were.
Thomas
Yeah.
Concrete Duno
You know what I'm saying? I think people were like, well, he's not doing rap no more. So then the phone call stop. And the people started calling me to go kick it. And, you know, all this in your con, like, you know what, man? All this, man. Like, you started. You started seeing the facade of what happens when life is going good for you in entertainment, right?
Thomas
Yes.
Concrete Duno
People want to cling on and, you know, ride the coattails. And as soon as stopped, it was like, oh, he's doing that, you know. You know, like, you know, where you at? So I ended up. I remember at the time I was, you know, again, I've always been, like, interested in. In entertainment. And. And I was like, you know what, man? I want to start. I want to start shooting some music videos, man. After.
Thomas
You're like, music. I think I'm moving on. Hold.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, man, I put it on. I mean, I was still rapping. I did put out records, and I still. Again, I still had a record on the RA radio. Even after I had said I was done with it. I had this record called We can make it Rain. And that one, you know, that one hit, like, 35 stations across the nation type of deal. And even as that's going big feet.
Thomas
That you're just like, you know, most people like, yo, one time I was on the radio for 35, and you're just kind of like, yeah, I did that. It's kind of wild to hear. You're like, yeah, it's just a stepping stool. Let's go to the next part.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, that's crazy.
Thomas
Get behind the camera. When you're. When you're in front of the mic is such a. Yeah, you just, like, art.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. No. Why? Yeah, I mean, like, I mean, to me, I didn't see it as in, like, oh, I'm blowing up. To me, I'm just seeing like, well, this is what's supposed to happen, right? Like, I didn't. I didn't see it as. I've never seen anything that I've accomplished as a miracle or as. No, it's you put the work in, bro, you're gonna get the benefits out of it. I don't care what it is, what it is, you know what I'm saying? Like, if you put the work in it, bro, and you put the right amount of work and you have the right people around you, you can accomplish some pretty cool, you know what I'm saying? So I never really saw it as in like, oh man, like, that's amazing. Like, I can't believe we came across this. Like, nah, we set out to do that. That was the goal from the jump, you know, and obviously, dude, with, you know, you know, with everything comes blessings. Obviously, God blesses you with, with, with the tenacity and the urge and the, you know, the will to want to get done, you know, but ultimately it's up to you to get it done, you know, 100%, you know what I'm saying?
Thomas
And everybody, you could be rich and still be a piece of.
Concrete Duno
Still be a piece of. Yeah, so I'm doing all that. And then, so I started shooting music videos, man, here in LA. Yeah, 2010. And because I knew so many rappers, I started hitting dudes up like, hey man, do you need a music video? I got you smart. I'm not good, but try it. But I'll do it for free and then I'll just cut it. And at that time, YouTube was like, oh, like you could put videos on, on the Internet. I was like, yeah, fool, I'll put your video on the Internet. I got you, I got the hook up dollars. You know, people at YouTube finessing this, yeah, food for a 35 fee, dog. I'll get you on, dog. And I started doing videos, probably putting people up on YouTube and, you know, it just kind of developed into that and I was blessed, bro, blessed to travel, though. You know, travel the country, travel the world doing it. Got to work with some amazing artists. I, I could literally say I saw the world through a lens for close to 12 years, man. Man, closer 12 years.
Thomas
You just took this new journey on.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. And it was, it was, I never looked back, man. I was just like, let's go shoot. And, and, and again, when I, even when I said, I'm gonna, I'm gonna start shooting, I'm gonna get a million views, I wanna, I want, I wanted.
Thomas
The video that I shot for every single.
Concrete Duno
I wanted the artists that I shot for to say, concrete gaming my first million views or, you know what I'm saying? And that was like, to me, that was like, that's what got Me going. That's what got me horny about it. I was like, okay, cool. I gotta. These are my goals. My goal is to make sure that when I shoot music videos for you, that that person that that artist gets the reaps the most benefits off of that music video.
Marty O'Neal
100 smart.
Concrete Duno
You know what I'm saying?
Marty O'Neal
People think like this. I'm super deep into digital media, too.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Marty O'Neal
And a lot of people don't go into it with this mentality.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Marty O'Neal
But you built out your relationships and you realize, like, I'm not just one thing.
Concrete Duno
For sure. No, for sure. And then people would be like, what are you doing music videos. I thought you were rapping. I'm like, yeah, but it just wasn't working out. And it's just so awesome to hear.
Thomas
That you can just go piece by piece, what you want to do. Like, yeah, Marty started off a same thing. Music. And then you did the camera for 12 years. Literally 12 years by the camera. And now he's on the. It's. Yeah, it just seems like he's from the east Coast. It's just like when I. When we do these shows, I always hope that the guest says something that someone like Kentucky like, yeah, me too, man. Same. And then just inspires people to do more. Because, like, you didn't have that when you're younger.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. No, dude. And even when I was like. Even when I had just started shooting, it was one of those things where I was like, I want to start shooting because it's paying the bills, but I also want to give this acting stuff a chance. And I started going to auditions. I got an agent.
Thomas
Oh, while you're doing.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. And I was booking, man. I mean. I mean, I was. I mean, I have two episodes on Wilfred.
Thomas
Oh, no.
Concrete Duno
You know what I'm saying? I was on Tattoo Nightmares.
Thomas
Really? My first Tattoo Nightmares. Is it real?
Concrete Duno
No. Right?
Thomas
Hell no.
Concrete Duno
No, no, no, no, no. I did the reenactments. I thought they gave you a fake. No, no, the tattoo nightmare is real. I was doing the reenactments. Right.
Thomas
I know exactly what you're talking. I watched that show before my. Did he really?
Concrete Duno
Yeah. You know, so I did that. I got a little. I. Dude, like, the one that I can hit up the most is. It's a background roll dog. Like, is that you? Yeah, yeah, because I remember I did. I did this huge Arizona lottery campaign. Huge, bro.
Thomas
Oh, my God.
Concrete Duno
Huge. And I'm everywhere. I'm in Billboard 7, 11 circle K's, buy the lottery. And I'm the guy. Like, I'm the guy.
Thomas
I have a great memory.
Concrete Duno
And when I came back home, nobody would like, nobody believed me.
Thomas
And I was like, you had the same hair.
Concrete Duno
Like, are you the guy? Are you the guy from. I'm like, no. Like I would tell people, hey, I'm the guy from the Arizona. Larry. Like dude, stop. And I was like, what do you want me to do? Drive to Arizona to believe you? So it's kind of like people, nobody ever believed me. But I have one of the biggest.
Thomas
Campaign exactly what you're talking about.
Concrete Duno
You. It was called the Casamillo.
Thomas
It's really funny because it's like, it's like those bright colored yellow or, or orange shirts, right?
Concrete Duno
Like the, the biggest commercial where it was like I was, I was, I was a, I was a, I was a Powerball, Powerball hunter. And I had like, you know, I had the truck and it was like I was Powerball hunting in the desert.
Thomas

Concrete Duno
All right?
Thomas
And if you put money on it, put it on my bookie. Thank you guys for supporting the brands that support us. Back to the episode.
Concrete Duno
So I did that commercial. I did, you know, my first feature film called Green Card warriors, that's on hbo. You guys can find Green Car Warrior. And that was my fe. My first feature, along with Richard Cabal's first feature. And Richard Cabal is, you know, very successful actor. I believe he won a Golden Globe a few years back. Anyways, so that was mine and his first feature.
Thomas
And then you go to these roles, you're doing these auditions.
Concrete Duno
I'm doing these auditions and I.
Thomas
Comedy.
Concrete Duno
It's not comedy, but it's not comedy. Half of it is, you know, because I'm just, you know, I was just. I was taking every audition like that I can find.
Thomas
So I've never been to an audition or something. You know, you walk in, what is it like, there's a bunch of dudes like, damn, you look just like me.
Concrete Duno
Roughly. Oh, roughly. Roughly. You'll see it like, you'll see a bunch of dudes that you know, and you're like, what's up, bro?
Thomas
Like, oh, you're here. I hope you don't do good.
Concrete Duno
Or you're going for the road, too. Good luck, dog.
Thomas
Like when Men in Black. When they're all trying to be Men in black.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. I hope you faint on the way in there.
Thomas
That's kind of. That's kind of odd, though. Like, going up. It's like summer camp, but also competition.
Concrete Duno
Well, it's because, you know, a lot of these dudes, you know what I'm saying?
Thomas
From other auditions.
Concrete Duno
From other auditions, you know, and then you'll walk out and you'll be like, I did good. And they'll be like, all right. And. And then, you know, so they'll go in there, and then you'll see them go in there, and then they'll come out all hyped, and you're like, they're probably gonna book that dude. And then you'll go in there and you'll do your thing. You're like, nah, they're probably gonna book me. And next thing you know, they don't book anybody. They just pick the most random guy. You know what I'm saying? So it's kind of heartbreaking. It's. Oh, dude, auditions are very humbling. Very humbling because you think you're doing good, and then, like, you're putting on this great. You're putting on this great, you know, acting monologue, and you're doing all this. And they're like, thank you. We'll stay in touch. And you're like, that's it? Yeah, that's it. Thank you. And you're like, oh, I've been practicing this for four days. That's all I get, you know? And then they'll call you, like, hey, you got a call back. You want to come back? I was like, yeah, you know, so it's. It's.
Thomas
It's so, like, putting yourself out there, like, am I good enough for you to like me?
Marty O'Neal
It could change your life. If it goes well.
Concrete Duno
If it goes well, it'll change your life, man. You know, I mean, I'm still getting checks from even the little stuff that I've done, you know, 10 years ago, you know? Really? Oh, yeah. Sick. Yeah, for sure. I mean, it's not like, life changing money, but, you know, pay your phone bill, you know? Yeah, phone bill. Put some gas in the tank type of deal, you know? I've never did anything that was, like, major. The only thing that did was major. I'm telling you. The one that people recognize me the Most is for the background role that I did in. I did in Fast seven. So. Yeah. Yeah, for. For Fast seven. So I'm in the background, like, classics, dude. And honestly, like, I'm like, like I'm looking at like Vin Diesel. I'm like, I'm starstruck, dog. I don't even know what to do in the background. And they keep telling me, you with the concrete hat on, stop staring at Vin.
Thomas
That must be embarrassing. I gotta be honest.
Concrete Duno
I'm like, okay, my bad. So now I'm looking this way. So everybody's looking at the scene and I'm over here like looking like this.
Thomas
I always wonder what background actors do.
Concrete Duno
You know, it's honestly, it's harder to.
Thomas
Be a background actor than get to talk about nothing.
Concrete Duno
Because. Because you gotta look normal as. And then you don't have nothing to do. And then you're just miming your mommy conversations. You're just like, ew.
Thomas
It's kind of weird, actually.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. Like just mute it, you know? Yeah. And then, you know, so it's like a cattle call. So. I remember that one. It was like 1000 extras. Yeah. 1000 extras.
Thomas
And they keep seeing you out of all that.
Concrete Duno
I'm in the background. I'm in the back and I wore my hat that said Concrete Smart.
Thomas
They let it slip through.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, they let it. Well, cuz it wasn't a brand. It was just Concrete. Got it. You lucky. So people are like, is that you? And I'm like, read the hat. They're like, that's you, dude.
Thomas
You got away with a good.
Concrete Duno
My most recognizable role is a background.
Thomas
But come on. Cold, classic and says your name.
Concrete Duno
Let's go.
Thomas
Do you always watch It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia?
Concrete Duno
Yeah, I. I've caught a few of it. I love it.
Thomas
It's one of my favorite shows. But see that right there? I. I threw my sticker on the sign outside the wall and it popped up in an episode and I could see my sticker perfect behind. Ma, that's nothing. I'm so happy. It was eight years ago. This was his name in Fast and Furious.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
I'd forever be. It's like being in a video game.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
Like the background of Guile when he's fighting and people like, what role did you play?
Concrete Duno
I was like myself.
Thomas
Do you have any lines? I didn't even need lines.
Concrete Duno
I didn't need lines credited. No, I actually gave my lines to Vin.
Thomas
Yeah.
Marty O'Neal
Where'd the name Concrete come from?
Concrete Duno
Right after my best friend passed away. I used to go by Beretta. I figured that Beretta was name that had a negative connotation to it, even though it wasn't. You know, my, my thought process behind Beretta was a Beretta holds 16 bullets. A rap verse holds 16 bars, and I spit it like a Beretta does. And when, you know, it was always like, it always had a negative connotation, especially when you're rapping about that is street. It's just, you know, it's a recipe for disaster. Yeah, it's a recipe for, for, for people to test your gangsters type of, you know, especially in la.
Thomas
Being brown.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
So.
Concrete Duno
So for what? So when my, when my boy passed away, it was kind of one of those things where I was like, all right, man, you got to grow up. Got you. You got to grow up. You got to figure this out anymore and mature and, you know, just like concrete, when you lay it down and you let it sit and it hardens, you could build a salt that. That's a solid foundation to build on. And ever since then, I feel like I've been solid enough to build on. And that's where we're at now. Look, you know, look what we've done. It's not the sexiest name, but it's metaphor sexiest.
Thomas
It's a hard ass name.
Concrete Duno
You know, it's not a sexy name, but you know what I'm saying. But you know, he knew how hard it was, right?
Thomas
Yeah, it's just hard.
Marty O'Neal
Hardest rock thought into that.
Thomas
I like that. What's up, guys? Taking a moment from this episode to talk about one of our favorite sponsors. You've seen him on the dope as YOLO channel. You see them on our podcast, you've seen them on Twitter. You see them everywhere. This is the Nova by Cypher. And I know a lot of people like y'all don't even know what that is. You need to get on it. I guarantee you this is going to be one of the biggest things in the history of smoking. This is a pipe, this is a bong. This is everything in one. You can attach this and make it a bong. You saw it on my videos. You see, I actually use this. You can do up to 30 pods. You can do 30 strange. This right here was custom, so it's not on the site, but it's coming very soon. They're going to have a centerpiece with a bunch of these attached with hoses. And we could just get wrecked at any time.

Thomas
It is the party piece. It's the ultimate centerpiece. It's awesome. It's like when people have centerpieces at weddings, except, you know, for high people. Yes. This thing efficiently burns everything down how you want. As long as you're breathing, the cherry's going. If you stop, the cherry stops. You can twist it. No dumping the bowl. You just. It's 100% user friendly. Shout out to every single person that had something to do with making this, this right here. I suggest 1000%. If you're going to get this, get the bubbler attachment. Know it makes it massive, but it looks so much cooler to me. It rips. You can actually use it like a water piece. 100% fully taking bong rips. I guarantee you on everything I've ever done, you're going to like this. You're 12 years in now. You're like, I'm going to go acting. I'm going to keep doing this. So for the past, what, like five and a half, maybe five years, you've been going extra, extra hard, not doing as much camera stuff.
Concrete Duno
No, I mean, I, I, I just literally like the last person that I shot music videos for was Peso Pluma.
Thomas
How old was that?
Concrete Duno
2022. 2022.
Thomas
Also this is recent.
Concrete Duno
This is recent. Yeah.
Thomas
You're still doing all this multifaceted.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, but I'm only taking certain clients that I've worked with in the past. I'm not taking new clients. So I'm just. Because I'm so busy with my comedy now that, that's what I'm saying that I'm, I'm, you know, Damn.
Thomas
Do you do a lot?
Marty O'Neal
I'm talking about like a big shoot with a crew and stuff. Music videos.
Thomas
Like real, A real video.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, but with a budget.
Thomas
Well, if you see here, Peso Pool, one of the biggest artists on the planet.
Concrete Duno
Well, Peso Pluma's videos weren't big because they didn't have a big budget when they were trying to break him. The first videos that he ever got shot were with me here in LA.
Thomas
No.
Concrete Duno
And so that was 2022. 2021. 2022. And then I remember we were, I forgot what the I was doing and I was Looking at. I was just looking at some of the. On YouTube, and in the video that I shot, one of the videos that I shot for him popped up and had like 50 million views. And I'm like, wait, what? I said, what?
Marty O'Neal
Did you edit it also?
Concrete Duno
Yes, I did.
Thomas
Oh, what are you using?
Concrete Duno
Adobe. Adobe. Adobe. So then I was. I'm tripping out. I was like, yo, like, this shit's taking off. And then I. I search another video that I did for him, and I was like, 8 million views, and I'm just like, yo, this kid's gonna blow.
Thomas
That's nothing compared to what he's doing right now.
Concrete Duno
And then.
Thomas
Crazy.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, dude. And then we ended up doing a couple more. I think I did, like, six videos for him. And then six months later, he's arguably the biggest artist in the world. Yeah. Again, I'm not saying I had nothing to do. I'm not saying it was me. But what I will say is that I have a fingerprint on his career. You know what I'm saying? And there's many fingerprints on his crew because he has a big team and he has a lot of really smart people around him, clearly. Right. Clearly has a lot of good people around him. And I was just. I'm just happy to say, hey, man, I have a little fingerprint and pestle.
Marty O'Neal
Were you thinking when you're, like, editing.
Concrete Duno
It or when you're never. I was a fan of the music. I was like, this sounds really good. He's a good writer. This shit's dope. He has charisma. The kid was nice. You know, we've talked briefly on social media, even just recently, you know, still has a great head on his shoulders and. And it's just dope to see him flourish and become one of the biggest artists in the world right now, dude. And just the fact that I was able to help and. And put my little two cents in, that is. Is a busy person. I've always. You know what's crazy? I've always felt like I had a really. I had, like, a Forrest Gump life, you know? I feel like I've always been at the right time.
Thomas
I really like the way you put that. I think about that all the time. Like, am I slightly too. Something's gotta be off. Like, yo, can I run fast? I bet you I'm fast. Something's gotta happen.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
If I start running up a tree and like, damn, I could do this the whole time.
Concrete Duno
Like, I've always felt like I had. I've just been at the Right place at the right time and just drop the book, ma'am. You know, happened to meet the right people, and. And, you know, that's how it was. I mean, but I. I've been able to build relationship with a lot of these guys, you know. Baby Bash is a good friend of mine. You know, he. He's. He's been amazing to me and my family when we were going through tough times. MC Magic, I mean, dude, just so many artists that I've been able to work with on that aspect of directing that even after I stopped directing, I would go back to them, be like, bash, let's do a skit. Bash was one of the first ones to say yes to me. You know, he was like, yeah, it. Let's do skits. And then it was MC Magic. And then, you know, so then Bash put me on his platform, and people are like, yo, who's that dude? And, you know, cross pollinating. Yeah, dude, we were just. Yeah, we were just doing it.
Marty O'Neal
They respect you as a music video director. It's easier to get him on, like, Social.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, I think, you know, even Bash at the time, he was like, what are you gonna do now? I was like, I don't know, you know, because at the time, I was renting his house in Northridge, and he was just like, what are you gonna do now? This is during the pandemic. And I was like, I don't even know, dude. I. You know, in 2018. Well, I'll tell you why I started doing social in 2018. We had a. My crew members fumbled, and they stole our equipment at one of the shoots. And they stole all your camera gear. Yeah, everything, bro.
Marty O'Neal
What are we talking?
Concrete Duno
Like, 40 GS. Ah. Lenses, cameras, hard drives. Everything.
Thomas
Everything.
Concrete Duno
Everything. I had. If I had two hard drives in my backpack, and one of the backpacks and two of those hard drives held videos that I had just shot in Honduras.
Marty O'Neal
Oh, God.
Concrete Duno
Oh. And it was like, oh, how are we gonna get back to Honduras with, you know, all the models and the flights that we took and, like, all the rentals we got? And so here I am having to call, like, hey, dude. So, you know. You know how they stole my gear? Yeah. Yeah. Why? What's up? What's going on? I was like, well, your hard drive with the video was in there. What?
Marty O'Neal
Oh, God.
Concrete Duno
You know, so I'm.
Thomas
Dude.
Concrete Duno
And I remember I posted a video on social at this point, I'm not doing comedy yet. This is, like, the breaking point of it. I remember posting a video on social media And I'm like, if anybody knows anybody, please let me know. We. I need my stuff back. At least give me the hard drives. I even put that in black and white for dramatic effect. You know what I'm saying? And I didn't get no replies. Nothing. And honestly, I didn't do. I cried for days as a grown man. I was like, all my gear is gone. I didn't want to start over. It's the gear. It's.
Thomas
It's. It's the hard drives.
Concrete Duno
It's every. You know. Yeah, yeah, for sure.
Thomas
I can always replace that gear.
Concrete Duno
Laptop, everything we had. Lights, cameras, lenses.
Thomas
Someone stole, like, out of the van or something.
Concrete Duno
Out of a truck. It was out of a truck. Yeah, at the shoot. Yeah, at the shoot. So we just walked around to go do a shot. 10, 15 minutes. Came back, the truck was. You ever seen that? Like that scene in Ninja Turtles in the beginning and part number one where they open the door and everything's gone.
Thomas
What a great reference. I felt like, thank you.
Concrete Duno
I felt like the Foot Clan had.
Thomas
And they snatch her TV while she's watching the tv. I never understood that part, man.
Concrete Duno
I felt like the Foot Clad came in and just took our. And again, I didn't want to go back to the. I didn't. I was like, I don't want to have to. It's heartbreaking, you know, like, reinvest all that money. I remember. I remember, like, the next week I had a huge music video with Cheekies, Frankie J. And Baby Bash. Huge music video. Here I am having to rent everything, dog, just to. Just to get the. Like, I didn't even get paid because of money. I got paid. I used it. I used it off of rentals for, you know, so. And it was kind of one of those things. Like, you know what? I'm. I'm done with this. And I'm. I'm at my last days at an office that I was, you know, kind of trading work with, you know, and they were like, you know, you trade work with us, we'll give you an office. And so I had a. Had a love, you know, shout outs to, you know, eat up and Cooley at the time. You know, they. They, you know, they're blessing me with that, and I'm there. Like, I don't even know what to do anymore, man. I'm just kind of know, totally in my thumbs and trying to figure it out. And I'm. I remember I. I got some food and I'm just eating my fries and I'm seeing like, videos on YouTube. And. And there's this. There's this guy, this. This. This dude singing, like, at a New York subway. And I was like, you know what? If I. If I do a reaction video to this, post it on Instagram. So I did that. Posted on Instagram. At this point, I think I only had, like, a couple thousand followers. And it was all family. And then, you know, like, industry people, you know, rappers.
Thomas
And by. By reaction, you mean, like, pretending that you're part of the episode?
Concrete Duno
Not that yet. Okay. I was just. I was just reacting to it. Reacting to it and people. And I remember I got, like, 10 comments like, yo, that was funny. You should do more. And I was like, nah, all this. And I keep it. Same day. I keep scrolling. And then there was a video of some lady getting caught up at a liquor store, stealing. And I was like, yo, that. That liquor store or that it looks just like the gas station right across from us. I was like, at this point, I was like, okay, what about if I put myself in the video? I was like. And, you know, coming from shooting, I was like, I know the lighting, the time of day, whether it's tungsten, whether it's daylight, whether it's, you know, shot at 720, 480, I was able to match it.
Marty O'Neal
I matched the colors 720 and 480.
Concrete Duno
You know, 7, 2480, 10, whatever. I was like, I'm gonna match this. I'm gonna match the grain. I'm gonna match everything of the video. And I remember I was. I. I went to the store to do that. That worked there. He was like, what the is this guy doing? I was like, dude, you'll see, because I'm over here acting stupid, and I'm grabbing, and he's like, what are you doing? And I was like, I'll be back in 30 minutes. I'm gonna go edit this. He's like, edit what? I'll be back. Just wait. And I remember I edited the video. I came back and I showed it to him, and he was flying, rolling. He was like, yo, it looks like it's really here. And I posted the video, and immediately, dude, that was like 200 comments, you know, 5, 000 likes. And at that point, dude, I wasn't getting no more than 4 comments. And it was from my family. Yeah, my sister, like, she saw that it worked. I was like, it worked. And then immediately my girl calls me, and she's like, are you seeing this? And I was like, are you seeing this? I was like, keep going. She was like, yeah, it. Keep going. And then. So that's where I just caught the bug, dog.
Thomas
That's funny.
Concrete Duno
I caught the bug. I packed up my. And I went home and I was like, this is gonna. This is gonna be our studio. I'm gonna work from home now, and I'm gonna just do. I'm gonna do skits, social media. Some of my buddies were like, yo, man, you know, people are making money off of this. And I'm like, really? I was like, okay, all right. It. Hopefully one day we'll get there, right? And then I just kept doing skits, and it started growing from 2, 000 followers. 4, 000 followers. 5,000, 10,000. You know, and then it just kept growing and growing, and the skits getting. Kept getting more elaborate and more elaborate. You know, the fact that you have.
Thomas
The knowledge for videography is the. I started off.
Concrete Duno
That's what helped me, dude, was before scum.
Thomas
I put myself. I sat next to the bench with him with packs.
Concrete Duno
Yes.
Thomas
2013 with a little juxtaposer app.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
I didn't know how to do video, so I always put myself in pictures. So I started off doing robot chicken for weed. That's what I called it.
Concrete Duno
I love every picture.
Thomas
Like, what the are you doing now, bro? Yeah, I'd be like on stage of the Beatles holding packs. You're not that old, you know, but like, fun. Stupid.
Concrete Duno
It's just fun.
Thomas
Just makes you laugh. But so you doing it, actually matching it. Know what you're doing it.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
It's a winning recipe, man.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. Come on. Yeah, dude. So we just started doing that, and then I started developing characters, you know, because I was like, I can't live off of these for so long because I. I don't want to wait for something to happen for the next viral video. And then me put myself in that video. So I didn't want to wait for that. I was like, I gotta start creating characters and creating more avenues. Entertainment, you know, just. Just. Just flood this with good content. And. And to me, even when brands hit me early on, it's. And still to this day, like, it's not a. I try to do skits. That. The funny comes first, bro.
Thomas
Yeah.
Concrete Duno
Not the money, you know, the funny. Like, if I can't. If I can't make a funny skit out of your brand or then I don't want to do it. I. I don't want to touch it because I don't, for one. I don't want to hurt the integrity of My comedy. And for two, I don't want to hurt the integrity of your brand, so I'd rather not do it. Right. Unless I have something that's like, yo, I think I could do some for your brand. I got it. It's in my head. We can get it. You know, I love that type of.
Thomas
It's marketing.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, man. And, and, and, and it's, It's. It's brought us to, you know, to this. And Stand up was never. I never want to do stand up. I've always been a fan of sketch comedy, specifically, Specifically, you know, like, In Living Color. Like, I'm a huge fan of Jamie Foxx, Jim Carrey, the whole cast of really Living Color, and obviously Chappelle, he came after, you know.
Thomas
Yeah, but Fire Marsh build predates all that Chappelle show.
Concrete Duno
Every, like, so it's all of it.
Thomas
I get it. It doesn't predate snl, but it had a different vibe.
Concrete Duno
It wasn't as. But, you know, I think it's funnier. I didn't watch SNL like that. I did as a kid, but, you know, I mean, I saw it, but it never captivated me. Like, I think, you know, SNL to me was main, like the mainstream aspect of it and biggest stars and Living Color. Yeah, and Living Color had a bunch of up and coming comedians that'd be legends soon. That would be legends soon. And, and it was more urban, it was more street, it was more towards, you know what. You know, what I was around. You know what I'm saying? So, yeah, it just. It was just like, yeah, this. This is definitely what I want to do. And, and dude, too, to come back full circle to me, it's just. It's crazy, man. But I never want to do stand up. Never, never.
Thomas
How did I fall in? Somebody asked you to. But yo.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, you know what? People keep asking me shout outs to my boy Jaime, too, from Project Cove, because he asked me to do my first comedy, my first stand up. I didn't want to do it, man, because I pride myself on being a sketch comedy comedian. An actor. A comedic actor. Right. But I think when people see my page, they see comedy. And I wanted. I wanted it to stay like that. I want to be in movies, and I want to be taken as a serious comedic actor in a way, like, not just social media. Right. Like, I feel that I'm.
Thomas
I, you know, you're developing characters.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. Like, I feel that I'm bigger than just social media comedy. I. I can be in movies and TV shows and So I, I was very protective of that. And I was like, ah, man, I don't know if I want to do this. And then, then my boy Jerry Garcia called me. It was Jerry. Frankie Quinones and Jesus.
Thomas
Jerry Garcia.
Concrete Duno
And now.
Thomas
Not the musician.
Concrete Duno
Not the musician. Yeah. And then he calls me, he said, hey, dude, we got this tour we're doing. It's called those Dogs. He goes, man, we would love for you to host it.
Thomas
That's what it's called. Oh, you know, that was a wild tour.
Concrete Duno
Oh, it was insane, dude. And he's like, yeah, man, you can do whatever you want. You can do your characters and everything. So that's how I started doing, dude, 2021. Late 2021.
Thomas
So you.
Concrete Duno
I.
Thomas
It really amazing because we do a lot. It's just me and him, right?
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
The fact that you're doing this, you could put the music on hold, you can do the Peso Puma videos, you can get all your stolen and keep doing all this is very impressive, man. I. I didn't know I. I was looking at sketch comedy and I thought it was comedy, you understand? I didn't know there was many more layers to this. The fact that, you know what you're doing with the camera automatically is a whole nother talent. Because this is what we do.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, yeah.
Thomas
So just to be able to do it and go, hey, by the way, that angle's up. I can see it from here because someone's holding the camera for you. Go higher and left, bro. I can see it from here.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
It's a whole different thing.
Concrete Duno
I could tell by your holding it how long you've been holding it.
Thomas
100. Everything about it.
Concrete Duno
Right.
Thomas
So just.
Concrete Duno
I. I don't know.
Thomas
I. We haven't had many guests on here that have multi talents.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, like, you know what it is, is like once you've. Once you've walked so far, dog, there's no turning back. Yeah. And I think for me, it's been like that. Like, if I was gonna go to school and do all that and get a 401k, like, you know how far behind? Like, I know dudes that have mad money in their 401k. At my age, I'd be starting from like, $1.
D
This is the sound of your ride home with dad after he caught you vaping.
Concrete Duno
Awkward, isn't it?
D
Most vapes contain seriously addictive levels of nicotine and disappointment. Know the real cost of vapes brought to you by the fda.
Concrete Duno
I feel you. So it's like, what am I supposed to do Good. Like, how old are you? I'm 38, dude.
Thomas
Oh, so you're like 36 or 37 or something? Like, you're. Tell by the. You're saying 37, 35.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, bro. So if I go back, like, I. I wouldn't even know where to start. Like, I wouldn't do. I wouldn't know what kind of job to get. I wouldn't know where to go. Like, I'm this. I'm. I'm. Dude, I'm balls deep. I'm. I'm on my last bet right now. Like, this is my last. You know, Say you. You're. I'm on my last bet, man. You, like.
Thomas
Like, how many more turns you get in one life? Only got three.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, dude. Like, do you ever sit there like, you go gambling? You're like, the last 60 cents, you. Let's go.
Thomas
Hit.
Concrete Duno
And I feel like. I feel like I hit, you know, I feel like I hit. And now I'm just, you know, creative people.
Marty O'Neal
As far as being your own boss, you're able to just kind of bounce around as things change. You can adapt and use your relationships.
Concrete Duno
For sure. For sure.
Marty O'Neal
That's what they don't teach you in school.
Concrete Duno
No, they don't teach you that. I mean. No, I mean. I mean, one thing about, you know, I mean. And I worked at the New York Film Academy, just not too far from here, you know, you're really into all this. I worked. Yeah, I was there for four years for cinematography and directing. And I was. I was an assistant. I was in a. I was the assistant for the. For all the cinematography, you know, professors there. And it's funny how I even got that job. Like, I remember I had gotten my first big gig, and it was for this artist named Black Chill. He had a huge record in the 90s. And I remember they called me. They're like, hey, we want you to meet us at. We want you to shoot this big music video. And I was like, hell, yeah, we want you to meet us at Chili's.
Thomas
Oh.
Concrete Duno
And I told my girls, like, babe, they want me to go to Chili's for a meeting. We had never been there. I had never gone there. My girl was like, hurry up, you gotta get dressed.
Thomas
They got dip there.
Concrete Duno
I remember I threw on a collared shirt and everything. And I get there and I'm like, I got my little backpack and I'm on my collared shirt and I roll up and the dudes are, like, in their sandals and shorts. And I was like, okay, it's not that serious. And dude's like, hey, man, we got a budget. It's. It's 10 grand. And I was like, what the 10 grand? They're like, yeah, man, we're gonna set you up in your own crew. Anthony Cook here, Amazing dude. Big old white boy from Cincinnati. Six, five, six. He's like, yeah, I'm going to be your. I'm going to be your first assistant. You know, I'm going to be your producer and first. No, first assistant director. So whatever you need, I got you. And I was like, all right, good, good. I'm glad, you know, Try to play it off. I'm playing it off, right? I'm playing it off. And he keeps calling me about this and that. And I'm like, yeah, perfect.
Thomas
Get that.
Concrete Duno
Do you think we should rent this?
Thomas
Yeah, rent it. It.
Concrete Duno
And we get to the set, and the set isn't downtown LA is. It's. I forgot what this place. But it has a bunch of different sets, like real Hollywood. And I remember we get there at 7am in the morning and the crew's there, and my guy's like, all right, man, the crew's ready for you to let him know what you want him to do or do you want to start? He's like. He said the first scene is the bank robbery. And I was like, good. I was like, well, let's get to work. And the guys are like, well, yeah, so what kind of lights do you want and where do you want him? I was like, a pop. What do you guys think? Like, how do you guys feel about this? You know, Give me something bright there. Yeah, but. Yeah, what do you want? Like a Leo? Do you want a. A, you know, tungsten date? I was like, give me red. I'm just throwing out. And the whole, like, mid. Midway through the day, my boy Anthony Cook comes to me. You know, he. He. He was just a, you know, he. He was just a crew member at that. At that time. He was like, hey, man, you know, the crew's kind of like, complaining a little bit, bro. Like, hey, man, did. Did you go to school for this? And I was like, nah, man. I just know what I want to see on the screen. And he was like, I can tell. He's like, this is what I'm gonna do for you. Whenever you want something, you come to me. You let me know on the side and now communicate that to the crew. And crew lingo.
Thomas
I like that guy.
Concrete Duno
He's like, I'm not gonna put you on the spot, but want. You stay here at the monitor, hold the script, and then you call me whenever you need something. You let me know what you want. So then I started telling him, hey, man, darken this a little bit. Put a green light here, throw some smoke here.
Marty O'Neal
And then he, like, people don't realize there's so much. You have to be expert. So much.
Concrete Duno
Cuz I didn't know that you had to talk to one guy for the lighting. You have to talk to one guy for this and one guy for that. And everybody has a position, right? So he. And then. So that, you know, so that went great. And then he was, you know, you know, the video comes out. It does. You know, this is amazing. I edit it. And then he calls me. He's like, hey, man, dude, I love the way you work. You did a great job with the music video. The artist is happy, the label's happy. I was afraid. But you, You. You pulled it off. But I think you'd be even greater if you got educated. And he's like, look, man, I was like, dude, I don't got money to go to the New York Film academy. That's, you know, 75, 000 a semester. That's the last thing. I. I can't afford that. He's like, no, I'm gonna do something better for you. You. He's like, I'm gonna get you hired as a ta and what you're gonna do is that you're gonna sit in the back of the class and take your notes and take notes and learn the game.
Thomas
You went to school for free and got paid.
Concrete Duno
I got paid to learn and I got paid to go, you know, to be at the universal backlot and do all this. I mean, I knew most of the stuff, but I didn't. I didn't know, like, all the technical. I didn't know the lingo. I didn't, you know, I'm saying, I didn't know a lot of stuff that was gonna propel me to do better gigs and to be a better director.
Marty O'Neal
You don't know.
Concrete Duno
Straight up, bro, you met.
Thomas
BU was just like, yo, pass it on.
Concrete Duno
I'm telling you, family some money. So I owe that out to my boy, you know what I'm saying? Anthony Cush. You still with him? Oh, hell yeah. Hell yeah.
Thomas
That coolest guy.
Concrete Duno
It's. Now we live like two blocks away, you know what I'm saying? So what a G for helping you like that? And. And you know, he. He's. I mean, I remember, dude, Like, I remember, like, even, like, the first day, like, the first week of school. The kids would be like, Mr. Gutierrez, how do we. How do we do this? And I'm like, it's art, baby.
Thomas
How do you feel? It's subjective.
Concrete Duno
It's art subjective. You do your thing, you shoot however you feel. You know what I'm saying? And I'd be looking at my notes and, oh, okay, try this. Oh, you're. You're great. I was like, thank you, man. You're. You're good.
Thomas
You're a good bullshitter, though. I mean. No, no, you know what? You want enough to fluff? It's like the teacher asks, like, who. Well, who is he really at heart? Cuz, have you ever turned in a book report that you didn't read?
Concrete Duno
Oh, yeah, plenty of times.
Thomas
You got a good grade.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, me too. I would be like, the middle. I read the beginning, middle, and the end, and that's it. That's it.
Thomas
But you can your way through life. I'm sorry, if you're in school, but.
Concrete Duno
You and that can. And that's a true story. And I stayed there for four years. I basically got a master's degree. Like, I went to their graduation, like, feeling like I was graduating too, you know, I was right there.
Marty O'Neal
How long into it? So you were like, really? Like, okay, I'm. I'm.
Concrete Duno
The four years.
Marty O'Neal
Yeah.
Concrete Duno
Like, as soon as, like, I started with one class, and that class went through four years. And then when they graduated and they did their thesis film, that's when. That's when I was like, okay, cool, I'm. I'm out.
Thomas
Ready?
Concrete Duno
I'm out. Like, I'm good. Like, I. I think I'm good, you know, so it was. It was amazing. I mean, I. I, you know, never did. I think, like, I used to think Hollywood was miles and miles away. And here I am in the Universal backlot, like, working and teaching kids. And I was like, this is. This is pretty cool, man. This is pretty cool. And in between, you know, like, in between that, I'm still shooting music videos, doing all that. And then, you know, that that was my education to film, you know, to film and cinematography, man.
Thomas
You had a real education, though.
Concrete Duno
Real education. Yeah.
Thomas
You know me, I'm good. I'm very happy that we had to talk about all the. No, because Marty, for Marty's background, he did all this. Rogan for years, he did all the background for everybody.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
Never did on the camera. Now he's on camera doing this.
Concrete Duno
And that helped me. And that like all that helped me to do the skits, bro.
Thomas
I'm telling you, like all the background stuff now you on the show, all the little robot. Oh, yeah, I know you want to smoke. It would have been.
Concrete Duno
I was just figuring you guys were like, like, you guys have primos like cocaine in here. No, we're good.
Marty O'Neal
Oh, I thought he was sober.
Thomas
I thought you just didn't smoke.
Concrete Duno
No, no, I just thought you guys had like cocaine in it. You guys weren't sure.
Thomas
I would have gave it to you.
Concrete Duno
Rude, dude. Now you're good.
Thomas
There's a bunch of weed in my bag.
Concrete Duno
I don't even smoke like that. I don't even smoke like.
Thomas
That's why I want to ask, like, is it cool? Cuz I know I was like, oh, no, I'm good.
Concrete Duno
No, no, no, no, I smoke. Yeah. No, no, no, I smoke. I mean, I'm not, You know, if.
Marty O'Neal
It makes you feel any better, that that set area that I was telling you about earlier by where you're from, I got all my stolen out of that parking lot.
Thomas
Yep. Ah, that's super bowl commercial, dude.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, that makes me feel worse knowing that you got it too.
Marty O'Neal
Now, it wasn't 40k, but we had to re. You know, it is what it is coming. We had.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, yeah. Everything. I, trust me, I, I know that feeling, bro. Like, I. Because you feel like it's like everything you work hard for, bro. And I remember like, dude, like, you gotta understand, like, when I started doing video work, I remember, you know, I had, I had a bunch of odd jobs and I couldn't afford a camera at the time. And I remember, you know, I, I, I had this one. I had a, I had a. What was it? Damn. Damn. What is a accounting job? I had an accounting job at Fayas, but it is in factory to you. I don't know if you guys ever heard of those stories, right? So I did accounting for fat dicks.
Thomas
In the Mexican Ross.
Concrete Duno
No education. So I just let you handle it. But dig, let me tell you how I got the job, right? So I'm down and out, dog. And I go, and I go to the temp agency and in the tape agency, you know how it says, like, what do you know how to do?
Thomas
Staffing solutions.
Concrete Duno
And it's.
Thomas
Yeah, that's where I was at.
Concrete Duno
So I go to staffing solutions right there. And it's like, what do you know how to do? Accounting. Yep.
Thomas
Sure. You just click firefighter.
Concrete Duno
Yep. Law enforcement, psychology, Everything. I know how to do everything, dog. And I Clicked everything. And then. And then a week later, they're like, hey, we have an accounting position that's opened up. You're gonna be working here for 30 days. You know, go do your thing. And I was like, dog, I'm gonna be working for a. For like, a real company, y'all. Like this factory. Like, I shopped there. Food. Like, this is gonna be sick, dog. So I get there and I'm doing the most, like, totem pole, like, just. It's just really, really low level accounting. But anyways, I'm in that, right? And then they start giving me, like, more to do, more heavier. And I don't know what happened, but I. I must have been up the numbers because they called me. They called me into the office, like, right before my 30 days, and like, hey, man, you don't. You know, you've been here for 30 days, man. You've been. Dude, you work fast and you do, and you do good. But this is like, did you go to school for accounting? And I was like, you just keep getting asked the same. I never been. So, like, you should have asked me that on my first day here, dog.
Thomas
Like, do you know what you're doing?
Concrete Duno
No, it was a 90 days right before the 99. Not. Not three months. So I'm there three months. Well, I'm already getting along with all the designers.
Thomas
Like, yeah, what's up?
Concrete Duno
You know, going to lunch with foods. You know, like, I'm already. I. I'm thinking I'm already woven into the system here. I'm thinking I'm good.
Thomas
Is this.
Marty O'Neal
They're calling me for a promotion. Yeah.
Concrete Duno
And they call me on that. On. On. On that last week of the 90 days. Or, hey, big dog. You know, like, hey, the numbers are up. Like, like, what? Nah, now you gotta check it again. Like, nah. Did you. Did you go to school for accounting? I was like, nah. Why? They're like, oh, no, you have to have a degree to go. You know, and this. They're like, and plus, man, like, you know, like, we heard you're, you know, you're doing your acting thing and you want to do videos at the. I was talking to other guys. Yeah, I mean, I heard. And, you know, we, we, we. You should go through that. You know, you should go. The manager that fired me was really cool. You should be so nice.
Thomas
Oh, he did fire you.
Concrete Duno
Oh, no, for sure. That's you.
Thomas
Wait, so.
Concrete Duno
Yes. Yeah, no, but this was like, look, man, here's your last check. He's like, thank you for. Thank you. Yeah. Thank you. He's like, go for it. So go do that, man. You don't want to be here. That's what he told. I swear to God, it's not you, it's me. And I was like, super. All right, well, cool.
Marty O'Neal
You're right.
Concrete Duno
And I remember, I was like, yeah, I gotta get the out of here. What am I doing? And then I remember I took my check on the way home. I called my girl, and I was like, hey, so I'm off of work early for a minute, and I have good news and bad news. And she was like, oh, what's the bad news? And I was like, I got fired. F. What? Nah, don't worry. And I was like, this. The. The good. The good news is that I got to check. And you know how I've been doing those little videos that we were renting the camera for? She was like, yeah. I was like, why don't we just go to Kurasa and get a camera with that, you know, like, you know, with this money? And then. So that's what I did, man. I remember I put 400. We cash a check. We put 400 on a camera that we still owed, like, 300 for. And then we kept 400 for, like, the next two weeks, dog to eat.
Thomas
You know, you're really hustling to figure it out, man.
Concrete Duno
And immediately from me getting. I, like, we literally went to Kurasao that day. The day I got fired, I got the camera and I started making phone calls like, hey, who needs a video?
Marty O'Neal
Yes, that camera will pay for itself.
Concrete Duno
And yeah, I mean, you know, 50 bucks here, 60. 60 bucks there. I mean, I was working a lot, but I started making ends meet in a way, you know, I think it's real.
Thomas
The ongoing theme is like, yo, do you have a degree?
Concrete Duno
Do you know what you're doing?
Thomas
It's incredible, though.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
No, no, I don't speak Spanish. My whole family does. I'm the only one that doesn't, right? I was raised by my mom's side, which is Jewish and white. Trying to translate as a child for my grandpa was the mo. It's like that. Like, do you know what you're doing?
Concrete Duno
Do you know what you're doing?
Thomas
You're trying to translate for the PG E guy. For my grandp of Greg was the most embarrassing in my life because they both looked me like, you don't know what the.
Concrete Duno
You're talking about.
Thomas
Yeah, from two languages. And the white guy's like this little. It's like, I swear to God, Sir, I like the Green Bay Packers. I have no idea what your grandpa's like.
Marty O'Neal
This white boy.
Thomas
That's exactly who. That was my nickname w. My whole life, damn it. So I can't escape it. Yo. I. I love the fact that you don't know what you're doing and. But you're still pulling it off.
Marty O'Neal
Supportive, too.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, for sure. Yes.
Thomas
She sounds very supportive. How long you been with your girlfriend?
Concrete Duno
Third. 14 years of marriage.
Thomas
Nice. I'm 13. 13, same thing.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. 14 years of marriage, man. And, you know, parents are pastors, so I had.
Thomas
Yours or hers?
Concrete Duno
Hers.
Thomas
Same.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. I remember I pulled up to. I. I pulled up, she said, hey, we're having a barbecue. Come down. First time, I was gonna meet her parents and. But hey, come down to.
Thomas
I was like, yeah, so what the.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. I was like, let's go. So I pull up to the barbecue. You. For when I'm chief in the whole way there.
Marty O'Neal
Okay.
Concrete Duno
I'm just blowing trees, dog. I haven't called her to. I was like, hey, I'm outside. She was like, nah, you missed the block. Turn around. I'm fading, dog. So I come back, I park, and she was like, meet me upstairs. I'll be, you know. She's like, like, I'll meet you downstairs. Come and walk up to the front. And I'm walking up to the front, and her mom's coming down.

With, like, some other lady from church. And they smelled it, dog.
Thomas
Oh, no.
Concrete Duno
And she was like, how are you doing? Who are you here to see? I was like, I'm here to see Nick, you. She was like, oh, word, Come here. And then she was like, we're going to pray for you right now. And I got prayed on for like a. Like, they prayed the high out of me, bro. They prayed the high, the munchies, everything out of me, bro. And that was the beginning. That was the beginning. That was the beginning of.
Marty O'Neal
So you met your in laws?
Concrete Duno
That's how I met my in laws.
Thomas
My wife's grandma and grandpa own the church. They live next door to that they're pastors of. And then her mom's parents are also pastors. So When I met them. Yeah. They were adopted by white people.
Marty O'Neal
You're a pothead.
Thomas
Are you a pothead?
Concrete Duno
Exactly, dude.
Thomas
Exactly. Thank you. That's exactly what.
Concrete Duno
Wow.
Thomas
It's so wild. It's exactly the same situation. It's weird as hell, dude. All right, so 4TM about to be 13 next month.
Concrete Duno
So random. They've just become best friends, dude.
Thomas
That's weird as hell. All right, hold on, hold on. All right, real quick. I'm just gonna ask real quick, just because it's not even on my list. What's your top three movies of all time? I usually ask, and I stopped asking recently. It doesn't have to be comedies, but.
Concrete Duno
They can be top three movies of.
Thomas
All time that you can watch over and over and over. How about that?
Concrete Duno
Okay. Casino or Goodfellas?
Thomas
Okay, it counts as one.
Concrete Duno
Okay. Yeah, yeah, I think that.
Thomas
Yeah, we count that as one.
Concrete Duno
It does, right?
Thomas
Can't give it two.
Concrete Duno
Four Ninja Turtles, part one.
Thomas
You want menthols or Regulars?
Marty O'Neal
My wife's name's April O'Neill.
Thomas
That's a true story.
Concrete Duno
Are you serious?
Thomas
His name is Martin Lawrence.
Concrete Duno
Get the O'Neill. Martin Lawrence.
Thomas
Yeah. You have to wait a little bit, and then you add O'Neill at the end.
Concrete Duno
Yo, this be making reservations. And they're all happy. Like, dude, trust me. Who's coming right now? Dude, Martin Lawrence, bro.
Thomas
My uncle Abel has a. Has a homie named Jerry Rice. For six hours straight, he told me Jerry Rice is coming to dinner all juiced.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
Fat white kid watches the end. Oh, I was so pissed. Sorry. Part one is the best. Keep going.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, yeah. Part one. And then I would have to say dumb and dumber. Wow. Yeah.
Marty O'Neal
We're the same guy.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, yeah.
Thomas
We talk about the 90s every five. Every five seconds here. So, yeah. Okay.
Concrete Duno
That's it right there.
Thomas
All right. It's a later question we'll ask. But Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler in the 90s, not knowing anything, you know, now just as a kid, which would you.
Concrete Duno
In the 90s? I'm in the 90s. I'm a kid in the 90s, which you carry hands down.
Thomas
Okay. All right, all right. Why. What. What drove it over for you? Was it the mask? There's got to be one at the end where you're like, he just wins. There's got. Adam Sandler for me, is my favorite. But, yeah, the mask is. Stanley Ipkiss is on is. I have a toy in my office right now.
Concrete Duno
Yes. Yeah. I mean, no. I mean, it was dumb and Dude, Ace Vent Throne part two in Nature Calls. Yeah, that's, you know, talking with your.
Thomas
I think, I think probably wins the 90s for you too.
Marty O'Neal
My 6 year old daughter just watched Ace Venture as she turns around.
Thomas
I didn't show me a video. She's just ass talking in my room.
Concrete Duno
Well, like if you think about the 90s. Yeah. Like I remember in the 90s, like more people recording Jim Carrey than anybody else. That's true.
Marty O'Neal
That's very true.
Concrete Duno
Liar.
Thomas
Liar. Okay, you win. I understand.
Concrete Duno
My favorite. I think so. I think so. I don't know. Right.
Thomas
You know, let's just go straight into it. This is a segment called who were you in the 90s?
Concrete Duno
Okay.
Thomas
And you got to think of it not like you're like, yo, what's P. Diddy? But like, oh, he's great. Puff Daddy's great. But not 20, 24. So you can't think of what you know. Now it has to be 90s. You.
Concrete Duno
Okay, 90s me? Yeah.
Thomas
Only. Are you ready?
Concrete Duno
Too easy. Yeah.
Thomas
McDonald's or Burger King as a kid?
Concrete Duno
McDonald's. Let's go.
Thomas
Because the toys, obviously.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
All right. Do you remember them getting. Do you remember VHS is at McDonald's. You could buy a Vorine's World.
Concrete Duno
No. Damn.
Thomas
Nah, it was orange. Okay, I have it. All right, so nobody remembers this.
Concrete Duno
I remember the 29 cent burgers.
Thomas
I remember 39 cents Sundays.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, yeah, I remember those days.
Thomas
Okay, Freddy Krueger. Or it. The original it though, like Freddy Krueger. Okay. Scarier or you just liked him better.
Concrete Duno
Character was, was, was all around like scary and funny. He was a little funny, but Fred was hilarious.
Thomas
It was funny as hell too.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, I get.
Thomas
Yeah, Tim Curry was funny. He was a clown.
Marty O'Neal
You want to give him your theory on Freddie and Mexicans?
Thomas
Yes. I don't think Freddy Krueger could have lasted in any other neighborhood. Like, if you think about it, he can only get you in your sleep. And if he catches my dad or cousin on week three of no sleep, what's really gonna happen? He's just gonna be sitting there for weeks going, this motherfucker still twacked. I haven't got him. I'm just sitting here bored. Now, if you think about Freddy Krueger trying to go into an active neighborhood, what happens? And it's not just the whitewashed neighborhood he keeps attacking over and over. Move. Fucking move.
Marty O'Neal
Yeah, people, never.
Thomas
He doesn't leave the town. Just move.
Concrete Duno
Sorry, but was he just attacking people on Elm Street?
Thomas
Yeah, his name on Elm street, right?
Concrete Duno
Yeah, well, I mean, there was, like, five of them, I think. All the other ones weren't on Elm Street.
Thomas
I thought they were all on Elm Street. I just remember the 90s, and he's just always stabbing white kids. It's never anybody but white athletes and. Yeah, and cheerleaders. All right, well. Yeah, and Mexicans. He would never last in my. In Merced, California.
Concrete Duno
So we were from Merced. You know who?
Thomas
Merced, California.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
Normal, he said, you know, nobody knows what the. Merced. Yeah, that's where I'm from.
Concrete Duno
Oh, sick.
Marty O'Neal
Good old Merced right behind him.
Concrete Duno
This is. This is Merced right here.
Thomas
Seriously, I grew up right there on that little block.
Concrete Duno
Really? Yeah.
Thomas
That's West Merced right there. This is Buffalo, where Marty grew up.
Concrete Duno
No lie.
Thomas
Like, we had somebody come and put the map on the wall. It. And over there is where you get with me, right?
Concrete Duno
Swear to God, you guys really got. Okay, you guys, that's downtown Buffalo.
Thomas
Downtown Buffalo. And this is Merced, California.
Concrete Duno
California.
Thomas
And right there is 6th street, where I grew up at. Yeah, Merced. You played shows there or something?
Concrete Duno
Yeah, I've done shows there.
Thomas
Where? Like, what, theater?
Concrete Duno
Yeah, theater. Right. Yeah.
Thomas
Oh, the. The refurbished one. Sorry, I'm burnt.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, that's true. It's a nice.
Marty O'Neal
Never mind.
Concrete Duno
It's massive.
Thomas
It. Actually, it's the old theater that's haunted as where my stepbrother got stuck on the guardrail where we had to wait for the fire department. That place. All right, ready up next. Full House or Family Matters?
Concrete Duno
Family Matters.
Thomas
Let's go. Just because Urkel's cooler, right?
Concrete Duno
Yeah. Stefan.
Thomas
Stefan or Kel?
Concrete Duno
Stefan. Yeah, yeah, Stefan. He's too cool, man. I wanted to be Stefan. I was like, where can we buy that machine?
Thomas
Yeah, it's the name of my pipe, because it's cool. My weed pipe. Biggie Smalls or Tupac? It's a little hard. I know you're from the west coast, but it's. But as a kid, yeah, I think I was ignorant.
Marty O'Neal
He seems very subjective.
Thomas
Yeah, I think I was ignorant as a kid, though. My mom was ignorant.
Concrete Duno
Fun fact. My first city I've ever bought was Biggie C. Nice. But, yeah, it would get ready to die, but then became a huge Tupac fan when the. You know, all eyes on me. And then I. I was able to, you know, once I heard, like, you know, so many tears, I was, like, crying, like, nine. Crying for no reason.
Thomas
My mom's here.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. I'm like. I'm rapping, like, if I'M really going through all that. You know, I had great parents.
Thomas
Like, that's what I'm saying. Like, all the heartaches and.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, yeah.
Thomas
That's what I think about when people listen to Lincoln park when I was in, like, fifth grade. Like, bro, we're all fine.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. We all live next to each other, hugging them. Yeah.
Thomas
My first CD was a Bloodhound Gang. I ever bought.
Concrete Duno
Remember?
Thomas
Bloodhound Gang. Hooray for Boobies. First album I ever bought. You remember them?
Concrete Duno
No. Do you remember that?
Marty O'Neal
I remember the music video. Them in the dog suits and.
Concrete Duno
Right.
Thomas
Oh, that. Yeah, that, that. The mammal song.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, yeah.
Thomas
But the album was sick. I'll show you. I'll show you.
Concrete Duno
All right.
Thomas
All right. VH1 or MTV as a kid?
Concrete Duno
Oh, MTV. Yeah. I mean, that's. Yeah, yeah. It's easy.
Thomas
We only had one person save each one. Ever.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, it was. Yeah.
Thomas
Is it Dr. Drew?
Marty O'Neal
Probably.
Thomas
Yeah. Nobody else has ever said VH1 in their life. All right, we talked about this earlier. I'm saying Jim Carrey. You're going Jim Carrey. Okay, this is always the question. Pulp Fiction or Forrest Gump?
Concrete Duno
I'm going Forrest Gump dog. I'm going Forrest Gump. Yeah, too. For sure.
Thomas
Also, Jenny's a. Here we go. Nesquik or Sunny D. And we're talking about the commercials. Kinda. The Sunny D commercials or the Light Skin Rabbit commercials where he was like, scooping with you. Like, you tell me.
Concrete Duno
I would say Sunny D because Nesquik wasn't like. We didn't drink Nesquis. We. We know, like, we drank. Yeah, but like, the commercials received. Yeah.
Thomas
If we'll be surfing on.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, no, I like the Sunny D stuff.
Thomas
I like the Capri sun commercials.
Concrete Duno
We should put. That's the famous one. Purple stuff. No, it's Sunny D. Sunny D. Yeah. That's just hard. We should.
Thomas
We should add a Capri sun in.
Concrete Duno
There because that commercial went hard forever. It was. I remember, like, that was on TV.
Marty O'Neal
For, like, years and years that coined the term purple.
Thomas
Purple stuff.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, Yeah. I mean. I mean, Chappelle had a joke about that.
Thomas
There was a. I thought you're about to pull up a purple stuff tattoo.
Concrete Duno
I swear to God, I thought that's.
Thomas
What you were about to do right now.
Marty O'Neal
Drink Purple store.
Thomas
I just watched this thing on YouTube and it said three hours of 1990s Saturday morning.
Concrete Duno
I love it.
Thomas
And there was no breaks. It was commercials. If somebody from 1991 just filmed three hours of a morning, I watched Hot Wheel Commercials. I watched Gak. Nickelodeon. Gak.
Concrete Duno
That came.
Thomas
Oh, blew my mind. You weren't. Did his mouth.
Concrete Duno
Fucking dope. Shit.
Thomas
R.L. stein, the intro of Goosebumps scared the out of me.
Concrete Duno
It was good. It was good.
Thomas
It was like the beating of Tales from the.
Concrete Duno
Have you seen the episodes lately? Because my kids been watching them. Like, no. Damn, that was cheesy.
Thomas
Oh, you talking about the old ones.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, yeah.
Thomas
Night and Terror Tower is still scary, though. Do you remember at the end, the parents are dead. There's no solution. The parents just died.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's good. Scary dude. Not. That's good.
Thomas
Living dummy's still scary. I don't care what anybody says. All right, that concludes. Who were you in the 90s?
Concrete Duno
Good.
Thomas
Thank you.
Concrete Duno
So who am I? Phone. What do you guys have, like a tally or what is it?
Thomas
No, I just want to know who you are as a person.
Concrete Duno
Okay. Got it. That's it.
Thomas
I thought there was a little trophy.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, yeah. Thanks, man.
Thomas
Ass fool. You said Jim Carrey.
Concrete Duno
Sliding the PNG right there, my G. Yo.
Thomas
Good, good.
Concrete Duno
No, it was. That was dope. Who were you?
Thomas
The nineties? I love it.
Marty O'Neal
When you were talking about earlier about, like, being apprehensive about standup. When did that change or did it ever?
Concrete Duno
When I started doing the stuff with Alos Toxicos and then. And, you know, you gradually get better. You know, I think, like, you know, I caught the bug as, you know, as they would say, you know, I just. I was just like, all right, cool. Like, you see the reaction from people and you're like, yo, this is cool. You know what I'm saying? I mean, I think to some degree, most comedians, you know, like, we're people pleasers. We want to make people laugh. So, like, once I saw that and I got that, it was like a chain react, you know? Yeah. I was like, I like the feeling different. Yeah.
Marty O'Neal
Is it like your favorite thing to do now?
Concrete Duno
No, I mean, it's. It's all. Everything's like.
Marty O'Neal
It's all the same.
Concrete Duno
It's all the same.
Marty O'Neal
I feel you.
Concrete Duno
I mean, I like. I love doing everything just as much as, you know, me shooting a video or doing a commercial or doing a skit or whatever the case, you know, I think it's. It's. It's just. It's just getting that entertainment down. That's it.
Thomas
And we've learned today that you just like to do. That's just to get it done and have fun, bro.
Concrete Duno
I don't know. Yeah. Next week I might Skydive. I don't know, bro. We'll see what happens. You know?
Thomas
Yo, I feel so bad that I was sitting here smoking a Joe and I thought you didn't smoke weed.
Concrete Duno
No. Yeah, Take this.
Thomas
This is. Here's a little zip. Please take that home. Just smoke it later. I feel so terrible. I'm sorry, dude. Just smoke that later.
Concrete Duno
Oh, why are you gonna give this.
Thomas
I was gonna give you weed anyway, but. Okay, I would have just saying, like, just take that home.
Concrete Duno
No, this is good.
Thomas
I feel terrible, man.
Concrete Duno
Don't feel terrible.
Thomas
What?
Concrete Duno
No, dude, I got we kidding people highest. Even when I just smoked food, I've been like, there's hella hash in here.
Thomas
That's why.
Concrete Duno
Oh, is that what it is? Yeah.
Thomas
No.
Concrete Duno
Wonderful. But I did. I did zone Allah like four times from. I was like. And then I came back to you and you, like, asking me some other Jim Carrey. Yeah. Yeah. Food sounds good, huh?
Marty O'Neal
Do you.
Concrete Duno
That's all right.
Marty O'Neal
Do you like psychedelics at all?
Concrete Duno
I had a really bad trip as a kid, so. Nah.
Thomas
Oh, when's a. As a kid?
Concrete Duno
Like, how long? Oh, I was like 14 or something. Yeah, yeah.
Thomas
That would do it to you.
Concrete Duno
It wasn't cool, man.
Thomas
So what garage were you in?
Concrete Duno
Oh, dude, I was in in every dimension.
Marty O'Neal
Dog was a trunks.
Concrete Duno
It was like. It was like a tea, I think, but of mushrooms. Yeah.
Thomas
My first trip was 14, but the best ever. And that's why I keep eating them.
Concrete Duno
Oh, yeah.
Thomas
I've been eating them since 14, so.
Concrete Duno
I was bugging, dude.
Marty O'Neal
How. How long did it last?
Thomas
Hours. Deep cheapo chicken coop kind of thing or.
Concrete Duno
No, I was supposed to sit the tea, fool. I chugged it.
Marty O'Neal
Oh, no.
Concrete Duno
Oh, no. I would say probably like a quarter of a Gatorade.
Thomas
Did someone have to save you?
Concrete Duno
Yeah, Food paramedics.
Thomas
Yeah. Now the embarrassment, straight up, like, yeah.
Concrete Duno
Get him off the tree.
Thomas
Oh, no. This was butt naked grinding on trees. Why are you pissing in the refrigerator? That's not that bad. Once the outside public comes, then you're.
Concrete Duno
Like, oh, yeah, that's what my.
Thomas
When I'm on mushrooms, my situation is like, I hope I don't have to deal with the public. Yeah, that's where I'm like, what if I just, like, in my pants or something?
Concrete Duno
I want to be in a room. And that's what I do.
Thomas
Sit in a dark room, trip out like a gargoyle. And that's how I feel.
Concrete Duno
Like I'm morphing Gargoyles in the 90s.
Thomas
That was a scary show. They just sat there and just stared at things.
Concrete Duno
They crumbled. Yeah, the intro and. Yeah, it was creepy, man. All right, you know. You know. All right.
Thomas
You remember Fern Gully?
Concrete Duno
No.
Thomas
You have kids. You should go watch it.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, you'll remember Fern Gully.
Thomas
You'll remember from the 90s.
Concrete Duno
You remember Ghost Rider?
Thomas
Yeah, you know, I. Ghost Rider. No, not with Nicholas Cage.
Concrete Duno
No, no, not that one TV show. Right, The TV show, dog. Yeah, yeah.
Marty O'Neal
It was like Goosebumps adjacent.
Concrete Duno
What? Yeah, Ghost Rider.
Thomas
No, I don't remember this.
Marty O'Neal
Yeah, didn't it have a little. I had like, a recorder.
Thomas
No, I wish I did. I have a great master. What the just happened? Remember Page master Macaulay Culkin, when he writes the books and it comes. It goes in the car.
Concrete Duno
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Let's go.
Thomas
All right, all right. I just want to feel you out as a person.
Marty O'Neal
Yeah.
Concrete Duno
All right.
Thomas
You know, some good, man.
Marty O'Neal
Yeah.
Thomas
Okay.
Concrete Duno
We're just like 90s history battling right now, dog.
Thomas
I just want to know.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, what do you want to people to loca, dog.
Thomas
Like, do you remember all that? I just want to make sure that I'm not tripping. It was real. All right, well, no, you. Tonight, you're going to be at prayer, right? Go straight from here.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, yeah. I'm with my boy Duno out there. He's headlining the show. He's going to come over there and host for him and. Yeah, man, last time I chilled with.
Thomas
Duno, I got him so high and he didn't even smoke. And it was the weirdest thing.
Marty O'Neal
Oh, yeah.
Thomas
Remember that?
Concrete Duno
Was he all, like, just.
Thomas
He was so. We did an episode on. On his. On his show, and he got so secondhand high, like, he was done. And I've never gotten someone that high up that didn't smoke weed with me. It was funny. Then we ate pizzas.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. All right. That was it. No, I got it.
Thomas
Don't. I got some stuff for you to take, too. I can't believe that.
Concrete Duno
Let's do it. Let's do it.
Thomas
All right. Well, for everyone that wants to follow and see everything.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. Thank you.
Thomas
Where can they find you?
Concrete Duno
Just go to Concrete Live on Instagram. It's Concrete Comedy, I believe. And then on YouTube, you can go to Concrete Comedy as well.
Thomas
Did you do any live streaming or anything like that?
Concrete Duno
I just do, like, little baby podcasts, something crazy, you know. Cool. I'm trying it out. I'm trying it out. How.
Thomas
How often do you drop to us?
Concrete Duno
Twice a week.
Thomas
Damn. What's it called?
Concrete Duno
Perrito's only podcast.
Thomas
Jesus Christ. Twice a week.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, yeah, twice a week. It's been pretty cool, man. We actually, we, you know, we. In one month, we gained about 18, 000 subscribers. Let's go, dude. So that's. I mean, I think we're like at 23 or something like that right now. So we've been like. You're really doing it. We've been celebrating every thousand. Right, like, sir. Yeah. Because like once we like went super consistent on it and we're like, okay, cool. We're gonna make it a point to make it to do everything. It's a part of the schedule now. It's good, dude.
Thomas
That's a big jump just starting off.
Concrete Duno
Yeah. And we're like, all right, cool. You know, not bad. So hopefully you guys are like killing it, dude.
Thomas
You know, I appreciate you, man.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, you guys are killing it, man. I was.
Thomas
And everybody can Support on. On YouTube that way, right? Or are you on Spotify?
Concrete Duno
No, I'm not on Spotify.
Thomas
Please get on Spotify. Just do it.
Concrete Duno
Because I want people to come and subscribe first.
Thomas
Okay, that's fair. That's. That is fair.
Marty O'Neal
Where's the name come from?
Concrete Duno
What?
Marty O'Neal
The Parito's only.
Concrete Duno
But it was only, man. That's just, you know, that's just the homies only. Yeah, man. Homies only, man. Perito. That's my dogs. My dogs, you know. Yeah.
Thomas
And the gear, obviously you can go grab that too at the website.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, man. Yeah, man. Merch on. You go to the link in bio on my Instagram Lincoln bio on tick tock and YouTube and you can grab the merch from there, man. We got hats, we got sweaters.
Thomas
We'll link it in the description of what we're doing, but.
Concrete Duno
But forever.
Thomas
What's the actual website in case they're not like looking at the link?
Concrete Duno
I think it's concretemerch.com. is that what it is?
Marty O'Neal
Concrete.bigcartel.com.
Concrete Duno
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Good.
Thomas
Shop Network or the Shop.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, Shop Network.
Thomas
Good man. All right, well, I'm really excited that you have so much going on, dude. Like, like I'm saying, like, you only see the outside. You don't really get to see every single part of it. Marty and I interview a lot of people and it's really fun to see somebody that knows what the they're doing behind the camera too. It's a. It's a whole different appreciation because you know how long it takes to edit.
Concrete Duno
Yeah.
Thomas
A 20 second clip might take you 40 minutes. It might take you forever.
Concrete Duno
It does, it does, it does.
Thomas
Brought my.
Marty O'Neal
It's inspiring for people behind the camera too, to be like, look, want to. I could get in front of the camera too, if that's in me also, you know.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, for sure.
Marty O'Neal
Just play one role. I can be all up in this whole production.
Thomas
I mean, dude, you're in front on the side editing everything and the direction. You did the whole directing thing without knowing what you wanted yet.
Concrete Duno
Like, oh, for sure.
Thomas
You can really do this if you cave, if you really care about the end result, you know what you want to get to. Like you said, I know what I want it to look like.
Concrete Duno
That's it. That's the same.
Thomas
I don't know what it's called.
Concrete Duno
I just know the end result. Like, this is what I wanted, you know.
Marty O'Neal
And all those years in music set the foundation for this personality, who you are today that like, translates to comedy.
Concrete Duno
Yeah, for sure. Yeah, man. I was able to just learn how to, you know, rock a mic, man, and, you know, try to be in it, you know, be entertaining with the mic. Even without music in between the music and all that good stuff, you know, I mean, obviously rapping and, and stand up is two totally different worlds. There's no, there's no, you know, music. There's no beat in the background to guide you. It's just kind of like it's all your timing and everything, everything. So it, it definitely, it's hard work. But yeah, man, everything's. Everything has, has helped me get to where I am now and it's subtle results.

DOPE AS USUAL Podcast Episode Summary: "How to Go Viral w/ Concrete"
Release Date: October 23, 2024
Host/Authors: Thomas and Marty O'Neal
Guest: Concrete Duno
In this engaging episode of the DOPE AS USUAL Podcast, hosts Thomas and Marty O'Neal sit down with Concrete Duno, a multifaceted entertainer known for his contributions to music, filmmaking, and now, comedy. With a background spanning over a decade in various facets of the entertainment industry, Concrete shares his journey of evolving from a rapper and music video director to becoming a viral sketch comedian.
Concrete's foray into the entertainment world began early. Initially passionate about rapping, he soon transitioned into filmmaking, spending 12 years shooting and directing music videos, documentaries, and films. Reflecting on his early days, Concrete mentions:
“I went from rapping early on, and then I started shooting, directing music videos, documentaries, films.” [01:35]
His dedication led him to work with various artists, helping them realize their creative visions. Concrete recalls his first taste of DJing at the age of 12, working diligently to support himself and his passion:
“It ended up being like a baptism, dude. And there was like 200 people… and I get there and the dad's like, where's the DJ? And I start playing and people are jamming.” [05:00]
Concrete's journey wasn't without its hurdles. In 2008, the tragic loss of his best friend and manager to an overdose profoundly impacted him, leading him to question his path in the rap industry:
“And when he passed away, I was kind of like, all this rap, I don't want to do it no more. It just seemed like boring to me.” [14:59]
Additionally, navigating the rap scene exposed him to negativity and the superficiality of relationships within the industry:
“People were like, well, he's not doing rap no more… You started seeing the facade of what happens when life is going good for you in entertainment.” [15:58]
Determined to reinvent himself, Concrete shifted his focus back to filmmaking, leveraging his extensive experience to create compelling content. In 2010, he began producing music videos for artists like Peso Pluma, witnessing their meteoric rise and feeling a sense of accomplishment:
“Peso Pluma's videos weren't big because they didn't have a big budget... I have a fingerprint on his career.” [32:00]
This phase of his career not only honed his technical skills but also solidified his desire to entertain audiences through visual storytelling.
The turning point in Concrete's career came when he experimented with social media content creation. Facing setbacks like equipment theft, he turned to Instagram to share reaction videos and skits, which quickly garnered attention:
“I posted a video on Instagram… it was like 200 comments, 5,000 likes. And that was like, I caught the bug.” [39:02]
Embracing his passion for comedy, Concrete began crafting humorous skits, focusing on authenticity and laughter rather than mere monetization:
“The funny comes first, bro. Not the money.” [42:02]
