I wanted to find them when they was just in a big school somewhere.

Well, no, no, because I, you know, I grew up on Black Bow, which is in buff. Shreveport, about 30 miles in Vivian. Vivian area. But they, we had big chinky pins in that thing. I mean, big ones, you know, but the only time you could catch them, when it was on the beds.

I know.

Yeah, that's what I would like to figure out. You only move at night and them suckers can do some damage.

Oh, yeah.

Beavers have killed more timber than the timber industry.

Yeah, well, let me tell you.

Hey, and they have made some beautiful lakes though.

Yeah. Make good duck holes.

But the problem is at my neighborhood pond now we got a beaver. And you want to talk about Slick because he ain't living everywhere. He ain't living there. He just come and all down and then he leaves.

[Si Robertson]

No, no. The coolest film I ever watched about a beaver. Yo, the guy's got a long range camera, you know, and he's, he's looking 5, 6, 700 yards down through the woods. And it's a little trickle of water about, oh, maybe a foot wide, just going down through the wood drain. Then you can see something moving, but you can't see it clearly. You could just tell there's movement. Well, it finally gets up there where you can identify it's two beavers. And they're walking in the little water and they finally come up where they want to put the dam and then they start working. And then it fast forward, this thing runs like for six months. It starts out with two and then the next thing you see is there is a dam that has been built that's 350 yards long and about 15ft high. And then there's just a gorgeous lake behind it. Cypress trees, there's deer drinking and big Canadian honkers coming in and lighting fish popping. Y' all just, you know, unreal.

Well, that's a good film. But you got any tips for getting rid of this thing at the neighborhood pond if he ain't living?

Well, there's, there's a couple of ways you can do it.

Jungle jelly. Yeah, I know you're.

Oh, oh, yeah. No, you could give with fire. You'd have to find where he lives, find his little hut and then burn him out. But hey, or, or you could go out at night. Okay. Because that's when they work. Okay. Yeah, go at night with like a 223 or 30 out 6, whatever you want to use. Y' all catch him out there on the water and go and pop him like you do a big gator.

Well, you won't go out there.

I'll shoot him.

Me and you sit there all night, I shoot him. We ain't going to be able to listen to music. We have to be quiet, huh? You got to be quiet. To hunt them thing now, you just.

Had to be camouflaged.

Oh, you just got to go. You just got to go.

At night you dress as one of their cousins.

[Jase Robertson]

There you go. Then he'll come a running.

[Godwin]

That is you in a beaver costume, that is.

Yeah. Oh, crap. It's one of. I have that one saved.

I'm always dressing up boys as.

I like that just. And it says all crap. And I send that one to way too many people.

And it didn't even make sense when you sent it.

I had a buddy of mine look.

It makes me laugh when I see it. So that's why I do it.

Hey, he owned the old river on Red River. The river had cut and left and just left. Beautiful old river there, y' all. And. And. And he wanted to drain it. He was going. He was going to, you know, plow it up and and plant stuff there. He was going to drain it. But they went down. Him and his foreman went down there one day with a couple of boxes of dynamite. You know, it's a big beaver dam. He put a bunch of dynamite and blew it. You know, log went everywhere, water started flowing, you know, and so they left, come back the next morning, look, and they built it back overnight. He had about 20 acres of timber.

[Willie Robertson]

Yeah.

[Si Robertson]

Over pretty close, you know, so they weren't paying attention. So, hey, they built it back. So, hey, he told, you know, his former. Go get some more dynamite. I'm going to drain this and I'm going to plant stuff there.

[Willie Robertson]

Is that not one of the best things ever?

[Si Robertson]

But anyway, hey, they kept blowing this down. But next thing on. Hey, he said, the foreman told the boss, said, hey, have you drove. Driven by your timber lately? And the guy said, no. He said, you don't have any more. He said, what do you mean I don't have any more? He said, that's how they're building it back overnight. He said they're cutting the timber down and, you know, so they. They 20 acres of timber.

20 acres.

[Si Robertson]

The only way you either got to trap them and take them somewhere else or kill them because you're not going to stop a beaver from bacon ate.

[Jase Robertson]

That gets me. It don't matter if it's coming in or going out.

[Si Robertson]

Oh, yeah. If it's leaving or coming in, they're going to stop.

[Jase Robertson]

If it's moving, they going to stop.

[Si Robertson]

They going to stop it.

[Willie Robertson]

Yeah, that's the problem. Duck hunt. When you try to put water on it, they don't want it going there.

Yeah. Then I don't want. They don't want to allow you get it there.

And then once you get it there, they're like, well, no, that's pretty cool. Let's, let's. We don't want it to leave.

You know the sound of running water, you know, by a creek or something. That's pretty soothing. Yeah, not to them. They hate it.

Yeah, they hate the sound of that. You think it makes them pee too.

God put it in that beaver. Okay, look. And hey, you know what? What are them things? Transom. Is that what they shoot to level make? See where the lowest part is?

But anyway, that's built in apparatus. That's built into a beaver. Oh, you don't need any kind of technology.

When he's on the ground, he knows, hey, this is the lowest pot in this area.

That's because he went up there and he gnawed on the tree mark when the water was up.

[Si Robertson]

Well, no, no, Phil right there, like.

Us tying flagging tape.

He was talking. He got involved. He had to get a permit. And so he got involved with the corps of engineers, you know, and he asked a question about, you know, they asked question, well, did you have it? People come in and make sure this is the lowest part and fail live. And he said, no. I said, I checked with the ones that really already know it. And the guy said, what are you talking about? He said, hey, the beaver put the dam here. This is the lowest part. Trust me when I tell you. So they didn't believe it. So they brought a guy out, was a machine, you know.

Yeah.

[Si Robertson]

And he said, well, you was right. Phil said, oh, I had no doubt that I knew I was right. Okay.

[Willie Robertson]

It's about like the ninjas. The suckers only work at night and they're hard.

[Godwin]

Somebody has made a habit of putting inspirational quotes of psy on inspirational regular quotes of psy and putting them on inspirational platforms.

I like it. Hey, you know, he's not wrong.

They are hard to find.

Oh, that was like. We was on talking about something and. And I said something, or Philip said it. I think Philip brought it up. If it's known, it's manageable.

Then when we did the research, Philip said, hey, I found out where that came from. And I said, where? He said, your book. And I said, get out of here. You're pulling my leg. I'm telling you. He said, you was the one that came up with that.

I said, well, hey, what is known is manageable.

Yeah, that's pretty.

So what we need to find out is where the beaver is so we can manage it.

Well, and that's why I got a trail camera out.

But he had fixed to be known.

Yeah, he ain't dumb enough to walk in front of him. I went to his most recent cut and thinking he would come back here.

He got like three quarters of that cypress tree cut and he ain't been back.

Oh. So I was at last night. Oh no.

I was telling people, I said me and Martin are like kind of weird friends because sometimes I want to tell Martin a story, but then I'm like, well, I have to wait for the podcast. So I get his honest reaction if it's funny. But every once in a while, we'll talk on the phone. And Martin calls me last night while he's giving his kids a bath. And I was, you know, I don't even know where my kids are at because they can wipe their own butts and stuff, which is a magical age. And so all of a sudden I hear, oh no, oh no, no, no, no.

[Si Robertson]

In the tub.

[Godwin]

And I was like, oh, goodness, what's. What's happened? And I got. It was sheer panic out of the voice of Martin, which I've never heard before. And he goes, man, I gotta go. Waylon's covered in his own crap again. And he hung up. On me. And I haven't talked or seen Martin since that moment.

[Willie Robertson]

Yeah.

[Godwin]

What happened, Martin?

[Willie Robertson]

So mom went on a walk, which she does. I mean, we do this pretty much every evening. Like, I get home, she go. And she gets home, whatever. She goes, walk. Because I don't want her walking in the dark or whatever. So I'm like, yeah, go ahead. I got the boys, and I was running the bath and cleaning up their high chairs. We just got done with dinner and all the things, and I'm vacuuming, but I was talking to you, like, And I just hear a shriek. And I'm like, what in the world? Like, why is. What. What? Why is this sound coming out of Whaley? I mean, I knew it was him. And then I turned around and looked, and he had a brown finger in the air, checking the wind, and all I heard was poo poo. And I said, that's when I said, oh, God. Because then at that point, I looked. I looked at his finger, and then I looked at him, and I saw little streaks. And I said, oh, no. Oh, no. I'm surprised. I thought the last thing you heard me say was, don't put it in your mouth.

[Godwin]

I was laughing too hard because his.

[Willie Robertson]

Hand was headed towards his face.

[Si Robertson]

And I was like, this is not candy.

[Willie Robertson]

I was like. I mean, I was gagging and dry heaving. Like, I mean, I don't mind poopy diapers.

[Godwin]

Like, white, no diaper or something else.

[Willie Robertson]

Once it goes other places, we got a problem, and it's human. And I mean, I was just like. I just asked him, I said, why did you do that? And he looked at me and he said, poo. Poo stink. I was like, so you decided to touch it?

[Si Robertson]

Hey, yeah, he's gonna find out. Let's see, Jack.

[Willie Robertson]

And then to top it all off, Jackson just standing there watching everything, you know? And then I look over at him, and his rear end is as big as this yeti cup. And he said, I done dropped two deuces on me while I'm alone. One of them covered in it and the other one just standing there like, boy, I'm glad I didn't touch mine.

It was so fun.

[Willie Robertson]

I mean, why would he do that? It was full blown disinfectant. I got them into the bathtub after cleaning them, and Brittany walks in about right when I get done. Perfect timing. Just like a rainbow. Show up after the storm.

[Si Robertson]

Oh, no.

Yeah.

And I see a conspiracy.

[Willie Robertson]

Yeah, I know. I was like, what are you doing waiting out there? And she just walked in she said, it smells like poop in here.

Yeah. I said, yeah, I see a conspiracy here, boys.

And she said, why did you change clothes? I said, because I didn't know if Waylon got any. That was on his finger on me or not. And that was not a chance.

I was willing to washing machine.

Like, I mean, because I'm holding him out.

Like, she go walk every time right after dinner.

No, I mean, she generally goes like before they sit down to eat. Like their poop time is not dinner after dinner. That is not.

That was a new.

That is not. Well, when I picked him up from my mom's yesterday, because she keeps them on days Brittany works. She said, neither one of them's pooped. I said, oh, Lord.

Oh, boy.

I mean, they're. They're pretty regular, but they just. At moms, they. They play more. She just got more area out there. So they play outside. And if they're outside, they generally don't take a dump. Like, they don't take a dump till they come inside and get cooled off. Which I can appreciate that, like, sweaty.

Dumps are no good.

Yeah, it's no good, but it was.

Actually, if you're going to do it in your pants.

But when she told me that when I picked them up, I said, oh, Lord, it's coming at some point. Oh, I just never dreamed that Wayland's pointer finger.

Would have been. Well, I'm glad I walked out.

I said, allison, guess what Martin just said right before he hung up on me.

Waylon is obsessed with poop right now for some. Like, if Jackson takes a poop, he goes over there and, like, he'll pull his diaper back and say, poo. Poo, Poo, poo. I don't know what. And then whenever you change a name, he said, I want to see it. I want to see. I'm like, why? What. What is the. What's this new infatuation here? Yeah, what is the. I don't know. Well, Ben's wakes me up and said he threw up. And I'm like, huh? And I. I was like, all right, let me go clean it. And I fell back asleep, and then I got punched by my wife, who said, are you really going back to sleep? I said, my bad. I'm getting up. I go upstairs, I get. There's puke everywhere. And I'm like, why is there so much puke here? And it's because the boy ate a whole strawberry pie for dinner, and he learned a lesson. Why are you two looking at each other like that?

I just. I just got a cold sweat. But I'll. We'll talk about that in a minute. God.

So Ben's is puked all over his sheets. There's some clothes. And I'm like, all right, let me get all this. And I just go throw it in the washing machine, Throw some soap in there, start it, go back upstairs to check on Ben's, get him back in bed. And there's more puke.

Oh, no.

[Godwin]

And then there's more puke.

[Willie Robertson]

Oh, no.

[Godwin]

And the kid doesn't eat. And I'm like, how did. What have you done? And he's like, I don't know. And I said, what you eat for dinner? He goes, one piece of strawberry pie. But it was pretty big, so he done snuck a bunch.

It was one serving.

[Si Robertson]

Yeah, I had a piece of pie.

[Willie Robertson]

He said there was a half a pie left, but I didn't cut it. So it was one piece.

[Godwin]

Yeah. And then he went and got on a Rollerblades and a Segway and churned everything up and went to bed all sweaty and woke up and just puked everywhere. So then I'm like, well, dead gum. There's a pillow covered in. I mean, I'm. There's puke everywhere. The toilet's full. I just throw the pillow in the shower, hose it down, threw it away the next day at the dumpster. Then I go downstairs, because now I got more clothes, more blankets, and I got to get them in the washing machine.

[Willie Robertson]

Yeah. And.

[Godwin]

And the washing machine will not open.

[Willie Robertson]

All you got to do is hit stop, right?

[Godwin]

I did. And then it still won't open. And I'm like, well, something's messed up. So I reach in there, pop. And I opened it.

[Willie Robertson]

Oh.

[Si Robertson]

And then.

[Godwin]

And then now the washing machine won't start. And at this point, my wife, who was already annoyed with me for falling asleep, walks in and goes, what have you done? And why is there soap everywhere? I said, I don't know. I'm trying to get it started. It won't start everything. And so then at some point, I just gave up and I hand washed all the puke clothes in the sink, in the.

[Willie Robertson]

Well, you leaving out one key part in the kitchen.

[Godwin]

Well, so then I was trying to start it. And you know, sometimes at 1:30 in the morning, your best judgment is not there.

[Willie Robertson]

Yeah.

[Godwin]

And I got so angry, I hit the start button.

[Willie Robertson]

Hit it?

[Godwin]

No, I punched the fire out of it.

[Jase Robertson]

Did it come on?

[Willie Robertson]

Nope, still didn't come.

[Godwin]

And I was like, just start. Boom. And I was like, did I just do that? And then my wife walks in and said, what have you done? And I said, I'm going to go order a new washing machine.

[Willie Robertson]

Why, as humans, do we feel like that helps?

[Godwin]

I don't know.

[Willie Robertson]

Yeah, I mean, like, I literally, even when your truck, like, if you got a dead battery or something, it won't crank, what's first you hit, like, the steering wheel or something. Like, well, what's that going to do? Well, for me, it ain't a flashlight.

[Godwin]

It costs.

[Willie Robertson]

You can't hit the batteries and get seven more seconds of light out of it. Like, I had to.

[Godwin]

And then the Lowe's delivery man that two days later, because I was like, I could probably get this fixed, but that's going to take a week. And every time my wife needs to do laundry, she's going to get mad at me. So at 1:30 in the morning, 1, I bought a new washing machine to be delivered tomorrow, which turns out two days later if it's 1:30 in the morning. And then, yeah, the Lowe's delivery guy was like, what happened to the old one? I said, long story, lots of puke. And I got mad. And he goes, it happens, bro. And I was like, you know what? I like you, sir.

Yeah.

So that's the story of my washing machine that I broke. I just. And I. I said, I can either try and get this fixed or I can just take a spanking, work a little extra hard this week.

Cold sweat or no, it might be later. It's going to be week 18 when we'll find out more. But then I was a little reluctant to share because she's already had four miscarriages, so we're a little nervous.

But this is a petition for prayer, I would say.

We need a specific prayer for a membrane to form.

So they're in the same house, but we need to get them in two different rooms so they'll be. So they'll be safer and biblical cord wise and safer for the mama to.

Ours were. We were very fortunate under the circumstances what you're talking about. We had exactly that. We had separate everything. Everything was separate. Which they say is the best case scenario for like so that. Because I didn't know with twins, man, how many people lose one or, you know, it just. I never had any idea because I ain't never been around it. But when they're together because things get crossed in there like you're talking about cords and everything else. So when they're in separate houses, separate room, separate everything just in one mama, it's a lot easier on the mom and a lot easier on the babies. So I appreciate the prayer you're asking for.

Well, I've been there. We're just. We're still nervous and that's why I was a little reluctant. But we needed the prayers because she's never been this far. And we're just gonna trust God, man. Trust God and celebrate today.

I'm saying they just showed up out of the blue. Somebody knocked on the door. We didn't ask for help. We didn't ask for nothing. Like somebody there's knock on the door and open the door and it's John and Paula. And Paula's like y' all sit down. And so yeah.

Yeah. She went to.

Paula might be an angel.

She went to cleaning and Galvin taught him how to be an 18 wheeler. Like Galvin was first one. Yeah, that's. They were.

One at a time. Yeah. Well, I'll say that was the deal. I don't know if I ever told this, but we were in there for one appointment and we did our deal. Come back out to the waiting room for something I don't even remember. And there was this guy and this girl walked out and my man just looked beat.

Like seen a ghost.

Yeah. Like just all the life.

Yeah.

[Willie Robertson]

And I was.

[Si Robertson]

His countenance was not right.

[Willie Robertson]

I was just looking. I was like, huh. So then they, him and his woman sat down and got to talking and I heard something and they had four.

[Jase Robertson]

Wow.

Quadruple.

[Willie Robertson]

Quadruple grief. And they had the little picture and I just leaned over to him and I said man, I just want to tell you thank you. And he said what? I said, I've never been happier to have twins in my life. Like because I mean Brittany was big pregnant at this time. Like we were, we were nearing the finish line.

[Godwin]

But if you have four, you can probably just call tlc yeah. Get your TV show and have them paid. Yeah, well, as long as you're got a little quirk about you.

[Willie Robertson]

I asked him. I just had to know, you know, it's like four, and they were like, we did. This was the first round of fertility treatments. I said, oh, Lord, it worked.

[Jase Robertson]

Well, she was. Johanna went on fertility.

[Willie Robertson]

Yeah. Neither were we. That's what. That's what's wild, man. We were not nothing. Right. Like, we just. That's what the good Lord had planned for us, man. And I. I'm thankful for them. I love them. I don't want to do it again. Not. Not the early part. I would do this stage 100 times over. Like they are. Aside from poop on a finger. It's really fun right now. Your kids are being a dad. They're.

I look at this as being divine intervention.

Yeah.

I really do. You and Paula couldn't have. So y' all adopt, you know, that's why, you know, the verse is God moves in mysterious ways.

Yeah. Pretty. Pretty crazy to the news. The news comes after a loss, too. Just like with ours. Like, my dad had just passed away.

And then, boom. Next thing we know, we're pregnant with twins. And, you know, well, he's the greatest.

At taking something bad and turning it into something beautiful.

You know, but you. You gripe sometimes to laugh about. About it, like just a poopy thing because it helps in the moment. Just, you know, you're like. Because you don't know what else to do. I ain't ever been faced with somebody with a finger covered in poop. So, I mean, I'm just like water hose. And then they break out like the. You break out like the outbreak suit, you know, like.

Because I can one up that story. Whenever Carter was drinking and he still had the hole from the G tube, and everything was just coming out.

And I had to panic because the hole had not closed. And I was like, oh, my goodness.

I was just holding aside. I was like, we got to get this boy back to the hospital. And they're like, no, that's normal. It'll heal up in a few days. I was like, I don't think this is normal.

And then you meet other people whose kids been through way more than Carter, and you're like, you know what? We're all just in a rocking boat just hoping to not capsize almost every day.

And now you got a really cool. How old is he now? 11?

Yes.

Yeah. He turned 11 in March. Is that right?

[Godwin]

He saw Ms. K. That's what I'm saying.

So Carter, we're driving from my parents house, and we're passing Stone's house, and Missy is on the golf cart with Ms. K. And Carter's like, dad, dad, it's Ms. K. I said, we're gonna say, hey. You go through all that and then you get just this delight of a kid out of it.

I had to scold them and then turn around and just go, man, life's good.

He's going to be. You're going to be a farmer, man. That's. And then their mama makes him oatmeal cream pie. Like, I mean, come on, now. Like, you don't think. These kids ain't going to be Loved like. And Paula going to keep that place spotless.

Paula gonna show up out of nowhere right when you need her the most.

Johanna moved back in with John and Paula for a hot minute while they's getting settled. I hate to tell them Paula about to move in with him. So they better make. They better make mama a room.

Because Paula, you ain't getting her away from there because I know how she is with everybody else.

We've talked to everybody else about this, but, you know, we lost Phil, and we've asked everybody kind of. That's been on since, like, what. What feel meant to them and would love to give you the floor on that to give your perspective on it, you know, because you. You have a unique one, too, with Phil being the last employee that he actually hired for Duck Commander. God was the last person that Willie did not hire that was still here and is still here. He's. He's retired from us now, but he's still very much a part of the Duck Commander family. So if you got anything you want to share, you're welcome to. He changed my heritage, I guess, and my family's heritage, which I guess he did a lot of people. But just watching him, how he treated Ms. K. Taught me a lot about how to be a husband. Even though he stern. He was stern, but honest, he was. I don't know what word you'd say he was. You know, he was just.

He was hard in one way then, but push over in another.

He was like that. But he. He taught me a lot. Taught me a lot. A great example of a man, of how to be a man, how to treat people well.

Okay. I always loved it when he asked Bill Smith one day. Bill, you know, and he was just a baby in Christ at the time, he said, hey, it's been about two years. When am I going to have to stop fighting all these demons I've got? Bill said, well, so how long did you run with them?

Crying out loud. Years. Okay. You know, you got to. This is a. This is not a sprint. This is a marathon. Okay. You got to look way down the road and, hey, take this and throw it away and then replace it with something God gave you. So. Yeah, it's a. Yeah, it's for them.

Yeah. Something similar to it but, yeah, he meant a lot. He meant a lot in his own way.

I remember this thinking this when I showed up down there first time to help on a beaver day, I looked at his potato rake and the handle, which on most of them are wood. His was square tubing. I said, this man got tired of breaking handles. Welded him a piece of. I welded. There you go.

Well, he brought it to me. So what can you do with it? And I said, oh, I fix it where they won't break.

This I'd love to have is that man, if I get my hands on that potato rake, like, I'll take that thing to eternity with me too. That thing. That's how, you know, a man fights beavers a lot. If he's got a square tube and handled potato rake to bust out beaver damage. He spent some time with that thing in his hands.

No. And you couldn't get rid of them all. The first year there, I guarantee he killed probably 1500.

1500 cotton mouth. Well, they was digging. Digging, fixing the road.

That left potholes. And every pothole had seven or eight ten cock mouse in it.
