It's similar, but no, you're on the right track. So look, I go, you know, we just got back. We went to Nashville to see Brittany's family and to. To help our friends and Wheelers out while they're doing their stuff. But I had a little downtime. So I called my buddy Fred. I said, let's go catch some crappie on Percy Priest. And he said, yeah, let's go. So I. I guess I did two things I've never done. I took an Uber to a boat ramp. I've never done that before.

[Hunter Godwin]

That's different.

[John Godwin]

Yeah. And you know what? My Uber was a Tesla. I took a Tesla fishing.

[Hunter Godwin]

Technically, that's one of them things. Drives or sale?

[John Godwin]

Well, he did have it driving himself. But also, I figured out I will never own a Tesla. Living in the south.

[Si Robertson]

Battery was battery operated.

[John Godwin]

Yeah. It was so hot in there.

[Hunter Godwin]

He didn't have the air conditioner going.

[John Godwin]

Oh, he had it full blast.

[Martin]

But it was still hot.

[John Godwin]

But it was so hot because it can't run full power because you've got a lot. You got to get to where you going, you know, like. And he's one. He had one of them. It's got the full glass roof, so you get this cool experience. I was like, bro, I feel like one of them weenies on Johnny D's hot dog rollers, man.

[Si Robertson]

Like, cooking.

[Hunter Godwin]

Yeah.

[John Godwin]

Turn the air on. And he was nice as could be, but. But anyway, so Fred gets there. I get in his truck to back the boat in the water like I always do, because that's what I do. I mean, I run around all these professional fishermen. I dump them in because it's their boat. I don't like driving their boat. Some of them make me drive their boat, but I don't, like. I'd rather drive your truck, you know, just because. But so I backed Fred in, and he gave me the go. Oh, I went. Still had a rope tied from the front of that boat to the trailer. Because his little deal, that hold.

[Hunter Godwin]

And he forgot to untie.

[John Godwin]

And he forgot to untie.

I wasn't on you.

[John Godwin]

No, but, I mean, it kind of is, because I should be looking behind me a little bit. But I've just done it so much. When somebody gives me the go, I go, yeah, I don't worry about that.

When did you stop?

[John Godwin]

About 15 foot up the ramp. Whenever I was like, what is wrong with his.

[Hunter Godwin]

What followed me for.

I didn't even look in the rearview. I was like, what is wrong with this truck? I looked to see if I went past drive, you know, put it manual, like, down to one or something. And then I looked. Something caught my eye, the side view. And it was Fred waving his hand. Fifteen foot up the boat ramp, buddy.

[Martin]

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

[John Godwin]

And we were in an aluminum boat, duck boat.

[Hunter Godwin]

I mean, he.

[John Godwin]

He hunts and fishes out of the same boat. And you think, you know, that ain't very heavy. Do you know how heavy that sucker is when it's stuck? 15 foot up a duck ramp, and you're trying to get it back to the water.

[Martin]

Yeah, it gets heavy when it's sitting on land.

[John Godwin]

Oh, buddy. It was heavy. But me and Fred and a Spanish speaking friend who was there fishing.

[Martin]

Yeah.

[John Godwin]

We got it back into the water and then we proceeded to go fishing on Percy Priest.

[Hunter Godwin]

Well, that is something, Dave. Right. I never get.

[John Godwin]

I never. Yeah.

[Si Robertson]

Wow.

I was so embarrassed. I didn't even think, take a picture.

[Hunter Godwin]

I don't want.

Like I was just like, I was so embarrassed and ashamed.

And oh yeah, we called Joe and Bear.

[John Godwin]

I don't know, we. We put in at Vivret Creek boat ramp and went straight out from it pretty much. We didn't go far.

[Martin]

That's why I always. When was fishing with Jay, he'd be. He'd walk around, walk around and check everything.

[John Godwin]

Well, I don't see on boats. I don't. If I take you fishing, I don't want you touching nothing on my boat.

[Hunter Godwin]

Right.

[John Godwin]

Because I've got a very specific order to go in the water. And the same way if, if you're taking me or if I'm going, I'm not touching your boat unless you ask me to do something. If you ask me say, hey, unhook that up front. But sure.

[Martin]

That way what happened because it gets

[John Godwin]

you out of routine.

[Martin]

Yeah. That way what happened won't happen.

[John Godwin]

But I straight did it, buddy. You want to talk about a lonely feeling?

[Si Robertson]

But you were told to go, no, I will.

[John Godwin]

I mean, but still, I should have been looking out a mirror. So, you know, I mean, I'm going to, I'm going to take 50% of the blame on this one because I should have been looking. But I'm just so used to them boys. Most people, I back ends like Goblin and they got a 250 on there. So when they say go, they got a 250 cranked and they're gone.

[Martin]

Yeah.

[John Godwin]

I don't ever even look again. Right. Like it's just go park the boat. And I should have looked.

[Si Robertson]

Was it. Was he upset?

[John Godwin]

No, he was like, no. I mean he wore. He was like. Well, he said, that's on me. He said, I just wish you to stop before you got right here.

[Si Robertson]

So it's a little bit.

[John Godwin]

And I said, that's why. Well, me too.

[Martin]

That's why most people, if you say, hey, can I help you? And I said, no, I got it.

[John Godwin]

Yeah.

[Martin]

Because they've got, they've got their routine that they do to make sure that none of that stupid stuff happens.

[John Godwin]

Oh yeah, buddy. I felt just like, you know, the size of an ant.

[Si Robertson]

You could have been on one of them videos where they're. They're all watching the people back the boats.

[John Godwin]

Oh, I was. I was a cell phone video away from ending up on qualified captains Instagram.

[Martin]

That's like people. They was backing down his ramp at his house. And the next thing you always see is a lights underwater. It went all truck, boat, truck, and all went off.

[Si Robertson]

It could have been worse, Martin.

[John Godwin]

Oh, it could have been what? We got it back in the water, which I was stunned that way. But Fred has done that before because he said, all right, first thing we're going to do is turn the boat around. So we spun the boat and put the nose back down.

[Martin]

Yeah.

[John Godwin]

So it had less metal to pull again, you know, so. And then once we got it to the slime of the boat ramp, you know, where we were all trying not to die slipping, the boat slid on in the water then. So I said, you need me to do anything else? He said, no, you've done enough.

[Hunter Godwin]

I'll get that rain up there. That rain come through up there?

[John Godwin]

A little bit of rain.

[Hunter Godwin]

Oh, it rained third?

[John Godwin]

Oh, yeah, I heard it got pretty rough here.

[Martin]

Why'd you catch any fish?

[Hunter Godwin]

Oh, yeah, we caught my windows with down in my little Tacoma.

[Martin]

Hey, how's Jacob's family?

[John Godwin]

They're doing good. They're doing. They're doing good. You know, Alicia got the diagnosis of the sarcoma in her leg, and she is. When we were there, she was finishing her second round of treatment. They changed her treatment because the first round made her so sick. So she got the second round. She got what they call what, the red devil, which is the one that starts with a age or myosin or something, I don't know.

[Hunter Godwin]

And then.

[John Godwin]

But they swapped her to another one that's like. What's the word? It's like immunotherapy. So basically it just takes the gloves off your immune system and says, go fight. Like, uses your body to try to fight it more so than drugs. And so, yeah, she. Man's weird to see. It was because I know her and I've known her for a long time and know how full of life and everything she is. And to see her down like that, it was. I mean, but she was in great spirit. She was. She's just, you know, she's sick, man. And the medicine don't help that make you feel terrible. Yeah. And so it's just. It's kind of tough to see. But I told her, I sent her a text last night. She was like, because I know how independent and Strong willed. She is. She was like the greatest patient ever. She was, she was patient with people trying to help her, even though it wasn't exactly like, you know what I mean, though? Like, I mean, that's hard. You can be a. You can be a terrible patient. Right. And she was.

[Martin]

I'm not a good one.

[John Godwin]

Yeah. And she was a great patient because she showed all of us patience and all. You know, we're trying to help, but we don't. You know, you just try to help and do the best you can, so. But yeah, man, tough. Tough to see because her kids want to be up there in her lap and you know, they just can't be because the deals in her leg. And so it's.

[Martin]

That's the worst part.

[John Godwin]

It hurts the whole time. And so, you know, we were trying to keep between my kids and their kids, we were just trying to keep kids distracted and you know, let her have a little peace and yeah, I would say quiet, but there's four kids under the age of not going to be quiet. It's not quiet, but to keep, you know, just to have some peace and stuff. And. And she did her fireworks show, which she loves doing. So we did a big fireworks show on, on the lake. And you know, they're doing good. They're just figuring it out, figuring it out as they go. So hopefully two more rounds of treatment and then be done with that and then do the next deal radiation and then hopefully surgery by October to get it out of there. Hopefully everything works as it should and get it out of there and get her on the full blown, men, you know, so. But yeah, man, it sucks. Cancer sucks. There's no doubt about it. And since that deal, there's been so many people reach out via duck call room and Instagram and all that and offering prayers and support and I know they appreciate it. We appreciate. Then there's a bunch of people battling it themselves.

I mean, it just, it. Cancer sucks, man.

It's a toughie.

Yeah.

[John Godwin]

You know, but they're meeting it head on and I'm proud of them. Yeah. Because even Jacob, you know, he's. He's special. I love that boy. But you know, he's all the time just fish, fish, fish, fish, fish, fish. I mean, that's what he does for a living. And I mean, I saw him make about 10 cast while I was there because he was helping take care of her. So, you know, like really, really going into a servant role, which is really cool, man.

[Si Robertson]

Yeah, it is.

Hey, when we went to England, it was 20 degrees hotter the week that we were there. 20 degrees hotter than normal, I'm telling you. I mean, it was summertime and London.

Oh, yeah. I loved it. I was fine. I mean, I'm used to the heat plus humidity. Yeah, we change shirts three or four times. I've only changed once today because of coffee.

Yeah, yeah, it's dry. They don't even have air conditioning, you know, you just open up the window if you get hot.

Yeah, me and Goblin, though.

Yeah, and I did. Tell me I wanted. I did have Some fans. But I opened up all the windows as much as they would open.

You know, for those that don't know. Me and Galvin got to Scotland before everybody else. For all the Robertsons. When we did that Duck Dynasty when we were on the earlier flight and we got there and they were delayed and whatever. And we got to the hotel and there was no air conditioning. So me and Galvin were like, huh. So we said. We sent a friendly text out, hey, heads up, this place ain't got no ac. Which then led to another text about two hours later and said, your reservations been moved.

Yeah.

Down to the American Hotel that's got air conditioning. So we went from windows open to air conditioning.

[Si Robertson]

Oh, yeah.

Before they ever got bigger room.

Yeah. We were in a little tiny thing up there.

He said, yep. He said, right up the creek, you catch all you want. I said, well, I'm going to go catch 100 bluegill and I'm gonna put water in the middle of the boat where you hunked up all the fish. And then me and Jason gonna go out there and set the trot line across the river. He said, okay. So I did it, went up there, I caught 100, filled it up, put it in there, come back, me and Jace went out there and, you know, and Phil was all worried, you know. He said, hey, you gotta put weights on them every once in a while where the barges won't you get in the trot line. I said, hey, I got this. I. This ain't my first time I ever put a darn drop line out, dummy. Well, look, all the way across river, 300 yards, 300 hooks. Why I had a bunch of. I don't know, I paid all I had all across river. So, yeah, we got a man Jack got over daylight, you know, Phil was up drinking coffee and y' all said, well, we're going to run the trot line. Well, we got out as soon as we went. Pulled up to where the thing was tied, you know, here comes Phil in another boat. He said, get out of the way. He said, I gotta run them. I said, hey, your shoulder. You don't need to do this. He said, he said, hey, look, I got a house note coming. He said, you should have probably caught Some pretty good fish. Hey, soon, you know, I'm looking where I tied it on a tree that it fell in. And the limb was. I said, oh, wow. Yeah. I said, they own it. So when he first got out there, look, he started raising it up. It was about 10 in a row. Okay, 15 to 25 pound blues come up with it. He said, you got to come help me, you know. He said, jase, you grab part right there. I'll grab it back here. Sigh. You grab it up at the front, he said, because we're gonna lift all them in at one time.

So, hey, we did. We threw them all in a boat, unhooked them, put him in there, and hey, hey, 800 pounds worth. I put it on their butt, boys.
