I mean, I mean really, that know half their name.

Oh, so we have like a cook porch. It's got like a fireplace and all that. You know where the pizza oven is? They're all up in there. So we have those old beams and they have. They're the old beams that have like, you know, holes where like old timey. Yeah, yeah, like wood.

Big, big things. Held them together back in the day.

Yeah, big thing. So anyway, there's these big chunks out of them. And so they made them their home. And it is crazy. Now on the plus side, we don't have any mosquitoes, which is a huge plus for Louisiana. They are eating the mosquitoes.

Do you have any guano?

But what that's the problem, that's the negative is the porch is covered in bat poop all the time. We're constantly cleaning it. So we've been on a mission. But no, here's the worst part.

[Martin]

Nothing's been good so far. You tried to sell me on. The mosquitoes are gone.

[Willie]

There's a chance somebody like, you know, John shepherd could end up being the Cape crusader man.

[Jase]

Like.

[Martin]

Well, well, well, we tried to do that with John Luke.

So he didn't.

Now we get a second generation.

Somehow they're getting inside of our house.

We have gotten. I found. We. Ella and I just walked big holes in that. In that house on the floor, just alive. You hear it like Chirping. Just laying on the floor.

Once you get to a certain amount of square feet, the animals just feel like they're still outside and just walk right in.

No, I think it's because it used to be full of people all the time. So you don't want to come there. Right. Well, now Will and Cory are.

They're almost empty nesters, but they all live in their yard, so I mean,

Oh, remember under Phil and Kay's gun cabinet? What was it? Remember those squirrels that were living under their cabinet?

Reason they found out about it is because there was always nuts on the floor holes. And Kay was saying, where is all this coming from?

Oh, she'd clean it up and then the next thing I know, you know, there'd be a half of pecan laying there and she'd say, you know, then they feel. Finally got to look at. He pulled it back and. Good grief.

Makes that spider in your house the other day feel pretty pedestrian.

[Jase]

That spider was the size of a squirrel. Thank you.

Nah. I mean, they probably it was like, spider probably got. You probably don't want to get bit.

Here's a little known fact about me. I'm not scared of spiders. But I am terrified of spider bites. Does that. Does that make sense? Okay, here, let me explain. Here's the thing. If I see a spider, I'm fine. Like, I'm not. That's fine.

You're bigger than it.

[Cory]

I'm bigger than I can step on it. And, Carter, if I see a random bite on me that I don't know where it's from, I'm concerned that it's a spider bite.

Yeah. I'm always like, you think that looks like a spider bite? Because. Because I had an aunt that got bit by a brown recluse and she had cut like a chunk of her flesh out. Yes. And so every bite that's on the kids or on me. I'm like asking Willie, like, you think that looks like a spider bite?

Recluse is the one. If he bites you, you gotta. Yeah. You gotta do the same thing exactly. Or you'll turn into gang ring and everything, you know, it's bad.

spider that was in my house would have bit us. You would have known because we would have been missing a large portion of our arm.

This really happened. And she handled it way better than I would expect. It. It was. She was actually pretty calm about it, which was shocking. Okay. We were in Uganda for a mission trip.

floating, did this floating trip down the Nile river, which was amazing. It was like. And she was terrified of it because it was.

Floating down the Nile, floating down the Nile, full of crocodiles.

[Cory]

Okay. This really happened. We get on this like whitewater rafting and they start explaining to us. And like it was intense. This was not like, you know, America has safety rules about whitewater rafting. No, this was some intense white water rafting. Like John Luke fell out, like someone had to rescue him. We all flipped, the boat flipped, everyone was in the water. And Missy was not sure about this trip at all. You could tell. She was just like, I cannot believe y' all got me into this. And what are we doing anyway? So we're fighting. We're coming up to where this little island that we're going to have lunch on. And as we're pulling up to it, I mean it is swarming with bats. And they say that's where we're having lunch. And we like, hahaha, that's funny. Like, no, that really was. We were having lunch. The leaves on the trees were not leaves. They were bats hanging off the trees everywhere. So we're pulling up, this is for real. We're pulling up to this island and we're looking up at the bats, which, you know, don't look up when you see bats. We're looking at the bat and a bat pooped right in Missy's eye. Literally, it just dropped right in her eye.

I'm out.

She. I know.

You know how quick I'd have been in a Nile River.

[Cory]

Exactly.

We start splashing water in her eye

and you get eaten.

Yes. We start splashing water in her eye. It was crazy. She was so calm. I would have that. Like, I didn't mind getting flipped out of the boat, but a bat pooping in my eye, I don't think I would have handled that. I was impressed.

You know, health wise, they're bad to be around.

Exactly. She could have gotten the antivirus.

Yeah, because when people go in and we've got people that, you know, check on me and all this other stuff, they were. The Hazmat suit.

Well, what they told us were these were like fruit bats. So they weren't the bad kind, so it was fine.

They were hanging. Hanging down, literally. The trees.

And we got out. We ate lunch there. It was great. It was really interesting and cool.

I watched too many. I've watched too many outdoor movies about crocodile. And then Al went to somewhere in Africa, and they walked by a little pool in the middle of a town, and that pool is full of giant crocodiles. I mean, 23 foot long.

When I, when I was like the two months going into it, I was just doing this incessantly, right? And so British accent. So I was, when I was learning this, I was just like doing this incessantly all the time. So my mates and I would go out for like dinner, a couple brews or something and the waitress would always hit on me because I had a cool accent. You know, it's always wow, you're so lyrical with your voice. I'm like, thank you.

I love her life. It was a month. I think it was a month, roughly. That's still fast.

Yeah. Her mom's the one that keeps me on schedule with everything. She always. She's just texting me, are you at the airport yet? Do you have your hotel reservation? I'm like, I don't have anything. Yeah, so she's just taking care of both of us now, and she.

And she has to wake him up when, like, it's his nap time. One time, I was, like, standing in front of the elevator because my mom was like, he's probably sleeping in. And I was like, where were you?

Yeah, and I can sleep wake him up.

And today my mom. And today my mom was like. Well, he was actually like, if I'm not awake by my nap, is if my map. I'm trying to think what you said.

[Evelyn]

So on Duck Dynasty, how much of it is you guys just riffing?

Here's the thing. If they wrote anything down, I had a lady, and all she had to do was. I used to have a Tupperware cup. Well, the light smells real quick in it.

So her one job was keep me in ice and tea. They would hand her something written. I'd look at it. Crumble it up the trash can.

[Willie]

You know, the incredible thing about psy doing that is they would have like scenarios written out for us, not lines, because we're funnier than they were.

[Jase]

Yeah.

[Willie]

And words of Phil, I can't say that anymore. Dare got a hold of a bad batch.

[Ad]

[Willie]

That's neither here nor there are. But I would look at that that quickly and remember everything everybody was supposed to do. Like, not just what side was supposed to do. He would. He would know what everybody supposed to do. And if you weren't doing it in a timely fashion, he'd do it for you.

[Jase]

I'd help you out. Yeah.

[Malcolm]

He'd be like, I. I'll take this my line now.

[Willie]

Yeah, yeah. He's like, hey, we got to get to where I'm going here. So, yeah, the. The knack that he had for a piece of paper that said start here in here. It was incredible. Like, it was. It was wild. But yeah, I'd say 92% of it was off the cuff. Based off a loose idea there. Of course. Most of it. Like, we tell a lot of people. We used to have the old duck call room down at Phil and K's, and in there we had. The insulation was exposed. So, you know, the back of insulation is like cardboard. Like, so we would just write funny stuff that happened on that. Like when they weren't here, we would write down like this. This happened that way we wouldn't forget it. And then. So that was a lot of the times the idea board was.

[Malcolm]

Oh, that's great.

[Willie]

[Jase]

Hey, look, 90% of the stuff that we did, either Willie or Jace or Phil came up with it because it

had happened to us to some level. So it was all based.

[Jase]

It was all based on something that happened to the family.

The best part was, is, is when we started we had one director, he had some family issues at home so he had to leave and we got a new one. You know this one director that we started out with, if he had to schedule for eight hours, you're going to film all eight hours.

So hey, the new director comes on board and we have a big meeting and while he's doing his thing about, for about an hour and a half, he's telling us what we're going to be doing all that. Well, I'm over there just doing whatever I normally done. Wasn't even paying no attention to him. Just so we start walking out to go film and Ethan's Talking to Jim, the head cameraman, he said, we in, we in for. We in for a rough day there ain't with Jim. And Jim said, what are you talking about? And I'm behind him now, listening to all that. So he says, because the whole time I was talking, Uncle Sal was doing whatever he wanted to do. You know, I tapped the guy on the back, on the shoulder and I said, ethan, I said, hey, you. Hey. Look. I said, when we start filming, I said, I'm listening for three things speeding down. Action. I said, when them three words hit the airways, you'll see a different person.

[Willie]

I'll show up.

[Jase]

So, yeah, so we get out, you know, we film for an hour and a half yelling. Ethan looks at Jim and says, well, what do you think? And Jim said, you're not going to be just what you filmed. It's perfect.

[Malcolm]

One take, that's all you need.

[Willie]

No, no. So. So if it been the other director, okay, we would have filmed it for another seven hours.

[Malcolm]

Well, Ethan said, well, I'll see you in the morning at 8 o'. Clock.

[Malcolm]

All. And I said, he good news. Worried about having trouble with me. I said, some men you are going to get along good.

[Willie]

No, the good news is everybody here is protected because I ain't called him by the right name yet.

[Martin]

I was like, I don't remember a single Ethan in

[Willie]

now, GM did exist. Jim was director of photography.

[Jase]

Jim, he was a head camera. Yeah, our good friend, best one was, he was talking to Phil one day, you know, and Phil was saying, jim, I got a question. He said, what do you think about a man that will come up to the line of sanity? He comes up to it and he stepped across it. He said, what would you call that, yo? And I, they always getting on me because I'm always causing problems. Yeah, yo. Jim says, we call it talent. And I look at Phil and I said, had him. Gotcha.

[Malcolm]

Oh, man, that's the same right here.

[Jase]

No, no, I. I can see that. You know, she don't really get good till they say, roll action.

[Willie]

Yeah, that girl, she's. She is full of queen.

[Jase]

Then the queen goes into who she is. Completely. Completely. The young lady disappears in a symbol. Person that nobody knows shows up thousand percent.

[Evelyn]

Maybe a duck, maybe not a person. Doesn't have to be a person.

[Malcolm]

Let me put. Then the entity shows up and takes over the stage.

[Evelyn]

This is going to be for both of you, but we'll start with Evelyn because she loves to talk, and I can appreciate that. What was your favorite scene of the movie? Did you have one that, like, sticks out above the rest? Was there one that you were like, man, that was a lot of fun. Or that was really cool. Or. Or anything?

[Evelyn]

There was this scene, like, it's not like, once. It's like, these scenes that are stuck together or whatever. And it had this big guy. Oh, I mean. I mean, this big guy.

[Willie]

[Evelyn]

He taught me how to do ukulele.

[Willie]

[Evelyn]

Taught me. He didn't teach me right. And I tried. And he brought me pizza.

[Willie]

Emotional. And she's just playing full of energy. And then we jump into the scene, she's ready to go, we're finished with it. And I'm like, I feel really good. She goes, you missed a line. I can already preparing for hours you've been doing.

I can already see. They will play this in hospital. Hospitals.

[Malcolm]

Yeah. Yeah, but we had.

[Jase]

No, no, I'm serious. They will play this in hospitals to help people that are.

Are ill. Oh, yeah. To watch the recovery story of it all.

So what about you, Malcolm? Is there a scene that sticks out in your mind?

[Malcolm]

I mean, that were so fun.

[Willie]

The pizza one would be fun because we.

[Malcolm]

Knowing that there wasn't any sound, I just got to. I was basically like, how do I make her just.

[Evelyn]

He pretended to be a.

[Malcolm]

My goal was make her break character every time.

[Evelyn]

He was tickling me for hours. And he dressed up as a mummy and came in. And then I just. I discovered he wasn't really a mummy. That was.

[Willie]

Surprise, surprise. He's not really a mommy.

[Evelyn]

I was really mad because I was about to prove my mom that I can fight down a mummy. You mean.

[Willie]

You mean your mom?

[Malcolm]

Yeah. Mum or mummy?

[Evelyn]

My. My mom. My mom. My mommy. And there was a wheelchair race.

[Malcolm]

Oh, that was fun.

[Evelyn]

And I didn't win. And just because he had skill, but I was pushed, so I don't know how I didn't win.

[Willie]

Oh, man.

[Jase]

Oh, you're playing a young lady that's terminally ill. Yep.

[Malcolm]

And I'm the rock star that crashes into the hospital. And she's a fan of Elijah Peel. So she's just, I mean, incessant troublemaker. So she wanders on into my room and I can't get rid of her because I'm bedridden. So she just keeps showing up.

[Evelyn]

That's what I do. I act old and wise.

[Jase]

She's not gonna let you get rid of her? No.

[Malcolm]

No, she doesn't.

[Jase]

Yeah.

[Malcolm]

And you know, she just like the voice of reason and faith that Elijah Peel needs right then and there.

[Evelyn]

So with a little bit of. Which with a little bit of sass.

[Willie]

So doing the movie, I mean, a faith. A faith based movie with a full redemption story. Did that, being the characters have any impact on your life? Like, you know, I mean, redemption is real, right? Like, redemption is the thing that we all look for. I mean, it's rooting for the underdog, all that kind of stuff. So playing that has to be powerful in your life, I would think like, you know, one of them kind of deals.

[Malcolm]

I think for me, playing it was, I mean, it's such a fun character to play. It's so dynamic, and it kind of feels like a master class, getting the opportunity, opportunity to do it. But I think the biggest part has been, like, going to the film festivals with it and the showings and having people come up afterwards and be like, oh, my child is going through this. I have a niece or nephew that's going through something similar. And I don't think I was ready for that to come out of the showings and have it actually touch people's lives, where they're at. And then coming up to me to just be like, thank you for doing this. I, I mean, I'm kind of, I'm pretty unserious in general because that was a very kind of grounding moment immediately

[Jase]

when people are in that, in that moment. Okay. Regardless of what they fight.

[Malcolm]

Yeah.

[Jase]

Okay. They feel all alone. Okay. And then for somebody that do something on the screen and it brings a little happiness and smiles to their face, that means a lot. Yeah. I've had people come to tell me that when I was going through chemotherapy or cancer that I made them get through it because when they needed a life or to smile.

[Willie]

Yeah.

[Jase]

They looked at this idiot doing something stupid.

[Malcolm]

I've been there watching you guys.

[Jase]

To me, you know, that made it all worth it.

[Malcolm]

I, I, I wasn't ready for the kind of reality check of that.

[Jase]

Well, no, no, because see, the first time a kid from Make a Wish foundation showed up to us, we, we didn't know what to do. Yeah.

[Malcolm]

You're like, I don't know.

[Jase]

Yeah. You know, and the last thing they wanted to do was spend some time with this crazy Krasko, you know, So I went to my knees and told almighty, hey, make me funny. Make me something that will help this kid get through this crap.

[Jase]

That's the way I see her.

[Malcolm]

I tried my best to make him one of the best Christians.
