[Ryan Reynolds]

There's no way we breached that base. There's too many of them.

[Ty]

I can't believe there's more than this. I motioned to the large crowd around us.

[Ryan Reynolds]

These people aren't fighters, God damn it.

[Ty]

Well, what are we supposed to do? We can't go back. We can't give in. You said they just opened fire on you. That means they want to fight.

[Ryan Reynolds]

It wasn't a fight. It was a massacre. I got off three shots before the bullets rained down. They didn't give a shit. We should have went up there when they were first asking for help.

[Ty]

Are we so sure they're not in on it?

[Ryan Reynolds]

What?

[Ty]

Grant and company could be helping them.

[Ryan Reynolds]

You believe that? They're rangers.

[Ty]

How well do we know them?

[Ryan Reynolds]

This is all speculation. It doesn't help us right now. We can't wait here much longer.

[Ty]

You're right. We're reorganizing, and then we're. We're figuring out what we need to do. I walked back over to Terrell. He was inspecting his bandages. I kneeled in front of him. You don't think if we attacked with every one of our guards, we can win?

[Ryan Reynolds]

It's not that. We may be able to, but plan to lose half our people? Unless you have a trick up your sleeve.

[Ty]

I walked back over to Dana. I hesitated a moment. I don't know what to do.

[Ryan Reynolds]

You wanted to be in charge, Travis. You better think of something.

[Kylie]

I'm sorry. I know it's dumb.

[Chris]

It's not dumb. But I'm not sure I'm ready for something like that. It's all a little soon.

[Kylie]

I know.

[Ava]

I thought he would let it go.

[Kylie]

After a while, but apparently they're third.

[Chris]

On the rental list. What does that mean?

[Ryan Reynolds]

It means they'll be stuck with two.

[Kylie]

Others if we don't go.

[Chris]

Great. That's why we're in a time crunch.

[Ryan Reynolds]

Yeah.

[Kylie]

I had a hard time sleeping. Jay and Kylie were still up. They'd been talking all night. I didn't want to disrupt them either. I know they were having a hard time with this, but it was now three in the morning, and what happens if we.

[Chris]

You know what, Jay? We have to think about this realistically.

[Rita]

Why?

[Chris]

Why?

[Ryan Reynolds]

Yeah, why?

[Chris]

Because what happens to me if we don't work out? It just seems like this is moving too fast.

[Kylie]

But you said things between us were moving too slow.

[Chris]

Yes, some things are. But moving in with your family is not one of them.

[Ryan Reynolds]

I know, but what am I supposed to do?

[Kylie]

I understood both of their points, but there was no way in hell I would interject right now. This was their problem to solve. I just wish my bed wasn't so Close to the back bedroom. I leaned over to see Ava stirring too. She was awake and sitting up. She looked over and smiled a half smile. I returned it with a head nod. Just then she started putting on her shoes.

[Chris]

Oh, sorry guys.

[Kylie]

I sat up to see Kylie entering the kitchen. My bed was the dining table folded down. But it was my fault for offering Ava the fold out couch and Jay and Kylie the bedroom.

[Chris]

I hope we're not being too loud.

[Ava]

No, no. I can't sleep.

[Chris]

Oh.

[Kylie]

Ever since Ava moved in, she'd had trouble sleeping. You guys okay? Kylie?

[Chris]

Yeah.

[Kylie]

She turned around towards the room, knowing Jay could hear our every word. She grabbed a vitamin water, but before drinking, she looked to Ava, then me.

[Chris]

We can take it outside. Really?

[Ava]

No, don't worry about it. I'm gonna go for a walk.

[Chris]

Oh, okay.

[Kylie]

Kylie turned to me as if expecting my answer. Oh, no. Yeah, you guys are fine. I'm having trouble sleeping myself and not because of you guys.

[Ava]

Maybe it's contagious.

[Kylie]

Could be. Ava made her way to the door. Hey you. You want some company? I could see Kylie out of the corner of my eye. She snickered and turned away.

[Ava]

Oh, sure. That'd be nice. Okay, I'll wait for you outside.

[Kylie]

I hurriedly put my shoes on as she walked out.

[Chris]

Seriously? Nothing there?

[Kylie]

Nothing.

[Chris]

Okay.

[Kylie]

Okay. Ready? And the nightmares keep coming.

[Ava]

Yeah. It's frustrating because before Scott it was Mark, but before Mark it was Scott. I know you said it doesn't help to dwell on it, but it's hard to turn off my mind. Especially at night.

[Kylie]

Totally understandable.

[Ava]

And it feels like there's this tug of war game going on in my head. Go south, Go north. Go south. Go north.

[Kylie]

Wait, there's no option that has you staying here?

[Ava]

Well, when I think rationally about it, of course staying here is the best option. But at night, staring up at our crack seat ceiling, I can't help but to think irrationally.

[Kylie]

Do the walks help? This wasn't the first night Ava had gone for a walk. But it was the first time that I'd asked to join. Maybe it had to do with what Kylie said earlier.

[Ava]

They do. Although it's a little chilly tonight.

[Kylie]

Yeah, it is. I was wearing shorts and a tee. We were walking along Bay Flat Road once past the RV park. It was gorgeous. Good view of the bay. Especially with the moonlight tonight. So you mentioned north and south. South of San Diego.

[Ava]

But north is nothing. Absolutely nothing.

[Kylie]

Then why?

[Ava]

I don't know. I like it here. I mean, it's fine, but sometimes it feels like an illusion.

[Kylie]

An illusion?

[Ava]

A make believe life. I mean, I work in a diner. I serve food and wash dishes. I haven't worked in a restaurant business since I was 19. But that's not even the weird part. Alien creatures are still out there. The plants and everything. I walked through it. And people, sick people. I. I killed a man. Ambridge. I shot him. I had to do it, but I. The point is, all of that stuff hasn't all of a sudden gone away. But here we pretend it has.

[Kylie]

Maybe that's more of a viewpoint of the inside.

[Ava]

What do you mean?

[Kylie]

Kylie and I have guard duty. I get where you're coming from, but the threat is very much real. Even here.

[Ava]

No, I know that.

[Kylie]

It's funny you mentioned north, though.

[Ava]

Why?

[Kylie]

I know we've mentioned Mia before, but that was her goal. To just head north and live with her wife in some cabin away from it all, actually. Away?

[Ava]

You think it's ridiculous? Unattainable.

[Kylie]

No, I think it's possible. And I think if that's something you want, then by all means.

[Ava]

Grass is greener.

[Kylie]

Possibly. There's no telling how bad Montana or Idaho or Washington or hell, even Canada was hit, so I'm holding judgment.

[Ava]

But you think what we have here is good?

[Kylie]

I think it's, as you put it, fine.

[Ava]

Right.

[Kylie]

We walked a good 20 minutes in silence. I wasn't sure if I should say anything, but I felt compelled to. So did anything I say help?

[Ava]

When? Now or when I first arrived?

[Kylie]

Anytime.

[Ava]

It has. And I know I can get past a lot of my feelings. I just need more time.

[Kylie]

Time helps. As we came around the bend, we noticed two buses blocking the road.

[Ava]

Is that some kind of checkpoint?

[Kylie]

I don't know. You ever come this way at night?

[Ava]

First time? Usually I go down East Shore.

[Kylie]

Well, let's find out.

[Ryan Reynolds]

Hey, where we heading?

[Kylie]

A man dressed like a lumberjack and holding an M4 carbine approached us. We're just out for a walk.

[Ty]

Sorry, but you can't come this way.

[Kylie]

How come? The road's blocked.

[Ryan Reynolds]

New rules now.

[Ty]

Just turn around.

[Kylie]

Relax. I'm a guard over by Shoreline Highway. We're just out walking.

[Ryan Reynolds]

Then you should know they seal off the highway down there too.

[Kylie]

No, I wasn't aware. I know they're planning an expansion, but south of the lodge is all new territory. This road leads to the other side of the bay?

[Ava]

Yeah. Why would they cut it off?

[Ryan Reynolds]

The campground is being used for an entry point for imports.

[Ava]

So they need to cut off the entire road?

[Ryan Reynolds]

I just do as they tell me. Now, please, just head back. They'll reopen in the morning.

[Ava]

What if we lived over on that side?

[Ryan Reynolds]

Residences aren't open on the other side of the bay. At least not yet. Now, please.

[Kylie]

Fine. We're going. Turned around, crossed the road and headed back the way we came.

[Ava]

That's weird, right?

[Kylie]

Maybe they're worried about people stealing things.

[Ava]

But Jay helps with unloading on the docks. They don't seal off the docks at night.

[Kylie]

I don't know.

[Ava]

Do you know anything about the people that run this area?

[Kylie]

I've heard two names. Cohen with a K. And shoot, I can't remember the other name. A woman, I think.

[Ava]

Oh. Because I haven't heard much. Except Rita says most people don't even ask about it.

[Kylie]

I guess as long as things run smoothly, there's no need to, right?

[Chris]

Yeah.

[Kylie]

That is one thing you have to like about Bodega Bay. Everything seems to run smoothly. You may have a boring job, but at least we have food, water and a roof over our heads.

[Ava]

But that's the illusion of normality.

[Kylie]

I'll still take that over everything else right now.

[Ava]

Yeah, I guess you're right.

[Ryan Reynolds]

Sa.

[Rita]

Hey. You're going out now? It's 4:00 in the morning.

[Ryan Reynolds]

I have to.

[Rita]

Why?

[Ryan Reynolds]

I motioned towards the window. The window that was open, displaying the scene across the bay. Bright light and movement over by the campground.

[Rita]

New suppliers?

[Ryan Reynolds]

Yeah, and there's a chance for more. We lost two people tonight.

[Rita]

Let me guess. Incompetence?

[Ryan Reynolds]

No, not this time. I. I don't think.

[Rita]

What makes you say that?

[Ryan Reynolds]

I held up my radio because Troy was with them this time.

[Rita]

That doesn't mean anything.

[Ryan Reynolds]

Sure it does, Grace.

[Rita]

Well, okay. So why do you have to go out there then? Can't Troy take care of it?

[Ryan Reynolds]

I need to show face. You're the one who told me it's all about morale.

[Rita]

Morale can wait till the morning.

[Ryan Reynolds]

No, not this time.

[Rita]

Fine. But I'm going back to bed.

[Ryan Reynolds]

Okay. I don't know why she was upset. This was her idea. Troy said it would be smart for me to show face. And Grace said morale was the most important thing here. So here I was, making an effort. I was exhausted. But sleep could wait.

[Rita]

Oh, and Cohen, don't wake me up when you come back, please.

[Ryan Reynolds]

And with a sharp swish of her hair and gown, she walked back upstairs. She didn't see me roll my eyes, which was good. I grabbed my gun and keys and went outside. It was a cool night. I wasn't looking forward to this, but I had to do It. I decided to take the jeep tonight. I wanted to be intimidating. And that's something the turquoise Mini Cooper wouldn't suppose.

[Rita]

Okay, tell me one more time, Tyrell, and really think. Was she dead?

[Ryan Reynolds]

I'm sorry, Chris. She was hit. She fell. That's all I saw.

[Rita]

But you.

[Ava]

But you think.

[Ryan Reynolds]

I think she's dead. Yes.

[Ty]

Me and Dana stood to the side as Chris paced.

[Ava]

No.

[Ty]

No.

[Ava]

I don't believe it. We have to send more people up to find out.

[Ty]

We can't do that.

[Chris]

Why?

[Ty]

Because Terrell says they were all shot? You think we should send more people into that? We have to look at all of our options.

[Ava]

There are no other options. I won't accept what he says until.

[Rita]

I see her body.

[Ty]

Chris.

[Rita]

You sent her up there.

[Ryan Reynolds]

Chris, we understand what you're going through and we understand the situation. That's why we're trying to figure things out. We're short on options and shorter on time.

[Kylie]

You got that right. We can't stay here much longer.

[Ty]

I know that, Hudson.

[Rita]

You need to make a decision.

[Ryan Reynolds]

But if you don't head up there, I will.

[Ty]

And you'll be killed.

[Ryan Reynolds]

There's a lot of them. We could possibly take them. But we need everyone. And we need one hell of a plan.

[Kylie]

Travis. We need to worry about the vehicles too if we lose.

[Ty]

Then what do you suggest? Diverting off the road. It's all forest now. Splitting our party to deal with the thrashers and bandits simultaneously. We can't spread ourselves too thin. Taking everyone here and rushing the base. 90% of these people can't fight and we don't have enough weapons even if they could. Suddenly Dana grabbed my shoulder and pulled me back.

[Ryan Reynolds]

I. I actually have an idea.

[Ty]

What? Dana. He took a step forward into the group. The group that consisted of all the second in commands. The people that were once under Mia, Gale, Annie and Harlow.

[Ryan Reynolds]

Why would we do the fighting? We have a whole herd of Thrashers behind us. Maybe we can lead them to the base, divert the convoy and let them follow a few of us up. Then let the bandits and the thrashers duke it out.

[Kylie]

And we just wait?

[Ryan Reynolds]

Yeah, wait it out and deal with the leftovers.

[Kylie]

You think that'll work?

[Ryan Reynolds]

I think it's our best option.

[Ty]

It could mean the base getting destroyed.

[Kylie]

And we'd need to divert people asap.

[Ava]

And what if Mia or anyone else.

[Rita]

Is actually still alive?

[Ryan Reynolds]
