Foreign. Welcome to the Epic Success Podcast. I AM your host, Dr. Shannon Ervin. On the Epic Success podcast, we unpack the neuroscience of success and really help you become a hardwired CEO and also hardwire your business to scale. All right, this is what we're doing here on the Epic Success Podcast. So glad you're here.
B
God didn't just give us spiritual instructions. He gave us a brain manual. Your struggle isn't a faith issue. It's a wiring issue.
A
It's actually God wired it in a way that it can be done in 67 days or less. 90% of our decisions, our actions, and our results will be automatic. You're 67 days away from a freedom that you were always called to, but the enemy found a way to just have you one degree off. We are daughters of the most high, by God.
B
Ladies, have you ever wondered why some women seem to step into their calling effortlessly while others, equally faithful, equally called, feel like they're fighting an invisible battle in their own minds? Today we have Dr. Shannon Irving. She's going to reveal something that changed everything for me. When you truly understand how your brain actually works, obedience becomes easier, clarity becomes clear, and breakthrough becomes inevitable. Today, I am so excited to introduce to you Dr. Shannon, Shannon Irving. Dr. Shannon, welcome to the Call with Michelle.
A
What an honor to be in this room and speaking to your audience.
C
They're.
A
They have an amazing leader in you, Natasha, and so what a blessing.
B
Yes, it is such an honor even for me to have you here in this space. I have admired so much of your work for the past, I think, maybe like, four years. We met in a Mastermind, and it's just been really beautiful watching how the Lord has been using you to really help women just like myself and our. Our audience really get free in their hearts and their minds. So before we get started into our conversation, I want our audience to truly get an understanding of who you are and what your story is. What I love about your journey and your testimony is that it's so relatable specifically to our audience and even me personally. So Dr. Shannon has a PhD in neuropsychology, but what I love the most about her story is that she didn't start in academia. She started as an entrepreneur who was successful. Successful, but completely felt burnt out. She was working 16 to 17 hours per day, making great money, but she felt trapped and torn between her business and her family. Now, does any of this sound familiar? One day, she had a breakdown moment. Literally crying on her bed, feeling like she had nothing else to give but instead of giving up, she realized something profound. She wasn't trapped by her circumstances. She was trapped by her thinking. That revelation led her to earn her PhD and discover how God designed our brains to actually work with his plans, not against them. She's now helped thousands of entrepreneurs rewire their thinking using what she calls biblical neuroscience. And here's what I love about Dr. Shannon. She discovered when you understand how God truly designed your brain, you can partner with him more effectively. And she wants us all to know today that we are not broken. We just need the manual. Today, she's going to show us exactly how to do it. Before we dive in, let's invite the Holy Spirit to open up our minds, to truly understand how beautifully God designed us to work. So, Holy Spirit, we invite you into today's conversation. May you be in the midst of the words that we speak. May you remind us of the hope that we have in Jesus and the help that we have in you. In Jesus name, amen. So, Dr. Shannon, here's what I want our listeners to really understand as we have today's conversation. What if everything that we've been taught about renewing our mind actually has a lot to do with neuroscience? And you've discovered personally that when God says for us to truly renew our mind, there's actual brain science behind that.
A
Yeah.
B
Would you mind kind of sharing on that?
A
Oh, I would love to, because this is what changed everything for me, you know, growing up being a believer. We're in the word. We hear it all the time. Right. Renew your mind. Think on what is pure, true, and lovely. Don't be anxious. And then we're, like, feeling guilty because we're feeling anxious and we're not thinking the best thoughts. And as you mentioned in the beginning, you know, the big moment for me came when I found out I was pregnant.
C
Wow.
A
And I remember I was running a charity. I was running a business. I was getting my value from my do. As Joyce Meyer says, my who and my do were a little bit mixed up. And I sat on the bed in the best moment of my life.
C
Yeah.
A
Staring at that stick that said I was pregnant. But I had a vision for what I wanted to be as a mom. And I thought to myself, how am I going to do all this and be a mom, too? Like, how can I show up in that way?
B
It's a real moment.
A
Yeah. And I'm like, something's got to give. I got to give something up. And I really felt like the Lord said to me, what if it's an and like, okay, Lord, I'll be open for that. And as I was being a mom and starting to raise kids, I came up against the wall of limiting beliefs. See, the enemy does nothing new under the sun. Since the beginning of time, he questions, did God really say? And he sows lies. And he knows that if there's an anointing or a calling on some woman's life, and I'm speaking specifically to women today, that the best, easiest way is for just one little lie to eat away at the calling, the anointing, and the influence and impact we're supposed to have in the world. And that started happening to me where the business was doing fine, but I couldn't get it past a certain point. And I just tried to do it on how we're raised, like effort and hustle and earning. And I did what every normal entrepreneur. This is not normal for non entrepreneurs. I get it. But for entrepreneurs, like we get it, when we hit a point, we need help. And so I got a mentor, convinced my husband to let us use a lot of our savings for that. It was the biggest investment I'd ever made. And what I found out was every strategy, every tactic, every process, everything in the business I was doing, it was literally a mirror. But what I found out was the difference was how she thought.
C
Wow.
A
Now she was a believer. She had three children. She put her kids first, God first, family second, loved kids were first, was always there. She had two eight figure businesses. I figured she's got some magic thing, some magician. So I wanted to know, right? So I found out she thought differently about worth enoughness, capacity, how God believed about her, and just freedom of walking in the anointing instead of second guessing. Her thoughts were different than mine. And that began this crazy obsession for me into why does my brain work differently? I believe that was a Holy spirit moment, because why did I think that? But I really started to think, like, why did I think differently than her? And how can I wire my brain to think differently? And as I became curious and then I obsessed and I always jokingly say, the doctor behind my name stands for desperate enough to go figure it out. I'm like, I'm not a smarty pants. I'm just, I wanted to really see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. And I said, okay, let me learn now. Let me be clear. I was the only believer in those PhD rooms.
C
Yeah.
A
So as I was learning about neuroplasticity and how the brain works and how the brain wired, two things were happening. First of all, scripture. I still get goosebumps when I think about it. Scripture transformed to me. And I just realized our loving father didn't just give us his word of light and truth. He gave us a manifesto. Everything I was learning in the neuroscientific rooms, God said first in the Bible, in order of how our brain works. Like, let that land for a second. Like when he says to take thought, cap, take thoughts captive. He says that before renewing your mind. Why?
C
Wow.
A
Well, because the science shows us that if we first have to know the thought that is taking us off course or that the lie that is being perpetuated before we can take that thought and make it new. And so all of a sudden, I'm like, quoting scriptures and stuff because I'm like, it's all there. He didn't leave us without the manual.
C
Yes.
A
But unfortunately, we get taught to use it in that way. What I learned in those rooms that I want your listeners to hear, and the Lord's already told us, but it's going to land a little different, is that God made our brain so amazing that when we fill it with what is good, true, pure, and lovely, then 90%, 90 of our decisions, our actions, and our results will be automatic. This is from our subconscious part of our brain. And he wired us in a way to make us successful. He wired us in a way to make us be able to step into everything that we are called to do and be with joy, with peace, with freedom. Yet at the same time, the enemy knew that all he had to do was so you're not good enough. Lie or you're not. You don't belong. Lie or you're not worthy, or we don't do that lie. Or in my family, it's well, on the backs of good people, you know?
C
Yeah.
A
And so. And to your families of origin, good, bad, or anywhere in between, you don't have to deep dive back into that. But what you do get to do is start to understand how do I build a pathway toward the calling that God has put in my life? And maybe even more importantly than that, because he will order your steps regardless. What will block anything that the Lord has got assigned on you is if the lie is more powerful than the truth. And that's why he says that truth sets us free. It's not just of course Jesus sets us free, but the thoughts that we think the only way the subconscious creates at all is through repetition.
C
Yeah.
A
And so in those neuroscientific rooms, learning that neuroplasticity the ability to do something new happens by repetition. And the opposite is true, too. So the more that in our childhood of origin, environment of origin, good, bad, or in between, whatever the patterns were, the part of our brain that can fight it. I call it the Southern mama part of our brain. You know, they're like, you mess with my kids, I'll cut you. You know what I'm saying? That part of our brain, that's our prefrontal cortex, right? It's right here behind our forehead, and it's the part that says, I don't believe that. That's not true. That capacity doesn't come fully online for us to. We're like, 22.
C
Wow.
A
Okay, so if we're 8, 9, 10.
B
Yeah, that's not even fully. It's.
A
It's not there. And so. So whatever patterns were around us. And that's why God gives so much instructions to raise up children in a certain way. Right. And so just to the mamas out there, like, your job is way more important. And I'm a CEO of two businesses. Your job is the future depends on it. Right? How we raise up our child in their minds and how they think, and even when we make mistakes, because as parents, we do. Yeah, but can we. Can we be humble and honorable enough to say, you know what, I was wrong, and let me tell you how my thinking broke down. And do that processing with your kids, okay? So they can learn. Little side note, but so they can learn. Because it's not taught in school. It's not taught you. Like, I stumbled into this and became obsessed enough to learn it. But I do believe that it is our birthright as daughters and sons of the most high God, to take dominion and authority over the system that God gave us, this brain. So that the 90% that goes on autopilot honors God, steps us into our destiny and allows us to truly claim the territory that we are meant to claim in our lifetime.
B
Wow, Dr. Shannon, this is powerful. I can even feel the presence of God here. Now, in regards to just how you so beautifully said that his word aligns and it matches up with science.
A
It does.
B
And that God created it. He created it. And when you were talking about the neuroplasticity and just our subconscious, it made me think of the Garden of Eden.
A
Yeah.
B
And that God created us in his image and his whole heart for us was that we would not sin. Right? Like, he created this place where we can have dominion over it. But we did sin. But through that sin, he still sent his son Jesus to redeem us.
A
Yeah.
B
But I was beginning to think about even with our, you know, being human and having flesh and having, you know, a physical brain, our organ here to where we've been through trauma, we've been through different experiences, is that God is able to redeem that. Yes, through science, through what we're meditating on. He gave us our words so that we could truly renew and restore our thinking into his healthy pattern. So I just love how you just broke that down for us. And like you call it, you believe in biblical neuroscience. So I just love how you share that. So whenever you may be feeling like you are fighting your own mind, have any of you guys ever felt that you may be thinking that you're doing that, but really it's about God's calling. There's actually a scientific reason. Have you ever wondered why you can believe God's promises in your heart, but your mind keeps arguing? I mean, that's. You know, for me personally, it's been the battle of my mind. Right. And I know that for many of you listening right now, you've had that same struggle. So what you just shared, Dr. Shannon, explains so much, because there is actual brain science behind our unhealthy thinking patterns. So now I want us to go into why our brain resists our calling. And you kind of hit on that.
A
Yeah, a little bit.
B
A little bit. But I would love for you to do even a bigger, you know, dive into that, because many of our listeners, they've shared that they know that God has called them to something great, but they feel stuck.
A
Yeah.
B
And even before this session, you were even going into just certain women who are mature and they've given their life over to certain things. So I'd love for you to kind of just, you know, dig into that. Why does our brain often resist our calling?
A
Probably my favorite question I've ever been asked.
C
Yeah.
A
So your brain, how God designed it, it was designed to have it completely filled with truth.
C
Wow.
A
So if you think about a brain completely filled with truth and 90% on autopilot toward God's calling on your life, then there's no friction. So in God's design of our brains, he meant for that what I just described that utopian brain. Right. For that to be safe.
C
Okay.
A
So think about standing on the edge of your destiny, impacting the most amount of people in the world, speaking out God's glory, all these big, giant things. If our mind is renewed and we think on those things, then that feels safe to our brain and we do more of it. So God wired us that our brains wiring is to keep us safe back. Think about, like I always joke around when people say cave days, like nobody was around then. So I don't know. But you know, the systems that he put in us kept us from danger. That's our fight or flight system. And the environment was pretty intense. And so keeping us safe, that. That was a powerful tool that differentiated us from the animals and all that. So we were able to see danger and do something about it. So what happens is, of course we, we don't have to slay the dragon of the grocery store.
B
Right.
A
It's all there for us. And so we have access to not life and death threats for the most part.
C
Right.
A
So now our brain, if it's left neutral. There's a scripture that says if the, if the, if the house is cleaned, if somebody's talking about taking a demon out is like the house is clean, you don't fill it up with anything else. Ten more or seven more, more powerful will come in. Right. And it's the same thing if you, if you feel stuck, if you feel like I know that I'm called, why can't I step into it? I sabotage myself. Or I'm a perfectionist. Yeah, right. And I have to be perfect and I have to sound good and I have to all the things. Or I have to be smart enough. I have to know scripture by heart.
C
Yeah.
A
Or all those things. What's happening is your brain thinks where you're headed is unsafe. Now who's the author of that? Yeah, right. Not, not the Lord. And so what we get to know is we get to thank our brain for keeping us safe and start to just gain there's just like a little distance between ourselves and what we're thinking. And if, If I can. You can indulge me, I'd like to kind of give a quick little formula. I'm a step by step girl. Like, please give me the steps. Like, motivate me, but tell me how you know. And so what I learned is how the brain actually allows something to get built in the brain, very important information. We believe how we feel.
C
Yes.
A
Is real. And God gave us emotions. Emotions are good. However, if you, when you study and you see it's even in scripture, I use the acronym stub dar. Like a situation happens. I want to step into this calling. I want to do this thing. I want to get on stage, I want to write a book. I want to be at home with my kids, whatever it is. A lot of your listeners, they've Poured out their lives for their family, for their kids, and even a career. And now they're sitting there thinking like, lord, I really want to do a big thing for you. So that's the situation. Situation is neutral in our brains. So God designed us in a way that our thoughts. Because he created through. Through speaking.
C
Right, right.
A
He didn't create it through feeling, he created it through speaking. And I got to keep reminding myself of that because there's times I want to create when I'm feeling. But he created, spoke the thought into existence. I'll put a pin in that for later. But we know from, from scientific studies, peer reviewed, nobody can argue with it now. Thoughts, the thought center of the brain fires before the emotional center of the brain. So we know that what we think creates our emotions. So that's thoughts. Te emotions and thoughts and emotions in the brain after repetition combine to become a belief. So remember how I was saying it's a reps game before? So whatever was repeated around you, someone else's thoughts created someone else's emotions and therefore someone else's beliefs. And that got repeated over you in childhood.
B
That's generational.
A
That's generational, yeah. That's how the generation, that's how that happens. But the great news is it doesn't matter what you've been through. And I'm with you. I've been through some pretty big traumas in my life. You can walk through this step by step and truly train your brain to step into the calling that you have. But you can't do it on autopilot.
C
Okay.
A
You've got to kind of take your thoughts off of, oh, that's just how I am. That's just how I think. That's just who we are. And, and start to start to question the thoughts that you hear because you usually aren't saying them out loud.
B
No, it's all, it's all up here.
A
And that's exactly what the enemy of our soul wants to have happen. If he can get us in the washing machine in our brain and we don't actually. Because if you just try this for your listeners. Try this. It's a hack.
C
Yeah.
A
Get alone if you need to because you don't want to be embarrassed. But go into the closet, the bathroom, wherever, and say what you're actually thinking out loud. Yeah, it's crazy what will start to happen because God has ordained you to fight that. And so your brain, your, your, your cognitive brain will start really arguing with that thought immediately. So, so the enemy of our soul knows if he can just keep that thought in the washing machine of your mind. It will grow neural pathways, and then as TD Jake says, what you repeat, you will create. Right. And so the repetition is the key, but it's the first key of it, is recognizing what the heck is the thought that I think when I start to go do the big thing. And there's no real shortcut to it. So if you're called to speak on stage, go get on a stage and you'll hear that thought. And then God has given us a plan and science has shown us how to take that thought captive step by step. And that's what sex captives free Jesus does, of course. And he can do it overnight. There's no. I've seen it happen.
C
Yeah.
A
But he also said, now go walk in this way. And so knowing that situations are neutral, thoughts create emotions, and thoughts and emotions combine to become beliefs. And that belief, that's where it goes into the subconscious, and that's where it starts running 90% of your decisions and actions and results. I don't know about you, but when I started to understand that, I'm like, wait, what you just told, like, that's how it's in scripture. Yeah, but I read it as religious text. No, no, no, no, no, no. It was, girl, this is how you do this.
B
This is how you're made.
A
This is how you're wonderfully and fearfully made. If it works toward the negative, then it's got to work toward the positive.
C
Yeah.
A
And so without going too deep into it, we've got to build the pathways toward what we want. We do that by speaking out as if it is. And then we've got to break down those lies. We've got to break down those step by step lies that have made you believe you are something less than you're called to be.
B
And just. Even just with what you're sharing, I do have a question, because I know too. I love how you said that we can relate, that we can read the word or even just Scripture.
A
Yeah.
B
Through the religious text. Right. Where you're hearing it from a message. And some people are a bit afraid to go into the science part, right?
A
Oh, yeah, absolutely. Trust me, I was the only believer in the room. And being able, one person got saved and the rest couldn't wait to get me out.
C
Oh, really?
B
Yeah. See, so. So my question would be is how long is that process? Right. And I know that some people are like, well, I would love for it to be six months, a year. Is. Have you found that it really Is an ongoing process that it is a muscle that you just have to exercise so that whenever those emotions or feelings do come, you know how to combat them. Because I think that's for me, too. I'm like. It's like, hey, put the bad thought and then put a scripture. But I'm like, but if you don't understand the science behind it, like, that can be tiring.
A
Yeah.
B
Because you don't really have the belief system.
A
So when you're doing that. And. And the scripture is what we renew our mind with.
B
Right.
A
But we can't. It's like putting a band aid over a gaping wound. We actually have to heal the wound. And then the band aid works. Right. And so as we are thinking through how do I do this? And how long is it going to take? Every. This is the number one thing people think, oh, this is going to be hard.
C
Yeah.
A
This is going to be heavy.
B
Right.
A
I don't know about you. I'd done all those things.
C
Yeah.
A
I had. I tried everything known to man and did it all the way the pastor told me.
B
Yeah.
A
And I was still thinking the thoughts.
C
Yes.
A
And so I'm like, okay, what's wrong with me? What's broken with me? Am I not a good enough Christian that I don't believe enough? Like, all those things? And what I learned in those rooms is it's actually God wired it in a way that it can be done in 67 days or less. Wow. And that's why we call our whole thing that we do 67 day year, because you can fully do the two things I'm talking about. Build a pathway. So think about it like a freeway. Right. If you're building a freeway, it's got to be drivable, and it's got to be it in that stages. Right. So you got to build the freeway, and you've got to jackhammer the freeway that you've been on so that your brain won't return to it. And so that's what I went to try to discover, like, why my brain thought differently. But what I discovered through synaptic pruning, which is what we're talking about, that is actually a quick process.
B
Wow.
A
That God wired us to where a lot of people say this. So this isn't mine. But what. What fires together, wires together. We know that from neuroscience now. So now we can use that system to. To build what we want and then remove those things that are going to keep us back from it like a tether. So if anybody's listening to this and they feel stuck. They feel not, you know, like they can't fulfill that. It is literally your 67 days away from a freedom that you were always called to, but the enemy found a way to just have you one degree off and then that one degree, as, you know, if you think about a pilot, if he's one degree off, he ends up in an entirely different city. That's it. But we are daughters of the most high God. Our destiny and what we have, if we actually primed that into our brain as truth, not as yes and amen on Sunday. Okay. But, like, I wake up and believe that. Believe.
C
Believe it. Yeah.
A
That's a. That's a biblical process. Yes. But it's also a brain process. Belief is built in the brain. And so now that we know it and we. We know we're not our thoughts, maybe we can get a little bit more objective. And when we hear that thought that's stopping us or slowing us down, the biggest thing to do is to go after it like it's the destroyer of your life. Because it is.
C
Yeah.
A
And so I'll give it to you. This is probably better in a story. So when I was starting my podcast back in the day, I was sitting down and I was thinking to myself, I'm like, doing all the things because I'm a doer, right? So doing. I don't have to think. But once I started thinking about it, I was like, who's gonna listen to me?
C
Yeah.
A
And you know how this goes. Like, it's not like it's.
B
Yeah.
A
People like us, your listeners, we're like. And we just keep going, right? We kind of swat it away. It's the worst thing we can do is swat it away, because it just strengthen it. It's like it just gets it stronger. And so of course, I have the tools that I teach people. And so I said, I'm like, wait, okay. So first thing that I did is I put that on trial. I'm like, so the. The key here on any belief that's keeping you stuck is you've got to say it out loud.
C
Yeah.
A
Because the enemy wants to keep it in secret. And if you can keep it, like I always said, the Washington machine, in your mind, it's going to keep growing. So I said out loud, I don't have enough value to bring to this podcast. And I mean, I want your listeners to try this right now, because something in the spirit that's in you rises up like a holy hell.
C
No.
B
Yeah.
A
You know, that's all they can say. It's like your logical brain, this prefrontal cortex. We know this is what happens now. Kicks in and starts arguing with that because it. For the first time.
C
Yeah, you're saying.
A
You're saying, yeah, that could have been there since 8.
C
Yeah.
A
And for the first time, your brain, you anointed called you is hearing it and you like, that's how you can do something about it. And so you start going it after week. I call it like, you lawyer up. Right. If you are putting it on trial, you'd be like, you know what? My kids listen to me. And they actually are doing really, really well. And you know, with my clients. And so you start coming up with evidence. And what this is doing, neurologically speaking, is shaking the foundation of that freeway. But we don't want to stop there. Remember, thoughts, that's logical. Emotions combine. And so one of the really ninja hacks I call it to go after this is we. We tend to. Especially women, we tend to think far worse about ourselves than we would anybody else. Like, I believe Jesus can do anything for you, but for me. Right. But we wouldn't verbalize that, but we do. And it's. That's actually scientific. It's a negativity bias. And women have 10 times wider corpus cabellum. And that's the part of us that can connect things. That's why we can't stop thinking about what's for dinner when we're in a meeting and this and that. Where men's. No offense, men, if you're listening. And it's. We're all. We're meant to be together, but theirs is like razor thin. That's how they're able to really focus. So why is that important to this? Because we see so much more negative about ourselves.
C
Yeah.
A
So if I just said to you, think about all the reasons that's not true for you.
C
Yeah.
A
You'd struggle.
B
It would be hard.
A
Be hard. Because people like.
B
But with this, all the different examples, what happened yesterday, what I thought. All of it. Yeah.
A
Yeah.
B
So.
A
So the hit the HAC is pick your favorite person. I know you love all your children equally and your husband and all that, but pick one. I call Ride or die. Somebody that you would jump in front of a bus for that kind of person. And I know you do that for your whole family, but pick one. And just not to their face. Get alone, but out loud. Imagine a bully is speaking that lie that you had. Like, for me, it was, you don't have enough value. And I imagined it being Max, my son, and and in most moms especially, you're like, yeah, I already can't do this. But it's not you doing. It's a bully. So I want you to imagine you're in a room, your ride or die is there, and this bully is with the finger wagging, saying, you don't have enough value to bring to the world. Well, I said, you know, the Southern mama in me, I'm like, really? I'm like, he's this, he's this, he's like, like floodgates, right? So you just record that or write it down. And what happens is that's truth for you, but you just couldn't see it because of this negativity bias. So this is a very emotional truth where the lawyering side is just more logical truth. Those we combined and start repeating on a regular basis so that that freeway completely crumbles within 60 days. Could be seven generations deep, and it crumbles within 67 days.
B
I mean, ladies, I. I've never heard anything like that. I think that is just so profound of even just seeing that The Lord wants us to be free and he's provided science along with his word to help us actually live free. And I believe that this is why so many women can have those prophetic words. They can, you know, go through deliverance, but they still feel paralyzed in their call or just feeling stuck. And I'm just grateful to have you because our listeners are now able to see that this is not new Age thinking. Okay? This is ancient wisdom.
A
Ancient wisdom.
B
God created modern understanding and knowing that we don't have to live 20 plus years going around that same mountain year after year that the Lord really wants us to be free. So are you having trouble trusting God's timing or you feel like you're stuck even though you're doing all the right things? Dr. Shannon just explained why our brains might be interpreting the weight as danger. Keep listening because what she says next will reframe the entire way you approach spiritual obedience. And how many of you need to be encouraged in regards to saying yes to God? Because I have found in different seasons of my life, biblical obedience has been a bit harder. Just like you shared in regards to even just us as women, right? How we can overthink. We can easily get overwhelmed and think about, you know, what could go wrong. So what's beautiful about your story, your ministry, your business, what you do is that you've identified three biblical principles that are actually brain rewiring instructions. So I would love for you to just be able to walk us through that. So the first one is how we can renew our mind daily.
A
So renewing the mind is really, I. I can boil that down to one simple action. To me, I'm a like, give me the practical, give me the step. Don't. Don't do that. So it corresponds with another one which is taking your thoughts captive, just listening to your thoughts.
C
Yeah.
A
When you're doing everything that you want to be doing and it's going great, guess what? That's already a pattern. That's already hardwired. And so we have amazing things that are hardwired. Like we were talking beforehand how, like, driven and all the things that God has put in us and that we didn't get a lie, that took it off course. And it's, you know, whether it's your nurturing, you're always listening. It's different for all of us because we're, you know, all parts of one body, but really being aware of the thoughts, when you're not headed to where you want to be, just get that little space. You know, a lot of us, especially when we hit 45, 50, we start struggling with identity. Right. It's like, who am I now? And a lot of the thoughts that we think during that period can create the next decade. You know, am I going to thrive or am I going to survive? Right. And so in your walking out daily life, when you're up against tension, resistance, you want to go do the thing, but you feel scared, just pause. And I like to say it like this. What thought is your brain serving you? Because it's not truth until it's validated as truth. So, like, if my brain was saying, I don't have enough value to bring to the podcast, well, yes, I did. And God was called. And so just getting that little bit of space is going to help you renew your mind in a way to just now, for the first time, probably as an adult, be able to say, I believe that or I don't.
C
Yes.
B
And I love that because just even with what you shared about renewing our mind, you know, daily taking those thoughts captive, you even went into that earlier in the conversation and to think on what is true. And I just loved how you really challenged us to take our thoughts to trial. Right. Of like, hey, there's some accountability here. Yes, I, you know, these negative thoughts, these words that I've been believing, even just access that I've been given to the enemy and into my emotions, into my mind, I have the authority to actually judge them.
A
Yeah, right.
B
I have the authority to Actually tell those thoughts to go back to where they came from.
A
Oh, my gosh.
B
And really just, I believe, just even today, like, you're helping us to put our armor back on, to stand up, to stop being pushed around. Many women you have been feeling pushed around. You've been feeling like, I just, I'm hopeless. I'm tired of fighting. I'm. I'm tired of doing the same thing over and over again. But I believe that if you really are listening, and you may have to hear this conversation multiple times. Okay. Because again, if you've been thinking this way for decades, you're going to also have to put that same energy into rewiring and. And continuing to trust God to help you through that. So. So I just love this. So God wasn't just giving us spiritual advice. Dr. Shannon, you have so beautifully and eloquently shared with us the first two biblical brain principles, which. The first one is, renew your mind daily. The second one is to take our thoughts captive. And the third one is think on what is true. So how can we do that?
A
Okay, this one, like, as you were about to, because I knew it was coming. I just felt like the presence of the Holy Spirit. Women, remember, you were made in the image of your creator, our creator, God. Like, look out your window, look at your ocean, look around at what God created. You were made in his image as a creator. You are a creator. And again, no offense to men, but women are creators of life. That is the mantle that we have been given. Now, that doesn't mean you need to be a mom, right? You can be an auntie, you can be whatever. But what I'm saying is that word think in the scripture, when you break it down, we read it and we're like, yeah, I should, right? Didn't you? We should. Yeah, I should think on. I should try to think on this, that and the other thing that word means think now. Keep thinking. Never stop thinking. Think again. Remember what I said? It's just reps. Yeah, it's just reps. So the key when we're talking about think on what is good, true, pure and lovely. How did God create? He spoke, so there's no mystery like he is telling us. I'm not saying sit on your rock in your closet and think. I'm saying. I'm sorry, this is just me. Girl, get up. Get up and speak out. What you want to be true. It's not woo. It's not new Age. It is scriptural. There. You cannot tell me anywhere in scripture that God created, but he didn't speak it out loud. He's giving us a mirror. He's giving us an image. And you were made in his image. So if we really want to think on whatever we think is good, true, pure and lovely, aligned with scripture, of course, whether it's write the book, get on stage, be the nanny, whatever it is, then think. Keep on thinking. Repeat the thinking. He's showing us there. This is how we renew our mind. This is how we can always think good, true, pure, lovely, praiseworthy. Because we're gonna speak it out loud. We are gonna something. Now we know this from science. Guaranteed in the next five years they're gonna actually quantify this. Okay, this is really exciting to me. Quantum mechanics and all. This is not woo.
B
This is.
A
God made this. Right. And so the energy in which, when you speak, you might have seen these on Instagram or wherever. Where there's a plant in one room that gets spoken positively over. Have you ever seen this? So they're now determining spoken word has an energetic frequency that the thought word does not.
B
Wow.
A
And it's like, wait, this sounds New Agey.
B
No, it sounds like what you just shared. Yeah, yeah.
A
So two plants, two different rooms. One's only spoken over, positive, affirming, life, good, true, pure, lovely, praiseworthy. The other room, it's negative. You're bad. You would never. All the thoughts we think in our head already. This plant grew three inches in that month. This plant died.
C
Wow. Oh, my goodness.
A
Same nutrients, same lighting, same environment, everything.
C
Wow.
A
So God is telling us something when he says speak it out. So think on what is good, true, pure and lovely. My encouragement, ladies, is do not do that. Just. Yes, of course, in your prayer time, but I. Even in your prayer time, I'd say start speaking it.
B
Start talking. Yeah, that's. No, that's powerful because I was even having a conversation with my daughter I was telling you about, and I was encouraging her. I was like, say it, speak it. Yeah, pray it. Because if it keeps staying in your mind, it's just going to continue to ruminate and then it's going to affect your body.
A
Yeah.
B
Your physical body. To where you could, you know, end up. I know for me, there was moments where I was having like digestive issues, physical pain. Because we weren't meant to keep it in here. We weren't meant to keep it in our body, you know, in that way.
A
Yeah.
B
So I love that God wasn't just giving us spiritual advice, he was giving us the brain manual. So, Dr. Shannon.
A
Yeah.
B
Here is a real comment from Our community. That absolutely broke my heart when I read it.
A
Okay.
B
She wrote, I feel like it's too late for me now. At the age of 65, I watched this episode and I and was encouraged. But those negative emotions are fear based.
A
Yes.
B
How would you help her rewire these fear based thoughts about age and timing?
A
Yeah, absolutely. So the process that we walked through earlier is exactly where I'd start. First of all, anytime you feel that stuck.
C
Yes.
A
And that discouraged. We've got it. Before we start doing this work of rewiring. And remember I said it's actually pretty fast. Yes, it's actually very fast. So I want you to remember that because it's because the world has told us that it's hard, but God tells us that he can set the captives free. And so it's fast. But first we need to look for evidence in our environment. So I'd encourage her. If I was sitting across from her, I'd say first of all, before we even rewire, let's go out and look for evidence of people who started in their late 50s and 60s.
B
I like that.
A
Let's start looking at the colonel, the KFC, who started at 59.
B
Let's go find.
A
There's so many people. Martha Stewart just. There's so many people. I'm not thinking of like the perfect ones for her because I would, I would know her and know who would be inspiring to her. But some of the most decorated influencers online right now are ladies in their 70s getting healthy, getting, well, getting. So find a lot of external evidence to see that it's possible because then your brain will start to shift from it's not possible, which is where she's at right now, to probably, okay, it's possible, but is it possible for me, and that's now we can go and we can rewire that thought. So just really taking her through, identifying that thought, which she's already kind of saying. So she's already saying it's too late.
C
Yes.
A
And so I would really help her start to see evidence, lawyer up again. Like, what is evidence that it's not too late. Like you're showing up for your kids in a certain way, your church, your church group. Like where are you showing up that if you didn't show up, things would crumble. Right. Start looking for that evidence that, that of people you respect, that you couldn't imagine them not sharing their gifts at their age. Right. And so start with the logical and then move on to that we call mirror emotional. That to remove the negativity Bias. Imagine her, I don't know who's important to her, but have her pick somebody who's already in their 60s.
C
Yeah.
A
You know, maybe it's a friend or whoever. And imagine a bully going after them, saying, it's too late for you. Just, just, just, you know, hang up the. Hang it up. It's just sitting, you know, just wait to go.
C
Yeah.
A
I think the ire in her would rise up and say, oh, you know, and so just capturing all that. And then once we've captured that logical and that evidence that is emotional, then we do what's called a truth prime. Now this is biblical too. So God says to renew our minds. That again, when we look at what God's word origins are. So think is, think, keep on thinking. You know, that renew is continual. So it's, it's not a one and done, it's do every day kind of thing. And so once we see the truth, the truth sets us free. That's a truth. That's from scripture. It's not just Jesus. Jesus is the one that sets us free. Let me be clear.
B
Right.
C
Yes.
A
We can do nothing apart from him. So, but he's giving us a clue here that once we have truth, if we repeat truth, it will set us free. And so once we have this truth prime, we read it to ourselves out loud every day. We listen to ourselves saying it. Morning before our feet hit the floor, after we've been with the Lord, of course, at bed, right before we go to bed. Why? Because that's when our brain hardwires things in our sleep. And so as we sleep, if the last thing we hear is the truth, that we want to build a freeway to guess what's going to go in and start to be built right on hyperspeed. And so God's designed it this way that we don't have to, doesn't have to be might and through effort. It's by his spirit, says the Lord, like, but get in alignment with what he says about you and start to get really. I would say to her, my heart goes out for. To her so much. Like, start to get a holy spirit fervor for what God thinks.
C
Yeah.
A
And even borrow that if you can't believe it. Because in it really does go like in the beginning, you're like, okay, that feels great. But I still think the thoughts.
C
Yeah, yeah.
A
So don't get, don't equate that to something not working right. It's just we're in the process.
C
Yeah.
A
And so that process goes from. Okay, this feels Silly, Right. And I don't believe it to I feel nothing. So I can tell you in, in, in a. From the brain's perspective. If I was scanning your brain, I know there's a network and it's not fully built, but it's already built. That's why the old has passed away.
C
Yeah.
A
But the new is still on its way. So it's in that process. And then we. Any compound interest, you know, like how that works. Same thing with renewing your mind. It goes from this doesn't feel like things are changing to neutral to completely gone within 67 days.
C
Wow.
A
So be encouraged. That's how I would take her through. I wish. You know, I always say I want to take live callers to be able to do that right away. Right?
C
Yeah.
A
Because it's really within a short 5, 10 minutes we can have the pla, the plan and the map and then it's just up to her to do the reps to make sure that it happens.
C
Wow.
A
Look, do you want to become hardwired for the next level in your business? That's the power of becoming a 67 day year CEO. When you stop working in the business and learn how to work on the business, getting 10 to 20 hours back in your week, having a team of A level players that are revenue generators and taking you from a overworked, burnt out CEO to the owner of your business with hardwired systems that scale and a hardwired CEO that can lead from above. If you're at six or seven figures, take a look at the link in the show notes and you will have an opportunity to watch a free training on exactly what are these five systems and how do we hardwire them so that you can scale. The link is down in the show notes. All right, back to the program.
B
We're going to share towards the end how you all can stay connected with Dr. Shannon to follow up on her work. Because just what the Lord has given you is so revolutionary and so necessary and needed for the body of Christ right now to really help us get to where we need to be. So I would love for you to share with our listeners three things that they can do practically to help them begin to rewire their brains.
A
Absolutely. This is my favorite bar because I'm all about action. So number one, give yourself the one second. So that one second between the thought and the reaction. If you can just start, that's a muscle. So as you think, the thought in your mind, if you can just say this one thing. Hold on. Is that true? And and just start questioning. And if it is true and it's helpful.
C
Yeah.
A
Give yourself a high five and keep going. But if it's not true, you've just uncovered something that's slowing you down and keeping you from God's best for your life. So pause is what I would call that first step. Second step is the reps. Know that anything can be done in 67 days. But it's kind of like going to the gym. We don't. We. We think this. We know that somebody goes to the gym, they don't, like, lift weights for one day and walk out and go, all right, am I buff here?
B
Do I have six pack?
A
Like, we laugh, but it's true. We know I've got to go back consistently to build muscle. Guess. Wait. The neural networks are exactly the same, so get the reps in. Even when it doesn't feel like it, speak out in the mirror. I am called by God, anointed for this calling. Like. Like, I know a lot of people make fun of Joel Olsteen, but the guy like. Like, he can. He's a master at it. So, like, don't try to think of it in the moment, because you won't think of it.
B
Right?
A
Right. So. So that truth prime that we talked about creating, have it on your mirror. Have it in voice recording. You can listen to it before you go into a meeting and speak it out loud so that you can get the reps.
C
Okay.
A
And then the third. And this is very. Just connected to the Lord and to the Word. I want to honor the Lord right now.
C
Yeah.
A
As believers, we believe his word, but what would the church be if the Bible, if the word, if the truth was hardwired, meaning, I don't have to pause now. I'm still work in progress on that. So I haven't arrived, but I'm just saying, even I have generational anxiety. My mom had massive level of agoraphobia where she never could travel very far, all that kind of stuff. And I knew for my kids to have a fighting chance, I needed to rewire that. And taking God's word, making the decision that you believe it and then not just doing the I believe it, I call it the I believe it nod. Or on Sunday, it's like, amen nod. It's prime it. Repeat it enough that your subconscious fires it without your knowledge or permission, because that, my friends, sets you free. So definitely getting that space, getting that second, definitely get the reps in and then start to take scripture, just one scripture a week, and start to prime It. And when I say prime it, that means repeat it so much that your brain has to hardwire it.
C
Yeah.
B
And I. And I have done that in the past to where, just even with scripture, repeating it over and over and over again, like. Like it really does begin to shift your thinking. And then it's like your soul has to come into alignment with it.
A
You said obedience.
C
Right?
A
Your soul. That is obedience. Hardwired.
B
Rejecting it. Yeah. Where it's like, no, I'm in control of this. Right. And the Lord has given me the authority.
A
Yeah.
B
To shape my world and to shape my thinking.
A
For his glory.
B
For his glory. Yeah. For his glory. Wow. So we see through what we've talked about with Dr. Shannon that our struggle isn't a faith issue. It's a wiring issue. God designed our brains to change and grow, and now you have the tools to partner with God's design. So thanks to Dr. Shannon, many of us, even including myself, I'm looking forward to putting those practical tips into action. Okay, so before we close in, a special prayer for our listeners, because today was just such a powerful, historic moment, I believe, for all of us. I would love for our listeners to know, how can they stay connected to you? How can they follow what you're doing? How can they rewire their thinking in 67 days?
A
I love it.
C
I love.
A
Okay, so a couple different ways. You can listen to my podcast, it's epic success Podcast. You can follow me on Instagram, if you're on Instagram @ Dr. Shannon Ervin. We'll walk you through step by step together.
B
I love that. So all that information is going to be listed in the show notes for you. And if you're on YouTube, the link will be in the description there. And I want you guys to flood her socials. Thank her. If. If you've been impacted by today's conversation, let her know, because as you can so beautifully see that this is something that Dr. Shannon is truly called to. You are passionate about it. And I feel like I've been through a whole neuroplasticity session just in this hour together. So, Dr. Shannon, usually I close this out with prayer, but I. I really feel led to have you just cover us in prayer as a community, especially after what the Lord gave you to share to us.
A
So I'd be so honored to do that. Let's do it. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, I just see an army of women standing up and taking their rightful place in your kingdom, Lord. Things that you called them to, things that you whispered in their spirit long before they were even born. Lord, that for such a time as this, this episode aired so that they can take authority and their rightful place in the kingdom, Lord, the women that are listening to this podcast, this YouTube video today, they are anointed. They are called, they are redeemed. And they are sent out by you to set captives free and to glorify your name. And so, Lord, give them a fresh anointing. Anointing, a fresh vision, a fresh hearing from your spirit. Let them listen to that small still voice that says, this is the way, walk in it. And Lord, some women that are listening today are the women that will be the generational shifters that will be like their, their legacy line was going one way. And because of this time, today they are now redeeming what the enemy was trying to steal in their, their family line. So I say yes and amen to that, Lord. And we join with that. And Lord, just pour out your blessing on these women. Give them a fresh vision, a fresh thought in their mind and let them know how much you are pleased with them. In Jesus name, amen.
B
Amen.
C
Amen.
B
Wow, what a powerful prayer. Thank you, Dr. Shannon, for covering us. And ladies, let us know, how has today's conversation shifted your thinking? What were some powerful nuggets and pieces of wisdom that you received? What were some epiphanies, some aha moments? Please know that what you share and communicate in the comments that our team reads them, I read them, and your fellow called sisters read them. So know that whatever you share, there could actually be an encouragement to see someone. And also it may be an invitation to that person of them being able to boldly say that, you know what, I'm ready for change, I'm ready for help, and I'm not alone.

Epic Success with Dr. Shannon Irvine
Episode: How to Hardwire Your Brain for Your God-Given Calling
Release Date: July 30, 2025
In this transformative episode of the Epic Success Podcast, host Dr. Shannon Irvine delves deep into the powerful synergy between neuroscience and biblical principles to help listeners master their God-given callings. Joined by Michelle, the conversation navigates through the intricacies of rewiring the brain, overcoming limiting beliefs, and embracing actionable strategies to achieve epic success in both life and business.
The episode kicks off with an inspiring introduction, where Michelle shares her admiration for Dr. Shannon's journey from a successful but burnt-out entrepreneur to a PhD in neuropsychology. She highlights Dr. Shannon's pivotal moment of realization:
“She was working 16 to 17 hours per day, making great money, but she felt trapped and torn between her business and her family. One day, she had a breakdown moment... instead of giving up, she realized something profound. She wasn't trapped by her circumstances. She was trapped by her thinking.”
— Michelle [01:10]
Dr. Shannon bridges the gap between faith and science by introducing the concept of Biblical Neuroscience. She emphasizes that renewing one's mind is not just a spiritual mandate but also a scientifically-backed process:
“When you truly understand how your brain actually works, obedience becomes easier, clarity becomes clear, and breakthrough becomes inevitable.”
— Michelle [01:35]
Delving into neuroplasticity, Dr. Shannon explains how the brain's ability to rewire itself aligns with biblical teachings on renewing the mind. She draws parallels between scripture and scientific principles, reinforcing that God's word serves as a manual for brain transformation:
“Thoughts, the thought center of the brain, fire before the emotional center. What we think creates our emotions.”
— Dr. Shannon Irvine [20:13]
A significant portion of the discussion focuses on identifying and dismantling limiting beliefs that hinder individuals from stepping into their divine callings. Dr. Shannon addresses how negative self-talk and inherited beliefs can sabotage one's potential:
“The enemy knows if he can just keep that thought in the washing machine of your mind, it will grow neural pathways.”
— Dr. Shannon Irvine [21:10]
Dr. Shannon provides a step-by-step guide to rewiring the brain for success, grounded in both neuroscience and scripture. She introduces the 67-Day Framework, emphasizing consistency and repetition in transforming thought patterns:
“Give yourself the one second between the thought and the reaction. Say, ‘Hold on. Is that true?’”
— Dr. Shannon Irvine [49:35]
“It's like going to the gym. You need to go back consistently to build muscle. The neural networks are exactly the same.”
— Dr. Shannon Irvine [50:04]
Encouraging listeners to speak positive affirmations aloud, Dr. Shannon underscores the importance of verbalizing truth to hardwire it into the subconscious:
“Think on what is good, true, pure and lovely. Align it with scripture and speak it out loud.”
— Dr. Shannon Irvine [38:00]
Michelle brings forward a listener's concern about feeling it's "too late" to pursue their calling. Dr. Shannon responds with empathy and actionable advice, reinforcing the episode's core message that transformation is achievable within 67 days:
“This is your 67 days away from a freedom that you were always called to, but the enemy found a way to just have you one degree off.”
— Dr. Shannon Irvine [25:52]
The conversation culminates with a heartfelt prayer and encouragement for listeners to connect with Dr. Shannon for further transformation. Dr. Shannon emphasizes the collective journey towards rewiring the brain in alignment with God's design:
“We are daughters of the most high God. Our destiny and what we have, if we actually primed that into our brain as truth, not as yes and amen on Sunday.”
— Dr. Shannon Irvine [27:00]
To ensure listeners can implement the strategies discussed, Dr. Shannon outlines three practical steps:
“Start speaking it out loud. It's not woo; it's scriptural. God made this.”
— Dr. Shannon Irvine [40:24]
The episode concludes with Dr. Shannon inviting listeners to stay connected through various platforms and encouraging them to take actionable steps towards rewiring their brains. She reinforces the transformative power of aligning one's thoughts with divine truth:
“We know that this is how you do this. This is how you are wonderfully and fearfully made. If it works toward the negative, then it's got to work toward the positive.”
— Dr. Shannon Irvine [22:58]
“God didn't just give us spiritual instructions. He gave us a brain manual. Your struggle isn't a faith issue. It's a wiring issue.”
— Michelle [00:29]
“What are you thinking? Your brain is serving you a thought, and it's up to you to validate it.”
— Dr. Shannon Irvine [20:38]
“God wired us in a way to make us successful. He wired us to be able to step into everything that we are called to do with joy, with peace, with freedom.”
— Dr. Shannon Irvine [09:12]
“I've found that neuroplasticity—the ability to do something new—happens by repetition.”
— Dr. Shannon Irvine [20:13]
This episode serves as a compelling blend of faith and science, equipping listeners with the knowledge and tools to overcome mental barriers and fully embrace their divine purposes. Dr. Shannon Irvine's insights into biblical neuroscience offer a practical roadmap for anyone seeking to transform their mindset and achieve epic success in all facets of life.
