Kaylee
Today, Dom and his cousins were all around that 8 to 10 or 11 years old, and they found Easter baskets. They found Easter baskets hidden in the closet. And they came running out to me and Kaylee, and they're like, we found our Easter baskets. And then they were like, wait, does that mean the Easter Bunny's not real? And Kaylee and I were sitting there looking at each other like we weren't prepared for this. Then it hit him like dominoes, and they were like, wait, does that mean Santa's not real? And we're like, well, okay. Well, I guess your childhood just ended.
Donald Stamper
Yeah. I remember when I, like, first found that out, then I was like, I wanted to believe it wasn't true. I was like, some people don't believe in God, but God's real. Maybe Santa is real. And I sort of was like, okay. But in my heart, I was like, I believe. I believe in you, Santa. Yes. When I notice I was focused, I.
Toyota Announcer
Just realign on my mind, crying.
Donald Stamper
Hey, guys.
Kaylee
Merry Christmas.
Donald Stamper
That's right.
Kaylee
It's Christmas week.
Donald Stamper
We made it. It's. You know, I was talking about this with some friends. It feels like the year flew by. But also, if I stop and take account of all the things that happened in the year, I'm like, oh, my God, it's been so long. Yeah.
Kaylee
It's like, this year's been a decade.
Donald Stamper
Exactly. Slash, I blinked, and it happened like, you know, it's so weird.
Kaylee
Oh, yeah. I was thinking. I was like, what just happened? I was thinking about the. And I was like, oh, my gosh it's been the longest year ever.
Donald Stamper
Right.
Kaylee
But also blinked your eye. But I was like, yeah, last December, I was launching Belvital, like, all these things. And then just so much changed with work and relationships and all that stuff, and I was just like, fuck this year.
Donald Stamper
Tell me how you really feel.
Kaylee
Yeah, no, fuck this year. That's how I feel. I'm done with this year. I say that every. That's been, like, every year for, like, the last four years. And I'm like, come on, 20, 20. One of these years got to be my year. Listen, I know every year is always going to have some ups and downs, but this one really felt the need to kick me repeatedly while I was down.
Donald Stamper
It's like, no, she's still moving. Kick her some more.
Kaylee
Literally. It was like. Then it started to walk away, and it came back, and it was like, nah, I kick you some more. I was like, okay, I got it. Message received.
Donald Stamper
Well, I'm putting into the universe a better year. I had a really good year.
Kaylee
I'm glad. I'm so glad.
Donald Stamper
You are a really big part of that. And us doing this podcast. We've been friends for, you know, nine years.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
And it's just. This has been so fun. Probably it's been, except for, like, when we lived with me, when I live with you, and we filmed, like, long periods of time, but I love the consistency. Like, we get to come and hang out, and it's fun. Was very inviting people to hang out with us. So that's one big highlight.
Kaylee
Very big highlight. Same for me. There have definitely been some high notes of the year.
Donald Stamper
When everything's that low, it ain't hard to say.
Kaylee
The bar ain't real high either.
Donald Stamper
Fair.
Kaylee
I was like, oh, my God, the sun's shining.
Donald Stamper
Like, gotta get it where you can.
Kaylee
Gotta get it where you can, man.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, but we made it. It's Christmas. And what are you doing for Christmas this year?
Kaylee
There's your answer.
Donald Stamper
Okay. Sometimes that's nice.
Kaylee
Yeah. No, I'm not doing anything. And honestly, I will say it, because I'm not the only one. I know that. And it can be very, like, kind of, like, lonely and sad. I'm choosing not to go to Ohio for it, but that's because I just went for Thanksgiving, and I'm sorry, but girl can't do cold twice like that.
Donald Stamper
That was a short period of time.
Kaylee
I know. But because I had Dom for Thanksgiving, his dad will have him for Christmas, so they'll be down in San Diego, which is. I love that he gets to go down there and be with his family down there because he's got cousins and stuff. So that'll be really fun. But, you know, when you're single.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
You spend it by yourself. So we all know what I'll do on Christmas day because I'll be by myself and Dom won't come home until after New Year's.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
I will make Christmas disappear.
Donald Stamper
Exactly. Take down all the decor. That's so funny. Except for we've talked about this, but I used to keep it up until New Year's Day.
Kaylee
Oh, no.
Donald Stamper
But now I can't. It has to. I keep it up, though. Like, up until New Year's Eve or the day before New Year's Eve.
Kaylee
If I had stuff going on, I would, but. Because again, like, I'm here by myself and Dom won't be back until New Year's Day. Like, I like to start the new year fresh without holiday decor up, so. And Dom will open presents with me before he goes to San Diego. So by the time he comes home, there's. There's no need for it to be up. So it'll be down.
Donald Stamper
Yeah. Well, I'll be spending Christmas in Puerto Rico.
Kaylee
I know.
Donald Stamper
It's my first time ever spending Christmas. Well, last year I didn't spend Christmas with my family, but we just spent Christmas at, like, at home. We're at home and then. So this is the first island Christmas that I'll ever have. I'm really excited. Yeah. You know, their Christmas spirit is very different than how I grew up.
Kaylee
Okay, what does that mean?
Donald Stamper
Like, I grew up, I guess, like White Christmas, Silent Night. Very like, choral sounding traditional songs. Like that kind of Christmas. Like the stillness of magic. Christmas magic. And they're like, celebrate like it's a pride festival.
Kaylee
Like it's 1999.
Donald Stamper
Exactly. They're partying in the streets. Their Christmas music is very upbeat, and.
Kaylee
They'Re rocking around the Christmas tree.
Donald Stamper
Exactly. Exactly. And so it was really cool. We went around Christmas time last year and that was my first time going. But we're gonna actually be there on Christmas this year. So I'm exc. Excited.
Kaylee
That's super fun. I might have to take a little. A little nod from Nell's handbook. I told you. My new thing is what would Nell do?
Donald Stamper
That's right.
Kaylee
Because when you and I were in Aruba, Nell was like, I'm going to Disneyland for the day. And he went by himself and said he had the best time. And I was like, you know, you just got to get used to it. You know, you can't just. If you sit at home by yourself, you're always going to be by yourself.
Donald Stamper
That's right.
Kaylee
You have to go do things. So. So maybe I'll go to Disneyland or something. That way I'm like around people. I love it and the holiday spirit. So we'll see.
Donald Stamper
Okay. So speaking of Christmas, we thought it'd be good to talk about all things Christmas with you guys. And we started with a debate and we were not really a debate, but so growing up, I've never really fully known what the Christmas dinner table is supposed to look like because I'm like, it's just, I don't want it to be the second, like the sequel to Thanksgiving and be exactly the same. But it seems like in all the movies. Movies, it is the same like a term.
Kaylee
I think it's very similar for a lot of people.
Donald Stamper
What, what was your like when you think traditional, how maybe how you grew up over the years? What was your main.
Kaylee
Well, okay, so the biggest thing was Christmas Eve was huge and our is huge in our family because we're Italian. So Christmas Eve dinner was always at my grandma's house and.

Kaylee
I hope I say this right. This is my my religious upbringing or lack thereof. Coming out. Feast of the assumption. We did the seven fish. Like we do a seven fish dinner.
Donald Stamper
Huh?
Kaylee
So Christmas Eve was seven different fish that you would have like. So everything we would have like shrimp appetizers to linguine pasta with squid in it and calamari. And my Grandpa would do an eel.
Donald Stamper
Oh, that's muscles.
Kaylee
Like. Yeah. Except you smell like fish for like a week. Smell like all of it. Like, so we had seven different fish. So that was Christmas Eve. Christmas Day was. Who had Christmas Day? Auntie Donna had Thanksgiving. Oh, it was at my Aunt Angie's. So we would always have pasta. I think we would, like, we would normally ham, like, but I think we would also have a turkey. But I think, like, on Thanksgiving, we only have a turkey, but on Christmas we also have a ham. And then I'm trying to, like, I feel like pasta was more prevalent.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
You know, when you mention this day, as much as, like, I doubt Christmas Eve sticks out Christmas Day. I'm like, well, I don't know. What did we eat?
Donald Stamper
Yeah. Christmas Eve. Same with me. We went to my grandma's on Christmas Eve. Yeah. And I loved. Loved that because all my cousin, like, on Thanksgiving is when we'd exchange names. And so we. We all got presents, like, from my grandma. She got us all something. But we'd also have a cousin gift exchange and fun. We all. It was potluck style, so there was tons of food. And it was very similar to Thanksgiving that on Christmas Eve, but on Christmas Day, a little bit later in life, my mom started making lasagna.
Kaylee
I was gonna say lasagna, like, because, like, we.
Donald Stamper
She did. I do remember, like, one time they had steaks. I want the tradition to be, I told you duck. I've never made a duck, but I love it.
Kaylee
I said, that's rich people food.
Donald Stamper
I said, one can dream, honey. I'm gonna find also no duck safe now. Everything I see is now I'm like, okay, I'm gonna get that duck and eat it. But my. I also sometimes like the idea of.
Kaylee
Do people eat, I don't know, don't they geese? I have no idea. I just made that up. But I think they do feel like it is like a goose is the thing.
Donald Stamper
Oh, my God. I consider myself a foodie, and I've never had goose. Yeah.
Kaylee
I had dug on Christmas once, and it was when Bobby made it for me. But you know, when you have a chef as a brother.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, he's gonna.
Kaylee
It was so good, though. Dom asks me for it every year now, and I'm like, I am not Uncle Bobby. I love the recipe's really easy. Maybe I'll do it for our Sunday dinner.
Donald Stamper
Yeah. I was gonna say, I'll help you.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
The two of us. Two of us can at least muster enough Bobby from within to make it.
Kaylee
We can channel our inner chef.
Donald Stamper
Yes. But I also sometimes think of the tradition, like, you know how, like, Christmas dinner goes terrible and everybody gets Chinese food. I kind of think that would be such a fun.
Kaylee
That would be so fun to do.
Donald Stamper
Yeah. Like, whatever. Chinese for Christmas. It's like. I think that'd be good.
Kaylee
Like, how they end Bad Mom's Christmas. She's like, we are staying in our pajamas all day. We will order Chinese food and watch Love, actually. And the mom's like, the horror.
Donald Stamper
Oh, my God. I actually. It's so funny because the first time I ever saw that movie, I think, was with your sister Kaylee. Okay. And she was like, this is our. This is my mom. She was like, that is my mom.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
Don't forget your Louis Vuitton gift bag.
Kaylee
Gift bag. Except she never did that. But. But everything else about the perfection of the holiday and all that. For sure.
Donald Stamper
That makes sense because she's such a. Like, her house is immaculate. Exactly.
Kaylee
Person.
Donald Stamper
Okay. And then I asked you, and I don't know, like, what memory? Like, something you only had around Christmas time. Maybe a treat or something like that? Mine. This is so random. Is popcorn balls. Because. Because the lady. There's a lady in our neighborhood who every year, she probably passed them out to all the neighbors.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
But she would make them and bring them over, and I was like, this is so delicious.
Kaylee
I do love a good popcorn ball.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
And we haven't had one in years. Pizzelles, which is an Italian cookie. They're so good. I'll make some this year. I'll bring. I'll give you some. So good. So we only make them at Christmas.
Donald Stamper
Italian cook. Is it just, like. Do you mean it's just, like, traditionally from Italy.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
I don't know if they were, like, you know, like, layered or if it was something.
Kaylee
Yeah, it. Like, it's very thin.
Donald Stamper
Okay.
Kaylee
Depending how long you cook it for. Because you do it in, like, what's called a Pitzell iron. So it looks similar to a waffle iron, but they're not thick like a waffle. They're really thin. They're sweet. They're like a little vanilla flavor. They're really good. I'll make them.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
It's really easy to make. And then we also. We use the same batter, but we'll leave it thicker. And we make this other version, which, I don't know. I just call it an Italian Christmas cookie. And you kind of make them in, like, the round ball, and we put, like, frosting on them, but it's like a powdered sugar, but it's just sort of watered down a little bit, so it's really thin. And you just dip it in there. They're so good. So those we only ever had at Christmas, at Christmas. But anybody's house that we went to because we lived in this, like, little Italian neighborhood. So, like, the whole family lived in the same neighborhood. What?
Donald Stamper
I'm just. You're ended up very discreet. I thought I was like, oh, no, sorry.
Kaylee
We only had those holiday. Like, we only have those cookies at the holidays. But, like, you could go any. Into any aunt's house, any. Anybody's house. And they're out like the Patels, the Italian cookies with the frosting. I just remember, like, aunts or uncles being at my grandma's. And they'd always be dipping them in their coffee. Oh, they're so good.
Donald Stamper
Oh, that sounds good. I'm ready. I'm ready for it.
Kaylee
Same.
Donald Stamper
Okay. So, yes, I have some questions, more about your trip. What you see, Maybe not like now, but what Christmas was growing up. What it. You know, like that nostalgia feeling of Christmas. Your Christmas tree, was it real or fake?
Kaylee
First of all, you're funny. You're like, not now because it's so depressing for you. Let's talk about.
Donald Stamper
I mean, like. Like, I have. I do it differently.
Kaylee
Different to that Christmas feeling is like, honestly, it changed. I think in general. We had fake Christmas trees. I don't really remember real ones. Like, my grandma had a fake one. My dad. So my grandma's was a fake one, but it was just like a regular green Christmas tree. And she had clear, like, the clear lights on them. And we decorated her tree on. Did we do it on Thanksgiving or did we do it on Christmas Eve? I. I don't remember the lights. I think we did it on. Thanks. No, I could be on Christmas Eve. I don't. No, it must have been on Thanksgiving because her tree was decorated for a while. But we, like, the family did it together. But my dad for a long time had a flocked tree. But we would do a flocked tree. Gotta be careful how you say that. And he did colored lights.
Donald Stamper
Okay.
Kaylee
My mom.
Donald Stamper
Huh.
Kaylee
Depends on the year. It was usually fake. Although I remember a real one a few times in there. But, like, when we were really little, it was like the colored lights with the big bulbs, you know, 80s.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
And my mom was always like. Because she's so arts and crafty. It was like we would make things. So we would, like, make ornaments to hang on there or we would make the popcorn street. I loved.
Donald Stamper
I remember being a little kid.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
And we. We had a, like, popcorn popper. Like, it was like a little air popper or whatever.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
And we just sit around and string the pop.
Kaylee
String it. And, like, Charlie Brown Christmas was playing or, like, Frosty the Snowman or whatever. Yeah. We would make it. Tinsel. We always had tinsel. I actually thought about doing, like, an 80s Christmas decor room this season. And I kind of had everything in my Amazon cart and just didn't pull the trigger. And then I just didn't pull the trigger. But I had, like, tinsel in there and the old big colored lights and, like, all the things. And I was like, that would be fun. Next year.
Donald Stamper
You should do it. We never did tinsel. I don't know why. Because I. I thought it looked pretty when I saw it on other people's trees. We almost always had a fake tree.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
I think when I was really little, like, once we had a real one, but we had a fake tree. We usually had white lights.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
Like the clear light.
Kaylee
The clear ones. Yeah.
Donald Stamper
And then we all. But very, like, warm Christmas colors, like red and green for in the ornaments.
Kaylee
Yes.
Donald Stamper
There was always an angel on top.
Kaylee
Same angel on top of my dad's and my grandma's. Not my mom's. My mom's was varied.
Donald Stamper
What's on top of your trees inside now?
Kaylee
A giant frosty head is on top of the living room tree, and a giant red bow is on top of the kitchen tree.
Donald Stamper
I like the bow topping the tree.
Kaylee
Yeah. I thought that was a really pretty one this year.
Donald Stamper
I think that's cute.
Kaylee
I change my tree topper a lot.
Donald Stamper
Me, too. We have a star on ours right now. But, I mean, if we close the door too hard, the thing gets lopsided and starts hanging. We gotta stand on this tool.
Kaylee
It's like.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, this isn't meant to balance up there.
Kaylee
Obviously, that's whoever came up with the ornament on top of the tree. They need to figure out a better way. That's actually why I like the bow. The bow doesn't go on. Like, it's, you know, like, what goes around a bread bag. Like the. Yeah. It's a twist tie that wraps around it so you're not trying to. Everything else star. All those things, they don't stay on top.
Donald Stamper
Exactly.
Kaylee
I mean. Yeah.
Donald Stamper
They're like, yeah, I love the bow. I think it's really cute. My mom started doing a bow, which I thought was so progressive because she was like, we need an angel. It's about Jesus. But I'm like, okay, well, the bow looks cuter. And especially if you have a big tree, you can't get like a topper that looks appropriate in size to stay up there. But you can get a big bow.
Kaylee
You can get a giant bow. Yes.
Donald Stamper
I love it.
Kaylee
Yes.
Donald Stamper
Okay, so the other question.
Kaylee
I love that D is like the host today.
Donald Stamper
I had all these questions.
Kaylee
I know I'm here for it. I love it. Do you?
Donald Stamper
Did you?

Donald Stamper
Today we're going to talk about, like, did you get presents from Santa when you were growing up?
Kaylee
Okay, so first of all, if you're listening with kids, now would be the time to pause and make sure your kids aren't around as we talk about Santa. Okay? Gave you guys all fair warning. So not yes, but no. Yes, I think a little bit. But I found out about Santa when I was very little because I have older brothers and sister. Okay, I was, I remember this plain as day. I was like laying on the couch. It was late and or later and I was pretending to be asleep and my dad and my sister were sitting on the floor next to the couch talking. But my sister's four years older than me, so I was probably only four, five. And so she was eight or nine. And my sister very much had to do a lot of like the grown up stuff very young because my dad was a single dad raising three kids. So my sister was like helping wrap presents and they were talking about Santa not being real because they thought I was asleep and I like flipped over and I was Like, Santa's not real.
Donald Stamper
Like, my whole life's been alive. Well, four years at that age, though.
Kaylee
Oh, yeah. So I didn't have a whole lot of time to believe in him. But then I remember saying something to my younger cousin, and my aunt lost her shit on me about it. But I was so little, I didn't know. And I was like, santa's not real. And my aunt was like, you can't tell her that. They told me.
Donald Stamper
I remember when I, like, first found that out, then I was like, I wanted to believe it wasn't true. I was like, some people don't believe in God, but God's real. Maybe Santa is real. And I sort of was like, okay. But in my heart, I was like, I believe. I believe in you, Santa.
Kaylee
But I don't. I honestly don't ever remember seeing presents that said from Santa. And I remember at a very young age looking for our presents. So I don't know if that was because I knew there was no Santa or if I was just looking. If we were just looking for presents from our parents.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
In general. Like, me, too.
Donald Stamper
From a young age, I remember being like, thank you so much, mom and dad.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
But I then like the way that my brothers do it, I think. I'm not sure that's why I asked you, because I actually never really thought about this. I was homeschooled. I didn't grow up around other kids. Like, I really don't. And by the time I had older friends, like, we knew we knew it. What do you think? At what age do kids stop believing in Santa?
Kaylee
I want to say it's probably somewhere around 8 to 10.
Donald Stamper
Okay.
Kaylee
Like, that's what I would think. Maybe 7 to 10, just depending. Right. Like, if they have older siblings, what they hear at school, what you see on TV. Dom and his cousins were all around that 8 to 10 or 11 years old. And they found Easter baskets hidden in my closet. This is when we all live together. And so we're like. And as we're stumbling over our words, they're realiz more and more that it's. That they're right. The Easter Bunny isn't real. And, like, then it hit him like dominoes. And they Were like, wait, does that mean Santa's not real? And we're like, well, well, okay. Well, I guess your childhood just ended.
Donald Stamper
Yeah. So we're like, welcome to adulthood.
Kaylee
Yeah. So go get a job.
Donald Stamper
There's no magic. Sorry.
Kaylee
Sorry. By the way, pain in the ass. We hate doing this.
Donald Stamper
Exactly.
Kaylee
Now you know.
Donald Stamper
So I.
Kaylee
But I always. For Dom, I always had presents under the tree from Santa and presents under the tree from us.
Donald Stamper
Okay.
Kaylee
And there were times, sort of, as I, like, grew into being a mom, like, where I was like. Like, at first, his presence from Santa would end up wrapped. Like, I always wrapped his presents, but I wrapped him in different wrapping paper than I wrapped the presents from me. But then I was like, well, shit, I'm just going to make the hard to wrap presents from Santa.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
And I'm just gonna stick him under the tree with no wrapping. But I didn't want a bunch of his presents to not be wrapped because I think part of the fun is.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, what is this? And I have another one. Yeah.
Kaylee
Yeah. So there was usually, like, one bigger present that wasn't wrapped under the tree. And then all his other presents were wrapped. Also, my kid is smart. And he picked up on the handwriting.
Donald Stamper
Wow.
Kaylee
And was like, mom, this handwriting looks like yours. And I was like, you're seven. Shut up.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, exactly. That's interesting. Yeah. I think that's what my brothers do. Or they might. I think maybe one of their households. Like, I got this from someplace. Santa does, like, one present, and then the rest are from mom and dad and stuff like that. It's interesting.
Kaylee
And now that he's older, it's like, you get a couple, man. Like, the stuff you're asking for is expensive. So, like.
Donald Stamper
Right.
Kaylee
Pick your top ones.
Donald Stamper
And you know, this ain't coming from the North Pole.
Kaylee
Yeah. It's coming from Amazon.
Donald Stamper
Exactly.
Kaylee
Ask early, right? Yeah. He asks me every day. He's like, you get on that Christmas list. I'm like, yo, Right? Yes. And you asked for very expensive things. So back up.
Donald Stamper
Give. Give me some space. My. Well, my family. I stopped. We were. I don't remember when I stopped believing in Santa, but it turned into, like, very. We went through a little religious phase where, like, Santa was evil, so probably my brother Joey, who's like six years younger than me, five and a half years younger than me. He probably got a rude. Oh. Like. Oh. Like Santa's not just not real, but he's actually the devil. Like, the devil dresses up like Santa. It wasn't that, but it was that that the way it was described to us. I love my parents, and they're like, my mom is embarrassed about this now, but she said that Santa Claus was just basically like Satan's claws gripping the truth in life out of Christmas.
Kaylee
But that's not where the Santa comes from.
Donald Stamper
I know that's what a sensible person said.
Kaylee
And he was the one who would travel around and leave little presents outside kids doors or windows because, well, one year they all.
Donald Stamper
We almost didn't have a tree because also, like, I don't know a lot about this. I wasn't planning on going here. It's not on my cue card. But there's. There was like. Like a pagan holiday practice that would decorate trees and dance and worship around them on like December 24th or something. So a lot more of our Christmas. This is what I was told back in the day. So a lot more of our Christmas celebrations came from that. And so, you know, the circle I was in at the time was like, that's evil.
Kaylee
But, oh, my God.
Donald Stamper
But we never stopped having a tree and we leveled back out. So it's all good.
Kaylee
I do remember one thing when I was little, because I went to Catholic school when I was little. And I remember, like, especially kindergarten, first grade, we would put our. They would like, whatever the last day was before the holiday break, we would put our shoes in the hallway at school. Like, they would. The teachers would have everybody take their shoes off and put them out in the hallway. And St. Nick would come around and leave presents in everybody's shoes. It was always like those little candy canes, but it was like you'd put them out there. And then we'd go back in classroom and we'd start our lesson plan. And then when the lesson plan was over, we'd open the door and. And there would be, oh, that's so cute. Presents from St. Nick in your shoe. And so like, each grade knew what time they were putting their shoes out and things like that, and everybody just got candy canes. But like, yeah, it was still like, that's a fun one. I remember.
Donald Stamper
Oh, that's really cute.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
When did the elf tradition start? Did you have an elf?
Kaylee
No. First of all, we are child children of the 80s. This is why we are like, we were like, Santa, presents from Santa. There was nothing written about joy.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, Chris. Happiness. I don't know what you're talking about.
Kaylee
You don't enjoy, you give joy.
Donald Stamper
That's right.
Kaylee
That's right.
Donald Stamper
You're a mother. You don't enjoy, you give joy.
Kaylee
I Want to say the elf on the shelf tradition started around probably, like, when Dom was born. Like, okay, he was born in 2009. I want to say it was probably somewhere around. It might have been started then. But I remember it being a big deal, like when he was like two or three wild. I wonder where he still comes to visit. And let me tell you, that Elf on the shelf, that was the best gift ever given to parents right up. Well, at first it was. Then it became a nightmare because you could get your kids to behave for a solid three months.
Donald Stamper
Wow.
Kaylee
Because what I would do is like, sometimes the elf on the shelf, he would come to visit right after Halloween and he would let Dominic know that he was watching for Santa and making sure that he wasn't on the naughty list. So he would just make an appearance.
Donald Stamper
And do they believe he's like Toy Story? Like, he just plays still when everybody's.
Kaylee
Watching, you can't touch him and you have to find him. Like, the whole thing was like that. You had to find the elf on the shelf. So, like, Dom would get up every morning and go around the house to look to see where the elf landed and where he was watching them from. So that was great because the month of November, he only made an appearance or two. And then in December, he was there all the time. But then when the elves started to get mischievous and they had to be in clothing and positions and always doing.
Donald Stamper
Something, always up to no good, I was like filling cereal and stuff.
Kaylee
I was like, yeah, thank God my kid's done.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, that's interesting. I wonder, I wonder, like, who invented it? I'm going to look into that. I'm going to chat GPT that later.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
Okay. So we compiled a list of our top 10 favorite Christmas movies. Right.
Kaylee
Okay. So our Christmas movies.
Donald Stamper
Okay, I gotta just give. I want to give a disclaimer. My last four are a little bit of a hodgepodge, but I threw them in.
Kaylee
The first four we're going to talk about. Are we starting with the number 10 and working up to our number one, our top. Okay.
Donald Stamper
Okay. So your number 10.
Kaylee
My number 10 is a Christmas Story.
Donald Stamper
Mine is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Just is so Christmasy.
Kaylee
It is very Christmassy. I did love. I loved the Frosty the Snowman.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, I, you know, I did so much make my list, but that was usually like the next because I went.
Kaylee
With ones from now. As an adult, I didn't go with my childhood ones. Otherwise I would have gone into all the Christmas ones like Frosty and Rudolph and the Grinch and all that. But I.
Donald Stamper
Me too. I went. I went with ones that like, either I sit down and watch and love, but still today, if, like, on Christmas.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
I would put that on the tv, depending on.
Kaylee
Yes. If the kids were around, I would too. But.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, I would do it with me. And now.
Kaylee
Oh, okay.
Donald Stamper
Like, it gives me.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
Maybe. Maybe something's wrong with me, but. Okay. Well, then you're really gonna like my next one. Number nine for me. We'll go ahead.
Kaylee
Well, I'm curious. I'm just curious if Christmas Story is on your.
Donald Stamper
It's not.
Kaylee
Wow.
Donald Stamper
Is Christmas Story that. I'll shoot your eye out.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
I haven't seen that in so long. Is that one where it's Italian stuck on a pole? Yeah, I gotta watch that this year because when I was a kid, I never like the narration in that movie. Sounded like such an old man. I was like, I don't get this, but I bet now I would freaking love it.
Kaylee
Probably also, it might.

Kaylee
Be very dated. But I still.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, but that's still so fun.
Kaylee
Yeah, I still love it.
Donald Stamper
And movies from that time are like my favorite movies anyway. Is it from the 80s?
Kaylee
From the 80s, yeah.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, like. Like Baby Adventures in Babysitting.
Kaylee
That is the best.
Donald Stamper
So good. And it's so dated. But it's like, there's some good movies back there. Ferris Bueller's Day off, all that.
Kaylee
Don't get me started. Yeah, you know me. Take me back for real. Okay, number nine. Go ahead.
Donald Stamper
What's Yours, Muppet Christmas Carol.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
I'm a child.
Kaylee
I'm learning, obviously. I feel like I've probably seen bits and pieces of that. I don't even know if I've ever seen that whole one. My number nine is the Santa Claus.
Donald Stamper
Okay. With Tim Allen. Allen, huh?
Kaylee
Yes.
Donald Stamper
All right.
Kaylee
And I still love that. I'll still watch that one to this day.
Donald Stamper
I. That one's on my list.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
She's not number nine.
Kaylee
Oh, okay. Okay. Number eight.
Donald Stamper
So number eight for me. I got a little bit controversial. The original Batman with Michael Keaton, I think of. Of as a Christmas movie. They're dressed up, it's snowy, there's Christmas trees. And so it made my list.
Kaylee
Okay. So I also have one that's a controversial one about if it's a Christmas movie or not. However, Batman. I have never heard anybody reference any Batman movie as a Christmas movie.
Donald Stamper
Listen, if there is a listener who agrees with me, even just one, I just need. I need one more person in the universe to be like, oh, yeah, that's a Christmas movie. I think it might even have Christmas songs in the score. I do think maybe.
Kaylee
I don't even know which one you're talking about, to be perfectly honest. I just know Batman is not a Christmas.
Donald Stamper
Do you remember the one that Michelle Feifer was Catwoman?
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
The one before that.
Kaylee
Okay. They've only remade Batman 17 times. Who's Batman this year?
Donald Stamper
The same Val Kilmer. It was the same Batman. Michael Keaton.
Kaylee
Michael. Michael Keaton was a good Batman.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
I haven't seen it.
Donald Stamper
Well, I know what we're doing.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
Did you say your eight? What's your number?
Kaylee
I did not say My Christmas vacation. Oh, the shitter's full.
Donald Stamper
That also is on my list. And when I talk about a real Christmas tree, I always think about that.
Kaylee
Movie like, the cat's dead. So good.
Donald Stamper
Oh, my God, that's so good.
Kaylee
So. So far, we haven't had any that match up.
Donald Stamper
No.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
Okay. Seven might be the one.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
Die Hard.
Kaylee
That's on my list. But it is not number seven. But that is the one I was referencing that I said is controversial because people. Some people are like, it's Christmas. Another, I'm like, it's not. I'm like, no, it's absolutely a Christmas movie.
Donald Stamper
Yeah. They're at their Christmas party, Christmas party.
Kaylee
He's coming into town for Christmas. Like, yeah, that's a Christmas movie. I don't care what anybody says. My number seven is Home Alone, which I remember seeing Home Alone in the Movie theater. My aunts and my grandma took all of us kids to see it. The movie theater was packed. And I just remember laughing so hard as a little kid. I do love, like, when people get hurt. Oh, yeah, as long as it's not bad hurt, but like, when people injure themselves, like, stub a toe, that kind of thing. Oh.
Donald Stamper
Me too.
Kaylee
I don't know what?
Donald Stamper
Search it out. I search out videos of people getting hurt.
Kaylee
I'm telling you, man, don't stub your toe around me.
Donald Stamper
No, I literally, I mean, I would do a spin off video podcast of a weekly to sit down and laugh watching people getting hurt on video.
Kaylee
I mean, obviously America's funniest on video, so we're not like the worst people in the world. But yeah, that is. Everybody gets so mad at me about it. They're like, what's wrong with you? And I'm like, I don't know. My brain. This is how my brain's wired. I guess I'll ask you if you're okay. I just will laugh while I'm asking.
Donald Stamper
Are you care?
Kaylee
Kinda.
Donald Stamper
What's your six?
Kaylee
Wait, what was your seven?
Donald Stamper
Die Hard.
Kaylee
Oh, Die Hard. That's right. Okay. Man, we haven't matched it up once. Okay. Number six for Christmases.
Donald Stamper
I don't think I ever saw that.
Kaylee
Really? With Reese Witherspoon. I don't think it's like a romantic comedy.
Donald Stamper
I do like those, but I honestly, not many of those made my list because I was like, they're not like, standing out by title and memory. I just remembered one that I wish I would have put in there, but my 6 was Santa Claus.
Kaylee
Okay, so we were close. Ish. Okay, well, my five is Die Hard. We're into the top five now.
Donald Stamper
Yep. My five is White Christmas.
Kaylee
Do you know I've never seen that.
Donald Stamper
You know what? I saw it for the first time, like two years ago.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
And I was like, I can't believe I've never watched this before.
Kaylee
You know what else I've never seen?
Donald Stamper
What?
Kaylee
Miracle on 34th Street.
Donald Stamper
I don't think I have either.
Kaylee
Well, we're bad entertainment people. We're awful.
Donald Stamper
We gotta check. Well, I will tell you, White Christmas. First of all, as a dancer, you'll love it.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
Because you know, when they filmed back then, they didn't have all of the shots and angles and ability to like, get to make the dance look really impressive by camera manipulation and stuff like that. And the dancing. And those numbers were really, really good.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
But also, I want you to see it, because I don't remember the actress's name, but one of the. There's two lead females and two lead males. She was a famous dancer and I think she did get some other movies. But when I tell you she was so, so, so thin, like I, I was really shocked when I was watching it. I was like, her waist is about the size of her neck. Leaving Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala. Like giving Ariana Grande is giving Ariana Grande. Yes. Very, very tiny.
Kaylee
They also were just very tiny back then.
Donald Stamper
That's what I'm in general. Yeah. Regardless of that, I mean I, I did find that interesting. Like it made me think about. Because you know, now people are mindful. This is a little sidebar. People are mindful of talking about people's, people's bodies and size and they're also like very intentional about. Like when I was on the cruise ship, one of the female dancers on there, they put her on food, what they called food restriction because she needed to.
Kaylee
That's insane.
Donald Stamper
And she wasn't, she wasn't what, what I would. What, like a normal person might be like, oh, that she's overweight, but she just didn't look the part. And they told her she was not allowed to eat certain things after certain times. It was really wild. And so I thought, okay, this movie is filmed in the White Christmas, probably filmed in the 60s or 50s or something like that. And she was so small. And I just thought, I wonder what that was like then.
Kaylee
Yeah, well there, you know, we've sidetracked here. But you know, in Vegas, like the showgirls and stuff, like they used to have to weigh in every, like before they would perform and if they didn't make weight, they weren't allowed to perform. Like when I was in college, one of the girls, one of my best friends in college, got put on academic probation. Academic probation. We were dance majors, but she got put on academic probation for being overweight.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, it's wild.
Kaylee
Isn't that insane?
Donald Stamper
Uh huh. It really is.
Kaylee
And you're just, you're talking about, you know, 25 years ago, which. God, like I'm like in my mind, I'm like, you're talking about 10 years ago. No, it was 25 years ago, but still.
Donald Stamper
Well, what was. Really? Yeah, it's why, I mean, it's crazy.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
But White Christmas is also cool because I, it was so old. It was actually, I didn't know that it was going to be like about a time of war and it was just really good. You should have to watch that one. Yeah, we should have a couple. We should sneak in some Christmas movie nights.
Kaylee
I got the big couch now.
Donald Stamper
Exactly.
Kaylee
Okay. Number four, Elf.
Donald Stamper
Mine is It's a Wonderful Life. Is that on your list?
Kaylee
No, I haven't seen it.
Donald Stamper
Okay. So did you just play along every time someone pretends an angel gets their wings?
Kaylee
I mean, I know that because you see enough of like.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
Movie like lines and stuff like that. So I know that it's from that. But I've never seen it.
Donald Stamper
I put it for. I honestly like this list is a pretty. I should have penciled them all in. Not inked. But the It's a Wonderful Life is just such a classic. And it is a really.
Kaylee
But do you watch it every year?
Donald Stamper
No.
Kaylee
Okay, so that's. So when you said our top movies.
Donald Stamper
Like I don't watch any movie every year though.
Kaylee
Oh. First of all, all top 10 of these. I watch these every year.
Donald Stamper
Oh really?
Kaylee
Yes. Well, there's not one on here that I wouldn't or haven't already watched.
Donald Stamper
And I would. But I don't. I don't.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
Did you say you're four?
Kaylee
Yeah. Elf.
Donald Stamper
Elf.
Toyota Announcer
Coming, papa.
Donald Stamper
Uhuh. Oh, don't get me started. Elf. Well, you'll see.
Kaylee
Is elf on your list?
Donald Stamper
It's on my list.
Kaylee
Okay. Thank God.
Donald Stamper
What's your number three? The holiday that earlier when I said I just thought of one I didn't put on here that I wish I did. It was the holiday. It's not on my list, but I definitely would kick off Muppet Christmas. Carolina. There's a few holiday was like you.
Kaylee
A Batman on there. Over on the holiday.
Donald Stamper
A Batman is a good Christmas movie. And I know there's at least one person listening who agrees with me.
Kaylee
Here's. Here's what I will say. Say I love like I really like Cameron Diaz in general. I don't think her acting was anything phenomenal in that movie. But Kate Winslet, Jack Black and Jude Law are so good.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
That it helps carry her a little bit more. She's still fun.
Donald Stamper
And when the movie came out, she was.
Kaylee
She was big.
Donald Stamper
Huge. All of them.
Kaylee
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. But I just love that one so much. Again, it's a heartfelt one that you're like. Oh yeah. Sometimes, you know, you need to. To get away. And I would. By the way, I would totally be Cameron Diaz though. I would be the girl who has a complete meltdown. I'm gonna be by myself and I'm gonna go away and do something crazy. And I'd be there for 24 hours.
Donald Stamper
You still might be.
Kaylee
And pack my suitcase and be like, I'm going home.
Donald Stamper
Yes.
Kaylee
And I mean, unless I meet a Jude Law to keep me around, I would be on that plane right back home.
Donald Stamper
My three was Christmas vacation.
Kaylee
I was gonna say, what's your number three?
Donald Stamper
Christmas vacation. I do think it's so funny. Yeah, it's so, like. Like, real. Because they're like. Because so many, like, Christmas movies are, like, happy, Picture Perfect. And it was just, like, chaos. It's hilarious. It's like a real story.
Kaylee
Number two, I know this one isn't on your list, but I love it. Daddy's Home too. The second one. No, with Mark Wahlberg.
Donald Stamper
I. I'm trying to think if I've seen that one. I think I have.
Kaylee
Oh, my gosh. It's hilarious. And that's why I'm saying, like, I. I didn't go for necessarily just, like, classics. I went for the ones that Dom and I watch every year. There. We love Daddy's Home. We quote lines from it.
Donald Stamper
It's.
Kaylee
Yeah, I need mom, you're pretty. Can we go to ihop? The little girl's drunk. It's so good.
Donald Stamper
It's really good.
Kaylee
It is so good. I love that one. What's your number two?
Donald Stamper
Home Alone.
Kaylee
Oh, okay.
Donald Stamper
I just love, like, I Home Alone, for some reason will always. And I think it's timeless. Even though as a kid it's so fun, it's also just so fun as an adult. And the. The, again, the soundtrack is so good. I just.
Kaylee
I actually like Home Alone 2. Also. Lost in New York, huh? Not as much as Home Alone, but both of them are always going to be classics.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, I. I don't. I've seen that, but it's been so long. So what was the. What's your number one?
Kaylee
Bad Mom's Christmas.
Donald Stamper
Oh, yeah, of course. Mine is Elf.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
When I. I tell you, I. I forget where I was traveling. It wasn't. Oh, it might. I think it was going to Puerto Rico last year. I was on the plane, popped a gummy, put in elf, was eating my snacks, and I had a time. Honey, we. I was laughing so loud, like, in. On the plane, I was like, this is a good time. It is such a good Christmas movie.
Kaylee
It is a really good one.
Donald Stamper
If you haven't seen it with a gummy, I highly recommend.
Kaylee
Okay, that might need to be on my list. List of things to do. But that's how I also feel about Mad Mom's Christmas and, like, what? They're all so good in it, and it's just so funny.
Donald Stamper
Like, huh.
Kaylee
She's like a strip club on Christmas with my mother. Let's go slap some wieners.
Donald Stamper
Oh, my God. I love.
Kaylee
Or like, when was his name Strips.
Donald Stamper
Yes. Or when. When she has to.
Kaylee
When she has to wax him. For free. That movie cracks me up.
Donald Stamper
It's so good.
Kaylee
It's so good. I might watch that tonight. You want something funny to laugh at with a gummy on your plane ride to Puerto Rico?
Donald Stamper
Yes. Always.
Kaylee
Kevin Hart's new special.
Donald Stamper
Okay.
Kaylee
Acting my age. I put it on when Dom and I were flying to Ohio for Thanksgiving. And I love Kevin Hart, so I always laugh at his stuff, but I was laughing so hard and I didn't even take gummy. And I would, like, I'm crying on the plane, but I hit play on it before we ever even took off. So people are getting on the plane. Like, people are boarding. And I'm sitting in first class just hysterically laughing. And Dom's like, mom. I'm like, it's hilarious. I don't know what you want me to tell you.
Donald Stamper
Oh, that's exciting. Good.
Kaylee
So that's a good one.
Donald Stamper
Yeah. Listed things. And he's so funny.
Kaylee
He's so funny.
Donald Stamper
And it. It's like you're almost afraid to watch it because some people have a. Comedians have a huge, like. Like successful blockbuster stand up. And he was so fun. I mean, we joked about him through 80 day obsession the whole time. And so it's like you're afraid to watch the new ones.
Kaylee
I've watched all of his, and I think because he always makes his stuff about his own personal life.
Donald Stamper
It's always good.
Kaylee
It's always good. There's been one or two where I was like, oh, that wasn't as good as, like, his younger ones when he was on the come up. Like, when he was on the come up because he still had so many struggles and that kind of thing. But this one was very good. Yeah, I liked it. I was like, oh, I relate.
Donald Stamper
I'm excited to see it.
Kaylee
Yes, it's good. Watch it and then we'll talk.
Donald Stamper
All right.
Kaylee
Okay. What else we got?
Donald Stamper
So I thought one more little fun thing.
Kaylee
Okay. Why are you laughing at yourself?
Donald Stamper
Because I don't know if it'll be fun or not, but we're about to find out.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
You know the.
Kaylee
We should have done this on gummies.
Donald Stamper

The Christmas songs, okay, they obviously like. We all hear them in the stores, on the radio. You know how even on Instagram, like if you use a reel with a non Christmas Christmas song, you're like, is it gonna get any traction? Because Christmas music dominates. Yes. During this season. So we. Well, you pulled up the list. What was it? The top. Like just a popular play.
Kaylee
It was a very popular playlist that I pulled up.
Donald Stamper
And these are all songs that. That I know and that you.
Kaylee
Yes.
Donald Stamper
Everyone listening probably will know. So maybe let's say like how we feel about it. It love it, hate it or somewhere in between. And then see if you can quote the chorus or a line. Like how much of it you know. The. Do you want to start?
Kaylee
You want. You start and that. Like we'll go back and forth.
Donald Stamper
Okay, let's start with the most obvious. All I want for Christmas is you.
Kaylee
All I want for Christmas is you. That's all I could say. I probably. I could sing along with the song, but I can't probably. Also, we shouldn't. I should never sing. Not even a little bit.
Donald Stamper
This is why we finish the podcast with it. We wanted to get. We wanted you guys to listen.
Kaylee
Tune out.
Donald Stamper
Yeah. Just kidding. You love it. I mean, it's.
Kaylee
I love it.
Donald Stamper
It's. It's arguably one of the.
Kaylee
It's arguably one of the most popular songs, I would say. I like it. Yeah. Yeah. Like, definitely one here.
Donald Stamper
I don't think I play it, but I don't hate it when I hear it because it is like, Christmas spirit, but it's so everywhere.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
Honestly, I'm not like, oh, it's time to listen to Mariah Carey.
Kaylee
I. I don't think I have any Christmas song that I want. Like, I'm like, oh, my God, I have to hear that. Like, Dom is usually like, let's put on Christmas music. And I'll just hit a playlist and great. I'll sing along. But, like, there's no part of me ever that needs to hear a Christmas song. A Christmas song. We have an acquaintance that'll literally put on Christmas music in July if she's in a bad mood and I'm like, what?
Donald Stamper
Interesting.
Kaylee
I'll tell you who later.
Donald Stamper
But, yeah, well, I guess whatever works. Yeah. That would have the opposite effect on me.
Kaylee
No. Oh, my God.
Donald Stamper
Like, you want me to go murder somebody? Why? It's July. Why do I have to listen to this right now? Actually, the only one I do. Little shameless plug. I have a Christmas song. It's not on this list, but you should go listen to it. It's called Santa. If you're listening. And if you. You, like, search Donald Stamper with that, it'll come up on streaming platforms. But that one, because it makes me feel good, because I wrote it and it reminds me of, like, family and stuff I might listen to at any point if I want to lift my spirits. But otherwise, you keep your Christmas music and you save it for. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Kaylee
I'm like, you played on Christmas Day.
Donald Stamper
Exactly.
Kaylee
Okay, okay. Last Christmas, I.
Donald Stamper
How I feel about it is I'm neutral, I don't really care, but I don't dislike it. I wouldn't change the station, but I wouldn't be like, oh, yeah, this is my Christmas jam and it's last Christmas I gave you my heart and the very next day you gave it away.
Kaylee
This year to save me from tears.
Donald Stamper
Oh, yeah. I wouldn't have known that one. Give it to someone special. See? Yeah.
Kaylee
When I resonate with the fucking song, I guess. I guess I like it more.
Donald Stamper
Wow. I'm not crying.
Kaylee
Seriously.
Donald Stamper
Okay.
Kaylee
Okay. How about Rocking around the Christmas Tree?
Donald Stamper
I love that one.
Kaylee
I guess you were.
Donald Stamper
You know the part I'm talking about?
Kaylee
No.
Donald Stamper
Is that. Is that the song?
Kaylee
The Christmas Tree at the Christmas party. Huh?
Donald Stamper
Everyone's dancing, dancing merrily. And then something, something, something, Stop.
Kaylee
Yeah, yeah, yeah. You will get that sentimental feeling when you hear. Okay, singing. Let's. I wish I could sing.
Donald Stamper
The. So I'm talking about. I feel like in. Speaking of Home Alone, when he put the, like, cardboard cutouts on. On the train and he's making them dance. It's to that song.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
I love that song. Okay.
Kaylee
I would say. I like. Like it, obviously.
Donald Stamper
Santa baby.
Kaylee
I. I like it. Santa baby, hurry down the chimney tonight.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
Depends on who's Santa.
Donald Stamper
That's right. Who's Chimney. So stupid. Okay.
Kaylee
White christmas.
Donald Stamper
Oh, yeah. I'm. Dreaming.
Kaylee
I have a bass voice.
Donald Stamper
Christmas.
Kaylee
I love the ones just like the ones. Yes, I have one. I don't know if you put it on your list or not. Feliz Navidad.
Donald Stamper
Do you know the next part? Feliz Navidad.
Kaylee
Feliz Navidad. Prespero Agno y felizidad. Yeah. Come on. Where's your. You're Spanish.
Donald Stamper
That's right.
Kaylee
That's all I got, though. Okay.
Donald Stamper
Oh, wait, I got one for you.
Kaylee
Okay. Crying.
Donald Stamper
Because Santa Claus is coming to town.
Kaylee
I don't hate it. I would say I'm neutral on it.
Donald Stamper
Do you know where?
Kaylee
Probably if I heard it, I could sing along, but I don't know if I could pull it out of my.
Donald Stamper
Oh, is that the. You better watch out. You better not cry. You better not pout. I'm telling you.
Kaylee
Why Santa Claus? It depends on which version you're talking about.
Donald Stamper
Santa Claus is coming to town. Okay.
Kaylee
Okay. Yes. Okay. Maybe we like it. Okay. Run, Rudolph, Run.
Donald Stamper
Rudolph. I don't know the words. After Run, Run, Rudolph. That's all I got.
Kaylee
Song.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
Yeah. I don't know.
Donald Stamper
And in my mind it slips into Go, Go, Johnny, go, go. I'm like, wait, that's not.
Kaylee
The same song.
Donald Stamper
Okay, I got one for you. Okay. The. Which one? Oh.
Kaylee
Deck the halls with bells of holly.
Donald Stamper
Is it bell? I think it's bows.
Kaylee
What is it?
Donald Stamper
Bows?
Kaylee
Boughs. What's a bow?
Donald Stamper
Deck the halls with bows. I don't know. That's what I was going to ask you. About, But I'm pretty sure it's, like, hanging over the top of Holly.
Kaylee
Google it.
Donald Stamper
My phone's inside, but we'll check anyways. Couldn't let Christmas sneak by without us.
Kaylee
I don't think I've ever known exactly. I just thought. Okay.
Donald Stamper
But I always hear bowels when I sing it.
Kaylee
It sounds like you're saying bowels as in, like, bowel movements.
Donald Stamper
Right.
Kaylee
Deck. Not deck the balls. Okay. It is. B O U G H S. Bowels. What the is about?
Donald Stamper
That's a good question. Things they don't teach you.
Commercial Voiceover
Yeah.
Kaylee
They just make you sing it and you're like, I don't know. That's why you don't know what the word is. Like, that's why you don't know what they're saying. Because who knows what the heck that is? It's. Okay. What about have yourself a Merry Little Christmas?
Donald Stamper
Have yourself a merry little Christmas. That's a sweet. That's a sweet one. I don't. I. I feel, like, very relaxed. You know, it's like if you're at a. If you're holding a candlelight or something like that.
Kaylee
Okay.
Donald Stamper
All right.
Kaylee
We only have a few more.
Donald Stamper
It's the most wonderful time of the year. Do you know the line after that? It's the most wonderful time of the year. I don't neither. It's like, there'll be something sometimes here. Glad that's really left its mark on our heart.
Kaylee
Great.
Donald Stamper
A couple of Christmas spirits over here.
Kaylee
Scrooge. What about. It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas.
Donald Stamper
I like that one. It's beginning to Look a lot like Christmas everywhere you go. But the next line.
Kaylee
Take a look at the 5 and 10. Something and something again. I don't know.
Donald Stamper
5, 10, 6, 7. Anyway.
Kaylee
Oh, I have one that we didn't put on this list that I absolutely love. It's nsync. Oh, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
Donald Stamper
That actually might be one of my favorites.
Kaylee
And honestly, if that one came on in the middle of July, I'd probably still sing it. And I love that music video. They're handing out, like, Christmas presents to little kids and all that. That one's a feel good.
Donald Stamper
That's so good.
Kaylee
Come on, boys. We were really looking forward to that reunion tour.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
And I don't know which one of you doesn't have your together, but why are you letting the Backstreet Boys do it all?
Donald Stamper
Exactly.
Kaylee
Give us the gift.
Donald Stamper
We. Because I was at nsyn, Stan.
Kaylee
I was just gonna say. Let me tell You. You got fans out here. That Battle and Sync or Backstreet Boys and NSync left us. NSync fans hanging because Backstreet Boys dominated with their Vegas show.
Donald Stamper
Exactly.
Kaylee
And we all thought that they were gonna reunite and give us. I would have paid all my dollars.
Donald Stamper
Right.
Kaylee
I would have sold every feet pick that it took to be first front and center.
Donald Stamper
I would have loved. I would love for them to get back together, but instead, we got. Wait, what. What are they called? I'm 98 degrees. 98 degrees.
Kaylee
Just a few more rehearsal, boys.
Donald Stamper
Yeah, you guys can get it. You're not there yet, but Backstreet Boys.
Kaylee
I went to that concert, and they were good. They were really good.
Donald Stamper
I bet.
Kaylee
But. But I don't know.
Donald Stamper
There's venue alone, too. Like, I probably made it so special. The venue. The.
Kaylee
Oh, yeah. The venue is super cool. I mean, I tripped out a little bit because. Yeah, no, I won't. I need to sit on the floor next time. Yeah, but we bought our tickets, like, a week before the concert, so it was like we got what was left.
Donald Stamper
Right. But.
Kaylee
Yeah.
Donald Stamper
Well, this has been fun. Traveling down memory Christmas lane and also realizing that we're not exactly on the same page about movies. Sometimes I like to watch Muppets.
Kaylee
And also. You don't watch any of them.
Donald Stamper
I do, but I don't watch anything every year.
Kaylee
That's insane.
Donald Stamper
She's busy.
Kaylee
No, you're not.
Donald Stamper
That's true. Busy watching housewives. Housewives.
Kaylee
I know. Okay, we want to know, though. Well, okay, look at this middle camera and look at the sun on you. You're gonna be a goat.
Donald Stamper
Why is it. Sorry, guys, we're gonna save these. If you're watching on YouTube, it's not the Holy Spirit. Don't worry.
Kaylee
We're still a one and two man crew here, so we need to black out the windows. But we want to know favorite songs. If I hit my face on this microphone. More time. No, I've, like, literally had butted it. Favorite Christmas songs. What are your top Christmas movies? Do you have any traditions? And then obviously tune in next week. We're going into the new year. We're going into 2026. We're going to talk resolutions. Do you make them? What are they? What are the goals? Like, let's get into it. Let's set some mindset things. And. Yeah, I think we're going to talk about our next challenge that we're gonna do together.
Donald Stamper
Yeah.
Kaylee
The question is, is when you come film for the week of New Year's Huh? Will there be Christmas decor back here? Because I don't know if I can have a podcast that's launching the week of New Year and with Christmas decor. Christmas decor up.
Donald Stamper
No, we gotta get rid of it.
Kaylee
That's got to go. So it was up for two weeks?
Donald Stamper
Yes.
Kaylee
Three.
Donald Stamper
It works.
Kaylee
It worked.
Donald Stamper

Podcast: Everything’s Perfect
Hosts: Autumn Calabrese & Donald Stamper
Date: December 23, 2025
Episode: Holiday Special
In this festive Holiday Special, Autumn and Donald (joined by guest/co-host Kaylee) take a deep dive into their Christmas and holiday experiences, mixing nostalgia and real talk about changing family traditions, handling the holiday blues, navigating solo holidays, food, movies, and the quirks of Christmas pop culture. The episode is laced with humor, honesty, and the duo’s signature candidness, providing plenty of laughs, a hint of pathos, and plenty of “messy middle” moments that fans love.
Year in Review:
Kaylee is blunt about how challenging the year was:
"No, fuck this year. That's how I feel. I'm done with this year. I say that every. That's been, like, every year for, like, the last four years. And I'm like, come on, 20, 20. One of these years got to be my year." (02:50, Kaylee)
Coping Solo During Holidays:
Kaylee opens up about choosing not to travel for Christmas:
"I’m not doing anything. And honestly, I will say it, because I’m not the only one…I know it can be very, like, lonely and sad." (04:32, Kaylee)
With her son Dom visiting his father, she plans quietly taking down decor and “making Christmas disappear.”
Donald supports her with humor and shared experiences — he’s spending Christmas in Puerto Rico:
"This is the first island Christmas I’ll ever have. I’m really excited. Their Christmas spirit is very different than how I grew up." (06:01, Donald)
"If you sit at home by yourself, you're always going to be by yourself…you have to go do things." (07:12, Kaylee)
She considers going to Disneyland alone for holiday cheer.
Christmas Eve vs. Christmas Day:
For Kaylee’s Italian-American family, Christmas Eve was the big deal, with "Feast of the Seven Fishes."
"Christmas Eve was always at my grandma’s house…so everything, like shrimp appetizers to linguine pasta with squid in it and calamari. My Grandpa would do an eel...seven different fish." (09:18, Kaylee)
Christmas Day Dinners & Traditions:
Both recall lasagna, ham, and sometimes steak, with pasta more prominent for Christmas than Thanksgiving.
New Traditions:
Donald mentions wanting to make duck or goose one year and considers the classic "Chinese food for Christmas" as in Bad Moms Christmas (12:06 - 12:24).
“I think part of the fun is...what is this? And I have another one…there was usually, like, one bigger present that wasn’t wrapped under the tree. And then all his other presents were wrapped. Also, my kid is smart…and was like, mom, this handwriting looks like yours. And I was like, you’re seven. Shut up.” (25:10, Kaylee)
Unique Treats:
Donald fondly remembers homemade popcorn balls (13:05), and Kaylee talks about pizzelles and frosted Italian cookies, mainstays in her family (13:54 - 15:02).
Neighborhood Traditions:
The warmth of community and visiting family homes where these treats were always available.
Decor Discussion:
Both share stories about colored and clear lights, making ornaments as kids, popcorn garlands, and tinsel (16:47, 17:11).
Tree Topper Struggles:
Debating between angels, bows, and stars, with input on practicality and family tradition:
“That's actually why I like the bow. The bow doesn't go on...It's a twist tie that wraps around it so you're not trying to...Everything else star, all those things, they don't stay on top.” (18:53, Kaylee)
When the Magic Ended:
Kaylee, as the youngest with older siblings, learned Santa wasn’t real very early:
“I was probably only four, five...my dad and my sister...talking about Santa not being real because they thought I was asleep...I flipped over and I was like, Santa’s not real!” (21:00, Kaylee)
Funny, Painful Reveals:
They recount kids discovering hidden Easter baskets, leading to a domino-effect of lost magical figures.
“And then it hit him like dominoes. And they were like, wait, does that mean Santa’s not real? And we’re like, well…well, okay. Well, I guess your childhood just ended.” (23:24, Kaylee)
Parenting Tactics:
Discussion about how to differentiate gifts “from Santa” (handwriting, wrapping paper, etc.) and the existential moment when kids figure it out (25:26).
Religious Overcorrection:
Donald recalls a time when his family saw Santa as a “devilish” distraction:
“My mom is embarrassed about this now, but she said that Santa Claus was just basically like Satan’s claws gripping the truth in life out of Christmas.” (27:11, Donald)
Catholic School Memories:
Putting shoes out for St. Nick to fill during school (27:55, Kaylee).
Elf on the Shelf:
The modern tradition’s timeline, its initial joy and eventual parental fatigue:
“At first it was...the best gift ever given to parents…Then it became a nightmare because you could get your kids to behave for a solid three months.” (29:41, Kaylee)
“I would have paid all my dollars…I would have sold every feet pick that it took to be first front and center.” (60:49, Kaylee, on her devotion to seeing an NSYNC reunion over Backstreet Boys)
Debating Holiday Hits:
The duo react to the biggest Christmas playlist staples:
Personal Song Shoutout:
Donald briefly plugs his own original holiday single:
“I have a Christmas song…it’s called ‘Santa, If You’re Listening’…because I wrote it and it reminds me of family and stuff I might listen to at any point if I want to lift my spirits.” (52:47, Donald)
NSYNC & Nostalgia:
Mutual love for NSYNC’s “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” (59:47) and laments that Backstreet Boys reunited before NSYNC did.
Reassurance for Solo Listeners:
“If you are alone this holiday season, you’re never alone. You are always here with us.” (63:40, Kaylee)
Encouragement to Find Your Own Fun:
Donald: “Make a duck. Never done it.” (63:55), Kaylee: “Duck, duck, goose.” (63:58)
Looking Ahead:
Teasing next episode about New Year’s resolutions and the next “challenge.”
Light-hearted, honest, occasionally salty, always affectionate. Autumn and Donald bring real-life messiness, a healthy dose of humor, warm nostalgia, and encouragement to make the holidays your own, perfect—or not.
Everything’s Perfect proves that “perfect” is overrated—especially during the holidays.
