From the voice of the martyrs Extreme devotion, Extreme disappointment. Eastern Europe A Famous Evangelist Day 183 we must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the One who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. John, chapter nine, verse four. The teenager never came back. The famous evangelist spoke from behind prison bars. A powerful preacher known throughout Eastern Europe, he was telling how he could not find peace. This man had led thousands to Christ, so the other Christian prisoners could not understand his feeling of failure. I had preached at an evangelistic meeting, he explained. I had poured out my heart, and at the end, 200 people had come forward to accept Christ. I was thrilled, but I was also exhausted. As I was leaving, one young man came to me. Pastor, I need to talk to you, he said. I told him that I was too tired and could he maybe come back in the morning. He never came back. The communists arrested me later that evening. I was interrogated nonstop, day and night for five days. I answered all of their questions. I answered because I feared the tortures, the beatings I would receive if I did not answer. Out of fear of the communists. I could speak for five days and nights without stopping out of love toward God. However, I could not speak five minutes more to that teenaged boy looking for the way of life. How will I stand before God and account for bringing only 200 to Christ that day when it could have been 201? We may choose to overlook opportunities that God puts before us, to share Christ with others, thinking that we'll get to it later or that we'll have a better time. But we may never get another chance. When we choose to ignore a divinely given opportunity, we, like the evangelist, may find the moment was fleeting, a once in a lifetime gift. Tragically, it may be the only time a person asks to hear about God's gift of eternal life through His Son, Jesus in heaven. God may ask you, why did you not share the gospel with someone when you had the opportunity to do so? How would you answer? Thanks for listening. Introduction
In Episode Day 183 titled "Extreme Disappointment," hosted by The Voice of The Martyrs, listeners are taken through a poignant narrative that explores the profound emotions of failure and missed opportunities in the life of a devoted evangelist. This episode delves deep into the struggles faced by those who dedicate their lives to spreading their faith, highlighting the human vulnerabilities that accompany such unwavering commitment.
The Story of the Evangelist
The episode centers around a renowned evangelist from Eastern Europe, a region historically marked by religious persecution under communist regimes. Described as a powerful preacher who had led thousands to Christ, the evangelist shares a deeply personal and harrowing experience that led to his imprisonment.
At the outset ([00:00]), the evangelist recounts an evangelistic meeting where his passion and fervor resulted in 200 individuals accepting Christ—a moment of triumph that was unfortunately overshadowed by exhaustion. As he was departing from the meeting, a young man approached him with a plea:
"Pastor, I need to talk to you," ([00:00]).
Feeling too weary to engage, the evangelist asked the young man to return the following morning. Tragically, the young man never returned, an event that haunts the evangelist to this day. That very evening, he was arrested by communist authorities, leading to five days of relentless interrogation. Despite fearing torture and beatings, he chose to answer all their questions out of fear for his own safety.
Emotions and Reflections
Throughout his imprisonment, the evangelist reflects on a critical moment of personal failure—the opportunity to save just one more soul. He articulates a profound sense of disappointment in himself:
"How will I stand before God and account for bringing only 200 to Christ that day when it could have been 201?" ([00:00]).
This rhetorical question underscores the weight of missed opportunities and the relentless internal struggle between duty and personal limitations.
Insights and Lessons
The narrative serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of burnout and the importance of seizing divine opportunities without delay. The evangelist emphasizes that moments to share one's faith can be fleeting, and procrastination or exhaustion can lead to irrevocable losses. He challenges listeners to introspect:
"We may choose to overlook opportunities that God puts before us, to share Christ with others, thinking that we'll get to it later or that we'll have a better time. But we may never get another chance." ([00:00]).
This sentiment resonates with anyone committed to a purposeful life, highlighting the eternal significance of seemingly small actions.
Conclusion
As the episode draws to a close, the evangelist poses a reflective question to the audience:
"God may ask you, why did you not share the gospel with someone when you had the opportunity to do so? How would you answer?" ([00:00]).
This invitation to self-examination encourages listeners to evaluate their commitment and responsiveness to opportunities for faith-sharing. The episode underscores the delicate balance between devotion and the practical execution of one's mission, reminding us that true commitment often requires overcoming personal limitations to fulfill a greater purpose.
