Extreme Missionaries Romania Pastor Richard Wurmbrand Day 43 Preach the word of God. Be prepared whether the time is favorable or not. 2 Timothy chapter 4, verse 2 as the train began to pull out of the station, the Christians standing on the platform unbuttoned their coats and pulled out hundreds of gospel tracts. Quickly they tossed the tracks, handfuls at a time, through the open train windows to the Russian troops. Inside, the Russian soldiers, some of them no more than 16 years old, laughed and whistled, especially at the attractive young women throwing things through the window. They grabbed at the tracks, wondering what was being thrown into an army train. When the political officer boarded the car, the soldiers quickly stuffed the tracks in their pockets. Soon enough, they would read the strange booklet and find out more about this king. Back on the train platform, the Christians gathered, laughing nervously. When police officers took one aside, the believer opened his coat willingly because there was nothing inside. All the tracks he had brought to the Romanian train station were now on the train headed to the heart of Communist Russia. The train car evangelism was just one of the methods that Richard Wurmbrand taught the youth of his church to reach Russians for Christ. These allies were stealing all of his country's wealth and murdering many of its people. Yet Richard welcomed the soldiers. In each soldier, he saw a mission field and sought a chance to harvest a soul. A mission is not so much a place as it is an attitude, one's approach toward life. A missionary is simply someone who embodies this determination and single focus and expresses it in everyday living. Richard Wurmbrand was a man on mission, and his fervor spread through the ranks of young people who recognized his purposefulness. In that sense, we are all missionaries, ambassadors for Christ wherever we are serving. Being on mission means you are always on the alert for new opportunities to further God's kingdom at the water coolers, at work, at the grocery store, on the commuter train or bus, at school. The everyday world is your mission field when you are determined to further God's kingdom.

Speaker B kickstarts the discussion by narrating a poignant incident that encapsulates Wurmbrand’s fearless strategy in evangelism:
"As the train began to pull out of the station, the Christians standing on the platform unbuttoned their coats and pulled out hundreds of gospel tracts. Quickly they tossed the tracts, handfuls at a time, through the open train windows to the Russian troops." (00:06)
This vivid description highlights the ingenious and daring methods Wurmbrand taught to his followers. The act of distributing gospel tracts to Russian soldiers, some barely sixteen, exemplifies the lengths to which these missionaries would go to share their faith. The narrative underscores the human element of evangelism—engaging with individuals in unexpected settings, like an army train, to plant seeds of belief.
The episode emphasizes that being a missionary transcends geographical boundaries; it's fundamentally an attitude. Wurmbrand epitomized this philosophy:
"A mission is not so much a place as it is an attitude, one's approach toward life." (00:40)
This perspective democratizes missionary work, suggesting that anyone, regardless of their location or occupation, can embody the missionary spirit. Whether at the water cooler, in the workplace, or during daily commutes, opportunities abound to further God's kingdom. Wurmbrand’s approach inspires listeners to view their everyday environments as fertile mission fields.
Wurmbrand's relentless pursuit of souls is portrayed as both strategic and compassionate. By welcoming even persecutors, he saw every individual as a potential mission field:
"Yet Richard welcomed the soldiers. In each soldier, he saw a mission field and sought a chance to harvest a soul." (01:15)
This inclusive approach not only broadened his reach but also fostered a sense of hope and purpose among his followers. It reflects a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of personal engagement and the importance of seeing beyond immediate circumstances to the potential within each person.
The episode concludes by reinforcing the idea that missionary work is accessible to everyone. It calls on listeners to adopt a missionary mindset in their daily lives, recognizing that every interaction holds the potential for evangelism:
"The everyday world is your mission field when you are determined to further God's kingdom." (02:20)
By embodying determination and purposefulness, individuals can become ambassadors for Christ, mirroring Wurmbrand’s extraordinary devotion in their everyday actions.
