From the voice of the martyrs. Extreme devotion, Extreme wisdom. Israel Stephen Day 55 if you need wisdom, ask our generous God and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. James 1:5 witnesses falsely testified against him. We heard him blaspheme Moses and even God. Others lied, saying, this man is always speaking against the holy temple and against the law of Moses. We have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy the temple and change the customs Moses handed down to us. The chief priests of the High Council turned to the defendant. Are these accusations true? Calmly, Stephen rose and his gentle tone changed. Name one prophet your ancestors didn't persecute. They even killed the ones who predicted the coming of the righteous one, the Messiah whom you betrayed and murdered. You deliberately disobeyed God's law, even though you received it from the hands of angels. Screams and curses broke out in response, but Stephen was undeterred. He looked up into heaven and declared, look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man, standing in the place of honor at God's right hand. They blocked their ears with their hands, rushed him and dragged him outside of the city. One of the Pharisees, named Saul, quietly collected the robes of the others so that Stephen's blood wouldn't stain them.
