From the voice of the martyrs Extreme devotion, extreme confidence Central asia Shokan Day 86 we are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. 2 Corinthians, chapter 3, verse 4. Shokan didn't understand why a man he was working for prayed in the name of God the Father. His own father wasn't a good person. Why would you call God father? In Shokan's understanding of Islam, God was someone who punished you when you did wrong. So when he asked the man why he prayed like that, he was surprised by his answer. The two men fell into lengthy discussions about life and religion, and months later, Shokan committed his life to Christ. On the day Shokan came to faith in Christ, he saw some Muslims leaving a mosque as he was walking home. Confidently approaching the mosque, he began to address a group of about a hundred Muslims. I am coming here to talk to you about Jesus, he told them. Jesus the son died for your sins. And then he rose and if you go to the mosque, you cannot get saved. When the secret police called Shokan a few days later, he shared the Gospel with them too. They told him he had to stop sharing about Jesus, but Shokan replied that he couldn't stop. Finally, the police told him he could share the Gospel, but only inside his own house. Shokan got creative. Since his house was the only one in the village with electricity. He bought an antenna to pick up the national soccer team's matches on tv. He then invited his neighbors to watch the games at his house and took the opportunity to tell them about Christ. Shokan was so confident in his faith that on the day he placed his trust in the Lord, he shared the Gospel with a group of Muslims leaving a mosque. In many restricted nations, Christians are not persecuted because they believe in Jesus Christ, but because they tell others about him. In Shokan's case, the secret police visited him a few days later and told him to stop witnessing. Evangelism produces persecution and opposition, which often produce stronger witnesses for Christ. Ask the Lord to give you an opportunity to boldly and confidently share the good news of Jesus Christ with someone today.

The episode opens with a reference to 2 Corinthians 3:4, emphasizing the foundation of confidence rooted in trust in God through Christ. Shokan, a man from Central Asia, initially struggled to comprehend the Christian concept of God as a loving Father. Coming from an Islamic background where God is perceived primarily as a punisher, Shokan was perplexed by his employer's Christian prayers in the name of God the Father.

This curiosity led Shokan to engage in lengthy discussions about life and religion with his Christian employer, ultimately leading to his conversion to Christianity months later.
Shokan's journey to faith was marked by critical moments that challenged his preconceived notions. Upon committing his life to Christ, he experienced a transformative assurance that empowered him to share his newfound faith openly.
