On 2 March 2020, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) opened up a legal case against Beloftebos, a wedding venue in the Western Cape, in the Cape High Court (Equality Court). The SAHRC accuses the owners of Beloftebos of unfair discrimination for refusing – on grounds of their Scriptural conviction that marriage is between a man and a woman – to host, participate in, and celebrate same-sex weddings. The case will have major ramifications not only for Beloftebos but for the freedom of all South Africans not to be forced to do work that violates their sincerely held convictions and beliefs, whatever those may be.
