Jacob's journey to Bethel began in one of the darkest seasons of his life. Running from his past, uncertain of his future, and alone in the wilderness, he encountered the presence of God in a place he least expected. There, God revealed His covenant, promised His faithfulness, and Jacob declared, "Surely the LORD is in this place."

But God's desire was never for Jacob to merely remember a sacred place—it was to know the God who met him there.

Years later, God called Jacob back to Bethel. Before returning, Jacob instructed his household to put away their idols, purify themselves, and prepare their hearts for worship. This time, Jacob didn't simply revisit the place of his encounter; he built an altar and called it El Bethel—"The God of Bethel." His relationship had matured from revering a location to worshiping the God who had faithfully been with him every step of the journey.
