It's just my narwhals. And I'm so happy because I got now a second pair. I have two pairs of narwhals. I'm so excited. I'm also.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Your first narwhal has a friend now.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
My first narwhal has a friend now. We need to get Brett a narwhal pair. And then we have magic. Oh, my gosh. I'm.

Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Hi guys.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Thank you so much. And also thank you so much for being, I'll call it a good sport as we've been deep diving and answering, not answering our questions throughout. Like, it's been so fun to get your extra insights like especially about Kingfisher with the quicksilver moving in his eyes. So just thank you so much for your contributions and your support throughout all of this.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Absolutely. I'm sorry I haven't been able to give you guys anything, but I am a loved fault, you know, I'm not about to spoil my own book for people, so. Which is good.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
We don't want you to. Yes, believe it or not, not. We actually don't want you to know. It's actually been so fun even when you've said no. It's given us opportunities to theorize and I think we actually have a few bets based off of some of your. Oh, we, we got like a lot of bets going into.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I'm so intrigued.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All right, so as we like to do with all of our guests on the show, we'd love to have some fun with rapid Fire and get to know you questions and of course they're all going to be bookish versions here.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
First and foremost, what got you into writing?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Reading. Reading books. Right. I think that's how everyone gets into it. Like a love of books, a love of like disappearing off into a story and, and you know, a little bit of escapism, but just, you know, living many lives through books and then realizing that I wanted to explore that and share my own stories and, and see if the worlds that I was dreaming of resonated with other people. And it's been, you know, the only job I've ever loved and I will never, you know, it was one of those things that I imagined for myself when I was a kid but never thought would Come true. Because writing a book is. No, no small feat, but I did it.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
You did it many times over.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
How many?
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Yeah, this was how many books.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Quicksilver was my 43rd, so brimstone was my 44th. Yeah. It's been a minute.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Wow.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Wow.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
So what is the very first story plot that you remember writing, like, even as a kid or whatever? The very first one that you can remember.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
So I used to write poetry originally. I was very emo, but even as a kid, you know, like with my nana, we used to write limericks back and forth together, and that was kind of how we bonded and how I started writing. She really encouraged me to do that. We would write silly little things back and forth. And the first poem I ever remember writing, I think I was like seven, perhaps, was about my teddy bear, Roly Poly. Yeah. And my nana, unfortunately passed recently and we were going through all of her things, you know, and I found a big stack of the little limericks that she used to write. And my. My poem about Roly Poly was in there. So I was just like, yeah, it was cute. It was cute. My first story, my first book, though, I mean, that was in 2012 and that was a paranormal romance. That is. I have not finished yet. It was not very good. I think I need to go back and rewrite it. Sometimes I, you know, I flick back through it just to see, and there's parts of it that I'm like, oh, man, I can see the bones of something good here.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Yeah.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
But it needs some tlc. It needs some tending. So who knows? One day maybe that'd be so much fun.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Maybe someday we'll read it. I'm so excited that happens. Now we know that you are a big Lord of the Rings fan, so I'm actually gonna adjust this question because it is favorite book or series. But if it is Lord of the Rings, which Lord of the Rings?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I do love Lord of the Rings. I don't know. It's such a subjective question. I feel like people's answers changed on a day to day basis depending on how they're feeling. I don't know. I mean, that's like the. The. I don't know, the overarching, all time favorite for sure. I love Return of the King because it's got some banging moments in that story. But I think, you know, today, often I say Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater depend. Like, I love that series. You know, I can't. I can't remember Mercy Falls. Is it the series? But Shiver is so good and Maggie Stiefvater is just a phenomenal writer. She's a poet. It's beautiful.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Awesome.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Oh, that's so cool.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
So as you are writing, what is your favorite beverage or beverages to have while you are writing?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Coffee glued to my hand. Actually, you know what? I'm lying because I just ran out of milk like a month ago, and I haven't been able to make a cup of tea. So I don't know why, but in my brain I'm like, oh, I don't have any milk. I should order a coffee. Which makes no sense. Like, I should go grocery shopping and buy some milk so I can have some tea, which is what I really want. But my brain is backwards and I'm like, I can't do that. I must order a coffee. I don't. I honestly don't know what's going on, quite frankly. I'm now into Marcha, which I never was. Oh, yes. But I'm into a coffee right now. So here we are. It's an oat milk latte with half a pump of sugar free vanilla.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
That sounds delicious.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
It's pretty good.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Almost exactly what I had yesterday.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I was gonna say that sounds like a very Lexi order right there.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
It's pretty good.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Which realm territory would you want to live in in the Fae and Alchemy series?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I can give you a. A non answer on that one because you guys haven't been to the place that I would pick yet. There's one really cool spot that I would choose for sure. I can't tell you what it is because that would ruin where we're going with the story.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Would you say we'll spend two or more chapters there? Because if so, I win a bet.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Hold on.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
She did not say if it was a new realm.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
That's true. That's true.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Can I tell you my answer? Callie Ballard. I am obsessed with Ballard. And I would love a cozy fantasy with Wendy and her biscuits. Like, I am just obsessed with Ballard.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah, no, maybe a little, like, side quest novella with just, like, really cute things happening. And, like, everyone's so wholesome and they bake and, you know, sit around a fire and yes, Nicole, Callie gets it.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
See, I know.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I'm so. Lexi's into cozy fantasies right now.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
So she.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
She's. You're speaking her language.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I've never read one, but it sounds quite soothing. It sounds like a balm to the soul right now.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I'm reading my first one right now and I'm like, oh, this is. This is nice.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
This is really Nice. Yeah.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
See, Lexi, I'm doing it.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
So. So, Callie, I want to rephrase the question then, from Quicksilver, specifically, which realm, slash territory would you want to be in?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah, I mean, Kalish, obviously, because that's where Fisher is.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Right.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
And Archer. I love Archer. Yeah. And we don't really spend much time in. In, like, the Winter palace, and it's too scary there. It's, like, full of nefarious dealings and. And some really shady characters. There were a couple of characters that I actually cut from that at the beginning of the book because I was like. I wanted to get more to the action, and they weren't super important, but I kind of leaned into, like, demonstrating how dicey it was there for them. And I cut a couple of, like, you know, throwaway characters from that who I think about bringing back every once in a while just to be like, oh, yeah, no, there are assholes everywhere.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Sari is okay.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Who knows?
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Do I have to write my boy a eulogy in our deep dives? So I always do, like, world building topic where I discuss, you know, like, lore and kind of pull from the whole book there. And I call it Rosarius's Library. And we always make sure to only have crackers during it and not a full meal. Right. And I'm very worried about him now.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I'm so worried about my boy Clement. That guy is in my heart so deep. I don't know why.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
But, Kelsey, for a second, I was like, who's Clemens? And then I remembered, like, the, like, mention for one whole line the entire book, I'm like, oh, yeah, he's dead. He's definitely dead. Definitely. Did you see the state of his forge?
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Like, I thought he, like, he got taken, or he was, like, he got, like, taken somehow. And so he was, like, trying to fight back in the fort, I had an entire backstory for my team.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I think he was more of a bit of a drunkard who was taking the stipend that he was supposedly using to discover more about, you know, alchemy and where the alchemists went. And he was just a bit of a, like, drunken sot who didn't take care of his forge. And he probably, like, he probably got drunk and fell down a set of stairs or something. Probably.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All right, we know that you have said this in several other interviews and things like that, but we always would love to ask you, which book character are you most like?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah, probably. I don't know. I would like to say Carrion, but it's probably more kingfisher. I don't know.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
You're definitely a good Malgamation. At least from what we know about you. I feel like you're a good amalgamation.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Of the two of them.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
King Fisher's Locked Box. But you've got the sass and the. And the wit of Carrion for sure.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Some days when I have had more caffeine than I've had today. Sometimes. Yes.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
What was the very first idea that came to you when it came to the Fae and Alchemy series?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah, it was a scene I actually just wrote in book two that I can't talk about, but. Well, I can talk around it. I love these like really kind of like emotional, quiet scenes between Kingfisher and Cerys. And it was a scene like that and they don't say anything. Again, there's a scene like that in Quicksilver. It's like the beginning of that scene is just. It's kind of funny to me, like. And I have a dumb sense of humor. So I don't oftentimes know if other people are going to think it's funny too, in a small way. But that scene, you know, has been playing out in my head for a very, very long time. So when I got to write it, it was a really nice catharsis to it for sure. But yeah, it's a quiet moment between Kingfisher and Sarah. And it was before I knew who they were. But this small interaction gave me a lot of information about them, even though they didn't say anything to each other. And it was a really kind of a fun way of peeling back layers and seeing the interaction between them. And like, yeah, it fed into a lot of other things.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
That is so cool. I'm so excited to read it. We'll be on the lookout for it as we're reading it.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah, you're like, I didn't see this scene at all. Like, what was she talking about?
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Well, the quiet moment between Serious and Kingfisher in Quicksilver is one of our favorite scenes. It was one of the favorites to deep dive as well, just because of how their body language says it all. And they didn't need to say anything in that scene. And it's just like, oh God, it's so beautiful.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
So beautiful.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
And I feel like a lot of us in relationships can. It was very relatable because if I remember correctly, she was kind of mad at him. But it was like, yeah. And it's just like, no, like, we're still a partnership. Like, this is just my feelings right now. And still Reaching out and still loving and connecting with that person. And I just really resonated with that a lot. So your favorite scene that you wrote.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
In Quicksilver is that one. You know, like, I talked about that a lot. Yeah, yeah. Again, because it tells you a lot about who they are and what's developing between them. And like. Yeah. I also love the scene that preceded it. The reason why they're in that position in the first place, obviously. But you find out what's been going on, you get a real, like, there's a huge crack in the wall, you know, and you get to see a lot behind the. You know, his defenses are lowered and you get that kind of moment where he's like, my weakness, my vulnerability. That's a really, you know, special scene to me. But obviously in the maze with Carrion and like, everything that transpires at the end of the book, that's foundational to the whole story and, and the series moving forward. So that's very important to me too. I don't know. I had so much fun writing this book because I had really viscerally seen the whole thing play out back and forward like a hundred times before I sat down to write a single word. So every scene felt like, you know, this real, like, coming to fruition moment where I was getting to realize what I'd been thinking about for so long. And it was just. It felt. It felt wonderful.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Well, real quickly, I know that you just recently did some filming with. It was just absolutely phenomenal seeing all this produced here. But like, I bet that is so cool that it just was initially in your head like that and then, you know, then you were able to write it all out. And now seeing it play out between real people is. I bet that's so cool. That's not even talking about the movie.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah, it was. You know, obviously they're not really acting out scenes from the book in what we did. They're more just representing the scenes. And that part is truly what's going to happen when we go to production with Netflix. Obviously they're going to be the guns on that one, but. Yeah, no, it was really fun. I mean, like, Cray and Tim did such a phenomenal job. Like, they really embodied their characters and they were really good sports and they. We just had a really fun day. It was. We just knocked it all out in one day. And it was a busy, stressful day, but there was a lot of fun. There was dancing on set, you know, like dumb stuff and just being idiots, all of us. And it was just really fun seeing, you know, especially with Tim, like the armor aspect and the costume and the wig. It was just fun seeing that whole process, you know, as well, because it really did transform him.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Last but not least, in our rapid fire, what is your favorite carrion swift line and what is your favorite kingfisher line? Carrion, swift slash Carrie and Dianthus.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Okay, this is a line from book two, so I'm going to give you a line, but it's. It's a very short one. It's. Apparently people like it. I don't know, he's got some. He's got some good lines, you know, that entertain me again. Like, I have a very immature, perhaps, like, you know, dumb sense of humor that, you know, a lot of his lines were just like things that tickled me or made me giggle, you know, So I was like, really surprised when. When he resonated with people so much. I'm really honored that happened because he was literally like, you know, a vehicle to entertain myself when I was writing as well. So I'm very grateful for that. And did you say kingfisher line?
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Yes.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I think I love that, you know, when he's just like exploding and he's like, my weakness, my vulnerability. You're the point where the knife slides in, you know, like, I love all that. That's that like, mini monologue that he got when he's just losing his mind, you know, and he's like, God damn it. Because it's. It's like the first real thing he's been able to say to her despite himself. And there's some great lines in book two as well. Just some really. There's a lot of like, really heartfelt, like emotional stuff from him in book two because he can actually say those things now, you know what I mean? And getting to like show people outside of him now is really, really special. So I'm hopeful that people like the slight dynamic shift in his, you know, how free he can be with how he feels and what he wants. He's very vocal about that.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Friends, I mean it when I say that this sponsor is my kids absolute favorite. Haya has become a staple in our household. And I love Haya too, because they are vitamins. Our family chooses to help our kids get the nutrients they need every single day. My kids love the taste of these vitamins. They specifically ask for them first thing every single morning. It's now so cute. My daughter gets two. One for her and one for her brother. And we finally taught her not to eat her brothers too. They also always want smoothies with the Haya greens powder in them. It's just a win win for everyone. I love it.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I'm so jealous of your daughter and son right now because I would have loved to have had the fun vitamins like this when we were younger. Are you tired of battling with your kids to eat their greens?
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)

So just knowing, seeing how Quicksilver has exploded online and in popularity. What's it been like for you? What are some of like, the best highlights for you as you've seen all this play out?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I, I mean, daily, I'm still kind of like pinching myself because this year has been kind of brutal, if I'm being perfectly honest. You know, a lot has happened. I've been on tour like, like five different places. I was in the UK for six months because my grandmother got Alzheimer's and mixed dementia and then passed away. So the year has just been, I'm looking back now, I'm taking inventory of like, what's happened and like, it just feels like such a wild, surreal time in my life that none of it feels real. But when I open my phone and you know, I'm, I, I know it's just the algorithm, like, sh, because I, it's obviously showing me my content because I'm engaging with it, but it's all I see on my, on my algorithm, you know, on my fyp and I'm just like this can't be real. Like, this isn't, you know, people doing the craziest cosplays and spending so much money on their outfits and time and effort and doing, like, really cool, like, acting up scenes with each other and just being goofy and. And all this stuff with Carrie into, obviously, is just so fun. So, yeah, I don't know. It really doesn't feel. And I keep having to remind myself to, like, take a beat and stop and appreciate what's happening. And I'm just so grateful, you know? Like, I'm really deeply touched by everyone's support and enthusiasm for the characters and the story. And it just. It means the absolute world to me. Obviously, like, without you guys supporting and engaging with the story, I would not get to do what I love. And that, you know, is. Is absolutely huge.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Well, so speaking of seeing all those videos, do you ever look at fan theories? And if so, do you have a favorite it? And you do not have to say if it's true or not. You don't. I don't care.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah. I don't watch them for two reasons. One, I don't want to know if anyone's gotten it right, you know, like, because that. That'd be like, oh, bummer. I thought I was gonna pull the rug a little bit, you know? And secondly, I don't know. It's just none of my business, you know? Like, it's not my place to insert myself into those conversations. Like, that's for. For readers, and I never engage in them. And I'm never gonna be like, oh, yeah, you. You're right. You know what I mean? And, yeah, that. I'm never gonna do that. So if I see people like, you know, if that's the. The. The road that I see the post going down, I just move on because it's just not for me. Super fair. Yep.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
So.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Makes sense. So can you share what it's like as an author with a highly anticipated release coming up? What have you been up to these past few months? How are you feeling? What do you have planned once on your book tours? Done?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yes.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I mean, I hope it's relaxing.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah. I have not slept in a. In a year. Like.
Sundays for Dogs Advertiser
Yeah.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah, I've not slept in a year. One day. I anticipate that I will be able to. I'm really excited for that. Yeah, no, I'm. I'm slammed. I've been slammed. It's a lot like. I'm not gonna lie, it's quite overwhelming. I had this anticipation of when I became traditionally published that my life would get easier because there would be more people to like, like, do things like that. I, you know, is not my forte and I can move on and. But I've just gotten 10 times busier because now there's, you know, third, we're published in 30 languages now, which is crazy. But everyone wants something, they need something. So I'm like, holy hell, how do I keep up? You know, it's really, really tough to keep up. But I'm doing my best. That's all I can do. I just got back from tour in Australia, in New Zealand. I'm about to go on tour, obviously, obviously next week. I've done a bazillion press, like interviews, podcast interviews, radio interviews. But I'm. I'm keeping my head above water trying to write in between it all, which is, you know, an uphill battle. But I'm getting, you know, the odd word down here and there, which is nice. I'm looking for, you know, I'm really looking forward to Tor. Then I have a really cool event taking place in la. And then I have my birthday and Christmas and like a clear stretch where I'm just writing book three. And I'm very, very excited for that. That is like on the horizon. I can see, see myself, you know, chilling in my pajamas and actually getting a moved house. So I'm still unpacking. I'm going to be able to like get all settled and chill and nest a little bit. Go on a bride's retreat maybe. Sounds like fun.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
We love the bonus chapters in Quicksilver. So which was your favorite to write? And then I have a few follow up questions too.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I have a favorite, but you guys want to read it yet? Because it's coming out in one of the Brimstone editions and I'll be damned if I can remember which one it is. It might be Waterstones. It might be the Waterstones one. I can't remember. I'm gonna have to like make a document on my website because people ask me all the time and I get so turned around. There's quite a few bonus chapters now and I've written quite a few for Brimstone too. So I'm gonna have to go and like formulate a document, but it's a Carrion POV chapter and it's. I love it. Oh, I'm so excited.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I am so excited for his.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Gives you a real window into his psyche.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
So did you write all of them after finish? The one specifically for Quicksilver? Did you write them after finishing Quicksilver or did you write some of them while you were writing? Like, for instance, like, the Gate is one of our favorites that.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
That was done way not way after the book was finished. A couple of months after I finished Quicksilver, I think it had been out for a couple of months before I wrote the Gay. I'd already committed to writing them, like, and I'd posted on my. Because when I write normally, I write dual pov and I always give the male, you know, the male narration. And I couldn't in Quicksilver because there was so much going on. And it would have ruined, you know, a lot of the surprises. It would have ruined the enemies to lovers aspect of it. Like, I feel like it would have damaged the tension a lot in the story. So when I was done, I was very, very desperate to write. Write a POV scene from him anyway because I was very much craving, you know, being inside his head and being able to let the readers in, too. So I had committed to writing that chapter as I was finishing Quicksilver. And it was really fun to be able to write that scene too, because it's a really cool scene. It gives a lot of backstory, and it sets you up for book two as well. There's a lot of things that are helpful to know going into book two, so if anyone hasn't read it, it's free on my website. It's. It's right there for you guys. You can go. And there's part one and part two, and it's just like. Like a good little extra bit of information. Yeah.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All right. So as we're talking about these bonus chapters, Nicole and I are about to start going into some very niche questions for you here. And we also totally understand that you will not be able to share some of them, but we're going to shoot our shot. So we have a quick question about or Linda's bonus chapter. That is the one from the Waterstone UK edition, and how it is written in third person up until almost the very end. And that's when it switches to first person. Why did you make that choice?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Because we have a few ideas, I think. You know, I just wanted to kind of switch gears, like, third person. Like you, you're really an observer outside of a story. And I kind of wanted to slowly ease the reader into, like, you know, transition into being her, you know, and the responsibility that she was assuming when she was. Was accepting this squalling brat of a child into her life. So, you know, it was just me being a bit. I don't know, I was scratching an itch. She's a super interesting character and I would love to actually go back and you know, potentially write more content from that. Like, you know, because there's a, like I have that whole story, like it plays out in my head and I know, but no one else does. So it's like, oh man, it'd be nice to share that, that, that kind of information. Like, if I could do like a novella, like really, that would be great. I would love that. But I just don't know when the hell I would do that.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Please sleep first.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Please.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
It would be fun though. Yeah. I mean, Olenna is a really, she's such a beautiful character to me. There's a lot more about the Swifts and the Swift line of women in book two. And you really kind of understand more and see what they've done over the course of a very long period of time.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
In the Fox, the Boots, the Dress, we learned that Kingfisher got his shadow powers from Finryn and his small magics from Edina. Then we see him use illusion magic, like conjuring the bathtub for Seiris. Is that illusion magic part of small magics, shadow magics or something else that.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Is part of his small magic? Yeah, yeah, we do a lot more. You see a lot more info on that in book two. So it's explained a little bit more and you certainly get a better understanding for it. And yeah, it's his small magic. He's got a couple of little things up his sleeve, but obviously his primary power is his shadows.
Sundays for Dogs Advertiser
Yes.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
I'm so excited to learn more about their magic and all of that.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Me too.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All right, so this is random, but we have to ask. There's a scene where Cerys is running through the halls of the Winter palace and she comes across, I'm going to quote this here, long limbed Fae females, they were gracefully volleying a ball back and forth to one another across an F. Are they playing volleyball? And did you used to play volleyball? I'm so curious about that.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
We got this and we were like, wait.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I suppose in my head they were playing tennis, but volleyball is as good as any. A volleying game with balls. It's in the name really, isn't it? Volleyball? So let's, let's just say it's volleyball. And I, I, I used to live by the beach in California here. And I went to a volleyball lesson one time. And then I realized how absolutely like I was not cut out for it. Like my cardio was not there. Like, you have to be really fit for that. And I wasn't.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Especially on beach with the sand and all of that.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah, no, I got my ass handed to me, and I didn't go back for my second lesson, so.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
All right, this is probably a long shot, but when Seras makes her first official relic, she puts the ring on, and all hell breaks loose. So twofold, what the fuck happened? And two. And second, how much of that scene was influenced by your love of Lord of the Rings?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I think, you know, for me, at that moment, it is just that, like, it's foreshadowing to kind of demonstrate to her, you know, that the quicksilver is very interconnected, and it's giving her a little window of what Kingfisher is going through. That kind of, like, mayhem and chaos is what he's dealing with on the daily. You know what I mean?
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Yeah.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
And it was more to do with, like, oh, she's really connecting with the quicksilver now. And because of that, she's experiencing what he experiences, you know, and. And it's more of like a. Yeah, it's quite sad, actually.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
It is extremely sad. And you do so well at making my heart hurt, and I love it all at the same time.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
So thank you, and I'm sorry for book two.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Oh, good. Cool.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Well, okay. I have been very hung up on this even light holiday that is happening in Salvarin, so. Because according to our timeline, it should be coming up as we open Brimstone. Is that. Is our timeline about correct there? Okay, cool. So can you at least tell us anything about this even light holiday? What does it do in Zolvar, and why. Why do they celebrate it? Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool. Stick to my theory.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
You know, I'm very. I'm very usually pretty meticulous about making sure that if something is mentioned in a book, you know, a detail is in there, it's for a reason, typically, unless I messed up. But, yeah, like, there's a lot more info on that kind of stuff in book two. So you're gonna get your questions for sure. Promise.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
So this was when we said that we were doing this interview with you. This was the most. Please, please, please ask Callie this question. Does Carrion Swift still have his plant and does he take care of it?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Oh, boy. It cracks me up. The things that people really like, you know, get hung up on, catch hold of and run with. I love it. He absolutely has his plants.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Yes, of course.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yes. He would never abandon his plant. He would never.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
I love him.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Now is the Plant gonna be third wheeling with him and Simon, or is Simon gonna be third wheeling with him in the plant, or is it just like a why choose situation?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
It's a why choose. Amazing.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I love this.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
We wouldn't put him in that. We wouldn't put. Put him in that position.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
And real quick, Simon is a godsword. Is that correct?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Correct.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Okay. Yeah, I lost a bet. So, okay, so at the end of the book, Serious is like kind of reaching for Kingfisher and he's focusing on something very hard, but she doesn't know what. Can you shed any light on what he was concentrating so hard on, or does it matter?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I'm trying to remember what part you're talking about.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
It doesn't matter. Then it's the very last chapter, and it's her and Taladeus are talking, and Taladeus is mentioning how he, you know, he turned her, he put the memory lock on her, and she tries to reach out to Kingfisher, and Kingfisher is not in the room and he's concentrating on something very hard.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I know, I know now. I was like, no, yeah, he. He is with Tena and Ishbal at that point, and they are. It's so funny because I'm like, okay, at some point I should probably explain this to people. But yeah, he. It's all just in my head, so I'm like, oh, of course it's that. But people don't know. Yeah, no, he's trying to, like, you know, he. He's just. They're pulling the quicksilver out of him, or they're trying to at the end of the book, and they have a modicum of success, but that's what's going on. You know, he's. He's locked down because that's going on at the time.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
So I'm gonna kind of be a little bit more broad. Reaching here is. What do you love the most about Sarah's as an fmc? And specifically, how would you describe her character arc in Quicksilver compared to her arc in Brimstone? Because we see. Imagine there's gonna be a lot of differences. Yeah.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I think, you know, when I write a female main character, I want them to be as whole as possible without, you know, I don't want them to feel completed by their partner or mate. You know, and she's a very whole person, and I love that about her. You know, she doesn't need to. Need a man to be completed. You know what I mean? And I love that in, like. I just love how she's not afraid to stand up for herself and advocate for herself and you know, she's like, you don't get to control me. But we can be partners and we can like be a, you know, a badass team. And, and that's definitely a big theme in book two as well. And I can't really say much about that. But there's some great moments in book two where I really like leaned in hard on that and well, they're great to me. I don't know if anyone else will care, but there's a.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Will care. Not a lot.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
There's a lot actually. I love it. You can let me know when you finish the book. There's one line in the book from Kingfisher that I had been thinking about for a really long time and I was very excited that I got to use it and it was a real moment that I just absolutely loved. When he's talking about her and I'm just like, man, that's my, that's my boy. So, yeah, I'm excited for people to. I don't know whether people will, it's, it's these little like things and, and lines that are meaningful to me that I have no idea if they're going to resonate with other people or whether people will pick up on them or whether they'll just be like, sail straight past them, you know. So it's, it's like, like I'm, I'm waiting to see what you know. It's so interesting because we haven't had any arcs for this book at all. The only person that has read it, I've, I've already said, is Jodi Picoult. She's literally the only human being on earth, apart from my editorial team that have read the book. So, you know, normally when you put a book out and you give out arcs and you get a real vibe and a sense for what people are like, the temperature of what people are thinking and what they're, you know, what they're enjoying or, you know, and I've just got nothing for this book. I'm just like, oh God, I hope I haven't messed it up. I just have to cross my fingers and hope for the best. But I've not got long to wait now. Eight days.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Wow.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
What inspired you to name Kingfisher? Kingfisher?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I love how you guys have got to shoot your shot questions like that, but do you really think I'm going to give you an answer?
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Ok, let me ask a follow up question. Does it have anything to do with the Fisher King myth. Cool.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Got it. All right, so can you clarify if Serris's bird tattoo is part of her mating bond with Fisher? Because it doesn't disappear like the other very specific mating bond tattoos.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yes.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Okay, cool.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
While we're on the topic of tattoos, can you tell us about what their significance is in. In this world? Fisher has some tattoos that move on him. Do others, like Lorath or Ren, do they have tattoos, or is this tied to them being like them, meaning Kingfisher and Sabers being tied to the gods, Zarath specifically.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah, I. They do have lots. They're very tattooed boys. But I can't tell you about their tattoos because that's their story, you know, like, that's the thing about tattoos.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Right.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
They're part of a person's story. Yeah.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
So we'll just have to ask them.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All right.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
And, you know. Yes, it's important that some of Kingfish's tattoos move and some don't. That's relevant. Yeah. Like, the mating bond, you know, is permanent, so it doesn't move, it doesn't shift. Like his other stuff, it's, like, not tidal, but, like, it's definitely connected to emotion and a lot of other stuff. And the Fates as well. Like, he has a. He has a tattoo that says sacrifice, and that one never changes.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All right, I am shooting my shot with this one. So can you. And you already did say that. We will learn more about the Swift Women and all of that. Can you give us any insights into what Carrion has been up to in Salvaro in these past 1000 years?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I'm sure you can imagine nothing. Good.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Sounds good. Okay. Are the rebels going to play into anything? Sounds good.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I was going to be like, Lexi. Fiji won't answer that. Okay, this one I. I think you can answer. If Karrion was in our modern world, what is something you think he would absolutely love? Other than, like, Tinder? Because I do feel like he'd be a big Tinder.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
He'd be a Tinder boy. Putt putt mini golf. I can see him doing that dumb stuff. I don't know those. I think he would like those like. Like, escape rooms where you just get to smash everything. Like, I don't know. He's a weird dude. He'd be up to some weird stuff for sure. Yeah. He'd be getting arrested for sure. Yes. On the regular.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Oh, my gosh. Back to bonus chapters. Because in the maze, bonus chapter, and also at the end of the book, we learn that Taladeus is not all he appears to be and that he and Fisher have. I'll call it a kinship, but I'm using that term a little loosely. Can you share anything about their history or how he and Fisher met? Got close.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Close.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Ish. I love.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
You know, you're very like. You know. You really come at it from a different angle. I love it. No, I can't tell you that. I'm so sorry. Okay.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
We love k. We love to be told no by you.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Callie, Do Renfus and Everlane have a romantic history?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Cool.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I'm trying to think of any of these questions. Okay.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Okay.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
I have a question. I have a question. On a scale from one to five, how prominent will these multiple timelines be?
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Five is most important. One is least important.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Yes.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Okay. Three. Three. 2.5. 2.5. Okay.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Middle ground. Okay, good.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
I've been very hung up on these timelines, Callie.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Hours of her life, I kid you not.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Does Zarith know how the rot started for the Universe Tree?
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Not how did it start, Just does Zarath know?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yes. Cool.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Okay.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Is it.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Are we going to learn how it started?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I'm sure you will.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Can our characters travel to the realms in the other Gods domains or. Actually, I'm gonna. I'm actually back up just a little at the very end. In chapter 44, Zarth mentions how he has this domain of the tree. Can you expand on that just a little bit? Bit what that means. You don't have to go into anything else. Just what it means in chapter 44.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
That's just, you know, his place where he chills, you know, like the quicksilver connects everything. So, like. And there are more than. There are seven gods. You meet three of them in. In Xerath's little hangout spot.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
True.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
So.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
So is it a part of the tree? Or is it. Or is the tree all of the tree that he's staring at? His domain.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
The tree is representative of the universe.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Okay.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
That's what I thought of many, many realms. Cool.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Okay.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Okay.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
And his siblings, they are in his same domain, or he has his own domain and then his siblings have a separate domain.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
These are just clarifying questions.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Sure, sure. You know, where. Where Kingfisher goes is Zarath Spot. So one might infer having, you know, not. Not seen the other guys hanging out there, that they've got to be somewhere. So where would they be? I don't know.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Okay. I happily accept that answer.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Thank you.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Okay. What is one question you've never been asked about the series, but you would love if someone did? Ask you? It would probably not be asked by us.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I mean, you guys have got some bangers. But I'm like, what are you talking about? I'm like, did I write that? What do you mean? Gosh, I don't know. People have been very, you know, I was waiting for people to pick up on a lot of, a lot of the, you know, there wasn't too much going on, but there's some little small tips of the cap and you guys picked up on a lot of them. You know, Bill and the, the coin being like a leaf and a fish was a little tip of the cap too, like a very obscure one. But it made, it made me happy and my brain. So, yeah, I think you did ask those questions that I was kind of waiting for other people to ask.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
So, of course we have you here with an interview. So we have to ask. Any updates regarding the Netflix movie? Anything you can share with us?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah, no updates as of yet. Unfortunately, we're still, you know, at script stage, so there's not much to report. Unfortunately, it takes a, takes a hot minute to make an inch of progress in, in Hollywood. So, yes, it's a long game, you know, and as soon as you know, the reason why I went with, one of the reasons why I went with Netflix is because they understand that, you know, there's a huge community around these kinds of projects, properties and they are quite inclusive and they love to have, give readers a seat at the table. So I'm, I'm super looking forward to being able to share that, you know, the next stage of that, whatever that is. I'm sure it's going to be, you know, we're going to be looking for a director next who we have not, we have not attached anyone yet, yet to the project. And the producers just did Alien, Romulus and also the Love Hypothesis. So that kind of combo is like, really promising to me. Like that, that kind of like gives me a good vibe for, you know, the ability to combine romance and dark, gritty storytelling. Obviously, like everybody else, I am very excited to get to the casting stage and I can't wait to be able to talk about that, that. But right now, you know, we're, we're like quite a ways out from that, so we'll just see.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
While on the road in Australia, you talked about how brimstone is 50% in Kingfisher's POV. What was it like getting to write so much of that book in his head?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
It was great because, you know, I, I, I normally write dual POV and It was very hard for me to make that decision that he wasn't gonna get screen time, you know, like airtime in book one. And I was desperate to be able to do that. But obviously, for reasons that I've already explained, it wasn't, wasn't. It just wasn't gonna work. But, yeah, like, after writing that POV chapter, the Gate and the other one, the Box, the fox, the boots, the Dress, I almost.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Yes, that's exactly.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
This freaking title. Cool. It's funny that you know it and I don't.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Terrible. Writing a lot of other chapter titles in the meantime. I've just been reading that book over and over again.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yes. Yeah. Getting to write those really kind of like, you know, whet my appetite for. For writing his. His pov. So it was very rewarding to be able to write from his perspective throughout the book too. I just love him so much. Like, I love the way that his mind works or doesn't work in some scenarios. And I love being able to show readers now, like, peel back the layers a little bit and really, you know, given a front row seat to his emotions and his feelings and all of the other things that are going on in his head. Yes. There's some really fun stuff going on in book three, too. And then maybe even. Even a third POV in. In book two in book three as well. So we'll see. Small, you know, not. Not like thirds, but we'll see.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Okay, so we learned about the Balcadir witches in Quicksilver. Is there anything else that you can share about them that might be helpful for us readers going into Brimstone?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
No.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Cool.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All right, so I'm gonna pull out another very niche thing. So in One in the Maze, bonus chapter, Belcon is sending men to the Balcadir clan lands. Is that. Yes. Is. Is that. Should we definitely be keeping an eye on that?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Dunno.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Cool.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I might get shut down with this one too. We'll see. With no context, can you share your favorite chapter title?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yes, I can. Yeah, it's either 50 or 51. I can't remember. And it's called the obvious.

All right, so Callie, this is our very last question for you. I'm sure that a lot of listeners right now are probably driving to midnight release parties or they are just anxiously listening to us talk here while they wait for their delivery to come. What are you most excited for us as readers to experience in Brimstone?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Man, there's too many things. You know, there's a lot going on in this book that I. I just absolutely adore. There's so many moving pieces. I keep saying that I sound like a stuck record, but there's a lot of pieces to the story. There's a lot of stuff going on. Even when, even in the luls that feel like they're quieter scenes. There's a lot going on and there's a lot of information being transferred whether you clock it or not.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Challenge.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Challenge accepted.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Yeah.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Yeah.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
You girls will. I know you guys will. You guys absolutely will. But. But I don't know. Like there's, there's some. Oh God, I'm just so excited for you guys to read a lot of the Carrying stuff because that was just like the best freaking time. But also like, you know, there's some really cool stuff happening there. And the relationship between Kingfisher and Saris obviously is, is like I cranked that up to an 11 because I was just like, it's time. So I'm very, very excited for that, that there's some, you know, huge twists and turns in this book. There's a lot going on. So it's really hard for me to answer that. You know, I love some of the, like the banter moments between a lot of the characters. I'm waiting for Carrion. Oh, sorry.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Carrion. And Kingfisher.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Carrion, Kingfisher. And I'm not saying that it's going to happen, but if Hayden and Kingfisher.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Would be the absolutely hilarious, I'm afraid for Hayden.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
But you were just about to talk about the spice.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I was. You know, the, the, the spicy scenes, you know.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Oh, God.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Are there more? Would you say that this is more chili pepper rating?
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
No, no, I don't, I don't think so because I'm around a three. I, I, that's my comfort zone. That's where I like to be. You know, he, he's, he has a way with words so. Well, you know, watch out for that. God, I can I tell you one.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Of our bets, please. One of our bets is how many sex scenes there are. And our hairstylist is in on this too. And so if there are three. Exactly. She gets to cover the mirrors and do whatever she wants with our hair.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Hell yeah. You know it's serious when the hair stylist is involved.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Exactly.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Very seriously.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I love, love it.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Oh, my gosh, Kelly, thank you, thank you, thank you so much. We are so incredibly grateful for you and all that you've given to us especially as we've deep dived this book. Thank you, thank you, thank you. We cannot wait to read Brimstone.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I'm so excited. Thank you for having me. It's been fun doing the. Even if I can't answer most of your questions, I'm so sorry for that. But yeah, I'm just so excited because you guys are eagle eyed. So I know I'm going to have a lot of questions from you from book two and you're probably going to pick up on a lot of things that other people might not. So I, I look forward, I anticipate.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Those moments and we hope that you have a very successful book tour, a book release and all of the things and that you will have a nice, peaceful December.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
I'm looking forward to it. It's going to be great. But I'm just so grateful to you guys and to everyone that's listening. Thank you so much for reading. I'm just so hopeful that people enjoy it.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Yay.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
We're so excited. Well, again, thank you so much. And thank you so much for listening, everyone.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Oh, my gosh. Thank you.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Thank you.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Thank you so much, Kali Hart, for joining us.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
This is so.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
That was freaking amazing. And friends, on this eve of Brimstone, we have one final thing for us to do, and that is for us two sisters here on this podcast, we go through our cutthroat bets. Let's find out who's gonna win.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
I'm so excited. We haven't done this since January with Onyx Storm. I'm so excited. Okay.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
All right, let's kick it off with number one. One it is. There were no consequences in the third after Sarus left. Note. This is after Sarus left through the quicksilver with Kingfisher to Evilia. This does not include any consequences that might have happened after Sarris destroys the maze and, you know, kills Malcolm.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
So when we're talking about consequences, I don't like that word you keep using, Nicole, but it's in, so it's. No, it's like the consequences are like Madra is doing something, so she is taking. Taking some kind of action. So instead, it's more like Madra is not taking actions after Sarah's left.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Okay, so my answer is, I believe it was business as usual for both the third and Madra. Basically, she forgot, but I'm not including that as part of the bet. Note that that's just a. Basically, it's like she forgot. So, Lexi, if I win, you have to watch a Hallmark movie of my choosing and recount the entire plot dramatically in an Instagram recall.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
For context, everybody. I'm not a Hallmark movie person. I'm like a Home Alone Elf, like those Christmas movies, not Hallmark. So I do think that Madra has not been doing absolutely nothing. I think that she has definitely been having to do something because she has been so freaked out after Sarah's went through the quicksilver. And technically, she's already taken action because.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
She adds, there were no consequences in the the third, not in the throne room.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Okay, fair enough. Bottom line is, I think that she has definitely been up to something. And if I win, then you have to watch all the seasons of Ted Lasso. And everybody, Nicole has absolutely refused to watch Ted Lasso, and it's the most ridiculous thing in the entire world because it is the best show ever. So not only do you have to watch all all the seasons, you have to also post an apology video on social media and say how sorry you are that it took you so long to watch the show and why it is the most wholesome, best show ever.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
All right, next. Number two. The woman who gasped in chapter one knows that Serious is fae and or that serious is royalty.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
So I do not think that the woman who gasp knows that serious is Fae or royalty. I do think that it's just a woman who gasped. But where that's not part of it. It is that she does not know. So if I am right, Nicole has to wear free Henry hat. Throw back to our Kindred's curse saga coverage, and you have to make it flow within the context of what you're saying. So you have to wear in one episode, every single Henry hat and find one episode. Yes. And find a way to make each hat fit within the context of what we're saying. I needed some fun stakes for this one.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Okay. If. If she does know that Sarah's is fae and or royal, Lexi has to record an entire episode in a costume of my choosing. And a blow up penis costume is absolutely one of the ones I'm considering.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Okay. Can it not get like flabbed for something on YouTube like.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
We'll figure it out. Next. Serious. Oh God. Serious is of the Dianthus royal line. I want to just make this very clear. I do not believe this anymore, but I committed and. And here we are.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
It's okay. I have a few of these as well later on. So I do not think that Serris is of the Dianthus royal line. I do think that she was supposed to be in a separate timeline, but that's not what this bet is. I do not think that she is. And if I am correct, which I'm like 99% sure that I am. Nicole, you have to perform a skit slash script that I give you to post on social media.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Oh, dear God. Okay. Same rules apply to the penis costume. It cannot get flagged in any way, shape or form. Got it?
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Got it. Okay.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
And if she is by some chance of the Dianthus royal line, Lexi, you have to on whatever episode that we cover that involves the chapter where this information is revealed, you will have to, on camera, bow down to me and say that I am the queen of predictions.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Okay. This is a nice, fun, random one that we have here. How many Obsidian, but actually just Obsidian mentions. Will there Be in Brimstone. So how many times will Obsidian appear in that keyword search?
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Now, to be fair, if it is like Obsidian, like the rap, it will only count as one because it's full word Obsidian. Lexi, if I win, I say it is around 20. And note that this is not Price is Right rules. This is just whoever is closest rules. Lexi, I say it is 20. And if I win, win. Lexi will have to pay me $1 for every number you were off by. So, for instance, if it's 40, you will have to pay me $30 because your number minus 40 is $30. Now, you might be asking if it is 45 exactly. If it's right there in the middle. Our friend Cassie has deemed that her victory. And by deemed, I mean I assigned her that victory. So if Cassie wins, and if it is exactly 45:5, we both have to wear a sparrow and wild designed shirt that says I visited Sanisroth and all I got were 45 obsidian coins. Happily. That's so good. Next, at the Battle of the darn Solace claims Sarus as the wielder of the godsword. I say yes. And Lexi, if by some chance I.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Win, you have to has not officially claimed her technically.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Okay, that is a real technicality. You're going off of you. If I win, you have to clean up all the dishes at Thanksgiving dinner.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All right. And if I buy some miracle win on a technicality, you have to take my children out to dinner and then go to the Drive Thru light show while Jake and I get a table. Date night.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Wasn't I planning on doing that anyway?
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Yeah, this was. Well, you also would have to take them out to dinner, and I don't feel.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I don't know why. I feel like that's threatening. You sound like you're threatening me when you say it that way. Okay, next we are going to learn Kingfisher's true name in book two. I say yes. Now, Lexi, if I win, I get to name a character in your book that you are currently writing.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All right? And I love how I came up with this totally separately. And you and I just so are on the same mind track. But mine's a little bit more diabolical. I get to come up with and insert a side character in your story. I promise it will not have a huge any big repercussions to the story and you will not have to do much editing. But just like in one little scene, let me put in a character there of my choosing.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Next, we will spend two or more chapters in A new realm.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Next book.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Lexi says no. I say yes.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
And so, for instance, we know that we've already been to Zelvarin, we've been to Yuvalia, and technically, we've been to the realm of the gods, even though that is not in the same realm sphere as the others in the universe.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
We don't know that.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
But. So it's like if they go to an entirely new realm that we have not seen yet and that we aren't, I don't think that we will be there for very long. So they wouldn't be there for more than two chapters. I do think that the focus is going to. To be on Yvelia and Sansroth, but that is within the Yvellian realm as well as Zavaran.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
So if there. If we do not spend more than two chapters in a realm.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Next book.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Lexi, what do you win?
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
This is one of my favorites. We have our Acotar holiday party coming up, and you have to wear a bat onesie to it. And don't worry, I've already found several that are very promising.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
If they spend more than two chapters in another realm, you have to film a reel showing your face and doing a talking head every single day for a week. Your face has to be showing, and you have to be talking to the camera every single day.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
I have children.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Do you know what is bad, Lexi? I am. I am ripping this fear and block out of your mind with immersion therapy. Apparently so.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Fun fact, everybody. There is a reason why Nicole is usually the one to show her face on social media. It is like a fear of mine that I. I can speak in front of hundreds and thousands of people in person. But, ma', am, put me in front of a talking head, and it takes me like three hours to even get the courage to then do three hours, and then I don't do the editing, and I have to send it to Nicole because I just can't do these things.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Oh.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Oh, I should include. You also have to do the editing for it. Thank you for reminding me.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All right, this one, I am pretty sure. 99.9% sure that it is now confirmed. But you know what? I'm still rolling with it. Is Simon a God sword? I said no. And if by some miracle I am correct, then I get the window seat for our next flight.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
You know, I give you the window seat 99% of the time, regardless.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
This was a throwaway one.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Oh.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Oh, okay. And if there is a large chance that Simon is indeed a godsword, Lexi, you have to take a Shot of whatever mystery concoction I create for you at Thanksgiving. Madra is an alchemist. This is one of the three types of alchemist. Or all three. She is just an alchemist. Lexi says no. Nicole says yes.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
And if she is not an alchemist, then you have to do do five push ups at any random time that I deem fit. So at any time I can say drop and give me five at any time.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
And it's redeemable once, right? Correct. You're gonna do this at a live show, aren't you?
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
I would never dream of it.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
That is so wrong. So wrong. Now, okay, hold on. I am not strong enough to do five normal push ups. Can I do five? Like where your knees are on the.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Ground, you gotta do five push ups.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
That didn't answer my question.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
I think I might say make them. Make them normal.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Right. I'll start training. I'll let my orange theory coach know so she can start helping me. Amazing. Okay, so if Madra is an alchemist, Lexi has to have a 3D printed penis in the shape of a dragon on her book bookshelf for one whole week. And don't you worry, Lexi, it exists.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Wait, what? A penis in the shape of a dragon. It's not a dragon penis though, right?
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
No, no, it's not a dragon penis. It's a. It's a body of a dragon and the head of a penis. And you have to have it on your bookshelf every day for a week, which includes recording. And don't worry, I already have my friend's husband on this bet, and they are going to make the.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
I know exactly who you're talking about. As long as YouTube does not flag us for it.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Next. Malcolm's alchemist is dead. One of the few times I said no and Lexi said yes.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All of my yeses are associated with people actually being dead. And I know you all. I know you all are going to be like, Lexi didn't learn her lesson. And I know that. And I am still saying. I do think that Malcolm's alchemy.
Sundays for Dogs Advertiser
Who?
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
He said when he was talking to Sarah's about how she was very gifted, but then she still disappointed him. I think that, yes, she is dead. And if I am correct, you have to write and perform a song called I Love Fun Theories and post it to Social.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
If Malcolm's alchemist is not dead, you have to film an entire video in a grim reaper costume apologizing for being so bad at guessing when people are dead. Oh, I love this next one. Next. Laureth and Isha Ball have slept together. Not will slept. Not will sleep together. But they have slept together already.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
No.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Nicole says yes.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
And because I don't think that they've already slept together. And if I am indeed correct, then, Nicole, you know that really good barbecue place that's over by your house that you're talking about, but it was only open during, like, a certain window of time. Time. And it's always out and all of that. Well, that sounds like a lot of work for me to try to figure out, like, when I should go and if they're going to be, you know, out already. So you have to pick up and bring me that really good barbecue.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
And if I win, if they have slept together, I get to pick your Christmas theme for the year. No, no, no if, ands, or buts.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
My children are getting older now, and they love their Christmas.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I know. No, it's a good thing that I.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Like spongebob, because that is this year's. Because I lost that bed.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Oh, that's right. I did already pick your Christmas theme. Okay, how about this, then? I get to pick your Christmas wrapping paper to go with the Christmas theme.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
As long as it's spongebob.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
It will be spongebob, because I already picked that theme, which is great for.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
It, too, because it sounds like some custom wrapping paper, and I don't want to pay for it.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
I am not paying for it. I get to pick it or design it, and you get to pay for it.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Okay, this one is. I already know that. We have to explain what exactly this means. So Malcolm is dead. And while I do think that he is dead, his body is dead. He exploded into blue flames, and all the magic disappeared. I do not think that he is coming back, like, physically coming back. Nicole thinks that he is going to be.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
Respond.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
That's the word. Yes. So I think that Malcolm is dead for all intents and purposes. Purposes.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Okay. And if you win, if he is.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Indeed dead, then I get 2L veto for the foreseeable future with Deep Dives.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Okay. Okay. And if he is going to come back, if he is not dead, Lexi, you have to wear two egg on your face, tattoos on your forehead for an entire episode. Not one, two.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Next.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Talladeus knows about Savris's convo with Zarath. Lexi says no. Nicole says yes.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
And the reason is because he blocked her memory. And once when he releases the block and she remembers again, she does remember her conversation with Zarth. So Nicole is under the impression that because he was able to block those memories for her that he has access to those memories and he can see them. I don't know if I necessarily agree with that or especially that he had access to the Zarath conversation too, because she was in kind of a different world and whatnot. So if he does not know about this conversation with Zarth, or I guess if we do not get any clarity that he does. Right. So you have to completely dress me and pick out my dresses and accessories that I will love for any ball of my choosing.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Oh, I love that. You're like my Barbie doll. That sounds fun.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
I get so stressed out with this stuff. It is like, I love doing it, and. And at the same time, sometimes it can be one more thing when there's a lot of things that I'm already juggling. And initially I was like, oh, I get to pick yours out. I was like, wait, that's more work for me. So you have to pick mine out, and I just get to, like, do selecting and what I want. Like what we did for the witch costumes for Halloween that you did for us. That was so nice.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
That was so fun. I love that. Okay, that's a great one. Mine is much more diabolical if Taladeus does know about Cerus conversation with Saris. Lexi, I get to create a playlist for you. And you have to outline to the playlist. Entirety of your outlining has to be spent listening to this playlist with video evidence for one episode. And you know what the first song on that playlist is going to be?
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Some Sweat Drops down My Bow. No.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Oh, no, that's far too kind. It will be the Water buffalo from Veggie Tales.
Callie Hart (Author Guest)
No.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
And then I'll probably put.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All right, this is another one where I say yes to someone being dead. Serious father is actually dead. He's dead dead. I do indeed think that he is dead dead. And, Nicole, you cannot cuss in an episode of my choosing. And every time you do let one slip, then I get an hour of babysitting.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Fine, fine, fine. That worked out. That worked out fine for me last time. I like your kids. And then, Lexi, if Saris's father is not dead, Lexi, you have to do a TikTok dance of my choosing. And you know how mean you were with my TikTok dance.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
Maybe.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Yeah. Last but not least, it would not be a lead up to a new book drop with fantasy fangirls if we did not have the sex bet. So how many sex scenes will there be in Brimstone, Lexi? How many do you say I'm Going four or more.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
I learned my lesson last time.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
And in a shocking turn of events, I am going two or less. Now, before you're like, nicole, how dare you. They're gonna be a part for some of this book now. Okay, Lexi, how do we qualify a sexy.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
There has to be a really good. And I know that you're like, they're all good, but no, like a. A big good orgasm on the page. For instance, if it's a really good finger bang session, then yes, absolutely. If it is a super duper quick hand job and he's super embarrassed about the orgasm he just had, that does.
Nicole (Fantasy Fangirls - Younger Sister)
Not count if there are three sex scenes. Exactly. This is where our hairdresser, Whitley comes in. Because here is the bet. If Lexi wins, she gets to pick out my shade of blue and the pop of color that I do in my hair. So right now I have pink. She would get to pick out the shade of blue and whatever color I have as the pop. If I win, I get to pick out her shade of purple and whatever color she has as a pop. If Whitley wins and there's three sex scenes. Exactly. That is when she covers the mirrors and she gets to do whatever she wants to. Within reason. With our hair. Now, before you're like, well, she did it for Onyx Storm, but it turned out so good. She's a hairdresser. That's kind of the boy. She does want it to look really good, but she gets to do whatever she wants to. Whatever she's been dreaming with our hair. Within reason, obviously, because she's been working on her hair for a long time and she's not going to throw it away in one single swoop.
Lexi (Fantasy Fangirls - Older Sister)
All right, there you have it, friends. That is our bets and. And we're just so excited. Next time we all meet, it's going to be on the other side. And speaking of which, here's the upcoming schedule for Fantasy Fangirls. We will be diving straight into Brimstone on Monday, December 1st with episode one. The chapter schedule and breakdown will come soon after the book releases and we get that all figured out.

On Tattoo Lore:
"It's important that some of Kingfish's tattoos move and some don't. That's relevant. … Like, the mating bond, you know, is permanent, so it doesn't move, it doesn't shift..." – Callie Hart (44:58)
On Book 2’s Anticipation:
"Oh God, I'm just so excited for you guys to read a lot of the Carrion stuff because that was just like the best freaking time. ... the relationship between Kingfisher and Saris obviously is, is like I cranked that up to an 11 because I was just like, it's time.” – Callie Hart (61:27)
On Fandom’s Response:
"Daily, I'm still kind of like pinching myself because this year has been kind of brutal... when I open my phone ... it's all I see ... people doing the craziest cosplays and spending so much money on their outfits and time and effort ... It means the absolute world to me." – Callie Hart (27:26)
On Carrion in the Modern World:
"He’d be a Tinder boy. Putt putt mini golf. ... Like, escape rooms where you just get to smash everything. ... He’d be getting arrested for sure. Yes. On the regular." – Callie Hart (46:07)
