Hi, fashion people. Let's talk about the C Word. Not couture, not capsule, but rather the one we whisper when a woman steps out of line. Crazy. Enter the C Word podcast. Lena Dunham and Alyssa Bennett are your guides on a deliciously deep dive into the lives of women the media called unhinged, hysterical, or just too much. We're talking Winona shoplifting in Marc Jacobs, Lindsay in every tabloid from 2004 to 2012. Mariah crashing MTV's TRL in heels and a tank top handing out ice cream. You get it? Icons who were publicly adored and then devoured. The C Word podcast is rich, emotional, and laugh out loud funny. And now, for the first time, it's out from behind the paywall and available for free. As you enjoy this trailer, be sure to search for the C Word wherever you get your podcasts.
Lena Dunham
Hi, it's Lena. A few years ago, I was busy hosting a podcast called the C Word with my dearest friend and historian of bad behavior, Alyssa Bennett.
Alyssa Bennett
What is up?
Lena Dunham
We loved making this show so much, but at the time, it was only available behind a paywall. Now we're breaking her free, baby. Much like all of the greatest women in history who have dug themselves out of jail, we are bringing her out of vault and into your hearts.
Alyssa Bennett
It will be as though we are all returning to high school together after decades away to open up a time capsule. But instead of finding cigarette butts, old mixtapes, and security footage of me eating lunch alone in the stairway, we're going to be rediscovering the stories of women's society dismissed by calling them mad, sad, or just plain bad.
Lena Dunham
These stories feel as relevant now as they did when we first recorded them. Because I have a secret. Nothing changes for women. But if you're new to the C Word, it's a chat show about women whose society is called crazy.
Alyssa Bennett
It's a tale as old as time and maybe as recent as yesterday for some of you. Lena?
Lena Dunham
Oh, I would know nothing about that. Some of the women whose stories we explore include but are not limited to Robin Givens, Lindsay Lohan, Mariah Carey, Chyna.
Alyssa Bennett
Journalist Janet Cook, the only person to ever return a Pulitzer Prize, Winona Ryder.
Lena Dunham
The only person ever to steal a Marc Jacobs cardigan. Just kidding. We've all done it.
Alyssa Bennett
And so, so, so.
Lena Dunham
Because unfortunately, our culture is addicted to calling women crazy. And if you think it stopped, it has it. Just try doing something lightly crazy. But Alyssa and I, we never, ever, ever will.
Alyssa Bennett
We'll never call you crazy. Listen to and follow the C Word with Lena Dunham and Alyssa Bennett, available wherever you get your podcasts.

Episode Focus: A spotlight on the podcast "The C-Word"—a show dedicated to re-examining the lives of women who have been labeled ‘crazy’ by media and society.
This episode of Fashion People introduces listeners to "The C-Word," a podcast hosted by Lena Dunham and Alyssa Bennett. The central theme is society's persistent urge to label outspoken, rule-breaking, or simply misunderstood women as “crazy.” Dunham and Bennett revisit the stories of pop culture icons and public figures whose reputations were marred by this damaging label. The episode invites listeners to reflect on how these stories, though historic, are uncomfortably relevant today.
Playfully irreverent yet thoughtful, Lena Dunham and Alyssa Bennett mix sharp social commentary with personal anecdotes and pop culture nostalgia. They blend empathy for their subjects with biting humor, inviting listeners to re-examine the ways society marginalizes nonconforming women.
This Fashion People episode presents "The C-Word" as an essential, witty, and emotionally resonant exploration of women artists, performers, and journalists unjustly labeled as “crazy.” Lena Dunham and Alyssa Bennett revive these narratives not only to highlight their enduring relevance but also to challenge the lexicon and culture that ostracizes women for breaking social norms. The episode serves as both a teaser for the newly accessible podcast and a call to examine, and perhaps change, the stories we tell about women.
