Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a major public health epidemic closely linked to the epidemics of obesity and the metabolic syndrome. Its prevalence, combined with recent research advances, necessitates that endocrinologists and primary care physicians are involved in identifying and managing persons affected by, or at risk for developing this disease.
