Have you always. I mean, you're always funny. You're always commentating. Really funnily. How'd you get into stand up? How long you've been doing it?

[Laura Lee]

I never saw, like. Like, I think I just wanted to be in entertainment for the longest time. So, like, when I was younger, I was always, like, in a parent teacher conference because I was so disruptive to the class because.

[Manny MUA]

Can I imagine? I kept shocking shock you disruptive? Never.

[Laura Lee]

That's crazy. So I always thought it was a really bad thing that I was like. Like, to me, it just wasn't something to be proud of. Like, I was just constantly in trouble. And then, like, YouTube happened and I realized as I was doing that and I started street interviews and that, like, I was really good at talking with people and I was quick on my feet and I just sort of developed a comedic voice without realizing it. And then after doing this shit for, like 13 years, it's like, okay, we've gotta pivot somehow and so do something else.

[Manny MUA]

We gotta do something else.

[Laura Lee]

I was like, about, like, two, ish, two, three years ago, I. I was doing open mics and stuff before, and I had opened for Curtis Connor like, twice in New York pre, like, 2016, but that was like, my only experience. And then I started doing shows. And how does it work?

[Manny MUA]

Do you just, like, get booked through, like, a place and they're like, oh, we want you to come in.

[Laura Lee]

So like, now the way it works is, like, I have an agent who does, like, just comedy touring.

[Manny MUA]

Got it.

[Laura Lee]

So he will talk to, like, different comedy clubs and so love that one. This one? Yeah. This one that has a few all over the country is like, we'd love to get Chris in to, like, these six venues.

[Manny MUA]

Gotcha.

[Laura Lee]

And so then it's sort of planned into that.

[Chris Clemens]

That makes sense, I think. Do you ever get nervous? Like, what do you do before you go on? I've read so many comedians books just because I love Comedy.

[Laura Lee]

Yeah.

[Chris Clemens]

And, like, they all have, like. Some will starve themselves, some will get drunk, some will not have any of that.

[Laura Lee]

I used to drink a lot before, but that's before I had beta blockers. So, like, I was just like, I cannot be sober up here, like, in any regard. Like, it's so.

[Chris Clemens]

That was a lot of comedians, like.

[Laura Lee]

Stage fright, like, so crazy. And it's hard because everybody's always like, the people are there for you. And, like, it is so true. And it makes it so much easier rather than like a raw dog crowd.

[Manny MUA]

Oh, I can't imagine.

[Laura Lee]

But yeah, I kind of just, like, Zen out before. Not like. But I'm just, like, dissociating on a couch in the green room.

[Chris Clemens]

Love that. Do you. Whenever you go on, do you kind of have, like, a couple jokes, like, lined up up here? Like. Cause a lot of comedians do storytelling.

[Laura Lee]

Yeah. So when I do stand up, I kind of. Every show is very different because I will start with, like, some stand up at the beginning or, like, new things that I'm writing and trying out. But most of the show is talking with the audience. So I send out, like, a form. So I send out a form with, like, prompts of, like, a wild story. Do you need advice? A controversial opinion? You have a secret you've never told anyone. And so I will, like, put them in a bowl and pull out random ones, and then they'll get a microphone and we basically talk through it. And it's just the most fun shit ever.

[Chris Clemens]

That sounds like the most fun thing ever.

[Laura Lee]

It's just like a giant, like, sleepover with your girls. Like, you're just talking shit and, like, we're all judging each other, but, like, in the way that friends, like, make fun of each other.

[Manny MUA]

And then at the end, I read everybody's secrets and keep them anonymous.

That's where the show gets really heavy. But I leave stage after that, so.

For this set of shows. Yeah. Like, I kind of start with, like, a little blurb, and then I make a cocktail. Because, like, that's something I do on my channel. So I make, like, a weird cocktail, and then I get, like, right into it.

Deeply gotten. And I would go to Groundlings and some.
