Laila Taylor
I could be black and white. I don't need to be either or. I'm both.
Manny Mua
Hey, guys. Welcome back to your favorite podcast. Full coverage with your hosts, Manny Mua and Laura Lee.
Laura Lee
Today we have a very special guest from the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Laila Taylor.
Manny Mua
Oh, my goodness.
Laura Lee
We are so excited to have you.
Laila Taylor
I'm so excited to be here.
Manny Mua
I'm screaming.
Laura Lee
I'm just jumping in. This was the craziest season.
Laila Taylor
Oh, so good.
Laura Lee
Like, couldn't take my eye. This is not a be on your phone type of shit.
Manny Mua
No, no, no.
Laura Lee
Put it down, put it down, put it down.
Manny Mua
It's, like, incredible, you guys. Like, she is one of the casts of Secret Lives. And truly, we have been in it since season one. We've been in there, like, swimwear. So to have you here and to talk about season three is just so, like, exciting for us.
Laila Taylor
I'm so excited to be here. Seriously.
Manny Mua
I don't know, because before she starts, she was like, I've seen you guys. I've watched you guys forever.
Laila Taylor
No, I. Since I was a little girl, I feel like I learned how to wear makeup because of you guys.
Manny Mua
Oh, my God.
Laila Taylor
Seriously, so this is amazing.
Manny Mua
Oh, my gosh.
Laila Taylor
Thank you.
Manny Mua
No, it's amazing. You look amazing.
Laura Lee
Thank you.
Manny Mua
Like, she walked in like a supermodel. I go, I love you guys. I'm like, this. I love it. I literally love it. Before we're going to get in, we do active these things where we do, like, peaks and pits or it's like something like, good from the week. Something kind of like from the week. And we'd love for you to tell us yours.
Laura Lee
Okay.
Laila Taylor
Peak. I would say this honestly.
Manny Mua
You're so sweet.
Laila Taylor
This way special. This is amazing. Low. I got a call from my kids school yesterday that no one came and picked them up. Oh, yeah.
Laura Lee
So you're lying.
Laila Taylor
The world kind of falls apart when mom's out of town. And I learned that full circle yesterday. Had to like, call my nanny and like, why is no one there to pick up my kids right now? Go get them right now. So that was definitely lows that I feel like I could never leave town without everything crumbling.
Laura Lee
Also, how embarrassing because you're like, okay. Like, come on.
Laila Taylor
No, it. You had one job.
Laura Lee
Literally. Literally.
Manny Mua
Yeah, that was so.
Laura Lee
That sucks so bad. How is being a single mom?
Laila Taylor
Oh, my gosh. It's so hard. Seriously. It's the hardest job. So rewarding. Yes. Two little boys, four and three.
Manny Mua
Wow. So babies, like babies, they ever travel with you or do you just like.
Laila Taylor
Kind of like right now they're at the age that they would make traveling harder, at least for like business things, but going on a trip for them, they were at Disneyland, things like that, that's fine. But this, I wouldn't know what to do with them right now, you know, and they'd be bored. So I'm like, it's better just keep them at home when I'm doing work things. But would love to bring them in the future. That'd be so fun.
Laura Lee
Well, they're babies and there's two of them. So, you know, it's like tough.
Laila Taylor
Tough for sure.
Laura Lee
Well, good for you. I'm so.
Manny Mua
It's very impressive.
Laura Lee
I am. I'm so happy for you and all that you've done. We want to jump in some really good, juicy questions from this season. I feel like you were a star this season.
Laila Taylor
Thank you.
Laura Lee
And me and Manny love to hear you find your voice this season. We feel.
Manny Mua
Yes.
Laura Lee
So. So our first question. We want to talk a little bit about the bomb that went off, which was Jesse's affair. Yes. And one, you're a really good friend to Jesse, which we love.
Manny Mua
We love Jesse.
Laura Lee
We love Jesse.
Laila Taylor
Love her so much.
Laura Lee
We love Jesse. So. So our first question is at the end of season two, when you went to Marciano, if that's his name, Maro Margiano. The Italian.
Manny Mua
Yes.
Laura Lee
The meatball.
Laila Taylor
Yeah.
Laura Lee
Did you believe the meatball at the end of season two when he said he slept with Jesse, did you believe him?
Laila Taylor
No. I feel like it was just I was so caught off guard because I went into that meeting with the intent to get more information with him and Demi. So when he brought up Jesse I feel like I was just blindsided. And it was like I didn't even know what to say, but just the first thing on my mind was like, okay, does Jordan know? And if he knows, then I feel like at the end of the day, it's like it's his and Jesse's marriage and they need to work through it. And. And then I need to let Jesse know before this gets blown out of proportion into something that's bigger than it needs to be, which, obviously it's a big deal, but it's also like, it's her business to share, and that was like my top priorities that I wanted to let her know before drama hit the fan. And I don't know, it was just a very overwhelming thing because I was like, hey, this could ruin a lot of things. Their marriage, her business, potentially, like, her self image. Just everything was kind of on the line there. And it was. It was a lot.
Manny Mua
What's really crazy about it, too, is that he actually brought it to the story. He actually brought it to the show. It wasn't you who brought it in. Like, you didn't even. Like what was even happening.
Laura Lee
You saw. You were talking about Demi and him, and you were blindsided with this piece of information. And then the season ended and we were all like, I know.
Laila Taylor
Great tv.
Manny Mua
You know, great tv, but horrific. I know.
Laura Lee
So this season, I feel like we learned so much about Jesse and Jordan's relationship that we didn't know and. Cause it was always like, Whitney, you know, relationship had problems, other people had problems. Relationship, you know, Zach and everybody else had, but not so much Jesse and Jordan. So now that you know what you know about Jesse and Jordan's relationship, how do you feel about them getting back together?
Laila Taylor
It's hard because I feel like I. I know how hard emotional abuse can be and how much it can ruin your mental health and your self image and just everything. I feel like Jesse puts on a really good face and she's really good at faking it. And that's why I feel like no one knew the extent of how bad it was because Jesse's just really good at putting on a smile and acting like everything's okay, which is a great thing, but you don't know how bad someone can be suffering. And it wasn't until this all came out that we were like, oh, like Jesse's not in a happy marriage. And I think just ultimately we want Jesse to be happy. Like, I, obviously, I'm friends with Jordan by association. It's not like Jordan's My top priority.
Manny Mua
He's not your sister.
Laila Taylor
No. Like Jesse, I love her so, so much, and I just want to see her happy. And if that's with Jordan, awesome. If that's not Jordan, also awesome. I just want to see her happy.
Laura Lee
My favorite line from the entire season three is when you walk in the house for the bar barbecue and you look Jordan in the face and she goes, did you rent this house for a couple hours from Jesse to have this barbecue? And Jordan looked like he just got punched in the face.
Laila Taylor
Yeah, he was not good for you.
Laura Lee
But did you plot to say that or did you just feel it when you walked in the room?
Laila Taylor
I just, I feel like Jordan, he loves to like, kind of claim things that are his. And I feel like when you're in a marriage like Jesse, I mean, we can say she, she's a sole provider. She's the one that like built Jay Z from the ground or bottom up and she provides them their lifestyle and that's amazing for her. But I feel like when he says. Says things that he's like, oh, like my things. I'm like, no. Like, even Jesse will be like our house, our car, our everything. And I feel like Jordan always like, emphasizes on like my, my, my mind. I'm like, dude, like, this isn't yours. So I feel like I just kind of wanted to like, make sure he realizes that, that like, you have the most amazing woman in front of you that provides you the most amazing life. She gave you two beautiful children and you don't have to lift a damn finger and everything's in front of you. So, like, act like it, you know?
Laura Lee
God, that was a power, right? That was a power move right there. When you said that, I was like, and this is why it's good tv. Also the look on his face I would pay money to see and for in person. He wanted, in my opinion, I think he wanted to pop off so hard, but he couldn't. The camera's rolling.
Laila Taylor
Yeah, he. But also like, what would you say? Are you going to say, cuz did I lie? Did I stutter?
Manny Mua
No, no, no lies were spoken. Another boss move I felt like was you inviting Chase to your birthday. And when looking back when I was watching it, I'm like, do you think she regrets, like, inviting. Because I feel like he honestly like grew legs with that situation. So I was wanted to ask you in person, like, do you regret inviting Chase to your birthday party because of how things transpired that night or was it kind of like, I don't give a Fuck, it's my birthday.
Laila Taylor
No, I don't. I think when it comes down to it, it was my birthday party. And I think, personally, if roles were reversed, and let's say you went to Macy's birthday party and she invited somebody I wasn't a fan of, I would suck it up for her. I know, like, this is her birthday party. I'm not gonna ruin the night for her. And I think that's what it came down to is that I was like, guys, like, I get you don't like him. Chase is a very polarizing person. I'm not gonna say he's perfect. I was mad at him at some point, too. Like, he said some awful things about me, and I had a more deeper relationship with him to actually, like, feel a deeper, deeper level of hurt. So if I can get past it, if Miranda can get past. If Taylor can get past it, like, who are you to say you can't?
Laura Lee
If Miranda, for God's sake, I'm like.
Laila Taylor
She'S been through hell.
Laura Lee
Hell.
Laila Taylor
Things that she's never even shared with that man. So I'm like, guys, like, if she can be cordial, you can too. And I feel like that's what it came down to is just, like, it. They just weren't being a good friend in that moment. So, no, I don't regret it. Should I have communicated? Yes. But I feel like this group also is, like, so bad at communicating, and it's just. I don't know.
Laura Lee
There's so many of you guys, too.
Laila Taylor
There's so many events, and there's things that get lost in translation, and I just didn't think it was going to escalate to that dramatic of a situation. I. I feel like the girls really blew it out of proportion. And we talked through it, and, like, we're good now. And they're like, we have pregnancy hormones. We're, like, really emotional things like that. And I'm like, okay. Like, I get it. And I feel like as long as, like, we can all see each other with grace in that moment that, like, I lacked in communication, they lacked a little bit of, like, a more reasonable response, then we can move forward, you know? But I don't regret it. I would invite him to anything again because he's my boyfriend's brother, and I want to have a good relationship with him.
Laura Lee
We were gonna ask you.
Manny Mua
Yeah.
Laura Lee
Where are you and Mason at now? Because we saw a little flame kind on the show between you two, which, first of all, me and Manny love it. Where are you guys at?
Laila Taylor
Now it's my boyfriend, like, full blown. Yes, I know. I am. I'm obsessed with him. He's the best.
Laura Lee
He must not be anything like Chase.
Laila Taylor
No polar opposite.
Manny Mua
He must be nothing like his brother.
Laila Taylor
I think that's what a lot of the girls concern was. First when I started bringing Jason around, they're like, oh, like, that's Chase's brother. And I'm like, guys, like, I wouldn't be with him if he was anything like Chase. Like, I respect myself too much for that. If he showed any characteristics that were similar, I would kick him to the curb. So, like, I promise you, he's a good guy and he's seriously such such a good person.
Laura Lee
Love that. Does Chase talk? Because we don't see a lot of Chase show for a good reason. But does he actually talk a lot of his smack and says thing on his podcast?
Laila Taylor
Yeah. So that was, like, primarily where he would talk. His shit is him and his little friends would just go and talk crap.
Manny Mua
And want to see and about the show.
Laila Taylor
They would talk about a bunch of things, but I feel like that's the way that they would bring in viewers is that they would say, like, mom talk or something and then talk about Taylor and me and all the other girls. And I think it was just a way to bring in viewers. Like, I get it. You have to work the game, but, like, keep our names out of your.
Manny Mua
Mouth, you know, Especially when it's like that, when they're, like, literally just talking about you the entire time and you're like, yeah, okay. You guys are, like, not even in it. Like, what are you talking.
Laila Taylor
What are you talking about?
Manny Mua
You had one scene.
Laila Taylor
Yeah, yeah.
Manny Mua
You almost got your ass beat. Like, what are you talking about? Yeah, hello. I know.
Laura Lee
I want to go back to the barbecue that Jordan threw without Jesse there, which is stupid, but I agree. Do you feel. Well, what do you feel like the outcome of that was? Because I think he thought going into that the guys could help jump in and throw, you know, some get the women on his side, essentially. What are your thoughts leaving that? Like, are you like, baby, what the was that?
Manny Mua
Are you thinking, like, why is he trying to. As a viewer? I felt like when we were watching, it felt like he was trying to get people to turn against Jesse in a weird way or feel like get his side by not agreeing with what Jesse is saying or, like, be like, well, she cheated on, you know, doing this whole thing, but I feel like the girlies had her back, like, the entire time. What did you guys feel like leaving that, were you? Like, what the was that?
Laila Taylor
Yeah, 1000%.
Laura Lee

Laila Taylor
I feel like it was weird and I understand, like, wanting to have both sides be heard. I get that. And you have every right to share your half of the story, Jordan. But I think the way he went about it was a little icky, like, not inviting Jesse to her own home.
Manny Mua
So weird.
Laila Taylor
Like, so weird. Like, I just don't get it. And also, it's just we don't need to hear your side. Like, yes, we. We're aware of what Jesse did. No one's condoning cheating. Cheating's awful. You should never do that. But also, like, the circumstance that led Jesse to that is that you were emotionally abusing her for years and she didn't have any self worth or confidence, and that's what led her to cheating. And that's most. That's also important, too. Both sides can be true. Jesse could cheat, and it was awful. But the way you treated her was also awful. So, like, you're not going to convince us to, like, hate Jesse.
Manny Mua
Love that the awfulness doesn't count. Doesn't.
Laila Taylor
Like, they're both.
Manny Mua
Yeah, they're both up.
Laila Taylor
Take accountability and, like, if you want to move forward, great. But, like, we're not going to gang up on our friend. It was just weird.
Laura Lee
What do you think about Jesse bringing Marciano to dinner that night?
Laila Taylor
I. I can understand why she did. I feel like she wanted to, like, placate in a way and, like, keep him at ease.
Laura Lee
Yeah.
Laila Taylor
However, I do think she probably should have told Jordan.
Laura Lee
Yeah.
Laila Taylor
I do agree with that. Like, a phone call, I think would have gone further than him finding out later because I feel like he did have right to be upset. Like, why are you even, like, talking to him? But I also think, like, we were waiting on the results. I just don't think there is malicious intent behind it. I just think, again, communication. That's something that a lot of us girls need to work on still to this day. It's hard, though, when you're put in, like, situations that are hard to, like, be vulnerable and open up. And also, Jesse's kind of in a situation with that marriage that she can't speak up without getting yelled at or have, like, repercussions for her speaking up. So I feel like she's just kind of in a state of, like, fear with Jordan. So maybe she just didn't feel safe to communicate that with him.
Laura Lee
Yeah. Because she didn't want to go to war. Which kind of reminded me whenever you guys in season one went to. I believe it was season one went to the Chippendales. And then obviously she didn't want to tell Zach because of how he would react to the situation. So it's kind of like.
Laila Taylor
Yeah.
Laura Lee
And then what happened was whenever she did, he did find out they were sitting on the couch. He did everything that she had been describing of how he behaved. He, like, put it on camera.
Laila Taylor
Exactly.
Laura Lee
So you're kind of like, you got A front row seat to what she was talking about the whole time. So that was crazy. Do you feel like Jesse has feelings for Marciano still?
Laila Taylor
No. Really? Okay. I think she saw all she needed to see. I feel like if she. You know what I mean? If what? Regardless of, like, what happened in her marriage, blah, blah, blah, or, like, what's happening. I think him being conniving and going behind the scenes and plotting against Jesse with Demi showed her all that she needed to see, you know, I just don't think pursuing your relationship with someone.
Manny Mua
Like that and using you as a catalyst to do it was so crazy.
Laila Taylor
Yeah. So up.
Manny Mua
So, like, you're in the middle of it and you're kind of like.
Laila Taylor
And I'm like, how did I get here?
Laura Lee
Like, this was about me.
Laila Taylor
To me.
Manny Mua
To me.
Laura Lee
Yeah, to me.
Laila Taylor
To me.
Manny Mua
Okay. Speaking of Demi, though. Okay. The party. Yeah, the party where, like, you guys essentially each other. The jet party. Yeah, girl.
Laura Lee
Did you. Excuse me. Expect that reaction from her, Demi?
Laila Taylor
Not to that level. I didn't expect her being like, okay, I'm gonna go on live and I'm gonna expose this. I was like, well, like, is your brain just, like, not functioning properly like, now? Like, what is going on? Why are we going to such extremes? And like, again, this is someone that you loved at a point in your life. I know you're upset with Jesse, and rightfully so. You guys are mad each other for different reasons, and I get it. But, like, that is such a severe extreme that I just never thought she would come to. I don't know. It was just. I. I just feel like I've seen a lot of her true colors come out because we've heard things. We've heard, like, whisperings of Demi from, like, past friendships and things like that. But I feel like you always just. I personally like to look at people with rose colored glasses until I'm proven wrong. And I feel like that's what a lot of us did with Demi for a long time. And it's. It's hard. But, yeah, I was definitely like, who are you right now?
Laura Lee
She turned to a monster. But what was killing me in that scene? You were, like, unmuting. It was like. And you were like, what the.
Manny Mua
I know. No going off on her. And then you'd be like, yeah, she's, like, being so crazy right now. What? Like that literally, like, that's literally what you're doing.
Laura Lee
Business well. But you're like, let me mute cussing you out.
Manny Mua
We're back. We're back to reality. Before. So, like. So have you always got. This is, like, a random question I didn't have, but because, like, of how you've talked to the girls this season, you've, like, been really confrontational with them at times. Have you been conversational with them in the past? Like, not on camera, just in general. Have you been confrontational with the other castmates? Or is this something that you, like, really kind of, like, grew into, have found your own voice in as the seasons have progressed?
Laila Taylor
Grew into for sure. I think I've always had a really hard time with confrontation. Hopefully in future seasons, I'm able to share this, but I've dealt with, like, a lot of trauma in my life and a lot of abuse and things, and that's how I respond to, like, high, tense situations. I shut down. I have a hard time speaking up, and I just kind of sit there with, like, my tail between my legs. I'm just scared to speak. But it's been something that I've been working through of therapy and just self work and trying to find my voice in situations because I deserve to be heard too, and it's something I've had to, like, teach myself. But yeah, it's just been kind of stepping into myself more as a person, and I feel like I'm able to speak in rooms now.
Laura Lee
Well, hearing you is the best. It does. It's. It's the best.
Manny Mua
I can see it.
Laura Lee
Yeah.
Manny Mua
Like, we were watching, and I'm like, oh, my God.
Laila Taylor
I literally see so much growth. Thank you so much.
Manny Mua
I'm so impressed.
Laila Taylor
Thank you.
Manny Mua
Genuinely.
Laila Taylor
That means a lot.
Laura Lee
What is you and Demi's relationship like now? Is it the same?
Laila Taylor
No, I feel like we're cordial. Okay. Yeah. Like, I feel like ending season three when we had that little, like, kumbaya that we all kind of, like, sat down, I feel like I could see her for a human, and she makes mistakes and she makes errors. However, I'm not going to have a deep relationship with somebody that makes those type of errors. I think that she was willing to throw a best friend under the bus. Who the hell am I? She would do it to me too. And I think I've just learned with finding myself and finding my voice that, like, my peace is also worth protecting. And I just don't think that I can find peace with somebody like Demi, unfortunately, in my life.
Laura Lee
How hard was it whenever she went in to hug you, just to hold back and just, like, not give her the courtesy hug? Just the courtesy hug to be cordial. Like, how hard was that for you, because I think you had to do it twice and like, really let her know.
Laila Taylor
Yeah, it was hard, I feel like, because I just. I don't know, I don't want to be mean. Like, she did like awful things, but it's still like not in character of me to like completely just like shut someone up and be like off, you know, it's just not my personality. So I was gonna like, at least hear her out. I feel like everyone deserves to at least share their side of situation. So I wanted to hear her out. But then it's like when she starts to come with the hostility and the name calling and calling me a dumbass, and I'm like, hey, like, we can't even have a civil conversation without you taking digs at my character. Which first of all, you have no right to do when I'm telling you about the things that you're doing right now. And then you're gonna come at me crazy, crazy. You're gonna say, I'm not a bad friend, but the things that you just did to Jesse is a good friend. I just.
Manny Mua
It's like you're just being calm. Yeah. You're calmly speaking and then it's just like, name. Yeah. And it's like, girl, what are we doing? We're literally having a cordial conversation. Exactly. I think that's a guilty.
Laila Taylor
Yeah. When you react out of anger to something, again, when someone's talking too level headed and then you start getting, you're the guilty one, it's not me. Yeah, Very defensive. Deflecting. That's what she does. It's unfortunate.
Laura Lee
What did you think when you saw Demi across the room from a party hitting her pelvic saying, did you. I mean, like, girl, that was shocking. Did you enjoy him?
Laila Taylor
Yeah.
Laura Lee
So Jesse, like, what are you girls thoughts? Seeing her behave like this, it was embarrassing.
Laila Taylor
Honestly, I feel like we were at an event too that all these influencers out and I feel like, like already when you're on reality tv, I feel like you have like a negative connotation around you that you're like, you're crazy. You're trash. You're on trash tv. So then when she's doing that, I'm like, dude, like, you're furthering that narrative that like, I don't think any of us, like, would love to have.
Laura Lee
I haven't seen any of y' all act like that until that.
Laila Taylor
It was shocking. Very shocking. And then obviously Jesse got very upset, which rightfully. So, what the hell are you doing right now to Me.
Manny Mua
She literally was like, jesse from the Bronx.
Laila Taylor
No, I was gonna say, I know we had to hold her back.
Manny Mua
The thing is, I just love her so much. I'm just like, yeah, I know.
Laila Taylor
We were like.
Manny Mua
Like, that was me.
Laila Taylor
I love it.
Laura Lee
Do you think hands would have been thrown without you girls intervening?
Laila Taylor
You're like, honestly, maybe. I feel like Jesse's small, but I feel like she could get feisty.
Laura Lee
If she's feisty.
Manny Mua
Yeah, she can get feisty down. I know she can. I can just feel it in her. It's in her soul.
Laila Taylor
I wish, honestly, I would have been.
Laura Lee
Like, yeah.
Laila Taylor
Come back.
Laura Lee
Lila's like, stop, don't.
Laila Taylor
I'm like, stop. Don't.
Manny Mua
You're. Stop.
Laila Taylor
I'm like, do you need help?
Manny Mua
An elbow drive in. Tag me, tag me, tag me.
Laila Taylor
Cuz who you call a know.
Manny Mua
Exactly. Wait, so I have a question too. So I also grew up lds, so I'm really curious if you're still, like, an active member, what do you think about the LDS Church? Are you, like, what's happening with LDS ch for you? Like, what do you think?
Laila Taylor
So, no, not active. I honestly haven't been active since I got divorced. My ex, he was big into it. He still is. He takes my kids on Sundays and stuff. Just not for me. I got baptized when I was 16, and I was very naive and young, and I. You know, when you get missionary lessons, they tell you the bare minimum.
Laura Lee
Yeah.
Laila Taylor
They tell you what you need to know to kind of get. It's hard. It's like, I don't want to, like, talk crap on the church. Like, they tell you what you need to get you, you know.
Laura Lee
Yeah.
Laila Taylor
To convince you to get baptized. And then I finally got to an age that I started to do my own research, and I was like, ooh. Like, I don't love that. And I don't love that. So there's a lot of things that I don't align with personally, and I just. It's not right for me. I have respect for the church, though. It got me through a really dark time in my life. I was dealing with a lot of, you know, mental health issues and suicide and things like that that, like, were really hard for me. And I feel like it kind of gave me hope when I needed it the most, but I just. Yeah, I couldn't see myself in it long term.
Laura Lee
You mentioned lightly on the show is, like, in passing conversation, the girls that you would, like prefer not to date someone again in the Mormon Church, like, and not repeat that. History does that kind of still stand in how you yeah, no.
Laila Taylor
Or my boyfriend Mason. He grew up a member and he served a mission, all the things, but he hasn't. I. I don't know, I can't speak for him, but I think he has been active for now for like a year or two or something like that. So he's the same as me that like, yeah, we have like upbringings in it, but I don't think I would ever date somebody that actively goes every Sunday. It's just like I don't want to fake it anymore and I feel like that's what I used to do in a lot of my relationships because I feel like I needed to. But the right person, you don't need to fake it for you know they'll love you how you are.

Laura Lee
You have a boyfriend Mason now, but when you were single in Utah Is it hard to find a Mormon man? Is it hard to find a non active in the church Mormon man in Utah?
Laila Taylor
Honestly, no. You would think so. Yeah, but I feel like there's actually a lot of people that recently have been, like, stepping away from the church or, like, aren't as active anymore. I feel like it's kind of like a big turnover right now, which, I mean, probably for the best. Yeah. But, you know, I. But yeah, you can find people that aren't. But also I feel like you find people that are, like, in the middle, that they're like. Sometimes they go on Sundays totally. To, like, save face. I don't know. It's. You can find them, though, for sure.
Manny Mua
It also just depends too. Like, whatever. Like, people can act the way that they want to. Like, you can be. You can be a member and not go all the time.
Laila Taylor
Yeah.
Manny Mua
Like, you can just do whatever you want to do.
Laila Taylor
I think it's the level too. I just, like, my issue is more of just like, the people that do it to save face.
Manny Mua
Yeah, totally.
Laila Taylor
And then, like, to your face, they're like, oh, like, I don't agree with these things. But then they're like, having sex and stuff. I'm like, dude, just like. Like, stop. You know?
Manny Mua
Yes.
Laila Taylor
It's okay.
Laura Lee
Switching subjects a little bit. How did you feel about Whitney only being on momtop again to get in Dancing with the Stars?
Manny Mua
Because you auditioned for it.
Laila Taylor
Yeah.
Manny Mua
Like you were going out for it. Yeah.
Laila Taylor
No, you're like, that situation was interesting. And honestly, now looking back, I think it was for her to save, like, her feelings. I think that she genuinely does care a lot, a lot about all of us women. And I think that her last kind of experience around all of us was, you know, all of us were mad at her and, like, not in best place. And I feel like, you know, you do what you need to do to kind of like, save your feelings at the end of the day. And I feel like that's what she did. Trying on, like, a strong front, like, only here for business guys. But then naturally you'll start to see, like, friendships start to rekindle and things like that. And I feel like me and Whitney are in a really, really good place right now, and I would consider, for us, really good friends. So. Yeah, I feel like she said that at first just kind of like. Like, if I do end up getting hurt, then I only came here for business, so it's okay, you know, Girl.
Manny Mua
We'Ve all done it. Yeah, we've all done that. I have a question too. Like, do. Do you have any, like, you know, as someone who grew up, like, you're not grew up lds, but, like, who Was lds, like, do you have advice that you would give, like, to LDS women that, like, might feel like they're trapped in, like, a little box or they have these expectations? Do you have any advice that you could give, like, overarchingly to them that, like. Like, you know, that you feel.
Laila Taylor
Yeah, I think just trust your gut and your intuition. I feel like they never lie to you. And if something feels wrong and if you're not aligning with something, listen to that. Take time away from it. Take, like, take a step back, you know, and try it out day by day. Don't. You don't have to jump full force into, like, leaving the church, but, like, try some things out, you know, Life is so short, and I feel like a lot of women have been in the church for a long time, and men, and it almost defines them in a way, because it's like, their identity, they're a part of it for so long that they're like, what's life outside of the church? How would I even, like, take that step to, like, leave it? And it's day by day. It doesn't have to be a big jump. You can start out small and just see what feels right, you know?
Laura Lee
Totally. I thought it was really amazing because throughout the past two seasons, you've received a lot of criticism about, quote, unquote, being whitewashed. And then your hair. They've talked about your hair a lot because they're always filming in Jesse's salon and she does everybody's hair, and you got a lot of criticism for that. So this season, reason we got to see that switch up. How is your hair now thriving?
Laila Taylor
It's actually doing really good. Amazing. Thank you. No, I'm really excited. It's been. I didn't realize how empowering it would be for me to finally kind of embrace that part of myself, because for the long span of time, I didn't have really a good connection with it. And I grew up in a very predominantly white area in Arizona, and I wasn't raised around that side of myself. So it's like when I get comments like, oh, you're whitewashed. I'm not whitewashed. I'm just a product. My environment. I can't control that. And now I'm trying to, at the age of 24, kind of embrace that part of myself and try different hairstyles and go to hairstylists that know how to, like, properly handle my hair. It takes time, you know, it's not going to be like a jump. But also I can be myself and not have to be put into a box. And I feel like that's the most important part. Like, I can be black and white. I don't need to be either or. I'm both.
Laura Lee
Wow. That's really powerful.
Laila Taylor
Thank you.
Laura Lee
That is.
Manny Mua
What was your first reaction when you. You were getting comments like that in season one? Like, was it something that shocked you? Did you ever even think. And there was a world when people would say that you were right. Watched, like, was that just kind of, like, a shock? What did you think?
Laila Taylor
No, I feel like I've gotten it before, but I just, like, I never really understood to the level that they're saying. I was just like, guys, I'm just, like, being me. Like, I just. I don't. I don't really understand where that, like, phrase came from, because I feel like it's almost not okay to say the opposite. Like, what would be me acting too black? You know, I feel like both ways are not okay to say. And I feel like we kind of need to drop that stigma that you need to act a certain way just because you're a race. I feel like you can just be who you want to be. It doesn't matter.
Laura Lee
You know, I know you were nervous, you know, because Jesse's really going through this season. You're like, by the way, you're not doing my hair anymore. Babe, I know you were nervous, but I feel like she took it really well. And you're still not using her for hair right Anymore?
Laila Taylor
I use Jay Z's. These are Jay Z extensions.
Laura Lee
Love it.
Laila Taylor
So I will always try to find my ways to support her. I love her shampoo. I love her conditioner. I just think ultimately, like, the way that it was installed didn't work for my hair texture, and that's okay. And I feel like with time, maybe Jesse can look more into education working with ethnic hair, and maybe she can expand that. And I would love to come back at some point, but for right now, I kind of needed to prioritize.
Laura Lee
Me. Yeah.
Laila Taylor
And my hair health. And it wasn't anything personal. I think Jesse's so talented at hair. It was just. I kind of had to take a step back just for myself.
Laura Lee
Good for you.
Manny Mua
That's amazing.
Laura Lee
Part of stepping into your power, too, and doing what you need to do and what's right for you. And so I think that's amazing. I think she took the news really, really well. But, you know, she's professional. She. She knows.
Laila Taylor
Yes, she knows.
Manny Mua
She knows. She knows it.
Laila Taylor
Yeah.
Manny Mua
And you guys have been friends for so long at this point, it's like girly. If I can't tell you the truth, who the am I going to?
Laila Taylor
Exactly?
Manny Mua
100%. We have some like little rapid fire questions that we wanted to ask you that were just kind of like cutesy bite size, like, you know, adorable, like easy, but also like spicy.
Laila Taylor
Oh, wait.
Manny Mua
You know what I'm saying for it's kind of like. So, for example, who's your favorite mom talk member?
Laura Lee
Ooh, can't be you.
Laila Taylor
Can't be me.
Manny Mua
Other than yourself, of course.
Laila Taylor
Self love.
Manny Mua
I know.
Laila Taylor
Miranda. She's my best friend.
Manny Mua
I can't love that. I want to see more Miranda in the show.
Laura Lee
I feel like I don't see enough of Miranda.
Laila Taylor
Like, I don't know her. She is seriously one of those funniest, funny. Is that even word funniest?
Laura Lee
It is funny today.
Laila Taylor
She's hilarious. She has so much depth to her. And I'm just. I'm really hoping the audience can see more of her soon.
Laura Lee
Yeah, we need more Miranda. I don't know her. I like her. And all the way all of you like her and the way she's very like mature about all the situations.
Laila Taylor
Yeah, she is like our level headed queen. I feel like she could just see scenarios from so many different perspectives before kind of like firing off things. And that's something that some of the girls in the group not lack. I feel like it's a great thing too to be like fiery, but she just kind of like absorbs situations before she speaks. And I think it's an amazing quality to have. So.
Manny Mua
Yeah, that honestly comes with a full frontal development of that lobe.
Laila Taylor
Yeah, like 19. Some of us are 30 and we're.
Manny Mua
Still working on develops some point.
Laila Taylor
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Manny Mua
Your least favorite member.
Laila Taylor
Oh, God.
Manny Mua
Totally. I mean, after watch, now that I've watched the whole season, I'm like, is.
Laura Lee
It crazy for you guys? Because like, season one, Demi was my favorite.
Laila Taylor
I know. I feel like she was everyone's favorite.
Manny Mua
She was my favorite too.
Laila Taylor
But you know what, we've talked about this actually after season one came out, I feel like Demi's always been like this. Now that people are finally being like, oh, we don't like to meet me as a mean girl. I feel like she coded it with Bunny. Season one. Okay. Remember, like in the closet with Whitney.
Manny Mua
Yes. That was mean.
Laila Taylor
That's mean. But she did it in a funny way. So I feel like everyone almost like.
Manny Mua
When he's bawling her eyes out.
Laila Taylor
So I feel like for a Long time. We've always been aware of, like, that Demi's not always been the nicest, but she does it funny. So you're like, oh, it's fine. It's not a big deal.
Laura Lee
Pass.
Laila Taylor
Yeah. So I think she's always been like this. We just kind of Rose colored glasses, season one.
Laura Lee
Were you guys getting to know Demi yourselves?
Laila Taylor
Yeah. I didn't know to me before this experience took off, the only women that I knew before was Macy, Michaela, Miranda, Taylor, Whitney. So I met Demi when we started doing this experience. And yeah, you're getting to know somebody on national tv. Obviously you're not gonna like, fully see all sides of them and understand, like the depth of some of the decisions they do until it comes out. So. Yeah. But yeah, so I feel like she's always been like this. We just weren't.
Laura Lee
She was not a part of last year's reunion. Were you guys. Did you guys know that or were you shocked?
Laila Taylor
No, we found out the day of that she wasn't gonna come. Yeah.
Manny Mua
Oh, God. This ad is brought to you by Vive Healthcare, the makers of Apertude Cabotegravir.
Laura Lee
You never skip your SPF and you carry hand sanitizer like an accessory. But what are you doing for HIV prevention? One way to help protect yourself from HIV is apertude, a prescription medicine used to reduce the risk of getting HIV in adults and adolescents weighing at least 77 pounds.
Manny Mua
You must be HIV negative to receive aperitude and get tested before each injection. If you think you are exposed to HIV or have flu like symptoms, tell your doctor right away. More HIV testing may be needed. Aperitude does not prevent other sexually transmitted infections. Practice safer sex to reduce your risk. Get aperitude as scheduled. Missing doses increases your HIV risk. Don't take apertude if allergic to it or taking certain medicines that may interact. Tell your doctor about your medical conditions, liver problems and mental health health. Serious side effects include allergic reactions or rash, liver problems and depression. If these occur, get medical help right away. The most common side effect is injection site reaction.
Laura Lee
Bring your A game and talk to your doctor. Learn more@appertude.com or call 1-888-240-0340.
Laila Taylor
Because like, we knew that she took a step back from filming, obviously, but really, like, I don't know, we're all supposed to be here. It's like, this is our job. We're supposed to show up. So it's just kind of. It's giving cowardly.
Laura Lee
Absolutely. What did you think about her instead of doing the reunion, which is a part of her job. Skipping out and going to spill her tea on the biofiles.
Laila Taylor
Very interesting. Yeah. Yeah. Especially when she wasn't sharing the full truth to situations and things like that. I don't know. I just think if you're gonna have the balls to go into podcasts and talk, have the balls to show up to the reunion.
Laura Lee
Do it to everybody's face.
Manny Mua
Yeah.
Laila Taylor
Cannot agree more.
Manny Mua
Yep. What is your least and most favorite thing about living in Utah?
Laila Taylor
Least? Probably lack of diversity. I feel like even for, like, my children, I would love for them to see more, you know, and just kind of experience more cultures and just different things. I feel like, again, that's probably why I got called whitewashes, because I had very big lack of that.
Laura Lee
Yeah.
Laila Taylor
So I feel like just being able to. Yeah. Have them see more cultures and try different foods and just listen to different music. I don't know. I feel like it'd be good for them. So that for sure. Favorite. It's beautiful.
Manny Mua
It's gorgeous.
Laila Taylor
It's gorgeous. It's. If you just look at the mountains and take out everything else, like, stun.
Laura Lee
Incredible.
Manny Mua
Yeah.
Laila Taylor
Yeah.
Manny Mua
I love that.
Laura Lee
Any more rappy fire?
Manny Mua
I sure do. Have you, since you talked about it, had an orgasm?
Laila Taylor
Yes. My handy dandy vibrator.
Manny Mua
I love it. Sometime you got to figure it out yourself.
Laila Taylor
Yeah.
Laura Lee
Season two? Wasn't that season two or was that season one?
Laila Taylor
Yeah, but everyone thought it was Cameron that gave me it and. No. You think he would give me one?
Laura Lee
Clear it up, honey.
Laila Taylor
It was a good old vibrator that.
Laura Lee
Wow.
Manny Mua
Okay. I love that. I love that you, like, discard that for yourself. It wasn't like someone else doing something.
Laila Taylor
Honestly, I kind of loved having it be a moment to myself because I feel like it was like very. Like I took that power back, you know, and just like it was a fun moment.
Manny Mua
Out of body. Some.
Laila Taylor
I'd say. Yeah.
Manny Mua
What is your swig order? If you order from swig.
Laila Taylor
Okay. I used to be the biggest Mountain Dew fan ever.
Manny Mua
Really?
Laila Taylor
I was addicted. I would drink a 44 ounce Mountain Dew every single day. But then I would add strawberry syrup.
Laura Lee
Okay.
Laila Taylor
Mango syrup and then coconut cream.
Laura Lee
So it was like a cocktail.
Manny Mua
Yeah.
Laila Taylor
But so much sugar. I didn't realize I was looking up the calories in it. One day, I think it like added up to like 900, like 80. And I would drink that every single day. But Sundays, because they're not open on Sundays. So that was like my. My healthy day. But No, I was starting to be like, oh, I'm literally gonna die at 40 if I don't like cut this off. So now I've been getting water with lemon.
Manny Mua
Wow.
Laura Lee
I know you crazy. No, I love water.
Laila Taylor
I know because it. I kind of can't drink just plain water because there's something wrong with me. So I have to add something I love. A little healthy.
Laura Lee
Do you still drink your Sodi in any way? I've never heard of anyone addicted to Mountain Dew. I'm addicted to Dr. Pepper. Really?
Laila Taylor
No. I was oh so bad. I. If I drink soda, I'll do like a Sprite here and there. But I'm not a big unless it was Mountain Dew. So I'm just happy I got cured from that.
Laura Lee
Yeah.
Laila Taylor
Holy hell.
Manny Mua
Oh. I was like, that would Diet Coke. I was an absolute addict.
Laura Lee
So good he got cured.
Manny Mua
Okay, so what is another thing? What is the best and the worst thing about being on reality television?
Laila Taylor
Best. I feel like you get to connect with your audience by sharing really vulnerable things. I feel like there's hard things that we share and like in future seasons you'll see more things as well from like me. And it's hard and it's scary because you're like, you're gonna get judgment but also you could be helping one person. And I feel like that's what I love is that I'll get like one DM from a girl. Especially when I on the reunion I shared a lot about like my self harm journey and me suffering from depression and things. And I had so many DMs of girls being like, thank you you, like I have those scars in my body too and like I'm so embarrassed of them. But like thank you for like showing yours and like being open about it. So just being able to help one person, I feel like means the world to me. Worst part, it's kind of like a double edge short. I love working with my best friends because it's so cool that I get to show up to work every day and I get to see my besties. But then it sucks when you're fighting with them. So that for sure because then, you know, you don't get to deal with it in private and like kind of like work it out. Like you're working it out in front of a TV or not in front of tv on front of a camera on tv. And it's hard because then people nitpick everything. So yeah, that's hard.
Laura Lee
Totally.
Manny Mua
I for the people that are watching and are wondering how real is the show so real. How real is the show? Because, you know, people watch to be like, reality TV is, like, script. No, scripted.
Laila Taylor
I wish our show was scripted. I wish our show was fake. It's honestly, I feel like one of the most authentic reality shows you can watch. And, I mean, makes damn good tv. But there's moments that I'm like, guys, I don't think we could fake this. Like, how could we make up these situations in these scenarios? Like, they're so real, and it sucks because it's like, you have to see me go through this. So. But I mean, again, good tv.
Laura Lee
Who do you trust the most in mom talk?
Laila Taylor
Miranda.
Laura Lee
Love that. Yeah, I know.
Manny Mua
It's just so cute to me because you never see her. So I'm like, any Miranda. Like, Laura.
Laila Taylor
I'm like, oh, I know.
Manny Mua
I'm just so happy to hear it.
Laila Taylor
I know. I love her so much. I'm really. I'm hoping in future seasons you guys see more of her. She is seriously such a gem.
Laura Lee
I love that. I'm obsessed with that. Is there anything else you want to share from this season three of Secret Lives and Mormon Wives?
Laila Taylor
No, I'm just excited for you guys to see more and more. If you think this is good, it's just gonna keep getting better.
Laura Lee
Wow.
Manny Mua
I honestly feel that I sort of. This is my favorite season of all the seasons so far, which is crazy.
Laila Taylor
Normally, reality shows start to almost plateau.
Laura Lee
Yes.
Manny Mua
Yes.
Laila Taylor
And they're like, oh, this is getting dry every time. More and more just keeps coming.
Manny Mua
No. And literally, I'm like, so good. Oh, my gosh. To me, it's literally just going like this.
Laila Taylor
I know, I know.
Manny Mua
And, like, the next one, I'm already, like, so stoked and ready. I'm like, this. Like, when we were watching the screeners, I was like, telling her, I'm like, like, man, this is the best homework I've ever had.
Laura Lee
This is our homework to watch. Get the show watched before you come on.
Manny Mua
And we were like.
Laura Lee
We were like, this.
Laila Taylor
You're like, homework wear.
Laura Lee
Yeah. Yeah.
Manny Mua
It was amazing. We. We have had so much fun having you on, and we appreciate you coming on. We're so proud of you in this season. And genuinely, when we text about it, we were like, wow. Like, she's incredible. And, like, it's so nice to see you really come into your own and really find your own power. And it's an amazing, amazing thing. And I love that it's like. Like, you see yourself on it, and you're like, I'm gonna be better than that.
Laila Taylor
Yeah.
Manny Mua
You know, because there's times when we have things and I'm like, I know I could do better than that. And it's like you see yourself and you're like, I can be better than this.
Laila Taylor
Yeah. It's hard, but it's also awesome because you're able to work on yourself.
Laura Lee
So, yeah, in retrospect, yeah, totally. Well, we think you're amazing. Thank you. We love seeing more of you this season and hearing more from you. You're a total badass.
Laila Taylor
Thank you.
Laura Lee
