A
This has to be top three John Legend songs of all time. It's absolutely gorgeous. Here we go.
B
What would I do without your smart mouth drawing me in and you kicking me out Got my head spinning. No kidding I can't pin you down. What's going on that beautiful mind? I'm on your magical mystery ride and I'm so dizzy. Don't know what hit me but I'll be all right. My head's under water but I'm breathing fine. You're crazy and I'm out of my mind. Cause all of me love loves all of you. Love your curves and all edges. All your perfect imperfections. Give your all to me. I'll give my all to you. You're mine and my beginning. Even when I lose I'm winning. Cause I give you all.
A
Of.
B
You. Give me all.
C
Of you.
B
Oh, how many times do I have to tell you? Even when you're crying, you're beautiful too. The world is beating you down. I'm around through every mood. You're my downfall, you're my muse, my worst distraction. My rhythm and blues. I can't stop singing it's ringing in my head for you. My head's underwater but I'm breathing fine. You're crazy and I'm out of my mind. Cause all of me loves all of you. Love curves and all edges. All your perfect imperfections. Give your all to me. I'll give my all to you. You're mine and my beginning. Even when I lose, I'm winning. Cause I give you all.
C
Of me.
B
And you give me all.
C
Of you.
B
Oh, give me all of you. Cards on the table in both showing hearts, risking it although it's hard. Cause all of me I've saw a few. Love your curves and all your edges. All your perfect imperfections. Give your all to me. I'll give my all to you. You're my end and my beginning. Even when I lose I'm winning. Cause I give you all.
C
To me.
B
And you give me all of you. I give you all of me.
D
And.
B
You give me all.
A
Of you.
B
Oh.
A
Steven Strong. You're all in my all are not the same. They're not the same. You gave your all and it was absolutely phenomenal. And I cried. I cried. Joe Rubin.
D
I'll bet you did. Like, it was a cry worthy song like that. You know, if you show up to karaoke and everyone's drunk singing and then he shows up and bust out a song like that and everyone cries. It's like everyone's like, damn, I his Voice is great.
A
That was like, I don't need to karaoke anymore.
C
We're good.
A
I mean, I'm good.
D
Hanging up my microphone.
A
Just over.
D
Hang it up.
A
Let's just take these off, you know, shore microphones. Thanks for the sponsorship.
D
Appreciate it.
A
One and done. One and done. That was all of me, John Legend. And that is how we are kicking off the very first podcast of 2025. This is already like, it's 2024. That's the theme.
D
And I like that theme. Why? Why is it the theme? Explain it.
A
Well, it's so in the Friday night karaoke Facebook group, you know, you go to Facebook, type in Friday night karaoke. We're there, 36,000 members. So awesome. And everyone's posting up all their songs, negativity free. And we have these themes every week, and then every week we pick a winner. It's like there's a very low key, fun way to do things and just keep. And this theme for this podcast is just a recap of 2024. We picked, I think it was nine of the winners or eight of the. It's eight of the winners over the past year. So, you know, the weekly winners. We picked eight. And we are going to be playing for them. Them for you here today. And we're super excited about it. And what a great way to start. We started strong with Steven. Strong.
D
We did. And you know what? We're like, what is today? January 3rd or something like that is the 2nd. What day is today?
A
Depends on where you are in the world. In the future. In Tokyo, it is the third.
D
All right, so for. To me, it's yesterday or something. And we're. I mean, we're starting off early because we're pretty much, we're slackers when it comes to doing a show, you know.
A
Like, you know, we're the worst.
D
So this is good.
A
It's a good sign to all of you who are listening because some, for some reason, you like listening to us even when we don't put out a new podcast episode. Whoa, he's moving.
D
Dude, your Transformer is crazy.
A
But. But Megatron's moving and thank God he didn't fall. But yeah. So anyway, I am Mike Winston. I am the co host and co founder of the Friday Night Karaoke Podcast and the Friday Night Karaoke Facebook group.
D
And I am Joe Rubin with the same exact title. And this is our first episode since Halloween.
A
We're.
D
We're excited to be back.
A
But as I was saying before, somehow magically, we, we've kind of, you Know, dominated. Not dominated, but we stayed, like, the top 30 top.
D
I think we're like, yeah, we're in the. We're in the higher double digits. You know, it's been a while, bro.
A
We haven't released a new episode. Episode in forever.
D
But we're back. We're back.
A
We are.
D
We're back.
A
We're back. Like that pesky case of herpes. That rash on your ass.
D
Gotta put some FnK cream on that, man.
A
Yep. This is gonna be episode number 68. We're in season three, technically, episode six of the Friday night karaoke podcast. As we mentioned, this theme is party. Like, it's 2024, and we're going to be playing some awesome music from the Friday night karaoke community. Winners of the weekly themes.
D
Right on.
A
And we started with Steven Strong. All of me. A little John Legend. You know, it took him just three takes to record that song. If I recorded that song 500 times, not a single one of them would be postworthy.
D
Wait, wait, I'm sorry. So it took Stephen Strong three takes to record that takes. Okay.
A
Or that cover of.
D
That's. Oh, it's great.
A
Yeah, yeah. He's like. Honestly? And he's like, yeah, I wasn't digging it, so I just went with the last one. I'm like, okay.
D
I'm surprised it took him that many takes.
A
I'll take your bad day any day.
D
You know.
A
That'S awesome. So coming up next. Coming up next, because we got, you know, eight amazing artists for you today.
D
Wait, wait, hold on, hold on, hold on. Sorry. Remember we did that pirate song and we just couldn't hit it, and we kept doing the real shots, and we, like, take, like, nine, and we just trashed. Oh, my God. Dude. All right, sorry.
A
We'Re gonna talk about later, but we have the karaoke event coming up in order.
D
Talk about later.
A
You and I should a thousand percent do that song. Oh, my God, A thousand percent. We have to do that song.
D
All right.
A
Because pirate theme.
D
I'm in.
A
So perfect. And we need jugs of rum. So coming up next, we have. I love this song. It's a great start to the year. And it's an overplayed song for sure, but it's overplayed because it's freaking awesome. This is gonna be smash mouth. A little all star from Mike Tahir.
D
Nice.
A
Give it a listen.
E
She was looking kind of dumb With a finger and a thumb in the shape of an L on her forehead well, the ear stops coming and they don't stop coming Fed to the rules and ain't the ground running. Did it make sense not to live for fun? Your brain gets small but your head gets dumb. So much to do, so much to see. So what's wrong with taking the back streets? You never know if you don't go, you never shine if you don't glow. Hey now you're an all star. Get your game on, go play now. Yo, roster. Get the show on, get pain and all that glitters is gone. Only shooting stars break the mo. It's a cool place and they say it gets colder. You're bottled up now, wait till you get older. But the media man begs to differ. Judging by the hole on the satellite picture. The ice we skate is getting pretty thin. The water's getting warm so you might as well swim. The world's on fire. How about yours? That's the way I like it. And I never get bored. Hey now, you're an all star. Get your game on, go play. Hey now, you're rock star. Get the show on, get paid and all that glitters is gone. Only shooting star break the movie.
C
All right.
E
Hey now, you're an all star. Get your game on, go play now you're a rock star. Get the show on, get paid and.
A
All that glitters is gone.
E
Only shoot it.
A
Stop.
E
Somebody. Could I spare some chains for gas? I need to get myself away from this place. Well, I'm saying yeah. What a concept. I could use a little fuel myself. And we could all use a little change.
C
Wow.
E
The ears stop coming and they don't stop coming. Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running. Did it make sense not to live for fun? Your brain gets boggled, your head gets dumb. So much to do, so much to see. So what's wrong with taking the factories? You never know if it don't go ow, you better shine it on glow. Hey now, you're an all star. Get your game on, go play now you're a rock star. Get the show on, get paid and.
F
All that glitters is gone.
E
Only shooting star to break the mo. And all that glitters is.
C
Go on.
E
Only shooting stars break the mo.
A
You're the all Star. Mike Tahir. You're the All Star dude.
D
I like that. You know why? Because, like, he started off just normal, singing it by the end of that song. Like, he just built it up and built up. By the end of that song, he was a full on rock star. He just kept getting more and more into it with every line. It was. It was. It was great. I loved it.
A
The awesome thing about singing and karaoke, like, you know, especially if you're not feeling it, you know, you just kind of start the night off, and you're there, and you're just like, I want our own.
D
Want to be here.
A
You know, like, you're just, like, in that mood, and then you finally get, you know, go up to the mic, and it's your turn. You have to play your song. You go to your go to, and you just start going. And then all of a sudden, like, you see everyone else and you feel it, and you're, like, in it, you hear your own voice, and you're like, I love this song. I love singing this song. I love all of you.
D
But he was doing it karaoke to his phone, so he was just like, I love me.
G
I'm great.
D
And, like, he just kept getting better and better. I loved it.
A
Good enough. You're smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like you. Mike Tahir with All Star from Smash Mouth and I. That was a December 6th win. So that was actually pretty. Pretty recent. All right, A month ago.
D
Very nice.
A
And that was for FnK wonder one hit wonders.
D
Where's that one hit wonder?
A
Yeah, I mean, name another Smash Mouth song that was popular, like. Like a hit. Popular. Oh, yeah, exactly. Just All Star.
D
No, no, no. That. Another one.
A
No way. Yeah, not, like, popular enough to be a, like, billboard, you know, like, considered, like, an actual hit. All right, I see gears turning.
D
I'll look it up. I'll look it up when we go to commercial.
A
Crickets. And it's gone.
D
All right, maybe it was.
A
I use the tumbleweed button. Button. So nobody heard it.
D
Oh, nice. Nice. All right, who's next? Dude?
A
So that again, Mike's a here All Star. I love actually singing that song at karaoke because everyone knows the words.
D
Everyone knows the words.
A
You know, going back to, like, live karaoke, that's one of the best things. When you aren't sure what to sing. Just sing a song that everybody knows, because everyone will sing it for you. They'll just sing together. And honestly, at karaoke, you know, those are the best. Like, you know, it's one thing to have, like, a ton of talent and just be, like, a, you know, just a phenomenal singer, which, you know, there are a few people for sure, are just truly phenomenal. But, you know, for most of us, myself very much included, it is far more fun when you just get everybody going in and singing along with you and, you know, just.
D
It is the best. It is the best. When you're on stage and everybody's singing along with you. It's rock star level. It's great.
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah. When you did Mr. Brightside on stage with like 250 people and a live band behind you, that was great.
D
That was the most fun I ever had on stage.
A
I've never seen your face more happy.
D
I know. It was the most fun I've ever had on stage.
A
It was.
D
It was the best.
A
You literally got off stage and you just, you know, ready to go to the locker room and bring groupies. You're like, you, you, you, all of you. What do you want?
D
Who are you again?
A
Listen to my pod, right? All right, who's up next? We. We have a pretty long time member of the Friday night karaoke community. We say that all the time, but we have.
D
Yeah.
A
The Friday night karaoke has been around for what, four years now?
D
Four years now.
A
Yeah, four years. So long time members are aplenty out of the 36, 000 that are currently gracing our feed or whatever. But this is Bonnie Rochelle. She's been contributing for a long time. She is absolutely phenomenal. She's won multiple themes over the years and she's been featured on the podcast before. Absolutely phenomenal singer all around. She'll actually be singing this one with herself, similar to the way Mike Tahir recorded his. And this is going to be the Beatles with I want to hold your hand. All right, give it a listen.
H
Oh, yeah. Tell you something I think you'll understand when I say that something I wanna.
A
Hold your hand.
H
I wanna hold your hand I wanna hold your hand oh, please say to me you'll let me be your man and please say to me you let me hold your hand now let hold your hand I wanna hold your hand and when I touch you I feel happy inside.
I
It'S such.
H
A feeling that my love I can't hide I can't hide, I can't hide yeah, you got that something I think you'd. When I say that something I wanna.
G
Hold your hand.
H
I wanna hold your hand I wanna hold your hand.
A
And.
H
When I touch you I feel happy.
I
Inside.
H
It'S such a feeling that my love I can't hide I can't hide, I can't hide yeah, you got that something I think you'll understand when I feel that something I wanna hold your.
A
Hand.
H
I wanna hold your hand.
A
I.
H
Wanna hold your hand I wanna hold.
A
Your hand no, you got that something. Bonnie Rochelle, you got it.
D
Holy harmonies, those were great. She was spot on with Those harmonies.
A
Dude, I gotta tell you, one of my favorite things about that is the dedicated videos to this.
D
I do like that she had the clapping as a separate it full line that she just clapped through the song. That was. It was perfect.
A
Yeah, it really was. It was. It was phenomenal. And again, that was Bonnie Rochelle with I want to hold your hand by the Beatles. And that is from FNK misheard. So you know the part where they're like, I can't hide. I can't hide. You know that part? So she thought it says, I get high, I get high, I get high, which is the Beatles. It could be.
C
Be.
D
It could totally be. It may have been.
A
It may have been, you know, the original intent.
D
Yeah.
A
They have, like, Lucy in disguise with.
D
Diamonds, you know, I mean, I can't hide. It doesn't really make all that much sense, right?
A
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I can't hide from what?
D
I know. Like from your hand. Like, I don't understand, like, so I get high sounds actually better.
A
Yeah, maybe. I want to hold your hand. I can't hide.
D
I don't know.
A
You know what?
D
Yeah.
A
I don't want to. I want to analyze this.
D
I don't want to know.
A
I don't want to know. There's things I don't want to know. And this is one of them.
D
That's one of them.
A
But, you know, I do want to know. I want to hear that song often. That was really good because Nice job. Yeah, absolutely. You know, the Beatles is like one of those that, like, again, at live karaoke, you can never go wrong because everyone knows it. There's a couple of the slower ones that are a little bit harder to. To kind of pull off, you know, even though they're, you know, they're not, like, massively vocal or anything, but. Right. You know, they're just hard to pull off because everyone, you know, everyone connects with those songs so much. But, you know, there's plenty of them with, like, big choruses and stuff like that, and they're super fun to sing with lots of.
D
Oh, yeah, for sure.
A
So speaking of lots of people and singing with others.
D
Yeah.
A
We have that event coming up. You want to do we about it?
D
Yeah, you know, we do this every year. We go down to PodFest. It's this big podcasting conference. We're a podcast, and we like to go out to karaoke because, you know, we're fnk. So this is really cool place. It's called oh, shucks. It's right in Orlando, and we go there and we just bring a bunch of people and hang out and have drinks and food and karaoke all night and it's great. It's a lot of fun. I mean, I think I. I think I passed out there last year probably. Yeah. By the end of the night.
A
Yeah, we left there like 2:00am I think.
D
Yeah. 1:00 clock is my expiration date, so. Yeah, but before that I had a blast and I think everyone else did too.
A
If you actually go to the Friday night karaoke group again, just go to Facebook if you're not currently a member and type in Friday night karaoke and join the group. It's a closed group, so just answer the three little questions and you're in like Flynn baby. But once you join, just look in the featured section or the announcements and you'll see the announcement for the 16th of this month in Orlando at. Oh, shucks. And drinks, food, karaoke are all on us. Just for being part of the Friday night karaoke community, we would love to invite you there. So if you're local in Orlando, please go to the group and RSVP through the link on there again. You know, leave your wallet at home. Just bring.
D
No, no bring. No, bring your wallet. You won't get into the bar without your wallet.
A
Well, yeah, you need, you need.
D
But we'll buy you some drinks, we'll have some food there.
A
Yeah, but.
D
But yeah, it was. It's always a good time. So if you're in the area, definitely come. And it's been actually really cool. We've had a bunch of people show up to our karaoke's in the past, so a lot of folks from fnk.
A
Yeah. Can you make karaoke plural?
D
Sure. Karaoke's.
A
I just did that karaoke.
D
So it's good. If you're. If you're in the area, come. We'd love to hang out with you.
A
Yeah, absolutely. It's gonna be a blast. I think we have Tyler Turcotte. We've met. Yeah, Last year and Ed Canard and.
D
Y. Luke showed up last year and Isabelle and.
A
Yeah, those were in Texas, but yeah, it doesn't matter. Same thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
D
It's a thought.
A
Coming up next, we actually have a pretty. This is a little different for the group, but I thought it was a really good one to include here again. These are all winners of the weekly themes. This particular theme was FnK, my track where people are singing the kind of the songs or the. The soundtrack to their life or something that's, you know, deeply meaningful to them. And this particular member, he actually wrote his own own song and really recorded it for this. And obviously nothing more meaningful and deep to somebody than something that they wrote themselves. Cool. And it was just so different. This. I'm just putting some context here. This member also won an FnK Disney theme a while back for singing the Gaston song.
D
Oh, such a ridiculously good job.
A
Like, he had the Josh Gad part.
D
Like, yes, I remember this. I remember this one.
A
All right, so this is going to be Eric Cooper and his own original song called Limitless. Let's give it a listen.
I
Yo.
C
When I was younger I was scared of thunder. I used to wonder where we would slumber if the world were to sunder. I watched the lightning bolts crash. The rain was falling fast. I thought the worst is hit to come. But it had already passed. And yeah, the fear was crushing. And yes, the tears were gushing. But it was all for nothing. Cause that storm had taught me something. No matter how bad it gets, no matter what they say, what matters more is that it doesn't matter anyway. Tomorrow. Tomorrow might be brighter or darker than today. But at the end of it all, you'll still come out okay. A moment stretches on forever if you let it. Your best bet is to let it go and forget it. These momentary plights disappear in a moment's time. And yes, you will survive. That's why I wrote this rhyme. The night is always at its darkest just before the dawn. But sure enough the sun will rise and life will carry on. You're limitless. You heard of hell? Well, there's no need to fear it. There's Holy Spirit speaking to you. You just need to hear it. Don't lose your sense of hope. Your goal is clos you near it and every hurdle in your way you know you're clearing. You're limitless. You heard of hell, but there's no need to fear it. There's holy spirit speaking to you. You just need to hear it. Don't lose your sense of hope. Your goal is close, you know you're near it. And every hurdle in your way, you know you're clear it. When I was younger, I was diagnosed with a mental issue. Now I bet you wish you up the dosage. All this medication, my thoughts evaporating. Do not address it, just suppress it. Dull the aberration. Well guess what, people? I am no longer feeble. I'm 29. I'm higher than a church's steeple. And I cannot be equal. It's mind over matter. And that's a fraction of the reaction I get when crowds gather. Just take a lesson from me. Don't let nobody tell you what you can be. And if they try to, they can go to hell too. Cause you're better than the sum of all these broken parts. Get yourself together. Try to find the way to heal your heart. Just rise up. That's the phrase I follow. Because if you wallow, I sell you so a bottle. That's the same as giving up. And then you'll never win. So try again, hit the gas. Take another spin my friend. You're limitless. You heard a hell, but there's no need to fear it. There's holy spirit speaking to you. You just need to hear it. To lose your sense of hope. You go to slosh youh know you near it. And every hurdle in your way. You know you're clear it. You're limitless. You heard of hell? Well there's no need to fear it. There's holy spirit speaking to you. You just need to hear it. Don't lose your sense of hope. Your goal is closed. You know you're near it. And every hurdle in your way. You know you'll clear it. When I was younger, I was bullied daily. I figured maybe if I kept to myself, no one would hate me. People thought I was weak cause I was kinda meek. They called me weirdo and freak. But still I didn't speak. And in my spare time I work with words. Wrote stories first. Worked my way up preparing for the worst. But yet it never came. There wasn't any pain. In fact, the opposite happened. And everything changed. I went from stories to writing lyrics. There's a glory, the 16 bars and being fearless. When I showed the whole school the Eric Copper raps, Everybody changed that tune and began to clap. And as I took my vow, I was reminded how as you remoted me this heavy load. I should see. I wanted to fit in and be accepted by my peers. But all the sweat and tears have changed the goal I had for years. So if you shoot for something you better aim so high. It's like the old saying goes. Let's limit is the sky. And don't you dare start to cry. If you miss it, just take risk by the horns and friends kiss it. You're limitless. You heard of hell, but there's no need to fear it. There's holy spirit speaking to you. You just need to hear it. Don't lose your sense of hope. They go disclosure, don't get near it. And every hurdle in your way. You know you clear it. You're limitless. You heard of hell? Well, there's no need to fear it. There's holy spirit speaking to you. You just need to hear it. Don't. Your sense of hope. You go this close, you know you near it, and every hurdle in your way, you know you'll clear it.
A
Absolutely. Just phenomenal. I want to make a quick call out. I. I put up on the screen and I said, his name is Eric Cooper. It's actually Eric Copper. So I just wanted to correct that. But, dude, that was deep. That was a journey. That was phenomenal. And this was the guy who won for Gaston.
D
Holy. Dude, I did not have that on my karaoke bingo card for this evening. That, no, was. Holy crap.
A
That was an entire vibe. That was an entire vibe. That was. That. That was like. Like I said, a journey. It was a story, and I can tell it was a true story about him. And it. You know, I can. I can see why that is an FnK my track for him. I mean, this is.
C
Is.
A
This is something deeply personal. And he just absolutely rocked it as well, though. I mean, he. Like, it flowed so well, and, you know, it just came out very naturally. It wasn't nothing forced there. You know, I'm sure it was rehearsed, but, you know, it.
D
I'm sure he wrote the song. I'm sure he practiced it, but that was exactly. I mean, fantastic. Fantastic, dude.
A
And I just want to call out something else as we're playing his song here, and he doesn't know we're playing his song here.
C
Here.
A
We posted up in the Friday night karaoke group that we have this event coming up in Orlando. And like we just said, and please go to the group and sign up and all that.
D
Yeah.
A
And we literally just got a comment from Eric Copper. Oh, my God. An event I can actually go to.
D
Shut up. Oh, my God. He's gonna perform live in two weeks. Dude, I want to do a song.
A
With him so badly.
D
No, you don't. No, no, no, no, no, no, you don't. I want him to do the song and you to clap.
A
No, I want to do this while he's singing. I want to do this.
C
This.
D
Okay. Oh, you could be the little square in the box clapping.
A
I'm gonna pull a book, right. A page right. Of Bonnie Rell's book there.
D
Oh, my God, dude, that was great. Yeah, I would love to see him live.
A
So I didn't do the research. I'm sorry. So I'm not sure where you can go check out his original Content. But Eric Copper, the song is limitless. Go look it up. And, uh, just. Just absolutely phenomenal. Yeah.
D
And. And by the way, nice job getting back to your roots of up people's names, especially one is difficult as Copper.
A
Copper, Right. Well, I. You know what it triggered? He mentioned like, you know, his name was. He actually said his name in the. In the rap. And I'm like, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Copper is not.
D
That's how you pronounce it. Oh, man.
A
There's not two O's in Copper. And then I had to go and, like, take a look. I'm like, oh, I did that again. So just five more left. We can get through it. I do want to give a big shout out to our sponsors.
G
Sure.
A
Microphones. Sure. You sure are my favorite. Because your sound is so crystal clear.
D
You're my favorite too. I have it right here. But I up the thing in the back there, and now I'm using this one until I get it.
A
The moral of the story is don't up the thing in the back.
D
I know. Don't. Don't do that.
A
Yeah, no, unfortunately, you gotta. You gotta do your electronics. Well, or something. I don't know. Anyway, moving on.
D
Way to make that funny.
A
I'm a comedian, man.
D
Gotta. To your electronics. Well, well, yes, Eric Copper, I know.
A
You can't wait to do karaoke with me. I got jokes. I got jokes all day. Just wait. Give me the microphone. So I'm killing you all. Softly. But, Lauren, Greg is about to kill us softly with Killing Me Softly by the Fugees. Let's give it a listen and save me from this. Play it.
I
Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life in his words Killing me softly.
C
With.
I
His song I heard he sang a good song I heard he had stop and so I came to see him and list him for a while.
C
And.
I
There he was, this young boy a stranger to my eyes Drawing my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Tell him a whole lies in his words Killing me softly with his song I fell off flushed with fever Embarrassed by the crowd I felt he found my letters and Raou I pray that he would finish but he just kept right on string my playing with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with this song Killing me softly with his song Tell him whole life in his words Killing me softly with this Song.
A
Whoa.
I
Whoa la Singing my life with his words. Killing me softly with his song. Killing me softly with his song. Tell him a whole lot in his words. Killing me softly with his song.
A
You're not killing anyone softly with that song. That was freaking awesome.
D
That was great. Yeah, that was great.
A
And I love like the music didn't even need to keep going and she just.
D
No, she just. Yeah, she just acapelled it at the end there. Just no tunes. I loved it.
A
Yeah, she got the boy. She has a voice for it. Absolutely. And you know, all those little inflections and stuff like that, I mean, it's actually a really challenging song to sing and you know, she absolutely crushed every part of that song. So just.
D
Just awesome. I agree. What was her name again?
A
That was Lauren Greg with Killing Me Softly by the Fujis. Or I think it's just Fujis for FnK hip hop. That was in July of, of 2024 and I believe I could be wrong, but I believe it was the very first song she ever posted to the group. And then she won the theme of the week.
D
All right, I see why.
A
Yeah, nice. I figured FnK Hip Hop Week was appropriate after Eric Hopper's self recorded self written song.
D
Yeah, I'm having all kinds of time. Dude, you're. You're good at the lyrics too, man.
A
Let me tell you the story of noon connecting synapses. It doesn't work. What I need is, I need like 8pm, 9pm, 10pm with a bottle of whiskey and a few beers and we'll be good to go, right?
D
Yes.
A
Yeah.
D
That's when I perform best. That's. That's when I.
A
Afternoon. This is usually when I take a nap because I'm old, you know, I'm 43. This is like usually when I take a nap and then, you know, I'm like reflecting on the first half of my day. All right. Yeah, yeah.
D
You wake up like an hour later, some chips on your belly, just like.
A
Looking like fat Thor.
C
Huh? What?
A
That's like my favorite meme that I see right now is like, you know how I was hoping to end 2024 and it shows like Thor and how I actually ended. He's like walking with a beer, you know, food all over his fat stomach. That's how I feel. It's been a year, guy. It's been a year, right?
D
Oh, man.
A
Yeah. So you know those Friday night karaoke group. We actually have some pretty interesting stuff we did last year and we're talking about what it could look like this year. But we had a. We're not ready to announce it yet, but we had a Mic Drop challenge that was awesome and we loved it.
D
It was really good.
A
We're think we're talking through ways to make something like that happen again. So, you know, if the Mic Drop challenge is something you're familiar with, that we've done, you know, in the past, and it's something you're excited about, you know, it goes a long way. If you just send us a quick note or jump in the group and you know, just again, shoot either Joe or me a note or put it in the group that, hey, where's the mic drop challenge? Or we would love to see a Mic Drop challenge. Just kind of let us know that it's something that you're interested in seeing again and it'll kind of light a fire under our asses and get us to. To put something like that together again. Because that is really fun to put.
D
It is a lot of fun. It's a lot of work, but a lot of fun.
C
Fun.
A
Yeah, a ton of work. And 2025, I believe, is going to be even busier than 2024, which is a good thing all around.
D
That is a good thing.
A
So, again, if you're not currently a member of the Friday night karaoke, please go over to the group and join. If you are a member of the the group and you're watching the video right now, we would love for you to go to wherever you listen to podcasts. And that could be Apple, it could be Iheart, it could be Spotify, it could be Castbox, Google Podcast, Amazon on it could be audible wherever you happen to listen to podcasts and just either give our podcast a follow or a listen or some, you know, five stars or a comment or whatever that particular platform has, you know, show us some love because we love you. And, you know, it helps the algorithm quite a bit.
D
It does. When you'd be greatly appreciated. Yeah, definitely say something nice if you can and follow or share it written. If you hate us, don't write anything at all.
A
I mean, you could just write it to Joe. It's all.
C
Yeah.
D
Just any.
A
Any hate mail.
D
Just mail it to me personally. Don't. Don't post it on the Internet.
A
So coming up next, this. This singer is. Was the winner of FnK Numbers back in September. And FnK Numbers was the title of the song. Or, you know, just something in the song had to be a number. You know, it just had to be about numbers. I think it actually had to be in the Title of the song. It had to be all right of some sort. And I remember the song I did for this was one of my favorite I've ever done. It didn't get the appreciation in the group that I was hoping it would get, but I loved Everything Was it which is a parody of Bodies by Drowning Pool, you know, like. Yeah, but it was. It was like the. The Muppets or something like that. And. Oh, no, Sesame Street. I can only count to four. Four.
D
I can only count four. Dude, that. Oh, man.
A
All right.
D
I gotta look that one up. I don't think I heard that one.
A
Oh, my God. It was all right. Better than that, I'll bet.
D
I hope. Are you playing that right now for us?
A
No, actually, we're gonna be playing one by you two. And none other than Nancy Van Andhoven. Eindhoven. Eindhoven. Eindhoven. Nancy Von.
D
You were way off.
A
I'm so happy we got to bring that back. Yeah, it was very uncharacteristic. For a while I've been getting people's names right. But not today. Nope. So this is going to be Nancy van Eindhoven with 1 by you 2 for FnK numbers. Let's give it a listen.
G
Is it getting better or do you feel the same? Will it make it easier on you? Now you got someone to play you? You say one love, one life one life. It's one need in the night. One love, one love get to share it leaves you darling if you don't care for it. Did I disappoint you? Or leave a bad taste in your mouth? You act like you never had love and you want me to go without where too late to be nice to drag the fast heart into the light one. But we're not the same. We get to carry each other carry each other. Have you come here for forgiveness? Have you come to raise the dead? Have you come here to play Jesus to lepers in your head? Well, did I fear too much? More than a lot. You gave me nothing now it's all I got. Well, one. But will not the same seat hurt each other? And then we do it again. Love is a temple. Love is a higher law. Love is a temple. Love is a higher love. You ask for me to enter but then you make me crawl. And I can keep holding on to what you've got. Cuz all you got is her. One love. One love, one block. One bl.
A
One life.
G
You got to do what you should. One life with. With each other. Sisters in my br. One life was not the Same. We get to carry each other. Carry each other.
A
One.
C
One love.
A
I feel like that song could be about karaoke. I mean, we get to carry each other, you know, one love. Like. Yeah, all right. Yeah, I'll go with it.
C
Yeah, sure.
A
It's about karaoke.
D
Yeah, it's definitely about karaoke.
C
Karaoke.
A
That was Nancy Van Eindhoven with one by you too. And I love when people sing with themselves. I mean, I. I love that feature in Smule and Star Maker and all those other apps where you can record yourself and then you can layer on and other people could join or you could just join yourself, but the. The people who are able to do that effectively and harmonize with themselves. So when I do it, I basically just sing the same exact way, you know, and all the different layers. So it just sounds like me, but more of me. A lot of you. The way effective people do it. And then. Right. You know, people who are actually talented do it. They sing in different, you know, like different harmonies, different pitches, and different whatever. And it just. It's so much.
D
Yeah, look, dude, she sang. She sang one, and there was two of her, and she pulled it off. She did it.
A
Wait, there's. There's all kinds of numbers going on, right?
D
No, that was really good. Not really good. I loved her voice. She had a great voice. I love the background that she had. That was pretty cool. Like. Like that rock background. That was awesome as well. That was. That was pretty cool.
A
You like rock backgrounds?
D
I do.
A
Your background is very unrock. It's like very unpung rock. It's very corporate. It's very like I'm in an office and I don't know if it's corporate, but manage my many properties and business.
D
Business, business, business, business, business.
A
Your loan is denied. Little Timmy can't go home for Christmas this year.
D
Oh, I'm sorry.
A
Again. Nancy Van Eindhoven won by you two. I'm just trying to say your name off in because I think I got it right this time, and I'm just, you know, eliminating all my past offenses by saying it correctly as many times as possible.
D
Where's your Megatron?
A
He's gone.
D
He left.
A
He ran out. Yeah. So I got this really cool thing. You might, if you actually are watching the video, just go back to the beginning and you'll kind of see standing on the floor over there. I wanted to make a bigger spectacle of it, but I. For Christmas, I got the best present ever, because I bought it for myself, wrapped it, put it under the tree, and wrote you know, to Mike. From Mike.
D
You even write love Mike. You just wrote from Mike. You're not even there yet.
A
I'm working with my therapist. On.
D
From Mike.
A
Yeah, yeah. This is exhibit A.
D
All right, there we go.
A
It's like, let's work on that.
D
Nice.
A
So I got this really cool thing by. There's a company called Robosen in Japan that obviously, you know, Japan robots is kind of synonymous and it's like a thirteen hundred dollar freaking Megatron that's two feet tall and use the original voice actor that you know, kind of voiced in many different.
D
Oh really?
A
For Megatron. He's the voice for this as well. And he did custom everything. So it's like all brand new. It's not like just replay playing old stuff. And it fully transforms into a tank and the tank rolls and shoots and then he transforms back into, you know, Megatron and you know, does all kinds of actions and fights and I mean it has nothing to do with karaoke. Although he does have a rock out mode where he like does air guitar and, and pretends to use a microphone, which is. Would have been perfect for this.
D
Why don't you set it up on that one tonight, dude? I mean that. At least that would have been on the on theme.
A
You know, we should start with that. That'll be next time.
D
Yes.
A
Yeah. Or you know what? Next time we have FnK like cartoons or like movie and TV. You know, themes. We. I. I definitely have to put that in there. Although Transformers, that's a pretty lame theme to sing. It is more than meets the eye, right?
D
Maybe. Yeah. I don't know if you're gonna sing that one.
A
I mean gummy bears is better.
D
Look that. I mean it's. It's definitely super cool. My third grade self is so jealous of you right now. Like it's should be. It's hot.
A
Yeah. Yeah. I, I need to get. So they Megatron, they have an Optimus prime as well and I want to get that and I want them to battle and. Nice. It would be brilliant if they destroyed each other so that you had to buy more.
D
That'd be cool.
A
Yeah.
D
You don't want to destroy your 1300 Optimus Prime.
A
Yeah, no, no. I think Optimus prime is a little bit cheaper because Megatron's more badass and bigger. Really? Yeah, yeah, yeah. But still pretty damn cool. So anyway, moving along into a more karaoke and music style realm. Yeah, we only have two more songs left. Just two more. And this next one is from Fnk 60s. You know that's the thing about music, you know, like, it's pretty amazing how much music exists because, you know, it's a. Not just what's mainstream Billboard and all, you know, like, was on the top of the list. But, I mean, there's just so much music, and it's been made for, you know, so freaking long. And we have access to these songs, like, going all the way back to, like, the early 1900s, you know, it's. It's pretty wild, dude. Yeah, it's pretty wild. And, you know, with the amount of songs and the amount of music that exists out there. You know, I was born in 1981, but, you know, the 60s, the 50s, the 40s, I. I love a lot of those songs. Like, there's a lot of songs that, like, resonate really, really well with me, like, that, you know, like, I love covering at karaoke, you know, that I was exposed to at some point, and they just kind of stuck. So, you know, we're not limited to, like, you know, just songs of our generation or whatever. Like, you really get a sense for history.
D
Right on.
A
Yeah.
D
And now you're just exposing yourself to us.
A
I want to expose everything. Come take a gander at this. The next singer is T Bone with Everybody's Talking by Harry Nilsson. Give it a listen.
F
Everybody is talking at me I don't hear a word they're saying Only the echoes of my mind People stop and staring I can see the faces Only the shadows of their eyes I'm going where the sun keeps shining through the pouring rain I'm going where the weather suits my clothes I'm banking off of the northeast winds and sailing on summer breeze Skipping over the ocean like a.
C
Stone.
F
I'm going where the sun keeps shining through the pouring rain.
E
I'm going.
F
Where the weather suits my growth.
A
I'm.
F
Backing off of the northeast winds and sailing on summer breeze Skipping over the ocean like a stone Everybody's talking at me and hear Words are saying Only the echo of my mind.
A
And I.
F
Won'T let you leave Leave my little behind I won't let you leave I won't let you leave I won't let you leave my love behind.
A
That was really good. I. I love, like. We're talking about the harmonies and, like, being able to sing, like, with yourself and, like, just when. When those come in and, like, you know, he gets so good.
D
I just.
A
It's weird, like, how that particular sound, it just, like. It's like, kind of triggers something. It's like, you know, you hear it, you're like, I know that song.
D
That was really good. I liked. I haven't heard that song in actually quite some time. And he did it justice, man. He rocked it. He rocked it.
A
That's one of the things, like I. That. That's the word of the song that I know. You know, if it's karaoke, that's the part I'm gonna sing along to, too. Like, they're gonna be up there. I'm gonna be like. That's like this. That's the chorus. That's my little John moment.
D
No, that was good. He hit those high notes at the end, too. That was nice.
A
Yeah, he's really, really good. So that's T Bone with Everyone's Talking or Everybody's Talking. My Harry Nilsson for FNK 60s back in May 3rd of last year. T Bone's. He's won a bunch of the themes of the week.
D
Oh, yeah, no, he's been around for a while. Well, he's good.
A
Such an awesome singer. I get so excited when I see that he's posting something new in the group because it just, you know, so much talent and, you know, the songs he tends to pick, you know, are just songs I really like. So. Another piece of it. It's not just about the, you know, talent and, you know, which he has plenty of, but it's also about, you know, song choice and, you know, right. What resonates and what. All that jazz and, you know, T Bone has it down to a science or that stuff.
D
No, look, it's. Sometimes it's. It's the same thing as, like you said on stage, right? Where everybody's involved is if you pick a song and you put it on there and everybody wants to hear it and everyone listens because they love the song. You know, it. It has something about it. It's, It's. It's a good method.
A
Sometimes the worst thing at karaoke is. So I was at karaoke, like two weeks ago, live karaoke with a bunch of people. And, you know, I. I do karaoke often, obviously, and this happens often enough even for someone who's seasoned and who goes all the time. You just, you go through like, a couple songs that you're are your go to. Like, these people have never heard me sing these songs, and I know I do them well. So I'm gonna, I'm gonna roll out these songs. They've never heard me sing them, so I know what the reaction is gonna be. They're gonna. People are gonna love it. Then after that, like, you just go blank. You're like, I don't know how to sing anything. But you have lots of songs. There's, like, so many. You can sing thing, but you're just, like, blank.
D
You're like, no, dude, I write down the songs on my phone. No, I got the songs on my phone. I got, like, my list of go to songs in a little list on my phone.
A
Always forget to do that. I always forget. And ultimately I end up doing is I go back to Facebook and I, you know, to the Friday night karaoke group, and I go looking or smule, like, looking at everything I've ever recorded. And then, yeah, though I will say.
D
I will say about half the songs I put on my phone, I can't actually sing those. There's like a wishful. Like a wishful singing list. I'm like. I'm like, oh, I would love to sit. And I could write it down while I'm at karaoke, like, drunk. And then the next day, I'm like, I'll never do that one, you know, but it's on my list, because I know drunk. That one's on my list. All right, we got one more song, right?
A
One more. I'm singing. I'm singing it, right?
D
No, that's.
A
That's the song.
D
Is that the last one?
A
So this last one, we're getting a little country here with Tim McGraw.
D
All right.
A
It's a great way to end the podcast. It's the last song of the podcast. A little FnK freedom from July 5th, you know, a little 4th of July, you know, USA song here. Live like you were dying. Some Keith Hudson. Give him a listen.
D
All right.
J
He said, I was in my early 40s with a lot of life before me when a moment came to stop me on a dime. I spent most of the next days looking at the X ray and talking about the options and talking about sweet time. I ask him when it sank in that this might really be the reeling. How's it hit you when you get.
B
That kind of news.
J
Man, what you do? I went skydiving. Then I went Rocky Mountain climb. Then I went 2.7 seconds on a Boy Named Fu Manchu. And I love deeper and I spoke sweeter and I gave forgiveness I've been denying. And he said, someday I hope you get the chance to live like you were dying. He said, I was finally the husband. Most of the time I wasn't. I became a friend a friend would like to have.
A
And all of a.
J
Sudden, going fishing wasn't such an imposition. I went three times that Year I lost my dad. Well, I finally read the good book and I took a good long haul of what I'd do if I could do it all again.
D
And then.
J
I went skydiving, I went rocky mountain climbing, I went 2.7 seconds on a full name for Manchu and I love deeper and I spoke the sweeter and I can forgive me yes.
A
I've been denying.
J
Eddie said someday I hope you get the chance to live like you were dying like tomorrow was a give. You got eternity to think about what you doing.
B
What could you do with it?
J
What did I do with it? What would I do with it? I went skydiving, I went rocky mountain climbing, I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fu Manchu and I love deeper and I. I spoke the sweeter and I was nagel as it was flying. And he said, someday I hope you get the chance to live like you dying. Live like you were dying.
A
Man, what a country voice. What a way.
C
Wow.
A
Podcast.
D
Holy crap, dude.
A
He just, like, on point, man. I like, I can't believe, like, I'm gonna start looking for a Keith Hudson album because it's. It's on the way. It has to be.
D
It has to be.
A
No, that was.
D
That was phenomenal, dude. That was so good. Good. Yeah.
A
Even a fan of country music, but.
D
Like, for the most, you are now.
A
And I am now. Holy. Keith Hudson again live like you were dying by Tim McGraw. And I've never heard that song before because, again, I'm a big fan of country music in general. And it's not because I don't like it. It's more just because I don't listen. I haven't listened to it a lot. I actually tend to. Tend to like the songs I've heard, though.
D
Right?
A
Let's put that way.
D
Yeah. I became a country fan, like, about, like, two years ago. I. I never really listened to it. Then I just started getting into. Into it and, you know, I like.
A
It's all stories.
D
Yeah.
A
Like, it's a. You know, it's, you know, very.
C
It's.
A
It's not just a lyric and a chorus, you know, it's. I mean, I guess it technically is, but it just.
D
It is.
A
It kind of is, but it's, like, basically telling a story and Right on. It feels very real.
D
Agree.
A
I like. So, again, Keith Hudson live like you were dying by Tim McGraw. Little Fnk. Freedom from 4th of July last year. And that's it for the Friday night karaoke.
D
Love it.
A
That's it for 2024. Party like it's 2024. Man. What a great year 2024 was. I am really excited for 2025. I think this is going to be an absolute freaking banger of a year. You know, we're gonna be kicking it off first with this podcast and then in like under two weeks, we're going to be hosting that event in Orlando and you know, getting to see some of our Friday night karaoke members down there and some of the people in the podcast space that we love and.
D
We'Ll do some recording. We'll put it, we'll put the phone up there and post it live on the FNK website, right?
A
Oh, yeah.
D
Facebook page.
A
On the Facebook page. Yeah. So again, if you're not a member of the Facebook group, go to Friday night karaoke on Facebook. You just type it in the search and you join the group. And if you're, make sure you answer those three questions. Really important because we're going to deny it if you don't answer the three questions.
D
And they're easy. This is a, this is a test. You'll definitely pass.
A
Ass. Yeah, exactly. It's not like, you know, a long form essay or complicated math problem.
D
Yeah, pre calc. Yeah, you're not. Yeah, no, this is pretty easy.
A
Yeah, yeah, exactly. It's, you know, like what's your, what is your name? What is your favorite color? What is a couple of hysteria? What? I don't know that. For anyone that doesn't know, that's Tim the Enchanter.
D
Tim the Enchanter.
A
It's so good.
D
So good.
A
From Monty Python. So this is the time of the podcast where we come up with a theme. Oh, next week. It is currently Friday in Japan. So that means tomorrow morning I will have a new theme. I. I have one. So we've already touched on it during the, the show here. And we had Megatron out and I didn't really get to, to to play him on the podcast or show him off on the podcast so I could have an opportunity to do it next time. Yeah, the theme was correct. So I'm thinking FNK themes and we go back to movies, cartoons or television theme songs. Your favorites, you know, from your favorite cartoon shows, your favorite movies, TV shows. It could be welcome Back Cotter. It could be, you know, anything. Super Mario, the Super Mario Brothers Super Show.
D
You know what? I will totally agree to this. If you do the Transformers theme theme while holding your Transformer toy in front of the screen.
A
I want to do like, you know, the X File seam.
C
All right.
D
You know what you can do either of those. You can do either of those.
A
Actually. That'd be awesome. If someone could actually, like, like, nail it down, that would be pretty awesome, right? I'm reminded of, like, we had someone who did, like, Batman or something or Spider man or something like that. Just like in Family Guy. He, like, literally gets on there and he's just, like, staring at it. He's like, yes. That guy right there. He got it. He knows us. He belongs here.
D
Nice. Dude.
A
It's not. It's. No, no crazier than when you. Me and there's like, three other people, I think, or four other people. And we all got. Did a big group collab for tequila. And like, every time we yell tequila, we did a shot of tequila.
D
Oh, man. That was a fun collab. Yeah, I think I. I think I.
A
Messed that one up on purpose just so I could keep going. I'm gonna do it again.
D
I was definitely trashed at, like, 3 o'clock in the afternoon, so. All right, let's wrap this up, buddy.
A
The best of times. They were the best of times. That's it. Friday night karaoke. Thank you so much. That was FnK party. Like, it's 2024. We will see you in the threads. Mike Whiston out.
D
No, sorry. Joe Rubin out, too. I know, I know. We were doing a new in outro like that.
A
All right, I see you with anticip patient. Goodbye. Friday night karaoke.
D
Peace out, y'.
C
All.
