Joe Rubin
A little lower.
Karen Pavkov
And a little slower?
Steven Strong
Used to spend my nights out in a bar room? Liquor was the only love I know? But you rescued me from reaching for the bottom? And brought me back from being too far gone? You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey? You sweet a strawberry wine? You're as well as a glass branding? Honey, I'll stay stone on your love all the time? Well, I've looked for love in all the same old places? Found the bottom of the bottles always dry? But when you poured out your heart, I didn't waste it? Cause there's in like your love that gets me high? You Tennessee whiskey? You're as sweet as strawberry wine? You're as warm as a glass of branding? Honey, I'll stay stone on your love all the time?
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
M.
Steven Strong
You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey? You're as sweet as strawberry wine? You're as warm as a glass of branding? Honey, I'll stay stone on your love all the time? You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey? You're as sweet as strawberry wine? You're as warm as a glass of branding? Honey, I stay stone on your love all the time.
Mike Whiston
No, you're as smooth as freaking something. Really smooth.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Really smooth.
Mike Whiston
Wow. That was, like, such an amazing delivery.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Of that song and such an incredible way to start the Friday night karaoke podcast. What do you think, Joe Rubin?
Joe Rubin
First of all, I think your reaction was just horrible. I, you called the guy smooth, like, four times. That was a little weird. But his song, on the other hand, was phenomenal. Holy. I, I, I have just uninstalled smule from my phone because I could never sing again after listening to that. That, that. That was the best thing I've. He.
Mike Whiston
I mean, it belongs on the radio.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
It belongs tv. I mean, Stephen Strong singing Tennessee Whiskey. A little Chris Stapleton for FnK Last 10. This is Songs from the Last 10 Years. And again, kicking it off with Steven Strong.
Mike Whiston
You can't start off stronger than that.
Joe Rubin
That's pretty much as best as it gets. Dude, that. That was ridiculous. Holy.
Mike Whiston
It was. Yeah. The vocal talent there.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And, like, I heard, like, when he first started singing came out of, like, the very beginning there. You get the music coming in. Oh, this song. And then you hear him start singing like, oh, this, this. This is good. And then he starts hitting those notes.
Joe Rubin
And like, oh, man.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Going up and down and all around.
Mike Whiston
And you're just trying to follow along.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And you're like, this is just amazing.
Joe Rubin
Yeah.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I was very pleasantly surprised when I heard that. And I shouldn't have been. Steven Strong has been delivering some incredible stuff to the front.
Joe Rubin
He did remember he won the mic drop challenge like six months ago or something like that. When we had like, yeah, like November or something, he won that and he. And there was a lot of competition there and he crushed it.
Mike Whiston
I am Mike Whiston.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I am the co founder and co host of the Friday Night Karaoke podcast.
Mike Whiston
And the Friday Night Karaoke Facebook group.
Joe Rubin
And I am Joe Urban with the same exact title. And this is episode 64. 4 64. Look at you. I'm so impressed with your first grade Japanese skills. Good for you.
Mike Whiston
Don't ask me to write it down.
Joe Rubin
No, I won't. But fantastic. Welcome to episode 64. And this is. What was this theme called last 10? What does that mean exactly?
Mike Whiston
It's the last 10 years.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
So any songs that were released in the last 10 years. So anything.
Joe Rubin
Okay.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
From 2015 to 2024, I guess 2014 to 2024. You know, we're pretty lax with how this stuff works, but songs released in the last 10 years, we're trying to get, you know, something a little bit more recent. A lot of the themes that we run typically are like 80s and 70s and 60s and 50s and whatever. So it's nice to kind of get some new music out of the, out of the group here. Now I'm gonna totally agree. You know, usually these podcasts are like really high energy songs and like, you know, we're like jamming along and you know, I electric guitar and I out.
Mike Whiston
Here playing with it and smashing it against the wall and having a great old grand time.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And we're not going to be doing that this time. If we did, it would actually be really freaking weird because the songs are very chill for the most part. I don't think songs in the last 10 years are necessarily chill. I just think that the songs that are popular that people kind of latch on to in the last 10 years are probably a little bit more chill than in the past. Okay, maybe. I don't know, I'm just.
Joe Rubin
It's a good hypothesis on.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
We have 3,34,000 members of the Friday Night Karaoke Facebook group. And when we post up these, these themes, these challenges, we ask them go ahead and sing the songs that match the theme and they can pick any songs that they want that again match that theme. And largely of the hundreds and hundreds of submissions to this theme of the week, they were like these very chill, interesting.
Joe Rubin
So. So of all the songs in the past 10 years, karaoke aficionados choose the mellower ones to sing, right.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Where's Falling in Reverse? Like, where are you? Like, you know, sitting there screaming at the top. Top of your lungs.
Mike Whiston
Where's Tech nine? I want to hear some freaking crazy Tech nine, man.
Joe Rubin
Dude. All right, so you know what? That's an interesting little statistic there. So.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah, great.
Joe Rubin
Yeah, you sure are. You have to learn how to say it before you can be.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Magician. Magician, yes.
Mike Whiston
Oh, man, this is great. All right, so coming up next, we have one of my favorite things in the entire universe. We say it every time. I'm gonna say it again. I love duets.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I love collaborations. Friday night karaoke is all about the.
Mike Whiston
Collaboration and all about togetherness and singing together and being together and rocking together.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And T Bone and Sarah Keane are no exception to that. And they're gonna be singing a little Lewis Capaldi with Somebody to Love.
Joe Rubin
I love that song.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I'm gonna listen. Yeah, me too. I love it when they sing it. Wait till you hear it right.
Joe Rubin
I can't wait.
Andrew Crawford
I'm going under. And this time I feel there's no one to save me this soul or nothing really got away of driving me.
Additional Singer/Backup Vocalist
Crazy easy I need somebody to heal Somebody to know Somebody to have somebody to.
Andrew Crawford
It's easy to say but it's never.
Additional Singer/Backup Vocalist
The same I guess I kind of like the way you numbed all the pain now the day bleeds into nightfall and you're not here to get me through it all I let my guard down and then you pull the rug I was getting kind of used to being someone you loved I'm going under in this time I fear there's no one to turn to this all or nothing way of loving I'll be sleeping without you.
Andrew Crawford
No need somebody to know.
Additional Singer/Backup Vocalist
Somebody to heal Somebody to heave Just to know how it feels it's easy to say but it's never the same I guess I kind of like the way you help me escape Not a day bleed into nightfall and you're not here to get me into it all Let my guard down and then you pull the rug I was getting kind of used to being someone you loved and I close my eyes when it hurts Sometimes I fall into your arms I'll be safe in your son till they come back around when now the day bleeds into nightfall and you're not here to get me through it all Let my guard down then you pull the rug I was getting kind of used to being someone you love Validate me into nightfall and you're not here to get me through it all Let my guard down and then you pull the rug I was getting kinda used to being someone you love I let my guard down Then you pull the rug I was getting kinda used to.
Mike Whiston
Being someone you loved But I loved this song. This song was awesome.
Joe Rubin
Get used to that, dude. That was amazing. And by the way, and this intro was a little bit better. The last one made me really uncomfortable, but this one was actually a little bit better. Not great, though.
Mike Whiston
You're like, what else is smooth? How smooth is it?
Joe Rubin
But holy crap, dude. That was insane.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
That was really was. That was harmonized so well, man.
Joe Rubin
What was it? It was T Bone and Sarah Keane.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Right?
Joe Rubin
That was the. The singer there, dude.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Sure was.
Joe Rubin
That was beautiful. And I've heard Sarah sing a bunch of times before, and honestly, I. I can't imagine that she's not like a famous, like, Broadway singer or an opera singer like she seems like she should be if she's not. Like, she has that voice.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Friday night karaoke has been around for about, what, four years now. And I think it's really interesting, especially some of the members like Sarah Keane, who have been around since right near the beginning.
Joe Rubin
Yeah.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Just watching the evolution of these singers. I mean, Sarah's always been amazing, you know, from day one. But just watching the evolution and kind of how her singing has taken on new shape over time. And it's abso freaking lutely incredible. Like when I just kind of think back and it was like, again, it was always amazing, but it takes on a new character now, and she really makes every song her own. And T Bone relatively new to the group, puts out some incredible songs we featured before, and I think he's won a theme of the week or two. And the guy, it just puts out some amazing stuff. I. I would love to do a collaboration with him at some point, you know, like, he'll. He'll put me to shame on it.
Joe Rubin
But I'm sure he'd take you up on that, dude.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I'll put some fun behind it.
Joe Rubin
And nice taking credit for. For Sarah's singing ability, by the way. You're like, yeah, when she came to us, she didn't know how to sing at all. And FNK sort of fostered her.
Mike Whiston
Her talents.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Right.
Joe Rubin
And. And now she's amazing from joining FnK. So. You know what? Pat yourself on the back for that one, dude. You really hit it out of the park. Good. Good job on that one, dude. Dude, that was amazing. I mean, holy crap, dude. This week is just filled with talent. So far, this Is ridiculous.
Mike Whiston
It really is.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah. It's off to a great start again. That was T Bone and Sarah Keane with Somebody To Love by Lewis Capaldi. And just. Just an incredible second song for FnK last 10. You know, I realized I'm wearing the. The David Bowie shirts.
Joe Rubin
Nice shirt, dude.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Unfortunately, it doesn't really fit into last 10, because his last 10 years weren't so great. No.
Joe Rubin
You know, he died, like, 15 years ago, so.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
But, no, no, it was 2016. He passed away.
Joe Rubin
Did he die okay? Yeah. In 16?
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah, 16. So, you know, little. We're not too kind to good old Bowie, but, you know, actually, the. One of the best concerts I've ever been to in my entire life.
Joe Rubin
Go on.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
One of. It's not the best. The best was probably Metallica. I know it's, like, cliche for someone who likes metal and stuff, but Metallica is just an incredible live show. Yeah, honestly, Kid Rock was an incredible live show as well.
Joe Rubin
Really?
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah. Just a really good performer.
Joe Rubin
But I'll bet. Yeah, that's what everyone says.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
One of my favorite concerts of all time. I saw David Bowie and Trent Reznor. You know, Nine Inch Nails. Really?
Joe Rubin
That's a cool show, dude. Holy.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah, I saw them in Manhattan, and that was just ridiculous because, like, you know, I was, like, gaga over both of them back in the day.
Joe Rubin
That's awesome.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
They're both incredible artists.
Joe Rubin
Wow.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
But, yeah, man, I just.
Mike Whiston
I. I love.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
There's nothing more. You know, we've said this lots of times about, like, small, intimate, like, guitar and microphone and just, you know, love of, like, that scene. But, I mean, I just love live music in general, like, concerts. I'm actually going to my very first music festival in Japan in, like, two weeks.
Joe Rubin
Sweet, dude.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
It's called Summer Sonic, and, like, everyone's gonna be there, like, you know. Have you heard of Youngblood?
Joe Rubin
No.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
There's this dude, like, Youngblood, and he, like, has been covering, like, a lot of, like, really big songs and doing them, like, like, uniquely awesome. I'm gonna send you a couple, like.
Joe Rubin
All right.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah. Links.
Joe Rubin
My favorite concert. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Finish your. I thought you were done with your story. No, I was cutting you right off in the middle there.
Mike Whiston
Yeah, yeah.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I mean, like, everyone's gonna be at this thing. Like. Like, Pentatonix is gonna be there. Freaking Greta gone. Greta Von Fleet. You know, like the leads.
Joe Rubin
Yeah, yeah.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Wannabe band.
Joe Rubin
That's awesome.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Who just rocks it.
Joe Rubin
They're amazing.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Like, oh, wow. Bring me the horizon Like, I'm dying to see them. This list is just massive. Like, I'm, like, giddy about going, man skin is gonna be there, you know, Like, I wanna be your slave.
Mike Whiston
I wanna be.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah, that's.
Joe Rubin
That's awesome.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Anyway, yeah, I'm pretty cool. You know what? I'll tell you.
Joe Rubin
I'll tell my concert story in the next break. So. Yeah. Who's next? Who's next?
Mike Whiston
Next we have another amazing vocalist, and.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
We have so many amazing vocalists in Friday night karaoke, but, you know, there's a few that really stand out, at least to me, you know, ever. You know, music's a personal. A very personal thing. And one of the big standouts in the group to me is this man coming up next. He's been putting out great songs for prob. If I'm just guessing here, probably the last year and a half to two years in Friday night karaoke. Maybe it's been longer, but I believe it's around that time. He usually picks songs that require some really good vocal talent. He's not putting out, like, hard lines or anything like that.
Mike Whiston
And it's going to be Andrew Crawford.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
The Low Last Night by Morgan Whelan. Oh, cool.
Joe Rubin
Let's hear it.
Andrew Crawford
Last night we let the liquor talk? I can't remember everything we said but we said it all? You told me that you wish I was somebody you never met? But baby, baby, something's telling me this ain't over yet no way it was the last night. I kiss your lips, make you grip the sheets with your fingertips? Last file of jack we split the fifth just talking my life going sip for sip yeah, you you know you love to fight? And I say shit I don't need? But I'm gonna still wake up wanting you and me. I know the last night we left liquor talk I can't remember everything we said but we said, said it all? You told me that you wish I was somebody you never met? Baby, baby, something's telling me this ain't over yet? No way it was last night? No way it was a last night? No way it was a last night that we break a see your tail lights in the dust? You call your mama, call your bluff in the middle of the light pull her right back up your mind? My friends say let it go? Your friends say what the hell? I wouldn't trade your kind of love for nothing else? Oh, baby, last night we let the liquor talk? I can't remember everything we said but we said, said it all? You told me that you wish I was somebody you never met but baby, baby something's telling me this ain't over yet no way it was last night we said we had enough I can't remember everything we said but we said too much I know you pat your and slammed the door right before before you left Baby, baby something's telling me this ain't over yet no way it was a last night no way it was a last night I know you said this time you really weren't coming back but baby, baby something's telling me this ain't over yet no way it was a last night.
Additional Singer/Backup Vocalist
No way it.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Was a last night I mean, it better not be the last night I hear you're singing Andrew Crawford, because that was just awesome.
Mike Whiston
Like always.
Joe Rubin
Dude, he is a really good voice. He has a really, really good voice. He's always crushing it. I haven't heard him sing in actually quite some time. Maybe I missed it, but, man, 34, 000.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
That's easy to miss. Yeah.
Joe Rubin
You know, it does. It does. We get a lot of songs posted, but he really stands out. It's. It's great.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Everyone listening. We try. We really do try.
Mike Whiston
We try.
Joe Rubin
It's hard. It doesn't.
Mike Whiston
It's fantastic.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I love posting and I love that.
Joe Rubin
I love it. I love it. That's fantastic. And that was. That was fantastic. Andrew Crawford. Bravo, sir. Bravo. Hey, you know what? I just realized what we screwed up. We didn't mention the sponsors, especially our whiskey sponsor during Tennessee Whiskey. I feel like that was. That was a huge layup and we fucked it up. So why don't we give a big shout out to our sponsors right now.
Mike Whiston
Mr. Cliff's premium bourbon Whiskey. I want to give a big shout out to the best whiskey on this side of the Mississippi.
Joe Rubin
It is good. We. I mean, we drink a lot of whiskey, me and you. And you know what? We. We do have discerning taste. Like we've had some whiskey where we're like, you know, like, man. But honestly, Mystic Cliffs is really good for, you know, a smaller startup brand. They're crushing it. So thank you for sponsoring our show here. We do love it.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
If you find yourself kind of sitting at home and you're like, what should I drink today? Should I drink this, this, this whiskey from North Korea? I wonder if I should drink some Kim Jong whiskey or should I have some Mr. Cliffs?
Mike Whiston
I say go with America.
Joe Rubin
That's right, Mr. Cliffs. And honestly, it's. It's reasonably difficult to get North Korean whiskey.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
So actually, I do want to call this one out. So. Joe And I both know this guy named David. Great dude. Did some work with us a while back. And, you know, he's from South Korea. He decided to visit Japan. You know, I live in Japan for anyone that doesn't know. And he decided to visit Japan and texted me, and he's like, hey, I'm gonna be there if you want to hang out.
Mike Whiston
And I'm like, yes, David. What's up? Let's hang out in Japan.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And I met up with him, and he brought me this. And it's like, this is really hard to get. Don't open it. Doesn't taste good. But it's really.
Joe Rubin
But you know what? The bottle alone, how freaking cool is that? That's a. Like that. You don't. Yeah, man, that's. Don't. Don't lose that. That's a cool bottle.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Well, I'm just saying they're gonna hang on to it and. Yeah, I don't actually know anything about it, but I. I do want to try it. Like, I actually want, like a. Take a. Take a sip. I just want to know.
Joe Rubin
Don't do it.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I'm not going to.
Joe Rubin
Don't do it. Instead, he comes instead. Drink, Mr. Cliffs. Thank you, Mr. Cliffs.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I brushed my teeth with it.
Joe Rubin
All right, who's next? Who is next?
Mike Whiston
Again, just to recap, that was Andrew Crawford with last night by Morgan Wallen.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And it was just perfection.
Mike Whiston
And coming up next, we have an FnK moderator. So I gotta call this out.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
You know, the Friday night karaoke group is something that you can find on Facebook if you're listening to this on any of the major platforms like Iheart, Spotify, Castbox, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts. Actually, this doesn't exist anymore. Amazon, or anywhere that you listen to podcasts. If you're not watching the video version of this and you don't know that a group exists, let me loop you into a little bit. Little secret here. There's a group. If you go to Facebook.
Joe Rubin
Yeah.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Open up that app and you type a little search at the top.
Joe Rubin
Yeah.
Mike Whiston
Friday night karaoke. And then you click on the thing that says group join.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
You can join the group. You can join 34,000 other music enthusiasts in a negativity. Free ad.
Mike Whiston
Free gimmick.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Free is environment.
Joe Rubin
All right.
Mike Whiston
And.
Joe Rubin
Yeah. All right. So as you yelled really loud into the microphone, you peeked out. So here's what I'm gonna. I'm gonna repeat that in more calm terms. Go to Facebook, type in Friday night karaoke, and you'll find the group. Join the group. And you're in, your, your instructions are like, like, all right, so smoke some crack. And then.
Mike Whiston
I mean, that's an important first step. You can find Friday night karaoke and you can find God, right? So anyway, what I wanted to say.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Is, you know, the Friday night karaoke group exists. That's where we're pulling these songs from. We have a theme of the week every week. And you know, last hen was one of them. And that's where these songs are coming from. People who are posting to the group and just singing their songs and we feature them on the podcast. The group as 34,000 members. It's important to have moderators.
Joe Rubin
It is people who are just looking.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Out for the community and making sure that it's not being spammed. And you know, it's a negativity free group. So we want to maintain that. And we have probably the best group of moderators that any group could possibly ask for. I just want to give a huge shout out to all of them. And this is one of our moderators, Karen. Karen Pavkov. She changed her name recently. So that's why I'm stumbling it with it.
Joe Rubin
K A Karen Kolar.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Right. It used to be Karen Kohler that the artist formerly known as Karen Kohler.
Mike Whiston
So Karen Pavkov is gonna be singing.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
A little Jelly Roll with I am not okay. Let's give it a listen.
Karen Pavkov
I am not okay I'm barely getting by I'm losing track of days and losing sleep at night I'm not okay I'm hanging on the rails so if I say I'm fine Just know I've learned to hide it well I know I can be the only one.
Charles Johnson
Who'S.
Karen Pavkov
On and on the daylight But God knows I know when it's all said and done I'm not okay but it's all gonna be all right it's not okay but we're all gonna be alright I woke up today I almost stayed in bed had the devil on my back and voices in my head Some days it ain't all bad Some days it all gets worse Someday the where I'm better off laying in the dirt I know I can't be the only.
Mike Whiston
One.
Karen Pavkov
Holds on and on for dear life But God knows I know when it's all said and done I'm not okay but it's all gonna be all right it's not okay but we're all gonna be alright Gonna be all right I know one day we'll see the other side and the pain was away In a holy water tide we're all going to be all right I know I can be the only one.
Joe Rubin
Who'S.
Karen Pavkov
Holding on for delight God knows I know when it's all said and done I'm not okay but it's all gonna be alright it's not okay but we're all gonna be all right I'm not okay but it's all gonna be all.
Mimi Walt
Right.
Mike Whiston
I mean, it's all gonna be all right because we just heard your amazing singing.
Joe Rubin
Oh, man. Dude. Dude, that's an Karen's another voice that I, I really miss. I haven't heard her sing in a while and it's probably me and I know she's out there and doing it, but it. I, I love her voice. She is such an incredible singer and honestly that's the first time I've had her sing country music. Usually she's singing these amazing, like big band, like crooner.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
She, she crushes everything music.
Mike Whiston
Yeah.
Joe Rubin
Yeah. And, and actually this whole week has been a little country for me, which I'm loving. I like this, this is, this is pretty, this is my, this is my style here. I just noticed a lot of country music this week.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
So the last 10 is, you know, the, the music people are latching on to in the last 10 years is largely country, at least from a sample of 34, 000 people. Right.
Joe Rubin
It's, it's all like acoustic versions of country songs. That's what we're hearing today. That's, that's pretty interesting.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
You know what? You're not wrong.
Joe Rubin
I know I'm, I, I'm definitely not wrong.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Jelly Roll, you know, it's someone that I, I heard save me obviously a while back and like, oh, this dude's amazing. But I didn't really know who he was and then I just started seeing him pop up everywhere, like, just everywhere, like, you know, doing collaborations. Jelly Roll has a whole bunch of songs with other artists and I love it when big artists do that. They, you know, they don't just go out and put out their own stuff and me, me, me, me. It's like literally like, here's what I can, here's what else I can do.
Joe Rubin
Right?
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And you know, they expand out. I mean, he has a song with Ronnie from freaking Falling in Reverse. Like, you know, a metal freaking song. You know, it brings the country flair to it. But it's, it's, it's so cool seeing that kind of stuff. And, and I'm, and I know I'm.
Joe Rubin
Gonna screw up this story But I believe, like, this past Christmas, he bought, like, an entire truck's worth of toys and, like, gave out to all these kids in need and, like, just, like, coated them with. With all sorts of amazingness.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Like. Like. Like.
Joe Rubin
I love hearing things like that. That really.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
He coated them with amazingness.
Joe Rubin
Coated them with amazingness.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And that's what they warn you against.
Mike Whiston
They're like, don't ruin my story.
Joe Rubin
Don't ruin my story.
Mike Whiston
Don't eat the candy.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
It has acid on it.
Joe Rubin
No, no, no, not that. Like, I don't know where you hang out.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And that's how I got fat. I just kept eating the candy. Like, this one that.
Mike Whiston
Nope.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Does this one have acid? Nope.
Joe Rubin
That's his. Finally. Did you ever find. Did you ever find the. The good one or what?
Mike Whiston
Still looking.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I'm fat.
Joe Rubin
Anyway, that was Karen Pavlov. She is an amazing singer. If you haven't heard any of her other songs, go on to FNK on Facebook and just search for her. She's. She's so good.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
So, yeah, if you close your eyes and just listen, you're going to think you're listening to Postmyern Jukebox.
Joe Rubin
Yeah, she's so good.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
You know, she probably should be in that little troop of amazing.
Joe Rubin
Yeah, pretty much everyone that's sang so far should be famous like these. It is unbelievable. Unbelievable.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I. I'm still very bullish on the idea. We talked about this in the last podcast, but I'm very bullish on the idea of an FNK concert where we invite out, like, yeah, you know, a handful of the artists from FnK, right? And we throw a freaking concert somewhere.
Joe Rubin
I mean, we need some sponsors. We need sponsors for that.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I mean. Are you listening? Yes.
Mike Whiston
I heart media. Are you listening?
Joe Rubin
That'd be awesome.
Mike Whiston
What's up? Hey, Cliffs, how much whiskey do you want to sell? Yeah, Joe and I are very well.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Known at our events for. You know, we actually did. I think we might have talked about this on a previous podcast, but I'm sure at least once we threw an event at a. A giant venue with a live stage or a stage with, like, a live band where you can go up and sing karaoke with a band. And it was at a conference, and we actually bused people from the conference to this venue. And on the bus or multiple buses, Joe and I each would have bottles of fireball. Fireball, fireball. Like, two giant handles of fireball.
Mike Whiston
And we would walk through the freaking.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Aisles, just pouring in people's mouths. Oh, my God, dude, people were trashed. By the time they got to the.
Mike Whiston
Venue, before the party actually started, everyone was trash.
Joe Rubin
Oh, man, that was so much fun. You know who didn't enjoy that? The bus. People had to spend the extra cleanup fee for the bus because the floors are all sticky.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah.
Joe Rubin
Oh, man.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
We need Mr. Cliffs to sponsor us. We'll. We'll walk through and pour those. Pour Mr. Cliffs in everyone's mouth. And then we need, like, some type of really good janitorial company to sponsor us as well.
Joe Rubin
And, and an airline of some sort and hotel fee. So it's like we need, like, the Hyatt and Delta to come in. So.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Man, this is, this is.
Joe Rubin
I know. This is getting big.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Who wants to work on this with us?
Joe Rubin
I know. I like this. All right, call me if you know the people at Hyatt and Delta. Call me.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
So I, I, I still want to call this out. You know, you mentioned that you haven't seen Karen post in a while. I agree with you.
Joe Rubin
And it may have been me. I don't want to, I don't want to tell her that she's not posting. It may have been me just not seeing it.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I know someone else who hasn't posted in a while. I'm gonna call this out publicly.
Joe Rubin
Wait, hold on. Sorry, you're breaking up. Can you. Yeah, I'm sorry.
Mike Whiston
All right, who's next?
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
There is a co founder of the.
Mike Whiston
Friday night karaoke community and the podcast. This is a guy who's sitting here talking to you about music, who's critiquing all of the music, who's lifting up.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
All these singers, and he has yet to sing for himself. Myself.
Joe Rubin
You're right. You're right. It.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
So I'm calling you out.
Joe Rubin
It's been, it's been a long time since I've posted a song and that, and that would explain some of the reason of why maybe I haven't heard some of the singers because I haven't been able to get on there as much. And it's, it's, it's a motivational thing, I think. I don't know what it is. I, I haven't had that, that. Yeah, that spark of like, of like, oh, my God, I need to sing this right now. And I, and I've had it so many times in the past where I'm like, I need to be on it. And I would record songs, like, daily. Right? And then all of a sudden, like, I'm in this dry spell of, like, I don't know.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I want to call this out. So anyone Listening to the podcast right now. And this is a great way to prove that people listen to our podcast. And, you know, there's. We get like 40, 50,000 people that listen. But, yeah, I want people who are.
Mike Whiston
Listening and taking action.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
So here's the action I would love for you to take. Go to the Friday night karaoke group. I want you to start a thread, and I want you to tag Joe Rubin and I want you to tell him what song you want him to sing. All right?
Joe Rubin
You know what? If I get a little bit of inspiration like that, if I get any sort of hint of inspiration, I'll do.
Charles Johnson
It.
Joe Rubin
If I get inspired. But it's just weird. It's like, you know, this. Come on. Everybody must go through this occasionally where you're just like, I just don't have a. I just don't have the urge to sing something like. And I don't have the. The inspiration. So I'm just in that.
Charles Johnson
That.
Joe Rubin
That weird, long dry spell, you know, which is.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Maybe you feel like singing some classical music.
Joe Rubin
Maybe I do. Maybe I'll sing the piano part.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
My kids. My.
Mike Whiston
My five year old.
Joe Rubin
All right, enough about me. Let's talk about you. Not you, you. No, the other.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Use the.
Joe Rubin
The proverbial you.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
The royal you. Yes.
Mike Whiston
Coming up next, we have another FnK moderator, another absolute rock star in every possible way coming from.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
You, from, I believe, Texas. This is gonna be Mimi Walt with a little leave me before you love me from Marshmallow and the Jonas Brothers.
Joe Rubin
Nice.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah.
Mimi Walt
I see you calling. I didn't want to leave you like that. It's five in the morning Yay. A hundred on the dash. Cause my wheels are rolling and taking my foot up the gas? It only took the one night? See the end of the line Staring deep in your eyes. Eyes dancing on the edge. Gotta take it too far. Messing with my head How I mess with your heart? You wake up in your bed alone in the dark I sorry. Gotta leave before you love me you need. Before you love me. Can't, can't leave before you love me. Can't, can leave before you love me. Can't leave before I'm so good knowing I went to leave the party behind. Don't get the notice yeah, yeah. I'll just catch a ride I'd rather be lonely.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yay.
Mimi Walt
Then wrapped around your body too tight yeah. I'm the type to get naked Won't give my heart a core breaking it's time to gone to be staying, staying Dancing on the edge. Rather take it too far Keeps messing with my head? How I mess with your heart? You wake up in your bed Alone in the dark I'm sorry. Gotta leave before you love me yeah, yeah? Leave before you love me? Yeah, yeah Leave before you love me? Yeah, yeah Leave before you love me? Yeah, yeah Leave before you love me? Dancing on your the edge take it too far? Messing with my head How I mess with your heart. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Leave before you love me.
Mike Whiston
I'm not going anywhere as long as you're singing. I'm right here, dude.
Joe Rubin
Holy crap.
Mike Whiston
She's so good.
Joe Rubin
She's so good.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Oh, she posts, like, a lot of songs, which I. I love because, like, they're all good.
Mike Whiston
They're all good. They are all good.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
So I. I'm very selective with the songs I post because, you know, it takes me a while to kind of get in the zone. Like, can I even do this one? And then very often, you know, I'll sit there for weeks after recording it because, like, I don't think it's good enough. And then I send it to you, and they'd be like, yeah, that one's all right. Yeah, you should go ahead and post it.
Mike Whiston
And then I'll post it up, and that's the process. I'm not going to put out, like.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
40 songs because I would have, like. I would go insane. Like, I would be like, people are listening to all these songs. I. I haven't, like, vetted in my head yet, so. You know, she posts a lot of songs, but they're all freaking good. And I love that.
Joe Rubin
She's got talent.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Collaborations and group. Group songs. And just a great overall member of the community and just an amazing talent.
Joe Rubin
Yeah, she's got just amazing natural talent, which is. You know, when you got that level of talent, you just post that many songs and they all sound amazing. You know, just. I wish I had that. You know, it's a.
Mike Whiston
You know, do that.
Joe Rubin
No, and no, I do the same thing. Like, I'll record a song and I'll. I'll record it, like, six times, you know, because I screwed it up. And then I'll be like, all right, which one sounded best out of the six shitty ones? And, you know, and then you're like, nah, I can't. Even the best one sounds like, you know, like, so. I mean, I can't be alone in that, but got to be other people, minus Mimi, who do that same thing.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
My favorite songs to sing six times or 10 times or 20 times are the ones where in the Video, you are taking a shot or a swig, you know, of whiskey or whatever and. Or tequila or whatever the flavor is for that particular song. Because, you know, by Take five, it's so much better.
Joe Rubin
I sound great. By take five.
Mike Whiston
Amazing.
Joe Rubin
Oh, man. I'm like, holy shit.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I'm a rock star.
Joe Rubin
Yeah.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
If I take 10, I'm texting like old girlfriends. And.
Joe Rubin
I take 10 of us. Sleep, dude.
Mike Whiston
Mimi wall with a little leave me before you love me.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Bye, Marshmallow and the Jonas Brothers. And just moving along to keep this to a rounded hour, we have three more songs, and I want to get through them. So we're gonna skip the chit chat.
Mike Whiston
And get right to it.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Coming up next.
Joe Rubin
One thing we love skipping is chit chat.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
No, we don't.
Joe Rubin
Hey, I've got another story. I'm just hanging out with you. I know. I do love doing this podcast with you, man. This is awesome.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Me too. Oh, let's see the bromance here. This is great.
Mike Whiston
I also want to call out.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
You know, we're both using these beautiful Shure MK7 microphones. I want to call out. We have a sponsor.
Mike Whiston
Sure.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Microphones. These sound incredible. If you hear me cutting out, it's because my setup sucks. Not the microphone, right?
Joe Rubin
No, these are great microphones. I mean, I've used a bunch of microphones over the years, and this one sounds so good, and my setup is pretty good, so I sound great. So, yeah, I'm excited. But I. But I would sound less great without a sure microphone. But honestly, I know that sounded cheesy as. But they. They. They heard our podcast, they liked us, and we like those folks over there, and they gave us these microphones and we gave out some for the competition as well, for the winners. So really cool of them to sponsor the show. I really do it.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Appreciate.
Joe Rubin
Appreciate that.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah. And I want to be clear for everyone listening who doesn't know us or doesn't kind of know what the group's about. Again, it's a negativity free group. It's an ad free group, and we don't generate any revenue or make any money on it. When we have. When we talk about these sponsors like Cliffs or we talk about Shore, they're providing products, and we give them out to the community. And, you know, obviously, I'll take a bottle of whiskey myself and I'll take a microphone myself as well. That's right. But that's the extent of it. So it's all about you guys and all about the music. And this is what we do it for.
Mike Whiston
So coming up next, we actually have.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
A brand new member. At least I believe he's a brand new member to the group. I haven't seen much posted from him in the group ever, so I believe he's relatively new. Definitely a first for the FNK podcast. It's gonna be a little Charles Johnson. Not a little Charles Johnson. It's gonna be Charles Johnson full size.
Joe Rubin
Full size Charles Johnson it is.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
With one of my favorite musicals in recent time, you know, Hugh Jackman and a bunch of others in the Greatest Showman. I want to make it clear, you know, this is the Friday night karaoke group and these are all singers who are just, you know, out there with their home recording. You know, not everyone has a shore microphone set up. Not everyone has like, you know, this great way of getting their voice into. Into the computer so that they can and mixing it. And, you know, it's very much a hobbyist and something that, you know, a hobbyist group and, you know, people are doing whatever they can just to get it out there and share it with the world. So I want to preface it with the volume on. This is a little low and you know, the mixing is a little off. But we really liked the song and I really love. All right, the Greatest Showman. So we want to include it. So let's hear that.
Mike Whiston
This is going to be Charles Johnson.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
With A Million Dreams from the Greatest Showman.
Joe Rubin
Nice.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Give it a listen.
Charles Johnson
A Million dreams I close my eyes and I can, I can see A world is waiting up for me that I call my own through the dark through the door to where no one's been before but it feels like home they can say, they can say it all sounds crazy they can say, they can say I've lost my mind.
Simone Tellier
I.
Charles Johnson
Don'T care I don't care if they call me crazy we can live in a world that we design Cuz every night I lie in bed the brightest colors fill my head A million dreams are keeping me away I think of what the world could be A vision of the one I see A million dreams is all it's gonna take.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Oh.
Charles Johnson
A million dreams for the world will gonna make There's a house we can build Every room inside is filled with things from far away Special things I compile each one day that make you smile On a rainy day they can say, they can say it all sounds.
Additional Singer/Backup Vocalist
Crazy.
Charles Johnson
They can say, they can say we've lost our mind See I don't care I don't care if they call us crazy Run away to a world that we desire. Cause every night I lie in bed the brightest colors fill my head A million dreams appear Beneath the grave.
Joe Rubin
I.
Charles Johnson
Think of what the world could be A vision of the world from what I see A million dreams is all it's gonna take Over A million dreams for the world we're gonna make however big, however small Let me be part of it all Share your dreams with me. We may be right but we may be wrong. But I wanna bring you along to the world I see. To the world we close our eyes to see. We close our eyes to see. Every night I lie in bed the brightest colors fill my head A million dreams are keeping me away. I think of what the world could be A vision of the one I see A million dreams is all it's gonna take A million dreams for the world we're gonna make.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Day.
Charles Johnson
For the world we're going to make.
Joe Rubin
A million dreams.
Mike Whiston
I have a million dreams and one of them involves you singing that song for me.
Joe Rubin
Well, it came true, dude.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
True.
Joe Rubin
Oh, man, that. That was nice. I like that guy's voice. What was his name again?
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Charles.
Mike Whiston
That's gonna be Charles Johnson.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Charles Johnson. Dream.
Joe Rubin
You know what? That was great. He seems like the guy you want to hang out with when you go out to karaoke, right? Like, he's the guy you want to invite out and back.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Come on out.
Joe Rubin
We're going. He's like, I'm in, right? And he's like, whatever song comes on, he's like, I'm gonna crush it. And he gets up there. Like, everybody sings along with him. Like, he's that guy.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And I wish I could pull off his hat. Like, I wish I could. Like, I love, like, that style hat. I can't pull it off. It just. It doesn't work with my fat face. No.
Joe Rubin
Maybe get a fatter hat.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I need a fatter hat. I definitely do. I. I really want to be able to pull that off. But you know what? Those hats, it's like. It goes with, like, the whole style. You need, like, the clothes to go with it. You know? I can't do that in a Bowie shirt.
Joe Rubin
No, you try your. I used a skate shirt.
Mike Whiston
Oh, that might work. Yeah, that might work.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Every hat goes in a million dreams. It really does. A million dreams of the greatest showman. I love the greatest showman. You know, one of my favorite duets that I've ever done, and it's not the best by a long shot. It's not even that great by a long shot. But to be Honest. But one of the most fun duets I've ever done and I appreciate the most. And I go back to. And I'm like, you know, happy. Smile and feel good and nostalgic is Joe. And I did that. What was the name? Like, right here, right now? I put the offer out.
Joe Rubin
You had to remember the name of the song. But that was fun.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah, that was a really fun.
Joe Rubin
That was a fun duet, dude.
Mike Whiston
Yeah.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And we, like, dressed up for it. And that's one of those, like, where.
Mike Whiston
We were doing shots and drinks.
Joe Rubin
That's right.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
It was.
Joe Rubin
Because there's a drink during the song, and, like, I did that's take like, six times. I'm like.
Mike Whiston
So, so much fun.
Joe Rubin
That was fun.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Nothing beats that. Like, the pirate one where we're, like, drinking, like, the whole time.
Joe Rubin
Yeah. All right, all right.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
So.
Joe Rubin
So the greatest showman one. The greatest showman one. I left that one a little buzzed, I'll tell you that much. The pirate one. I was faced. Dude, we were done.
Mike Whiston
I was like, I'm.
Joe Rubin
It's 3:00 in the afternoon, and I'm going to sleep right now for the night. I'm. I'm out.
Mike Whiston
You realize the second we stop this.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Podcast, I'm gonna go find that song and watch it again.
Joe Rubin
Oh, my God, dude.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Now I have, like, I want to go see it. Yeah. You know, this is. I'm gonna bring it up in therapy.
Joe Rubin
That's the reason I'm going to therapy. Oh, man.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I realized I had a drinking problem after that song. Yeah, that.
Joe Rubin
That song gave me the drinking problem, dude. That was.
Mike Whiston
Thank you, Mr.
Joe Rubin
Clips.
Mike Whiston
All right.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
We were drinking.
Joe Rubin
That was. Oh, yeah. Oh, man, that's. That was a headache.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Rum hits you in a different kind of way.
Joe Rubin
Yeah. Right in your head. Like, it gives me like. Like if someone just hit you in the head with a baseball bat, like, that's like what I feel like after I drank rum in the morning. That didn't come out right.
Mike Whiston
Well, you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.
Joe Rubin
That's right. All right, who's next? This is going nowhere.
Mike Whiston
Another long time phenomenal member of the.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Friday night karaoke community. Someone who's been a staple in the community, both with their own songs and their contributions to other songs and their engagement with other singers in the group. You know, just being an active part of the group and just really bringing it home. This is gonna be Simone Tellier with Lost Boy by Ruth B.
Joe Rubin
Nice.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Give it a listen.
Simone Tellier
There was a time when I was alone, nowhere to go and no place to call home. My only friend was the man in the the moon and even sometimes he would go away too. Then one night as I closed my eyes I saw a shadow fly and high he came to me with the sweetest smile Told me he wanted to talk for a while. He said, peter Pan, that's what they call me. I promise you that you'll never be lonely.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And ever since that day.
Simone Tellier
I am a lost boy from Neverland. Usually hanging out with Peter Pan. And when we're bored we play in the woods. Always on the run from Captain Hook.
Karen Pavkov
Run, run, Lost Boy, they say to me.
Additional Singer/Backup Vocalist
Away from all of reality.
Simone Tellier
Neverland is home to lost boys like me And Lost boys like me are free. Neverland is home to lost boys like and lost boys like me are free. He sprinkled me in pixie dust and.
Additional Singer/Backup Vocalist
Told me to believe.
Simone Tellier
Believe in him and believe in me Together we will fly away in a cloud of green to your beautiful destiny. As we soared above the town that never loved me I realized I finally had a family. Soon enough, we reached Neverland peacefully. My feet hit the sand. Never.
Mike Whiston
Since that day.
Simone Tellier
I am a lost boy from Neverland. Usually hanging out with Peter Pan.
Additional Singer/Backup Vocalist
And when we're bored, we play in the woods.
Simone Tellier
Always on the run from Captain Hook.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Run, run, Lost Boy, they say to me.
Additional Singer/Backup Vocalist
Away from all of reality.
Simone Tellier
Neverland is home to lost boys like me. And lost boys like me are free. Neverland is home to lost boys like me. And lost boys like me are free. Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Wendy Darling, even Captain Hook. You are my perfect storybook Neverland. I love you so. You are now my home sweet home forever. Alas, boy, at last. Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Wendy Darling, even Captain Hook. You are my perfect storybook Neverland. I love you so. You are now my home sweet home forever. A Lost Boy at last and for always.
Karen Pavkov
I will say.
Simone Tellier
I am a lost boy from Neverland. Usually hanging out with Peter Pan. And when we're bored we play in the woods. Always on the run from Captain Hook.
Karen Pavkov
Run, run, Lost Bo.
Simone Tellier
They say to me.
Mike Whiston
Wa.
Simone Tellier
Love reality. Neverland is home to lost boys like me. Lost boys like me are free. Neverland is home to lost boys like me. Lost boys like me are free.
Mike Whiston
Rufio, Rufio. Rufie. Oh, the best. The best Peter Pan movie ever. Simone Tellier.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Simone Tellier with Lost Boy by Ruth.
Mike Whiston
B. Oh, I have heard that song.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Before because I recognize the lyrics a little bit. Or, like, at least the Hook or the chorus, rather. I. I recognize it, but I. I don't think I've ever actually listened to the words or like, like, really listen to the song enough, and I. I kind of like it. I kind of like that song. It's a.
Joe Rubin
You know, I don't think I've ever heard it. I. I've never heard it. I'm guessing it was about Peter Pan.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I mean, for sure guessing, right?
Joe Rubin
But no, but more importantly, though, her voice is. I. I've told you this, like, five times before. Like, she's got this killer voice. It's just fantastic. And she crushed that song. She killed it. It was so good.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah. And, you know, when you're in your situation, even mine in this case, where I don't really recognize the song, this is such a great way to discover new songs. And it's not like just going through your Spotify playlist listening to, like, this highly well produced song.
Joe Rubin
Right.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
We're getting, like, you know, just like regular people who are inspired by this song and decided to make it their own and sing it in Friday night karaoke. And now we're discovering that song for the very first time through them and through their interpretation of it. And.
Mike Whiston
And by the way, amazing.
Joe Rubin
By the way, there's been several instances where I've heard a song that I've never heard before and then heard it first on FnK and then heard someone else sing it, and I'm like, I like the original better. You know, like the one that I heard on FnK, that's the one that I like better. And it's kind of funny because, like, I've never heard the Peter Pan song, but I guarantee you, if I ever hear the. The actual recorded, whatever, produced version of it, I'm not gonna like it as much as this one.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah. You know, that's actually happened to me where I like a Friday night karaoke version far better than the original.
Joe Rubin
Right.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
That's. It's actually really cool.
Joe Rubin
Crazy, right?
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Unpopular theory or unpopular opinion? Not theory, unpopular opinion. But I think Dustin Hoffman's greatest role ever is as Captain Hook. In Hook.
Joe Rubin
I thought you're gonna say Rain Man.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I mean, see, that's what someone might think. But. But I think it was, you know, Captain Hook. And here's another unpopular.
Joe Rubin
Well, look, look, Captain Hook makes more sense in this conversation.
Mike Whiston
In this conversation.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Well, that's where it came up. It didn't come up, like, out of left field. I mean, some of my.
Joe Rubin
Makes no sense at all. Why is he talking about this?
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah. And another Unpopular opinion is, you know, when I was younger, I. I definitely identified with, you know, Cap, with Peter Pan and the Lost Boys, and. Yeah, like, this is cool.
Mike Whiston
And, like, you know, you never grow up.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And, you know. You know, that's.
Mike Whiston
That.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
It's kind of like a fantasy world that you would want to be part of. But as I got older and, you know, I'm 43 now, and, you know, I identify much more closely with Captain Hook. Like, I feel bad for Captain Hook, and, you know, he's under a lot of pressure.
Mike Whiston
He has to pay a mortgage on the ship. Pressure from his parents, probably to marry me or whatever the. You know, like, you know, what, Are you gonna lock it in? You know, all this. He has to take care of all these people, and they're all idiots, you know, and, man, it's not easy being Captain Hook. I feel for him, man. And these kids keep running around and up for him.
Joe Rubin
You know, they say. They say the best days of boat ownership are when you buy it and when you sell it. Right? Like, that whole time in between, he's like, I gotta go pirate around with these kids. You know?
Mike Whiston
Like, it's.
Joe Rubin
It's a struggle, dude. You know? Yeah. Can you imagine how happy he'd be? Like, he'd be like, oh, I sold the boat, guys. Sold it. We're good.
Mike Whiston
I'm so Jersey.
Joe Rubin
Yeah. Here's the keys. Get the out of here. I'm gonna sit on the beach.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
So I actually have some bad news.
Joe Rubin
Oh, no.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
That was. That was the last song.
Mike Whiston
Oh, all right.
Joe Rubin
Dude. We're like an hour and, what, two minutes now? I mean, this is.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah, yeah.
Joe Rubin
This is the most on time we've ever been. But let's. Let's pick a theme.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
That was the last song, though. That was a great podcast.
Joe Rubin
You know what? That was a great podcast. Of all the podcasts that we've done, that was the best one ever.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Oh, that was the best one in the last.
Joe Rubin
This week.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Week.
Joe Rubin
This week. That was great. Honestly. That was fun. No, that was great. Those. Those things were just incredible.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
But. But, like, we said, it was going to be a slower time.
Joe Rubin
I don't care. That's fine.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
My energy and.
Joe Rubin
Yeah, the first half was country. The second half was a little more pop, but all of it acoustic versions of, like, great songs from the past 10 years. Yeah, I know we're gonna argue about theme, but I'm gonna throw something out there right now before we even start this conversation.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Throw it out. Throw it out.
Joe Rubin
How about. Let's just let's just continue. I like this a lot, honestly. Let's just do like previous 10. So 2004. I loved this. Honestly, I thought this was great. I want to do it again.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
2004 to 2014.
Joe Rubin
Yeah, I want to do it again. I love this. This was fantastic.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Why don't we make it easy? Why don't we just make it 2000 to 2010?
Joe Rubin
No, dude, no, no.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
You want to make.
Joe Rubin
It doesn't work. Yeah, it doesn't work. We did last 10. Now we're gonna do previous 10. We can't do previous 10 plus 4 minus 4.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
We're gonna totally mess everybody up. I can't wait to do this. You know what?
Mike Whiston
I'm all for this.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I'm in for it.
Mike Whiston
Let's do this.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
You know, normally we would go back and forth. I would pick one, he would pick one, and then we would debate it and we would decide like, you know, what's the next theme going to be? But you know, I love sticking it to you all with previous 10 while you have to go there and like look it up and go to chat gtp.
Mike Whiston
Like, is this song released? And yeah.
Joe Rubin
And by the way, it's got month, month, month's count. By the way, it needs to be August 1st of 2004.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Shut up. Yeah, otherwise we're gonna send the police.
Joe Rubin
Imagine that. Imagine like, sorry, you did it one day. Previous like, no, we're not that big of a jerk. But yeah, you know, we're not. Oh, I think 2004-14. Let's do previous 10. I like this.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah. And you know what? We're gonna, we're gonna include if there was a cover of a song that was done long ago in those years, that's fine as well. You can cover the COVID All right. Yeah.
Joe Rubin
Make an argument for whatever you want to sneak in there. But let's just do those 10 years.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Yeah. You know what? Okay, so Fnk previous 10 has a.
Mike Whiston
Giant fu to the Friday night karaoke community. We love you guys. Good luck finding songs.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
I will like usual from the Friday night karaoke account. If you go to Friday night karaoke on Facebook, you type in, give some examples, join that group and you look in the featured section, you'll see the theme of the week. It'll say previous 10. And if you look in the comments, we usually list out like 150 options. You know, like, we just go pick 150 songs that match that theme. It gives you a kind of a starting point, something to work off of. And like Joe Said, like, if you're not sure and it's close or whatever, don't worry about it.
Joe Rubin
Just throw it in there.
Mike Whiston
Yeah.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
This is not American Idol. This is Friday night karaoke.
Mike Whiston
It's negativity.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Negativity. Free ad. Free. And just about the music. So let's have some Fun with it. Fnk Previous 10.
Joe Rubin
Yeah. P10. And. And by the way, if you. Yeah, P. Let's make it short. Yeah. P10.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Right.
Joe Rubin
F. And by the way, I did enjoy those country songs in the beginning. So if you pick a country song, extra points.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
And if you pick a metal song.
Joe Rubin
Extra, extra, double extra points.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Double the extra.

Mike Whiston
Yo, we feel like we're close to 100. Help us out.
Joe Rubin

Joe Rubin
Almost. Good night. Bye.
Co-founder/Co-host (possibly Mike Whiston)
Bye. See you later.
