Put a spell on you because you're mine? You better stop the things you do. I said what Chef? I ain't lying? I can't stand it cause you're running around? I can't stand it cause you're putting me down so high? I put a spell on you because you're min. You gotta stop the things you do, yeah? I said watch out? I ain't lying, I ain't lying? Cause I love you, can't you see me? I love you, I love you Even if you don't want me to. I put a spell on because your mind? Your mind? To ever put a spell on you? Because your mind. Hey y. Because your mind.
B
Oh my God. I'm still learning how to use a computer. It's so hard. But let me tell you, Let me tell you. If you're gonna start a week called turn it up to 11, you're gonna start with a song exactly like that from Paul freaking Bright from Originally from Screaming Jay Hawkins. That was a. I put a spell on you. But dude, dude.
C
Ah, dude, that was a great way to kick it off and enjoyed watching you learn how to use this podcast equipment again. You messed it up there a couple of times, but way to kick it off, dude. Way to kick it off. It's been a while.
B
You know, I think that's been a few months. You know, we're now in season four season. Oh, it's season four, episode one.
C
Yeah.
B
Actually. So welcome back. It's been a while, Joe.
C
It's. It's always been a while, Mike. We are at recording these on time, right? We are really bad at it.
B
We really are. And just to get back to that real quick, Paul Bright with I put a spell on you by screaming Jay Hawkins. And you know, I. Not only was he amazing at delivering that song and just kicking off the Friday night karaoke podcast here, fnk11week. But you know, when I think of that song, not only is it like just this high powered, awesome song from the 50s, but I think of like Hocus Pocus and I think of Bette Midler sitting there and singing and. And you almost forget that it has, like, all this soul to it.
C
Oh, man. You know how many things remind me of Bette Midler?
B
How many? Tell me the number. How many?
C
So many. Everywhere. Look. When I see a cloud in the sky.
B
Or take a look. Look at Meg Cappuccino. Look at the foam there.
C
I see Bet in your foam.
B
Yeah, it's nice. Wow. And my lifeline. Okay, great.
C
Now I'm guessing I'm guessing Paul recorded that, like, last week for Halloween week, Right? I'm guessing that was a theme. Or was it this week for the 11 week?
B
It was for FnK11, actually. That's the week right now. Let's look at it. Theme of the week. It's Turn it up to 11.
C
Nice.
B
If you know exactly what this is from and if you don't get the. Out of my group.
C
I hear. I hear the noise that in my head, it's like.
A
Right. Drums.
B
That freaking one strum and go across the room. Yeah, it's so good.
A
All right.
B
Anyway, Turn it up to 11 weeks. This is where anyone can sing songs that, you know, turn the dial up to 11. Something that, you know is full of energy. Something that gets them going, Something that is, like, exciting. Something that you'd see in a stadium. It's just like all of our themes, it's very open to interpretation. You know, we. We kind of set it out there to the universe go Turn it up to 11. And the universe responds with, here you go.
C
Yeah, exactly. Like. Like one person's 11 is another person six or 20. Like, you know. You know, like, my 11 is a little bit different than your 11. Clearly, you're 11.
B
My 11 is like a normal person. Three.
C
Yeah, exactly. You know, like, you have a very, very large gauge of.
B
Wait, wait, wait. You know, my three is a normal person's 11?
C
Yeah, I think that's what you meant to say.
B
Yeah, scratch that. Yeah.
C
When people are talking normally and you, like, you're doing. You're like, wow. You know, like that. Like, you're only at number three. Like, people like, oh, my God, he's so crazy. And I'm like, no, no, he's normal right now. This is. This is number. This is three, Mike. Three.
B
Well, I'm just practicing for a metal band one day. I'm hoping to be discovered. I'm hoping they, like, you know, kind of like Lil John. I was like, yeah, yeah. Mine's gonna be like, wow. And I just want someone to hear that and be like, we need that in our songs.
C
Nice.
B
And they're gonna sing really well. And I'm just gonna be like, yeah, wow.
C
You could be like, Little Mike. Little Mike.
B
No, no, no. I've worked so hard in my life to, you know, escape that name.
A
So.
B
I am Mike Winston. I am the co founder and co host of the Friday Night Karaoke Podcast and the Friday Night Karaoke Facebook group.
C
And I am Joe Rubin with the same exact title and pleased to be here at fnk11. This is a great week, dude. I, I, I can't wait to hear what you got in line for us here today. I really can.
B
Awesome stuff.
C
Yeah.
B
We kicked it off with Paul Bright with I Put a Spell on you. And we got seven more awesome artists to bestow upon you and to blow out your eardrums. Although not all necessarily loud songs. Again, they could be stadium songs. They could be just like, you know, whatever you think is an 11 song. That's what's in here. So we have some really good ones. Let's get right to it. We have someone I don't believe that we have ever featured on the podcast. I could be wrong, but I don't believe we've ever featured this man on the podcast before. And here he is with a song I freaking love from the 60s. This is going to be the Animals, House of the Rising Sun. I'll talk a little bit more about cool stories there afterwards, but this is going to be Neil Burgess with House of the Rising sun by the Animals. Give it a listen.
A
There is a house in New Orleans they call the Rising sun.
C
And it's.
A
Been the ruin of many Apple boy. God, I know I'm one My mother was a tailor she sold my new blue jeans My father was a gambling man down in New Orleans now the only thing a gambler needs Is a suitcase and a trunk and the only time he's satisfied Is when he's on a trunk oh, mothers, tell your children not to do what I have done Spend your lives in sin and misery in the house of the rising sun There is a house in New Orleans they call the Rising sun and it's been the ruin of many a four way and God I know I'm one.
B
Yeah, dude, he hit those notes. He just freaking knocked that one out of the park. Love you.
A
I was.
C
You're still with a video camera thing, Dude, I was not suspecting that. I like, I was not expecting him to be able to hit those notes and hold those notes through the entire song. He crushed that dude.
B
Yeah.
C
What a set of lungs on that guy. Holy crap. What was his name?
B
That was Neil Burgess with House of the Rising sun by the Animals. And not only did he knock that one out of the park, another one that, you know, I have grown really fond of the newer version of it and I always forget the original, you know, just like I always forget screaming Jay Hawkins with I Put a Spell on you because I think of Bette Midler, I think of Five Finger Death Punch singing this song now and, you know, just like the. This, like, dark metal, like, heavier version. And it's. That's the one. Whenever I'm. Whenever I cover this song in karaoke, that's the one I kind of summon. And I always forget the animals had an awesome. I mean, the original version of it, right?
C
Yeah, no, that's. I love that version of this song. And I love. Actually, I think Bette Midler did a version of this song as well.
B
I hope so. I want to go look this up if we should have a Bette Midler week.
A
Right?
C
Oh, man. Dude, that was so good.
B
Wear, like, the. Like, the lipstick in the middle, you know, just. Just the. The middle part.
A
You.
C
You can do it.
B
Wait, is that. Is that from Hocus Pokers or am I thinking of, like. I think I'm thinking of Alice in Wonderland.
C
I think you are.
B
Which isn't Bette Midler at all. But you know what? You could have played the role off with her head.
A
Right?
B
Like, she can do it, man. All this with a little bit more class.
C
Exactly.
B
You know, that class. So again, Neil Burgess, House of the Rising sun with the animals for Fnk 11 week. Yeah.
C
And I don't think we ever featured him before, by the way. I think that's the first time I remember seeing him on the podcast.
B
I do have a fun fact, just so you all know, in case you are not part of the Friday night karaoke group on Facebook, which, by the way, you could just go to Facebook, you type in Friday night karaoke, you look for Friday night karaoke, the group, and you click on join. Answer three questions and you are in. And the largest negativity. Free ad, free group on Facebook dedicated to a love of music with some of the coolest people in the entire musical universe.
C
This sounds too difficult. Is it really that easy?
B
It sure is. And if you act now, how many.
C
People are in this group, by the way? Now?
B
43,000.
C
Holy crap.
B
I know. Amazing people. You know, like, when we started this thing and it was like, just you and I and we're posting songs to each other like idiots, and, like, grabbing random songs from, like, Facebook and reposting them because we thought they were good and tagging the original singer there or the original karaoke singer there. And, you know, just back back then, it was such a simple time. And then we had, like, you know, 10 people, and we were able to interact with Everybody. Now there's 43,000 of you crazy, awesome people, and I just don't even know where to start anymore.
C
Like, you know what Though I love seeing it. I love seeing. Because we like post a theme of the week and then there's hundreds and hundreds of amazing songs that get posted for each theme of the week. It's so cool.
B
Yeah, absolutely. And I do not envy Jennifer Adams who goes through all of this every single week. So thank. Thank you, Jennifer.
C
Thank you, Jennifer.
B
Yeah, you're a rock star. Just fun fact, Neil Burgess actually won the Friday night karaoke theme of the week. So the FnK11, this theme, we post it in the announcements of that group and everyone gets to post their songs for a full week. And, you know, we pick three, you know, one winner and, you know, a second and a third place there. Nothing major. It's not like an American Idol competition or anything. It's just for fun. And the winner gets like a. Like a 10Amazon gift card.
A
Nothing.
B
Nothing major. And Neil actually won the FnK11 theme of the week. Awesome song. So nice job, Neil. I totally see why.
C
All right, so who's up?
B
You know, it's no fun having a karaoke group and having a karaoke podcast and doing all this stuff in karaoke if you can't freaking feature yourself sometimes, right?
C
That is the benefit, dude. You get to feature yourself whenever you want.
A
Exactly.
B
You like, look at me even if you don't want to. This is one of those situations where I'm saying, look at me even if you don't want to. This is going to be my question with Stone Cold Crazy by. I. I did the Metallica version. It's originally by Queen, but, you know, the Metallica version. Here it is. Give it a listen.
C
Yeah.
B
When we're going around Gonna clear out of town Smell like a dry fishbone Here comes a law Gonna break down the door Gonna tell me we want more Never, never, never want it anymore Gotta get away from the stone.
A
Cold crazy Stone cold cr.
B
Anymore, anymore can't take it anymore Gotta.
A
Get away from this don't go low.
B
Crazy, stone cold crazy, yo.
A
Walking those streets Feeding people out of me Fully.
B
Loaded time again Here comes the deputy Trying to get to me Gotta get up and run they got the siren suit I run right out of juice they're gonna put me in the cell if I can't go to heaven let.
A
Go to hell Crazy Stone cold crazy, yo yeah.
B
Man it takes a lot out of you I tried F K 11 this one. That's. That's all I got.
C
Dude, that ending was fantastic. I'm so tired from this song.
B
I know, dude. It's like a workout, man. Oh, My God, you turn it up to 11, you better bring your freaking energy right?
A
Yes.
C
Dude, you got to go jogging more often and build up that endurance. You gotta.
B
Really. I'm 44 years old and, like, that is enough, you know? Dude, you.
C
You were born to be a front man of a metal band. I tell you, man, you have the stage presence for galore, dude.
B
3 minutes and 12 seconds.
C
Oh, man, you got.
A
You did.
C
You did it all, by the way, in that three minutes. You did. You did. Did Devil Signs, you did Jazz Hands. You did the Pulp Fiction. You did everything and, like, you got it all in that.
B
Do you remember that movie where the guy is, like, you know, he's like, talking on the microphone. I was doing that.
C
He did the air guitar. You definitely did not do the double. The double, you know, handshake there.
B
Double handshake. Handshakes aside, again, that was yours truly with Stone Cold Crazy by Queen. And I did the Metallica version. And, you know, I just love. Actually, it's funny, the first three songs that we're featuring here all have alternate versions that are popular or, you know, very popular also. And, yeah, it's cool.
C
It's a cool thing about Theme of the Week.
B
We've done it before. But it is a cool thing about music. I mean, they obviously do it in movies, but it doesn't have the same kick. You know, like, you watch a movie and then they remake the movie like, as is, you know, like the exact same way, and it's like, oh, come on, that's cheap. Like, they remade Lilo and Stitch, for instance, recently, and they did, like, a live action version of the scene. Yeah. And it was. And it was just trying to copy exactly the original thing that you loved. And it was just. It's horrible. Like, to me, I couldn't wait. My daughter, who loves Stitch, like, love Stitch, has stitched everything all over the place, and she couldn't get through, like, 20 minutes of that movie. Like, she was like, ah.
A
Why?
B
And if they just made it different or something, it would have been cool, but they just made it, tried to make it exactly the same, but just, you know, reboot it or whatever. So that doesn't work so well, I think, in most movies. But in music, absolutely freaking lutely, you know, they bring their own little flair to it, you know, their, you know, their own, like, energy, their own, you know, obviously, voice and presence and all that kind of stuff. And it's. It's actually great in music because it lets you rediscover something if you've you know, forgotten about it or you don't listen to it a lot anymore and you kind of, you find that love for it again and for new generations. It definitely, like, just brings it to the table. And then they go looking for the original, like, well, what does this come from? And they go discover that. I think it's pretty cool. And that's actually what we're doing in Friday Night Karaoke. We're like resurfacing all of this stuff. You know, the amount of music I've discovered through this group is insane. It's more than I've discovered on Spotify.
C
Definitely. Definitely. I actually love when you hear a remake of a song for the first time, hearing that song. And then you definitely. Then you hear the original, like, sometime later. You're like, who covered this song? And you're like, no, no, that's actually the original version of the song. You know, it's, it's. That's always a fun one to, to get over.
B
You know, my, my dream is to cover a song like, I. I'll sing that one, you know, like Stone Cold Crazy. And I want it to be on. I want it to play on, like, Alexa. You know, like when someone's like just playing a playlist on Alexa and then I want someone to be like Alexa who sings this song. And instead of saying like, like that's Stone Cold Crazy by Queen, I want them to be like, that's Stone Cold Crazy by Mike Whiston.
C
Dude, you'll get there. You'll get there. We can upload that to Amazon and you can request it, you know.
B
No, so what I need is I need AI to completely change my voice to something else. And then we got it. All right. We are not even halfway done yet and we talk a whole freaking.
C
We know we have a lot of. Of built up stuff that we wanted to get out over the past, like two months. So I know I actually have another story. I'm just joking. Like, let's, let's go.
B
Yeah, we, we need more room for activities. I know I am screwed on this name, so I'm gonna leave out the middle name, but you'll see it on the screen. So coming up next. Oh, this is actually great for turning up to 11. Melissa Etheridge. Yes. From the 90s. So this is going to be Melissa Etheridge. I'm the only one. And it's another new featured member from the Friday night karaoke community on the Friday night karaoke podcast. This is going to be.
A
You know what?
B
I'm going to Try the middle name, too. Jeanette Lowchel Brown. I think I got it right. Jeanette Lowchel Brown with I'm the Only One by Melissa Etheridge, 1993. Give it a listen.
A
Sam. You. You. I. Sam Sweet.
B
The only one. Yeah. Damn, dude, I freaking. Oh, man. Like, these songs are classic and you just, you know, you've heard it a thousand times. You know, again, given my age, you know, I've heard this. You know, that was back in high school and stuff. Like, I, I, I listen to that song 100 billion times and getting to hear it. And she did it beyond justice. Like, she made it hers. And it was that live karaoke.
A
Nonetheless.
C
Dude, I love live karaoke and I love that it was recorded at live karaoke. That and. And the fact that she crushed it live in front of everyone in that room is the best.
B
Nothing.
C
Because you know what? Because you know what? Like, when, like I. Obviously on here you have different recordings, right? Some people record with one of the music apps, like a smule. Some people recording live in a bar. Some people have their guitar playing and they just. And they sing. Acoustics stick. So there's a lot of different ways to do this. But when you record it live, that's your one shot. You got one take. You know, that's, that's your only take. I've definitely recorded a lot of songs where I'm like, ah, you up in.
A
The middle of that.
C
And you stop and do it again. Like, and it sounds great at the end, but there was 19 takes of just garbage before that.
B
Live karaoke.
C
You got one shot to not mess this up.
B
I. I want to make up karaoke. That's the name of the called fuck up karaoke. And when you go like, we'll just, like, we'll rewind 30 seconds. You get to try. Let me just do that again. Okay. I up.
C
I think we should have a thing where you, where you upload like, just your garbage takes. And like every song ends with damn it. Right? Like, like cuts out halfway in every. The middle of every song. Like, that's. I think we need a week like that.
B
Then we need to fnk.
C
Snk.
B
Shit.
C
Damn it.
A
That's. It.
B
Just became my new favorite week ever. So again, that was Jeanette Lo Shell Brown with I'm the only one a little Melissa Etheridge. And you know, just to continue along the lines of what Joe was just mentioning, people record on all kinds of different mediums here. And as far as the podcast is concerned, if you're watching it, you definitely heard you Know, the audio quality was a little off because it's in actual live venue. And that said, we're not gonna, you know, be sticklers here and, you know, keep a great performance out of the podcast.
A
Right.
B
Just because it. The sound isn't what it needs to be. I mean, this is. It's an open karaoke group about love music, and you put it yourself out there, and we will absolutely freaking lutely feature you. That said, if you're listening to the audio version of this, we will master it a little bit better, and the sound, I'm sure, will be great. But at least the video version of this, if you have a problem with the sound, just wait for the audio.
A
Yeah.
B
Or either way.
C
Either way, honestly, we're not gonna, like. We're not retouching that video. Like, it just is.
B
What. We're not touching the video.
C
It's recorded live in the middle of a bar. You know, like.
B
Yeah, that's just the way it sounds. And by the way, she powered through that.
C
There is nothing.
B
And, like, and chilling and, you know, glasses clinking and people doing chairs and stuff. And, you know, she's powering right through all that. And. Exactly. Hear it very prominently in this. In the video.
A
So.
B
So that's. Oh, man, I love karaoke. I love live karaoke. That being said, we do this every time that we travel. We actually have. Coming up in January, we will be down in Orlando, Florida, once again for a large podcasting conference, and we will be doing a karaoke night. So please go to the Friday night karaoke group. Look up Joe or I or just message the Friday night karaoke main account there, there, and let us know that you can be in Florida or you are in Florida and you'd like to go to live karaoke with us. And we will be hosting an event. I believe it's. I have to look at the dates. I believe it's like the 15th or the 6th. No, it's the 16th of January, something like that.
C
Yeah.
B
In Orlando on international Drive. And, you know, we're buying drinks. Just come down and have fun and sing and hang out with Friday night karaoke and about 200 other people.
C
Exactly. It'll be a packed house, but it's a great little dive bar. We always have a good time time. So definitely, if you're in the area, you want to be in the area, hit us up. Come on down. We'd love to see you. Drinks are on us.
B
Absolutely. So coming up next, if we're fnk11, we. Oh, you know what? I did that backwards. I should be like, I know. You're like, Fnk 11.
C
There you go.
B
I love.
C
Honestly, like, that was like. That is the exact opposite of what I expect from you specifically. Right.
B
Well, you know, just. It's a whole bunch of. Scratch that. Reverse it. I think that's from. What's that from? That's from Willie. Oh, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The original with Jean Wilder. He's like, scratch that, Reversed it. Yeah, I. I think most of what I see.
C
Missy Elliott.
B
Work it, baby. Work it. You better scratch that and reverse it. So this gonna be William Bynum, Another new. I love this. It's like a new member we week, a new featured member week. I love this. This is the best ever. So this is gonna be William Bynum with as Long as I have you by Elvis. And the person who picked this for our podcast today actually said that, wow, this person sounds just like Elvis. I haven't listened to it yet, so. All right, let's all find out together. I'm super excited. Let's find out.
C
I love a good Elvis again.
B
William Bynum. As long as I have you by Elvis. Here it is.
A
Let the star spin and fall And I won't care at all as long as I have you. Every kissing the thrill and I know that it will? As long as I have you. Let's think of the future, forget the past? You're not my first love but you're my last Victor love that I dream? Then I'll have everything as long as I have you. Let's think of the future, forget the past? You're not my first love but you're my last. Take the love that I bring? Then I'll have everything. As long as I have you. As long. As long as I. As long as.
B
I freaking love it. She's right. She's right.
C
She's definitely right. She's definitely right. That he definitely did a great Elvis. I have no idea why she selected him for FnK11. That was definitely closer to 7 on the loudness, excitement. But we should he. I mean, this. That should have been in the crooning videos for sure.
B
That should be in the crooning video. You know what? For his time, he was. Although he does have a lot of, like, 11 songs. Elvis has, like, a lot of songs that are definitely 11.
C
That's not one of them.
B
No, no, no.
C
You know what? Like, Jennifer, please tag him again for, like, FNK crooners, because let's play that one again that week. Regardless. He's awesome. He's really good.
A
Really good.
B
Again, that was William Bynum with as Long as I have you by Elvis. The 11 version.
C
Yeah, yeah. You know what? And you know what?
B
Like youe.
C
Know what? Like, like Mike said, you know, in the audio version, we clean it up a little bit. We're gonna have some, like, just electric guitar in the background of that one. Nice.
B
Remember that new sound you were looking for? Well, listen to this, man.
A
Oh.
B
So my son actually, you know, my son is. His name's K for anyone that, you know, doesn't know. And he's now 7 years old, and he finally watched Back to the Future for the very first time ever, man. And he's old enough now to get it, and he's like, his head's spinning with it.
A
It.
B
We were driving the car two days ago back from his school, and he's like, dad, dad, what? What? What if what if we're in traffic? He's like, what if our car could just fly, like, in Back to the Future? I'm like, that would be kind of cool. I love that he's, like, thinking about stuff like that. And, yeah, I I want to show him Back to the future 2 and 3. But, you know, I just want to keep him happy and just, you know, let him remember it. It really, really, really good. Two was not bad. Three kind of sucked.
C
No, it didn't. Dude, what are you talking about?
B
Wild West.
C
This podcast is over.
B
Oh, I'm leaving.
C
Nobody talks that way about Marty McFly.
B
Definitely don't call him chicken.
A
So.
B
So I should mention that I think I already mentioned this is Episode season. Episode 74. Episode. Season 74 of. You know, it's season four, episode one, but episode 74, we've made 73 of these in the past.
A
Wow.
B
And that is just an absolute ton. And part of that is thanks to. And I need to throw this out there, our lovely sponsor, sure Microphones.
A
Wow.
B
Sure microphones. The MV7. It's a podcast microphone of the future.
C
It actually. It's really good. We're using them now. Are we using the MV7s right now?
B
We are using them.
C
These are the MV7s right now. I mean, these sound crisp, dude.
B
Yeah. You know what? If you're gonna advertise something on your podcast, you know, make sure that you're actually using it.
C
I know.
B
So if you like the way this sounds, then go get yourself an MV7 and tell them Mike and Joe sent you. They're gonna be like, like, okay.
A
Who? Who?
B
That's great. No, our sponsorship is Literally, like, you know, go throw your. Throw this image up and we'll give you some microphones to, you know, send out to the community.
C
And honestly, I love it. We've given out. We've given out some microphones. Who cares? We use them ourselves. Fantastic. Lovely, lovely microphones. And very happy to have them as a sponsor.
A
Yeah. Thank you. Sure.
B
Yeah. Thank you. We sure are happy.
C
Yes, we sure are happy.
B
Coming up next.
A
Guess what?
B
It's another new member. I love this.
C
I love it.
B
I'm so happy. So this is the one I was. This is the one I was telling you about. This is going to be awesome. So this is. This is Scott Otopol with who made who by AC dc.
C
Oh, yeah.
B
Let me tell you, whenever someone tries AC DC at live karaoke, it puts a giant smile on my face because I love acdc. I love, like. But he has such a unique sound.
C
Yeah.
B
Such a unique presence that it's hard to replicate in live karaoke. Right.
C
ACDC is very hard to do. I heard a woman singing it once. It was amazing.
B
But I so, so hear it. So Scott rocks this. He absolutely rocks this. But. All right, I'm just gonna. Well, I'll wait till the end. All right, here's Scott Otopo with who made who by ACDC. Let's give it a listen for FnK11.
A
Feeling gonna go spine nothing gonna save you One last time Losing on you through and through the day to day knows my nightmare cause I gotta play cause I make a w. We saw pressure getting in the object of t was going round and round? You're every miracle you take your line and with it down so don't. Yeah.
C
Oh, now that was 11.
B
Yeah. And he summoned Brian Johnson on that one freaking day long. Wow. All day long summon Brian Johnson. That was great.
C
That was awesome. That was awesome.
B
Oh, man, that was impressive. Absolutely. That was William Bynum with as long as I have you. No, what am I doing? I'm looking at the complete wrong thing. It's got with who made who by acdc. I am on a radio roll today. You know what? When you haven't recorded a podcast in at least a long time, this is what you get. And you get what you get and you don't get upset. And that's what my son always says, and he's right.
C
But he gets upset just like you right now.
B
So I'm sure. So. So I. I couldn't. I couldn't unhear this. And it's not a slight. Like, you know, Scott Otopol if you're listening, you rocked. You completely rocked. And you were exactly. It sounded so much like. And I know you were trying to mimic and sound like Brian Johnson and you completely achieved that. But what I just realized as I was listening to it is Brian Johnson sounds a lot like.
C
Elmo. No, not really. A little.
B
You don't think so? You don't think so? I couldn't, I, I, I, I could just imagine Elmo singing.
C
I would actually love to hear the Elmo cover of acd.
A
That's what I'm saying.
B
I, I really think so. I want, if you're actually watching the podcast or listening to the podcast and you've listened this far in, tell me if you think Brian Johnson sounds like Elmo or Elmo sounds like Brian Johnson.
C
I guess he kind of does, actually, now that, now that I'm thinking about it.
B
Yeah. I just want to hear him giggle.
A
Let's be friends.
B
I don't think he says that. That tickles.
A
Shoot A t. Laughs.
B
It's Great Scott. With Whom I Do by acdc. Thank you so much. Again, absolutely freaking amazing. And I am a, I, I, I love again when people sing hard to sing songs and they absolutely crush it because I try those hard to sing songs all the time and I usually just do it by myself in the shower because I don't have the, I don't have the, the, the stones to go to live karaoke and do it in front of people. So. And that's, those are the ones. Actually. There's so many songs to your point before about how when you're home and you're on smule and on your microphone and you record, then you re record, then you re record. I, I can't tell you how many songs I've tried and got through like 11 recordings. I'm like, I'm not doing this one.
C
Honestly. My favorite one was when we were doing the pirate one and we were like drinking. I was drinking just rum shots with you, dude. By, by like the seventh take on I was friggin trash, dude. I was like, I couldn't even fucking get through it. But I did.
B
We should remake that song. So Joe and I are going to be in Vermont in January after Orlando and we are going to be hanging out with our, our buddy who's, you know, works with us and anyway, the three of us should be at your place and we should record that song dressed as pirates.
C
Let's do it. You know what? I'm glad that you're going to fly here and pack as much as you can fit in one suitcase and in there is going to be. Be a pirate costume.
B
It is going to be you.
A
You.
B
You think I'm joking, but I'm not.
C
Dude, I hope. I hope TSA stops you and, like, goes through your bag. I love that you have that handy. You know what? That's fantastic. You know what? Thank you, man.
B
Thank you, thank you. No, this one's not even that good. Here's where it's at.
C
Oh, dude, I love that it's right next to you. How did this happen?
B
Like, what else you got over there?
A
Like.
C
Like, I have. I have a pirate hat costume, but it's, like, packed away in the Thanksgiving drawer upstairs, you know?
B
Like, wait, wait. Why pirate hat costume packed away in your Thanksgiving? Like, not Thanksgiving. The family comes over and you're like.
C
Yeah, you know, wrong holiday.
B
Wrong holiday.
C
Yeah, yeah, No, I. I rarely dress up as a pirate for Thanksgiving. Just one. That one time.
A
All right.
B
I bring you cinnamon and apples. So coming up next, we have a long, long time. I feel like I just revert back to saying this exact same thing every time we feature him, but I'm gonna say it again. This long time member, he's been here with us since the very, very beginning. This is a moderator of the community, an absolute rock star in every possible sense of the word. The dude has amazing stage presence and amazing voice, and he actually records his own songs and put his own stuff out there. This is going to be Eric Dubrowski, and he's turning it up to 11 with a little Alanis Morissette. I mean, Alanis Morissette is always on 11. Yeah, and she's awesome. So this is going to be a little Mary Jane. Mary Jane evens marijuana.
A
All right.
B
Or maybe it actually means. I know I need to listen to the song. Maybe it means maybe she has a friend named Mary Jane. It could be anything. You know what? Let's. This is our homework. Let's listen and find out what the song's about.
C
Sounds good.
A
All right.
C
At least, right?
B
We'll find out. All right, this is gonna be Aaron Broski with Mary Jane by Alanis Morissette. Give it a listen.
A
What's the matter? Mary Jane had a hard day? As you place the don't disturb sign on the door you lost your place in line again what a pity you never seem to want to dance anymore it's a long way down on this roller coaster the last chat street car went off the track I hear you counting she forgets Mary Jane. What's the Point in trying to dream anymore. I hear you losing weight again, Mary Jane. You ever wonder who you losing it for? Well, it's full. Sweet baby in the wrong direction. There's a few more bruises if that's the way you insist on hitting Please be honest, Mary Jane. Are you happy? Please don't censor your tears your sweet crusader and you're on your way Your bless grace and that's why I love you so take this moment, Mary Jane and be selfish Worry not about the cars that go by? Cause all that matters, Mary Jane Is your freedom so sleep won't my dear keep trying Kill me What's the matter, Mary J? Kill me. Please be honest, Mary J. Tell me, tell me, tell me.
C
That was great.
A
Are you.
C
Did you stop the recording?
B
Oh, man, I stopped the recording. It was. Oh, I didn't stop the recording. The recording's still on. What are you talking about? This recording still cold. Totally going on. The recording is live. That was great. That was freaking awesome. And rock on, Eric Dubski, let me tell you. I. I also don't feel like that was like an 11 song wrong. Are you gone? Oh, did you. I think your thing froze. So Joe's screen froze, and he is just a image on a screen right now. So we're gonna do what we can here. And I am going to take over solo. Oh, my God. This is my chance. I get to be the star of the show and you must watch me. So here I am on my solo performance on Friday night, karaoke sans Joe again. That was Eric Dabrowski with Mary Jane by Alanis Morissette. And. Oh, Joe's gone. Oh, he's like actually gone now. Like the actual, you know, thing kicked him out or whatever. Oh, it makes me so sad. Again. That was Eric Dabrowski with Mary Jane Bylanta's Morissette. And a little 1995 action. When I was in. In high school, I used to listen to a ton of Alanis Morissette. I remember the video of her sitting in the car, you know. You know, singing. You ought to know. And it was just amazing in every way. And here's Joe again. And I just kept it going. Welcome back.
C
This whole time.
A
You know what?
B
It was actually the greatest thing in the entire world because for once, for just once, it was the mic show.
C
Oh, man. Dude, that is fantastic. By the way. I've been gone for like three minutes. You just didn't shut up for three straight minutes.
B
I just kept talking. You know, I said Eric broski's name like 17 times. I'm supposed to take, like, 17 shots of whiskey now.
C
You should be completely laying on the floor trash after three minutes with that.
B
At noon in Japan here, right?
C
Oh, my God, dude.
B
Yeah. So I did cheat and I looked it up online, and the song is about, like, you know, Alanis Morissette's, like, anxiety and all that, and it is about marijuana, so. Yay. We're promoting drugs on the Friday night karaoke podcast.
C
Damn it.
A
Damn it.
B
It's a restricted category. What are we gonna do? What are we gonna do? So, but, you know, we, I, I, you know, we message each other during that. We're like, this isn't necessarily an 11 song either. And. Yeah, I get it. I get it.
C
No, it's definitely. I mean, Jennifer and I clearly have differences in opinion when it comes to FnK11, the definition of that, but it was still a great song. He sang it great.
B
But if you turn up your stereo really, really loud, really loud.
C
Cranks. Yeah. Like, then you're like, Damn, Fnk 11.
B
Linus Morissette, Mary Jane version that we don't know about. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So to finish things off, you know, Jennifer Adams did put this list together for us today. Thank you, Jennifer Adams, for being such a rock star. And, you know, we are on our very last song. And to. To pay homage to and to thank for all this hard work. Rather than pay you money, we will put your. Your video at the end of our podcast. No, it's. It's actually, you know, she's an amazing singer. She's been part of the Friday night karaoke community since also right near the beginning. Just amazingly supportive of everyone in the entire community and us and agreed. Just kind of been an inspiration when it comes to singing and music. You know, the, the comments that she puts out there for. On your, on your songs, if she decides to comment on your video, it's not like, good job. It's like something meaningful or a story or something that you reminded her of or something that you didn't know about yourself. Like an observation from a third party. And you're like, oh, wow. Do people really think that that's awesome? Like, maybe I am good at this. Maybe I should try. In fact, I put up a song. This is a personal experience. I put up a song. It was a corn song or something. Or no. Sweet Dreams. It was Sweet Dreams by Marilyn Manson. It was my first time trying, like, a weird, like, screamy, like, you know, song like that. She was saying how, how awesome it was on the comments, and I'M like, can maybe I could do this? I tried another one and you know, a little like the little nudgy things that give you confidence that, you know, push you to try it again, again or do it again. And yeah, just one of the many great supporters of the community. And anyway, here is.
C
I remember I that was. That actually was a good place. I remember. I think my comment was, I like your shirt.
B
Nice hair. So the only thing better than listening to Alanis morissette is listening to Alanis Morissette twice.
A
No way.
B
Stop it Gonna be Jennifer Adams. Rounding out the Friday night karaoke podcast, episode number 74, season one. Episode one. Technically, it's Jennifer Adams with you learn by Alanis Moret. Let's all right, listen.
C
Great song.
A
Oh, hi. Recommend getting your heart trampled on. Anyone? Recommend walking around naked in your living room. Follow it down on your love time. You bleed, you love, your dream you love. B
Man, man, she's amazing. She really is. Like, it's so good. Like, like, you know, like this, the self duet and all that kind of stuff. I mean, it's just like there's so much talent, talent. And I'm so jealous of people with talent.
C
Oh, no, don't be jealous. You got talent, dude. But she's got great talent. She's got a lot of talent. She's got like a lot of yodel before. Yes. Yes.
B
Yeah. My daughter's finally getting into. Well, like, oh, that's.
C
My daughter's finally getting into yodel. Finally.
B
She must be almost 13. I scratch that. Reverse it. My daughter's getting into yodel, which is weird and awesome, but, you know, good for her. And you know, she's like, you know, sharing all these egg yoling videos with me and I'm like, cool, awesome. Like awesome. So good. Once again, Jennifer Adams, you learned by Alanis Morris said double the trouble on that Alanis action to finish off the Friday night karaoke podcast. Thank you so much to all of our amazing singers. A amazing performances, seven amazing Performances and a dude with big yellow hair.
C
Yes. Yes. He was my favorite.
A
Yeah.
B
So good. And this was.
C
That was great.
B
Turn it up to 11 week. Fnk 11 again. If you have not joined the Friday night karaoke, the Facebook group, just go to Facebook and please join. We would love to have you as part of the community. 43, 000 members strong. Could be 43,001 when you join today.

A
All right.
B
At this time of the podcast, we always will pick a theme for this upcoming week, and we have all kinds of ideas usually. And I'm kind of blank today, but we'll try. We'll try.
C
No, I. No, I think we're doing it. Fnk. Damn it. Like, what? You just record your. Record your song that you screwed up in the middle of the song, and you just.
B
I think. No, no, no, no, no. Fnk. First take. You can only. And you have to be honest. We expect you to be honest. First take. Every time. First take. Don't.
A
Don't. Don't be.
B
Don't be a jerk and be like, you know, recorded 22 times and be like, oh, my God.
C
Oh, my God, I can't believe I nailed it on the first try. I nailed it and everything.
B
And you're like. Like, I just. I can't even believe I did that. I'm just so good. No, like, first take. All right. I want to hear you crack your voice. I want to hear you freaking totally mess up a lyric, mess up all.
C
The lyrics, and just screw it up and be like, you know, you don't have to finish the song. Just get as far as you can until you're so frustrated. When you're frustrated enough that you can't sing anymore and you're like, damn it, you stop it. That's.
A
That's the.
C
That's when you click, upload.
B
Hey, little thing, come and grab your handle because your mama. Anyway, that's it. Thank you so much. Friday night karaoke. It was great. Recording an episode again. Yes. I don't get to hang out with you enough. A pleasure.
A
Yeah.
B
I mean, it's always business. It's always work, work, business, business, business. But it's good hanging out, just listening to some good music, some good tunes from some good people. So we'll see you all on the Friday night karaoke Facebook group until hopefully next week. Later, Mike and Joe out.
A
Peace.
In this electric season 4 opener (episode 74 overall), hosts Mike Whiston and Joe Rubin bring FNK's signature energy back after a hiatus with the "Turn It Up to 11" theme—a celebration of high-energy karaoke songs that get the adrenaline pumping. The episode features eight unique performances by passionate members of the Friday Night Karaoke Facebook group, spanning genres, decades, and personal singing styles. Beyond the karaoke showcases, Mike and Joe offer their signature witty banter, discuss the growth of their community, deliberate what "turning it up to 11" means to different people, and share memorable group moments—ensuring both new and veteran listeners feel right at home.
The show kicks off with Paul Bright's dynamic rendition of "I Put a Spell on You."
Mike and Joe banter about technical difficulties and celebrate the return to FNK after months away.
Theme explanation: "Turn It Up to 11" invites members to submit any song that feels like an 11—power ballads, stadium anthems, or simply songs that make the singer feel most alive. The interpretation is intentionally open.
"Like one person's 11 is another person's 6 or 20 … my 11 is like a normal person’s 3." – Joe ([05:17])
Powerful opening performance with soulful execution.
Mike expresses nostalgia for both the original and Bette Midler’s "Hocus Pocus" rendition.
"Not only was he amazing at delivering that song ... you almost forget that it has all this soul to it." – Mike ([03:33])
First-time podcast feature for Neil, who nails the classic with impressive vocal range.
"He just freaking knocked that one out of the park. ... What a set of lungs on that guy. Holy crap." – Mike & Joe ([10:35])
Discussion of cover versions (Five Finger Death Punch), the recurring karaoke theme, and a note that Neil won the week’s community contest.
Mike features himself, living out his metal frontman dreams. Performance described as high-energy, even exhausting.
"It's like a workout, man … you turn it up to 11, you better bring your freaking energy, right?" – Mike ([17:33])
Joe praises Mike’s stage presence; both reflect on discovering alternate versions of classic songs via karaoke.
"You were born to be a front man of a metal band." – Joe ([17:50])
A newcomer captures the spirit of live karaoke with a raw, unedited bar recording.
"She did it beyond justice… made it hers. And it was that live karaoke, nonetheless." – Mike ([26:17])
Conversation about “Karaoke Fails Week” idea—celebrating imperfect, real, and one-take performances. ([27:24]–[28:28])
Another first-time feature. Strong Elvis impersonation, though hosts question if song fits the “11” theme.
"He's really good. That should have been in the Crooners week for sure." – Joe ([33:49])
Scott tackles the tough vocals of AC/DC with gusto. Mike notes how difficult it is to imitate Brian Johnson’s style.
"He summoned Brian Johnson on that one… that was 11." – Joe ([41:40])
Mike humorously notes Brian Johnson’s singing style sounds a bit like Elmo.
Long-time member, moderator, and consistent performer Eric brings an emotional Alanis track.
"Rock on, Eric Dubski… amazing stage presence and amazing voice…" – Mike ([46:52])
Hosts admit it’s not a traditional “11” energy song, but celebrate heartfelt performances regardless.
Group admin Jennifer closes out the episode with a self-duet and the second Alanis song of the day.
Mike delivers heartfelt thanks for Jennifer’s community support and encourages more singers to join.
"She’s been part of the Friday Night Karaoke community since also right near the beginning … just one of the many great supporters of the community." – Mike ([55:53])
Tease for next week: “FNK Damn It” or “FNK First Take”—a challenge to post unedited, imperfect recordings.
Encouragement to share vulnerable, messy creative moments.
"When you're frustrated enough that you can't sing anymore … that's when you click upload." – Joe ([63:36])
On what “turning it up to 11” means:
"Like one person's 11 is another person's 6 or 20 … my 11 is like a normal person’s 3." – Joe ([05:17])
On karaoke's discovery power:
"The amount of music I've discovered through this group is insane. It's more than I've discovered on Spotify." – Mike ([19:30])
On live, unedited karaoke:
"Live karaoke … you've got one shot to not mess this up." – Joe ([27:14])
On community and support:
"If you're not part of the Friday Night Karaoke group on Facebook … just go to Facebook, you type in Friday Night Karaoke, you look for Friday Night Karaoke, the group, and you click on join. Answer three questions and you are in. And the largest negativity-free, ad-free group on Facebook dedicated to a love of music." – Mike ([12:23])
