Brooke Miccio
Hello you guys. What's up?
Danielle Peazer
Welcome back to Gals on the Go podcast. I'm Danielle.
Brooke Miccio
I'm Brooke.
Katie Austin
And I'm Katie Austin.
Brooke Miccio
We are joined by Katie Austin, model, fitness expert, just gorgeous chef.
Danielle Peazer
I mean, she does it all. Like I'm out here trying to make all these recipes you post on Instagram. They look so good.
Katie Austin
Thank you. Thanks for having me. And I just want to say kudos to you guys because we were talking earlier. Y' all have been doing this since 2018 and it is so hard for longevity in anything. And so I just want to say I'm so honored to be on and I love listening to you guys. You guys are amazing. That is. Oh gee. Podcasting, baby.
Danielle Peazer
That was so nice that you just.
Brooke Miccio
Start off with such a compliment. I know.
Danielle Peazer
It can come back on any time, Katie. Seriously. No, it's crazy because like I. You have a YouTube channel, right? Like, are you. That's how you started?
Katie Austin
Yes, it's how I started. So I started basically, for those who don't know, I have a fitness app. And you know, I was in college and I was a Division 1 athlete. I guess we'll just get right to it, please. I was like, okay, here's my life story.
Brooke Miccio
You could just tell us everything about it.
Danielle Peazer
No, we can tell them, but I'd rather come from here.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah.
Katie Austin
So Basically I was D1 athlete. I'm from DC, went to USC on a scholarship for lacrosse. And while I was there, I kind of realized, okay, my dream is to be in front of the camera. I wanted to be the next Erin Andrews. I studied sports broadcast and, you know, I always just thought I had to have the traditional route of having a sports broadcast role. And so, you know, I interned for different networks and media sites and did a lot of work for free, as you probably know. And basically at the same time I was doing that, I moved on from lacrosse and I was having this hard time figuring out what works for me, basically. And I realized when I was going to the college gym after I moved on from lacrosse for two years, I didn't know what to do. And I was Division 1 athlete, yet here I am, no coach, have no idea how to work out, was intimidated by the gym, always worked out for four hours a day and had to learn how to work out, basically not training for my sport. And I was like, wow, there's probably a lot of girls out there like me. So I kind of dueled it from 2014. I'm aging myself here. From 2014 or 2015. I dueled being, you know, a sports host and doing virtual workouts on YouTube, but also, you know, community led workouts, doing my sorority sisters and everything like that. It just kind of became a career from there.
Danielle Peazer
No, it's funny because I, I think of you as like in the OG YouTube realm because, like, when we were on YouTube doing it all, like, I remember seeing your videos just on the side as well, and I'd watch them and I was like, oh, I can just do this at home easy. And now obviously you have your app and you have like, really elevated the whole brand, which is sick. But like, I do think of you as like a YouTuber. I don't know why you do.
Katie Austin
I remember when we were on a brand trip, that was my first ever brand trip, Miami, in Miami. And I literally, by the way, it was really freaking cool. But that was like, that was the first beginnings, I think, of being a full time. I was even really full time, maybe like more going towards being like a full time influencer, a creator, if you will.
Danielle Peazer
Okay.
Katie Austin
And getting really, really out of that, you know, hosting sports background and. And a lot of that came from honestly me just having weird embarrassment over being like, I'm a creator on social media. And now it's so prevalent, obviously. But back in 2017, 20, 18. I needed to say I worked for Fox Sports west, which I did. I need to say that I worked for the NBA, for the NFL, and for all these, you know, media companies rather than owning everything myself. And so it's so fun and cool to see how it's evolved and how much I can fit hosting now into my everyday life, but in my own content.
Danielle Peazer
It's so cool. I mean, like, literally, we're at the ACMs last week, like, oh, there's Katie Austin on the carpet over there. And then you do stuff for sports too. Like, that is just so sick. You really paved your own way for this.
Katie Austin
Thank you. I know. I just did the ACMs last week and I interviewed Danielle and it was so much fun. So I've been doing also so random, just country music hosting.
Brooke Miccio
What's the connection to country music?
Katie Austin
I have no idea. My best friend used to live in Nashville for, you know, I would say three years. And she's like my best friend of all time. And since I was a child. And so when she lived in Nashville, I'd visit her like once a month because I have separation anxiety. And I just got so into country music in Nashville. This is like, again, going back, I don't know, 10 years ago. And so I'd go to Nashville a lot and I'd meet a lot of people in the music industry and I started just hosting for random things. And I did the CMAs for three years now. And this ACMs, which was so fun.
Danielle Peazer
So fun.
Brooke Miccio
What's the difference between the two.
Katie Austin
Versus Academy of Country? So Academy is like, I mean, that's like, you know, it was pretty legendary. This last time. It was the 60th anniversary of it.
Brooke Miccio
Got it.
Katie Austin
Yeah. Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
The country lore is I'm a little behind. Do you go to Stagecoach?
Katie Austin
I didn't go this year.
Danielle Peazer
You went last year. I think I've seen you there before.
Katie Austin
I've been in the past for sure. Again, I don't know why I'm. By the way, I'm just gonna say I'm 31. You probably have a huge Gen Z audience, so it's probably seeming.
Danielle Peazer
No, it's very much so.
Katie Austin
But I feel like I'm like at a point in my life where festivals don't really get me going as much as they did in my 20s. I feel like my 20s. And by the way, I am. I love to party, I love to go out. I had a glass of wine before this podcast and I love that. But a three day Festival on my feet. And it's.
Danielle Peazer
It's a drag.
Katie Austin
It's. It's amazing. And no shade against it. And I wish I had that energy and stamina still, but, you know, it's hard.
Brooke Miccio
Oh, I can't do it all.
Danielle Peazer
And I feel like you do a lot.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah, I'm tired talking about doing a lot. Okay. I. I'm so curious on your A day in Katie's life, and I know that no two days are the same, but, like, I feel like you just do so much and you have a busy day because you're so. You have your app.
Katie Austin
Yes.
Brooke Miccio
You have just everything else that. Because then you're posting like, free content on social media too. Like, which I feel like it's so nice that you do that.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah. I'm like, thank you for that dip. I should eat on Super Bowl Sunday. Like, thank you.
Katie Austin
Yes.
Brooke Miccio
I love it.
Danielle Peazer
Thank you.
Katie Austin
So I wake up and it truly is. Every day is different. And I travel so much. Like last week I was in Dallas. Then it was my cousin's wedding. Then I'm here in New York and I'm going to Miami. And so I do travel a lot. I would say there's a few consistent things that always stay the same. Of course. Working out. If I'm home, I'll wake up around 6, 6:15. Oh. Start my workout by 7:00am I'm a morning workout.
Danielle Peazer
Damn, you are.
Katie Austin
I have to. Sorry. Or I will do it or I will not do it. Like, come 3pm I'm tapped out.
Danielle Peazer
Oh, no. I think we're aligned on that.
Katie Austin
Yeah, for sure.
Danielle Peazer
It's just the like 6am part. I can't.
Katie Austin
It's hard. But once you start doing it, you feel so good and you go to bed early. Yeah, I'd probably say 10:30.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah. Like hard 10:30.
Katie Austin
Yeah, yeah, yeah. After I scroll on TikTok for 30 minutes. Yes, absolutely. And then I make myself breakfast. I always eat breakfast. Love breakfast. Have to have it or I will become a demon and have coffee. I usually walk my dog. By the way. Going into straight detail for you, Brooke, I love the. Really going to nitty gritty.
Danielle Peazer
This is what I need.
Brooke Miccio
Because I feel like you're someone like that I would actually, like, want. Like there's. There's a few people in my life who I'm like, I want to emulate you because, like, I like, seriously, everything that you've done and built, like, it's so impressive. So, yeah, please keep going. Yeah. So I need to start waking up at 6:15. Basically, yeah.
Katie Austin
It's honestly a great time because then you can. I usually start work by 8:30. I'm still working as I'm doing a lot of things if there's anything urgent, of course, but I'll start work by 8:30 in the morning like every day and really do a lot of admin work, editing, figuring out like what programs and workouts are launching for the Katie Austin app. We have so many events coming up. I do like four. I'm doing four events this month. And so I organize for the events and workout classes and everything. And then I have usually a team meeting almost every single day, which has been really fun to grow a team for, you know, around the whole KA brand. I went from, you know, one person to now four and so grown a lot, which has been wonderful. And yeah, and then I shoot workouts. I shoot a recipe almost every, I would say three times a week. And then I, you know, break it down, edit it and feel. Feel it out with what I have to do. And yeah, a creator, random stuff. And then, yeah, usually have to fit in laundry. And this sounds really insane. And everyone's gonna be like, yeah, no shit. Are you allowed to cuss. Yeah, yeah, yes. Everyone's like, no shit. But like something that's changed my life is scheduling in my daily tasks like laundry and cleaning and going to the grocery store into my calendar as if it's work or literally I will be a mess. Like my closet is so bad. So I will schedule it. Like, okay, I have to clean from 5:20 to 5:40. And that's just how I have to do it and schedule it in because that's how I work. I like that I won't do the task.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah, it's cleaning rather than like making like a laundry list, if you will, of like all these things you have to do. Like, okay, no, like I see that gap in my day. Like that's when we're doing laundry. Or that's totally. I need to do that for grocery shopping.
Katie Austin
Also. The gaps in your day are so important to take advantage of you guys because if you have, say you finish a call at 2:17 and you were supposed to have till 2:30, you have 13 minutes. Maximizing your time is so important. And you can. Do you say that too?
Brooke Miccio
No, we literally had this today. And then I called Danielle in the meantime. I was like, well, while we have.
Danielle Peazer
Brooke, I'm in my gap right now.
Katie Austin
You're productive. Exactly. Like taking the extra time and you realize how much time you can get back. I always Love to do. I love to fit in. Whether that's like filming a quick little thing or editing something that was in the middle of before the call. Just making sure you take advantage of that. Not like scrolling so much on social media.
Danielle Peazer
That makes complete sense. When you want to wind down, like, what. Other than scrolling. We all scroll to wind down a little bit. But, like, do you have, like, are you like, I need to go for a walk. I need to listen to music. I feel like you like to dance.
Katie Austin
Like, I love to dance.
Brooke Miccio
I feel like you and your fiance are both also, like, productive, like healthy people.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
Do you do stuff together?
Katie Austin
He's like. Like, if you want to emulate anyone, actually, he's like, scary. He's like. He's like. He's more like the 4:35am Wake up cold. So that's why I like sauna for 45. Like. Like red light therapy for 20. Meditate for 30. Like, wow. No, like, actually it's too much. And I like to be like, what's doable for me.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Katie Austin
I can do tiny little bits of these things, but absolutely not that whole entire thing. Because that's.
Danielle Peazer
No.
Katie Austin
He's crazy.
Brooke Miccio
And that's why I appreciate where you're coming from.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Katie Austin
Finding what works for you is really important. But yeah, I. I love.
Danielle Peazer
Do you read?
Katie Austin
And that's really.
Danielle Peazer
If you don't read.
Katie Austin
No, I. I really should. I really should read. And I should do like, crossword puzzles and stuff like that. My brain for brain camp. But I probably go for a walk mostly. It's great for my mental health, honestly, you guys. I cook and that's how I wind out. My favorite thing to do in life is when my husband gets home from work. It's like 7:00pm I'm like, almost done. We pour a glass of wine. Or maybe we're trying to, like, come back a little bit. So like a mocktail or something. And we play music and we. He really actually is a credit to him. He like, forces me to put my phone away for at least like 30 minutes to an hour. Just like vibe out between us to break down the day. And that's probably my favorite way to wind. I'm very inspired by this because, honestly, I love movies and TV shows, but I also have a attention span of a squirrel.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Katie Austin
So I have to, like, be talking to someone because clearly I just. That's all I do.
Danielle Peazer
You have so much to say. Yeah. Steve. Reef from the day. That's really cute. So, like, when he's at work and out like, are you guys like texting or. No. You're like, let me just save it.
Katie Austin
For, you know, we're both really busy. He actually likes calling me a lot more. He like, will update me after.
Danielle Peazer
You're like, okay, save it.
Katie Austin
And I'm like, amazing. I have to go right now.
Danielle Peazer
Thank you.
Katie Austin
Bye. I like to save it for later. He likes to tell me in the moment. He's like, over communicator. I'm an under communicator.
Danielle Peazer
Okay. Hey, there needs to be one of each.
Brooke Miccio
Yes.
Danielle Peazer
You know, to find that happy.
Katie Austin
Absolutely.
Brooke Miccio
And I just said fiance and I fully met husband. Because you had.
Katie Austin
I didn't even notice.
Brooke Miccio
I think I'm pretty sure that slipped off the top.
Danielle Peazer
You said, I didn't know.
Brooke Miccio
I feel like I'm like, wait, I just said fiance because then I was thinking about your wedding and like how you had this. That also was another like, vision. I was like, okay, like the projection onto like that is. I remember seeing that. I was like saving this for later.
Danielle Peazer
Bridesmaids dress were like a yellowish color, right?
Brooke Miccio
Yeah. It's amazing. What like.
Danielle Peazer
No, Brooke and I are really into weddings right now. Cuz like, we're starting to have a lot of weddings in our friend groups and stuff. So now we're just like, love that detail. Love that unique touch.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah.
Katie Austin
Wow. And then wait, you guys have. Right?
Brooke Miccio
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Katie Austin
So like, maybe you're on something.
Brooke Miccio
Totally.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah. It's like you think about. Okay. Like it's starting to enter that phase of like, this could be me eventually. So you're like, totally.
Katie Austin
You start to take mental note.
Danielle Peazer
Oh yeah.
Katie Austin
Every wedding you go to.
Danielle Peazer
Exactly.
Katie Austin
This weekend, right?
Danielle Peazer
Yeah. This weekend.
Katie Austin
Yeah.
Danielle Peazer
Next weekend.
Katie Austin
Yeah. No, you have a. You guys are starting to hit it. I, I hit a few years ago and I had 17 in one year. And let me tell you, I was not mentally well. Like, if you caught me on like a Monday or a Thursday, Friday, I, I, you can't on weddings. And a lot of them are our close friends and I'm from the east coast, so when I live in la, so I would fly across the country. It takes out. You have to fly on Thursday. And so I can't work on a Thursday and Friday and then I'm tired on a Monday. Me and my husband were like, oh my God. And also it's so expensive.
Danielle Peazer
Yes, I'm sure. You became a professional wedding guest.
Brooke Miccio
Were you in a lot of them too?
Katie Austin
Yes, I've been in over 10.
Brooke Miccio
It's literally 27 dresses. Yeah, that's yeah.
Katie Austin
Crazy. I have a. I have a wedding. I'm a bridesmaid in a month. Yeah.
Danielle Peazer
Where do you find your wedding guest dresses? This has been my new thing.
Katie Austin
You know what my favorite new shop is?
Danielle Peazer
Please tell me.
Katie Austin
Please send me free gifts after this. I literally buy everything and I DM them so many times. Mesh key obsessed. They have quality, they have good colors. I actually just got my. One of my bridesmaids dresses on Meshke. I love it. I'm. I'm going to, you know, Europe and I'm getting like, all my clothes from there.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah. Okay. That's a good reminder. And they're like a pretty fair price point. It's like not expensive thing depends on, like, what it is, but some things are pretty fair.
Katie Austin
Price we were talking about earlier is so chic. Yeah. And, and it looks, it's, it's really high quality. It's not going to, like, fully break the bank, but it's not the cheapest thing.
Brooke Miccio
Totally.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah. That's so true. Meshki does have really cute stuff and they have good, like, cutouts for, like, vacation.
Katie Austin
And I've been on Meshki for years and I feel like other people are finally. I mean, by the way, if you're listening to this pic, I've been on also Meshki. It's not like freaking like, you know, a super boutique here, but like, all my best friends are finally finding it and I bought a dress and my best friend was like, oh, my God, I saw it, a mesh key, and I was like, damn it.
Brooke Miccio
It's like they found it. No more gatekeeping.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah, I know. That is indeed the worst. Okay, well, that's. That's very good to know. I appreciate that. Summer's around the corner and I'm already planning my next trip. I can't lie. They are making fresh from the blender smoothies and beachside bites that are made just for you. It's like, like a wellness retreat for your taste buds so you can grab some tropic goodness at Tropical Smoothie Cafe. All you need is 15 minutes with the Bahama Mama to feel that vacay glow. The Bahama Mama smoothie is really, really that girl. But personally, when I was growing up, I would always go to Tropical Smoothie. This is something that I feel like it's part of the Brookman Gio lore. Honestly, I feel like when I got my license, this was like my number one most visited location. And I just have such a nostalgic connection with the jetty punch, the strawberries and banana smoothie. It' so refreshing. It literally transports me. I feel like, you know, I'm in New York, but I feel like I am on a beach somewhere. It's giving coastal, it's giving warm. Like Tropical Smoothie Cafe and summer just truly go hand in hand. If you're stuck in a lunch rut, Tropical Smoothie Cafe is the holy grail of grab and go lunches. Tropical Smoothie Cafe brings the goodness with these amazing made to order smoothies and food. Visit Tropical Smoothie cafe.com to find a cafe near you.
Danielle Peazer
Well, so you're here in New York. We're so grateful. I feel like you come to New York a good bit.
Katie Austin
Like I do every coastal once a quarter for sure.
Danielle Peazer
Once a quarter. Yeah.
Katie Austin
I was just here in March.
Danielle Peazer
Okay. Yeah. You teach classes here? We've come to your fitness classes before.
Brooke Miccio
Yes. No. And I have to say, like, if you guys get the pleasure of taking a class because so when you do Community events. Will you do some, like, live teaching?
Katie Austin
Yeah, I'm doing actually two in the next two weeks. Yeah. Community. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Brooke Miccio
If you get the chance, like, something about it, like, in person. I mean, like, amazing virtually too. But I have to say, like, in like, you're just so inspiring and like the.
Danielle Peazer
You have like an aura.
Brooke Miccio
Yes. That's what it is. It's a presence. Yes.
Danielle Peazer
And like, it's exciting because I remember the class I went to or. Yeah, Brooke, you were that where we were the yellow sets. Or maybe you went to a different one. Yeah. And you, like, called out my name and then. Oh, like, it's very nice. So thank you.
Katie Austin
Can we debate this actually?
Danielle Peazer
Oh, yeah. Let's talk about it.
Katie Austin
Do you like your name being called out in a workout class or not? Because I always like, I'll call. So when I called, like, say I called you out in the class, but obviously it's friendly and it's like more like an influencer style class. But, like, is it a bad thing I'm calling someone out in a class or you don't think it keeps you going?
Danielle Peazer
You're like, I don't even know if she sees me right now, but the fact that she said I'm doing a good job makes me feel, Oh, a good job.
Katie Austin
Yes. I will never be like, oh, my gosh. I would never be like, yeah, you're.
Brooke Miccio
Not doing a good job.
Katie Austin
No, no, I'll always be like, yes, Danielle, like, that was amazing. You're crushing it here. But like, like, I guess in a lot of workout classes, I guess we can debate, like, do you like being called out? Because some people are like, shy, obviously.
Danielle Peazer
You mean a good call out. You mean a good call out.
Katie Austin
Yeah, yeah.
Brooke Miccio
My thing is no one knows that. It's like, I don't. I don't go to workout classes typically with friends. So no one knows when you say good job, Brooke, I'm the only person who knows broke.
Katie Austin
Something. My husband and I have been going to yoga at 7am on Mondays recently. Just because, like, you know, I'll do even my own workout, like for 20 minutes afterwards, whatever. But it's yoga, so it's like really needed for my body because I'm so not flexible. And we go together, right?
Danielle Peazer
Sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet.
Katie Austin
For the last few times that we've been going, we've gone together. I literally next to my husband every time. And the trainer always just calls out, nice job, Lane. Crushing it, Lane. Good to see you again, Lane. And I'm Literally doing the plank next to him or doing that move next to him. And I'm like, it's the second time she's called you out.
Danielle Peazer
This is personal at this point.
Brooke Miccio
What's going on?
Danielle Peazer
Do they know your name? They must.
Katie Austin
I don't know. I have no idea. But how do they know?
Brooke Miccio
I feel like you need to, like, both go up after class and be like, by the way, like, this is.
Danielle Peazer
Maybe he paid her. He's like, hello. He's like, call me out.
Brooke Miccio
That would be really funny.
Danielle Peazer
He has, like, a deal with the instructor to make him look really cool. No, I. I think I really like when someone says my name same. You know, if. If, like, I'm not doing well. Like, let's not point it out. Not that you would ever do that. But, like, Brooke recently had a situation where she got sat in the front row, and she didn't want the front row. And the girl kept taking that as, like, oh, you want to be corrected.
Brooke Miccio
And I was like, no, I don't know what I'm doing. Like, And I. And not in a way of, like, I want to be corrected, but, like, let me just figure it out on my.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
You know? Yeah.
Katie Austin
So if someone's like, if we are doing something and someone's especially paying for a class coming to my workout and they're doing something different, I will never call them out and be like, follow the lead. Because they paid for that space to come and, like, do what they want. Feels great for their body. Like, I literally had a class and the girl was, like, doing jumping jacks where, like, holding a plank. I swear. Wow. No, that was. I think maybe after you didn't know, but literally jumping down while we were holding a plank or something, like, so vastly different.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah.
Katie Austin
I'm like, you know, she just wanted cardio.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah.
Danielle Peazer
Like, she clearly knows that's not the move.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah.
D
Oh, that's right.
Katie Austin
Whatever works for you guys. Whatever works.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah, it's a free for all, I guess. I mean, I've definitely been in hot yoga where people just, like, sit in child's pose or whatever. Like, they're just like, yes.
Katie Austin
That's.
Brooke Miccio
You know.
Katie Austin
Also, do you. I love you.
Danielle Peazer
It doesn't matter.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
I feel like you can do that there. I like being called out. I don't like the over correction. Like, I feel like you see me struggling just.
Katie Austin
Just kind of let it or gently say it go over you softly and say it. And if you still don't get it, just, like, leave it be.
Brooke Miccio
As long as I'M not hurting myself.
Danielle Peazer
I was going to say, like, I do want to know if I need to be talking. Like, let me know if I need to talk. Like. But that's it.
Katie Austin
Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah. But I feel like you feel it in your own body. Most times when you're like, that doesn't feel right. Like, you know, on your back or.
Katie Austin
Something is just not making someone feel uncomfortable. Because I have feel like. Like, I know that feeling so hard when I was just starting to go to workout classes or starting to go to the gym and feeling uncomfortable and someone calling you out like that.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Katie Austin
And literally crawling in my own skin and being like, I can't do this anymore. And that's literally why I started doing in home workouts, because I felt uncomfortable. And I. I still sometimes feel uncomfortable. Like, sometimes I'm like, how do people go to an influencer event? Like, they're really. I get social anxiety going to them. I've taken. Like, I'm gonna sound so ridiculous, but, like, like, courage to go to an event alone. Like, it does take a lot of. Like, a lot of courage for me to go in event alone. I know I'm, like, very talkative. I'm very. I seem very social, and I am, but, like, to get out of a comfort zone, you just never want to make someone feel uncomfortable, you know?
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Katie Austin
Sorry I turned that. So serious.
Danielle Peazer
No, I love it. I also. One thing I do love when instructors do is if they're gonna correct you, you know, they move the mic, you know, so no one else can hear. Like, yes, okay. And everyone back to that. I want to send.
Katie Austin
Okay. So it's just our little secret.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
Y. Like, wink at you. And they're like, yeah, got you.
Danielle Peazer
I got you. No one else needs to know you were doing the completely wrong thing. But. So, like, you're saying you come to New York a lot, you teach these events, whatever. So you're here right now because this is your. Is it your fifth year? An SI model?
Katie Austin
Crazy.
Danielle Peazer
So cool. Like, your husband's probably like, damn, my girl's a model.
Katie Austin
He's also like, okay, five years. It was really cool, the first two.
Danielle Peazer
All these launch parties now.
Katie Austin
I mean, he's obviously still, like, loves the photos and loves everything and so supportive. It's just. I actually brought my mom this year because he's like, all right, I've been to four.
Danielle Peazer
I've done them.
Katie Austin
Yeah, I'm. I'm so. I'm bringing my mom this year, which is really special. It's so. She's so Excited. Oh, my gosh. But I'm really excited to be back. I mean, we have amazing cover girls. Every year they add some new models to the issue who just like, girls who really represent the brand and are just like, awesome, awesome girls. So excited to. Yeah. To be here, to be in the magazine and for. Also for those just, like, who don't know. Basically, Swim Search is kind of an open casting call for Sports Illustrated swimsuit, and they never opened that up before 2017. I always kind of wanted to be an issue and I was really a model, so I'm not really. I would never, like, really say, like, I'm a model. You know, I don't go to castings. I'm not like, signed or anything. So what I always wanted to be, like, representing the athlete and, you know, the more the normal non model. I don't know.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah. An SI model. Like, that's such a specific genre that I love.
Katie Austin
Such. Thank you.
Danielle Peazer
I know, exactly. You're an SI model.
Katie Austin
Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
I feel like it's people who have other things going on, honestly. I'll say it. I feel like that's what I admire so much about them. Like, these are people who lead, like, such cool lives. Like, I love Xandra. She's a dj. Like, I love, like, people, like, they just have their own living things.
Katie Austin
Absolutely. Yes.
Danielle Peazer
Yes.
Katie Austin
Like Camille Caustic. Like, they all. They're all so unique and they all stand for something. Yes. I always wanted to be one. And so basically I first auditioned in 2017 when they opened up a casting call. And that year, Camille Caustic won and she was the first ever winner of Swim Search. And now she.
Brooke Miccio
Wow, that's sick. I didn't know that.
Katie Austin
And so Brooks Nader, she came from Swim Search. How we all audition. My year, there were 20. Only 22,000 girls auditioned, and I tried out for three years beforehand, since 2017. I finally tried out again in 2020, and by the point, it was like, this is my last shot because it's embarrassing if I keep doing it. Like, I posted it because you have to post it.
Brooke Miccio
Right.
Katie Austin
I'm like, literally, like. Like, it's one of those Elle woods tapes. Hi, I'm Katie Austin. I want to be in Sports Illustrated.
Brooke Miccio
Like, that's literally like, if you look.
Katie Austin
Back, they're like, so cringe, but also so cute and so naive.
Danielle Peazer
Oh, my God.
Katie Austin
And so I finally won in 2021, and I won with my best friend, which has been honestly the most emotional experience. I could literally cry thinking about it, because winning with your Best friend and someone who's become so special in my life. Shout out to Kristin.
Danielle Peazer
I was gonna say this is Kristen.
Brooke Miccio
So you were friends before that.
Katie Austin
So we knew of each other before that. And then we. We just got really close from, you know, winning together. And so, you know, now we, I mean, do a lot together. And she's, like, truly my best friend. So I think the experience doing it together has brought me so much joy because it really is to me. And I know it sounds so lame, like, it's such a cliche word, but, like, the sisterhood of it. Because I work alone every day. Right. I'm so alone in my. A lot of the things that I do. And so to have kristen and go through some of these things and also a lot of these girls are, like, real models. And Kristen's been in the modeling industry for, like, you know, 15 years and, like, you know, like, showing me the ropes and, like, how cool it is to, like, get glam done. Oh, yeah, we're gonna go to go to, like, a stylist appointment. And I'm like, this is so fun. It's like a different. I like just being involved in, like, a different world of what I normally am.
Danielle Peazer
How. And, like, we can cut this if you can't say it, but, like, how does it work? Like, how are you just, like, in it every year? Do you have to, like, That's a really good question.
Brooke Miccio
I always wondered that.
Katie Austin
Yeah.
Danielle Peazer
This is your. Just keep going.
Katie Austin
Kind of wait to be invited back. So you don't know. And, like, I literally, you know, Zoe's sitting here for my team and I. You don't know. Every single year, it's like, it's. You just really. You actually have no idea if you're going to be invited back or not.
Danielle Peazer
You can't do, like, another swim search, obviously. No, like, good.
Katie Austin
So if I was. I mean, like, I've been invited back every single year, thank goodness. Actually, if you're rookie of the year, that automatically means you're invited back. So when I won in 2021, Rookie of the year, I was automatically invited back. So that's kind of like, you know, that first year really helps because, you know, winning that because it automatically means you're invited back. But I think just like, aligning yourself with the brand values is really important. And, like, you know, that first. That call when you get invited back is just like the first because I remember, you know, it was pretty late this year, to be honest, and you're kind of like, am I gonna be invited Back. I don't really. Maybe. Yeah. I mean, the team. I'm so, so close to the girls in the team. It's like, yeah, you know, but you never know. You really never know. And so when you get that call, you still, like, I literally scream at the top of my lungs, like, how.
Danielle Peazer
Much time do you have? Like, when they call you, then it's like, now you fly here and you do the secret, private, private shoot. And, like.
Katie Austin
Yeah, so I used to have no time. So it got longer and longer. But the first year that I went, I had, I think, like, 12 to 14 days to be ready for an SI shoot, and I was going to Montenegro, and I was. It was my first year, and I was just like, oh, my gosh. And then I. This year, I had, I think, a month and a half, so it's gotten a lot longer. But, like, anywhere between that range, for sure. Yeah.
Danielle Peazer
Wow, that's sick. And is it MJ Day who calls you? Or it's someone from the team?
Katie Austin
No, it's someone from the team.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah. We would like to have you back.
Katie Austin
Yeah.
Danielle Peazer
I'm so there.
Brooke Miccio
Danielle's waiting for her call.
Katie Austin
She do it.
Danielle Peazer
Like, tell me everything.
Katie Austin
I'm the biggest advocate in the whole wide world to, why not try to do it right? Like, why not submit yourself now? They've had this whole process where you can actually do it offline and not post it on Instagram, even though I highly suggest it.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah, no fair.
Katie Austin
You can actually submit your tape, like, through their actual submission, like, entry system.
Brooke Miccio
And they actually. They look there. How many they look through?
Katie Austin
So many through them. I promise you, they look. Look through all of them. I've been on phone calls with the team afterwards. They're like, we just watched 200, and they do it in increments and, like, actually watch them, and so why not try? This is in my audition tape, and it's so lame, and I love my quotes, but you miss 100 of the shots that you don't take.
Danielle Peazer
It's true. It's true, it's true.
Brooke Miccio
I would agree with that. And I feel like all the girls who are part of. I mean, this is me, an outsider, like, perceiving it.
Danielle Peazer
All the girls.
Brooke Miccio
All the. All the girls.
Danielle Peazer
Brooke and I. All the girls. No, but. But I think we have a pretty good idea of what the people want to know.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah. All the girls are like. Like, it seems like I. Like, I know the girls, even if I don't, like, actively follow every single one of them. I feel like when you post like the Sports Illustrated girls. Like, it's like, it's such a, like a girl group. Like you guys are such a good community.
Katie Austin
It really is. And I feel, you know, I keep saying, oh my gosh, cliche things but like women supporting women. And that's actually how it feels because sometimes I feel like this industry can be very competitive.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah, I'm sure.
Katie Austin
But there's really no competition with SI because you're already in it when you're in it for that year. Right. It's not like you're like competing for anything and true. You know, and, and at the end of the day it's, it's not like sports where you can like be someone on the field and sprint harder or like train harder in any of that way or even like really work harder. It's just, it is what it is. And so I feel like there's really not that competition in that way. And we're also different, like genuinely, we're all so different where we have different things that everyone supports. Right. Like we all really genuinely bring another brand message to the table. And I think that's also. And something else that SI really does well and I've really, really kudos to them is they pick such nice girls. Oh, like everyone is so genuine and freaking awesome and like they can smell it from a far away but they're not like a genuine nice girl. And so I think that also really helps because like their choices of who they bring into the tight knit community are also so kind and they know they'll be supportive. Right. So I think that helps too.
Danielle Peazer
Well because you guys, I noticed like, you know, a few of them did like the baseball game and then some of you guys do a panel. There's like the Empire State Building, there's all these different things. Is it like sign up who wants to do this? Or is it like, I'm like, oh.
Brooke Miccio
Is there like a sign up?
Danielle Peazer
She's like, I'll do this during launch week, I'll do that. Like how does that all work?
Katie Austin
So that's a lot to do with location based. So me and a few of the LA girls, we did the news in la. Oh, you know, they're in and here in New York as well. But it's kind of just like what fits, you know, the brand and they're, they're really good at it. So they know who's good at talking on a panel and knows, you know, for me I do a lot of the workout classes. So this weekend I'm teaching a lot of the workout classes for, you know, Si. And then Camille's moderating a panel with, you know, makeup by Kellyanne. So it's like, you know, there's, there's. There's different ways and how they use our strength to the best of the ability.
Danielle Peazer
I love that. I love that it's not just like one size fits all. It's like, okay, this is her strength. This is her. We want to highlight this totally for them. Oh, my God, that is so fun. And all the outfits and stuff with before your shoot that you did, where was your shoot this year? Remind me.
Katie Austin
She was in Bermuda. It was, I think, my favorite year yet. Just because I'm so content in my life and I'm just so genuinely happy with where I'm at. And I. And even my husband said it. He's like, this is my favorite year because you can just see how happy you are even if I'm not smiling.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah. Like, smoldering, actually.
Katie Austin
It's just like, all ass. It's like, it's just like ass. And I'm like, doing it, but so.
Danielle Peazer
Happy with my life.
Brooke Miccio
I'm literally thriving.
Danielle Peazer
I've learned a lot about the art of wearing the right bra for every outfit. Honestly, Brooke has taught me a lot. I've definitely been on a bra journey, and I'm like, wait, bras are amazing, especially if you're using skims. Specifically the Skims ultimate bra. It's been my favorite for those moments where I want to feel a little confident and supported, like, with a really cute. I like to wear, like, tank tops and mini skirts every now and again. And, like, if I don't have the right bra on, it just, like, isn't a vibe. It's not hitting. So the Skims ultimate bra is amazing because unlike other push up bras that can be very bulky and heavy, this one lifts and supports in the most natural, flattering way. Trust me when I say that the key to any good outfit starts with a good bra. Like, I have really come a long way. Some people hate underwire bras, but I actually love them. I have the ultimate teardrop push up bra, and no outfit is complete without the Skims ultimate teardrop push up bra. Like, underwire bras can elevate an outfit. And the technology of this bra is amazing. It mimics the shape of a full bust. And this bra is exactly what I've been looking for. I wear this bra all the time. It's just that good. So shop the Skims ultimate bra collection and more@skims.com after you place your order, be sure to let them know we sent you select podcast in the survey and be sure to select our show in the drop down menu that follows. Is there like a fitting before? Is it like you get there and.
Katie Austin
We'Re fitting, you get there and there's a fitting. So I actually shot with Brooks this year and we did matching suits, suits for one of the shots, which was so fun. Shot with a cover girl. You know she was a cover two years ago. She's just such a hoot too. I freaking love her. And we did the fitting together, so it was really fun.
Danielle Peazer
Oh, that is so fun. And so it was just you two There. That time.
Katie Austin
Yes.
Danielle Peazer
Because it's like every location, there's like one or two or three.
Katie Austin
Well, there's other girls there, but our day is just us too.
Danielle Peazer
Okay. Your day?
Katie Austin
Yeah.
Danielle Peazer
Wow. It's just so interesting how they form.
Katie Austin
Yeah, I know.
Brooke Miccio
Do you random question, like, do you get input into the outfits? Like, or are you just kind of like, hey, like, hit me.
Katie Austin
There's a theme. So every. So even in Bermuda there was two different themes and then, you know, at each, like, in Jamaica there was a theme and in Switzerland there was a theme. And so they always have these themes every single year. And every location is different. And so they basically are like, okay, you're gonna be on this theme. I think mine was like, like goddess themed.
Danielle Peazer
Which was like, yeah, I'd say you're a goddess, Katie.
Katie Austin
So wait, was it. Am I making that up? Ah, I think I'm not. I think that was goddess themed. Anyways, I'm kind of getting like all my years messed up.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah. I don't know what. I was a goddess.
Katie Austin
I kind of forgot what I did last Friday.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Katie Austin
Basically they'll say, like, here is everything you can kind of choose from. And Margot, she's amazing. She's had stylist there. She'll be like, these are the suits that look amazing on you. Or I think will. But of course, feel free to look through the others, see if anything catches your eye. And like, of course now year one, I'm not going to be like, I hate this bikini, Take it off me. But in year five, I'm like, like, yeah, Margo, I don't like this. Can we, can we switch it out?
Danielle Peazer
Yeah, that's fair.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah. Because you feel more like vocal.
Katie Austin
Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah, that makes total sense. You learn. Yeah. And you wear a lot. Like, I was looking through the pictures. How many Alpha J.
Katie Austin
Usually it was a day, just ourselves. So the past years I've had like, I think 20. 22, maybe a day. No, 20 a day. 22. 20 bathing suits. I. I think around 18 to 20. But this year I had eight.
Brooke Miccio
It still is. Like, that's a lot of like, changes. Yeah. Throughout. And is it a full day shoot?
Katie Austin
Yeah. 4:30am to 7:30pm and you're like.
Danielle Peazer
And is the water, like cold?
Katie Austin
Freezing. Absolutely freezing. I, like had frostbite, basically. No, there was an end shoot of a grotto and it was amazing. And maybe I shouldn't say this, but I'll say it. Me and Brooks in the middle of the shoot. Not in the middle. It's more like 4pm There was a bar right outside the grotto and we're like. So we get pina coladas. I think during our shoot they're like, they're like resetting up the kind of the area to go down into a grotto. So we're like, you know, we're kind of like waiting 30 minutes. So me and Brooks and we get a little rum topper. And I said if I didn't have that pina colada and rum topper, I literally would have froze because I sat in this water. It was gorgeous. You can see the photos and I. I'm like floating and I have to like, like basically go underwater like multiple. Multiple times. About 35 minutes. And it was so cold. But thank God for that rum topper.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Katie Austin
Got me through.
Danielle Peazer
I think. It really did.
Katie Austin
And I was shivering for almost 45 minutes afterwards.
Danielle Peazer
Wow. And then they give you like the foil blanket. I had the wrapper cane.
Katie Austin
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Danielle Peazer
I've seen the photos. That's so. Wow. I think that's really genius that you did that too because also, is there like makeup touch ups in between every.
Katie Austin
Time you're going every time between every single look, there's makeup touchup, hair touchup, makeup touchup, oil, body oil, touchup.
Danielle Peazer
Oh my God, the oil.
Katie Austin
Yes.
Brooke Miccio
Do you know what body oil they use? Do you not have the various.
Katie Austin
Jody Boland. Shout out to Jody Boland. I think she uses. Oh my gosh. She's. It's really expensive. I know that she said, oh, I've been using all my son selling on you. I'm horrible.
Brooke Miccio
If we figure it out, we'll put it in our newsletter. I'm once again selfish question. I'm always looking for.
Danielle Peazer
You know what my selfish question is? And this is a little tmi so you can be like Danielle, I plead the fuck the bikini lines. How are everyone's bikini lines Perfect.
Katie Austin
Wait, are you a laser girl?
Brooke Miccio
Oh, oh, oh, not the tan. Oh yeah, your tan lines. Everybody loves a tan line.
Danielle Peazer
I love a tan line. I'm like, like everyone's bikini lines are perfect. Is that the right word?
Katie Austin
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I love TMI too. So I have always been a shave girl because I, you know. Yeah, basically I'm not a sword illustrator swimsuit model as of 2020 20. So I've just always shaved. Right.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Katie Austin
Never really. Anyways, fast forward. It is 2021 and I'm still shaving. And I am new to spray tans as well. I'm again new to this whole shaving and spray tan industry. So what do I do? It's right before the Miami Swim week show. I shaved. 20 minutes later. Get a spray tan. Anyways, I didn't realize that the spray tan goes right into the pores and it illuminates them. And I'll send y' all a pic if you want to really just make a big crot shot on your video right now. And it was in Daily Mail, and they have a ton of comments on she can't shave her pubes or look at that bush. And. And I mean, by the way, horrific photo. They really illuminated my.
Brooke Miccio
Where did the photo?
Katie Austin
And I had no pews, by the way. I had none.
Danielle Peazer
No, I know what you mean.
Katie Austin
Purely smooth. It was the pores and this and the freaking. It was not.
Brooke Miccio
It looks like literally before the event, what was it?
Katie Austin
This was. Was for Miami swim Week. Walking down the Runway and I'm smiling. Oops. And I'm smiling with like, you know, my legs open like this. Literally zoomed in on my badge and literally looks like I have illuminated pubes. Like, horrific. All the comments are like, she can at least, like, take care. Get a wax. And I'm like, from that day on, Danielle, I've gotten laser hair removal every six weeks because. Traumatized a trauma. Wow.
Danielle Peazer
Well, I've never. I never saw that. That content I didn't know about. Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
No, because.
Danielle Peazer
Well, that is. I always think about this. I'm like, these girls, like, because, like.
Brooke Miccio
I know they're all perfect.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
And you're really up close and personal, I feel like.
Danielle Peazer
And it's really.
Katie Austin
Yes. And I'm a hairy girl. And so laser has really changed the game for me. But I still need to keep it up. Like, I have to keep it up or it'll come back within four months.
Danielle Peazer
Like laminated puke. I know exactly what you're talking about, too, because it, like, looks like.
Brooke Miccio
No, I'm kind of dealing with that a little bit. I self tan. I. I did shave yesterday, and then I self tanned over it. And I'm dealing with. It's in my pores, but it's on my leg, so it's less, you know, annoying. And it'll go away in a day. It goes away.
Katie Austin
It just is spray tan the day of. Right. It was just. You live and you learn. You gotta live and you gotta learn these lessons.
Danielle Peazer
Oh, my God, I hate people.
Katie Austin
Life lessons of bikini lines.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah, bikini lines. Not to be confused with the swimsuit. Tan lines. Tan lines.
Brooke Miccio
Yes. Do most people do. Do most people do laser do you.
Katie Austin
Know, like, what most people do? Laser or like, sugar?
Brooke Miccio
Yeah, I tried that one time. I literally almost had to leave. Like, it was so.
Katie Austin
Also, lasering is not painful for me.
Brooke Miccio
Really?
Katie Austin
No.
Danielle Peazer
Do you have a high pain tolerance?
Katie Austin
No, I don't think so, but I don't think laser is. It doesn't feel like I haven't done anything. Okay. But you know what changed the game for me?
D
What?
Katie Austin
Oh, my God. I'm so. TMI too.
Danielle Peazer
No, this is like what I want.
Katie Austin
To talk about, if you want to go tmi. I. Anyone who knows me knows this. I, like, kind of smell.
Danielle Peazer
Okay.
Katie Austin
Like, on it. Like, I, you know, I'm not, I shower. I'm not obviously dirty. It's just, I struggle with bo. I work out a lot. Also just jeans of like. And also it's so gross. Tmi, you just, like, have a little bit more BO when you're on your period and just disgusting. I could shower and five minutes later put on deodorant and, like, kind of smell and it's just like, oh, I don't smell you. Just for the record, lasering underarms has really helped me not smell. If you guys ever, like. And I. And also you have to use your natural deodorant for at least six weeks before it kicks in.
Brooke Miccio
But I've been on, yeah, I'm on it constantly. On a journey with the natural deodorant. Like, I, I, I've committed to it. But, like, you see it.
Katie Austin
I know it's tough. It's a really hard thing to commit to, I will tell you that. But I think lasering armpits really does help.
Danielle Peazer
Okay, that's good to know. Or have you tried the. Don't you do Botox? You can do Botox for your pits.
Katie Austin
I don't actually.
Danielle Peazer
That's just sweat as much.
Katie Austin
It's just like my odor.
Danielle Peazer
That's good that you like.
Brooke Miccio
No, but that's so self aware. Aware because then you can, like, be.
Danielle Peazer
Real with your friends and be like, hey, I know I smell. So, like, if I start to smell, like, please tell me. Like, don't like, say it behind my back and be like, katie stinks. Like, I want you to just. That's actually good that you're.
Katie Austin
Yeah. Thanks, guys. Thank you, guys.
Danielle Peazer
Well, because I'm always so I was somewhere recently, I was like, oh, my God, do I smell? And I'm like, what if everyone here thinks I smell and no one told me? Like, I want to know.
Katie Austin
Well, that was the worst. The worst part about COVID When I couldn't smell or whatever it was, and I was like, dude, no one. If no one. The biggest part about, like, you're losing your taste, your smell is no one. I can't smell my own self.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah, you have no idea.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah, no one knows too much. Yeah, I get that. I feel that with my breath. That's why I've been like. We carry around, like, the breath spray. I've been. I don't know why that gets me sometimes. I'm like, everyone knows my breath smells except for me. Like, I commit myself.
Katie Austin
I think we overthink it, though. Like, you know, I think, like, obviously I don't smell as much as I think I do.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Katie Austin
Whatever it was. But I think we overthink everything. And that goes for everything in life. No one really notices as much as you notice.
Danielle Peazer
That's so true. And I appreciate you being very real in TMI with us because I always, like, have been so curious about that. And that's funny that you had that experience that then led to laser.
Katie Austin
It sounds like there's a photo afterwards.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah, I can't wait to see it.
Danielle Peazer
I, like, can't imagine. I mean, I haven't seen this.
Katie Austin
I'll show you guys a photo of my crotch after. I'm sure you're dying to see it.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah, no, I'm dying to see Katie's crotch, actually. Well. Well, we normally do this at the top of the episode, but we totally forgot because this is just what happens. But I would love to know your current favorite. Like, what you're loving right now. We can kind of talk about it.
Katie Austin
It can be anything.
Danielle Peazer
Anything, anything.
Katie Austin
What I'm loving right now doesn't have to be tangible. Okay. What I'm loving, like, in this current moment, I cannot stop thinking about the Last of Us, the TV show.
Danielle Peazer
Oh, with that. With Pedro Pascal.
Katie Austin
Yes, yes, I've heard of this. I will not say a word about what has happened.
Danielle Peazer
Oh, my God.
Katie Austin
But I can't stop thinking about season two, Episode two. And if you're listening, you know, I've.
Brooke Miccio
Heard two things about this. I heard number one, that's based on video game.
Katie Austin
What?
Brooke Miccio
Did you know this?
Katie Austin
Yes, I know nothing.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah, it's like a niche. Not niche, but like, I don't know, it's not like you're playing Mario and then you're playing this game. Like, I think it's like a in depth one and then number two, that it's dark.
Katie Austin
Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
Is it a dark?
Katie Austin
Very dark. I mean, okay, it's like Also, the zombies aren't regular zombies. They're like. If you have any sort of phobia against like worms and holes, just don't watch it because the zombies are like really, really disgusting and like can trigger some. I don't know. My best friend can't watch it because she has some phobia and like it's real. Like it's. It's. Zombies are gross. Real gross.
Brooke Miccio
Do you like shows like that? Like are you into like usually sci fi, what even?
Katie Austin
Yeah, usually. No, usually I like the rom com type. Like light. Light hearted.
Danielle Peazer
Oh, so this is a big change.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah.
Katie Austin
But sometimes the light hearted doesn't fully like get me immersed in the show. Like tune out for a second. You still know what's going on in this type of show. I have to be like fully immersed in it. You know what I mean? To like really.
Danielle Peazer
You watch it with Lane?
Katie Austin
Yes, of course.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah, those. That's a good show. Like you need those shows to watch with you.
Katie Austin
I can't really watch it alone too.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah.
Katie Austin
No, yeah. No, no, no, no. It's scary.
Danielle Peazer
Okay.
Katie Austin
In my opinion, I don't do like scary shows.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah. Either. Brooke kind of dabbles.
Katie Austin
Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
Like I'll do Black Mirror. Do you ever watch Black Mirror?
Katie Austin
No.
Danielle Peazer
Oh, yeah.
Katie Austin
Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
Like, but that's like. But that's like it's kind of Thriller vibes, I guess. It's not really like monsters. Like it's more.
Katie Austin
It's more like real life things that could happen in the future.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah.
Danielle Peazer
Trippy.
Katie Austin
That's kind of scary.
Brooke Miccio
I don't know like why. Like that doesn't scare me that much. But like a ogre, like showing up like kind of does.
Katie Austin
I don't even know why I'm entertained or like, like it. Because I'm not kidding you. I will pace around during the episode. Pace around, like close my ears and like go like this. Like I'm child watching it. But I'm.
Brooke Miccio
But it's good.
Katie Austin
Like I also love Landman. Been a huge fan of Landman.
Danielle Peazer
I haven't heard of this either.
Brooke Miccio
My parents told me about this. They. They watched. Is it. It's like a niche TV show kind of. Right.
Katie Austin
It's kind of like a Taylor Sheridan. I think it's, you know, a Texas oil guy. And it's a whole show.
Danielle Peazer
Oh, it's one of those oil.
Brooke Miccio
Reagan.
Katie Austin
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ranch or something. Yeah.
Danielle Peazer
And last of us. It's on like Sunday nights. Right. Like it's nice you can sit and watch.
Brooke Miccio
Like I do schedule.
Katie Austin
Totally.
Danielle Peazer
Delaney's watching it right now. She's like, I gotta go. Like, last of us is on. I'm like, oh, that's the whole thing.
Katie Austin
I guess another thing that I'm obsessed with is to go blush. Like little like blush sticks. Oh, cute. I was just looking at you and I was like, I'm obsessed with like blush.
Danielle Peazer
What do you use? Or is it.
Katie Austin
I just actually got the makeup by Mario 1, but my favorite is dibs.
Danielle Peazer
I was gonna say. I feel like you're a dibs girl.
Katie Austin
I am. I am.
Brooke Miccio
Actually.
Katie Austin
I really like the dipstick because it's.
Danielle Peazer
Like two sided and it's creamy.
Katie Austin
I just like use it with my hands.
Brooke Miccio
I like cream makeup in the summer. I like totally forgot about that.
Katie Austin
But it's like, it's the best. And also I, in my opinion, like, blush definitely like leaves your face. And it's like the one thing if I'm doing a workout class or anything, I just put a little bit of blush on and makes me like, look.
Danielle Peazer
Give a little refreshed.
Katie Austin
Yes.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah, to go blush. I'm gonna start popping my blush.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah, to go blush. Oh my gosh. I. I literally forgot about what my favorite.
Danielle Peazer
I think I know I'm not gonna ruin it for you.
Brooke Miccio
No, I'm like, oh yeah, sneakers. I thought that this was applicable to talk about with you, Katie, because I went to a running store this week and like did the whole. They didn't have like the new technology to like scan my foot or whatever. I also don't run. Let me start by saying that like I went to running store. I don't run. I don't really plan on running. But you want to run comfortable shoes.
Katie Austin
I mean walking.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah, yeah.
Brooke Miccio
I'll go for like workout walks where I'm like an hour plus, like, you know, so I'm like, I need a running shoe for that, I would say. And she told me that like a mid cushion would be best for me. I don't even know what any of these things mean. I guess that is what I had was my hoka Clifton 9. But now they have the upgraded version, the Hoka Clifton 10.
Danielle Peazer
Oh, we're so.
Brooke Miccio
I know, I know. It's like I feel like it's a piece of technology. It's literally a sneaker. Like one of the new features. It's a little more like bouncy, I guess. I think she was like, the drop is steeper. Don't know what that means.
Katie Austin
Sales like an iPhone. Like they just always upsell you on like, yeah, charger. In the phone. And yeah, yeah, they're like.
Brooke Miccio
I mean, your nine is fine, but.
Katie Austin
Look at how you walk 11. That 11. They're like watching your gate.
Danielle Peazer
They're like, your gate's better.
Katie Austin
Like.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah, they're like, you look more.
Danielle Peazer
Right.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah.
Katie Austin
Actually, the funny thing about sneakers is, and I didn't realize until recently. Not recently. I would say, like, last five years, you need new pair of sneakers like, every six months.
Brooke Miccio
Yes, this was learned.
Danielle Peazer
Yes, this was learned.
Katie Austin
Again, don't know if it's marketing. Don't know if it's good for your actual, you know, body.
Danielle Peazer
Right?
Brooke Miccio
Oh, yeah, no, it is. I mean, you can kind of feel like when the cushion starts to, like, be worn out. Like, I feel like when you're like, these used to be, like, kind of light and more plush.
Danielle Peazer
Yes.
Brooke Miccio
And now they started to go. But that's if you, like, use your running shoes like that pair every day.
Katie Austin
I do. No, I can't really, like, I guess relate to that. And I don't know because this sounds like, really annoying. I have just so many pairs of sneakers only because I film a workout video every. Almost every single day. And so I have like a whole, like, closet of sneakers and workout shoes. So it's my job, it's my career. So I wear a different pair so much that no one shoe ever gets too much use out of it. You know what I mean?
Brooke Miccio
No. That's smart. Then you're spreading out the love.
Danielle Peazer
Once the temps start rising, I realized I was back in the same worn out rotation. Same tank, same shorts, same everything. So I gave my daily uniform an upgrade with Quinn's. Their pieces are easy, elevated, and somehow make me feel more put together without even trying. Like 100 European linen shorts and dresses from $30 Luxe Swimwear, Italian leather platform sandals, and so much more. The best part, everything with quince is priced 50 to 80% less than what you'd find at similar brands. By working directly with top artisans and cutting out the middlemen, Quince gives you luxury without the markup. And Quince only works with factories that use use safe, ethical, and responsible manufacturing practices and premium fabrics and finishes. I love Quince. I have used it not just in the summer, all throughout the seasons. My mom loves it to get her linen and her, like, really pretty clothing. I have, like, all kinds of things from Quince. I have a beautiful cashmere sweater, and then I have this really cute little jewelry storage thing that I bring for travel. Like, they kind of have everything. And like I was saying earlier, it's just incredible quality for the price. Like I have some lovely cashmere socks that I love to wear. Treat your closet to a little summer glow. Up with Quince. Go to quinns.comgals for free shipping on your order and 365 day returns. That's Q-U-I-N C E.comgals to get free shipping and 365 day returns. Quince.comgals now, y' all know there's always.

More to the story. And on the Tony Brienne TV podcast, we break it all the way down, whether it's viral moments currently shaking up on the Internet. Blake Lively has been acclaimed the American dream girl for quite some time now. And now it seems she's America's most hated pop culture phenomenon. Everyone's talking about or deep dives into stories that deserve much more attention. These black women are getting pregnant by people that we also consider to be lower than them. I'm here to give you the full picture. Genuine insights and conversations with mainstream media often overlooks. Some women are getting so many fillers and Botox injected into their face that they don't even realize how crazy they can potentially look. Here we explore different perspectives. To a lot of people, Kylie looks a lot older than she really is. And above all, we speak the truth. That is not okay. And that should get you registered as a offender. You must check out the Tony Brienne TV podcast. You don't want to miss what's coming next.
Brooke Miccio
What can, can you give me like a top few? Because I feel like I just stick to what I know.
Katie Austin
Let me plug it. Easy Spirit by Denise Austin shoe. It's rocking. It's amazing. It's basically, it's, it's a nice, more affordable version of Hoka in my opinion.
Danielle Peazer
I think I have this pair. I didn't realize that was by your mom.
Katie Austin
So comfy. And they're affordable. They're affordable, they're square. And everyone always says, where'd you get your shoes? My mom. My mom's shoeline. They're amazing. Yeah. And the New Balance, I love my New balance because I just feel like they're a street shoe but also like, you know.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah.
Katie Austin
No, I don't know what it's called, but I love just like a dad looking shoe.
Brooke Miccio
Okay. No, yeah, yeah. And will you work out in those too?
Katie Austin
Not like cardio. I'm just like walking the dog. Sure. If I'm just doing like maybe a toning workout. Usually I just do it barefoot, but. But yeah, yeah, yeah. I guess sometimes what other shoe do I like?
Brooke Miccio
No, I don't mean to put you on the spot. I just stick to what I like. It's sketchers. Yeah.
Danielle Peazer
Sketch.
Brooke Miccio
No, I'm here for Max Comfort, too. That's the thing. Like, the look of it. Yeah, but you could also just pick a color you like.
Katie Austin
So sketchers, honestly, kind of.
Danielle Peazer
They're kind of on their comeback right now. They. Sketchers.
Katie Austin
I like sketchers.
Danielle Peazer
Wow.
Katie Austin
Sweet.
Danielle Peazer
Okay. Obsessed. You here first. From Katie. Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
Men do it.
Katie Austin
Laughing at me in the back.
Brooke Miccio
No, no. Giggle, giggles. Thank you.
Danielle Peazer
I'm realizing that maybe I've talked about this before, but I need to bring it up again. As summer approaches and, like, you're in the pool or you're at the beach, then you need to get ready really quickly for, like, 10. A beachy dinner or whatever it may be the color. Wow. Speed Dry Blow Dry spray is so good. I used it today. I had 45 minutes for my hair to be dry, and I just got, like, longer hair extension. Like, I just have a lot of hair. I've been told by hair. So I was like, I just keep finding hair. I'm like, okay, well, it needs to be dry anyways. I sprayed this all over. It's supposed to dry. Decrease your drying time by 30.
Katie Austin
What?
Danielle Peazer
Yes. And I do believe it. It doesn't, like, smell the best. Like, it doesn't smell bad. It just, like, doesn't, like, smell like, you know, like a good hair product. Yeah. But I, like, do my heat protectant and all that, and then I spray this on top, and I swear my hair dries so much faster. And, like, I just have so much hair. Not. Not my real hair, but extensions. And I needed to drink.
Katie Austin
Wait, I've never even heard of this before.
Danielle Peazer
Amazing. It's like.
Katie Austin
Yes. Nice color.
Danielle Peazer
Wow. Color wow is very innovative.
Brooke Miccio
Wow.
Danielle Peazer
They have really cool stuff. And this is the Speed Dry Blow Dry spray.
Brooke Miccio
It looks fab.
Katie Austin
Yeah. I also would never know their extensions.
Danielle Peazer
Wow.
Katie Austin
I ever.
Danielle Peazer
I'm so happy.
Katie Austin
It blends.
Danielle Peazer
So my guy.
Katie Austin
And in real life, like, you would literally never know.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah.
Danielle Peazer
Undetected, that's exactly what I want. And it's just really nice. Like, I feel like, especially in the summer, you're just like, I feel like I'm washing my hair a little bit more. And then you get ready fast. It's just the getting ready. Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
Can we talk about how many products, like. Okay, so you add that to your repertoire of, like, products you put in your hair before you, like, style it yourself. I feel like I'm already at like four things. Like, how many more do you guys, like, put a lot of things in it. Like, I feel like I have like an oil, a leave in conditioner, and then a heat protectant. And then I'm like, I'm already at so many. Then we gotta close it off with hairspray. I don't know if I'm doing it correctly either. I just am like this. I'm like, just pouring on my eyes.
Danielle Peazer
I haven't gotten into the moose thing. Like, if someone does. I know you do that. And it always look so good. I just do leave in conditioner and then a heat protectant, and then I only use this if I'm in a pinch, but I should just use it every time.
Katie Austin
When is the best time for you guys to, like, get rid of a product? Because I feel like, you know, with that I will try, like, basically I'll go home and I'll buy that and I'll try it out and it's like, I'll be on it for a little bit and then like, I don't know, something else when it leaves. Yeah, when do you, like, leave the rotation for makeup or for a product? I. I think I would give myself.
Brooke Miccio
Like four months of committing to it for four months.
Katie Austin
And then just like, kind of just naturally. Not like I don't like it anymore. Just like naturally phasing out.
Danielle Peazer
Yeah. Or it like runs about. And then I'm like, I'll just try like a new brand for the. Yeah, I know. Yeah, probably same. I have like, foundation. Like, I really have just been loving this day. A lot of double wear. So, like, I haven't left that. But then there's like, other. I don't know why I just plugged them.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah, okay. Okay, I'll stay longer.
Danielle Peazer
Hashtag. No. But then there are other things. I'm like, I'm just kind of like, yeah, let me try a different blush. This one's working great. No, it's actually over consumption. But, you know, that's just what.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah, but it's hard to figure out. In your routine, we always say like. Like, it's like an experiment. Like, you know, you're like, what's the control? What's the. Like, I don't. I. I don't know if that product is working because I use five, so how am I supposed to know?
Katie Austin
Like, that idea for me, for my skin, I just like, never know what's really working. And I have, like, really bad melasma. And so I just try new things on like, my melasma, and I'm like, what's actually working? And, like, how long do you need to stick to it? And I know it's hard saying with.
Danielle Peazer
Natural deodorant, got to give it six weeks.
Katie Austin
Weeks, you know, certain things. I know, but that's a commitment to smell.
Brooke Miccio
Yeah. What do you, like? Oh, my gosh. You, like, apologize. Yeah. You apologize to the people around you in class. Like, trying out a new natural deodorant, like in a hot yoga class.
Katie Austin
Can you imagine?
Danielle Peazer
Sorry, guys.
Katie Austin
Just give me six weeks. I did. I really did. No, no, no. Anytime I was teaching a class, like, I literally would be like, sorry, guys. I. I think literally you were there. And one of them, I was like, hi, guys. Sorry. By the way, if I smell, I'm testing out a natural deodorant. Anyway, so, yeah, anyway, I'm the type of person that has to, like, say something before anyone else is thinking it.
Danielle Peazer
I love that, though. I think it's important to. I just.
Brooke Miccio
You're so real.
Danielle Peazer
You're so real for that. Well, this was so much fun. Katie, I'm obsessed with you. We love you on G. Where can everyone follow you, find you, support you, everything?
Katie Austin
Yay. Okay, well, you can find all my workouts and recipes on the Katie Austin app. And it's just my name, and I have 450 workout classes virtually of, you know, strength, pilates, low impact, cardio, lots of programs. We just came out with a new program, actually. It's 20 minute workouts a day for 20 days. So it's very doable, realistic. And then I have recipes on there, of course, which I love. My nutrition recipes. I do. You know, I drop two recipes a week and then on Instagram, just Katie Austin. And on Snapchat. Katie Austin, do people still plug Snapchat?
Danielle Peazer
Yes.
Brooke Miccio
You apparently are a queen on Snapchat. I've heard this from multiple people.
Katie Austin
What?
D
Yes.
Brooke Miccio
No. My manager was like, love, love her Snapchat. He saw you speak at a Snapchat summit or something. I feel like you are like the face of Snapchat. I'm not even exaggerating. I feel like, no, no.
Danielle Peazer
Heck yeah.
Katie Austin
Random.
Brooke Miccio
But thank you. Few times I've gone on the Explore page on Snapchat, like, it is your videos. I'm like, oh.
Katie Austin
Snapchat as well, then crushing it.
Danielle Peazer
Snap Fluencer.
Katie Austin
Yeah.
Brooke Miccio
No, like, it's engaging content. I mean, I get hooked. I'm like, okay, sure.
Danielle Peazer
Perfect. Let's go along her day. Well, Katie, once again feeling very motivated. Just thank you for being so real. As we were saying. And check her out in Sports Illustrated this week.
Brooke Miccio
Yes.
Danielle Peazer
So exciting. And we'll see you guys. We'll see you guys next week.
Brooke Miccio

Podcast Summary: Gals on the Go – "How to Be a Sports Illustrated Model with Katie Austin"
Release Date: May 21, 2025
In this engaging episode of Gals on the Go, hosts Brooke Miccio and Danielle Peazer welcome special guest Katie Austin, a multifaceted personality known for her modeling career, fitness expertise, culinary skills, and entrepreneurial ventures. The conversation delves deep into Katie's journey to becoming a Sports Illustrated (SI) model, her daily routines, challenges faced in the modeling industry, and her invaluable advice for aspiring models.
Katie Austin opens up about her unconventional path to becoming an SI model, which began with her passion for sports and broadcasting.
"I wanted to be the next Erin Andrews. I studied sports broadcast and always thought I had to follow the traditional route of a sports broadcast role."
(02:33)
Despite her aspirations in sports broadcasting, Katie found herself transitioning from being a Division 1 athlete at USC to exploring new horizons after leaving lacrosse. This period of uncertainty led her to discover a passion for fitness and content creation.
"I started doing virtual workouts on YouTube and community-led workouts with my sorority sisters. It just kind of became a career from there."
(02:30)
Her dedication paid off as she balanced her roles as a sports host and a fitness influencer, eventually leading to her recognition and involvement with Sports Illustrated Swim Search.
Katie shares her structured daily routine, emphasizing the importance of scheduling and maximizing productivity.
"I wake up around 6:15 AM. I start my workout by 7:00 AM because I'm a morning workout person. Once you start doing it, you feel so good and you go to bed early, around 10:30 PM."
(07:20)
She highlights the necessity of treating daily tasks like work commitments to stay organized and efficient.
"Scheduling in my daily tasks like laundry and cleaning into my calendar as if it's work because that's how I work. I won't do the task otherwise."
(09:00)
Additionally, Katie emphasizes the value of utilizing small gaps in the day for productive activities rather than wasting time on social media.
"The gaps in your day are so important to take advantage of. Doing something productive versus scrolling on social media can add up significantly."
(10:06)
Katie discusses maintaining a healthy work-life balance, especially in the demanding world of modeling and fitness.
"My favorite thing to do in life is when my husband gets home from work. We pour a glass of wine or make a mocktail, play music, and disconnect from our phones to vibe out and break down the day together."
(11:03)
She also touches upon the dynamics of communication in her relationship, balancing her over-communicative fiancé with her own under-communicative nature.
"He likes calling me a lot more. I'm like, amazing. I have to go right now."
(12:52)
A significant portion of the conversation centers around Katie's experiences with Sports Illustrated Swim Search, detailing the audition process, selection criteria, and the camaraderie among models.
"Swim Search is an open casting call for Sports Illustrated swimsuit. In 2021, I won alongside my best friend, Kristin, making it the most emotional experience because it was a sisterhood moment."
(26:21)
Katie explains the rigorous selection process and the honor of being continually invited back due to her outstanding performance as a Rookie of the Year.
"Rookie of the Year automatically means you're invited back. Aligning yourself with the brand values is really important."
(28:02)
She also shares insights into the diverse roles SI models undertake, from hosting workout classes to participating in panels, showcasing their unique strengths.
"Every location is different. At Bermuda, I had a goddess-themed shoot. They allow us to choose from various outfits, especially after multiple years where I can now give input on what suits me best."
(37:00)
Katie candidly discusses the challenges faced in modeling, particularly dealing with bikini lines and public scrutiny.
"After a shoot for Miami Swim Week, my bikini line was illuminated in a way that sparked criticism. It was a traumatic experience that led me to pursue laser hair removal every six weeks."
(40:11)
She emphasizes the importance of self-care and accepting one's body, sharing her journey towards finding effective solutions to personal insecurities.
"I struggle with body odor and initially felt self-conscious about it. Laser hair removal has significantly helped me feel more confident."
(43:20)
Katie offers heartfelt advice to those looking to break into the modeling industry, stressing the importance of perseverance and authenticity.
"Submit yourself even if you think your audition tape is cringe. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
(30:08)
She encourages aspiring models to align themselves with the values of the brands they aspire to represent and to build genuine connections within the industry.
"Women supporting women is crucial. In SI, there's no competition because you're already part of the community. We're all different and genuinely supportive of each other's unique strengths."
(30:36)
The conversation takes a personal turn as Katie shares humorous and relatable stories from her modeling career, including mishaps with spray tans and the realities of maintaining a flawless appearance.
"I had a spray tan accident that made it look like my pores were illuminated. It was featured in the Daily Mail with the worst comments, pushing me to switch to laser hair removal."
(41:08)
These moments highlight Katie's openness and ability to laugh at herself, fostering a relatable and authentic connection with listeners.
Katie discusses her favorite beauty and fitness products, offering recommendations to the audience.
Skims Ultimate Bra:
"It's the best. It lifts and supports in the most natural, flattering way. A good bra is the key to any good outfit."
(33:18)
Blush Sticks:
"I love the dibs because it's two-sided and creamy. It leaves your face looking refreshed."
(48:43)
Sneakers:
"I wear a different pair of sneakers every day to spread out the wear and maintain their quality."
(50:38)
The episode wraps up with Katie Austin expressing her gratitude and enthusiasm for her modeling journey and upcoming projects. She invites listeners to follow her on various platforms and explore her Katie Austin app for workouts and recipes.
"You can find all my workouts and recipes on the Katie Austin app, and follow me on Instagram and Snapchat for more content."
