Not a single 10 from IGN. I see a lot of tens in the audience though. There's a lot of shirts that say 10 is what I mean by that.

I see a lot of 11 out of 10 off the charts.

It's been A while since we have a full new game get a 10 last year Elden Ring, Shadow of the erdtree got a 10. Much deserved not a full standalone game. And then our re review of Stardew Valley got a 10.

So you got to go back to 2023 which is pretty, pretty good year for Baldur's Gate 3 Tears of the Kingdom, Resident Evil 4 Metro Time Remastered which ended yeah, that was a pretty good year.

So anyway notes in this year by lots of great games and I think you know when you when you host enough game of the year watches you start to get a sense when there's a clear front runner. I think there's a clear front runner so far this year but I didn't want to assume so I polled the game scoop audience. I went to the Facebook group and I polled them read let's pull up this poll because I think the data shows there's a very clear front runner. It is Clair Obscure Expedition 33.

I think it's a Claire front runner.

I am old and so I played a lot. Too old for Metroidvania, little too old for Metroidvanias. Old enough to know what a sequel is which is not Final Fantasy Games anyways and I was I was one person's like hey, I remember that from an episode I grew up on the PS1 PS1 RPGs and Claire Obscure Experiment Edition 33 is 100, a callback to RPGs from that era. Not to mention that's just gameplay and world design. Not to mention the cast is incredible. They were here yesterday. Did anybody get to see them yesterday? Each one better than the next. The voice acting the graphics, it's made by a small team, just over 30 people. It's. It's quite an accomplishment that they pulled off. Excellent music. Music. Clara Skier. It would not surprise me if that sweeps game of the year.

See, this all makes sense to me because I didn't grow up in the PS1 era, so I really like Expedition 1 through 6 from the era.

Yeah. You have to play the first 32 before 33. Makes sense.

It also has a good story. Right? Like you said.

A lot of junior devs that were, like, hired for one thing, and they're like, hey, can you do a bit of writing?

And they.

And they're like, sure. And they're like, do you want to just write the whole game? Like, that's the kind of stuff that happened. Or, you know, Ben Starr was there to help them with production, and they were like, hey, before you go, do you want to voice Verso, the main character of the game? Like, it's just kind of stuff that kind of just came in while they were making the game, and it's quite an accomplishment that it is as good as it is.

Is anything going to knock this off your list?

[Mark Medina]

I have not played Death Stranding 2 yet, so, you know, he's got a death stranding tattoo. I got a death stranding tattoo. If you can't see from there, I'm very excited for Death Stranding 2. It might not get off the list, but Claire is so far, very, very high up there.

How have you not played Death Stranding 2? We're playing Death Stranding too, because we.

[Mark Medina]

Because we are at IGN Live. Okay.

I was like, I don't want to play the first three hours and then forget everything in a week. So we get back.

Expedition 33 is my favorite game of the year so far as well. It's a little bit hard. Like, if people are playing it, it's a little bit like, if you know, you know. But if you're not playing it, it's kind of hard to explain. What makes it so amazing, because it's really good character work. It's really good music.

[Damon Hatfield]

It's really good world building, and it's a game that kind of gets under your skin and sticks with you for a long time. I can already tell. I'm like, I'm right at the end of it. And then I Had to put the controller down to come here to IGN live. So it's like, you know, thank you.

The sacrifices that we made.

[Justin Davis]

I know so but I can already tell like this is a game that's going to stick with me for years. And some of these characters are some of the most memorable, well written, well acted, well voiced video game characters in a long, long time. And I think that's backed up and married with just really, really perfect sort of classic RPG gameplay that's evolved, you know, so it's not like look like the gameplay in this game, it's not doing something that we've never ever seen before, but it's executing turn based combat in such a flashy, satisfying, fun way that it's like to me, I mean like I'm proud that it got a 9 out of 10. I think that's a good score. But for, for me personally it's an easy 10 out of 10. Game.

I love, love the scoop sign shout out to everybody I know. So 9 out of 10. Everyone seems really impressed with Claire Obscura. There's a little more than half the year to go, still lots more games coming. But there's some other games I've gotten 9s this year so far that we should mention. Doom, the Dark Ages.

A hell of a game.

Really fun game. Really fun game. I think, I think my, my instinct is that it's like super fun, super well made, but not maybe not, you know, revolutionary enough to knock something like Claire.

So there's also this new game that's just released. It's called Mario Kart World.

Yeah, I don't think it's going to be a contender for game of the Year.

Yeah, unfortunately, it seems like it has a lot going for, but there's already this kind of, like, pull towards is it better than Mario Kart 8? And a lot of people are saying no for the racing. And then the open world might not add enough, but I played a lot of the open world. Well, not a lot, but hours of it. And I think it's really fun. Justin watched me fail an event over and over again, and it's a nice, relaxing, try your skill. Series of fun activities. I think it's good.

But the way you're playing that game is the same way I want to play it. We're like, what is it, like a thousand p Switch challenges that are littered around the world, and each one's a little bit different. And like, that sounds to me. That sounds like a good time.

[Sam Claiborne]

Yep.

Y. I've been playing it when I can when I get home from IG Live and playing with my son Kingo. Some of you may have seen him on stage yesterday.

Lot of hype for Kingo.

Well, he. He played a game with Logan and he came in second.

So, I mean, wait, hold on.

And then he had this pretty good pie in the face.

No, he plays a lot of video games. He's pretty good at video games. So we were playing Mario Kart World together, and he told me how he plays Mario Kart. He said, daddy, what I do is I get in first place, and then I try to stay in first place.

Okay. I like Assassin's Creed for the, my favorite game of the year. I, I beat it. It was many hours. Now. I, I, I like it because it is a, a beautiful depiction of Japan. I love riding around on a horse through Japan. There's going to be another game doing that this year though.

Ghost of. Yeah. So I'm, you know, wondering what those are going to look like when they're head to head. But for now it's definitely Assassin's Creed. Although I think, and I can't wait to play a lot of it. But Death Stranding 2 runs a good chance to be my favorite. I love Death Stranding and I really. It's my favorite Kojima game. And more of that please, is all I'm gonna say there. I cannot wait. I cannot wait. Give me boxes to carry.

Like, it's a really, really memorable experience. Experience. I played it with my 11 year old. We had a great time with each other so I highly recommend playing it. Great game for couples. Great game for, you know, dads or moms and kids. Like it's awesome.

It's got a really good soundtrack. And then it's revealed to be luminescent. I'm like, ah, makes sense. I understand.

And it's got the Tetris Effect DNA.

I mean, what a perfect fit, right? Like the moment they announced that the Hitman developers IO were making a double O game. Like that's all we really need to know, right?

[Mark Medina]

Yeah. I like that the Bond looks like Tom Holland. Like, he looks really, really young. But then he talks and he has this deep voice and I'm like, okay, we'll do it. It's not canon in the Bond universe, so it kind of gives them. I think it'll give them more freedom to just kind of do whatever they want. Yeah. If you're gonna pick someone to make a Bond game, the Hitman developers would be the ones to do it.

[Damon Hatfield]

I agree with that and I feel confident it. People are a little mixed on the. The look, the young look of James Bond.

[Justin Davis]

I like it.

Now. I like this detail that we learned because, you know, it's going to be a big story driven AAA game with lots of voice acting. But I like this detail. You'll be able to test your skills and replay your favorite missions with additional modifiers for endless espionage fun. Yeah, just make it a video game. Make it a video game ass video game.

Yeah, I know.

Golden eye for the N64 had that right. You can play the games, but then you can go back and do these like extra things where it's like, don't let any hostages die.

They need to bring back big head mode.

Shouldn't every game just have big head mode?

I agree only with cheat coats though.

My two co workers love it. They like lost their stuff over it. I. I'm not much of a fighting game guy. It was really funny watching Captain America talk in Japanese.

But yeah, I think it looks great.

Anything approaching the Capcom style of art that is applied to Marvel is just the coolest thing ever.

Yeah, it's awesome. It's like so first of all, it's a nice surprise from Arc System Works Guilty Gear developers. Any Guilty Gear fans.

They know how to make good games.

Also 4v4.

If you're the higher Arc System Works. Let them cook.

I mean, I'm loving that trend. Yeah.

Back during the E3 days, there would often sometimes be a theme of E3. Right. Like unofficially. Like be like, oh, there was a lot of this kind of game or that kind of game. And I feel like this summer we've seen a lot of co op games and it warms my heart. It's awesome to see this.

Kind of looks like. It's almost like a 3D snipper clips too. Right. It's like kind of like. Kind of like moving things together and just trying to get them in.

And just the Lego horse of it is amazing. So pretty.

I mean, it looks better. We're playing a lot of LEGO Star Wars Skywalker Saga right now. It looks better than that. Yeah.

Yeah. They're releasing on Halloween. Looks Great. That game's been around for a while. I think there's a demo right now too. You can play. I love Shovel Knight. I love everything that yacht club does and can't wait.

It looks incredible. I don't know if it actually, actually is this, but the vibe it gives us is like an old school Zelda.

So it's like seafood. We're like sort of like attempting martial arts in a very realistic way. But it's all. It's very hardcore. I think some of like even like the moves and the kills are like lifted straight from the raid. It's got the fast stab. Stabby step. Yeah. This one looks really, really good. It's. It's a. It's an indie Indonesian developer.

I feel pretty confident saying they're also fans of the Raid.

I mean, RGG Studios doesn't miss. Right. Like they've made just. They're going from strength to strength to strength. They somehow release like three games every single year. It just never stops.

Then they all look awesome. And like if you're someone, like, look like I don't have this complaint. But if something's like, oh, the games are starting to feel a little bit samey or feeling similar. The cities often feel the same. Like then they do a swerve and they're like, look, we're going to give you something that's a period piece that looks moody. And then the combat still looks just as awesome and sort of visceral as it always does. Like it's definitely at the top of my most anticipated list.

[Mark Medina]

I'm a sucker for style. Anytime a game is like in a cut scene and then you see a character kind of stand up and then the camera goes behind him and then you start walking, I'm like, I'm in. It looks great. I'm in. I'm easy to please. I like video games.

[Damon Hatfield]

A lot of people. A lot of people are in for that one. This is the big one, maybe the biggest one this week.

I'm not sure. Resident Evil Requiem, Resident Evil 9.

They're consistently churning out great Resident Evils, whether they're remakes or new games all the time. This didn't tell us much about the game, but who cares? I cannot wait.

I mean, so what do you. We know we place this new character for the first time, Grace Ashcroft, who's the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, who was a character in Resident Evil Outbreak. So they've sort of wandered off into unbeaten path of the characters they have here.

Yeah. We were all kind of watching this roll out and it was like, oh, an FBI agent. I don't know. This doesn't really seem like it could be Resident Evil. Then finally you see a raccoon thing. Yeah, I go, raccoon. Something, something. It's Resident Evil.

Where's Leon? That's what everybody wants to know.
