Sam Claiborne

Damon Hatfield
And Mark Medina.
Mark Medina
I'm here, David.
Damon Hatfield
And I'm so glad. We just got to have Nick Limone out here. We wanted to have him on the show but he's busy right now running the show. So shout out to Nick Limone running the show. We also wanted to have Paris Schneider on but he lost his voice because he was out partying at the club.
Sam Claiborne
So like 4am last night we went to bed early.
Justin Davis
We were ready.
Damon Hatfield
So shout out to PA Also got a great show for you this week. We are here at IG Live with an incredible live audience.
Sam Claiborne
I don't know about you, but this is what I always picture. This is what I see when I record Game Scoop every time in my mind's eye.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Isn't this what every episode of Game Scoop should be like?
Sam Claiborne
Yeah, I'm okay with that.
Mark Medina
It's a little different than the Zoom Call we normally do.
Damon Hatfield
In just a bit, we'll be playing video game who Am I? Which is always a lot of fun with a live audience. There's also been a bunch of announcements this week. We'll discuss. But first it's time to check in with Game of the Year.
Mark Medina
Watch.
Damon Hatfield
We'll add that in post. It's fine. Okay. There've been a lot of great games released this year. No, 10 out of 10.
Sam Claiborne
Not a single 10 from IGN. I see a lot of tens in the audience though. There's a lot of shirts that say 10 is what I mean by that.
Damon Hatfield
I see a lot of 11 out of 10 off the charts.
Mark Medina
Is that legal?
Damon Hatfield
I don't if it's. Look, yeah.
Mark Medina
We got 110 on the couch. Sam's mustache last year.
Damon Hatfield
It's been A while since we have a full new game get a 10 last year Elden Ring, Shadow of the erdtree got a 10. Much deserved not a full standalone game. And then our re review of Stardew Valley got a 10.
Justin Davis
Yeah great game.
Sam Claiborne
Easy 10. Easy 10.
Damon Hatfield
So you got to go back to 2023 which is pretty, pretty good year for Baldur's Gate 3 Tears of the Kingdom, Resident Evil 4 Metro Time Remastered which ended yeah, that was a pretty good year.
Justin Davis
What a year.
Damon Hatfield
So anyway notes in this year by lots of great games and I think you know when you when you host enough game of the year watches you start to get a sense when there's a clear front runner. I think there's a clear front runner so far this year but I didn't want to assume so I polled the game scoop audience. I went to the Facebook group and I polled them read let's pull up this poll because I think the data shows there's a very clear front runner. It is Clair Obscure Expedition 33.
Mark Medina
I think it's a Claire front runner.
Damon Hatfield
Oh, it's a Claire front runner also. I've already forgotten one of my bits. Justin. I was gonna say I I told the scoop audience so let's check in with the listeners.
Justin Davis
Hey listeners.
Damon Hatfield
People really hate it when Justin's not there and nobody says hey listeners.
Mark Medina
I feel like a like I false silent. Well.
Damon Hatfield
For everyone who's listening at home and can't be here, I think it would they'd feel like they're part of the show. Let's get everyone to get a big hey listener. So let's check in with the listeners.
Sam Claiborne
Okay, that went great.
Damon Hatfield
So clar obscure. Very clear. 60% of the vote. Nothing else is close. Mark, you're a big fan of the game. It's your game of the year so far.
Mark Medina
Easily, easily, easily.
Damon Hatfield
Tell us why you think it is resonating so well.
Mark Medina
I am old and so I played a lot. Too old for Metroidvania, little too old for Metroidvanias. Old enough to know what a sequel is which is not Final Fantasy Games anyways and I was I was one person's like hey, I remember that from an episode I grew up on the PS1 PS1 RPGs and Claire Obscure Experiment Edition 33 is 100, a callback to RPGs from that era. Not to mention that's just gameplay and world design. Not to mention the cast is incredible. They were here yesterday. Did anybody get to see them yesterday? Each one better than the next. The voice acting the graphics, it's made by a small team, just over 30 people. It's. It's quite an accomplishment that they pulled off. Excellent music. Music. Clara Skier. It would not surprise me if that sweeps game of the year.
Sam Claiborne
See, this all makes sense to me because I didn't grow up in the PS1 era, so I really like Expedition 1 through 6 from the era.
Mark Medina
Yeah. You have to play the first 32 before 33. Makes sense.
Sam Claiborne
Yes.
Damon Hatfield
It also has a good story. Right? Like you said.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Small team, a new team.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
I have AAA experience.
Mark Medina
A lot of junior devs that were, like, hired for one thing, and they're like, hey, can you do a bit of writing?
Sam Claiborne
And they.
Mark Medina
And they're like, sure. And they're like, do you want to just write the whole game? Like, that's the kind of stuff that happened. Or, you know, Ben Starr was there to help them with production, and they were like, hey, before you go, do you want to voice Verso, the main character of the game? Like, it's just kind of stuff that kind of just came in while they were making the game, and it's quite an accomplishment that it is as good as it is.
Sam Claiborne
Is anything going to knock this off your list?
Mark Medina
I have not played Death Stranding 2 yet, so, you know, he's got a death stranding tattoo. I got a death stranding tattoo. If you can't see from there, I'm very excited for Death Stranding 2. It might not get off the list, but Claire is so far, very, very high up there.
Damon Hatfield
How have you not played Death Stranding 2? We're playing Death Stranding too, because we.
Mark Medina
Because we are at IGN Live. Okay.
Sam Claiborne
Okay.
Mark Medina
I was like, I don't want to play the first three hours and then forget everything in a week. So we get back.
Damon Hatfield
Okay.
Mark Medina
You guys were more important.
Damon Hatfield
Justin.
Justin Davis
Wow.
Damon Hatfield
We can talk about Mario Kart. Justin, you're also a big fan of clay.
Justin Davis
Expedition 33 is my favorite game of the year so far as well. It's a little bit hard. Like, if people are playing it, it's a little bit like, if you know, you know. But if you're not playing it, it's kind of hard to explain. What makes it so amazing, because it's really good character work. It's really good music.
Damon Hatfield
It's.
Justin Davis
It's really good world building, and it's a game that kind of gets under your skin and sticks with you for a long time. I can already tell. I'm like, I'm right at the end of it. And then I Had to put the controller down to come here to IGN live. So it's like, you know, thank you.
Mark Medina
The sacrifices that we made.
Justin Davis
I know so but I can already tell like this is a game that's going to stick with me for years. And some of these characters are some of the most memorable, well written, well acted, well voiced video game characters in a long, long time. And I think that's backed up and married with just really, really perfect sort of classic RPG gameplay that's evolved, you know, so it's not like look like the gameplay in this game, it's not doing something that we've never ever seen before, but it's executing turn based combat in such a flashy, satisfying, fun way that it's like to me, I mean like I'm proud that it got a 9 out of 10. I think that's a good score. But for, for me personally it's an easy 10 out of 10. Game.
Mark Medina
10.
Damon Hatfield
I love, love the scoop sign shout out to everybody I know. So 9 out of 10. Everyone seems really impressed with Claire Obscura. There's a little more than half the year to go, still lots more games coming. But there's some other games I've gotten 9s this year so far that we should mention. Doom, the Dark Ages.
Sam Claiborne
A hell of a game.
Damon Hatfield
Really fun game. Really fun game. I think, I think my, my instinct is that it's like super fun, super well made, but not maybe not, you know, revolutionary enough to knock something like Claire.
Sam Claiborne
Yep.
Damon Hatfield
Off pedestal.
Sam Claiborne
I agree.
Damon Hatfield
Then there's something a little bit smaller, even smaller than Claire. Blueprints.
Justin Davis
Yeah, love that. Which by the way I'll wait till you list them.
Damon Hatfield
Okay. Okay, I'll come back to you.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Then there's this little game. I think a few people played this. Maybe they played it with a friend or a loved one. Split fiction.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Something a world that Justin has been dabbling in. Kingdom Come, Deliverance two.
Sam Claiborne
This is just like your poll, only.
Mark Medina
On the first one. Justin.
Justin Davis
Yeah, so I'm going to move on to two after all the DLC comes out. I'm waiting for like the Game of the year edition or Ultimate Edition.
Damon Hatfield
And then there's a dark horse also but I'll let you say.
Justin Davis
Oh like I was just like I'd never made the connection that blueprints and Doom and Clair obscure all on game pass. So like what are you, what are you for three game of the Year candidates to all be on that service?
Damon Hatfield
Well, I mean also after the Xbox showcase today, there are a lot of Great games coming to Game Pass.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
So there's also this new game that's just released. It's called Mario Kart World.
Sam Claiborne
As yet unscored.
Damon Hatfield
Yet unscored because we didn't get early copy.
Sam Claiborne
The reviewer has been here reviewing the game live with everybody.
Damon Hatfield
Yep.
Sam Claiborne
And stage yesterday.
Damon Hatfield
Anyone who's here for NBC, yesterday, they played Mario Kart live. Logan's very good.
Justin Davis
Yep. He just bodied everybody.
Damon Hatfield
Yeah, he just bodied everybody.
Mark Medina
Logan has been upstairs this entire week reviewing the game for everybody, so quite impressive.
Damon Hatfield
And everyone seems to really like Mario Kart World. Sam, do we have any sort of sense, though, like, is this.
Ad
Is it a contender?
Sam Claiborne
Yeah, I don't think it's going to be a contender for game of the Year.
Damon Hatfield
Okay.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah, unfortunately, it seems like it has a lot going for, but there's already this kind of, like, pull towards is it better than Mario Kart 8? And a lot of people are saying no for the racing. And then the open world might not add enough, but I played a lot of the open world. Well, not a lot, but hours of it. And I think it's really fun. Justin watched me fail an event over and over again, and it's a nice, relaxing, try your skill. Series of fun activities. I think it's good.
Justin Davis
But the way you're playing that game is the same way I want to play it. We're like, what is it, like a thousand p Switch challenges that are littered around the world, and each one's a little bit different. And like, that sounds to me. That sounds like a good time.
Sam Claiborne
Yep.
Damon Hatfield
Y. I've been playing it when I can when I get home from IG Live and playing with my son Kingo. Some of you may have seen him on stage yesterday.
Mark Medina
Lot of hype for Kingo.
Damon Hatfield
Well, he. He played a game with Logan and he came in second.
Mark Medina
So, I mean, wait, hold on.
Justin Davis
And then he had this pretty good pie in the face.
Damon Hatfield
He got.
Justin Davis
Those are the rules.
Damon Hatfield
He's got to learn.
Justin Davis
Look, these kids got to learn.
Damon Hatfield
No, he plays a lot of video games. He's pretty good at video games. So we were playing Mario Kart World together, and he told me how he plays Mario Kart. He said, daddy, what I do is I get in first place, and then I try to stay in first place.
Mark Medina
Look, that's a bold strategy.
Sam Claiborne
Maybe a Future Guides team member.
Damon Hatfield
Maybe a Future Guides team member.
Mark Medina
That's a hot tip. Win.
Damon Hatfield
Stan, your personal game of the year so far is something we haven't mentioned it.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah, that's right, cuz. Maybe we didn't give it a high score.
Damon Hatfield
We gave it an eight.
Sam Claiborne
Okay. I like Assassin's Creed for the, my favorite game of the year. I, I beat it. It was many hours. Now. I, I, I like it because it is a, a beautiful depiction of Japan. I love riding around on a horse through Japan. There's going to be another game doing that this year though.
Damon Hatfield
Which one?
Sam Claiborne
Ghost of. Yeah. So I'm, you know, wondering what those are going to look like when they're head to head. But for now it's definitely Assassin's Creed. Although I think, and I can't wait to play a lot of it. But Death Stranding 2 runs a good chance to be my favorite. I love Death Stranding and I really. It's my favorite Kojima game. And more of that please, is all I'm gonna say there. I cannot wait. I cannot wait. Give me boxes to carry.
Damon Hatfield
A few other games that I think are worth mentioning. Monster Hunter Wilds.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
So Monster Hunter got some Monster Hunter fans. Monster Hunter World is Capcom's best selling game ever.
Justin Davis
Ever.
Mark Medina
Wow.
Damon Hatfield
Ever.
Justin Davis
All of them. Wait a second. What about Street Fighter?
Mark Medina
Damon?
Damon Hatfield
It's, it's outsold. It hold up.
Justin Davis
Well, what about Mega Man?
Damon Hatfield
It even outsold me. It even outsold Mega Man 8.
Justin Davis
What?
Damon Hatfield
Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
No, that's a good Mega Man.
Damon Hatfield
It is. Well, it's not one of the best.
Mark Medina
I don't think it's a Mega Man.
Damon Hatfield
This is all to say maybe Monster Hunter Wilds didn't make as much of a splash as I thought it would.
Justin Davis
Right.
Mark Medina
I liked it, but I'm not the world's biggest Monster Hunter fan. But I mean, got me into playing it. I liked it quite a bit.
Justin Davis
But in what other video game can you get an animal scales and skin and then turn it into a hat?
Mark Medina
Mega Man 8.
Damon Hatfield
I mean, that's not far off. You're trying to be silly, but you're not far off.
Mark Medina
It's true.
Sam Claiborne
Is your character a robot?
Justin Davis
Is, is Monster Hunter a Mega Man?
Damon Hatfield
Like, yeah, I mean, it's Capcom. Everything they do is.
Mark Medina
They're all connected. Resident Evil. Yeah.
Justin Davis
I mean, we did gloss over Split Fiction. Like, I don't, I don't think it is. I think I just, I love Expedition so much that like Split Fiction can't edge it out. But like that game, that studio keeps getting better and better and better and like Split Fiction ends like it's good all throughout. But then the finale of that game is incredible. Like, it's a really, really memorable experience. Experience. I played it with my 11 year old. We had a great time with each other so I highly recommend playing it. Great game for couples. Great game for, you know, dads or moms and kids. Like it's awesome.
Damon Hatfield
In the showcases this week, there are multiple fiction likes.
Justin Davis
I told you. I feel like a theme.
Mark Medina
There's a Lego one.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah. Lego Voyagers is one of my top picks of this summer season so far. Yeah, it's going to be great.
Damon Hatfield
Okay, we're going to take a short break, but when we come back, more gamescoop and IGN Live right after this.

Summer's around the corner and I'm already planning my next getaway. I love using points for travel and I'm always looking for ways to earn more. Here's a scoop gem. Pay rent with BILT to earn flexible transferable points and unlock exclusive benefits along the way. There's no cost to join, and just by paying rent, you unlock flexible points that can be transferred to your favorite hotels and airlines, a future rent payment, your next Lyft ride, and more. When you pay rent through bilt, you unlock two powerful benefits. First, you earn one of the industry's most valuable points on rent every month. No matter where you live or who your landlord is, your rent now works for you. Second, you gain access to exclusive neighborhood benefits in your city. Bilt's neighborhood benefits are things like extra points on dining out, complimentary post workout shakes, free mats or towels at your favorite fitness studios, and unique experiences that only BILT members can access. And when you're ready to travel, BILT points can be converted to your favorite miles and hotel points around the world, meaning your rent can literally take you places. So if you're not earning points on rent, my question is, what are you waiting for? Start paying rent through BILT and take advantage of your neighborhood benefits by going to joinbilt.com gamescoop that's J O I n B I L. Make sure to use our URL so they know we sent you. I don't know about you, but my local cell phone provider always has signs out in front that says get 45 new phones for $1 when you sign up with eight new lines for free. And then you go in there and they're like, yeah, here's your dollar. And then there's also this delivery fee and then there's state taxes. And then it comes out to being exactly how much you were paying before and then even more because they tacked on another one for like the phone. But that is not going to happen with Mint Mobile this year.

Welcome back, welcome back. Game Scoop here at IGN Live. Been going on all weekend here. You know, all weekend long. I was pretty sure that Game Scoop would be the most fun thing that happens on the stage. The coolest thing that happens on the stage. But then this guy. Thank you. This guy earlier goes and proposes, which was a beautiful moment, but how am I supposed to top that?
Sam Claiborne
Let's try to get two proposals during this.
Damon Hatfield
Okay? Does anyone want to propose free? How about this? How about this? We did this last year, too. You guys know what the playdate is? The cutest handheld console.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
With a great little black and white screen and a little crank. We've got a few playdate consoles here and a case. I'm gonna give it one away right now.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
And yes, I do play favorites with people wearing Game Scoop shirts.
Sam Claiborne
Generally you play for next year. Generally you play date around a little bit before you play. Engage.
Damon Hatfield
That's true. That's true.
Justin Davis
Yep. We use our playdate at our house. We like it. I own one. I love it.
Damon Hatfield
I like the playdate. It's a cool console.
Justin Davis
Yep.
Damon Hatfield
Okay, here we are. The Omega Cups at Goose camp.
Sam Claiborne
Let's play a game.
Damon Hatfield
Gathered in front of Scoop nation.
Justin Davis
Oh, boy.
Damon Hatfield
Let's play a game. This is called video game. Who am I? Here's how this works.
Sam Claiborne
And you are going to play a game with us.
Damon Hatfield
You're going to play with us. So I've selected a character for everyone here. And what they're going to do is they're going to close their eyes and we'll bring the character up here so everyone in the room will know who they are except them. Then they will take the picture down. They'll open their eyes, and then they will ask yes or no questions, and you will answer the questions until they can determine who they are. Now, when that picture comes up, nobody yell out the name of the character. We all want to play this game together and have fun. So everybody good?
Sam Claiborne
Okay.
Damon Hatfield
Sam's gonna go first.
Sam Claiborne
Okay.
Justin Davis
Love it.
Sam Claiborne
All right, so, Sam, I'm a veteran at this game.
Damon Hatfield
Close your eyes.
Sam Claiborne
Okay.
Damon Hatfield
For real. And let's see who Sam is. There we go.
Sam Claiborne
Don't tell me.
Mark Medina
I don't even know who that is.
Damon Hatfield
You don't know? Of course you don't know. That's a big. That's a big hint.
Sam Claiborne
That's my first clue. First clue.
Mark Medina
That might be the first hit.
Damon Hatfield
Okay, Sam, you can open your eyes.
Sam Claiborne
Okay.
Damon Hatfield
Okay. So we all know who Sam is. Sam, let the questioning begin.
Sam Claiborne
All right. Am I a human? Am I an animal? Do I. Oh, wow. There's already an iffy question. Do I. Do I have furniture? Am I cute? Oh, my goodness. Am I some sort of pocket monster?
Mark Medina
No.
Sam Claiborne
Okay, okay. Okay. Am I really little? Yes, really little. Oh, wow. Okay. I'm a really little furry cutie. Okay. Am I just one color? Oh, interesting, interesting. Do I have pointy ears? Am I a cat? Oh, dog. Am I an imaginary creature?
Mark Medina
Yes.
Sam Claiborne
Okay.
Damon Hatfield
There you go.
Justin Davis
That was really good. That was good. That was good.
Damon Hatfield
That was good.
Sam Claiborne
All right. Some sort of imaginary creature.
Damon Hatfield
Mark gave you a big hint here.
Mark Medina
I did.
Sam Claiborne
He doesn't play any games, but what.
Justin Davis
Else does Mark not do?
Sam Claiborne
What else do I not have from a movie? But does this movie also have a video game or. Okay, okay, okay, okay. That's really interesting. All right. Is this a sci fi movie?
Mark Medina
Yes. What?
Damon Hatfield
What? What? No, no, it's not a sci fi movie.
Mark Medina
I'm like, I don't know.
Sam Claiborne
Is it a fantasy movie?
Mark Medina
I mean, what genre is this?
Sam Claiborne
That's funny. Okay, let's just drop that line of questioning. All right. Is this a movie from the 70s or 80s?
Damon Hatfield
Yes.
Sam Claiborne
Okay. Does it have some sequels?
Justin Davis
Yes.
Sam Claiborne
Really? Okay. Is it. Is this a Star wars character? Trek? Oh, my goodness. This sounds hard.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
Okay. I'm a little cutie.
Justin Davis
Little cute, furry.
Mark Medina
Little cute.
Justin Davis
Furry with points.
Sam Claiborne
It's imaginary. That's from some movie. Oh, is it? Am I a mogwai?
Damon Hatfield
Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
Is my name gizmo?
Damon Hatfield
Yes.
Sam Claiborne
Mark. Steve Riblands buddy.
Justin Davis
There I am.
Mark Medina
We'd have been here all night if I got that one.
Justin Davis
So funny. That was really good.
Sam Claiborne
Oh, awesome. Okay, I'm glad. Okay. We have a good record. Thank you. So much everybody so far.
Damon Hatfield
Hey, Nicely Job, Nicely Job.
Sam Claiborne
What is it, a sci Fi movie?
Damon Hatfield
It's not a sci fi movie.
Justin Davis
Right?
Damon Hatfield
I want sci fi.
Sam Claiborne
The dad's an inventor.
Mark Medina
It stands for science fiction.
Damon Hatfield
He's not an alien. He's not an alien.
Sam Claiborne
Well, it's unclear.
Justin Davis
They're gremlins.
Damon Hatfield
There are. There have been legacy. There's like an animated show that they come from. They have, like, this history.
Sam Claiborne
Really. Okay, okay.
Justin Davis
Ancient creatures.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
Okay.
Justin Davis
Yeah, yeah.
Sam Claiborne
Okay.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Okay. I love it.
Justin Davis
All right.
Sam Claiborne
Gizmo. I are. Gizmo.
Damon Hatfield
That was good.
Justin Davis
Well done.
Damon Hatfield
Okay, Justin.
Justin Davis
Okay, you're on deck, Justin. Eyes are closed.
Damon Hatfield
Remember, nobody yelling this out, because I think a few of them are going to know who this is. Let's see who Justin is. Oh, more hints, more hints. Oh, my God. Okay, get that down. Okay, thanks. Okay, Justin.
Sam Claiborne
Oh, this is good. Stay.
Mark Medina
Stay cool, guys.
Justin Davis
For the record, I hate this so much.
Mark Medina
Stay cool.
Justin Davis
I know. I've been playing video games my whole Life. I've done 700 episodes of game Scoop, and then I, like, I forget everything that I've ever.
Mark Medina
No game ever.
Damon Hatfield
They help a lot. They help a lot.
Nick Limone
Okay.
Justin Davis
Am I a human?
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Justin Davis
Okay. Am I a woman?
Mark Medina
Yes.
Justin Davis
Okay. Am I from a video game?
Mark Medina
Yes.
Justin Davis
Am I. Am I an adult?
Mark Medina
Yes.
Justin Davis
Oh, boy. I don't even know Name a woman.
Mark Medina
He's out of questions.
Damon Hatfield
That's all he had.
Justin Davis
Okay, okay, okay. Am I from a game? Am I like. Am I still starring in games? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Am I. Do I shoot guns?
Mark Medina
Nope.
Justin Davis
No, I don't shoot guns. Am I. Oh, is somebody here?
Damon Hatfield
Phone a friend?
Justin Davis
What? I turned Not. Okay. Oh, boy. Am I. So I'm an adult. I'm a woman. I'm from video games. I'm still in video games today. Am I in fighting? Am I fighting game?
Sam Claiborne
Well.
Damon Hatfield
Well, you are in a fighting game.
Justin Davis
Am I a Nintendo character? No, I'm in a fighting game. Oh, boy. Am I normally seen? Am I like 2D? Am I like drawn, 3D and polygonal? I'm in trouble. Damon, you're a beloved character. Beloved character.
Damon Hatfield
You might say that you're dear to a lot of gamers. Hearts.
Mark Medina
Well, and the hint was like, you're not a fighting game character, but you are in a fighting. Right.
Justin Davis
But I assume smash. But it's not.
Damon Hatfield
And you don't use guns.
Justin Davis
I don't use guns. I'm a brawler. I'm a boxer. Yeah. Oh, you're giving me a lot of hints. What is that? Is that The.
Sam Claiborne
That was a really good impression for fans of the genre.
Justin Davis
Did I first come out in the 80s or 90s?
Mark Medina
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Yes.
Justin Davis
Got it. Still around today. Am I Chun Ling?
Mark Medina
No.
Justin Davis
Am I from Street Fighter?
Ad
No.
Justin Davis
Okay, but am I from. Okay, what other fighting game franchises are there? Are they not from.
Mark Medina
Don't get too hung up on the fighting game.
Justin Davis
Look, you all know the answer.
Damon Hatfield
That's true.
Mark Medina
It's true.
Damon Hatfield
What's another hint?
Justin Davis
Yeah, I don't know.
Sam Claiborne
I'm trying to think of something emerge in the 90s, but check this out. Mark knows this character.
Damon Hatfield
Mark knows.
Justin Davis
I need a hint.
Damon Hatfield
Rpg.
Justin Davis
Am I Tifa?
Sam Claiborne
Yay. You just went from RPG to Tifa.
Justin Davis
Well, because he did the boxing thing earlier.
Damon Hatfield
Yeah, Tifa. And I also said you're geared a lot of gamers.
Mark Medina
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Justin Davis
Cool. Wow. Very, very stressful. Thank you.
Sam Claiborne
You should be happy to be tifa. Tifa rocks.
Damon Hatfield
We have the medic standing by for Justin. Sorry, I shouldn't jump.
Justin Davis
No. Thank you for the crowd. That was very hopeful.
Damon Hatfield
Okay.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Justin Davis
All right.
Sam Claiborne
And remember, there's nothing in the rule book that says you can't be Tifa also.
Mark Medina
Okay. Or maybe I'm the gremlin.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Would you know a gremlin?
Mark Medina
No.
Damon Hatfield
No, not at all.
Sam Claiborne
Gizmo is not a gremlin. He's a Mogwai. He has become a gremlin.
Justin Davis
Yeah. They can't get wet after midnight.
Mark Medina
We'd have. We'd have been here all night.
Sam Claiborne
If you sit down and I'll regale you the story.
Justin Davis
When does that end?
Mark Medina
Isn't it always after midnight?
Justin Davis
Like, what's the cutoff?
Damon Hatfield
Yeah, this is the problem. Yeah, this is the problem. Okay. And remember, Mark, I picked these for you. I picked some of my thinking. Yes. Right. So please close your eyes.
Mark Medina
Okay.
Damon Hatfield
And let's see who Mark is. Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah, I. I know. Yeah, she's good.
Damon Hatfield
Okay, let's take that down. All right, Mark, here we go.
Mark Medina
All right. Am I John Cena?
Damon Hatfield
What the heck?
Mark Medina
Okay, so am I from a video game?
Damon Hatfield
Yes.
Mark Medina
Am I a male? Yes. Okay. Am I human? Yes. Am I current? Am I the star of my game?
Damon Hatfield
Oh, yes.
Mark Medina
Am I still. Are games still coming out?
Sam Claiborne
Oh, yeah.
Mark Medina
Did one of them come out in the last three years?
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
Oh, yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Okay.
Mark Medina
I heard last year. Okay. Okay. Did it. Did that game come out to 2024? Hey, hey, hey. What was that?
Damon Hatfield
Let him figure it out.
Mark Medina
All right, all right. Was it 2025?
Damon Hatfield
Yeah.
Mark Medina
Okay. Is it an RPG? Is it an action game? Okay.
Sam Claiborne
Remember, genres are hard and general, so.
Mark Medina
I know I'm in an action game that got this year. So let's see here. Okay. Have we. Let's see. Does my character wear a hat?
Sam Claiborne
Nope.
Mark Medina
No. Okay.
Justin Davis
You got a head covering of something.
Damon Hatfield
Something covers your head.
Mark Medina
A head covering of some kind. We said I was a guy, right?
Damon Hatfield
Yep.
Mark Medina
Okay, cool. Am I somebody's dad? No. No, not that we know.
Damon Hatfield
Sure. No.
Mark Medina
Okay. Am I in a shooting game?
Sam Claiborne
Oh, yeah.
Mark Medina
Huh. Am I doom guy?
Sam Claiborne
Yeah. Nailed it.
Mark Medina
This is her image. He doesn't wear a hat, but. Got it. Okay.
Justin Davis
John Cena.
Mark Medina
It does look like John. I didn't get it, but now I do. I was like, is my character invisible? Like, am I just not in the game?
Damon Hatfield
I wasn't sure how this would look on the big screen, the pixels.
Mark Medina
But it looks awesome. It looks better than you could expect.
Damon Hatfield
Okay, nicely. Another round of applause for these guys. Nicely done. Okay, we have. We have one more segment, but let's go ahead and toss the break now so we can just keep it all together. So going to take a quick break. Don't go anywhere. There's more games keep coming up right after this.

Damon Hatfield
Welcome back to Game Scoop here at IG Live. Sam, it's finally happening.
Mark Medina
Yeah, we're at the end of the day.
Damon Hatfield
My voice is about to go.
Sam Claiborne
I hear you anytime. Just give me those little cards.
Damon Hatfield
My voice timed it perfect.
Mark Medina
This is the perfect time.
Damon Hatfield
Got one more segment here. Some lots of games to talk about, but I can't help but notice a lot of stuff has just appeared here on stage with us. I don't know.
Mark Medina
I think Maybe show up next time.
Damon Hatfield
IG Live's almost over. I don't know what we can do with all this stuff.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah, we're going have to give it away.
Damon Hatfield
We'll try to figure out what we can do with all this stuff at the end of the show.
Mark Medina
I'll steal some of it. Don't worry. Okay.
Damon Hatfield
So a lot of big games have been revealed this week. There have been several big showcases. PlayStation State of Play was last week. They had the Summer Game Fest. The Xbox Showcase was today. So I've made a long list of games. It's so it didn't fit on one card.
Sam Claiborne
What?
Damon Hatfield
I had to put the list on two cards.
Mark Medina
2.
Justin Davis
Carter.
Mark Medina
E3. E3 is back kind of.
Damon Hatfield
And so we're just going to run. We're going to run through. We're going to talk about games that look cool until Nick tells me I have to wrap up the show.
Sam Claiborne
Okay.
Damon Hatfield
Basically. So looking back, earlier in the week there was a game that I think Justin.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Would have been excited about.
Justin Davis
Which one?
Damon Hatfield
Do you know which one I'm going to start with?
Justin Davis
Is it Luminez Arise?
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
There's a new Luminous.
Justin Davis
It was awesome, dude.
Damon Hatfield
Yeah.
Justin Davis
If you don't know, it's a puzzle game that's known for having like an incredible soundtrack and like that's sort of its defining feature. And our like, it's not apparent that it's Luminous from the opening seconds of the trailer. And as I'm watching this game trailer, I'm like, damn, this game sounds really cool. It's got a really good soundtrack. And then it's revealed to be luminescent. I'm like, ah, makes sense. I understand.
Sam Claiborne
And it's got the Tetris Effect DNA.
Justin Davis
Right.
Mark Medina
It's screwed.
Justin Davis
Great.
Damon Hatfield
It's. It's the developer of Tetris Effect.
Mark Medina
Yeah. The moment it started I was like, is this Tetris effect too? I. I love Tetris Effect, so. But I've never played Luminous.
Justin Davis
I should have clocked it. It's got the timeline going across and that's like the game's whole thing.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Luminous was a PSP game.
Justin Davis
Yep.
Damon Hatfield
Then eventually came to like, I think it was a downloadable Xbox Live Arcade game.
Justin Davis
Yep.
Damon Hatfield
There's been a few revisions, but there.
Mark Medina
Was never like a.
Damon Hatfield
There's never like Luminous 2 right now.
Justin Davis
They did a few spin offs and like side games and stuff. But it's back. It's great if you've never played them. Check it out.
Damon Hatfield
Luminesce Arise is coming this fall and then the next one is a game I don't think we can show any footage of here in this H. It's called Romeo with a Dead Man.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
The next one from Grasshopper Manufacturer, which is billed as. This is a quote Grasshopper manufacturers bloodiest action game yet. That's all I need to know.
Sam Claiborne
Yep, I'll be there.
Damon Hatfield
This was. So this is like a third person action game where you're, you're sort of cut. Caught in between life and death and you're slashing up lots of monsters and, and blood is spring out everywhere and it looks great. Yeah. All right. Well, I guess that's all we say about that one.
Sam Claiborne
Okay.
Damon Hatfield
Sam.
Mark Medina
Blood's great.
Damon Hatfield
There's a new blood stain.
Sam Claiborne
Yes, blood stain too. We have a, a new IGA game right in the crate of Castlevania. Doesn't get to make Castlevanias anymore.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
It's not you guys doing it.
Justin Davis
What's that?
Sam Claiborne
We don't know if it's eager doing it.
Damon Hatfield
He's like a producer. He's not the director.
Sam Claiborne
He's got it, got it, got it. Yeah. But you know 2D Castlevania, we should get one every year.
Damon Hatfield
Fix my mic.
Sam Claiborne
Just that his voice is going.
Damon Hatfield
I don't know what I can do about my mic. Okay.
Mark Medina
I think he just doesn't have a voice.
Sam Claiborne
We'll just have to talk for him.
Mark Medina
It's been a long weekend.
Damon Hatfield
Sam will talk about Blood Stain two.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah, well, I, I wonder. What is there to say? You play as some goofy guys now instead of a lady. They look like Castlevania characters. And it looks like an amazing 2D Castlevania.
Justin Davis
Is it co op or do you just play as the two guys?
Damon Hatfield
Two characters.
Mark Medina
Swaps. Cool.
Damon Hatfield
They're always on screen but you swap between the two. Yeah.
Justin Davis
Right?
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
So that looks cool. What about Final Fantasy Tactics?
Mark Medina
Yeah, that was one of those like not very well kept secret. People knew it was coming but they're still excited to see it fully voice acted. It's going to have Ben Star, Brianna White, Cody Christian, all the, all the favorites.
Sam Claiborne
Are you a tactics guy?
Mark Medina
Not really. Like I've never really played it. So I, I, you know, what if they hear all the, hear all the familiar voices? I, I'm excited to, to give it a go for sure.
Justin Davis
Incredible game.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
Is that the one? That's Doug. Good tactics also.
Justin Davis
I mean. Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
It's kind of like the benchmark games.
Sam Claiborne
I've never played it. I can't wait.
Justin Davis
It's great.
Damon Hatfield
What about. We finally got the, the reveal of the 007 game. 007 first lights.
Sam Claiborne
Yep. Hitman IO Interactive.
Justin Davis
I mean, what a perfect fit, right? Like the moment they announced that the Hitman developers IO were making a double O game. Like that's all we really need to know, right?
Mark Medina
Yeah. I like that the Bond looks like Tom Holland. Like, he looks really, really young. But then he talks and he has this deep voice and I'm like, okay, we'll do it. It's not canon in the Bond universe, so it kind of gives them. I think it'll give them more freedom to just kind of do whatever they want. Yeah. If you're gonna pick someone to make a Bond game, the Hitman developers would be the ones to do it.
Damon Hatfield
I agree with that and I feel confident it. People are a little mixed on the. The look, the young look of James Bond.
Justin Davis
I like it.
Damon Hatfield
You like it?
Sam Claiborne
Yeah.
Mark Medina
He looks like Nathan Drake, but young. Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Kind of looks like Tom Cruise. I don't know. What do we think of the look of this young James Bond as you see him here?
Mark Medina
Yes, yes.
Justin Davis
Okay.
Damon Hatfield
Okay, then we will allow it.
Justin Davis
Yeah, we'll allow it.
Damon Hatfield
What I like about it though, maybe.
Sam Claiborne
There'Ll be skins like There was in 007. Goldeneye.
Damon Hatfield
Oh, yeah. You could just be different.
Sam Claiborne
You just be whoever. Just be odd jobs the whole game.
Mark Medina
I'm Pierce Brosnan.
Damon Hatfield
Now. I like this detail that we learned because, you know, it's going to be a big story driven AAA game with lots of voice acting. But I like this detail. You'll be able to test your skills and replay your favorite missions with additional modifiers for endless espionage fun. Yeah, just make it a video game. Make it a video game ass video game.
Justin Davis
Yeah, I know.
Mark Medina
Golden eye for the N64 had that right. You can play the games, but then you can go back and do these like extra things where it's like, don't let any hostages die.
Justin Davis
They need to bring back big head mode.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
Yep.
Damon Hatfield
Shouldn't every game just have big head mode?
Sam Claiborne
I agree only with cheat coats though.
Damon Hatfield
And cheat codes.
Mark Medina
Yeah. Marvel Rivals had it and I was very happy.
Damon Hatfield
You know, speaking of Marvel, Mark, what do we think about Marvel Fighting Souls?
Mark Medina
My two co workers love it. They like lost their stuff over it. I. I'm not much of a fighting game guy. It was really funny watching Captain America talk in Japanese.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Mark Medina
But yeah, I think it looks great.
Sam Claiborne
Anything approaching the Capcom style of art that is applied to Marvel is just the coolest thing ever.
Damon Hatfield
Yeah, it's awesome. It's like so first of all, it's a nice surprise from Arc System Works Guilty Gear developers. Any Guilty Gear fans.
Sam Claiborne
They know how to make good games.
Mark Medina
Also 4v4.
Justin Davis
I'm a.
Mark Medina
They said it couldn't be done. What's next? 5v5?
Justin Davis
Impossible.
Mark Medina
Impossible.
Damon Hatfield
The only thing about 4v4 is I think you have to have a pretty big roster for it not to start.
Justin Davis
Feeling well, I don't know if there's enough Marvel characters.
Damon Hatfield
There might not be enough Marvel characters.
Mark Medina
I can name a few.
Damon Hatfield
I just like that, you know, it's a Marvel. It's a Marvel game. But they're just letting our system works make. It's very Japanese. Like the debut trailers in Japanese. Got a very anime art style. I'm sure there was temptation from someone along the lines let's make it a little bit more western leaning. But no.
Justin Davis
If you're the higher Arc System Works. Let them cook.
Damon Hatfield
Yep.
Justin Davis
Let them do their thing. They're the best in the booze.
Damon Hatfield
Big fans of cooking over here. That was coming 2026. We mentioned it earlier. Lego Voyagers is the LEGO split fiction. Like.
Sam Claiborne
Yep.
Damon Hatfield
It's gonna have a split fiction style. Friend pass. We only have to buy one copy of the game.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Mark Medina
I mean, I'm loving that trend. Yeah.
Justin Davis
Back during the E3 days, there would often sometimes be a theme of E3. Right. Like unofficially. Like be like, oh, there was a lot of this kind of game or that kind of game. And I feel like this summer we've seen a lot of co op games and it warms my heart. It's awesome to see this.
Sam Claiborne
Kind of looks like. It's almost like a 3D snipper clips too. Right. It's like kind of like. Kind of like moving things together and just trying to get them in.
Damon Hatfield
Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
And just the Lego horse of it is amazing. So pretty.
Damon Hatfield
I mean, it looks better. We're playing a lot of LEGO Star Wars Skywalker Saga right now. It looks better than that. Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah. Looks great.
Damon Hatfield
It's interesting. You play with individual bricks and not many figs.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
It's cute, but cute. There was one year the theme of.
Ad
E3 was like bow and arrows.
Damon Hatfield
Yeah.
Justin Davis
Just every game had a bow and arrow. Exactly.
Damon Hatfield
One year was like knives in the throat. It's like, okay.
Mark Medina
Oh my.
Damon Hatfield
We finally got. Finally got a release date for Mina the Hollower, the next game from the Shovel Knight developers.
Mark Medina
Yeah. Halloween.
Sam Claiborne
You're a little mouse.
Damon Hatfield
Oh, I didn't even put that together. Mina the Hollower on Halloween.
Mark Medina
Yeah. They're releasing on Halloween. Looks Great. That game's been around for a while. I think there's a demo right now too. You can play. I love Shovel Knight. I love everything that yacht club does and can't wait.
Justin Davis
It looks incredible. I don't know if it actually, actually is this, but the vibe it gives us is like an old school Zelda.
Sam Claiborne
Like.
Justin Davis
Yeah, right.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah. Game Boy Zelda.
Damon Hatfield
Yeah, it's like Game Boy like Link's Awakening.
Justin Davis
It's so rad.
Damon Hatfield
Playing Link's Awakening on the Game Boy color.
Sam Claiborne
Yep.
Ad
Oh my gosh.
Damon Hatfield
We have to go to the next card. This is a game that we also probably can't show much up here. Acts of Blood.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
So this, this is like the Raid the game. Even though the raid was already like Double Dragon.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah. I haven't talked to you about this. It looked like a day me game.
Ad
Yeah, for sure.
Damon Hatfield
Gameplay wise. Did you see this one, Justin?
Justin Davis
No, I missed it.
Damon Hatfield
So it's like seafood. We're like sort of like attempting martial arts in a very realistic way. But it's all. It's very hardcore. I think some of like even like the moves and the kills are like lifted straight from the raid. It's got the fast stab. Stabby step. Yeah. This one looks really, really good. It's. It's a. It's an indie Indonesian developer.
Justin Davis
That's awesome.
Damon Hatfield
I feel pretty confident saying they're also fans of the Raid.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Took some inspiration there. And then finally. Oh, Justin. Yakuza fan.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Previously announced as Project Century, now Stranger Than Heaven.
Mark Medina
Looks incredible.
Justin Davis
It does look incredible.
Mark Medina
Looks incredible.
Justin Davis
I mean, RGG Studios doesn't miss. Right. Like they've made just. They're going from strength to strength to strength. They somehow release like three games every single year. It just never stops.
Damon Hatfield
Yeah.
Justin Davis
Then they all look awesome. And like if you're someone, like, look like I don't have this complaint. But if something's like, oh, the games are starting to feel a little bit samey or feeling similar. The cities often feel the same. Like then they do a swerve and they're like, look, we're going to give you something that's a period piece that looks moody. And then the combat still looks just as awesome and sort of visceral as it always does. Like it's definitely at the top of my most anticipated list.
Mark Medina
I'm a sucker for style. Anytime a game is like in a cut scene and then you see a character kind of stand up and then the camera goes behind him and then you start walking, I'm like, I'm in. It looks great. I'm in. I'm easy to please. I like video games.
Damon Hatfield
A lot of people. A lot of people are in for that one. This is the big one, maybe the biggest one this week.
Mark Medina
I don't know.
Damon Hatfield
I'm not sure. Resident Evil Requiem, Resident Evil 9.
Sam Claiborne
They're consistently churning out great Resident Evils, whether they're remakes or new games all the time. This didn't tell us much about the game, but who cares? I cannot wait.
Justin Davis
It was a little tease.
Mark Medina
Yeah, Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
I mean, so what do you. We know we place this new character for the first time, Grace Ashcroft, who's the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, who was a character in Resident Evil Outbreak. So they've sort of wandered off into unbeaten path of the characters they have here.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah. We were all kind of watching this roll out and it was like, oh, an FBI agent. I don't know. This doesn't really seem like it could be Resident Evil. Then finally you see a raccoon thing. Yeah, I go, raccoon. Something, something. It's Resident Evil.
Justin Davis
Where's Leon? That's what everybody wants to know.
Damon Hatfield
Where is the arm?
Mark Medina
It's not our fault. They literally said in the showcase we have nothing to show. And then they end it with Resident Evil 9. Rick. 393.
Damon Hatfield
91.
Mark Medina
Yeah, they got it.
Sam Claiborne
Well, Leon is on a jet ski.
Mark Medina
Still escaping an island.
Sam Claiborne
He's on a jet ski.
Damon Hatfield
But what's cool is they gave it a date. February 27th.
Mark Medina
Yeah, 2026. 2026 is. Is. Is filling out GTA. We got resident Evil. Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
We haven't even mentioned that. Anyone excited about gta?
Sam Claiborne
Well, we didn't get to see much of that this week.
Damon Hatfield
What's up?
Sam Claiborne
We didn't get to see much of that this week.
Damon Hatfield
We didn't get to see much of that.
Mark Medina
We got Silk songs. Release date.
Damon Hatfield
I didn't think.
Mark Medina
Did we? Well, release, like, release window. Yeah, we did that.
Justin Davis
They're zeroing in on it.
Damon Hatfield
And finally a sequel to a game that I reviewed for IGN and I remember I reviewed it, Super Meat Boy 3D.
Mark Medina
Oh, yeah.
Damon Hatfield
It looked great. It looks great.
Mark Medina
It looked great.
Justin Davis
It looks really cool. It's like sort of got some Astrobot DNA in it. It seems like, you know, a little bit more action oriented, 3D platforming. That was definitely a surprise to the show for me. Sam, you were talking about it too. Like, I think it looks really cool.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah. And that's the start of an amazing Xbox show.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
You thought the Xbox show Was like, kind of.
Sam Claiborne
I thought it was incredible. I thought every single game I'd play in there. Persona. Oh, my God. That was look incredible.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Sam Claiborne
Yeah, it's going to be good.
Damon Hatfield
Boom.
Mark Medina
Clockwork Orange looks really, really good. Or not Clockwork Orange. I'm sorry. Clockwork Revolution. Every time I see it, I think.
Sam Claiborne
Clockwork Orange and now RPG Steam Pocket looks.
Damon Hatfield
But you haven't seen Clockwork Orange.
Justin Davis
Yeah.
Mark Medina
Oh, I have seen.
Damon Hatfield
You have seen Clockwork.
Mark Medina
Somebody took my eyeballs and made me watch. See also, the Xbox handheld looked really, really cool.
Sam Claiborne
And Silksong is a big deal. I can't wait to play S song this year. That's really exciting too.
Damon Hatfield
Well, my friends, this is it. We've reached the end of game Scoop. Thank you so much. Really.
Mark Medina
Yeah.
Damon Hatfield
Thank you so much for listening. Watching gamescube every week. It's so much fun for us to do next year. Fun fact, if we do IGN Live the same time next year. The first episode of Gamescoop was in June 2006.
Sam Claiborne
Wow.
Damon Hatfield
So it'll be 20 years.
Mark Medina
Can we call it? Are we done? Have we given enough?
Damon Hatfield
And. And, and. And then I rest. No, seriously, you guys are awesome. Thank you so much for tuning in every week. You guys are the best.
Sam Claiborne
Okay.
Damon Hatfield
Okay, okay. Another IGN Live is coming to an end. This has been a ton of fun. It wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun without everyone who's showed up. So give yourselves a round of applause. Let's give it up for everyone who helped IGN Live come together. Everyone working behind the scenes, our entire production crew, our hype team, our partners.
Sam Claiborne
Thank you, everybody. Thank you, crew.
Damon Hatfield
And everyone working security, helping keep the venue clean. And last but not least, thank you to the Magic Box at the Reef for having us back for our second year. We had a blast doing this, but what about you? What do you think? Should we come back next year?
Mark Medina
Well, there you have it, Scoop.
Sam Claiborne
There it is.
Damon Hatfield
Glad to hear it. Okay, Scoop, there it is.
Sam Claiborne
Okay.
Damon Hatfield
Okay. So at these big events, they always like to close with. Oh, and one more thing. But our one more thing is hidden behind the prompter. It's actually a whole bunch of things that we want to send home with our guests, but I might need some help. So can I get some help out here? What are you guys waiting for? Okay.
Sam Claiborne
Hey, I think they're waiting for James Seth from.
Damon Hatfield
Everyone here at IGN, thank you for making IGN Live 2025 a success. We'll see you.
Mark Medina
Sam.
Damon Hatfield
Sa.
Justin Davis
Oh, they're smart.
Damon Hatfield
So many prizes. Keep up the noise. Junior.

Game Scoop! Episode 814: Game of the Year Watch 2025 Continues
Release Date: June 9, 2025
In this live episode of Game Scoop!, host Damon Hatfield teams up with the IGN crew—Justin Davis, Sam Claiborne, and Mark Medina—to dissect the hottest gaming news of the week. Set against the vibrant backdrop of IG Live, the episode promises expert insights, lively debates, and interactive fun for both longtime fans and new listeners.
The centerpiece of this episode is the ongoing Game of the Year Watch for 2025. Damon introduces the segment by highlighting the abundance of stellar game releases this year.

Mark Medina’s Enthusiasm: Mark Medina, a passionate fan of the title, elaborates on why Claire Obscure Expedition 33 stands out:
"[07:00] I played a lot. Too old for Metroidvania... It's a 100, a callback to RPGs from that era. The voice acting, graphics, made by a small team of just over 30 people—it's quite an accomplishment."
Justin Davis’s Perspective: Justin echoes Mark’s sentiments, emphasizing the game’s deep character work and immersive world-building:
"[09:19] Expedition 33 is my favorite game of the year so far... It gets under your skin and sticks with you for a long time. The characters are some of the most memorable in a long time."
Sam Claiborne’s Take: Sam appreciates the legacy aspect, noting his appreciation for earlier installments of the series:
"[07:53] This all makes sense to me because I didn't grow up in the PS1 era, so I really like Expedition 1 through 6 from the era."
Conclusion on Claire Obscure: With strong support from both the audience and the panel, Claire Obscure Expedition 33 emerges as the clear frontrunner for Game of the Year, praised for its nostalgic yet fresh approach to RPGs.
While Claire Obscure Expedition 33 dominates the conversation, the panel doesn’t overlook other noteworthy titles receiving high praise this year:
Doom: The Dark Ages
