That'll talk about this week's news, which is last week when you're listening or watching this.

So, Nick, I think this is your first time joining us for 100 questions. The way this works, it's very similar to regular 20 questions but I have selected five games. They're all suggestions from out there in Scoop Nation. Five games, and you have 100 questions with which to guess all five games. And what's kind of interesting, Nick, is you can bank questions. So if you get the first game in 10 questions, well, you have an extra 10 questions to use on. On the. On the final four games.

So let me demonstrate how this plays out, nick. We spend 31 questions trying to get the first one, and then we abandon it and then have fewer questions for all the rest of them and never ever get the first one.

Well, what we thought it was last time is that the game was a licensed property. For example, if you wanted to license it and it's out there, but this is a company that licensed it themselves. But that turned out to be wrong. That's not what it was for the last game. So that's what it could be for this game. An example would be that Lucas Games is now publishing Lucas. You know, Lucas games. Games, like they're. It's a self contained situation.

The most recent example, Nick, was Lies of P. Oh, Pinocchio. But it's public domain, so. Yeah. Yeah, but this is not that scenario.

But if you're. If you're slashing them up, you'll sword slash them a hundred times, but shooting them with a gun, you're like, no, thank you.

I was like, the only game in which bullet sponges are acceptable is Splatoon. Because that's in universe.

Yeah. I think that that E3 trailer was the first time there was, like, the fake co op game experience where, like, there are players communicating with each other and, you know, playing the trailer.

I used to work Best Buy at Black Friday for six years. So I am a veteran of the Black Friday wars where you meet the most interesting people who also make sure, if you do actually go out on Black Friday, make sure you're actually buying something that's on sale. Because you'd be surprised. A lot of people just buy normal stuff at full price.

No, I have never gone to a store to shop at Best Friday as a tea. Black Friday, Best Buy Black Friday as a teen, we a couple Black Fridays in a row. We went out and caused like a ruckus. We went into stores and just hassled people, which I'm not like, proud of, but, like, it did happen. And nice B roll. And yeah, then I'm like, oh, no, I'm not really interested in doing this. And the Internet became a thing.

Longtime listener, first time writer. This isn't so much of a question, just a story. I wanted to share a little about myself. I'm an ex Nintendo employee. As I transitioned out of that role with Nintendo and into a more lucrative position in the hand tool industry, I grew older, had a family. Next thing you know, I'm a lapsed gamer. How could this be? I've been playing video games before I could talk. My job was to talk to fans about video games. I worked for the best video game company in the world. This couldn't be happening. Not to me. But sadly, here I was without video games, sitting in my video game room, staring at my dusty switch, Xbox and PlayStation. Truthfully, the only thing that kept me holding on to the video game industry was is gamescoop. It was one of those episodes of Gamescoop that I heard one of my favorite video game personalities, Justin, rave about a little game called Vampire Survivors. I thought to myself, boy, that sounds like fun. Long story short, after battling with the idea of gaming again, I picked up the controller for Vampire Survivors. And I haven't put it down since. All I think about within reason when I have free time. Justin, I know you've named some other garlic likes, but what are some of your favorites that I could move on to once this run is over?

[Sam Claiborne]

What a great.

Let me pull up my nerd stuff spreadsheet where keep all of these. Yeah, Brotato is really, really good. You played that one, right, Damon?

[Damon Hadfield]

I haven't played Brotato.

[Nick Limone]

Oh, Halls of Torment is probably my favorite. That was the one that won Garlic like of the year. There's a really good. Well, like, Soulstone Survivors is pretty good. Bone Raiser Minions. That's another one you would like.

[Damon Hadfield]

That's a good title.

[Nick Limone]

Yeah, it's really cool. They made a shockingly competent Vampire Survivors clone based off the Nicolas Cage movie Renfield.

[Justin Davis]

Oh, yeah.

[Nick Limone]

And it's like, it's one of those things where like, you know, it's not incredible, but it's like it's like 10 times better than it really deserves to be or should be. So the Renfield one is really good. And then Death Must Die is the other one that I've name dropped before.

Justin, I'm so sorry. You did just say it. But what's the one that's like Diablo? That's a garlic. Like the Halls of Torment. There you go.

Halls of Torment. And that one recently came out of early Access. So this is the Renfield one that we're looking at now.

Crazy. I saw this movie.

I have Halls of Torment. I have Halls of Torment installed on my Steam deck, But I haven't started it up yet. It's on my list.

Yeah, well, thank you for listening. That one's sweet. I'm a firm believer that, like, if someone's a lapsed gamer is not as into games or even a genre of games, like, oh, I'm not feeling RPGs. It's like you just need like the right. Like I thought in my head, I'm like, I don't have the time or patience to play gigantic 80 hour, 100 hour RPGs anymore. But then Baldur's Gate came around and I said, nope, I was just waiting for the right game. And then I was just as immersed and sucked in as I ever have been.

[Sam Claiborne]

So I really hope that this person had an experience at one point in which a sibling of theirs or maybe a spouse's sibling also had kids. And then those kids were able to say, my uncle works in Nintendo. And this is what I. Yeah.

[Nick Limone]

That'S awesome. I'm afraid to Google the hand tool industry on my work computer.

[Damon Hadfield]

I thought that was a little odd also. But hey, that's where Corey C. Ended up.

It sounds like a cool job to not only work for Nintendo, but also communicate with fans on behalf of Nintendo. That's always. That's always fun.

Yeah. Yeah. Well, what, I mean, what would that role be recently be? Like social media, classified information, Social editor for Nintendo Power?

[Sam Claiborne]

Yeah, yeah, that's the romanticized version.

[Damon Hadfield]

Yeah. They don't have gameplay counselors anymore, do they?

[Sam Claiborne]

No, they did all kinds of promotional material and tours and stuff like that.

[Justin Davis]

He intercepts fans when they go to try and talk to Miyamoto. He says, I'm sorry, you can't pass.

[Sam Claiborne]

You know what's cool is, remember the situation at E3? And maybe it's like this at Gamescom. In fact, I think I know it's like this at Gamescom that I think about it. But the people manning the booths were just regular Nintendo employees. They would apply throughout the year. Xbox was the same thing. Or they would just kind of get involved and then they would get to go to E3 and they would just kind of like help people through demos and booths. Right? And that was really cool because I'd always ask them, like, oh, what do you do at Microsoft? You know, and they'd be like, oh, actually I do our like, you know, corporate audio for all of our meetings. Like, stuff like that. It was really, really cool. And so, you know, and Nintendo was, you know, you get a sense for how big and tech level these companies are when you start talking to people about stuff like that. Like, they're fans, they like games. But like, their job might be something as mundane as like, you know, custodial work or something and.

[Nick Limone]

But.

[Sam Claiborne]

But they work for Nintendo and they get that opportunity. It's really cool.

[Nick Limone]

Yeah. I think an important sort of growing up realization is that, you know, you can get into the video game industry without being a designer or programmer. But it's like Nintendo needs accountants. So like, whatever you went to school for, like, that discipline is probably transferable to be like, adjacent to the. To the hobby that you love a lot.

[Sam Claiborne]

Yeah. Like, I can see another life in which, like, you know, if you wanted to work for Nintendo, like become a lawyer, like do entertainment law. Nintendo needs those all the time. And you need them. You need them for other jurisdictions. Right? You need them for. You can't have the same lawyer force in the US that you have in Italy or Japan or whatever. So they need a worldwide. It's pretty cool.

[Justin Davis]

But be a cool lawyer that doesn't shut down, like fan games and stuff. Be a chill.

[Sam Claiborne]

I don't know if those fan games deserve it. They deserve it.

[Nick Limone]

Be a chill lawyer. Like, dude, I mean, whatever. Like, I. There's plenty of lawyers in my life that I love a lot, but professionally, I think chill lawyer is a little bit of like, they have no Chilly moron.

Well, I'm going to play more Halo. I might go into Halo 3. However, I am excited because when we all come back from vacation and in December, there's a bunch of big games out suddenly. And I'm really excited for December in Indiana Jones. I think Infinity Nikki is going to be one of the biggest games on earth. So I'm just excited to cover that and talk about it and stuff like that. And then there's a bunch of multiplayer cool games with Marvel Rivals and Delta Force and stuff hitting and then Path of Exile. It's a crazy December and it's going to be really fun talking about all those games. So. Looking forward to that.

[Damon Hadfield]

Yeah. When we come back from this break. Yeah, there's only three episodes of Game Sweep left and that whole month is going to be filled with. We'll be talking a lot about Indiana Jones, I'm sure. And then there's all the Game of the Year wrap up stuff which will culminate in the Damies, of course. So yeah, this whole year.

If I may make a quick suggestion for all of those who are in a tryptophan induced coma and looking for something to watch. Highly Recommend Watching a two hour documentary on the making of Half Life 2, which Valve just dropped. I watched it. It's incredible. It's so fascinating. You learn so much stuff. You see a sneak peek at what was Half Life 3 or Half Life episode 3.

Isn't that crazy?

It has since. Oh yeah, it looks.

I'm.

I'm excited, man. It seems like they're going to cook on something. I think that, yeah, the way Gabe ends the documentary, it feels very like wink, wink, nudge, nudge, it's coming. And I cannot wait. I redownloaded half life2 to celebrate. So I'm probably gonna be playing that.

It would have been really cool if they did this though. And they just gave it to Digital Eclipse and they're like, hey, can you guys just do this instead of us? And then they put this all in one of their formats and then you got to play all the Half Life stuff that was under.

[Nick Limone]

How crazy would it be nuts if like that moment in Portal where you break out of the portal like environment for the first time. Is it's a digital eclipse, like, Half Life game, and it's the timeline and it's the interviews and everything. Then you click on something and then half life three just starts and you're like.

[Sam Claiborne]

Man.

[Nick Limone]

Wake up, Mr. Freeman. What am I playing? So I downloaded the Black Ops 6 campaign, and you are all right. It is great. It's so good.

[Sam Claiborne]

Is it open world, the first open world part yet?

[Nick Limone]

Yeah, that's around where I started is, like, that first area. No, really good. Really snappy. Like, the writing is very like Call of Duty writing. Right. But I kind of, like, after playing Metaphor and Dragon Age, I kind of appreciate, like, the Hollywood movie of, like, look, we're just going to get you into the action right away. And like, no, it's awesome. Like, I wouldn't pay $70 for it, but as a game pass, you know, weekend game, it's perfect.

[Damon Hadfield]

Yeah. That's another thing I mean to play. And then also I forgot. I just. I downloaded Flight Simulator 2024 today, too, so. So I definitely want to check that out as well.

[Sam Claiborne]

It's harder than landing planes and Top Gun for nes. That's what I heard.

So. Harder than impossible.

Yeah, exactly.
