Title: The Motivation Myth Subtitle: How High Achievers Really Set Themselves Up to Win Author: Jeff Haden Narrator: Ray Porter Format: Unabridged Length: 6 hrs and 30 mins Language: English Release date: 01-09-18 Publisher: Penguin Audio Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 62 votes Genres: Business, Career Skills Publisher's Summary: From Inc.com's most popular columnist, a counterintuitive - but highly practical - guide to finding and maintaining the motivation to achieve great things. It's comforting to imagine that superstars in their fields were just born better equipped than the rest of us. When a co-worker loses 20 pounds, or a friend runs a marathon while completing a huge project at work, we assume they have more grit, more willpower, more innate talent, and above all, more motivation to see their goals through. But that's not at actually true, as popular Inc.com columnist Jeff Haden proves. "Motivation" as we know it is a myth. Motivation isn't the special sauce that we require at the beginning of any major change. In fact, motivation is a result of process, not a cause. Understanding this will change the way you approach any obstacle or big goal. Haden shows us how to reframe our thinking about the relationship of motivation to success. He meets us at our level - at the beginning of any big goal we have for our lives, a little anxious and unsure about our way forward, a little burned by self-help books and strategies that have failed us in the past - and offers practical advice that anyone can use to stop stalling and start working on those dreams. Haden takes the mystery out of accomplishment, proving that success isn't about spiritual awakening or a lightning bolt of inspiration - as Tony Robbins and adherents of The Secret believe - but instead, about clear and repeatable processes. Using his own advice, Haden has consistently drawn two million views a month to his posts, completed a 107-mile long mountain bike race, and lost 10 pounds in a month. Success isn't for the uniquely-qualified; it's possible for any person who understands the true nature of motivation. Jeff Haden can help you transcend average and make lasting positive change in your life. Members Reviews: A quick and worthwhile read What I like most about this book is that the author doesn't waste my time. There aren't chapters filled with bragging that many books with similar goals seem to think is required, perhaps to qualify the author. Instead there are excellent ideas that I'd not heard before about how motivation actually works, as well as details about building frameworks and processes to achieve your goals. Well thought out examples clarified and "todo" lists called me to action and helped me realize that I'd been working toward the wrong things, and in the incorrect order. Ray Porter's narration is perfect, as always. He reads with passion and his style fits the author's voice well. Recommended! Awesome Anyone that inspires to do anything great or just get their life in order, needs to listen to this audio. PERIOD! Actually motivating I read a lot of these sort of books and thus really sticks out. Well done. Good content I found this useful but could not finish as the narrator not my cup of tea. Must read for guidance to stay motivated Good book with lots of interesting stories about why the journey to success is more important than the goal. The narrator is energetic and thought provoking. Would definitely recommend it

Title: Treating People Well Subtitle: The Extraordinary Power of Civility at Work and in Life Author: Lea Berman, Jeremy Bernard Narrator: Lea Berman, Jeremy Bernard Format: Unabridged Length: 6 hrs and 50 mins Language: English Release date: 01-09-18 Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 13 votes Genres: Business, Career Skills Publisher's Summary: A guide to personal and professional empowerment through civility and social skills by two White House social secretaries who offer an important fundamental message - everyone is important, and everyone deserves to be treated well. Part etiquette, part leadership, part personal empowerment, Treating People Well is a guide to developing social skills in order to build more successful relationships in life and at work. Manners and etiquette are more relevant than ever in today's technology burdened, politically contentious world that has left many people feeling disconnected and uncomfortable in their interactions with others. Written by two former White House social secretaries, Treating People Well provides the tools we need to live each day more positively and forge connections based on trust and mutual respect. Packed with intriguing behind-the-scenes anecdotes and sensible, easy-to-follow advice, Treating People Well explains how to develop confidence, be consistent, use humor, listen deliberately, radiate calm, resolve conflicts quickly, be honest but never cruel, cultivate loyalty, own your mistakes, work with difficult people, and attend to details. Lea Berman and Jeremy Bernard worked for very different administrations (Lea for George and Laura Bush and Jeremy for the Obamas), but their White House experiences were strikingly similar. They realized that social skills, such as charm, humor, and grace are teachable life lessons and can make you an invaluable member of any team. Lea and Jeremy honed skills over years of working in the most charged workplace possible. If their strategies were effective at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, they'll be effective anywhere. Members Reviews: Amazingly Beautifully Written Book Where does Treating People Well rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far? My first audio book is at number 1 :) What other book might you compare Treating People Well to and why? I've never read any book quite like this one before. Which scene was your favorite? The Whitehouse scene Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you? Everyone is important. Everyone deserves to be treated well. Any additional comments? I'm only at 55 minutes into the book, and I went back to the beginning with a new notebook so I could take notes because I thought this book was a very important read! Worthwhile and Entertaining I enjoyed Treating People Well. There are tips on behaving well interwoven with anecdotes and stories from the authors time serving in the White House. This book would be useful for all For those of us who appreciate a good reminder on how to navigate difficult situations with grace, or how to treat others who might be difficult, or happen to have differing views, beliefs, or opinions. This book would be especially useful for young people entering their careers. The book contains common sense wisdom that might take us more mature years to learnsuch as letting most things go ,and not dwelling or brooding since most things we fret about are inconsequential. Highly recommend if want to feel inspired to rise above and treat others well.

Title: Elizabeth Fry: Angel of Newgate Subtitle: Heroes of History Author: Janet Benge, Geoff Benge Narrator: Rebecca Gallagher Format: Unabridged Length: 5 hrs and 10 mins Language: English Release date: 10-11-17 Publisher: YWAM Publishing Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Religious Figures Publisher's Summary: Betsy felt her heart lurch. Just over a mile from where she stood, women and children existed in conditions more deplorable than the slums she routinely visited. Why hadn't she investigated this before? Without a second thought, she said, "Something must be done immediately for those poor, suffering children. I will go to them tomorrow." Exposed to the horrendous living conditions of women prisoners and their children, Elizabeth Fry pledged to improve the lives of society's most desperate people - something no one else dared to do. Telling doubters, "If I don't, who will?" Betsy became one of England's greatest reformers and one of the 19th century's most beloved people. Guided by her Quaker values, she led efforts in education and literacy, prison reform, and - together with figures such as William Wilberforce and Thomas Fowell Buxton - the abolition of slavery. Elizabeth Fry (1780-1845) insisted on justice and forever changed the way human beings treat one another. Heroes of History is a unique biography series that brings the shaping of history to life with the remarkable true stories of fascinating men and women who changed the course of history. The stories of Heroes of History are told in an engaging narrative format, where related history, geography, government, and science topics come to life and make a lasting impression. This is a premier biography line for the entire family. Members Reviews: The power of a committed Christian woman to change the lives of the helpless. Well written narrative of a Christian woman who made a difference. I had not heard of Elizabeth Fry but the Benge's book showed what a strong and self-sacrificing woman she was. This was in a time when women were 2nd class citizens and had no vote. Truly she was a woman to be admired and emulated.

Title: Finish Subtitle: Give Yourself the Gift of Done Author: Jon Acuff Narrator: Jon Acuff Format: Unabridged Length: 4 hrs and 58 mins Language: English Release date: 09-12-17 Publisher: Penguin Audio Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 897 votes Genres: Business, Career Skills Publisher's Summary: From New York Times best-selling author Jon Acuff, a book for those who want relief from always starting and never being done. Jon Acuff, sought-after speaker and consultant, is the friend who always gives you great advice. With his self-deprecating humor and charm, he has won over hundreds of thousands of followers who come to him for both encouragement and a kick in the pants. Now, after showing you how to reboot your career in his New York Times best seller Do Over, Acuff shows chronic starters how to actually finish their goals in an age of bottomless distractions and endless opportunities. Acuff knows the reason why many writers' novels go unfinished - it's the same reason why gyms are filled in the first week of January and empty by the end of the month and why people stop learning a new language once they get past the easy parts. It's not just that people lose momentum or get distracted. People give up on projects when they fail to live up to their own high expectations and decide that if they can't do something perfectly, they won't do it at all. If you're going to finish, you have to kill perfectionism. Drawing on his popular 30 Days of Hustle course, Acuff teaches listeners to short-circuit perfectionism and make it through to the end of a task. Whether it's by "choosing what to bomb" or "cutting a goal in half", he shows listeners how to move past "the day after perfect", get focused, and - finally - finish. Members Reviews: I couldn't finish it! I couldnt finish it! Ive listened to half of Finish, but couldnt see the point of finishing it through. While I honestly tried and couldnt find but positive reviews for the book, to me, it fell in the common trap of most self improvement books. A book picks a subject of matter, and then in few hundred pages try to makeup on the point that everything under the sun falls under his topic of focus. Very often blind sided by other important factors. Sort of like when youre holding a hammer, and want to nail everything down regardless. For Finish, it was Perfectionism. The book kept repeatedly saying perfectionism says..., and then made the claim. First problem is, the author assumes the biggest problem is perfectionism, which means most people are Perfectionists. However most people, including myself, arent perfectionists. Most people are satisfied with average results. Some even mediocre ones. Yet they still struggle to finish. For different reasons. Not enough motivation Inability to focus Enjoy partying and having fun more Learning new skill is hard, so brain resists it to favor comfort. Fear of failure: Different than seeking perfectionism, many are happy to be good, but never want to feel failure. It's socially unacceptable in many societies still. It also involves risk factor. And many other reasons. And while the book might touch on some of these points, it does so by assuming its related to perfectionism most of the time. It does it so often, and under different contexts, that I ended up questioning my understanding of the word perfectionism, I had to lookup the dictionary again for its meaning.

Members Reviews: DO NOT GET THE AUDIO BOOK GET THE BOOK BOOK This was a great book but not a good audio book. Imagine someone reading you a workbook, thats what this is. Skip the audiobook and get the real book! A Great Start to Finding Your Why It takescourage to lay the 'How' on the table for the world to pick apart. A lesser team would have been thwarted by the challenge of deconstructing and communicating a very human journey into a roadmap that can help guide so many of us. For me, the timing of this book was critical. As I read, it became clear that my difficulty in leaping into the unknown of my 'why' was because I couldn't see the 'how' ahead of me. Find Your Why gave me the confidence to clearly speak about the things I already knew and believed in, but handed quite figured out how to apply in a business environment. If you already know that your 'Why' is helping others discover theirs, this book will give you the words you need to inspire them to start looking and the tools you need to help them discover it. Thank you to the SWW team for having the courage lead and leap first. A recipe book for How to Start with Why While the book specifically states you must have a partner to complete the individual Why Discover Process, I attest I was able to best articulate my WHY more precisely and succinctly than ever before. This book is a turn by turn recipe book for facilitating or undergoing a Why Discovery. Read Start with Why first and this book will make complete sense and you will want to lead yourself or team through the discovery. Not his best stuff For this book to be successful you need to have a partner, in which case getting the audible version doesnt make much sense. I also found it very repetitive with start with why? I also think there are better books out there to find your passion or reason for what you do in this world.

© dominio pubblico (P)2017 Silvia Cecchini
