Ari
Hi, guys.
Ange
I'm Ange. And I'm Ari.
Ari
And this is girls Gone Bible. And today we have two very special guests. It's not the first time and it won't be their last. Their names are Ali Yost and Ashley Hetherington.
Ali Yost
Do we applaud?
Ange
Yeah, we applaud.
Ari
Everybody applaud.
Ali Yost
Love you guys.
Ange
Thank you guys for coming.
Ashley Hetherington
Thanks for having us.
Ange
It's been exactly one year since the.
Ari
First time they came on.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah. Which is crazy. Time has flown.
Ari
Time has flown.
Ashley Hetherington
Time has flown. Right by.
Ari
So much has happened since then. You guys, Allie and Ashley are two of probably the greatest people I've personally ever met. And I actually really mean that. You guys are dear friends. And Ashley, you do so much for Jesus. You have a YouTube channel. You have like a big, big social media presence and you literally lead and guide girls and people in general. I don't know your demographic, but you guide so many people with your authentic love for Jesus and you reach so many people. And the Lord really is using you in such a beautiful way. And Al's Ali has a podcast called Christ with Coffee on Ice.
Ashley Hetherington
Yes. And not Coffee with Christ on Ice.
Ali Yost
Sometimes Christ coffee.
Ashley Hetherington
Christ on Ice. Guys, it's just the coffee.
Ari
Who's says that?
Ashley Hetherington
Sometimes it's a tongue twister.
Ari
It is a tongue twist on my fight. You never know.
Ali Yost
Yeah. Oh, my God.
Ari
And you have a massive social media presence as well. And you guys both talk about Jesus. You lead people to Jesus. And I always say this when I talk about you guys, when I introduce you to People, I'm like, I think social media ministry, online ministry can have such a bad rep sometimes. Rightfully so at times. You never know people's intentions. But for how popular you guys are, for how much influence you have, I have never seen people in this space with as much purity in their hearts as you two. I am not hyping you up right now. You keep the main thing. The main thing. You are not in it. Like, you would never know that you guys, like, have what you have. Like, you would never know upon meeting you, because you're just like, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. I really thank so much.
Ashley Hetherington
That's the sweetest ever. Thank you guys.
Ali Yost
We love you.
Ashley Hetherington
He keeps me humble.
Ali Yost
Oh, yeah. I wanna be.
Ashley Hetherington
Is on the ground.
Ali Yost
Under the ground. We're so honored to be here. We just love you guys. We are amazed at what the Lord's doing through you both. Through Gagaba.
Ari
We call them Gagaba. Guys, let's hear it.
Ali Yost
They're Gagaba, and we just love y'all. And you guys are just, like, taking the world by storm for Jesus. And even just hearing about Boston, like, how, you know, a thousand people were there. I mean, in. In a place probably more than a thousand. Correct. In a place where it's like, not Jesus, you know? And so even to hear that, I'm like, oh, my goodness, it's happening. Souls are being saved in the most unlikely places in America, in the world, and you guys are being used by the Lord to do it.
Ashley Hetherington
So you guys on. We know. So proud of you guys. Like, whoa.
Ange
Well, we are so proud of you because you had me up all night watching Jesus freaks. It was so comforting.
Ali Yost
You binged it.
Ange
My mom, she did.
Ari
My mom goes, where are those two girls? With the channel, with the reality show. She is obsessed.
Ashley Hetherington
Where are those two Jesus freaks?
Ari
Sorry, keep going.
Ashley Hetherington
No.
Ange
Even for the unbeliever, how comforting is it to them? I actually had an unbeliever tell me how comforting and how you actually planted the seed for them, for Jesus.
Ali Yost
Oh, thank you.
Ange
It's like being with your best friends. You guys are just so non judgmental. And you guys come from such a place of purity and love, like Ange said. And can you guys just talk about it a little bit?
Ashley Hetherington
Little bit of it.
Ali Yost
Little bit about Jesus.
Ari
Let's, let's. Okay, so we're gonna. We want to know. So you guys were living in Nashville when you came here last? You came to LA just to come on this podcast and to do, like, a little swap?
Ashley Hetherington
No, this is the story. Go ahead and it starts with Yalls podcast.
Ali Yost
So cool. I think we're going to just toss it up to each other. We'll just tell this story.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah. So the last time we were here, obviously a year ago on Yalls podcast, we flew out here. I had just moved to Nashville from la. I had just met Ashley, like, a couple months before that, and I was probably about three months into my move, all the way out in Nashville, and then you guys had reached out, and we were like, oh, my gosh, yes. And then I was like, okay, well, I just lived there, so it'd be so great to, like, even show Ash around. We can make a trip out of it.
Ali Yost
Whatever.
Ashley Hetherington
We'll stay for a week. So we come on your pod. And then we just kept. I don't know, the Lord just, like, started moving, and we were meeting all these incredible people, which I didn't know existed because. Yeah, out of nowhere. My impression when I first lived here is, like, there just weren't that many people who loved, like, really loved Jesus would, like, die for him, obsessed with him. And so to experience that on this trip, three months after, I just moved out of the city, I was like, what? Where were these people? God, like, even y'all. Like, we weren't even connected, but we were all still living in the same city, so whatever. Yeah, the Lord was just moving and. Do you want to take the baton now?
Ali Yost
Yeah. So.
Ashley Hetherington
So now it's been a week, and we're, like, thriving. We're like, what is going on, God?
Ali Yost
We're thriving. It's been a week, and then we're like, you know, maybe it should be two weeks. So we don't. We keep delaying.
Ari
You're at my house.
Ali Yost
We were staying.
Ari
Where were we? Who cares?
Ange
I don't know.
Ali Yost
Wait, I think you were traveling somewhere. You guys were outside.
Ari
We went somewhere.
Ali Yost
You guys were somewhere. And we were literally staying in Ange's house. I'm, like, experiencing the presentation.
Ashley Hetherington
She was anointed as freak, by the way. Oh, my gosh.
Ali Yost
This was everywhere in Ange's place. And I was like.
Ashley Hetherington
I was like, I love it here. I love it.
Ari
Is it all the crucifixes?
Ashley Hetherington
The cabinet.
Ali Yost
Wake up. Crucifix right there.
Ashley Hetherington
You had just, like, a picture of Jesus on your cabinet printed out just like on your cabinet.
Ali Yost
This is the best place ever.
Ashley Hetherington
There's, like, communion scattered everywhere.
Ari
So weird.
Ashley Hetherington
It was amazing.
Ali Yost
I felt the presence of God in your place. And not only that, we were, like, just going to hb. We were meeting with all these People who just love the Lord. So. So many people in LA and just Southern California. We were like, we cannot leave. So we end up extending our trip. We're having the time of our lives. I'm in the middle of, like, book season, so I'm like. I'm, like, working hard, but I'm like, oh, my gosh, this is crazy. I did not see this coming. That I would just adore this place and the people here. We then end up going back to Nashville after, like, three weeks.
Ashley Hetherington
We stayed for, like, three weeks.
Ari
Wow.
Ali Yost
And we're like, okay, it feels different.
Ashley Hetherington
We.
Ali Yost
We. It almost felt like God's hand was over us in Nashville. And then all of a sudden, we went back to Nashville, and it was, like, off.
Ange
Wow.
Ashley Hetherington
The grace moved. It was off.
Ali Yost
And I look at Allie, and I was like, I feel like we're not supposed to be here. Like, it just didn't feel right. It didn't.
Ashley Hetherington
We were in my kitchen.
Ali Yost
It felt like the season had expired. And we're like, what is going on?
Ari
And I both felt the same thing.
Ali Yost
Oh, yeah, we did.
Ashley Hetherington
So we're.
Ali Yost
We're literally in her kitchen, and we're, like, listening to the songs that we would listen to on our California trip.
Ashley Hetherington
Like, we were so sad, girls.
Ali Yost
We're like.
Ashley Hetherington
We miss it.
Ali Yost
And we just were talking to each other, like, what would it look like? You know, does God want us to move here? Like, what do we do? And we're just talking about if God even is gonna break out in California, which we've been hearing about so much. Yeah, we'll talk about it, and we're gonna talk about it, but we're just talking and hearing at one another's opinions and thoughts and praying. And then we end up coming back after my book launches. We then end up coming back for, like, a vacation. Like, it's actually a vacation, but also.
Ashley Hetherington
Kind of like, all right, God, if you're gonna show us that this is actually what you want us to do. Cause we were kind of getting an inkling. Like, it felt like God was just kind of, like, about it.
Ange
Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
And we were like, okay, God, we need you to, like, really prove it then, because if you want us to move, we'll do it. But we needed. We. I think we just needed a little bit more confirmation.
Ari
Yeah, totally.
Ashley Hetherington
So.
Ari
This episode is brought to you by no cd. Have you ever had a really stressful, unwanted thought pop up during worship? Maybe it made you feel like you needed to start your prayer over, because it wasn't quote unquote right or perfect. Or it filled you with shame or caused crushing guilt because it felt like it offended God. Well, a lot of people have thoughts like these, and including Ari and I, and you guys trust us, we know how scary and isolating they can be to struggle with. They can even lead to compulsive behavior like constantly asking for reassurance, punishing yourself for having bad thoughts, or worrying about participating in religious practices like praying, quote unquote incorrectly. But here is what changed everything for us. Learning that these thoughts aren't character flaws or signs of weak faith. They might be symptoms of religious ocd, also known as scrupulosity. OCD is really misunderstood, so a lot of people are surprised to learn that it can focus on religion. But it's true. OCD can latch onto literally anything that you deeply care about, including your faith. And when it does, it can be devastating. But there's hope because with the right kind of therapy, OCD is highly treatable. That's where NOCD comes in. With no cd, you can do virtual therapy designed specifically for ocd. Their licensed therapists deeply understand OCD as well as your faith and how important it is in your life. They'll help you work through these thoughts using Exposure and Response Prevention, or erp, a type of specialized therapy that's the most proven treatment for ocd. NOCD also accepts many major insurance plans including United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna and more, and always provides always on support between your therapy sessions. If any of this sounds familiar, you're not alone. You guys know Ari and I have both struggled with ocd obsessive thoughts and it can be really devastating. But no CD can help. Visit nocd.com to schedule a free 15 minute call and learn more. That's N O C D. To learn more and book a free call. The Chosen is a groundbreaking historical drama based on the life of Jesus, played by Jonathan Roumie, seen through the eyes of those who knew him. Set against the backdrop of Roman oppression in first century Israel, the seven season series shares an authentic and intimate look at Jesus's revolutionary life and teachings. The greatest story in the World. The Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Life of Jesus. I love it so much. And with over 250 million viewers, the Chosen as one of the most watched shows in the world, the series is consistently a top performer across every streaming platform such as Amazon Prime, Peacock and Netflix. Plus a top rated broadcast weekly on the cw. What started as just a little crowdfunded project has now garnered over 800 million episode views and more than 17 million social media followers. The Chosen is an independent production, written, directed and executive produced by Dallas Jenkins and distributed globally by Lionsgate. If you guys don't know, now you're about to know. The Chosen hold such a dear place in Ariana's heart because literally when we became friends, before she even started reading the Bible, I showed her the Chosen because I wanted her to start learning about Jesus. And I wanted her, when we did start reading the Bible, to already have an understanding and be familiar with the people in the Bible that we'd be reading about. And so in Ari's life and in my life, when we first became friends. And the Chosen is back for Holy Week, the most pivotal week in human history. Tables are turned, friends are betrayed, and powerful leaders plot the death of Jesus. The Chosen Last Supper is the must see event of the Easter season. It's in theaters March 28th in the US and April 10th worldwide. And to give you a little season five synopsis, listen to this. The best story. The people of Israel welcomed Jesus as king, while his disciples anticipate his crowning. But instead of confronting Rome, he turns the tables on the Jewish religious festival. Their powers threatened, the country's religious and political leaders will go to any length to ensure that this Passover meal is Jesus's last. You guys can get tickets to the Chosen Last Supper at the Chosen Last supper dot com.
Ashley Hetherington
And so we came back out and like, you know, met up with all of our friends. But also we were like, God, you need to just like, speak while we're out here. So we kind of did the same thing all over again. We were looking at places, stayed out here for like another three weeks. We just kept pushing.
Ali Yost
We thought we were gonna live in hb and then God said, no, you're gonna live Huntington Beach. We thought we were gonna live in the O.C.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah, Orange County.
Ali Yost
And we felt the Lord lead us to move to la. And Allie was like, oh, my goodness. And I was just even thinking about this for Elle, she literally had so much faith to leave la, live in Nashville, believe that, like, that was where her life was going to be for the next five to 10 years, whatever. And then to have the faith that this girl had, that's crazy. To up and move her life, still have unpacked boxes in Nashville, and then to go right back to California is literally insane. And I don't think we talk about it enough that she actually will go wherever God tells her to go. She will. We hear that in this, in this Bible. Drop everything and follow me. This Girl does it.
Ari
Aw.
Ashley Hetherington
I try.
Ali Yost
She did.
Ashley Hetherington
She did. Well, you know what really set me off? This was the last moment for me is I went up into my bedroom, and I look at my closet. Well, okay. I'm downstairs making myself a coffee, and all of a sudden, I hear this big, like, from upstairs. I'm like, what is that? And I go upstairs, and all of my clothes. My whole. All of my clothes that I had hanging, which was. All of my clothes had collapsed and fallen on the ground. No. And I was like, I am not folding all of these. And that was also at the same time. It was right after we got back from the trip. And I was like, God, do you want us to move? And then all of my clothes are on the floor. And I was like, I took a video of it. I still have it. I said, I'm just gonna start putting things in boxes again. I was like, I am not gonna hang all my stuff. If God was really calling us to. That would be such a waste of my time. I'm like, I might as well just put it. I felt like it was God being like, start packing your stuff. Isn't that crazy?
Ari
I love him so much. That is, actually.
Ashley Hetherington
So we said, God, confirm. And there were plenty of things, like little eggs that he was throwing and showing us where he was. Like, this is what I'm calling you to do. Like, don't doubt it, you know?
Ali Yost
But we didn't have a house.
Ashley Hetherington
No, see, on our terms. We were like, well, then give us a house.
Ali Yost
We're like, where are we moving then?
Ashley Hetherington
Then give us a home. And then the Lord was like, why do you need a house to do? Like, if I'm calling you to do it, you should just trust that I will provide. It was almost like we weren't willing to step out in that much faith, right? But God was like, so if I told you to go and, like, maybe you don't technically have a home just yet, would you still go? And we were like, like, you shouldn't need a home to confirm this. You know what I mean? So we were like, you know what? Ashley and I are. I don't know what got into us. You guys are the Holy Ghost. We were psychotic. We said, okay, we're gonna get an Airbnb. We're gonna rent out a storage space. We're gonna put all our furniture in there. We're just gonna figure it out.
Ali Yost
I got.
Ashley Hetherington
I got my two dogs. We're like, ashley needed a new car, so she's like, I'll leave my Car.
Ali Yost
I literally love my car.
Ashley Hetherington
We're driving across the country.
Ari
In my day, it was probably so.
Ashley Hetherington
Fun with my two dogs.
Ali Yost
It actually was very funny and terrifying.
Ashley Hetherington
Three days straight. Nah, it wasn't terrifying. It was fun.
Ari
Why is it terrifying?
Ali Yost
There were some moments where I was like, I don't think I'm physically going to make it.
Ange
I know. It's fine.
Ali Yost
We're just driving that much. It's hard.
Ange
I drove from Boston.
Ali Yost
It's awful.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah, it's a lot. It's a lot when there's a woman. I was like, where is a man? I don't want to carry all this.
Ali Yost
But it's fine.
Ashley Hetherington
We managed. So did we.
Ange
Did you. Sorry to get off track.
Ari
Did you drive with the dogs?
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah, all the dogs were in there too.
Ange
Oh, yeah.
Ali Yost
Every hotel.
Ashley Hetherington
Every dog friendly hotels. But her dad was so kind. He like literally mapped out. God bless your father.
Ali Yost
God bless him.
Ashley Hetherington
He was like, hey, I got you girls. This is where you're gonna stop on the. At this time of this day and then you're gonna stay at this hotel. So actually, like, we did have help.
Ali Yost
Yeah, it was wonderful.
Ashley Hetherington
And he helped plan the whole. We knew exactly what hotels are. I know what.
Ali Yost
So yeah, we moved. We didn't have a house. And that's starting out the story. It's crazy.
Ari
That is actually amazing.
Ashley Hetherington
But it started with your podcast.
Ali Yost
Yeah, it did.
Ari
Thank you, Jesus. Thank God you're here.
Ali Yost
God used you guys.
Ashley Hetherington
He used you.
Ari
I love you guys.
Ange
It's so crazy because everyone's moving from LA to Tennessee.
Ali Yost
Oh, yeah.
Ange
Right.
Ali Yost
Yeah.
Ange
Everybody.
Ashley Hetherington
Other way.
Ali Yost
Except for going against the grain.
Ashley Hetherington
We're like, see ya everybody. We're going the way you're coming.
Ari
And you always say, right, that the only that. Well, your faith was really formed in Nashville right. When you were there for those three months. But then your other purpose in going to Nashville was to go pick up Ashley Mer in crime here.
Ali Yost
Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
No, it's true. Yeah. My, my, like spiritual maturity, it was supernatural. Not saying I'm like super mature right now in the spirit, but I'm. I was more okay, but I was way. I just was alone with the Lord in the middle of West Hollywood, you know? So at that point before I moved to Nashville, I was just doing the best I could watching the sermons online and like trying to go to church, but I really wasn't finding a whole lot of community. And so anyway, with the church we got plugged in with in Nashville, it just to have that community. Like, if I could just speak life into anybody. I know. I'm sure it's a desire of everyone's hearts, but, like, please don't settle for just going to church online. Because there was something for me, and I believe it's true. For it's what we were made for. We were made to be in community. We were made for church. But something about, like, my spirit man grew 10 times. It was like the Grinch with his heart. Like, I grew so big just from being around so many people who were on fire for the Lord. I was learning so much about things I didn't know about. It's crazy. I don't regret Nashville. Even though I was only there for five months, it was so, so crucial for what the Lord was preparing me for with coming back out here. So it was almost like a boot camp, kind of like a spiritual boot camp. I went out there, and then, of course, yes, I met Ashley, and, yeah, now we're here.
Ari
So that's crazy.
Ashley Hetherington
That's wild.
Ari
I just recently started plugging into a church the past couple of months and going to prayer sets. Like, a few prayer sets a week. Going to church, being around, like, I can't even tell you my spiritual growth in a month and a half. I am a different person than I was two months ago spiritually, and that's with, like, very little. Like, very little. And I was doing the same thing that you were for a long time, Ms. Prophetic, Independent. It's just me and Jesus.
Ashley Hetherington
But that's not biblical.
Ari
It's not biblical, and it's not helpful.
Ashley Hetherington
But it's so tempting to, like, stay.
Ali Yost
There, to make your faith like, your own thing.
Ashley Hetherington
You're like, but it's me and Jesus, and all I need is him. That's the thing, too. It's like, well, I can learn anything I need from Jesus, which is true. But, like, there is a part of us that was also made to edify and encourage and learn from each other as well. All through Jesus. It's all him, of course, but it's necessary.
Ari
He does everything through people. He partners with us. Everything is through people.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah.
Ari
So beautiful. Wow. All right.
Ashley Hetherington
That's our story.
Ari
And then we move on to.
Ali Yost
And then it ends there, and then.
Ari
It ends, and that's it.
Ali Yost
And then we did not have a house.
Ari
We do have a house now.
Ashley Hetherington
Yes.
Ali Yost
There's so much. Yeah.
Ari
And so you guys started a reality show.
Ashley Hetherington
I guess the Lord did it.
Ari
What is it called?
Ashley Hetherington
It's called Jesus Freaks.
Ari
Because there are a couple of Jesus freaks. I love it. Absolutely.
Ashley Hetherington
If that Story didn't say it enough. I think it's giving kind of freak.
Ari
How did you guys start it? What was the process?
Ali Yost
Okay, so it starts with Ash. Yeah. This is crazy. And this is on waiting. I feel like there's a lot of people who might be listening to this, and they're waiting. So take heart when you hear this story. So it was two years ago now, I think, and I was at this conference, and I've been doing, like, YouTube for a while, and I was kind of dabbling into, like, film, like, you know, creating, like, docu vibes in YouTube. Super, super elementary, like the lowest level of the lowest level. But I was just, like, dipping my toe. I met this conference, and this guy who's really big in film and production in the Christian world was like, talking about, you know, having Christian media in the world and in this culture. And it dawned on me that, you know, we have shows like the Chosen, and we have shows that are showing, like, biblical stories. House of David, great example. But we don't have a ton of media in TV that's showing how to live for Jesus right now, and especially as young people. So I'm like, okay, thinking about this. I'm like, this idea comes. I'm like, okay, God, is that from you? That's crazy. Then I look at where I'm at. How do I create a film? How do I create a production? Nothing comes. I think about how to come up with investors and stuff. And I'm doing this by myself. I don't even know this girl, and I'm doing this by myself, sketching business plans, all this stuff, and nothing's coming. And I'm like, okay, I'm just gonna. God gave me this vision. He gave me the vision so clear. And the vision has never changed. He gave me the vision right then and there. Two years ago, I put that. My dad was like, ok, like, just put this somewhere. Put this somewhere. And you're gonna take it out when you need it. Like, it'll come back when you need it. So I wrote it down in faith. I was like, all right, Lord, I'm just gonna keep living my life. Then I meet this crazy girl over here, and the first time we're hanging out together. So basically, the show that God gave me was a docu series or reality show that's showing young people living for Jesus in this day and age. So you're navigating your friendships, your calling, relationships, like, everything under the sun and showing that so that it's almost discipling a generation. I Was like, that's a great idea. Kept it down, whatever, meet her and then what do you say on our first time hanging out? First time?
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah, she came over to my house. I didn't have any furniture yet. Half of it was blow up furniture. I just moved to Nashville and yeah, we like ordered takeout or something. We're standing in my kitchen and she's Miss YouTube Queen. Like, vlogging, consistency, iconic. Just like, is so good at being consistent on YouTube. And so I've always had like this feeling of like, I want to document my life in real time. And I've tried vlogging and it's fun, but sometimes when I'm in it, I forget to pick up my camera and I'm like, oh, my God. I. I didn't even film half my day, you know? So I was expressing that, like, frustration as I was like, gosh, in this new year, which was 2024, I was like, I really want to get better with my YouTube. And I said, sometimes I just wish people could just follow me around with a camera and they would just document my life in real time. Almost like a Kardashian is what I said. Like the Kardashians, where they just have cameramen following them everywhere. I'm like, that's what I want because I can't be the one and doing all of it. And so Ashley's eyes, like, lit up and I'm like, what's going on over there? What is that? And then she shared with me.
Ali Yost
So then we go to her blow up couch.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah, we sit on the couch.
Ali Yost
It's from Walmart and gray blow up couch. And I go, just watch this. So I turn on The Hills Season 1, Episode 1. I don't recommend that you watch this, my Christian girly.
Ashley Hetherington
It's worldly, but super, super.
Ali Yost
But it's my favorite show.
Ashley Hetherington
I can't bra.
Ali Yost
I mean, it's a great show.
Ange
It's a lobot bottle the other day.
Ali Yost
It's actually so iconic, but not godly. Anyway, we're watching it and I'm like, imagine if this was for Jesus. Like, imagine if there was something like this showing real life but with Jesus. And so we start dreaming, planning all this stuff, freaking out, freaking out, freaking out. But we're in Nashville. So we start thinking about it in Nashville. We're like, okay, it's gonna be in Nashville. Like, who's all these people?
Ashley Hetherington
We're like getting the cast. We think it's gonna be like, friends, you know, where it's not. What is the Cast girl. All these people just brainstorming.
Ali Yost
Girls.
Ashley Hetherington
Anyway, it doesn't matter.
Ali Yost
It didn't happen. Here we are, and we're like, again, same thing that I had initially. I'm, like, trying to come up with stuff in my own strength. I'm trying to. Business plan. I'm trying to, like, just put it together. And, like, it's just. Nothing's happening. There's no grace. Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
Nothing was moving. We would even call. We called a couple of people, and we're like, hey, would you want to be a part of this? And they were like, yeah, I love this. And then just like, nothing.
Ange
I wish we could have been extras.
Ashley Hetherington
So we didn't know you yet.
Ari
We didn't know you one and two.
Ashley Hetherington
We were thinking, like, Nashville native. Like, we were like, well, not natives, but people who lived in Nashville. We don't know how much sense it makes to make a bunch of people fly in from. You know, of course.
Ali Yost
So then it just feels unnatural. And anyway, so then we just get to this point. We're like, all right, we're laying it down. We're laying it down. Same thing where we're going. Same with my dad. I was like, just put it down, put it down, put it down. So we put it down. We lived our life. We grew in our church community, and then we get a call to go on Gagaba podcast, and we are here, and we're like, as we're here, like, oh, my goodness.
Ashley Hetherington
We still have never been able to forget it, though. It's one of those things where it's like, sometimes you feel like you can get a download from the Lord and then you surrender it and never really comes back. And you're like, all right, maybe that wasn't from God, you know, but this was something where it was like, we had it surrendered, but it still was not leaving our minds. You know what I mean? It still felt like God wasn't done with that yet.
Ali Yost
I think that's how you know something is from God. A lot of people ask, like, how do you know if a promise is from God? How do you know if God has something for you and it's. If you surrender it and it never leaves your mind, it never leaves your heart.
Ashley Hetherington
It's right here.
Ali Yost
Like, that desire. God will give you the desires of your heart if you surrender your desires to the Lord, say, God, I want what you have for me. And that desire never leaves. That has to be from God. Out of his kindness, I believe he would take those desires out. Because we're surrendered. We're like, okay, God, I just want what you want. But he's just so kind. Doesn't let this desire leave us. So we're like, in California, or we're planning on moving now, and we're like, dang, it would be so great for this to be filmed. Like, what if this is the show?
Ashley Hetherington
Like, it starts in Nashville, but then we're documenting our move to LA is what we thought. Well, okay, so then we're planning, we're talking.
Ali Yost
There's a couple people we're even talking with. I put together a pitch deck, an entire pitch deck, and I'm, like, getting ready to pitch to people. Nothing. Yeah, nothing.
Ashley Hetherington
We did, actually, but, yeah, I mean, nothing would happen from this pitch.
Ali Yost
Nothing. So we end up going in that car, in that Jeep with the dog. Dang.
Ashley Hetherington
God, you're really missing an awesome opportunity, you know, like, this would be really inspiring to get us driving across the country, but, you know, it just. He has bigger plans. But it's so funny when we try.
Ali Yost
To tell God this.
Ashley Hetherington
You're really missing it. You're missing it, you're missing it. And he's like, can you just trust me? I'm missing nothing. Okay, Just go with it.
Ali Yost
Yeah. So we. We end up moving and, you know, the show is not happening. Nothing's happening, but it's in the back of our heads, as Ali said, the beach day. And then we wait. I think it's four months after living here. It's September. We're going through a lot of grief because this group that we were with left. They were leaving. We love them so much, and we loved them. And they were like, our first ministry partnering with here, and they were leaving to go to another state. Cause that's part of their ministry is they don't stay in one place. And we're grieving because we're like. We're so sad that they're leaving and Allie and I are fasting and we're praying, and we're like, what is next, Lord? Like, are we even?
Ashley Hetherington
I felt like we were back to square one. You know what I mean? Like, it almost was like, as we just moved to LA for the first time again, four months later, where it was like, clean slate, community's gone. You know, Jesus freaks still hadn't happened. We were like, God, why are we, like, what do you want us to do out here? You know, we were really discouraged. We were really, really discouraged. Yeah.
Ali Yost
And we just felt like we were at the end of, you know, our own plans. And we were like, we don't know what we're doing here. Are we even supposed to say, or should we go with this group to the next state? Are we even supposed to be in la? Just all these. This doubt was coming in and we started to fast and pray, and then we went to the beach. And we're literally on the beach. We're not even talking to each other. We're just listening to worship music.
Ashley Hetherington
We're just sulking. But we're like, God.
Ali Yost
Like God's forgotten us. Anyway. It was that moment, and then we're driving home and I look at Ali and I'm like, allie, God spoke to me.
Ashley Hetherington
I said, what did he say?
Ali Yost
What did he say whenever I say this? Because I'm not like that all the time. Like, I don't say that a lot. It's only when I know that it's the Lord. And I said, you know. Cause what's crazy, I forgot to mention this before we ended up. Before we left for la, we had our church pray for us, and they prophesied over us. And one of the girls was prophesying. She was like, this is so crazy. She's praying for us. She goes, but I see there's cameras and it's so crazy.
Ashley Hetherington
It's bigger than, like, social media. It's not like what you guys are doing right now.
Ali Yost
Like, you're being filmed. You're being filmed. And it's like ministry moments that you're being filmed for.
Ashley Hetherington
It's like, it's not a podcast. She is so funny because she's, like.
Ali Yost
Trying to figure it out.
Ashley Hetherington
She's like, what is this thing? And we know exactly what it is she's prophesying.
Ali Yost
She goes, and, you know, you're gonna record the miracles and it's gonna be like film and TV and God's gonna send you guys and all this stuff. And that's in May. Nothing happens. We're literally in September. But one of the things she said, she goes, and God's saying, it's gonna be like a mix of, like, nostalgia with high definition film. And God saying, my project with my girls.
Ashley Hetherington
Oh, my gosh, that makes me so sweet. Goosebumps.
Ali Yost
I write that down.
Ari
I got wigs.
Ali Yost
Keep it in the back on the beach. I'm praying, I'm saying, God, what do we do? What do we do? He says, my project with my girls. We don't need anyone.
Ashley Hetherington
It was kind of giving, like, my project with my girls. That's it. Just me and my girls.
Ange
He is so cute.
Ashley Hetherington
He's so cute. And I think the obstacle that we kept hitting, and I think that why we needed to hear that again was because we kept thinking, like, we needed a production house, that we needed someone else to tell us that it was worth investing in. We just. And those were never anything God told us. Those were assumptions, probably our own understanding that we were leaning on. But we thought that there was no movement because we were like, God, you haven't given us the resources. Like, obviously, we're waiting for someone else to say that this is worth investing in, you know? So that moment kind of clicked for us where we were like, wait, God could potentially be telling us to do this, just the two of us, with him. Cause we also thought we were like, it can't just be the two of us. Like, that's boring.
Ali Yost
I don't know.
Ashley Hetherington
I thought that I was, like, boring. Like, we need more people. It needs to be kind of like friends. But there's like five or six dynamic, you know? And God was like, my project with my girls.
Ali Yost
That's it.
Ashley Hetherington
And so in the car, I'm like, driving the car, and I'm like, well, I was like, that's really uncomfortable for me. Like, it's just gonna be the two of us. But, like, okay, God. And it was funny because he actually had already given us the resources. We had met so many incredible people since moving there. People who are so talented in film and photography. And Ashley had already had an editor. So we actually, literally had everything we already needed. We decided to invest ourselves. We're like, we can be the investors. That's fine. It might be a really, really, really small budget, but It's a budget. But it's a budget.
Ari
It's a budget.
Ashley Hetherington
You can't work with that.
Ali Yost
Yeah, we just worked with what we had. We worked with loaves and fishes. And, yeah, if you're waiting on the Lord, you just have to seek him and really. Just lay it down. Lay down your idea of how you want it to go. And you gotta just go to God and say, what is your idea? Do you want me to move or do you want me to stay? Do you want me to wait or do you want me to go? And just. We, like, just. We were fasting and praying when we got that word. It wasn't when we were, like, you know, strategizing. We were, like, letting go. We were. We were just surrendered.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah.
Ange
I love your friendship. I'm sorry. It's beautiful. And I love that you guys have each other and lift each other up. It's so beautiful. We need Each other. You guys have a really beautiful friendship.
Ashley Hetherington
You really do.
Ari
You're so special. I was actually gonna ask you guys. That's amazing. I. One of my favorite things about you guys is. And it's really inspiring and convicting. You guys don't do anything without God's permission. Like, and it's to a level that I've never seen before. Like, I'm not kidding. They don't do anything without consulting the Lord first.
Ashley Hetherington
She'll be like, God, what am I eating today?
Ali Yost
I'm like, what should I get? Matcha or ice cream? When I was in the hair salon.
Ari
I was like, God loves it. That's what he died for.
Ali Yost
He just said he would say that.
Ashley Hetherington
That's like, this sweet man came to fix our refrigerator the other day. And I was like, he fixed it, obviously. And I was like, oh, my gosh, Praise God. I was like, praise God. Like, the refrigerator's fixed. You know, like, it's been leaking for months. And if you're our landlord, you didn't hear that. But he was like, God had nothing to do with it. Like, it's. He just. He was like, it was an easy thing. Like, it was no big deal. Like, God didn't need to, like, waste his time with something this small, is what he was basically saying. He was like, yeah, God just has, like, much bigger things to do than to worry about a refrigerator, is basically what he was saying. And I think that that is a very common narrative of people where they think that, like, it would be an inconvenience to the Lord to be like, God, what am I gonna have for breakfast today? You know, like, the way that we live our life that way. I think a lot of people are afraid to do maybe, or they don't know that God genuinely cares about every tiny little thing. If you need help picking out a color top that day, he would gladly, gladly be like, wear blue, honey. I love you in blue.
Ali Yost
I'm sorry.
Ashley Hetherington
I'll cry. That's our God, and that is how much he cares. So anyway, don't be afraid to ask the Lord about every little thing and big thing in your life, because he literally wants to be a part of every part of your life. And nothing is too silly or too small or too big. Not even a refrigerator. Like, he cared. And yes, praise God, there are refrigerators. Yes.
Ari
Well, it also, like, it trains you to invite him into everything. Like, it trains you to consistently look for him, look to him. And it just. You know what I mean? So in the hard moments, because we Always talk about how in the hard moments is the, like, time you should pray the most. And it's probably the time it's hardest to pray. And so if you practice always looking for Jesus, always looking to Jesus in every moment, you're naturally just going to do it when you really need Him. So that's really helpful. Really inspiring. What do you guys. Cause you guys really do have such a special friendship. Like, it's insane.
Ashley Hetherington
Aw, thank you.
Ari
What do you guys do? Because you live together, you do ministry together, you're best friends, you do a lot together. What do you do to keep your friendship healthy? Just talk about it.
Ashley Hetherington
Oh, I love that question.
Ali Yost
I would say one of the things that we've recently learned how to do.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah, this is actually a good question, because I feel like this has been a new thing, newer thing that we've been navigating in our friendship.
Ari
Yeah.
Ali Yost
It's having clear communication. Like, if I'm feeling something or if I'm, like, sad about something or scared about something, I will just share it with her. Or even if I feel like she's mad at me, I will be like, are you mad at me? And it feels awkward and uncomfortable, but at the same time, it allows space for us to share. And confrontation is huge. Man. Confessing to one another, I just think clear communication, and I think confessing is actually a different thing.
Ange
Yeah.
Ali Yost
Confessing is.
Ari
Confessing in what way?
Ali Yost
I would say, like, when I just have feelings. Well, yeah, that. But just when I know I have, like, a sin struggle and I need to repent and confess, like, that is so powerful. Like, every time I do that with Al, it's like, she knows how to, you know, call me higher. And that strengthens our friendship so much. Like, I think that's a way to strengthen Christian friendship, is to confess and pray. Like it says in James. Like, pray for one another and confess your sins, and then you'll be healed. So we need to do that in.
Ashley Hetherington
Our friendships is really important. Yeah. Because also, I think when you do so much life together, there is opportunity for, like, misunderstanding of things that are unsaid and then things that could be going through each other's heads. That is not happening in the natural at all. There are times where Ashley, like, won't want to say anything to me out of, like, her flesh rightfully. Like, it's really. Like, she's like, I don't want to hurt you. But then with the silence, there have been times where I've been like, but I'd rather you just. Just literally I don't care how ugly it is, but just tell me. Because then I'm sitting here not knowing. So I'm just backing up. Like, communication has been the biggest thing for us, no matter how ugly it may sound. Like it's better to just be like, let it just be all out here on the table than for us to just feel like we have to silently or separately navigate those things with the Lord. That is important. But also being like, hey, this is what's going on in my head right now. I just want you to know this is what's happening in my head. Or I don't really know what to say right now. So me being quiet doesn't mean that I'm mad at you. Doesn't mean that I don't love you anymore. So, yeah, we've had to navigate those things and boundaries and all those things because, yeah, it's. And, yeah, I don't know why it's been more of a recent thing, but I think it's just because we've been. We've never lived together. And now I feel like maybe once we hit, like, this point, it's like, I don't know, you just get so comfortable with each other that it's like those things are necessary.
Ange
What kind of boundaries do you guys hold for each other with each other? Oh, if you guys are more comfortable saying it.
Ali Yost
Well, Allie's more fresh on the boundaries. I actually don't know what boundaries I have with Allie.
Ashley Hetherington
Honestly.
Ali Yost
Like, I'm, like, different in my life.
Ange
It's fine.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah. Cause sometimes Ashley's like, wait, you don't want to have dinner with me? And I'm like, no, I do want to have dinner with you, but I feel the Lord telling me that sometimes I need to make my own dinner because we'll eat dinner. Like, she's always.
Ali Yost
And I'm like, this is my own dinner.
Ashley Hetherington
And it's amazing. Like, it's such a luxury. If it was my choice, I'd keep doing it. But God was like, hey, so you're a big girl, and she's been doing this for a year. You need to start making your own dinners now, too. So, like, silly little. But they're important. Cause it's like, otherwise I'm just, like, dependent on her in that way. I'm not saying I'll never let her.
Ali Yost
Cook for me, ever.
Ari
You actually are a good cook.
Ashley Hetherington
And it's the way she loves, too.
Ali Yost
No, I love that you're growing in this because you gonna have a husband someday.
Ashley Hetherington
I need to know how to cook.
Ali Yost
And if I was dependent on Ashley.
Ashley Hetherington
Hetherington my whole life, we could call.
Ari
Ashley to come over.
Ashley Hetherington
So the family needs to be fed. And I never learned.
Ali Yost
Yeah. And I think something that's helped with, I guess, boundaries or just our relationship in general is like, I just have to challenge myself to go, what is the best thing for Ally? Like, what is the best thing for her? What does God want for her? How can I love and serve her? And I feel like whenever I'm the most like, unhealthy version of myself with Al, it's because I am only thinking about myself. I'm only. It's like I'm just thinking, how is this gonna affect Ash? And God has to challenge me to go, no. How can you love your sister if she's gonna thrive cooking by herself? That is it.
Ashley Hetherington
I wouldn't say I'm thriving yet, but.
Ali Yost
But you know, it's like that God said, this is good for her. I said, you know what? You're right, God. So just gotta go to the Lord and go, what is best for my sister? That's what I want. Like, even if we weren't supposed to live together forever, which would be so sad, but eventually we're gonna have sad families, you know what I'm saying? Like, that day will come. Be like, you know what? That's the best thing. And just looking out for the good of one another.
Ari
So good. So beautiful.
Ange
You guys, speaking of, you know we're gonna have family someday.
Ashley Hetherington
Sure. Take it there, girl.
Ange

Because if you guys came on a year ago, we talked about dating last time, right?
Ali Yost
Oh, we did, we did.
Ari
We talked about dating. How has. God knows what we said last year. We changed a lot. Okay, so what, compare your. Or you don't have to compare yourselves, but like now versus last year, what's changed? What has this last year been like, how's it going? We always say, you're not gonna find a man in la. So you guys came to the perfect place.
Ali Yost
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
No, it's really lived up to its title there.
Ali Yost
That's why I was kicking and screaming coming here, because I'm like, Lord, one of the biggest desires, if not biggest desire of my life, of my heart, is to be a wife. And I'm moving to a city where there's a lot of men that don't want to get married. So that was scary for me. But I'll just be so transparent, honest. There has been a very much of a drought in this city. It's. Well, I guess, I don't know, it's God's timing, right? But it's okay.
Ange
You can say it.
Ali Yost
I'm saying it, too. I know. I'm like. And I just. I want to be real with the girls here. Like, there was a situation where I literally, like, thought something was happening and it wasn't happening. And it was really, really hard. Yeah. I think after that, it just fell and I didn't see it coming, and I was like, oh. And that really hurt my confidence. And it hurt. Basically. Yeah. A guy was not interested in me that I was interested in. And. And when that happens to you, it can really hurt your confidence. It can make you doubt if God has someone for you. And it's really hard. And it's hard to get back up when you have a door shut in your face. And I don't think we talk about this enough as women of God. How to deal with that.
Ari
Totally. Thank you for saying that.
Ange
No, please, can you talk about it? Yeah, So I need it.
Ali Yost
Oh, my goodness. So I just was really sad because I had thought that God was doing something, and I felt completely delulu. Completely delulu. And almost, like, sad that I had, like, believed that something was happening when it really wasn't.
Ari
Yeah, I mean, yeah. Can I. Nevermind.
Ali Yost
No, you can say something.
Ari
Are you Delulu? If you're being made to feel that way, can we. Before we continue, can we just talk about something really quick?
Ali Yost
Yeah.
Ari
Because I think this is really important because I know Ari and I have experienced this coming into the Christian space and meeting men who say they love Jesus, who probably do love Jesus, who call themselves a Christian. And I think coming from the world, like, in the world I've. We grew up, like, you protect yourself. It's a man's world. Like you. You're on guard and you always protect yourself. And then I remember coming into the Christian world, I'm like, it's safe. Everybody loves Jesus. It's all safe.
Ali Yost
Every guy is safe.
Ari
Every guy is safe. The Christian men, honestly relate relationships in.
Ashley Hetherington
General, even like friendships or pastors or whatever.
Ali Yost
You just assume everyone is pastors, mentors, everyone.
Ari
So. And we've met guys who were like, you're a man of God. Such a man of God. And then they end up not being.
Ashley Hetherington
The fruit is not aligned.
Ari
So not aligned. Do you want to speak on that at all?
Ange
No.
Ari
Okay.
Ali Yost
I mean, it's hard because you could. You go to church and you're like, okay, every guy is a. Every guy is like a great guy. And what it taught me was to. I mean, it's nothing on. It's really just to look at the fruit and to look at what's actually happening and to get out of your head. I was so in my head and I was imagining things that weren't actually happening. And I was. And I was. That was on me. So I'm gonna take accountability for that. And I had to really learn that the hard way to, like, if a guy is not asking you out, oh, he's not gonna ask you out.
Ashley Hetherington
That's it.
Ali Yost
Like, if you have been with him and you're hanging out with him and he's your friend or whatever, and you're waiting for him to ask you out, and he has not asked you out, you need to move on because God has someone for you who is going to pursue you. And if a guy is not pursuing you, no matter. No matter how much he is showing you that he likes you, but he's not actually pursuing you, asking you on a date and like, paying for your food. Yes, actually, then it's not your me.
Ashley Hetherington
Then he's a friend.
Ali Yost
So that's what God had to tell me. That's exactly what he always said in J. Freaks. She said. She said, oh, if. What did you say? It Was such a good line. You said so many lines. Yeah. In the park. Oh, well.
Ari
Oh, I know it. Oh, what did I say? You're never gonna be the second option.
Ashley Hetherington
To every other man until you're the first option to your husband.
Ari
Why'd I know that?
Ashley Hetherington
That was the holy. I literally was out of body when I said that. I said, where did that come from?
Ali Yost
And then she said something where it was like. Like, you know, if you're not asking me out, I'm just gonna say, okay. I thought I was just a friend. Facts, girls, period. Do not let your mind go there.
Ashley Hetherington
Like, just don't even think about it. Please don't do that. It's coming from experience. Stop. It hurts.
Ali Yost
I would tell Ashley from a year ago, stop. Get out of your head. Like, look at the facts. The right guy will pursue you, so just move on.
Ari
So good.
Ange
So good.
Ari
We talk about this all the time. We talk about it all the time. And especially this day and age, guys, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful men, they just lack confidence sometimes, and so they want to play it safe. And nobody. They don't want to get rejected and they don't want to get their egos hurt. So they never actually put themselves out there. But that's what men were made to do, is put themselves out there, regardless of what the response is like.
Ali Yost
Yeah.
Ari
And so we.
Ashley Hetherington
It's so funny. It's such an attack on a man's, like, on the. On the literal way that the Lord has made man.
Ari
Right.
Ashley Hetherington
And because of that, it then even spills over and hurts women.
Ange
Yeah.
Ali Yost
You know, because then women are getting asked out.
Ashley Hetherington
It's.
Ali Yost
Guys are too scared.
Ashley Hetherington
It's nothing against these men. It's just like. It's just so clear that the enemy is here to discourage everybody 100%.
Ali Yost
So that was my dating experience. It was actually. I haven't dated anyone here, so.
Ange
Well, anyone would be so blessed to have you. And I can't wait to have a front row seat to see who I. I was blessed enough to have you.
Ari
I can't wait to be a bridesmaid.
Ashley Hetherington
You are a bridesmaid.
Ali Yost
Guys, thank you for listening to that too, because that was just.
Ashley Hetherington
That was vulnerable.
Ali Yost
The hardest. One of the hardest things I had gone through in the last year here.
Ari
Well, because when you put your. I mean, we know this. It's what Jesus teaches. Do not put your identity in anybody or anything else. Do not put your value, your self worth in anything. But, like, relationally, that's how we get hurt in life, is that people make Us feel unwanted. They make us feel rejected. When really you have been anybody else and it would have been the same. Like, it just has nothing to do with you. It has nothing to do with you. It really doesn't. Your value is not tied to what somebody else thinks about you.
Ange
Yeah.
Ari
And so. But that's so helpful to hear. And we all go through it.
Ange
We all went through it.
Ari
Through it.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah.
Ali Yost
And like, how do you get up after you've been rejected? You know, like, after someone, like, literally, especially in relationship, says, I don't. Don't want you, how do you get up from that? Because, I mean, there's probably girls listening to this who are, like, dealing with that.
Ari
I feel like it's a matter of faith. Like, it. For me, I feel like it comes down to faith. Either I can believe that this is not the way that my life was supposed to go, this is not what the Lord had planned for me, or I cannot believe that.
Ali Yost
Yeah.
Ari
And I know if somebody walks out of my life, or if somebody doesn't want me, that's obviously not my husband. If I'm meant to be with someone, they're gonna love me and pursue me. Correctly. And so it's just about faith. Either you believe what Jesus says, that he has a purpose and a plan for your life, or you don't. You know, it's like a matter of faith.
Ange
Yeah. And I mean, no matter what, like, when pure love is met with rejection, I don't wish that pain on my worst enemy. It's literally the worst pain in the world. But when I look at my life, because I've gotten hurt many times over men, because that's where I always put my identity. And then when I went through the worst heartbreak of my life, I saw that through the pain that what God did through my life, I'm like, thank you, Jesus. So I know now that when he takes something away, it hurts. It's painful. You're gonna grieve, you're gonna hurt. But, boy, what he has for you on the other side of that, I'm like, I can't even believe what he did. Through my heartbreak, I would have never been here.
Ari
You would have never known him.
Ange
I would have never known him. So it's like, through that pain, he's doing something. But I know it's so hard to understand that pain, that rejection, it hurts.
Ari
Yeah. And it's also like, not to, because you never want to put too many spiritual bows on top of things.
Ange
Sure.
Ari
I feel like sometimes it's. It's really Helpful to know that people hurt people. Like that's what happens throughout life. That's why we have Jesus. That's why Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to be our comforter, because he knew that we were going to get hurt by each other. And it's always going to happen. And you just have to allow the Lord to meet you in your pain, meet you in your rejection. You read the Word, you let everything that he says about you wash over you. And you just have to understand that it happens to everybody.
Ange
And most of the time it has nothing to do with you. Nothing. End up repeating the patterns. I love that you say that. Hurt people, hurt people. It's so true.
Ari
And Jesus was rejected. Jesus was despised. Jesus was abandoned, betrayed. I know now more than ever with things that I've gone through. Like, oh, all the times if you pray the prayer, make me like you. Jesus, buckle up. Because he takes you through things to make you like him. And he went through, even in his suffering.
Ashley Hetherington
Suffering. Yeah.
Ari
He went through the hardest things. And he was deeply rejected. He's still thrown away.
Ange
Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
He's still told that he's not enough.
Ari
Right.
Ashley Hetherington
For people.
Ange
Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
So.
Ari
Oh, good point.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah. When people don't choose him, they're like, you're not enough. That's not enough for me. I need this. Instead, people reject him today and say, you're not enough. Jesus doesn't take that personally. If anything, he like loves them, you know, even in that.
Ange
Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
So I think also like.
Ange
Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
Just remembering that to not get bitter about these things and to remember that we're also called to love people.
Ari
Totally. Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
Even when they hurt us.
Ari
Yeah. You guys have taught me a lot because when they were first telling me that story, I start going like, what's like what?
Ange
Like, very protective.
Ari
And they go, we bless them. I was like, yep, that's pretty good. We bless them. Never mind. Scratch.
Ali Yost
It's not even worth it.
Ari
That's what I said.
Ali Yost
No, that's even people who do reject you or friends that reject you, or people close doors. Like, you bless them. You bless them because it's God's will ultimately.
Ari
Yeah.
Ange
Do we have types? Do we? Are we.
Ari
You're dating.
Ange
Experience.
Ashley Hetherington
No, I'm not.
Ange
I'm not dating.
Ashley Hetherington
I went on one date.
Ari
Uh huh.
Ashley Hetherington
Okay.
Ali Yost
And he wasn't even from la. No.
Ashley Hetherington
He flew in from Ohio.
Ari
That's what John did.
Ali Yost
Right.
Ashley Hetherington
So like, here's the thing that's special. This is the mindset the Lord gave me through that. Well, I will say that that date did Bless me. And I bless him like truly, truly, truly didn't work out. That's okay. But what the Lord really showed me in that well one, I had never been treated so well, so I think the Lord just wanted me to be like, hey, so this is the standard. I know you've believed in it, but. But this, it exists.
Ari
That was your first date after following Jesus, right?
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah, yeah. I haven't been taken on a date, nevermind a long time. So anyway, first one in a long time and first Jesus loving man. So anyway, but what God showed me, showed me a lot of things, but above all else is he said, I will make a way, girl. I will make a way. Your story's exactly the same way. But it's like, we talk about how awful it is here in LA and we can poop all over the dating out here, whatever. But like, God can make it happen any way he wants to. He can fly the man from across the country. And I also was like, dang, I didn't think a man would ever, like, I didn't know that that was an option.
Ali Yost
I didn't know that that was a thing.
Ashley Hetherington
I didn't know any man would want to do that for me. So I just, I felt so I was like, God, you're right. You can do whatever you want, you know? So I think it's a matter of. Yeah, just trusting that the Lord can make it happen even if they don't physically live here. Like, you never know what the Lord could have planned.
Ange
So have you guys been struggling, like being single or has. Has it been easy or has it been like a little bit of a struggle? Because you have been single for how long?
Ashley Hetherington
Oh, like maybe three years.
Ange
Three years. And you've been single for.
Ali Yost
I was single for six years. Wow. A long time. And I was in relationships like from 16 to 21.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah, like, oh. I also was like.
Ali Yost
Jump, you know, I got dating, I would jump ship. I'd be like, all right, this one's about to end. I'm gonna get so bad. So bad. So then being. But ever since being like, heartache, don't.
Ashley Hetherington
Know it, onto the next one.
Ali Yost
Right?
Ari
That is so good.
Ali Yost
No, I wouldn't really grieve, which is crazy. But ever since being all in for the Lord, I haven't had a serious relationship. I've like, dated, like, I've gone on dates, but I haven't like dated like a man of God where we're like serious. And it's weird, but there are some nights that I'm like, God, what are you doing? But I feel like it's just at the altar, I just. You get to a point where you're trying to strategize enough, and you're like, I just have to put this at the altar, and if it comes back, it's for me. And if it doesn't ever come back, like, that wasn't for me.
Ange
Yeah.
Ali Yost
It's hard to get to that place.
Ange
It is. It really is.
Ari
It's a battle every day. Right. It's like, one day you feel good about it, the next day you might not.
Ashley Hetherington
It's true.
Ari
Yeah. And you love being single.
Ashley Hetherington
I kind of like it. No, I don't. I actually really would love to meet my husband. But what I will say is that for me, I think it's more of like. Like, when I kind of get, like, sad girl about it, it's like I almost miss someone that I haven't met yet. Like, it's almost like I can, like, feel that he exists in the spirit. I don't know if that sounds. But, like, I do. Like, I know he's real. I can feel him. And I pray for him all the time, and I. I know that he's praying for me. So it's more of like a. A longing, like an aching. Like, I'm like. I know. Like, I miss him, even though I don't know him.
Ari
No, I know.
Ashley Hetherington
So it's like times like that where it's not so much where I'm like, God, do you even have a man? It's actually like, I know he's out there, but I'm like, where? Like, dang, God, that's crazy.
Ari
Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
When are you gonna introduce us?
Ali Yost
So.
Ashley Hetherington
But, yeah, I mean, I think it's. Yeah, it's a roller coaster, like you said. Some days you're like, ah, I'm fine. And then other days you're like, oh, wow, I really wish I had my man.
Ari
Something that I just thought about because I feel we talk about this all the time where we're like. Because people are like, God's not gonna send you, your person until you're, like, content with being alone.
Ashley Hetherington
Like, it's a test.
Ari
And. Yeah.
Ali Yost
And, like, you have to earn it. Like, you're earning your man by being good enough.
Ashley Hetherington
You're like, okay, I'm content now, so you can give me my reward.
Ali Yost
It's not how God loves. It isn't.
Ari
No. 100%, it's not. And I. And I think when people say, like, you have to be content on your own before you could be content in a relationship. I look at you guys honestly, and I'm like, okay, so this is what it means. It doesn't mean that the desire for a relationship is gone. It doesn't mean that you aren't sad sometimes or that your heart is longing. It just means that you have the right perspective on dating and marriage, that you know that this person won't fulfill you. This person won't fix your problems. This person won't give you confidence. And you're not looking, longing for someone to come feed something inside of you, fill you. Yeah. You're longing for your life partner to come into covenant. So that's what it's about. It's about the right perspective. That's what real contentment is. Not that one day you wake up and you're like, don't care anymore. I don't want to marry or I.
Ali Yost
Don'T even want to be married. Something that I found, to be completely honest, that I can bring here. It is so hard to continue believing that he exists when it's been so long and when there's been shut doors.
Ari
Oh, my gosh. She just got goosebumps again.
Ali Yost
That is hard. And we know that with Abraham and Sarah, it was years. They were praying and waiting for a child, and it wasn't happening. I don't know how Abraham and Sarah kept believing. Sarah actually stopped believing, you know? And so how do we keep believing in something that hasn't left our heart? That's one of the hardest things I think we'll learn to do as believers.
Ari
Oh. 100% know. Wow.
Ange
Tough.
Ari
It is.
Ange
It's something I'm going through right now too, you know, keep believing. And it's just hard. It's hard as us women when we have that desire to be moms, to be wives. It is. It's like one day you're good, the next day you're like, okay. Hello.
Ali Yost
Hello.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah.
Ali Yost
Yeah.
Ange
So, yeah, it's something I'm walking through right now. It's sometimes even hard for me to answer to people because I'm like, I don't know. I'm walking through it right now. I'll let you know.
Ari
Yeah.
Ange
But. Yeah, right. Like, sometimes you don't even know.
Ashley Hetherington
You're like, I'll let you know when I get there.
Ari
What a good answer.
Ali Yost
I'm actually in this boat with you.
Ashley Hetherington
So, so true.
Ari
Just more than enough people just want to know that they're not alone.
Ali Yost
Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
That's really what it is.
Ari
Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah.
Ali Yost
I actually think the Lord can speak on this. I think sometimes when we don't, when we need faith, we need to ask the Lord to remind us of the promise. And just ask him and say, God, you sure this is coming? And just like, bring it to him and then see what he says, like seeking him and saying, God, I need you to remind me of your promise. Because in scripture he would do that all the time. He would remind people of the promise of what he was gonna do. So if we're not in tune with the Promise Keeper, then we're gonna lose faith.
Ange
Yeah. I think one thing I'm really proud of us all is that we're not settling. We're not settling. And that's. I mean, obviously we could date people, but we're all just trusting God and we're not settling. And I think so many of us settle. They settle because they don't want to be alone. So this is. I don't know who this is for, but don't settle because you're in the season of just feeling so lonely where you're like, okay, maybe I'll call him up, you know, because you do not want to end up with a counterfeit.
Ashley Hetherington
That's.
Ange
Yeah, that will be harder than being alone.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah. And I think that's typically just always rooted in fear, which is real. It's a real fear. You know, sometimes these men could have all of that. And you're like, okay, he does love Jesus with all of his heart, mind and soul. And, you know, he speaks really highly of his mother and he treats the waitress really great. And he opens every door for me and he's really great. So, like, why does it still feel like maybe it's not?
Ali Yost
And I think.
Ashley Hetherington
I think what I want to touch on is that I do believe that the Lord gives all of us, like, intuition or like.
Ali Yost
Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
Discernment. Gut feelings, like, however you want to label it. But I do believe too, that if you feel it's a little off, even though he could literally be Prince Charming, he could be perfect on the outside. Because I think that's also a very possible thing. If there is a little part of your tummy or your heart or your mind that's like, that's how I think you would know, too. Cause you're not gonna feel that way about your God given partner. Like, sent by God, so good. Ain't no way a sliver of yourself. I'm not saying that you can't be fearful. Like, I think sometimes maybe I'm talking. I don't know. I've never experienced it but maybe it could be kind of scary where you're like, dang, this is, like, this actually is feeling like the real deal. Like, I don't know, maybe that's what.
Ali Yost
I expected, but I like it.
Ashley Hetherington
Why am I, like, you know, really into this? Yeah. There's a difference between that and, like, gut feeling of like, something is off.
Ari
Yeah. And I do think you need to, like, I've met so many people now, beautiful Christian couples, where in the beginning, one person was like, absolutely not, would never. And now they're married for 10, 15 years, have children, and are crazy.
Ashley Hetherington
What do you mean?
Ari
Like, when they're dating and like, the girl's like, I would never date someone like him. And then he keeps pursuing, and then he finally gets her, and then she's, like, madly in love. Like, I know multiple stories of this. So I just think you, like, oh.
Ashley Hetherington
God, can do it.
Ari
It's discernment. Yeah. And I just. It's hard because you don't want to over spiritualize things either.
Ashley Hetherington
Totally.
Ari
Yeah.
Ange
No, because I have met people, too. I met this beautiful couple at the show, and she was like, I met him, and he had just found Jesus and, like, he wasn't deep in his faith. And now, like, we're on this beautiful journey together. So God can do it, and that can happen too. For sure. It's hard. Like, obviously, yes, we want amazing men of God that can lead us, but there are also situations where, like, someone comes from a brokenness, and then they find Jesus and you meet them and you, like, chase them together. So you just need a really good guy who loves Jesus. Even if maybe he's a new believer. I don't know.
Ari
As long as he's running in the direction. That's what it's about. It's okay if you cry about it.
Ashley Hetherington
And you've got peace, like.
Ange
Yeah, that's what I mean. Yeah.
Ali Yost
But you do want to make. Make sure he's leading you and also, like, leading you in purity, too. I feel like sometimes really new guy believers can be like, a little on the fence with the purity thing. And you just want to make sure that we're not doing that, you know? And I speak that from experience.
Ari
Absolutely. Yeah. You have to. You have to. As long as he's running after Jesus. We all know that that's the. The basis of everything. But it's funny because with John, for example, like, I think I was always so used to. Because every one of my relationships have always been worldly and they've always been lustful and Never walking in. True, true purity. And so when I met John, I wasn't, like.
Ashley Hetherington
We weren't like, love at first sight, like, freaking out.
Ari
We were not freaking out. Like, it was calm, it was sweet. He wasn't, like, too much. I wasn't too much. It honestly felt like kind of two friends meeting, like, for the first time. It wasn't anything too much. And so in the past, I would have been like, oh, it's not. Like. It's not right.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah.
Ari
But then we kept hanging out. We went on more dates, and then, like, the love grew over time and so. But I didn't, like, psych myself out. I feel like I see a lot of people who kind of psych themselves out sometimes where, like, they. They think a little bit too much.
Ashley Hetherington
I probably could do that.
Ali Yost
I probably do that.
Ari
You have to give people a shot as well. Do you agree? You know, because.
Ange
Yes, because. And I think you and I talked about this where, like, the butterflies, like, that's what we used to think was love. But it's peace.
Ari
It's so much peace.
Ashley Hetherington
Peace and butterflies kind of like give anxiety for me.
Ali Yost
It's peace. Like, peace.
Ari
Totally.
Ali Yost
Because you ultimately had peace.
Ashley Hetherington
Oh.
Ali Yost
So going on these dates and meeting. Meeting this sweet man.
Ari
So you guys love John.
Ashley Hetherington
I know that I love John. I'm seeing him in a couple days.
Ari
Such a good kid.
Ali Yost
He's so sweet. But you had peace. And so it's like, okay, if you're going on dates with guys, I feel like I don't have the space to give this advice because it's been a while. But if you are going on dates with guys and. Or going on a date with a guy and you don't have peace, you gotta trust that. If you're praying and you don't have peace, gotta trust that. But if you. If he's not even your type, but you somehow have a peace, keep going. Give it a chance.
Ari
Aw, that's. Break ideals. Break any ideals that you might have.
Ali Yost
Sometimes God wants to surprise you.
Ange
You know what's a counterfeit, too? The love bombing.
Ari
Oh, for sure.
Ange
Okay. All right. We gotta pinpoint that.
Ari
Because God said that you're my wife and we're gonna get married, literally, to tomorrow.
Ange
I get.
Ali Yost
I get a lot of those.
Ashley Hetherington
Oh, man.
Ari
Stop coming up to my friends.
Ashley Hetherington
Stop coming up to my friend.
Ari
It's too much. I mean, I never. Why are you. Why are you struggling? I've never seen more proposals in my life. She gets proposed to every day. Yeah. You guys love spending time in the Secret place. We talk about the secret place a lot. Love the secret place.
Ashley Hetherington
Best place to be.
Ari
Who die for the secret place. Can you talk to us, both of you, about your secret place, your intimacy with Jesus, what your quiet time, what your spiritual life looks like, how you seek his face?
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah, well, that's like the most intimate area of my life, obviously, but whatever.
Ari
You're comfortable.
Ashley Hetherington
I just weep. I just. Yeah, I just cry a lot. And I'm just. I'm so grateful every time I get in his presence. And yeah, a lot of it is just me just, like, telling him how grateful I am for him. And it's listening to music, like worship music every time, early in the morning. I don't know why, I mean, it's biblical, but it's like you get up in the early morning and there's something about spending time with Jesus, like before 8:00am you know, like, even this morning, it's hard for me to do that. But when I do, it's like the best secret place time, you know? But, yeah, it's intimate and it's.
Ange
Yeah, I started doing it five girls. I haven't in this past couple weeks. But it's changed before the sun is up.
Ashley Hetherington
It's giving real proverbs.
Ari
Your eyes would change, like, literally everything. Your countenance, everything.
Ange
Distractions.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah, it's true. Everything is so quiet still.
Ange
He's like, no one's in their cars yet.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah, it's beautiful.
Ali Yost
And the more time you spend with God, the more you look like him.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah.
Ali Yost
You start to actually radiate that Jesus glow.
Ashley Hetherington
When you get a place like that.
Ange
It'S like you have to talk about the Jesus.
Ashley Hetherington
It's like an aroma.
Ange
Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
On you, like. And people, before you even open your mouth, they, like, can smell it on. They, like, see it on you. And they're like, what is that? Like, I walked into Staples the other day. Was it. Or was it Office Depot? She's like, every time you. I haven't even opened my mouth yet. I was in the secret place right before. But she's like, every time you come in here, like, your energy is this older woman. She's like 72 maybe. And I was like, it's Jesus. And she's like, oh, well, you know, we all gotta have our thing that keeps us. And I'm like, right, he is the thing. But anyway, I don't know what I'm saying right now. But, yeah, it's just praising him. And I really love to just receive encouragement from him because a lot of times he's reminded me, I am so eager to praise him, that sometimes he's like, hey, so I need to fill you. Like, I love this, but it's a two way street, you know, so there have been times where Jesus has been like, I love this and I love your heart, and I know you want to tell me how great I am. I'll receive it anytime, but I. I need to pour into you. And so I've actually gotten a lot better about getting into that stillness and being like, okay, Lord, what do you want me to know today? What do you wanna tell me about me? Do you wanna tell me that I'm great? Like, I don't know. I just, I need to hear that from my dad. I need to hear that he's proud of me. I need to hear just encouragement from him and that. Yeah. That I'm just in his will, like, so. Yeah. Anyway, that's what it looks like.
Ange
Gosh, that's beautiful.
Ashley Hetherington
Yeah.
Ari
I also need encouragement from my dad.
Ali Yost
And that is I doing wrong today, Kelly.
Ari
No, I'm literally like, listen, I'm sorry.
Ashley Hetherington
I'm sorry.
Ali Yost
Sometimes I need to work on repent.
Ashley Hetherington
I'm like, God, I know I'm. I'm a flawed human. And he's like, actually, I want to tell you how great you are. And I'm like, what?
Ali Yost
He wants to encourage us.
Ashley Hetherington
He does. He wants to tell you how great you are.
Ari
And what a beautiful thing to say, Lord, I need encouragement. Would you just encourage me? I'm putting that one right now.
Ange
I'll be 5am to my new.
Ashley Hetherington
First thing you do, girl, do it. And you're gonna weep. You'll be like, you think that of me? It's crazy. Since I've opened my heart, I know we have to stop. I'm like, you think that of me? Like, I've never just slowed down to ask him that, you know, and it's like, we get all this praise online and it's great, but it's like, I wanna know what my dad thinks of me, you know? So do that tomorrow. I love you.
Ari
You're so special.
Ashley Hetherington
Thank you.
Ange
You guys are giving me chill bumps the whole episode.
Ali Yost
Well, something God has been teaching me is you can bring this secret place with you every day, day, wherever you go. I used to think I only had the secret place in the morning, but I'm learning you can bring the secret place when you listen to worship music, when you're working and when you're driving. You can bring the secret place with you when you're at the coffee shop, and you don't know if you should get matcha or coffee. And you just, like, pray. And you're just, like, praying. You're bringing the Lord into every situation, every encounter, every relationship, everything. Like, the secret place is with you. He tore the veil. He's with us all the time. Like, he's here. He's right around us. So the secret place is always with us. And that's something I'm learning is, like, this word. Can I, like, sleep with it? But I also can, like, take it with me everywhere I go.
Ari
Yeah, I love that he tore the veil. You can step into the holy of holies anymore, anytime you want. You are. You bring that matcha and coffee into the holy of holies and you ask him.
Ange
By the way, I love that video that you posted before and after your Jesus call. I was like, that is. You posted that.
Ali Yost
Yeah, right.
Ari
Recently.
Ali Yost
The other day. Yeah.
Ashley Hetherington
She was. Ashley was partying and drinking alcohol.
Ali Yost
And no one knows that about. No one thinks. Everyone thinks I'm, like, this perfect Christian girl in this perfect Christian household. Like, I did not, like, follow Jesus for most of my life. So.
Ari
Wow.
Ashley Hetherington
But you'd never know.
Ali Yost
You would.
Ashley Hetherington
Looking at her. You never know.
Ari
Glory to God.
Ange
But I do know because of you just have this. You know that you've been through so much. You can tell that you've. You've gone through so much brokenness. And, like, that's why you relate to so many people. And that's why, although it's so beautiful to come from a Christian home, it's also beautiful when you've messed up so many times and then you find Jesus. Because look at how many people you're helping through your brokenness. It's like. It's so beautiful fall, so you're welcome.
Ari
I love you guys so much. We love you. Love you.
Ashley Hetherington
Thanks for wanting us back.
Ari

Podcast Information:
[01:00] The episode opens with Arielle ("Ari") and Angela ("Ange") warmly welcoming their special guests, Ally Yost and Ashley Hetherington, marking their second appearance on the show exactly one year after their first appearance.
Ari: "You guys, Allie and Ashley are two of probably the greatest people I've personally ever met... the Lord really is using you in such a beautiful way."
[03:18] Both guests express their gratitude and humility, reinforcing the strong bond and mutual respect among the participants.
[04:56] The conversation delves into Ally and Ashley’s transformative journey relocating from Nashville to Los Angeles. Initially hesitant, their move was driven by a call to expand their ministry and leverage new opportunities.
Ashley: "We flew out here. I had just moved to Nashville from LA, and then you guys reached out...time has just flown."
[05:10] They recount how their time in Nashville served as a "spiritual boot camp," fostering significant personal and spiritual growth through deep community engagement and authentic relationships.
Ali Yost: "We were meeting all these incredible people, which I didn't know existed... Souls are being saved in the most unlikely places."
[16:03] A pivotal moment in the episode discusses the inception of their reality show, "Jesus Freaks."
Ali Yost: "I was at a conference, and God gave me this vision for a docu-series showing young people living for Jesus in today’s world."
Ashley: "I expressed my desire to document my life in real-time, similar to how the Kardashians do, which sparked the idea for the show."
[25:02] Despite initial setbacks and challenges in securing resources, their unwavering faith led them to invest in their vision with limited means, reflecting a reliance on divine provision.
Ali Yost: "We decided to invest ourselves... it might be a really small budget, but it's a budget."
[36:04] The hosts and guests emphasize the importance of clear communication and healthy boundaries in maintaining strong, supportive friendships within ministry contexts.
Ali Yost: "Clear communication is crucial. If I'm feeling something, I share it with Ashley, even if it feels awkward."
Ashley Hetherington: "We prefer to lay everything on the table rather than navigate silently. It’s essential for our growth."
[33:17] They discuss the role of community in fostering spiritual growth, highlighting how their experiences in Nashville prepared them for their current endeavors in Los Angeles.
[49:55] Transitioning to personal topics, Ari encourages Ally and Ashley to reflect on their experiences since their last discussion about dating.
Ari: "We talked about dating last time. How has this last year been for you guys?"
Ali Yost: "One of the biggest desires of my life is to be a wife, but moving to LA where many men aren’t interested in marriage was scary."
[51:45] The conversation addresses the emotional challenges of being single and the struggle to maintain faith amidst rejection.
Ali Yost: "A guy was not interested in me as I was in him. It hurt my confidence and made me doubt if God has someone for me."
Ari: "It comes down to faith. Believing that Jesus has a purpose and a plan for your life is crucial."
[58:35] Both guests share how their relationship with Jesus helps them navigate heartbreak and rejection, finding strength and purpose beyond their circumstances.
Ashley Hetherington: "Through my heartbreak, I saw that what God did through my life was to prepare me for where I am now."
[74:53] The discussion shifts to spiritual practices, emphasizing the importance of a "secret place" — a personal, intimate time with Jesus.
Ashley Hetherington: "I weep and express my gratitude to Him during my secret place, listening to worship music every morning."
Ali Yost: "The more time you spend with God, the more you radiate His love and presence in your daily life."
[75:05] They describe their prayer routines and how these practices foster a deeper connection with Jesus, allowing them to carry this intimacy into every aspect of their lives.
Ashley: "It's intimate and it's... just praising Him. I need to hear His encouragement."
[81:00] As the episode nears its end, the hosts and guests offer heartfelt encouragement to listeners navigating similar paths in faith and personal life.
Ari: "We all go through it... You're not alone."
Ali Yost: "God can surprise us in unexpected ways. Trust His timing."
Ashley Hetherington: "Don't settle out of fear. Trust that God has the perfect plan for you."
[82:02] The episode concludes with blessings and affirmations, reinforcing the supportive community ethos of "Girls Gone Bible."
Ari: "May the Lord bless you and keep you... May He give you peace."
