Welcome to Glamorous Trash. This is a Cookie Jar episode where we basically take everything in the Glamorous Trash universe that does not fit into our memoir specific or article specific episodes and we dump it all into one big old cookie jar and discuss it. So you know me. I'm your host, Chelsea Devontez. I'm a TV writer, comedian, filmmaker, author, and sometimes I'm into stuff too. And I am here with our co host of Every Single Cookie Jar. It is our producer, Christina Lopez. Hi.
D
Hey, Chelsea. Forget about it. I'm back from Brooklyn. I'm here to do the podcast. Let's go.
C
I can't wait. You. You're gonna have to do a new fun intro every time, Christina. I know.
D
I'm really setting the bar each time with these.
C
I. I'm. That one was really good. Christina just got back from Truly Brooklyn. So this is. That was a very on point.
E
Hello.
C
Yeah, we're gonna get to some fun little gems today. Now I'm gonna talk about two things quickly. I will talk about my film at the very, very end. So you can just stay and listen to that if you want to. But my feature film that I wrote and directed and it stars Ashley park and Leighton Meester, has its premiere, we're premiering at south by Southwest. So if you are attending south by Southwest, we have our huge premiere on March 16 and then we have two other screenings. So look up the South By Southwest website.
D
The movie is called Basic. We'll have a link to the schedule at south by Southwest in our show notes. Right, Chelsea?
C
Yeah. I will talk about this more at the end of the episode, but my voice isn't conveying how unbelievably excited I am for this film to come out.
D
I'm so excited for you to be on this journey on the outside a little bit, looking in, like, peeking over the fence like Wilson from Home Improvement.
C
Delivering your sage wisdom, calming D mellen down.
D
Yeah, it's just a real culmination of all the hard work. And there was just so much work that went on even before I joined Glamorous Chassis two years ago.
C
Yeah. And so much work on the podcast just to be able to go and do the movie. And Christina. Yeah, I just couldn't have done this without you. I. I could cry at any moment. So I'll push it towards the end. But the other thing I have to say is another piece of personal good news, which is that the paperback of my memoir is coming out on February 24th, and I didn't know if I would make it to a paperback. Your book only makes it to a paperback printing if it sells enough hard copies of the hardback. And so first, I just want to say thank you to everyone who bought my book and supported me and took a chance on my story, and you're why I now get a paperback printing. So thank you so much. I just feel very emotional about it. And also I definitively feel like an absolutely new person since the book came out, or at least like, I got, like, half a brain transplant or something. So I've sort of been, like, living with this new version of myself for a while. And so to come back and be like, oh, my God, I remember you wrote a memoir. And the paperback's coming out is exciting, and it has bonus material in it. That's the special thing, I gotta say. So if you want the bonus material, that's a reason to get the paperback or check it out at your library. One of the pieces of bonus content is an essay about how and why the book got redacted and what I did during it, which was only something I could have written in hindsight. I needed the rage to clear my eyes. And so I've written about what happened. And then it always makes me laugh in memoirs when they run out of stuff to say and they just start listing things. Remember at the end of Mariah Carey's memoir where she's like, here's some men who didn't fuck me over. And it's just like, a chapter of, like, some men, like, a bunch of names. And I was like, wait, what are we doing here? Or Debbie Harry was like, I guess here's my morning routine.
D
I always think of Vanessa Williams's mom's grudgeline list in her memoir or their shared memoir.
C
Yeah, okay, so the bonus content for my memoir is that essay I wrote and nine lists. So, like, one of the lists are, like, new enemies I've made since the book came out. Names in the book that are real that I outed in the list. Oh, I had some. Where are they nows? Of people in the book who had, like, crazy updates on them.
D
So have you given people additional blind items to parse out from the book?
C
Yes, of course I have. Of course, if you're going to buy a paperback, you get blind items.
D
Oh, yeah. I cannot wait for the cookies to get their hands on this.
C
I'm not even going to say blind items. I literally was like, here's a name that's real. I guess that's how it goes. Okay, so let's talk about another book that was just on this podcast. Spencer Peratti Daddies. He wants me to call him Daddy.
E
I won't.
C
You know, he goes by Crystal Daddy, or. That was his business.
D
Oh, I was going to say the Crystal King Spritzer Press.
C
Yeah, no, he. I think he called his business Crystal Daddy, which was wow.
D
And wasn't his early TV thing. Pratt Daddy Productions. Like, what is the father figure issue that seems to present itself here?
C
I don't know, because by his own account, his dad's great. So here's my PSA to all y' all out there, okay? If you have a good daddy, stop saying, I'm my daddy. No, you have a daddy. You're. You have a good dad. Okay? If you don't have a dad, if you're a little orphan like me, then you get to be like, I'm my own daddy. But Spence over here being like, I'm the daddy, it's like, no, your dad's a better man than you.
D
Yes. And also, you're the dad of actual children.
C
Yeah. Sir, you be the father of your children. Oh, God. Okay, so Connor, Leo wrote a note on the Patreon. They had also read the book, and they had some extra highlights that we didn't include in the episode. Yes, there were some great shout outs. Okay, First, Spencer's dad got a good deal on the house that they grew up in in the Palisades because it had been the scene of a triple murder.
D
Wow.
C
And I. That's how crazy his book was that we forgot to mention that he grew up in a murdering house. The man might have been haunted. Haunted from childhood.
D
Gosh, there's a lot of those in L. A.
C
Do you say a lot of those in L. A? A lot of murder, yes, there's a.
D
Lot of murder houses in la.
C
Real sad. Real sad.
D
Yeah.
C
Okay. His first show, which we did cover, we didn't cover the why it fell off and it' it aired on Fox right after the Simpsons, which was like the hottest time slot. But the network thought they bought a four quadrant show. And a four quadrant means you get to satisfy all demographics, basically. Like, there's no one you're excluding who can watch this show so you can make the most money. And what they delivered was a show where Linda Thompson caught her husband, David Foster, getting a blowjob and came home and asked for a divorce. And all of that was like the fall of their marriage was caught on camera. And so they were like, we thought we were buying like a fun show about this rich family, and instead we're seeing like the. The fall of a marriage, like, no, thanks.
D
Is Linda Thompson a woman we need to check in on 100%.
C
All of David Foster's wives except for Yolanda, who has a book. Maybe she needs to be checked on the most. But yeah, Spencer in the book was like, I really want to thank Linda for all she did for us because she swallowed a lot of her pride in order to continue filming this show for us even though she was losing her marriage. But also he kind of said that maybe Linda Thompson went to the network and was like, I ha how I come across in this show. Please, please end this show and save me.
D
I kind of believe that 100%.
C
I believe that. And in one of his self aware moments, Spencer said, if I had been a good producer, I would have showed Linda Thompson every cut of the show and asked her to weigh in and if she liked it and make sure she liked it. Because instead she was like, can it. Okay. And then the third little highlight from Connor is his great grandmother married into the chicken of the sea tuna fortune.
D
Spencer's great grandmother. Wow.
C
And I vaguely remember this grandparents stuff tends to not stick with me.
D
Yeah.
C
But it does make you be like, I'm even over your little like, oh, my dad was only a dentist shtick. It's like, actually it sounds like huge generational wealth was in your famous.
E
Yeah.
D
I don't know why he tried to distance, maybe to like, make himself more of an everyman.
C
Listen, I know you had a hard time with that episode, and I think maybe you should give some voice to that, because I really tried to make it clear that I felt like the ghostwriter had done a great revisionist history. And it doesn't mean that it's all true. I just meant, like, the ghostwriter did a good job. That's very different than someone being able to be that real person in real life. Christina, what were you going through? I know you were going through it.
D
I just think that I remember him quite often being, like, a bully to women. And it just seems like this is a real opportunity to kind of, like, wash away some of that. The proximity to figures like Alex Jones, the sort of, like, MAGA adjacent placement. You know, he literally has worn a MAGA hat.
C
Oh, yeah.
D
And, you know, like you said in the episode, there are so many other issues plaguing Los Angeles that a true civil servant, which, you know, has changed so much what a civil servant really is these days.
C
And it ain't Daddy Pratt. I don't want him to be the daddy of Los Angeles.
D
Exactly. It encompasses so many other issues and so many other. Like, Angeli knows that you have to care for and not just, you know, the people in your neighborhood, but also the people who make up the entire community of the city of Los Angeles. And I don't know if he has the sort of expansive viewpoint to really care for that level of people. Yeah, I don't know.
C
And also, we do know, and he doesn't. I think I did really enjoy the book. I can't. I can't pretend I didn't, but he is. Sour taste in my mouth at the same time. It was difficult to navigate. I would say I got an equal amount of messages being like, no, nothing about him can be good. Like, this is the man who started, like, beef curtains with his little homie Perez Hilton to, like, take down Lauren Conrad. It's just so much misogyny. I also got an equal amount of messages of people being like, oh, I guess I'm a Spencer defender. I love him. Which was very surprising.
D
Yeah. It was interesting to see the feedback and the nostalgia that that show still has for people. Even though, like, I like you, I wasn't really a big fan of that show and didn't watch it. But, you know, that show has a whole fan base who have, like, a real soft spot for that show. And, you know, the person they were at the time when they were watching it.
C
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So that is why we're going to play a voice note from guest. Beloved, beloved guest of the podcast, Olivia Scott Lane. My actual hairstylist who has been cutting my hair and my bangs for eight years. She's the keeper of my bangs. She is. I call her the working class Olivia Pope. Like, this is who you call to fix your life. Like, you can call Olivia with anything and she could fix your entire situation. I love her so much. And she was a PA on the Hills and has the. In the most, the craziest story about them. So let's play it and you can make up your mind once and for all about how you feel about Mr. Crystals.
F
I was a PA bottom of the fucking barrel release PA. Anyway, I want to say it's 2009 and Heidi performed at the Miss Universe pageant. It was also like Flo Rida and Kelly Rowland and David Guetta, if you just need the time capsule of that era. So they came back from that and that's when they were all into the crystals. They had gone full woo woo. I don't know what transpired down there, but that's when they started with the crystals. It was sort of the end of the Hills series, and then they've continued on with the crystals. Honestly, when the Hills reboot came on, I think they had like a party for his giant salt spheres and whatever else. All that to say is when they came back all woo woo. They did not tell me directly. They told someone else in production. That girl over there pointing to me has a yellow aura. It's not good or bad. And I've heard I have a yellow aura from several clairvoyants from other people that are aura readers, you know, walking around Sedona, whatever else that have a yellow aura. I don't think they were saying it's good or bad, but they were just like, but she can't be anywhere near us. Like, it didn't vibe with their auras. I don't know what color their auras are. Maybe one of the cookies is an aura reader, which I'm sure, knowing you and us and the cookies, that we've got an aura reader in our realm. But yeah, I had a yellow aura. And so anytime we filmed with them, I had to stay out in the PA van and just sit there with Crafty and lick Dorito dust off my fingers and read my book and scroll around my BlackBerry because I'm a yellow aura. So that's my Spencer Pratt story. Love you.
C
Bye. Okay. Yeah. Christina, what color do you think your aura is.
D
Oh, my favorite color is purple. So I think I have a very, like, purple red aura.
C
Yes, I absolutely see purple and red for you. And also I know from one of our cookies who used to work with an aura reader, that JLO has a purple and red aura. So I do think that's you.
D
Oh, man. What's yours?
C
I am vaguely remembering and absolutely could be wrong that I am purple and green.
D
I feel that I was a green. Yeah, yeah.
C
Oh, wow. Yeah, yeah. But it's vague. I need to check back in with her. Okay, so we have another amazing voice note I have to play from another guest of the podcast, Nicole Boyd, who did our Christie Brinkley episode. Now, Nicole sent me this at one in the morning. It was a text message and I said, stop texting me. Send it in a voice memo. I have to play it on the podcast because it'll change everything you know about Britney Spears. So it listen, if you're not driving, if you're not in the shower, pull up your phone, go to Britney's Instagram as you listen to this next part of the episode.
G
Hey, Chelsea, I've just discovered something huge. Obviously, you're the first person I would reach out to about news like this. So we were watching Britney Spears concert videos like you do, and I went to her Instagram to see what might be going on over there. And with Womanizer playing in the background, her latest video looks completely normal, including the little emoji nipples. Totally normal. In the context of Womanizer, it was perfect. We've been looking at this all wrong. I was immediately Transported back to 2008 and there was hope. Again, we've been looking at this wrong. Everyone head to the Instagram and re watch these videos with her own music behind it. And it's normal. This just lives inside of her. This is her art. She's been telling us and we were not listening.
C
What do you think?
D
It's so true. Honestly, I tried to think it up last time and I was like, oh, yeah, it is like the lack of backup dancers make it seem wild and out of place.
C
Also, I fully think she's putting on her albums and dancing to them. Yeah, like, I think she's like, time to dance to stronger. Time to dance it. Like, oh, I love this one. Like, I really do think she loves dancing and loved stuff some of the songs in her life and didn't get to always do the choreography she wanted. And I bet she's playing her hits and taking a spin.
D
I do think, like, she feels most free dancing. Probably. Yeah.
C
Yeah. And I am. I'm still really enjoying her captions. She's trauma journaling, so some of it is very scary, some of it is nonsensical. But that is what it looks like to me, where she's going up and down, she's hitting different flows, and I'm going, you know, it does belong in a journal with a therapist, but instead it's an Instagram caption.
D
And we're all here to take it in.
C
We're all here. We're all here to just witness.
E
Yeah. Okay.
C
We will witness what you need, Brittany. Okay, we're gonna take a quick break right now and we'll be right back. All right. So I run around a lot. I do a lot. I'm kind of a night owl that has to wake up early. So I have the darkest circles under my eyes always. I have started putting castor oil underneath my eyes and sleeping with it every night and then on my eyelids. I have been using Thrive Cosmetics brilliant eye brightener, which is my favorite. Quints.com glamorous okay, welcome back. Let's continue the conversation. Okay, Christina, speaking of performers, Super Bowl Halftime show. Now obviously this has been covered, but it has not been covered by our Puerto Rican podcast producer, Christina Lopez. Yes, Christina, TheCookies specifically asked for your take on this performance. Did you have any hot highlights from the super bowl halftime show with Bad Bunny.
D
Oh, my gosh, there are so many. And it's so interesting because I've seen so many takes both, like, very, very critical, you know, because of the platform that they were using in its proximity to the NFL as an. And, you know, the politics of the people and the performers involved. But overall, I would say that we can hold those critiques and the joy that a lot of people felt in being represented and having their culture represented. And I loved seeing the Piragua stand, seeing Tonita, who is the, like, leader of a social club in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and then she refuses to vacate and stay there amongst, like, the gentrification that's happening there. It's really a home to a lot of Nyoricans to celebrate their culture and. And so it was fun to see her there in the performance. Lady Gaga was there, and people thought it was really random, but Bad Bunny is actually a big fan of Lady Gaga. He talked about her Chromatica album getting him through the pandemic. He also talked about being introduced to her music because he has a cousin that does drag, and he used to do the mixes for the drag performance before Bad Buddy got famous. All the songs that the cousin chose were Lady Gaga songs, and that's kind of how he got introduced to Lady Gaga. He also performed one of my favorite songs called Yo Pere, which is kind of a feminist anthem, and it's about a song. Translation of the song is I Dance Alone, and it's basically about a woman who talks about wanting to dance alone, not for male attention, but for her own enjoyment and how men should respect a woman who wants to dance on her own. How cool.
C
Wait, can I ask you something real quick about Lady Gaga? So I did see some photos of Bad Bunny, like, when he was younger, before he was doing anything, like, wearing Lady Gaga shirts, which is so cool. But when the crowd parted and Lady Gaga was revealed, and I love that color palette so deeply, that blue and red. And when we were all squinting to be like, is that Lady Gaga? Did you not have the feeling this should be Christina Aguilera?
D
There was a part of me that's like, oh, okay, yeah, why not another Latina artist? Or like. Like, Christy Aguilera or.
C
Which is like, Christina looks like that. Like, long blonde, platinum hair, like, she is Latina. And I think people don't remember that. Like, early in the 2000s, again, when it wasn't cool, like, she put out a Spanish album. Not cool, but, like, mainstream, per se. Like, I feel like she wasn't giving that credit not to say that we shouldn't have Lady Gaga, but I was. I was like. My brain was like, this is supposed to be Christina Aguilera. I did love that. Diversity was true in the sense, like, Alex Earl was there. Lady Gaga was there. Now I'm not, like, an Alex Earl fan. I honestly don't know why the fuck she was there.
D
Yeah, there were a lot of Latinos who were not happy about her. Like, the rest of the casita had mostly Latino people, including my mom's favorite, Pedro.
C
Pascal. Pascal, yeah.
D
Yes. And she was three sangria cups deep when she saw him and started doing better in the middle of the living room.
C
Do you think Salma Hayek and Eva Longoria were at home? Like, the fuck? What the.
D
Maybe. Or Jennifer Lopez was like, they're like.
C
Checking their phone, being like, I don't see any missed calls. No. You know, Jayla was like, jayla already performed. Like, you know, she's not going back. No way.
D
Well, Bruno Mars, that's the other interesting about the Lady Gaga thing is Bruno Mars has performed at two Super Bowls. And I was confused why he wasn't there because it's his song. And also, Bruno is part Puerto Rican. I was expecting Bruno to pop up. But also, as someone who has half Italian cousins, this is not unusual to see Puerto Ricans and Italians intermingling and partying together. So it was really cool to see that. And then when Ricky Martin popped up, I kind of lost it a little bit. I started crying because the song that he was singing was very specific about not wanting to see Puerto Rico turn into what happened with Hawaii, where, you know, a lot of the locals have been displaced. It's become really expensive for people to live there. For a while, their language was in danger of being lost. But there's been really some excellent preservation efforts. And so that's all the things that happened when it became a state. And so Bad Bunny has a song about not wanting to see Puerto Rico become like, Hawaii. And the bridge was signed by Ricky Martin. And that led into a song called El Alpagon, which is about the blackout that happened during Maria and the continued blackouts that happen across the island of Puerto Rico. And then there was a little frog. I just want to mention this really quick. They would cut to a little tiny frog. A lot of people were saying that that was the coqui. It was not. It's a frog called El sapo concho, which was believed to be extinct, but then was found again in 1966. And it's kind of like Evidence for perseverance in the face of extinction and how, you know, Puerto Ricans kind of always persevere despite efforts to kind of cut them down throughout history.
C
Yeah.
E
Yeah.
C
Wow, Christina, thank God the cookies called for this. I love hearing the insight and, like, what parts hit you. Beyonce's halftime performances is an all time fave for me, and I feel like this was on that level. One thing that I feel. I don't know if sad is the right word, but it's so wonderful that we're having such incredible political discourse and, like, so many incredible messages were said. And I hope Bad Bunny also gets his flowers for being a great entertainer. That was an incredibly entertaining, beautiful, potent performance. And I just hope, like, all the racist housewives being like, we need a real American. And you're like, puerto Rico's America, you fucking idiot.
D
There wasn't any white people there. Lady Gaga's literally a white person and so is Alice Earle.
C
Yeah. And also, it's just so sad when that conversation detracts from, like, I'm sorry, did you, like, your eyes couldn't see the talent and the tricks and the sparkle and all these amazing things that happen. Like.
D
Yeah. And he literally waved a flag that was once illegal for Puerto Ricans to display in their homes. That light blue Puerto Rican flag that was also the light blue that was used in Lady Gaga's dress. And she was wearing the flower, the croissant was the Florida Maga.
C
You've spoken about that.
D
Yeah, yeah. It's the official flower of Puerto Rico. So it was like all these kind of visual elements coming together in a celebration of the island and, you know, his culture, which is also my culture, and being able to see that on stage. I had to turn to my niece at one point and be like, this is actually really rare. Like, I know you're used to seeing Bad Bunny on all the stages, but, like, this level of representation that we see, very, very rare. And, like, to take this in was kind of a unique moment. And that's why I got so upset. That's why I got this. She was like, why are you crying? It was just a real culmination of a lot of pride and really just a beautiful run on this album. And so looking forward to what he does next. But he should definitely celebrate all that he accomplished with that album on the stage.
C
Oh, yeah.
D
I think it was something that the Latino community really needed. There's been such monstrous things happening to a lot of people in the community, and so if we could get this little reprieve that also made people. I mean, there I saw a montage of people of different countries reacting to Bad Bunny saying their country's name. Because they're like, we never get, like someone from Haiti just saying that. Like, we never really get called out like that. And to be included was like a big moment of unity in a really beautiful way.
C
God bless America. Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia. I love that. And something that crept up on me. We do not have time for it, so get at it. In the Patreon comments is a part I did not realize until someone said this. They were like. Because I'm just like, how did the NFL make this decision? Remember when Jay Z bought into the NFL? Like, this is part of that decision. And I was like, oh. So it's really something to think about. Okay, so now totally changing gears, we have a new segment entering every cookie jar called Smut Corner. Now you may remember our guest Claire Linick, who talked about smutty smutty smut books on the Denise Richards episode. And we jokes that we needed a smut recommendation every month. And guess what? Jokes turn into reality. Claire, take us to Smut Corner.
E
Hello, dear cookies, it is your local genderless pervert, Claire Linick. And I heard I've been summoned to talk about smut for you guys and give recommendations. I truly have never been so honored. The Smut Corner, it feels really right. And it also feels like it's the best time ever to be speaking of this because not only is this my favorite topic in the world, it's a very unique moment in television, film and books right now where they are not showcasing queer voices, people of color, any of these stories. There's a lot of reticence to show these, but Smut is mostly self published, so people are heading over there to write about whatever they want. So if we keep reading and listening and taking in smut, that shows the whole array of the human race. They will build it and we will come. And it is a very exciting time to be alive. For my first recommendation, I thought long and hard and I said, claire, what do these people need? What do these people need right now? They need an escape. They need world building. They need to feel safe while having a little fun with it. So the first book I'm recommending to you is how to Marry a Marble Marquis by, you guessed it, Siemna's Costa. Now she is the world building goat. And if you like this store, you can find others in this world and in other worlds that she has built. All very cozy all very sweet. This one, y', all, is a Bridgerton overlay. This one is definitely giving pollen and I think this is the right time. It's Valentine's Day. It's Bridgerton. Love is in the air. And so are creamy globes, which is what they call breasts in this show. And I think that's going to be a lot of fun for you. I also wanted to ease you in a little bit. If I was giving this a spice rating of stars, what would you give? Spice rating? Peppers. Let's say peppers. I'm open to feedback. I'm giving this three peppers out of five. We're having some fun. It definitely has teacher student tropes without it being virginal, which is nice. That's not what we need right now. So it is going to be pretty graphic, but it's not the whole thing. There's also story and don't we love a story now if you do enjoy this, I definitely recommend checking out other CMS costas. They do get wackier. And just know that that I've started you on a pretty tame one and it's going to get whack a doodle time after that. And if you're looking for a queer story, don't worry, she does have one where there's a non binary shadow that is one of the main romancers and that's something we all need right now. You can find me at Clair Linnick on Instagram. I'm gonna wanna hear your recs and let me know what you're wanting next time. Do you want less spicy? Do you want more spicy? Do you want more creamy globes? That's what I need to know. Thank you for this honor. Thank you for this time.
C
Christina, what do you think? Are you gonna. Are you a smut girl?
D
I'm not a smut girl, but DLO is. So I might be recommending this to D. Lo.
C
Yes, maybe Claire recommends the smut and d' Lo reviews it. D' Lo comes back next month, lets us know how the book went for you. Okay, so we should also shout out that cookies are sharing amazing resources in our Patreon chats. And you know, we have cookies who live in Minneapolis or live in Minnesota. And when things are happening in real time, being able to gather in our tiny community and share resources, know resources, help other people out, even if it's just with a kind message. All of that's happening in our Patreon chats. So get on in there if you need help or you have the bandwidth to offer something yeah, people have been.
D
Really leaving some sweet messages to people who just need a pick me up. And also providing some real helpful resources to the people of Minnesota.
C
Yeah, absolutely. Okay, so I guess we're at the end of our little cookie jar and this is where I'll talk about my film. I'm so fucking happy. You know, we're recording. It is 8pm at night and Christina, I have been like a ghost passing in the night these few weeks. Like running in to be like, I just read the book and recording and leaving because I've been in post to finish my film all day. Today was a color session on Monday. Me and Ashley and Leighton went and we took a beat and a hook that Marcus, our podcast sound engineer. What's up, Marcus? And we went and recorded an end credits song and wrote lyrics. It was incredible. But it was this day where like I, at 6am I was starting movie stuff and then we recorded sound all day and then at 6pm went and did the song. So it was just this. It's just a crazy moment in life, but one I'm very grateful and happy for. But my book reading is pretty weird right now. So again, if you're at south by Southwest in March, come see the film after we have our premiere. I will be able to share when it'll make its way beyond that. So it stars Ashley park and Leighton Meester. It also has cameos and co stars like all of my, truly some of my best friends. So my actual best friends, guests of this podcast, artists in their own right. Ashton, Nicole, Black, Kinsey, Elizabeth. They play Leighton Meester's best friends in the movie. And the third best friend is Candy Muse, who in my heart is my best friend. Yeah, and is now. And then other friends of mine came in and just did such funny roles like Amber Ruffin and John Gabris, Georgia Mishak, Nelson, Franklin.
D
Joe Feldman has a wonderful cameo.
C
Joe Feldman.
D
Feldman.
C
Oh my God, she's so good in this movie. And also to get a movie up, that is a. I mean, if you've heard me talk on this podcast about movies, you know what I'm constantly screaming about? I have managed to make a movie that is the things I scream about. And so it is also, I'm just. God, I'm. I'm so excited. I could cry for people to see it. But you know, it stars two women and it is about like, I guess, quote unquote women shit, you know, And I say it has the shape of a rom com, but it's actually about female friendship and it was inspired by. Because like, seven years ago, one day I checked my phone and I saw that a girl who had gone on a few dates with my boyfriend at the time had deep liked a tweet in my feed that was a year old. And I was like, oh, my God. And if you're listening carefully, you're like, but Chelsea, how'd you know that was her? Well, because I'd already sucked her, of course. God, of course. You guys, come on. And in that moment, I was like, this is so wild. Like, she and I have overtaken the plot of this story. Like, we are here scarring ourselves on the Internet to drag wounds back to our real life. It's not even about the guy anymore. And we are both purveyors of each other's lives. We don't even know each other. And it was also really colliding with my feminism. I was so upset that I was so upset because it's like, all I want is, like, root for women. I want women to succeed. And here I was being like this. So I was like, oh, God. And so I kind of split these two sides of myself and put one in each character and then made them deal with it and got this movie. And also, it's a comedy. It's a full on comedy.
D
Yes, it very much is a comedy. There are a lot of laugh out loud moments.
C
Christina saw a very early version of it. A very rough draft. Christina, I can't wait for you to see it now. It's changed so much since then.
D
Yeah, I can't wait. I'm so excited. Like, I don't even know how it could even get better, but I'm excited to. To see how it looks and to hear that song that Marcus is helping. I got a little early. Like, listen. He was. Yeah, I learned a lot about Marcus. He, like, used to work with Little Kim and did good K Pop productions. Just to give you guys a little taste of what might be in the mix there.
C
Well, Marcus is such a badass. And Marcus made our podcast music. I've had people reach out and ask for the single, and I'm like, oh, it's not a single. Like, Marcus just made it for us. And so again, I just. They say making an indie film is going to war. It's pretty accurate. You're kind of going to war every day, but for a piece of art. And deep in battle, Marcus was like, if you ever need anything, you call me. And I got to the end of our music budget and I said, ring, ring. We need end Credits real bad. Yeah, it's interesting. What I feel most right now is one, when I was in the middle of recording with Ashley park, she was like, wait, when did we wrap? Like, how long has it been? Has it been six months? And we realized it has been less than four months since I wrapped this film.
D
And I want people to know that you've been working on it almost every day since you came back to the podcast. So she's been working on this in tandem with the podcast because it was an anticipation for cutting it for festivals and stuff like that and getting it ready for South By. So, like, Chelsea has been pulling triple duty while trying to read all these books for the podcast. So a round of applause for you, Chelsea.
C
Thanks for seeing me, Christina.
D
Okay.
C
That's very nice. Yeah, I. Well, I think what really hit me is that if you're in film, you know, what I just said is insane and should be impossible. So, like, it is just the craziest turnaround of all time. But also, it took me six years to get it made. So, you know me, I'm impatient as. So I. I love a sprint. So when we were asked to sprint, I was like, I should be so blessed. So, anyways. But yes, I wrapped it, came back. I have not left it. So I'm definitely feeling that deeply. And I'm at the precipice where. And this is even scary to say out loud because, like, I don't want to have to listen back to it one day and be like, you stupid bitch. Why'd you say that out loud? But I'm gonna say it right now. And, Christina, you can cut it later if it's stupid, but it's this weird precipice where you're about to find out if what you think happened, happened. So, like, what I think I've been riding, what I think I've been making, what I. You know, all the feedback I've gotten, all the times I've tested it, but it still has to go out to the world. And it feels like reaching the tippy top of the roller coaster you wanted to ride your entire life. And, like, now you're about to find out how the ride goes, which is weird.
D
Yeah. Is it a good feeling or is it a bad feeling? Is it an anxious feeling? What is it?
C
It's. I gotta say, at least right now, and I know the feeling will change. Right now it's such a good feeling because I've been just fucking dying to do this for so long that to have gotten the chance to write and direct my own film. I just really feel like, holy shit. Like, I did. I got the chance, you know, And I know the footage exists, and I know it's here. And for all the ways I. Obviously, you're like, if I had five more dollars that day, the things I could have done. But, I mean, when I.
D
Are we getting a director's cut DVD in 10 years? Yeah. Right.
C
No, no. I personally love the cut. Like, I have not had the cut changed. Our music composer's actual mixes of the songs she had written came in. We placed it in the movie. I've cried five times this week listening to this song go along with a certain cut. And again, it's a comedy. So I am in this place of, like, oh, my God. But I also know that it's crazy business, and I've got to see how other people like it. But I. Yeah, right now I just feel, like, really excited, really tired, and really, I would say, like, really disconnected. Like, I feel disconnected from you. I feel disconnected from my family. Like, I feel very, like, ran out of. I ran out of, like, moments in a day, you know?
D
Yeah, absolutely. I totally get that. But, you know, it's so rare that people get to see their dreams come true and, like, you know, even have a dream to, like, reach for. Like, I asked my mom once, like, what she wanted to be growing up, but she didn't have an answer because nobody encouraged her to dream, to be anything growing up.
E
Oh, my God.
D
And so, like. Like, it's so rare that people even get to that point of having a dream to, like, achieve, and then you did it. Like, little Chelsea somewhere inside is like, I did it. Yeah.
C
Yeah. It's like, regardless of how it goes, I did do it, and no one.
D
Can take it away.
C
And this is so weird, but, like, I sort of feel like I'm standing with all the cookies being like, we fucking did it. Because when the short film went up on Amazon prime, because south by went down, my short film was first, and south by went down for quarantine. And so my short film went online because there was no festival that year. That's when the majority of OG Cookies found me. I had, like, I don't know, a thousand followers, and people saw this film and came and followed me. And Because I had, like, a few people following me, when I started to read books, literally that exact same year in the Pandemic, there were some people there to be like, hey, you should do a podcast. And I was like, what?
D
What's a podcast?
C
Oh, it's A blog? No, it was 2020.
E
But I did.
C
I started doing Instagram Lives, and, like. Like, some of the cookies who followed me were my first guests because they also loved the books and, like, we would do an Instagram live to, like, 17 people or whatever it was. And I definitely know that, like, doing this podcast and, like, honing my point of view and, like, all of the cookies who came out to volunteer to be in the film because I needed extras and, like, came on set with me, and there was a handful of cookies who, like, found out I was in Alabama and, like, came and actually physically helped me on set. And the film is all about the things that the. It's the theme of the podcast. Right. So a part of me is sort.
D
Of like, we did it.
C
And I feel like everyone's like, what? And I'm like, thank you.
E
Yeah.
C
I feel like I've gotten really corny and self involved. I really just meant to say thank you so much. Please go see my film at south by and, like, look out for it coming out. And just like, thank you for being here and listening at all, because if you did, like, you helped me do this. So I'm just very grateful.
D
I love that, Chelsea.
C
I just love you, Christina and Christina. Oh, my God, you guys give Christina compliments. She just holds this podcast down. When I'm like, can I do the.
E
Podcast on my drive home? I just.
D
We'll make it work, Chelsea.
E
I'll figure it out.
D
We always try to make it work.
C
We do. We always do. And we have some hot, hot books coming out. Our costume designer, my drag mother, is coming on to do Gina Gershon's book. She is Crystal Connors and Showgirls, if you don't know. We have Lisa Rinna's book. We have Dorinda's book. Also, we're gonna talk about the traitors a little bit. We're talking about Tyra Banks. Ooh, Tyra Banks documentary. Which, like, feels like a response to the America's Next Top Model memoir that we read on this podcast. There's a lot of good stuff coming out, and then after that, there's like, a whole slew of hits, like Liza Minnelli, Brandi, Christina Applegate. This is such a hot memoir. Spring Summer. Well, come find me and Christina in the Patreon comments or the Instagram. And thank y' all so much for listening, and we'll see you soon.
D
