This week's conversation with Aaron centres around how his newly blended family is handling the gluten free diet. Aaron's is a large and busy household with with lots of different interests and activities. Aaron uses the analogy of having to juggle balls, some are rubber and will bounce if they drop, others are glass and can't afford to be dropped. He explains how the gluten free diet fits into this perspective. We offer lots of suggestions for keeping his food and the family kitchen safe. This week I'm speaking with Aaron who recently got married and is now in the process of blending his and his wife's families under one roof. Clearly, in this situation there's a lot going on, but in Aaron's case, his new "bonus" kids have to deal with his gluten free requirements including keeping the kitchen safe. It's a family dynamic that is difficult to plan for, but must be addressed on a continuing basis. Plus as we can expect, there's a couple of plot twists that happen. This week I'm speaking with Tamie to ask about counting macros - specifically protein and fibre. Tamie is being directed by her Nutritionist to get in lots of protein - much more than I could ever eat, along with a suggested amount of fibre that most of us work towards everyday. As well as maintaining a gluten free diet, counting macros can be challenging, but Tamie has some great tips for getting in lots of protein. You'll never guess what his medical team told him to eat, in what most of us would find a reversal of his journey.
